Nothing appears to have been added in its place just yet. Hollywood Brown Derby The pop-up bar on Hollywood Boulevard near the popcorn cart on the way toward Animation Courtyard is offering up two returning cocktails — Green Screen and Hollywood Lights — and one cocktail combination we’ve seen variations of, but which has been given a new-to-us name — Director’s Cut. Echo Lake Construction Wall Echo Lake Construction Wall The pop-up bar that was in this area has moved across from Oasis Canteen, and signs are up on the walls to direct guests to landmarks around the area. 4. Minnie now has her Mickey, as the Mickey Balloon Souvenir Popcorn Bucket is now at select Popcorn Carts in Disneyland! Mickey Balloon Bucket The Minnie Mouse Bucket made her debut in Disneyland (before becoming available in Disney World), while the Mickey Mouse Balloon Bucket arrived first in Disney World. Mickey Balloon Bucket And if you previously purchased the Minnie Bucket, you can now complete the happy pair with the Mickey Balloon Bucket’s arrival in Disneyland. (In fact, you may even notice that this particular sign pictured below still denotes the Minnie Bucket, even though it’s set beside the Mickey Bucket.) Mickey Balloon Bucket Note that the sign reads that this is a “Get Your Ears On” offering. Since the specialty treats available as part of “Get Your Ears On” are only available through May 27th, we’re not certain how long the Mickey Balloon Bucket will be around. 5. We know that many of you planned your Disney World vacation BEFORE the Galaxy’s Edge dates were released, so we want to do our best to help you navigate and alleviate the stress of some of those crowds! If you’re a morning person then you’re in for a treat with new EXTRA Extra Magic Hours! Not sure what that means? No problemo — we’re gonna tell you all about it! Regular Extra Magic Hours allow Disney World hotel guests to access the parks with low crowds first thing in the morning to enjoy the cooler temps, shorter lines, cool photos with fewer guests, etc. Now…you HAVE to be staying at a Disney resort in order to have access to these Extra Magic Hours. This is one of the many perks that Disney puts in place to get you to stay at one of their hotels over off-property hotels. Mine Train So, what are Extra Extra Magic Hours and why were they created? Well, Disney often has Extra Magic Hours, but these are typically just an hour or two in the morning or evening at the parks. Extra Extra Magic Hours are additional park hours that have been added for resort guests DAILY. Our guess is that Disney has done this to try to alleviate some of the Galaxy’s Edge crowds since an insane amount of guests will be heading to the parks for the opening of the new land this fall. Galaxy’s Edge is set to open on August 29th, which is why the Extra Extra Magic Hours will be offered every day starting September 1. They will continue until November 2, 2019, at the following theme parks and times. Hollywood Studios Okay friends, so the park that will be affected by the Extra Extra Magic hours the most will be Hollywood Studios. This park is going to be open at 6:00 AM and the EXTRA hours will last until 9:00 AM DAILY in an attempt to alleviate some of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge crowds. TWO sets of Extra Magic Hours for Magic Kingdom on some dates The catch is that these hours come so dang early you will literally have to get up around 4 or 4:30 in the morning if you want to rope drop this park to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land attractions and more. Of course, people are going to flock to Galaxy’s Edge during this time, which makes total sense as the crowds will be substantially lower during the extra magic hours in the morning than they will be when non-resort-guests are allowed to visit later in the day. Disney has noted that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and its experiences are subject to capacity…meaning that it isn’t guaranteed that you will get in! Star wars: Galaxy’s Edge Concept Art We’re speculating that this might also shift some of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios crowds in the afternoon as we’re guessing that people may leave the park to go somewhere else when the hours are over to avoid the incoming non-resort-guest visitors. And note that lines to enter the land should still be expected. It’s easy to assume that the later it gets in the morning the larger the crowds will be. BUT as we said above, MAYBE, just maybe, Extra Extra Magic Hour crowds in Hollywood Studios will leave when the hours are over and free up space for those waiting. But, we’re guessing that it’s still gonna be an “early bird gets the worm” thing for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If you’re PUMPED for Galaxy’s Edge and want to learn more about the upcoming land — click here! Resistance Supply in Galaxy’s Edge If you’re a morning person I think this can be really useful for you, even if you aren’t interested in Star Wars. Everyone will likely be heading straight for Galaxy’s Edge, so if you visit the other locations you will likely be able to knock out the rest of the park before Studios officially opens. Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom will also be getting a few Extra Extra Magic Hours. Starting on the same dates, Animal Kingdom — including Pandora – The World of Avatar and other attractions throughout the park — will be open for these extra hours from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM daily. This is going to be a GREAT opportunity to hop on Flight of Passage as we assume that most of the crowds will be rushing to Galaxy’s Edge. Take advantage of this system, folks, and use these hours to your advantage! It should be much simpler once Galaxy’s Edge opens to knock out big-ticket attractions since most people will choose to knock out Studios during that time. Pandora — The World of AVATAR Magic Kingdom Magic Kingdom will also be getting these Extra Extra Magic hours. Disney has said that the attraction will include favorites in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. The park will be open from for these extra hours from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM daily! I’m thinking this will really be a great time to enjoy Magic Kingdom crowd-free. You might even be able to get a few photos in front of the castle without hundreds of people in the background! Cinderella Castle We also think that it might be a good idea to get a mid-morning advance dining reservation at Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. This will give you a nice break after the Extra Extra Magic Hours and will allow you to chill a bit before a crowded afternoon! Epcot So, what about Epcot? The Epcot Food & Wine Festival will already be driving crowds through the roof from 11AM to closing at this park. And though Epcot isn’t receiving the morning magic hours, it might be a great park to hit first thing in the morning while folks are doing Extra Extra Magic Hours in other parks and before food booths open. Read all about the 2019 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival here! We really think this will be a good time to get in a couple popular rides like (Test Track and Soarin’, in that order if you ask me), and start the day with (possibly) calmer crowd levels. Then you will be able to hit the Food and Wine booths as soon as they open (11AM). This will leave you with the ability to escape the park in the afternoon/evening to head elsewhere. Soarin’ Around the World at Epcot A Few Closing Notes Our guess for what is going to happen throughout Disney World overall once these hours are implemented is that there will be more park mobility. We assume more people are going to be going from park to park with Park Hoppers as they try to navigate crowds while maximizing Extra Extra Magic Hours. And a few things for you guys to note: Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party dates occur during this time, meaning the party will clear out Magic Kingdom on select nights. So, make sure you are making time for a Magic Kingdom night if you are not attending a party. We also think that the Party might actually be a good way for you guys to get in more rides with smaller crowds. This will be really useful for you, especially if you have a really tight schedule during your vacation! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Map Also, often late night hours are good times, too, so you night owls aren’t totally out of luck! Maybe try hitting up an Extra Extra Magic Hour park, taking a nap, and then going out again in the evening, so you can still get your well-deserved beauty sleep! So, if you aren’t a Star Wars family, we really think that these Extra Extra Magic Hours will be useful for you! And if you are, you already know…get there early and may the Force be with you. 6. Welcome to ADVENTURELAND! Adventureland Sign The new Adventureland entrance sign has made its debut (and simultaneous return) in Disneyland. Adventureland entrance You see, the newly placed sign which now greets guests post-refurbishment reuses portions of the previous entry marquee, according to The Orange County Register. And the sign itself looks a lot like it did previously. The primary difference guests will notice is the widening of the pathway into the land, which the sign entirely stretches across. 11. We love when new frozen treats make their way into the parks, especially when the inevitable summer heat is drawing near. SweeTARTS Popsicle So, we were really jazzed when we found a new frozen treat option in Disney California Adventure made from one of our favorite candies! 