  8. “It’s a bird! It’s a plane!” Actually… it’s a bird. AND a cupcake. It’s the Bird Cupcake, and you can currently find it in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Bird Cupcake Creature Comforts and Restaurantosaurus are the current homes of this colorful cupcake. Bird Cupcake Oodles of bright and vivid buttercream make up the cheerful bird. Bird Cupcake You’ll also spot a few chocolate feathers underneath those formed of frosting. Bird Cupcake The cake base is supposed to be lemon, according to signage, but if any lemon was present at all it was hard to pick up on, with the cake pretty much tasting like your basic vanilla. Bird Cupcake The blueberry cheesecake filling was likewise light in flavor, but it did carry a hint of an enjoyable tang. Bird Cupcake So, don’t expect a big flavor punch here. But you can look forward to a cute and tasty cupcake celebrating some of Animal Kingdom’s star residents, in any case! Would you like to try the Bird Cupcake? Please let us know with a comment! 11. Classic Afternoon Tea at Steakhouse 55 is a Disneyland Hotel treat. And both new and returning guests can often look forward to special, seasonal themed teas. For instance, we’ve previously enjoyed the Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea and Mickey’s Tea Party Celebration as part of “Get Your Ears On” — A Mickey and Minnie Celebration. 12. For a while now Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea Company has sold crave-worthy GIANT donuts at the Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea kiosks throughout Disney World. Giant Donuts Joining the scene more recently, though, are the also-giant Mickey Celebration donuts (a limited-time snack available through June 30th as part of Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration found at The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland). So…we began to wonder what’s the difference between these massive treats? And which one would we recommend when a donut craving strikes? That’s why we decided to try both at the same time to see how they compare when it comes to the cute factor, price, and taste! Giant Donuts Taste-wise, both the giant Mickey donut and the giant Joffrey’s donut are, simply, pretty delicious. In fact, they taste VERY similar even though they are made by different companies. But, if you’re still a little skeptical, we have reviewed both of these donuts before, so if you want to dive into the taste even more check those out! View the Mickey Celebration donut review here. And the giant Joffrey’s donut review here! Onto the price… we purchased a giant strawberry donut from the Joffrey’s Revive kiosk in Tomorrowland near Space Mountain. The price including tax is $5.32. Giant Joffrey’s Donut Then, we purchased a giant Mickey Celebration donut from The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland. The price of this donut after tax is $9.58 which is a pretty big difference (though keep in mind that those Ears add some extra donut goodness for ya). Giant Mickey Donut Now, the Mickey donut is clearly cuter than the standard giant Joffrey’s donut… Though Joffrey’s does serve new mini-donuts that are super cute in their own right. But, for the purpose of this post, the Mickey donut takes the cute vote. So, since these two donuts taste the same…it really comes down to what’s important to you. Are you more concerned with look or price? If you looking for a cheaper option, the Joffrey’s donut is the clear winner. If you’re concerned with Instagram cuteness, then go for the Mickey donut! 13. I’ll never forget the first time I saw “Toy Story.” It was a revelation! It had a great story, with great characters, and it looked unlike anything I had seen before. Each new adventure with Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys has gotten better and better, and now I can’t wait to experience “Toy Story 4” later this summer. We won’t have to wait long at all, though, to get a special look at part of the movie. For a limited time this summer, a preview of scenes from Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” will be presented in sneak peeks coming to Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line. Here’s Tony Hale, who provides the voice of Forky in the film, to tell you more: At Disneyland park, the preview of “Toy Story 4” will be presented at the Tomorrowland Theater beginning May 24, and starting the same day Disney’s Hollywood Studios will include this advance look at a portion of the film as part of the Walt Disney Presents attraction. Guests aboard Disney Cruise Line can catch the sneak peek during sailings between May 24 and June 20, and Disneyland Paris will offer this unique opportunity in the Studio Theater at Walt Disney Studios Park from June 18 – 28. When we catch up with him in Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4,” Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries. Here’s a look at the latest trailer for Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4,” which ventures into U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019. View the full article
