  8. Epcot is currently undergoing an enormous transformation. Epcot Entrance The park-wide changes range from upcoming dining experiences like the space-themed restaurant and Takumi-Tei both coming this year to new attractions like the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy ride and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure to new nighttime spectaculars and more. Guardians of the Galaxy Construction In fact, lots of changes are coming to the very front of the park, as even the Epcot entrance is being transformed. Epcot Entrance The entrance changes started with an overhaul of the parking lot tram pickup and drop-off area which is currently in progress. And as of today, the work behind the transformation is immediately seen upon entering the park itself. Epcot Entrance As Disney previously announced, the Leave A Legacy photos which have welcomed guests into the park are being moved to a new setting just outside the park’s gateway to make way for new pathways, green spaces and a newly reimagined fountain as part of the guest entry experience. And the removal of the Leave A Legacy photos has begun in earnest, as walls are now placed around the photos on the right as you enter the park. Epcot Entrance Leave A Legacy photos can still be seen on the left as you enter… for now. Epcot Entrance Epcot Entrance It’s all to usher in a reimagined Epcot. What do you think so far? 9. The Play Disney Parks app will give guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge the chance to interact with the land in truly unique ways. It will, in essence, be converted into your very own Star Wars datapad once you set foot on the planet Batuu. Play Disney Parks App Today, Disney has revealed a few more details on the app’s features within Galaxy’s Edge, and we’ll start by taking a look at how it will enhance your experience in the land’s opening day attraction, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Not only will there be no shortage of things to see in the queue for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run… there will be even more ways to stay entertained in line with an in-queue game via Play Disney Parks! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks Disney shares that guests will be able to “take on a job for Hondo Ohnaka, the pirate turned ‘legitimate’ businessman operating Ohnaka Transport Solutions out of Black Spire Outpost.” You may reroute misplaced cargo, “learn how to keep your cover under pressure” and even prepare the Falcon for your flight! Outpost Control Whose side are you on: the Resistance or the First Order? A land-wide game by the name of Outpost Control will let you declare your allegiance to either side as both “vie for a hold on the land” as the First Order attempts to install surveillance devices in door panels to spy on the Resistance. Disney shares that “Winners may even find themselves rewarded with galactic credits for their efforts.” Interactive Tools And, of course, four tools and features will allow you to interact with Galaxy’s Edge itself! Datapad Preview The Hack feature will allow you to “interact with certain door panels or droids to see their memories,” while Scan will give you the chance to see inside cargo crates dotting Black Spire Outpost. 12. If you’ve got an upcoming stay booked at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel or you are a Disney World Annual Passholder, the previously announced option to upgrade your MagicBand is now live on My Disney Experience! My Disney Experience screenshot Disney Resort hotel guests and new and renewing Annual Passholders are now presented with the option to upgrade from the typical complimentary solid-color MagicBand to one of more than 30 new MagicBand options. The pre-arrival purchase price is $14.99 off the retail price you would find in the parks, with prices varying by design. My Disney Experience screenshot And, may I just point out… THERE’S A FLYNN RIDER MAGICBAND AMONG THE OPTIONS!!!! Oh, AND Disney iconic snacks, too! Ok, back to the story … as a reminder, guests may still choose a complimentary solid color MagicBand at no additional cost. Guests who DO choose to upgrade will want to know that the new designs can still be shipped to guests’ homes in the U.S. if ordered 11 or more days ahead of arrival. Note that — as of press time — some guests are experiencing errors with the new launch, but presumably the upgrade experience will be fully functioning soon. For those unfamiliar with MagicBands, Disney provides the following: “The MagicBand, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, effortlessly links the Walt Disney World Resort vacation choices and plans guests make in the My Disney Experience app – from entering the parks to redeeming FastPass+ selections, using dining plan credits, linking Disney PhotoPass photos and more.” Will you be upgrading your next MagicBand? 14. Phenomenal shopping and incredible dining, words synonymous with Disney Springs. However, this week it’s all about the delectable dining for members of the Disney Parks Moms Panel. From Signature dining to Quick Service, they are offering up some of their favorite picks when it comes to the many choices found at Disney Springs. “To our family, Disney Springs has become a ‘theme park for foodies,’ and picking a favorite dining spot is like choosing your favorite child,” laughs Eean. “However, my family loves to eat at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ because, well … you had me at Fried Chicken and Doughnuts! My kids are still talking about the “Bunch of Puppies” hushpuppies with the red pepper jelly. This is southern hospitality at its finest.” Looking for a great date night location? Jessica’s top pick is The BOATHOUSE. “My husband and I really love signature dining, and some of our current favorite