12. The heat is on in central Florida, where summer comes early and stays late, but if you’re at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Pineapple Lanai is the place to go to stay cool. That’s because you’ll find Dole Whip here year-round — including two recent additions: Lime and Lemon. We turned these into a sweet swirl with a Dole Whip hack a couple weeks ago, and now… there’s MORE! Raspberry Dole Whip has arrived at Pineapple Lanai! And it gets better: guests can swirl it with lime for what’s angling to be the most refreshing frozen treat in the World! Raspberry-Lime Dole Whip Swirl at Pineapple Lanai! Our pal Kristen from WDWforGrownups.com gave us a peek at this treat, and let’s just say, we need to get our hot little hands on it ASAP! Up till now, the only place to find raspberry Dole Whip has been Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom where it’s used to craft the Hei Hei Character Cone. (Click here to see why we called the Hei Hei cone the cutest cone ever!) So, anyway, if you need us we’ll just be gettin’ our swirl on over at the Poly. Aloha until the next fabulous Dole Whip news! 13. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is opening NEXT week in Disneyland. And WE. CANNOT. WAIT! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ©Disney We’ve been covering everything from Galaxy’s Edge menu options to merchandise and ride facts, and we thought we’d knew just what to expect on the planet of Batuu. But then we heard about this… The OC Register shared a post which gave details about a slimy, one-eyed space squid that will be lurking in the “murky water of a glass cistern tank feeding a Disneyland drinking fountain.” When someone bends down to take a sip…a creature just might POP up to greet you. So…have those cameras ready for some funny moments. Not only will you possibly see the creature, but you might hear it as well, since it will be lurking in the pipes connected to the water fountain and the bathroom. This space squid is actually an audio-animatronic Dianoga that will call the pipes of the drinking fountain his home. The Walt Disney Imagineering executive creative director Chris Beatty said that “the sewer system contains a Dianoga to handle the sewer challenges that this outpost would have.” And big Star Wars fans might actually recognize this creature, as he’s the one that nearly drowned Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. A hairy one-eyed space squid suddenly appears when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge visitors get a drink of water. (Courtesy of starwars.com) Now when it comes to the size of this creature, be prepared because the Beatty also shared that “This isn’t some baby Dianoga living in the Galaxy’s Edge subterranean pipes. It’s a full-size hairy eyestalk just like the one seen in the first Star Wars film.” Disney has also shared that there are little moments like these sprinkled throughout the park, so keep those eyes peeled! After learning about this creature…we really don’t know what all Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will offer. It’s really happening….can you believe it? 14. All-Star Movies seems to be rolling out lots of delicious snack options lately. I mean we literally just reviewed a SUPER yummy Peaches and Cream cupcake that happens to be the perfect summer treat. Key Lime Cheesecake And now, we’ve tried the NEW Key Lime Cheesecake treat as well! We’ve seen cheesecakes like this before, but this one seems to be a little different. The Key Lime Cheesecake is a plain vanilla cheesecake with key lime mousse, glaze, and graham cracker crumbles on top. Key Lime Cheesecake We were pretty obsessed with the key lime mousse on top. But, the glaze didn’t really taste like anything, though it was sweet. Key Lime Cheesecake So, pretty much this is a classic cheesecake topped with a sugary glaze and delicious key lime mousse. So go ahead and dive into this yummy treat spoon first! Key Lime Cheesecake The portion was really nice and you can get it for $5.29 or a snack credit if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan. 15. Okay, my fellow cupcake lovers. If you know us you know we love tasting and reviewing our way through all that Disney has to offer…but we always seem to get really excited when we find new cupcake options. From the new Imagination Pink cupcake to the new bird cupcake at Animal Kingdom, we’ve really been getting our fill of icing lately. (But it’s never enough.) Peaches and Cream Cupcake And today we found another new cupcake we’re super excited about! And that icing happened to be the best part! (: If you find yourself at the All-Star Movies resort, you’ve got to try the new Peaches and Cream cupcake. Peaches and Cream Cupcake This delicious treat is a yellow cake topped with peach buttercream, vanilla buttercream, edible glitter, and sprinkles. Peaches and Cream Cupcake We LOVED the peach buttercream because it really tasted like a peach! The little dabs of white buttercream made us think of French vanilla ice cream, which was super yummy. The cake itself was baked perfectly, and we’re a sucker for anything sparkly, so really this treat was a winner in our books! Peaches and Cream Cupcake The Peaches and Cream cupcake can be found at All-Star Movies for $5.49 or one snack credit if you are a part of the Disney Dining Plan! And if you want to check out another new snack addition at Walt Disney World…you’ve got to see these new gourmet cotton candy flavors. They’re INSANE! 