While every family sailing aboard a Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise enjoys what we hope is an experience they’ll long remember for all the right reasons, the October 2019 Member Cruise voyage from New York City was particularly magical for the Duzmal family of Kentucky. “When we boarded the ship, a nice gentlemen approached us and said Disney Vacation Club had a gift for us,” Wesley Duzmal recalled. “We followed him to a nearby lounge, and we knew something was up as soon as we walked in and saw a bunch of Disney people gathered, including Terri Schultz (Senior Vice President, Disney Vacation Club, Guided Adventures & Expeditions and Golden Oak). Terri said, ‘We’d like to upgrade your room,’ and she flipped over a giant key revealing that, instead of the inside stateroom we’d booked, we’d be staying in the Roy O. Disney Suite!” This randomly selected family of four would have plenty of space to unwind in the two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom suite, complete with its own dining salon, wet bar and more. “It was truly incredible,” Wesley said. “The suite itself is gorgeous, of course, and the concierge crew was just awesome. Plus, when our kids weren’t in the teen club, they were taking full advantage of the free internet service that came with the suite!” Victoria Duzmal said the suite became a favorite gathering place as their kids made new friends in the ship’s teen club. “We got to know the parents of the friends our kids made in that club, and before long, our suite became the place for movie nights after the club would close for the day,” Victoria said. “One night, we even had to use the bunk beds as our kids hosted some of their new friends for a sleepover. They’re all still in touch today through a group text that started on the ship.” When they weren’t enjoying the luxuries of their suite, the Duzmals enjoyed everything the Member Cruise voyage had to offer, from the daily in-room gifts (“We had to find places to stuff stuff,” Wesley said) to the more than 30 unique shows and experiences created by Disney Vacation Club. “While it’s hard to single out just one favorite show, Matt Vogel was definitely a highlight for me,” Victoria said, referencing a standout show starring veteran Muppet Performer Matt Vogel, the man behind Kermit the Frog and numerous other beloved Muppets. “When Kermit sang ‘Rainbow Connection’ on stage, it felt like he was singing directly to me. It took me back to my childhood, and it was pretty emotional.” The Duzmals equally enjoyed seeing the presenters and performers off stage, which is part of the unique magic of a Member Cruise. “You try to respect the performers’ downtime, but I have to say, it was pretty cool to be able to mingle with them around the ship,” Wesley said. “That’s part of what makes this cruise so special. It begins to feel normal to just run into the voice of Kermit or Goofy or Mickey. And they’re all good, warm people – just as you’d expect from Disney.” Planning is now underway for the next Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise, an already sold-out voyage set to sail from Vancouver, B.C. to Alaska Aug. 24-31, 2020, as well as for the 2021 sailing to be announced in the months ahead. Chocolate Gems Brownie And, while we’ve already tried the Backlot Blondie and the Chocolate Gems Brownie in the parks, we’re heading to Disney Springs for another tasty treat! Girl Scout Cookie season is coming early thanks to the Coconut Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat is at Goofy’s Candy Co.! Coconut Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat The Rice Krispie is covered in coconut flakes and drizzled in chocolate just like a Samoa (major heart eyes!). The dessert is freshly baked, making it soft and sweet. While the coconut and milk chocolate are the most prominent, you can still taste the marshmallow from the Rice Krispie treat with every bite! Although it might be simple, the Coconut Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat is SO GOOD. Coconut, Chocolate, and Marshmallow Goodness! Even though you can get the pre-packaged Rice Krispies throughout the parks, few things beat a freshly baked Rice Krispie! If you do make your way to Goofey’s Cando Co., be sure to come early in the day since the Cast Members make a limited amount of Coconut Chocolate Rice Krispies. Or, you can always ask one of the bakers to make you a fresh one if they’re not out (aren’t the Cast Members the best?!). Happy Anaheim Ducks Day, Disney hockey fans! ©Disney That’s right! In recognition of this National Hockey League team’s rich history and its connection to Disney, California