  2. The BoardWalk Bakery on Disney World’s BoardWalk has debuted a new cupcake in honor of Pride month! Rainbow Cupcake The Rainbow Cupcake positively pops with color from the pretty chocolate hearts accented with glitter to the sprinkles surrounding the base of the buttercream frosting to the chocolate discs forming Mickey ears on the top. Rainbow Cupcake The sweet vanilla buttercream and accent pieces top a vanilla cake base. Rainbow Cupcake But the base is unique in that it features a “strawberry soak” with a tropical fruit curd and chocolate pearl center inside. Rainbow Cupcake And that all equals up to a lot going on! The tropical curd filling is uniquely refreshing — so much so that we don’t think the filling particularly needs that extra touch of chocolate candy pearls. That strawberry soak really does lend a very pure strawberry taste and tang to the otherwise plain vanilla cake. Now, here’s the thing: the flavor was great, and we didn’t mind the “soak,” even though it caused our cake to topple due to some heft from the liquid. Rainbow Cupcake That said, we know that some might find the “wet cake” texture (or even the idea) off-putting, so if that includes you, we wanted you to know! The Rainbow Cupcake at BoardWalk Bakery is $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Would you like to try the Rainbow Cupcake? Please let us know with a comment! 3. If you’ve been on a Disney cruise, chances are your mouth started watering when you read the words “Palo Chocolate Soufflé.” This guest-favorite dessert has earned its reputation as a “must-have” when dining at Palo, the signature adult-exclusive restaurant aboard all four Disney ships. Lucky for you, this sweet treat is made with ingredients that are likely in your kitchen right now. So whether you want to relive date night on your Disney Cruise Line vacation or simply indulge in a decadent dessert tonight, check out this video for a step-by-step guide on how to make Palo’s famous Chocolate Soufflé. The full recipe, including how to make our delicious vanilla sauce, is listed below. Next time you sail with us, treat yourself to dinner at Palo for an unforgettable dining experience. And when the server asks if you’d like to try the chocolate soufflé, be sure your answer is a resounding “yes!” Palo Chocolate Soufflé (Serves 6) Ingredients 3 tablespoons butter, plus more for greasing the soufflé cups 6 tablespoons sugar, plus more for dusting the soufflé cups 1 cup milk 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 3 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa 2 ounces (2/3 cup) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, melted 4 eggs, separated Vanilla Sauce (recipe follows) Directions Preheat oven to 350°F. Set a full kettle of water on to boil. Butter six 4-ounce soufflé cups and coat with sugar; set aside. Bring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and cocoa to the butter and beat with a whisk to a smooth, paste-like consistency. Reduce heat and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add the hot milk, whisking until smooth, then blend in melted chocolate. Let cool for 5 minutes, then stir in egg yolks. Beat egg whites in a separate bowl until frothy. Slowly add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until stiff, glossy peaks form. Stir a heaping spoonful of egg whites into the chocolate, then fold in the remaining whites just until combined. Pour the batter into prepared soufflé cups. Place cups in a large baking dish and add enough boiling water to reach halfway the sides of the soufflé cups. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve immediately, with warm vanilla sauce. Vanilla Sauce Ingredients 1 1/4 cups heavy cream 1/4 vanilla bean, split lengthwise 3 tablespoons sugar 2 small egg yolks Directions Bring cream and vanilla bean to a low boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Combine sugar and egg yolks. Add 2 spoonfuls of boiling cream to egg mixture and stir well, then pour back into the remaining cream and continue to cook over low heat, stirring constantly for 3 to 4 minutes. 4. Okay, you guys. I NEED to tell you about a new treat in Disneyland… it’s the Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake. Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake Because this thing is AWESOME. This indulgence is a coffee lover’s dream! A warm, crunchy funnel cake is topped with lots of chocolate syrup, whipped cream and espresso chip ice cream to create this super sweet treat. The chocolate syrup mixes very well with the coffee taste… so it’s like a mocha with Funnel Cake! Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake The taste of the coffee is VERY prominent throughout the funnel cake, so be aware in case you don’t love a strong coffee flavor. Kids may not dig it as much as adults. (Which means more for the parents out there!) Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake You can grab one of these funnel cakes for yourself at Hungry Bear Restaurant for $7.99 before the Annual Passholder discount. When we were there, they did not have a placard or advertisement for it, so don’t forget to ask for it! The Cast Member we spoke to said it came out a week or so ago. Hungry Bear Restaurant This decadent snack item is definitely shareable and can be a bit messy, so grab plenty of napkins! When we cut into the funnel cake, a plume of steam escaped due to the heat of the cake mixed with the cold ice cream. Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake Overall, we loved the Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake. It had a crunchy and soft texture with strong flavors throughout. 19. ABC Commissary is a counter service location in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Learn About: ABC Commissary Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney World Restaurants And a new style of fast-casual dinner service has just made its debut at this location. Though not required at the moment (and we’ll talk about this in greater detail later), guests can now make Advance Dining Reservations to book their dinner at ABC Commissary. However, the spot has retained its Quick Service status (much like breakfast and lunch at Be our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom, which also accepts reservations for these Quick Service meals). So we thought we’d stop by to check out the “new” meal and explore the ins-and-outs of ABC Commissary’s fast-casual dinner. ABC Commissary Atmosphere ABC Commissary just reopened from a recent refurbishment, and the reopening delivered refreshed tables, chairs, and carpeting in the location. ABC Commissary However, for the purposes of today’s visit, we’ll discuss atmosphere in regards to how the new style of dinner service affects the general flow of the meal. Guests arriving for dinner will check in at the stand as seen above, then proceed to the counter to order much like you would at any counter service location. ABC Commissary After placing your order, you receive a Place Tracker so your meal can “find” you wherever you seat yourself in the restaurant and be delivered once it’s ready. Place Tracker Again, it’s very much like breakfast or lunch at Be Our Guest Restaurant, or other fast-casual locations like D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs. We did experience a few kinks as the Cast adjusts to the new service style. For instance, we were supposed to be handed cups for the newly open refillable drink stations (Hooray for refills, by the way!), but those were forgotten so we had to ask about them. But small instances like that will likely work themselves out quickly in these opening weeks. Drink Station Speaking of those beverage stations, lids were not available for drink cups. But we were informed that they are — as of press time — still available by request. Paper straws were available at the drink stations. Refillable Drink Station Other changes include the availability of reusable utensils. Utensils Note that there are stations in place for bussing your own table if you wish, but mainly since it is standard to do so during the regular lunch service. But Cast Members also collect plates and such in the dining area during dinner. Bus Station Again, dinner at ABC Commissary now accepts Advance Dining Reservations, but we had no trouble getting in as a walk-in… not now, anyway. In these beginning weeks, in fact, they have only opened a limited number of reservations while getting used to the new system. However, once the crowds in Hollywood Studios greatly increase after the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on August 29th, an Advance Dining Reservation may well be needed. Eats The menu for dinner has remained fairly steady since our last visit to ABC Commissary. Dinner Menu The only change in regards to entrees is that a new Pot Roast has replaced the Braised Beef and Enchilada Platter. Dinner Menu with Prices And a new Watermelon Margarita has joined the specialty beverages. Dinner Drink Menu The new slow-cooked Pot Roast is served atop root-vegetable mashed potatoes with brown gravy and crispy onion straws. It’s plated on a ceramic dish as opposed to paper, which is a nice touch. Pot Roast And it is, in a word, delicious. The juicy, tender beef is further enhanced by the flavorful gravy. Pot Roast The crispy onion straws add a good bit of tasty crunch. And the mashed potatoes are complete with carrots and parsnips (the root veggies) to lend some uniqueness to the serving. Mashed Potatoes It’s certainly a good dish and above par for what you’d expect from a typical quick service meal. But… well, let’s explore our final thoughts in our next section. Overall Taking the Pot Roast as an example of the ABC Commissary dinner options, it is nearly $17 so it is a little more expensive than most quick service entrees around Disney World. This does work out well in favor of guests utilizing the Disney Dining Plan, as the meal maximizes use of a Quick Service Credit. And so, for guests on the Plan, this new meal gets a thumbs up! However, guests paying out of pocket may want to stick with counter service options in the park such as Woody’s Lunch Box and Backlot Express which are less expensive and offer more fun theming, to boot. We definitely do, though, want to give some additional credit to ABC Commissary overall. 21. A new assortment of unique ice cream flavors has arrived at The Basket — the counter service component of Wine Bar George in Disney Springs. The Basket at Wine Bar George Choices include Chocolate Bourbon, Coconut Avocado, Blueberry Cheesecake, Sorghum Black Pepper, and Coconut Chocolate Almond, among others. Ice Cream at The Basket We went with three of the “among others” : Honey with Chocolate Crunchies, Olive Oil and Lemon, and Strawberry Shortcake! Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream The Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream comes topped with crumbled biscuits, and lends this dish the taste of a traditional strawberry shortcake, only frozen! Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream You can see the huge chunks of strawberry inside, and the biscuits add a nice hint of salt. They totally nailed this ice cream take on the classic dessert. Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream The Olive Oil and Lemon Ice Cream is nice and refreshing, but didn’t carry the same “wow” factor for us. Olive Oil and Lemon The drizzled layer of olive oil is a unique addition, but not one with broad appeal necessarily. While the lemon flavor is nice and pronounced, the oil may be a bit off-putting for some. Olive Oil and Lemon The house favorite among the staff we spoke with is the Honey with Chocolate Crunchies, and after the Strawberry Shortcake, this comes in as a close second for us. Honey with Chocolate Crunchies It was the last we tried, so the Florida melting game was full on, but it didn’t change the fact that you can really pick up on the rich honey flavor in the cream, and the chocolate crunchies — which are honeycomb covered in dark chocolate — are the perfect addition in both taste and texture. (Seriously, YUM!) Honey with Chocolate Crunchies The small scoops of memorable artisanal flavors at The Basket are $3.00 each, and perfect if you’re looking for just a few bites of something sweet in Disney Springs… perhaps after your meal at Wine Bar George right upstairs! Which flavor would you choose at The Basket? Please let us know with a comment! Related posts: Check out The Basket at Wine Bar George in Disney Springs! What’s NEW At Disney Springs? A WHOLE LOT! 22. What makes up the new Five-0 Special at Vivoli il Gelato in Disney Springs? The Five-0 Special Oh, you know… just some coffee gelato blended with milk inside a chocolate-dipped waffle cone topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, and A DONUT!! ©Disney Springs Maybe the better question is: what’s not in The Five-0 shake?! Oh, and we should note… if coffee gelato isn’t your top choice, you can just ask to switch it out for your flavor preference (even though we do think the coffee would pair wonderfully with the donut). The shake is $15, but remember, the Milkshake Creations at Vivoli il Gelato are HUGE and big enough to share. More June specials at Vivoli il Gelato include the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae. June Specials at Vivoli il Gelato And The Toy Chest must be a celebration of the upcoming Toy Story 4! The Toy Chest Which would you choose ? Would you like to try the Five-0 Special? 23. From the Bo Peep Cupcake to Forky’s Hazelnut Éclair, we’ve got a Toy Story treat takeover going on! Hamm’s Sweet ‘n Tart Cookie And we’ve got yet another for you… Hamm’s Sweet ‘n Tart Cookie can now be found at The Trolley Car Café in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Hamm’s Sweet ‘n Tart Cookie Hamm is formed of two sugar cookies coated in a white chocolate glaze. Hamm’s nose is made of white modeling chocolate and his eyes are chocolate candies to make a whole Hamm pile of CUTENESS! Hamm’s Sweet ‘n Tart Cookie Tucked in between the cookies are two fillings: a dark chocolate filling for more of that “sweet” in the name, and a sour cherry filling for the “tart.” Hamm’s Sweet ‘n Tart Cookie And the cherry filling does indeed provide a sour punch to the pucker, but in a good way! It’s such a unique choice of flavor that really works within this treat, and makes this the perfect tribute to a beloved character who isn’t regularly seen within the parks. Toy Story 4 sign We’re happy to have you, Hamm!! And we can’t wait to see you soon in Toy Story 4! Would you like to try the Hamm Cookie? Please let us know with a comment! 24. Another snack tribute to Forky — the newest member of the Toy Story gang who will make his debut in Toy Story 4 soon — has arrived in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Forky’s Hazelnut Eclair Joining the Forky Cupcake (currently found at Disney’s All Star Movies Resort) is the new Forky’s Hazelnut Éclair at Backlot Express. Forky’s Hazelnut Éclair on sign A white chocolate piece sports Forky declaring “I’m Homemade!” Forky’s Hazelnut Eclair And while the sign for this treat simply mentions a hazelnut éclair, there is an additional flavor with the thick layer of orange citrus icing garnished with chopped hazelnuts underneath the topper. Forky’s Hazelnut Eclair More hazelnut lies in the layer of chocolate hazelnut spread underneath the icing, and together the flavors are reminiscent of an orange creamsicle! (By the way, is it wrong to split a Forky treat with a fork? The mind does ponder…) Forky’s Hazelnut Eclair It’s a tasty treat, but not one for those who don’t care for the fruit-and-chocolate combo, obviously, so just note the addition of orange and place (or change) your order according to your preference. Forky’s Hazelnut Eclair is just one of several ways to celebrate Toy Story 4 in Hollywood Studios right now. Toy Story 4 Preview From Bo Peep’s arrival in the park to previews of the film at Walt Disney Presents, there is no shortage of all the Toy Story fun happening in Hollywood Studios! In fact, this isn’t the end of Toy Story treats today… so stay tuned! Would you like to try Forky’s Hazelnut Eclair? Please let us know with a comment!