16. When Walt Disney World first announced a forthcoming option for guests and Annual Passholders to upgrade their MagicBands, we heard from a ton of DFB readers and followers who couldn’t wait to partake in this fun, personalized option. But since the bands became available to order on Monday (see the announcement here!), we’ve heard a lot more about glitches than successes. My Disney Experience screenshot If you’re one of the many who attempted to order a Disney icon, character, or snack MagicBand and met with limited (if any!) success, you’re not alone! We’re hearing about snags that include a reduced number of options when making a selection and orders being cancelled after they’ve been placed. My Disney Experience screenshot Disney hasn’t released any official account of why these things are happening, but some readers have reported calling Disney World and being told by cast members that many of the MagicBands have already sold out. That could explain why the options are reduced when guests try to order and why some orders are being canceled after the fact. Several MagicBand Upgrade options We’ll keep you posted if we learn anything official about the glitches in the MagicBand upgrade process — and if we hear that MagicBands are being restocked. In the meantime, comment below to let us know what you’ve encountered when trying to upgrade. And though it’s a poor consolation: know that you’re not alone in your MagicBand upgrading dismay. 18. Welcome to another What’s New from Walt Disney World’s Epcot! We’ll be strolling through Future World and World Showcase to give you a look at construction, merchandise, and FOOD! Grab your passport, and let’s stroll! Welcome to Epcot! What’s New in Epcot’s Future World Construction at Epcot is visible before you even leave your car! The Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster is housed inside this massive building (painted blue, presumably, so it can disappear into the blue sky beyond), which looms large on the horizon as you walk towards the park’s entrance. Guardians of the Galaxy Construction And, in case you missed it, work has begun in removing the Leave A Legacy photos as the entrance of Epcot begins its transformation. The original was bright red and drew some skeptical responses from readers concerned about the color. (See our review here!) Mickey Oreo Cheesecake The new version removes the red frosting layer in favor of a cookies-and-cream layer that tops plain cheesecake. It seems to be a little smaller than the original, and it no longer features two mini Oreos on the ears. Instead, there’s a stick pushing into the side of the cheesecake, making this one… portable? Mickey Oreo Cheesecake Changed Except, from the looks of it, Mickey isn’t super happy about it. This cheesecake was already cracking in the pastry case. 21. One question I am often asked is, “AJ, what do you eat in the parks when you aren’t gathering info for DFB readers?” My answer? Well, I have several favorites. And for years, one of them has been the Frangipane at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion. Frangipane Pictured above you’ll see the classic version I’ve loved ever since the first time I tried it. And I know what you’re thinking: “What’s the big deal?” But there’s always been more to this deceptively simple pastry than meets the eye. As it turns out, though… my beloved Frangipane has been changed. The menu will still tell you that the Frangipane ($4.50 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit) is an “almond filling between puff pastry.” New Frangipane at Les Halles No longer a triangle, we received a rectangular shape with far more topping than the slight dusting of sugar I’m accustomed to. The newly added coarse sugar on top lends the treat a crunch, and I didn’t mind the variation in texture. In fact, it added more texture than sweetness, which is great in that it’s still not an overly sweet treat. New Frangipane And, thankfully, what makes the unassuming Frangipane so memorable — that incredible almond center formed with plenty of butter, sugar, and eggs — is still present in abundance within the light and flaky pastry. New Frangipane Whew! I’m happy to say that the Frangipane at Les Halles is still one of my top recommendations for great snacking in Epcot’s World Showcase!
