It’s all in the name at Flame Tree Barbecue… at least, that’s how it seems at first. Flame Tree Barbecue You often smell the tempting fragrance of smoky barbecue on Discovery Island as it wafts from Flame Tree, drawing you in to enjoy some St. Louis Ribs, smoked chicken, or pulled pork (either in a sandwich or on top of some baked Mac and Cheese or French Fries!). But today, we’re talking about one of the non-BBQ items on the menu. In fact, we’re at Flame Tree for a sweet treat: the Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake. Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake The Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake ($5.99, or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit) has been considered a “seasonal” option. But this seasonal treat has been available for a few months now, and we figured it was high time to give it a try. Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake A vanilla cake base is topped with caramel buttercream, streusel crumbs, and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce, all topped off with a house-made apple chip. Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake The caramel buttercream, which is also packed with lots of cinnamon, is wonderfully flavorful. And the streusel crumbs lend some variety in the texture, along with a bit of buttery flavor. The vanilla cake base itself is filled with sweet apple pie filling Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake It’s a taste of fall in the middle of a hot summer’s day! Like I said, we figured it was finally time to try the Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake… and now I don’t know what took us so long. It’s one of the top Disney cupcakes out there, as it turns out! So, my advice? Don’t pass this one by the next time you’re passing through Discovery Island! Would you like to try the Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake? Please let us know with a comment! We have been on merchandise OVERLOAD lately with the release of new items like the Mickey bubble baton, the Imagination Pink collection, and the JUMBO Minnie bow. Disneyland Backpacks And today, we’re adding to the hefty new merch list with a few new and super fun backpack options. Now — before you ask — let’s clarify: these are NOT the same as the Loungefly backpacks we typically chat about — and they’re not going to require you to take out a second mortgage the way those Loungeflys (Loungeflies?) do! Instead, they’re just standard sized backpacks with really fun prints! REALLY. FUN. Srsly. Our favorite of these happens to be covered is Disney SNACKS! We’re talkin’ Dole Whip, Mickey premium bars, Mickey pretzels, donuts, churros…the works! Disney SNACK Backpack This backpack is simply a foodie’s dream. You can now show off your snack passion everywhere you go — Disney or otherwise. AND we can virtually guarantee you’ll have 50 people stop you to ask where you got it. (That may be a good or a bad thing, depending on your introvert tendencies.) Now, even if you don’t feel like wearing Mickey waffles on your back, that’s cool. There are plenty of other super cute themes to choose from. Mickey Backpack I love the crazy Mickey print on this one! Mickey Backpack Your little ones can both rock their favorite characters since one can get a Minnie backpack and another can get a Mickey backpack! Minnie Backpack Are you a Haunted Mansion lover like me? Then, you have to see the Mansion print backpack! It’s every hitchhiking ghost lover’s dream. (: Haunted Mansion Backpack Each of the backpacks are $29.99, so, a much cheaper alternative to the smaller Loungefly backpacks you’ll typically see throughout the parks, as we mentioned. These new styles can be found at Disney Clothiers as well as other merchandise shops throughout the park. We assume that they should be making their way to Disney World very soon. Let us know if you see them! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! Which print do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below! Disney merchandise has been super on trend lately, with new collections like the Imagination Pink and Magic Mirror Metallic popping up just last week. Disney-themed Headbands There have also been a lot of new, fun options like the JUMBO Minnie Bow and the Dooney & Bourke Cat Collection. But, these new Disney-inspired headbands really have us hooked. The headbands are a much more casual option when it comes to Disney headwear. These are perfect for a day in the park, heading to the gym, or relaxing at home. Disney-themed Headbands The headbands are inspired by Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie along with beloved Disney attractions like it’s a small world and Haunted Mansion. Disney-themed Headbands Along with these new headbands, we also noticed some super cute hair tie options ($9.99) that we thought were worth mentioning. Disneyland Annual Passholders should make a note to stop by AP Corner from June 20 to September 2, 2019 in Disney California Adventure to celebrate “The Lion King” and have a chance to purchase a unique musical sipper — the Ocarina Mug — while supplies last! Ocarina Mug ©Disney Walt Disney World guests may remember when this fun piece used to be available in Animal Kingdom. In addition to the beautiful design made to look like carvings, the Ocarina Mug boasts an Ocarina (wind flute) handle! Musical Tumbler You can see in Disney’s promotional photo that it looks like it will come with a music sheet. For reference, when the mug was sold in Animal Kingdom, it came with music sheet with instructions on how to play “it’s