We recently shared news about the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program’s milestone of inspiring more than 2-million hours of volunteer service across America. Today, we’re excited to continue efforts celebrating family service with more details on the impact of this effort and the search to recognize the country’s most dedicated volunteer families. Disney is proud to support Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, in launching a nationwide search for the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year! From now until June 20, 2019, schools and nonprofits registered for the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program can nominate a family exemplifying the incredible power of volunteering together. The selected family will be recognized and participate in a unique family service project at Walt Disney World Resort this November for Family Volunteer Day. “We believe that when families play, explore, learn, and work together, the scene is set for magical memories that last a lifetime,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “Family volunteering deepens bonds, and strengthens communities—and with a little pixie dust in the form of a visit to our parks, this program has made a significant difference.” Since launching last year, the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program has mobilized nearly 500,000 volunteers representing more than 84,000 families, generating more than 2.2 million hours of volunteer service. More than 10,000 projects have been completed, representing all 50 states. Here’s a look at how these achievements are adding up. “Engaging families in service is a pathway to a life-long commitment of civic engagement,” said Natalye Paquin, president and CEO, Points of Light. “We’re excited to continue to celebrate and honor families and organizations who share a commitment of getting involved in giving back.” Great memories are made when families spend quality time together, and volunteering is a perfect way to share time while helping others. We’re so proud of the impact being made across America by families of every shape and size. For more information on the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program or the search for the 2019 Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year, or to get a school or nonprofit you know involved, please visit http://pointsoflight.org/disneyrewards/. *** NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. This contest is owned and operated by Points of Light. Enter contest between 5/15/19 at 9:00 a.m. EDT and 6/20/19 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Open to legal residents of the 50 U.S., D.C., and Puerto Rico. Limit 1 nomination per nonprofit organization/school. There is 1 prize available to be won by a nominated family (ARV: $10,000), and 5 grants to be won by nominating non-profits/schools totaling $30,000. WINNING FAMILY MUST TRAVEL TO WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT® IN FLORIDA ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 23, 2019. You’ll have to go on a hunt for buried treasure at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park to find this special treat… Chocolate Treasure Chest Okay, it’s actually not that hard to find the Chocolate Treasure Chest… simply head to Leaning Palms to find it! Leaning Palms Primarily you’ll find sandwiches, pizza, and even an assortment of Rice Bowls to offer substantial fare at Leaning Palms. But if you’re simply in search of a sweet treat… well, that’s what we’re here to dig up for you! The Chocolate Treasure Chest is made of dark chocolate. Chocolate Treasure Chest sign Now, the Treasure Chest — according to the sign — is supposed to have a white chocolate “mouse” hiding inside, and you can see what very well might be candy eyes and nose if you look closely at the sign (assuming that wasn’t simply a typo). Ours didn’t quite turn out the same way… Chocolate Treasure Chest But it IS filled with a tasty white chocolate MOUSSE topped with cookie crumbles, candies, and sprinkles. The mousse itself is closer to a pudding in consistency than a light and airy mousse, giving the dessert a nice richness and making what is a fairly small treat a filling find. Chocolate Treasure Chest And, we must say, the dark chocolate treasure chest held up surprisingly well in spite of the heat! So overall, this treasure chest is well worth the search! We recently shared that Lamplight Lounge on Disney California Adventure Park’s Pixar Pier began taking reservations for an all-new brunch service. And this weekend saw the first brunch service in this eclectic spot! Let’s see how this fabulous restaurant is charming guests for brunch! Lamplight Lounge Lamplight Lounge’s Brunch Menu is created in the same artistic style as the table service restaurant’s lunch and dinner menus. In fact, the kids’ portion of the menu is called Budding Artists, a play on the animation theme. You can see on the menu below which items we chose to enjoy! Brunch Menu at Lamplight Lounge Click here to read about our experience when Lamplight Lounge opened last summer. Lamplight Lounge is a self-proclaimed California gastro-pub, so we expected satisfying pub food with a fresh twist for brunch. We were not disappointed. In fact, from the first colorful drink to the last tasty bite, the restaurant