  1. It’s Wednesday and our ongoing look at the all-new Disney Parks Wishables continues today with our latest adorable collection. As we teased on Monday, this week’s collection is inspired by “The Little Mermaid” attractions and experiences at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. You can now travel “under the sea” with Ariel and friends with this new Wishables collection. As you can see, along with Ariel, the new additions include Flounder, Ariel’s most trusted pal, the sensationally sinister Ursula, Sebastian the crab and Scuttle the seagull. Our new Ariel’s Undersea Adventure Disney Parks Wishables can be found right now at select merchandise locations, including World of Disney at the Downtown Disney District in California and Disney Springs in Florida, as well as shopDisney.com. If you’re a fan of the Little Mermaid, you can become part of Ariel’s world by visiting Prince Eric’s castle at Magic Kingdom Park. While at the castle, experience Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid and then venture into Ariel’s official greeting location. Also, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can enjoy Voyage of The Little Mermaid, and relive musical moments from the Disney classic at this live action and puppetry extravaganza. At Disneyland Resort, there are plenty of ways to experience the Little Mermaid. Check out our post here for more details! Keep sharing your Disney Parks Wishables in the parks and follow along using #Wishables #DisneyParksWishables and #DisneyParksWishablesWednesday. View the full article
  2. This summer, Epcot’s Japan pavilion will welcome a new signature restaurant: Takumi-Tei! Takumi-Tei ©Disney The new restaurant’s name and some initial details were announced a few weeks ago. But today brings more information on this upcoming dining experience thanks to a new page on the Disney World website. Though the restaurant’s page does not currently list a menu or the option to make Advance Dining Reservations, it does reveal a bit more about the setting which guests will be dining in. Takumi-Tei concept art ©Disney Or perhaps I should say “settings,” as the site reveals that guests will dine in one of 5 rooms inspired by naturals elements: water, wood, earth, stone or washi paper. The Chef’s Table, which will feature an exclusive menu, will be located in the Water Room, a space designed to “immerse diners in a tranquil setting that reflects the balance between nature and Japanese art.” It is also shared that “Every area will feature beautiful, handcrafted works of art honoring the element that brought it to life.” (As previously announced, Takumi-Tei is Japanese for “house of the artisan.”) Takumi-Tei Construction Japan’s beauty will be “featured both in its art and in its cuisine.” The page reminds that Takumi-Tei will offer “creatively prepared, Japanese-inspired dishes from a multicourse tasting menu, featuring a traditional Japanese tea service.” Takumi-Tei Construction Interested guests will want to note that Disney provides the Dress Code for guests, with the minimum dress code required and dressier attire welcome. The minimum dress code is as follows, according to the Disney World website: “Men must wear khakis, slacks or dress shorts and collared shirts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition. Sport coats are optional. Women must wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses or dress shorts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition. Not permitted are tank tops, flip-flops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.” Again, booking is not yet open for Takumi-Tei, and an opening date has not yet been announced. But we’ll be keeping you posted here! Are you hoping to dine at Takumi-Tei? Please let us know with a comment! Related posts: News! 6. Lunch Box Tarts have been a staple at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land since the counter service spot made its debut along with the opening of Toy Story Land last summer. Woody’s Lunch Box The filled pastries are typically on offer in Chocolate Hazelnut and Raspberry. But an all-new seasonal tart has just arrived on the scene: the Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart! Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart Currently, the Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart has replaced the Raspberry on the menu. It’s $4.29 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Woody’s Lunch Box Menu Like the other Lunch Box Tarts, this seasonal option boasts a nice, flaky golden pastry crust. Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart But this uniquely colorful tart (a perfect match for the Luxo Ball) delivers its own punch of lemon flavor which wonderfully balances out the sweet blueberry. Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart One doesn’t overpower the other, so you can enjoy both flavors, and it all comes together wonderfully! Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart Some extra details include the Luxo Ball made of white chocolate, and the smattering of candy crispies on top. Lemon-Blueberry Lunch Box Tart Other seasonal options for the Lunch Box Tarts have included a Cinnamon Cran-Apple Tart during the holiday season, but this new summer option may be the best one yet! 15. We have some new out-of-this-galaxy treats to tell you about in Disneyland Resort! White Water Snacks at Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel has introduced Star Wars Donuts AND a Darth Vader Cupcake! Star Wars Donut The Star Wars donuts are vanilla cake donuts with “berry swirl” frosting, some completely awesome iridescent chocolate rocks, and white chocolate pieces shaped like R2-D2 or an X-wing Starfighter. Star Wars Donut The texture of the donuts is nice and moist, just as we’ve come to expect from previously released donuts at White Water Snacks, and the berry frosting was not too strong. Star Wars Donut The chocolate rocks were a unique treat both on the side and with each bite. And the solid white chocolate pieces were super detailed and tasted okay! Star Wars Donuts The Darth Vader Cupcake is chocolate cake with an airy chocolate mousse style of icing. Darth Vader Cupcake The cupcake is topped with a milk chocolate piece shaped like Darth Vader’s mask. Chocolate sprinkles adorn the icing, while red and blue chocolate pieces behind Darth Vader’s head represent lightsabers. Darth Vader Cupcake The chocolate mousse was definitely the best part and the sprinkles were a great addition as well. Thankfully, the cake was not too dry! Darth Vader Cupcake Coinciding with the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, these bakery items became available at White Water Snacks on Friday, May 31. The donuts are $5.50 each before the Annual Pass discount and the cupcake is $7.00 before the AP discount. White Water Snacks Bakery Case Overall, we think these treats are enjoyable additions to the bakery case at White Water Snacks, and nicely commemorate the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! 