a small world” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”! Ocarina handle This thing is seriously fun, and you can check it out here. For AP Corner, the mug will be available only while supplies last. Other fun at AP Corner will include a Lion King-themed photo backdrop, and Passholders will also receive a Lion King-themed keepsake button (also while supplies last). Hey, food-lovin’ friends! If you know us, you know we are quite fond of Troubadour Tavern in Disneyland. We love stopping here to grab some delicious German food like a bratwurst sausage or stuffed potato. BBQ Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato Well, when stopping by on our most recent visit, we noticed a new-to-us menu addition that we got pretty excited about! The new BBQ Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato is somewhat akin to the bbq chicken stuffed potato that we saw a while back at Harbour Galley. We often find that these two locations switch menu items back and forth, so if you don’t find something previously on the menu at one location, you just might find it at the other. BBQ Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato The BBQ Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato ($8.49) is filled with BBQ chicken, butter, chipotle sour cream, and cilantro. BBQ Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato It’s got a great tangy yet mild BBQ sauce, plus a hint of smokiness from the chipotle mayo. We also enjoyed the size of the potato for the price, especially since the shredded chicken brings an added heartiness to the whole thing. Overall, we really enjoyed it! BBQ Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato You can use your Annual Passholder discount on this potato delight which will bring your spud’s price down to $7.78! And if you’re looking to grab a quick bite at this spot, make sure to check out our full Troubadour Tavern review. Do you have a favorite stuffed potato treat? Let us know in the comments below! Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar will celebrate its 4th anniversary this fall and it continues to be one of my favorite watering holes at Disney Springs. If you haven’t been, there’s never a bad time to visit. Walt Disney Imagineers did an incredible job creating this 1940s-era plane hangar filled with themed décor from ceiling to floor all based around fictional character, Jock Lindsey. Who is Jock Lindsey you ask? You’ll spot him in the film “Raiders of the Lost Ark” portrayed by Fred Sorenson who’s an actual airline pilot. Although Fred only appeared in the film for about a minute, his character inspired Imagineers to develop a whole lounge and menu dedicated to his global adventures with Indiana Jones. When I heard Fred was planning to spend his 70th birthday at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, I just had to meet the man who inspired one of my favorite spots at Disney Springs. I had the pleasure to chat with Fred this past weekend and ask him a few questions about his career and his thoughts on how the Imagineers captured his beloved character. Check it out! It’s been a while since you were in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but obviously, that was a huge part of your life. When you visit Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, does it bring you back to those days? “Yes! Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar represents the essence of what I’ve done and continue to do every day. I’m still an active pilot for a charter company and I also help deliver airplanes all over the world. That’s actually how I got the role of Jock Lindsey—I was helping the film crew look for a plane to use in movie and they also needed someone to help deliver and get it set up, then I was asked if I would be interested in portraying Jock Lindsey!” What’s your favorite item on the menu at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar? “That’s a tough one—I’d have to say the Reggie’s Revenge cocktail.” Walt Disney Imagineers are known for their storytelling and attention to detail. Do you think they got it right with Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar? “They nailed it! The fact that it looks like exactly like an old airplane hangar and it’s located right on the water where you can hear the water and boats, it’s just perfect.” Do fans still recognize you? If so, what’s that like? “Sometimes. My favorite interactions with fans sometimes happen by accident. We’ll be talking about Indiana Jones and then I mention something like “Well you know, I was Jock Lindsey…” and they say “You mean…”Jock start the engine?!” It’s amazing how many fans remember that small scene.” You’ve had a full career and travel has been a big part of your life. When you travel to Disney Springs, what’s your favorite go-to spot? “I actually love just watching those amphicars at The BOATHOUSE! I almost bought one.” Of all the places you could have picked to celebrate your birthday, you came here – why was this spot the right choice for you and your guests? “I wanted to pick a venue that reflected 70 years of my life and Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar truly represents everything I enjoy about my life and the career I’m so passionate about.” Anything else you’d want to share with readers of the Disney Parks Blog? “I appreciate the fans so much. Jock Lindsey represents the idea of adventure and dreams and being able to bring that to others and see their faces light up is simply amazing. I would tell readers to never stop dreaming and taking adventures in life—you’ll never know what will happen!” View the full article