  14. Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle has been hidden from view while undergoing a lengthy refurbishment which began in January. Sleeping Beauty Castle And while the walls surrounding the Castle are still present, the scrim that has been covering Sleeping Beauty Castle has been removed! Sleeping Beauty Castle Guests can now see much of the vibrant and vividly hued blue and pink color scheme, with pops of golden “pixie dust.” The refurbishment of the Castle is part of Project Stardust — an overarching plan which includes “a number of enhancements” to the entire Disneyland Resort — and in particular Disneyland park – in an effort to “continue to deliver a world-class guest experience” in advance of the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. At press time, it still appears that the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough will open again to guests starting May 28, 2019. And we can’t wait! 15. As we approach July’s opening of Gran Destino Tower as part of the exciting reimagining of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, we thought Disney Parks Blog readers would like a first peek at some of the stunning new Disney cast costumes created to complement the Resort’s reimagined design. The new costumes were just revealed at a special cast member runway-style fashion show at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. And as you can see, the brilliantly-colored costumes tie together the resort’s classic Spanish influences and imaginative Disney touches. For the collection, Costume Designer Josh Winchester worked closely with Executive Architect David Stofcik and the Walt Disney Imagineering team to bring the story and setting of Gran Destino Tower to life in each garment. Josh looked to the works of Spanish artists for an earthy color palette, bold patterns and beautiful textures. Not only do the new costumes transport Disney cast members back to the daring age of the great Spanish explorers, artists, writers and architects, but the timeless designs also take modern day function into account. There are also customizable costume options, including a “mix and match” collection of pieces for some resort areas. It won’t be long before you’ll be seeing these costumes at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Let us know what you think! Also, check out our earlier Gran Destino Tower story for more details and information on booking a reservation. View the full article
  16. The Disney Parks Merchandise team loves finding new ways to make the shopping experience more convenient for guests before, during and after their Disney vacation. You may recall I recently shared details about the new online reservation system for merchandise experiences at Disney Parks that makes it easier than ever to make or cancel appointments. That same spirit of improvement is now coming to the online store this month. I’m delighted to share that shopDisney is now the one-stop, online retail destination for Disney merchandise, including merchandise from Disney Parks. As a result, we will be retiring the standalone Shop Disney Parks app on May 31, 2019. By downloading the shopDisney app or visiting shopDisney.com, you will discover an even larger selection of favorite items and beloved keepsakes from Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and more. The site also offers options for adding personal touches to your trip down Main Street, U.S.A. including the newly introduced Disney Parks customizable T-shirts and gear. At Walt Disney World Resort, My Disney Experience will continue offering popular shopping features guests have come to love such as the product availability map or the ability to ship select merchandise to home (U.S. addresses only) when you order through the My Disney Experience. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members will also continue to receive eligible discounts when shopping from My Disney Experience. If you are looking for merchandise from Disney Parks on shopDisney, I suggest these two options depending on if you are using the app or web to shop: push the “Shop” button at the bottom of the shopDisney app and look for the “Disney Parks” category, or look for the “Parks” tab on the main page of shopDisney.com. 24. If you’re heading to Disney World with your fabulous Disney squad, you’re going to want to share some good eats — and we’re talking ultimate foods! And you KNOW that we at DFB know all about THAT! Here are twelve ultimate foods to share with your #DisneySquad! Kitchen Sink — Yacht and Beach Club Resorts Beaches & Cream‘s Kitchen Sink is the ULTIMATE ultimate food to share with your Disney squad. This massive sink-bowl is packed with scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate chip ice cream and then topped with every ice cream topping in the restaurant (and a full can of whipped cream!). Yeah, it’s amazing. Classic Kitchen Sink and Chocolate Lovers Kitchen Sink The menu says the Kitchen Sink serves four — but if you’re with your squad of more than four, we’re pretty sure you’ll all feel satisfied after this one. So rich. So much sugar. So fun. It’s a must. Check out the DFB Guide video about the Kitchen Sink, and then gather your pals. Hibachi at Teppan Edo — Epcot’s Japan Pavilion Japan’s Teppan Edo is a super place to get a meal and a show! This hibachi experience brings everyone to the table to watch a chef prepare your meal — with flare! We’re talking onion volcano, people! The interaction between the chef and the diners is great, and the food is decent! If you and your squad are looking for a high-energy, delicious night out, head to Teppan Edo! Teppan Edo chef in action Click here to see our most recent review of Teppan Edo! ‘Ohana Bread Pudding — Polynesian Village Resort We talk a lot about ‘Ohana Bread Pudding here at DFB, but that’s only because it’s totally awesome. The caramel