17. The BoardWalk Bakery on Disney World’s BoardWalk has debuted a new cupcake in honor of Pride month! Rainbow Cupcake The Rainbow Cupcake positively pops with color from the pretty chocolate hearts accented with glitter to the sprinkles surrounding the base of the buttercream frosting to the chocolate discs forming Mickey ears on the top. Rainbow Cupcake The sweet vanilla buttercream and accent pieces top a vanilla cake base. Rainbow Cupcake But the base is unique in that it features a “strawberry soak” with a tropical fruit curd and chocolate pearl center inside. Rainbow Cupcake And that all equals up to a lot going on! The tropical curd filling is uniquely refreshing — so much so that we don’t think the filling particularly needs that extra touch of chocolate candy pearls. That strawberry soak really does lend a very pure strawberry taste and tang to the otherwise plain vanilla cake. Now, here’s the thing: the flavor was great, and we didn’t mind the “soak,” even though it caused our cake to topple due to some heft from the liquid. Rainbow Cupcake That said, we know that some might find the “wet cake” texture (or even the idea) off-putting, so if that includes you, we wanted you to know! The Rainbow Cupcake at BoardWalk Bakery is $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Would you like to try the Rainbow Cupcake? Please let us know with a comment! And when the server asks if you’d like to try the chocolate soufflé, be sure your answer is a resounding “yes!” Palo Chocolate Soufflé (Serves 6) Ingredients 3 tablespoons butter, plus more for greasing the soufflé cups 6 tablespoons sugar, plus more for dusting the soufflé cups 1 cup milk 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 3 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa 2 ounces (2/3 cup) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, melted 4 eggs, separated Vanilla Sauce (recipe follows) Directions Preheat oven to 350°F. Set a full kettle of water on to boil. Butter six 4-ounce soufflé cups and coat with sugar; set aside. Bring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and cocoa to the butter and beat with a whisk to a smooth, paste-like consistency. Reduce heat and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add the hot milk, whisking until smooth, then blend in melted chocolate. Let cool for 5 minutes, then stir in egg yolks. Beat egg whites in a separate bowl until frothy. Slowly add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until stiff, glossy peaks form. Stir a heaping spoonful of egg whites into the chocolate, then fold in the remaining whites just until combined. Pour the batter into prepared soufflé cups. Place cups in a large baking dish and add enough boiling water to reach halfway the sides of the soufflé cups. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve immediately, with warm vanilla sauce. Vanilla Sauce Ingredients 1 1/4 cups heavy cream 1/4 vanilla bean, split lengthwise 3 tablespoons sugar 2 small egg yolks Directions Bring cream and vanilla bean to a low boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Combine sugar and egg yolks. Add 2 spoonfuls of boiling cream to egg mixture and stir well, then pour back into the remaining cream and continue to cook over low heat, stirring constantly for 3 to 4 minutes. Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake The taste of the coffee is VERY prominent throughout the funnel cake, so be aware in case you don’t love a strong coffee flavor. Kids may not dig it as much as adults. (Which means more for the parents out there!) Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake You can grab one of these funnel cakes for yourself at Hungry Bear Restaurant for $7.99 before the Annual Passholder discount. When we were there, they did not have a placard or advertisement for it, so don’t forget to ask for it! The Cast Member we spoke to said it came out a week or so ago. Hungry Bear Restaurant This decadent snack item is definitely shareable and can be a bit messy, so grab plenty of napkins! When we cut into the funnel cake, a plume of steam escaped due to the heat of the cake mixed with the cold ice cream. Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake Overall, we loved the Coffee and Chocolate Funnel Cake. It had a crunchy and soft texture with strong flavors throughout. Definitely one of the best funnel cakes we’ve had! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! 25. The hot spot of Batuu, Oga’s Cantina, has opened with a bang in Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with long wait times to prove it! Oga’s Cantina According to The Orange County Register, the Cantina has implemented a system so guests can continue to explore Black Spire Outpost while holding their place in line. According to the article, the new text message return system “allows visitors to return later to a shorter ‘buffer queue’ with a wait time of approximately 15 minutes, Disneyland officials said.” Oga’s Cantina Guests provide their name, number, and the number of guests in their party at the Cantina, and receive a text when space becomes available inside Oga’s Cantina. As of press time, the original limits are still in place at Oga’s: 45 minutes to stay with a two-drink limit per guest. Fuzzy Tauntaun And it is still highly recommended that you make Oga’s your first stop, either to get in or to provide your name and number for a text alert, if it tops your list of Must Dos on Batuu. Oga’s Cantina The article also states that “Disneyland will continue to make adjustments to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as part of an ongoing effort to offer a ‘great guest experience,’ theme park officials said.” Oh, and those waits, by the way?