delivered. It IS interesting to note, however, that many of the ingredients you’ll find on the lunch and dinner menus were also incorporated into brunch. So there’s an efficiency piece happening here when it comes to the restaurant options that means that if you don’t like what’s available for lunch or dinner, you probably won’t love brunch either. First up: the Mimosa Flight. This quartet is four little glasses of fruity happiness! Mimosa Flight The flavors are (from left) Grapefruit and St. Germain, Orange Juice and Ginger, Watermelon, and Peach/Mango Puree and Creme de Peach. Each was delicious, but I really gravitated toward the Peach/Mango. Orange-Ginger and Watermelon were my least favorite; the ginger was just a little too prominent for me, and I’m not a huge watermelon fan. But overall, these are a really fun way to start brunch! Mimosa Flight Also fun: the Cinnamon Toast Cocktail. Cereal milk is totally a thing, and this is like cereal milk taken to the next level! Cinnamon Toast Cocktail The components include Stoli Vanilla Vodka, Frangelico, Rumchata, and Cinnamon Cereal-Infused Milk — but there’s also a bunch of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal mixed in there, too. It was super fun to drink, like sipping milk from the bottom of a cereal bowl, but with a buzz. Cinnamon Toast Cocktail I tried several dishes on the brunch menu, including three savory entrees. First up is a trendy food done gastro-pub style: New York Avocado Toast. Crisp, grilled Sourdough Bread forms the foundation for Avocado Mash, New York Steak, a Sunny-Side-Up Egg, Arugula Salad, Piquillo Butter Sauce, and Pickled Onions. New York Avocado Toast Confit Potatoes serve as a rich, flavorful side. New York Avocado Toast The Avocado Toast itself is a balance of distinctive, thoughtful ingredients. From the umami of the steak to the freshness of the arugula to the bite of the pickled onions and the richness of the egg, everything was in balance. As for the Avocado Mash? Kind of an afterthought, if you can believe it! The other, stronger flavors definitely edged it out. New York Avocado Toast The Brunch Burger is another multi-component dish that had me wondering if it might be too much of a good thing. But I’m happy to say this one, too, was thoughtfully designed. Brunch Burger The grilled burger is Lamplight’s custom blend, and it’s topped with American Cheese, one Egg-Up, Roasted Green Chile, Lettuce, and Paprika Aïoli. A Toasted Amish Bun wrangles the burger. Brunch Burger The burger was… fine. It was meaty and flavorful but not mind-blowing. The bright yellow American Cheese was great, as was the smoky Paprika Aioli. I also appreciated the roasted green chile, which added a very slight heat. Notice there’s also a golden-fried potato pancake under the chiles. That is not in the burger’s description, but it was easily my favorite part of the dish! Lamplight does potatoes VERY well, and this was no exception!! Super flavorful and delicious. Brunch Burger So this is a stack-of-napkins kind of burger, between the aioli and the runny egg yolk. Keep that in mind if you’re trying to keep your look on fleek (that means egg yolk-free, right?). Brunch Burger But here’s the absolute sleeper hit of the meal: the vegan Potato Flautas. These were sensational — literally a sensation. They consist of Plant-based Chorizo, Vegan Piquillo Crema, Serrano-Tomatillo Salsa, Arugula Salad, and Escabèche — but they are totally greater than the sum of their parts! Potato Flautas Between the Plant-Based Chorizo crumbles, the Piquillo Crema, the Escabeche, and the Serrano-Tomatillo Salsa, the Potato Flautas were super-spicy and delicious. That heat was a huge win for me — energizing and exciting to eat. And vegan! We love to see a vegan dish that’s creative and — even more importantly — really good. Potato Flautas I tried the only truly sweet brunch entree, too: Indulgent French Toast. And you’re definitely going to want to unleash your sweet tooth for this one — or share it with someone who loves sweet, too. You KNOW if you follow us that I love sweet — the more icing on a cupcake the better — but this one…there’s no way I could finish this alone. It was HUGE, and very monotonous in flavor. Sheer sugar power here, and not something I could do again unless I had something savory to break it up. Indulgent French Toast The French toast itself is Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Challah Bread — a bread of enriched dough that is already pretty indulgent. Irish Cream Whip, Maple Syrup, House-Made Almond Brittle, and Macerated Berries complete the dish. Indulgent French Toast The Almond Brittle is a key component here, adding the only real texture to the dish. I loved that — and maybe could’ve stood to have a second texture to contrast with the softer elements. Indulgent French Toast But it probably comes as no surprise that Irish Cream Whip is delicious! AND it’s SALTED! I loved the light sprinkling of coarse salt on top of this whip. It was honestly my favorite part of the dish. Indulgent French Toast But wait! I’m bringing you a bonus sweet addition to the meal! Because we were dining toward the end of the brunch service, I was able to order Donuts from the lunch/dinner menu! You’ve seen these before on DFB, but they’re still great. The presentation is great; the pillowy-soft donuts are in a box with red tissue paper. It’s like a gift box that’s also super convenient if you need to carry these out with you. But I recommend eating them straight away because the consistency is light-as-air. And with the berry and chocolate sauces, it’s so indulgent! These are definitely worth asking for if you are brunching at Lamplight Lounge. Donuts with Sauces I think we can all agree that gift boxes should always come with sugary, pillowy donuts. And that Lamplight Lounge slayed the brunch game! All of the dishes were flavorful and thoughtful, with playful elements of color and taste that set this restaurant apart. If you can fit a California Adventure brunch into your Park schedule, I recommend trying Lamplight Lounge. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 8:15AM — 12PM (lunch will start at 12:30PM). Note that Monday through Friday, there is no brunch service, and lunch begins at 11:30AM. Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! The Hei Hei Cone arrived on the scene in February, and was an instant hit at Magic Kingdom’s Aloha Isle. Hei Hei Cone Though Moana’s rooster pal disappeared briefly from Aloha Isle in April, Hei Hei’s return was swift… at that time. But today brings another update to the status of the Hei Hei Cone, which has been removed from the menu at Aloha Isle once again. Current Aloha Isle Menu Not only is the cone itself missing, but the Raspberry Dole Whip (which was one of the flavors used to create the cone, along with the traditional Pineapple) is also gone from Aloha Isle. And the Cast Member who confirmed for us that the Raspberry Dole Whip was gone also said that Hei Hei would not be returning (to her knowledge). Disney did state early on that the Hei Hei Cone was a limited-time treat, so we’re guessing it’s time to say “Goodbye” to Hei Hei at last. But we’ll keep you posted as we continue to keep an eye on all the eats in Magic Kingdom in case Hei Hei finds his way back to roost! Would you like to see the Hei Hei Cone return? Key Lime seems to be a hot topic around Disney World lately, which is great news for us! From classic Key Lime Pie to a new Key Lime Cheesecake, takes on this tangy treat are popping up everywhere. Lottawatta Lodge In fact, Key Lime has also made its way to Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. You can now get a CHOCOLATE-DIPPED Key Lime Pie at Lottawatta Lodge in Blizzard Beach. Chocolate-dipped Key Lime Pie This treat has a hard chocolate coated exterior and a yummy key lime interior. It also has a graham cracker crust with more graham crackers sprinkled on the top! Chocolate-dipped Key Lime Pie We LOVED this snack. It held its shape and the chocolate didn’t instantly melt. It tasted really delicious — just look at that thick layer of key lime — and was a good serving size, to boot! Chocolate-dipped Key Lime Pie As a few side notes though…this is not a frozen treat. And beware of the skewer in the middle, because it’s quite pointy! Parents will want to be especially aware before presenting this one to the kiddos. Chocolate-dipped Key Lime Pie For flavor and fun, though, the Chocolate-dipped Key Lime Pie is the perfect water park snack. You can grab one at Lottawatta Lodge for $4.29 or a snack credit if you are on the Disney Dining Plan. Chocolate-dipped Key Lime Pie Which Disney Water Park do you prefer? Aladdin Mac Event Then you may want to check out some of what we experienced recently at an incredibly fun media event for the new Disney Aladdin Collection by M•A•C and take a close look at the new cosmetics in the line! M•A•C shares that “this wish-fulfilling collaboration [with Disney] features smoky metallic and desert shades that reflect Jasmine’s strong-willed beauty.” Aladdin MAC Event We were even able to test out a few of the products from the limited-edition collection, which were actually worn by Jasmine in the film! Aladdin MAC Event So, let’s explore “a whole new world” of M•A•C makeup! Aladdin MAC Makeup Keynotes from the collection: The collection includes 4 rich shades of lipstick and 3 iridescent lip glosses which are really fun to mix and match! MAC Lipsticks Even the names of the pieces are cool, as they’re inspired by the film with names such as “Friend Like Me” (far left above) and “Princess Incognito” (far right above). MAC Lipgloss A Crystal Glaze Gloss, which is actually an ultra-moisturizing pearly clear gloss, will transform any lip colour with a glossy shine and hint of shimmer. MAC Aladdin Collection A Powder Blush, which we also think could be used as a bronzer or highlighter, comes in some simply gorgeous packaging. MAC Aladdin Collection It also comes in two different shades! Always One Jump Ahead is more of a shimmery gold color (above). Your Wish Is My Command (as you can see in the photo below) is more of a deep golden brown. MAC Aladdin Collection The Rose Pigment is perfect for your cheeks or lips. MAC Aladdin Collection The collection also includes an incredible Princess Jasmine eyeshadow palette. The range of colors in this palette offer great options for day and nighttime looks. You can also get a graphic black Technakohl eyeliner to go with your eyeshadow! Aladdin MAC Collection MAC Aladdin Collection We tried out the some of the makeup for ourselves and felt that the all-new, longer-lasting formulas are great, and the colors are lovely (and camera-ready, as we learned at the event).