sauce poured atop a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cascading over the slightly sweet bread pudding is pretty much indulgence on a plate. And bonus: it comes with the whole ‘Ohana experience! Because ‘Ohana means family, and what better word to describe your Disney squad? ‘Ohana Bread Pudding with Sauce Want to see why you and your squad need ‘Ohana Bread Pudding? Watch this DFB Guide video! (Warning: you’re going to be hungry by the time it’s over. Get snacks.) Ice Cream Flight — Ample Hills Creamery, BoardWalk Inn Ooh, it’s another share-able frozen treat for your Disney squad — and this one has something for everyone! Ample Hills Creamery devises some of the best ice cream we’ve ever had, and their Ice Cream Flight allows you to try six different flavors on one convenient tray. That’s perfect for your squad because everyone can choose his or her favorite… and you all get to try a fun selection of ice creams. Ice Cream Flight See what we had in our Ample Hills flights — and start thinking about what you’d pick, too! Nutella and Fruit Waffle — Sleepy Hollow, Magic Kingdom If you and your squad are heading to Magic Kingdom, swing by Sleepy Hollow for the Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich. That’s the official name, but we think of this one as the Nutella waffle sandwich. That’s because it slathered in the sweet spread before it’s piled high with strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. This treat is definitely share-able, so grab one (or two), and fuel up with your crew! Fresh Fruit Nutella Waffle Sandwich Find out why we call the Nutella waffle sandwich “stupid good” here!! Pizza — Via Napoli, Epcot’s Italy Pavilion If your squad loves a good pizza pie, make an Advance Dining Reservation at Via Napoli in the Italy pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. Here you’ll want to get a few individual pizzas with different toppings — or really go for it, and get the 1/2 meter mezzo metro. This shockingly big pizza can be customized, or you can choose one or two pizza combos from the menu. Either way, you can feed a small army with this one — and your squad will thank you for it. Pizza the size of small children See why we love Via Napoli here! Cookies ‘n’ Cream Funnel Cake — Oasis Canteen, Disney’s Hollywood Studios If a fried treat is your squad’s game, head to Oasis Canteen at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for an epic funnel cake. This is cookies ‘n’ cream, and it’s outrageous. A thick, crispy funnel cake is topped with powdered sugar, pulverized oreos, a swirl of vanilla soft serve, chocolate sauce, and a pair of Oreo Mickey ears. Point of fact: you’ll need your squad to help you eat this because it’s so big. Cookies & Cream Funnel Cake It also happens to be one of the best monetary snack credit values on the Disney Dining Plan, so if your squad is going all out for DDP, get this! Indian Bread Service — Sanaa, Animal Kingdom Lodge For a squad looking for adventure, head to Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and order the Indian Bread Service. (If there are more than a couple of you, order more than one!) Not only can you enjoy freshly-prepared flatbreads (SPICY BUTTER NAAN!), but you’ll also get nine chutneys and dips. Trying new flavors and combining those sauces is part of the fun, and when you’re sharing this favorite appetizer with your Disney squad, there’s just nothing better. Bread Service at Sanaa! Read our most recent review of Sanaa here! Tapas — Jaleo, Disney Springs When Jaleo opened in March of 2019 in Disney Springs, it was pretty clear this is a great spot to bring your Disney squad. Tapas is the name of the game for many of the restaurant’s offerings, and because of that, sharing is caring. Order up a bunch of delicious small plates (and a plate of paella!), and dig into the Spanish-inspired eats. Our first look at Jaleo is here! Endivias con queso de cabra y naranjas Bubble Waffles — AristoCrepes, Disney Springs Another must in Disney Springs: Bubble Waffles. These fun and loaded treats are indulgent and delicious — plus there are two awesome flavors: salted caramel and strawberry! We recommend getting one (or two!) of each, finding a nice spot by the water, and chilling with your Disney squad. Salted Caramel Bubble Waffle But they can be a little tough to get your hands on. Click here to see when AristoCrepes is open and how to pop some Bubble Waffles in your mouth! Porterhouse for Two — Yachtsmen Steakhouse, Yacht Club Resort Want to splurge on some stunning steak? Grab your Disney squad and hit Yachtsmen Steakhouse. This restaurant specializes in steaks and those steakhouse sides. Get the Porterhouse for Two, and then go all in on the side dishes! Even if there’s more than two of you, this steak is share-able. (Plus, you know, more room for pull-apart onion rolls!) Porterhouse for Two! Read our most recent review of Yachtsmen Steakhouse here! Dim Sum and Sushi — Morimoto Asia, Disney Springs For an elegant and delicious lunch or dinner, make a reservation at Morimoto Asia. This gorgeous restaurant is helmed by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, and if you’re into dim sum and sushi, your squad’s gotta come here. Small plates include awesome eats like Kung Pao Chicken Dumplings, various bao, and Pork Egg Rolls. And because these are small plates, you and your squad can get one of each! Dim Sum from Morimoto Asia! Morimoto Asia also has an awesome Late Night menu, too — check it out here!
