La Brea Bakery‘s first shop opened its doors in 1989, and since then, the name has become synonymous with artisan and heirloom breads. The Downtown Disney location in Disneyland is a satisfying place to grab a delicious brunch — and get a taste of American culinary history! La Brea Bakery Service at Disneyland’s La Brea Bakery is two-fold. First, there’s an Express window where guests can order and carry out. Second, there’s a table service restaurant where guests can make Advance Dining Reservations or walk-up. La Brea Bakery The decor is Craftsman style, in keeping with the nearby Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, which captures that spirit as well. You’ll see lots of wood shingles and molding with linear light design and natural colors. La Brea Bakery Patio Seating And the food? Well, let’s just say that first impressions are not misleading at La Brea Bakery! La Brea Bakery Brunch We tried three brunch menu options in the table service portion of the Bakery: Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes, Pecan-Stuffed French Toast, and a Croissant Sandwich. The Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes are as classic as they come — and they’re big enough to share for sure, especially if you want to sample some of La Brea’s baked goods or other brunch menu items. They’re served up as big as your head with sides of butter and maple syrup. Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes Pecan-Stuffed French Toast is stuffed with the Bakery’s cream cheese blend and pecans, and topped with blueberries, banana, and a dusting of powdered sugar. Pecan Stuffed French Toast This French toast is terrific. The cream cheese filling is flavorful, and the pecans aren’t overwhelming. With the side of maple syrup, this is a sweet — but not overly so — brunch. Pecan Stuffed French Toast Our final brunch dish is a Breakfast Croissant, and as promised it’s on one of the Bakery’s crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside croissants. Croissant Sandwich The pecan-smoked bacon is a crispy option and not your average Disney bacon. There are lots of scrambled eggs and white cheddar cheese, too. Croissant Sandwich The Breakfast Croissant is a big sandwich and share-able, again, if you plan on trying more than one menu item. As fuel for your day, it doesn’t get much better than this with protein to help a guest ride all the rides. Croissant Sandwich La Brea Bakery is a wonderful addition to the Downtown Disney breakfast/brunch scene (they serve dinner, too!), with classic, comforting menu items to satisfy and fuel loads of fun. The best part: it’s outside the park, so even if you’re not heading into the Parks, you can still enjoy it! And you should. Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! It’s almost time… Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in Disneyland on May 31st and in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios on August 29th. Five eateries will serve visitors in Black Spire Outpost. Black Spire Outpost on Batuu ©Disney/Lucasfilm And Disney has just provided further details on some of the galactic goodies we’ll experience when we set foot on planet Batuu! Disney shares that: “due to the remote nature of the planet, Batuu has a deep history of ‘farm to table’ style whole foods with cooking traditions that have been passed down generation to generation, influencing the dishes found in the outpost. Oga’s Cantina Oga Garra is the alien proprietor of Oga’s Cantina and “boss of the Black Spire Outpost underworld.” You should know that Oga herself is not often inside the Cantina, but “Her patrons come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions offered here. With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on the horizon, our creative teams have been hard at work crafting the innovative food and beverage offerings that guests will experience when they visit the Black Spire Outpost. Today, I’m excited to share those incredible menus with you in this tasty Foodie Guide for the highly-anticipated lands coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort this year. Located on the never-before-seen planet of Batuu, the Black Spire Outpost (which is the name of the village in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge) serves as a remote trading port for smugglers, traders, and adventurers traveling the Outer Rim and Wild Space. A once busy crossroads on the galaxy’s edge now surpassed by the rise of hyperspace travel, the infamous village is a thriving port for those traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. The outpost also serves as a home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, as well as a safe haven for those avoiding the reach of the First Order. In the Star Wars galaxy, due to the remote nature of the planet, Batuu has a deep history of “farm to table” style whole foods with cooking traditions that have been passed down generation to generation, influencing the dishes found in the outpost. Each dish tells a story of the local culture, drawing inspiration from unique spices, ingredients, and cooking techniques. Weary travelers can take refuge in Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or even grab a specialty cocktail in the outpost’s favorite watering hole, Oga’s Cantina. They can also grab a quick bite (or some Blue Milk!) at one of the stands located in the Black Spire Outpost. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo A multi-purpose transport shuttle docked on top of a large hangar will beckon guests into Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, a designated location for traveling food shuttles. Docked in the hangar is Tugg’s Grub, a “traveling diner for diners traveling” run by Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs. In high-demand for his cooking skills, he moves from site to site in a modified Sienar-Chall Utilipede Transport that can be transformed into a mobile kitchen and restaurant. His travels across the galaxy allow him to fill his pantry with exotic ingredients which he uses to make new and unusual dishes inspired by his time on Takodana. Very little is known about Oga herself. She’s not usually at the Cantina, preferring to collect payments remotely, and most of the locals have never laid eyes on her before. Her patrons come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions offered here. These beverages are created with unique ingredients using “otherworldly” methods. In addition, Oga regularly procures unique shipments of beers, cider, and wines. While partaking in these thirst-quenching concoctions, guests can enjoy the musical stylings of DJ R-3X (also known as REX), the former Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours. He’s reinvented himself as the cantina’s resident DJ and is quirky and talkative as ever, just trying to do his best on the job. We had a sweet time in the park this week as we found new eats, a ton of new Aladdin-inspired merchandise, and caught up on the construction in park (including an area getting a new paint job)! May 31, 2019 is the opening day for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. And because the land’s opening is so highly anticipated, the typical logistics of visiting Disneyland park are being adjusted accordingly. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Before we begin: a reminder that from May 31 – June 23, 2019, only guests who have booked a required, no cost reservation (either from general public booking, which is completely full, or by booking a room at one of the three Disneyland hotels) may enter Galaxy’s Edge. A reservation will no longer be required starting June 24, 2019. Because opening weeks are limited to only guests with reservations, there is no need to line up early (no standby access will be available during the reservation period). However, guests will still want to be aware of parking logistics for the land’s opening weeks. And Disney has announced that parking will open at Midnight on May 31st for the land’s opening day. ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter Starting June 1st, parking lots will open no later than 5:30 AM. Mickey & Friends and Toy Story will be the two primary guest parking lots, and guests can follow @Disneyland Today on Twitter for live parking updates. You can check out the video Disney has provided in the “Know Before You Go” series to hear it all. Take it away! Oh, and if you’re visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge starting June 24th, you will definitely want to read up on the Virtual Queue system which will be needed to gain access into the land! Will you be visiting Disneyland during the opening weeks of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? Please let us know with a comment! Yesterday we were checking out a couple of new menu additions in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland with the arrival of the Minnie Cookie Dough Sundae at Storybook Treats and the Tangled Éclair at Pinocchio Village Haus. Friar’s Nook Sign But while we were checking out the new arrivals, we couldn’t help but notice some removals from a menu in Fantasyland, too… specifically, at The Friar’s Nook. The Friar is known for changing things up every so often, moving from a variety of Mac and Cheese dishes to Loaded Tots and then, most recently, featuring selections of both on the menu. Friar’s Nook Menu But now… well, you’ll notice a lot less on the menu, as the Fiesta Macaroni and Cheese and Loaded Fiesta Tots have been removed, along with the Creamy Bacon Tots. However, you’ll notice that the Creamy Bacon Macaroni and Cheese Tots are still available, so it’s quite likely you may still be able to order the Creamy Bacon Tots (and likewise, simply the Creamy Bacon Macaroni and Cheese) by request. But that’s not all… Creamy Bacon Mac and Cheese Tots at Friar’s Nook Also gone from the menu? The Fried Twinkie! Fried Twinkie Alas! Still, as we mentioned, things do change with some frequency at Friar’s Nook, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for whatever the Friar starts cooking up next! What do you think of the changes at The Friar’s Nook? Please let us know with a comment! We could not be more excited for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park! The opening of this brand new, 14-acre land—the biggest single-land expansion at a Disney Park—is huge! Did you get your reservations yet? You can still get a guaranteed Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation by staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel between May 31 and June 23, 2019. If you are planning to visit during the first few weeks of the land’s opening, we have some important arrival information to share with you, including parking and theme park entry. Good news: since we have a reservation system in place, there is no need to arrive super early and line up! As we have shared previously, we have a new parking structure, Pixar Pals, opening soon. Until then, Mickey & Friends and Toy Story will be the two primary guest parking lots. As you arrive, you will be directed to the appropriate lot, and you can always check @DisneylandToday for parking updates. Hear more from Disney Ambassador Justin Rapp in this episode of “Know Before You Go!” After June 23, reservations are no longer required to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and the Disneyland Resort will utilize a virtual queueing system, as needed, to continue to provide a great guest experience, so guests will be free to enjoy the rest of the resort while waiting to get called back to enter the land. Guests, once inside the park, will be able to request to join a boarding group to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge via the Disneyland app, or a non-technology option. We know there is a lot of anticipation for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and with nearly 65 years of experience as the leader in themed entertainment, coupled with strategic operational planning tools put in place, and 14 additional acres of new experiences, the Disneyland Resort looks forward to continuing to provide the legendary guest experience for which is it known, this summer and beyond. Stay tuned on the Disney Parks Blog for more information. *Access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experiences is subject to capacity. After June 23, 2019, when reservations will no longer be required, access to Disneyland Park, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and experiences is subject to capacity View the full article