The Italian-inspired Palo restaurant aboard each Disney ship, named after the colorful poles that line the canals of Venice, offers a superlative dining experience reserved exclusively for adults. When you dine here, you’re invited to indulge in a menu of delectable modern Italian cuisine, coupled with a sophisticated atmosphere and superior service. Of course the dining experience doesn’t end with the fine cuisine. Palo is also known for a robust menu of adult beverages, including inventive cocktails and classic reserve wines. The restaurant’s wine list, with 99 percent Italian wines, includes about 90 labels from all regions of Italy, including a sparkling Prosecco, a lush red Barolo made just for Palo, and some of the best Super Tuscans. One of my favorite beverages at Palo, especially paired with brunch, is the restaurant’s signature Balsamic Grande cocktail. The FastPass+ tiers at Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot can have a big effect on your overall Disney World park strategy. While Magic Kingdom doesn’t have tiers, we can only reserve an advanced FastPass+ for one top attraction at the other three parks. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Your FastPass+ strategy may be about to change even more at Hollywood Studios. According to Touring Plans, a large number of Hollywood Studios’ rides will move to Tier 1 when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on August 29. Based on a 90-day FastPass+ booking window (through a Club level perk), Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster AND Tower of Terror will join all three Toy Story Land attractions in Tier 1. ©Touring Plans What does this mean for you if this change is confirmed? Well, it means you’ll only get to make an advanced FastPass+ reservation for one of the attractions listed above. You’ll be able to use your other two reservations for Tier 2 attractions, such as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, or Voyage of the Little Mermaid. In May, Disney announced that select Disney World Resort hotels would soon begin to offer Mobile Order. The first of the new Resort hotel dining locations to go live on Mobile Order through the My Disney Experience app was Everything POP at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Contempo Café in Disney’s Contemporary Resort was the second. The Mara And now we can add The Mara to the list, as this counter service spot at Animal Kingdom Lodge is now live on Mobile Order! The Mara on Mobile Order As a refresher, Mobile Order is a feature available within the My Disney Experience app which allows guests to pre-order and pre-pay for their food at participating Counter Service Restaurants around Disney World. Upon arrival to the restaurant, guests using Mobile Order can then bypass the ordering queue and go straight to a designated Pick Up Counter to get their food. Tamarind Barbecue Pork Sandwich at The Mara At this time, The Mara is the last of the announced Resort counter service options added to Mobile Order. However, if the rollout at these latest additions goes well, it may lead to more Resort counter service options to be added to Mobile Order in the future. We’ll be on the lookout, and will continue to keep you posted! Are you excited that Mobile Order is expanding to Disney World Resort hotels? Please let us know with a comment! It has been announced that Lyft is now the official rideshare of Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. The partnership begins today, June 18th! Minnie Van For Disneyland, this news comes in anticipation of the heavy crowds expected when the reservation-only period at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comes to an end after its last day on June 23rd. Additionally, The Orange County Register shares that while taxis and other ride-share operators will still be able to pick up and drop off guests at Harbor Boulevard, they will not be able to use the areas designated for Lyft. “O.C. locals and tourists can say goodbye to the days of parking ‘far, far away’ to visit Disneyland and the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge,” Lyft said in a statement. Disneyland’s current parking lots and structures are a half mile or further from the Disneyland entrance, and parking rates increased by 25 percent in January. This certainly makes utilizing a ride-share service attractive to some guests. Disney has been working with Lyft since 2017 when the company began providing the Minnie Van service at Walt Disney World. The service has transported one million guests around Disney World property. And Disney also revealed that “Lyft and Disney will be enhancing the app experience at the Walt Disney World Resort. The update will make it easier to request a Minnie Van ride, find the most convenient pickup location, and even select a wheelchair accessible vehicle.” Sources: The Orange County Register and Disney Parks Blog Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! In exchange, the dessert was removed from the full Quick Service meal entitlement. I’m On The Disney Dining Plan! An even more significant change occurred for the 2018 Disney Dining Plans, when alcoholic beverages were included for of-age guests to both Quick Service and Table Service meal entitlements. Specialty drinks were also added for guests who are not of-age or choose not to imbibe. As in 2019, for 2020, all of the additions from the 2017 and 2018 remain with no significant changes (though, as per usual, there are pricing adjustments, which can be found on the individual Plan pages as linked above).