signature restaurants can actually be found at Disney Springs. Recently we’ve been finding ourselves back at The BOATHOUSE over and over again,” she explains. “Everything is delicious here, but we can’t resist splitting the Original Lobster Bake for Two and the incredible Truffle Fries. With that spectacular food, a great glass of wine, and the beautiful sunset over the water, it’s the perfect Disney date night.” Looking for food on the go? Brandy B. believes you have not been to Disney Springs if you have not stopped by The Daily Poutine. “I must say, getting poutine just right is hard to do, but The Daily Poutine is as authentic as it gets!” she exclaims. “From the thick fries to the good squeaky cheese (yes, poutine cheese has to squeak!), they have it down pat. Be sure to check out their current menu specials.” For Kari, her go to Quick Service choice is Wolfgang Puck® Express at Disney Springs Marketplace! “The food is amazing, the service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is fabulous! Plus – as a bonus, Disney Dining Plans are accepted. My favorite menu items are the pizza and pasta items. I absolutely love the macaroni & cheese!” Ashley P. and Jason love the kid-friendly atmospheres found at T-REX and Rainforest Café® at Disney Springs Marketplace. “When the lightning booms and the rain falls at Rainforest Café, the animals begin to trumpet and hoot. Make sure to order the Volcano dessert and yell “VOLCANO!” when it erupts on your table,” recommends Jason. And let’s not forget snacks, whether to enjoy while exploring all there is to see at Disney Springs, or to take back to your resort for a late-night snack. “My family loves to stop by Goofy’s Candy Company,” explains Samantha. You can create your own Mickey-shaped Rice Krispie Treat. Simply fill out a paper to tell the Cast Members what type of toppings you would like, and you can watch them make it for you. My personal favorite? Peanut butter chips and milk chocolate drizzle on mine.” For more great tips on planning your next visit to Disney Springs or for general Disney vacation questions, visit DisneyParksMomsPanel.com for an answer from one of our panelists. 16. Walt Disney World is experiencing a lot of growth, and we’re not just talking about the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will occur on August 29! Indeed, Disney World is growing in many different ways, and by 2021 — just two years from now — our vacations to the World might look very different. Epcot in 2021? Let’s take a look at the changes coming to Disney World and what they might mean for you and your visit! You might…stay somewhere brand new! Five new hotels have been announced as opening in the next two years, and while some have set completion dates (like Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs and Riviera Resort), others are still works in progress. The Star Wars-themed hotel may be the most anticipated of the quintet. It’s billed as an immersive experience in which guests are essentially characters in the Star Wars universe, isolated from the World outside. (Even the view out the windows will mimic space rather than central Florida!) Star Wars Resort Concept Art Click here for more info about the Star Wars-themed resort! Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge will be a deluxe hotel with 900 hotel rooms plus DVC villas. It will be located between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge and will reflect the natural world around it. (Click here to read about the announcement!) Reflections Concept Art © Disney The Cove is a Marriott Hotel in the vein of Swan and Dolphin — which are on Disney property but operated by Marriott. The Cove will open on March 1, 2021, and feature 14 stories and 343 rooms. Disney says about half of those rooms will convert into business spaces, too, making it a resort that will cater to the business set. The Cove will join Swan and Dolphin! Gran Destino Tower is a massive, 15-story, 545-room addition to Coronado Springs Resort that will include a rooftop restaurant with views of nighttime shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Gran Destino will open on July 9, 2019, which means you might be staying in the Tower even sooner! Gran Destino Tower Riviera Resort is a DVC property opening near Caribbean Beach Resort. Riviera will have several brand new dining spots (including another rooftop restaurant) and its very own Skyliner station! This family-friendly resort consists of spacious deluxe studios and villas of various sizes. Riviera will begin welcoming guests on December 16, 2019. Riviera Resort Concept Art ©Disney You might…eat someplace new! Several new dining spots are set to open around the World, including Epcot’s space-themed restaurant! This table service spot remains shrouded in mystery for the most part; but we know it will be helmed by Chef Theo Schoenegger, who opened two other Patina Group restaurants in Disney World recently — Maria & Enzo’s and Enzo’s Hideaway. The space-themed restaurant will feature international cuisine along with craft beer selections and 1000 bottles of the world’s finest wines. It will open later this year! Space-themed Restaurant Concept Art © Disney Click here to see what we know about Space 220 so far! Also to be located in Epcot: a brand new signature table service restaurant in Japan! Takumi-Tei is currently under construction with an opening season set this Summer. (See the latest Takumi-Tei details here!) Takumi-Tei concept art ©Disney Meanwhile in Epcot’s France, a Crêperie will open with both a table service and quick service component. No opening date has been released for the restaurant, but with Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure rumored to open in 2020, we expect the Crêperie will follow suit. (Find Crêperie details here!) Creperie Concept Art ©Disney Disney Springs continues to develop with two new West Side spots set to open this year. In summer 2019, City Works Eatery will open, bringing craft beer and American food. The NBA Experience is also set to open in summer 2019 — August 12, to be precise — and will allow guests to experience 13 interactive activities that put them in the shoes of a professional basketball player! NBA Experience ©Disney And of course Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will bring three new food experiences to Walt Disney World. Docking Bay 7 and Cargo will be the go-to place for plated meals, while Ronto Roasters and Kat Saka’s Kettle will be quick service and and snack spots, respectively. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo ©Disney Parks Check out the details of dining in Galaxy’s Edge! New hotels also mean new places to grab a bite to eat, and Riviera Resort is set to open a rooftop restaurant called Topolino’s Terrace — Flavors of the Riviera that will also serve up a character meal as well as views of nighttime shows at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Likewise, Gran Destino Tower’s rooftop Toledo — Tapas, Steak, and Seafood will offer views and Spanish-inspired food! You might… grab a drink at a new watering hole! Galaxy’s Edge will also offer two special spots to rehydrate! Milk Stand will serve up the iconic Blue Milk and the fun Green Milk — see their flavors here! And Oga’s Cantina will offer out-of-this-world libations crafted by Oga Garra, alien proprietor. Moogan Tea, Blue Bantha, Bloody Rancor and Black Spire Brew ©Disney Parks Toledo — Tapas, Steak, and Seafood atop Gran Destino Tower and Topolino’s Terrace atop Riviera Resort will both offer lounges and specialty beverages along with their views! You might… travel by Skyliner! Disney World’s newest form of transportation is making steady progress toward completion, and with stations at Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Pop Century/Art of Animation, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Skyliner is set to revolutionize how guests get around the World! Disney Skyliner Gondolas!! Gondolas on the Skyliner will feature some of our favorite Disney characters — making the Skyliner not just a way to travel from place to place but also a ride unto itself! Disney Skyliner Gondola Featuring Moana You might… experience lots of new attractions! 20. In addition to the Tomorrowland Speedway reopening for guests today, we got a GREAT view of the progress on the upcoming TRON coaster — things are going vertical! TRON Coaster Construction We first spotted some of the vertical beams (some of which will be 80 ft tall!) going up at the beginning of May. You can check out some more photos of the construction and everything else that’s new in the Magic Kingdom here! The project has already been under construction for over a year now, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. TRON Coaster Construction The TRON attraction already exists at Disneyland Shanghai as the TRON Lightcycle Power Run, and some of the workers who built the original attraction are working on this one as well. The attraction will have riders “getting digitized” while they “race as a team against some opponents.” And from what we hear the daytime and nighttime experience will be completely different! TRON Coaster Construction You can read more about the coming attraction — along with how it’s affecting the rest of Magic Kingdom — here. The new attraction will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021! Want to stay informed of ALL the Disney News?? 22. Touring Disneyland today (and checking out the beautiful new Sleeping Beauty Castle), we were lucky enough to come across one of the newest pairs of Minnie Ears! New Rainbow Ears These new Rainbow Ears — which have also been called “Pride Ears” — are scheduled to be released on May 20th. But on our visit we found them out early at the Mad Hatter shop and were able to purchase them. From what we’ve heard, the ears have been pulled from the floor since. The detail on these is so much fun. Black sequined ears are punctuated by a strong, vibrant rainbow Minnie mouse bow. The satin bow seems to be quilted, so you have a little bit of padding in each stripe. Rainbow Ears Detail These ears are $27.99 before any discounts are applied. And, again, they’re supposed to be released on May 20th, but you may luck into finding some a little earlier! What do you think about these? Are these a must-have or a no-go for you? 23. Just yesterday, we took a peek at Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle now that the tarp which covered the Castle during refurbishment work has been removed. Sleeping Beauty Castle And today, we have a look at the Castle in full, as The Orange County Register has shared both a picture and information about the Castle’s official reopening date. Photo by Rob Sparacio, Disneyland ©Disney It is anticipated that Sleeping Beauty Castle will reopen on May 24th, according to the article! The following quote was shared from Jim Slagle, Disneyland’s Director of Facility Asset Management: “We’re so proud of how it’s turned out. It’s going to look incredible when the fences drop and the scrims come down.” Fresh and brighter paint and gold leaf along with golden pixie dust are all part of the results of the work which immediately greet the eye. The Orange County Register reveals that the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough will reopen on May 24th as well, and also states that “Disney craftspeople used the castle downtime to update the audio, lighting and show elements in the attraction” which shares the story of Sleeping Beauty in vignettes. (Note that, at press time, the reopening date for the Walkthrough is still reflected as May 28th on the Disneyland website.)