Adventure holds an Anaheim Ducks Day each year! And today’s the BIG day! To celebrate, we’re headed off to Schmoozies to taste the Anaheim Ducks Orange Shake! The Anaheim Ducks Orange Shake is a tasty treat of vanilla and orange sherbet and ice cream blended together with orange, pineapple, and guava juices. There’s also tons of delicious whipped cream and Anaheim Ducks-colored sprinkles garnishing the rim! Plus, there’s a white chocolate decoration to show off your Duck pride! Anaheim Ducks Orange Shake The pineapple flavor really comes through at first sip, and kinda reminds us of Dole Whip! But then the orange comes zooming in (in true Flying V formation!) followed by the more subtle notes of guava at the end. The vanilla ties all the flavors together nicely. Due to popular demand, Chicken Guy is GROWING in Disney Springs! Chicken Guy! The popular restaurant realized they needed more room to flap their wings, so they filed for a remodel permit last month. And since we told you we’d report back with any signs of renovations starting at the Guy Fieri-fronted hotspot, we can finally confirm that construction is underway! Chicken Guy has been a very popular counter-service spot with Disney World peeps since it opened in Disney Springs back in 2018! And since the spot tends to get pretty crowded, there’s been talk of expansion recently. In fact, a Chicken Guy spokesperson told us the remodel will be making space for more seating (which is MUCH needed!) and restrooms inside the restaurant! This is GREAT since we currently have to go across the “street” to use the restroom. Chicken Guy Construction And from the window coverings plastered, it looks like the project to expand Flavortown is finally happening! The expanded area is taking over the Planet Hollywood Gift Shop. Chicken Guy Construction Luckily, Chicken Guy will keep on cluckin’ during the construction and hasn’t announced any plans to close for the refurb — but we’ll keep you posted just in case anything changes! The Marina sundae has been around for some time, but its colors make it the perfect snack to share with your sweetie! The ingredients include raspberry sorbet, mixed with handmade dark chocolate hot fudge topped with whipped cream and a delicious Ghirardelli dark chocolate square! The Marina See? Didn’t we tell you it was romantic! Plus, Ghirardelli’s chocolate is one of our love languages, so if you’re anything like us, The Marina will definitely speak to you! The Marina And we’re ecstatic to report this sundae really IS a sweatheart! The raspberry sorbet balances out the richness of the dark chocolate hot fudge nicely and the creaminess of the whipped cream is ABSOLUTELY yummy! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge Now, with the help of everyone’s favorite starship, you can munch on your favorite park snack! That’s right, a new Millennium Falcon POPCORN BUCKET has appeared at Disneyland! But get this, you also have the option to fill this baby with FRIES! Millennium Falcon You can find this out-of-this-world popcorn bucket at popcorn stands in Tomorrowland, or via Mobile Order at Galactic Grill, which will come with a side of FRENCH FRIES, served separately! Comes with a side of fries if you Mobile Order at Galactic Grill! The only way to get it filled with fries is by Mobile Ordering it at Galactic Grill, btw. Otherwise, check them out at the popcorn stands! But of course, that means it will be filled with popcorn like most popcorn buckets. Millennium Falcon Bucket This is one of those popcorn buckets that you have to see to believe! Jolly Holiday Bakery Join us for a magical journey throughout the Disneyland parks, Downtown Disney, and the Disneyland Resort hotels to see what new construction, food, and merchandise we can spot! So much has happened since our last visit, so let’s jump right in! Construction Update at Disneyland Resort Tomorrowland Disneyland’s Tomorrowland is looking ultra-futuristic these days with its new mural! You’ll see it over by the Star Tours building! Tomorrowland is also getting a new entryway soon which will feature a widened walkway, some more “Space Age” spires, and colorful planters too! New Mural Find out more about Tomorrowland’s mural here! Over at Disney California Adventure, we checked in on the progress of the new Avengers Campus. It looks like construction is still well underway on the new Marvel-themed land which isn’t slated to open until sometime in 2021! Over at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa we saw a coming soon sign for the new Tenaya Stone Spa! This new spa is set to open Spring 2020! The brownie versus blondie debate is one that may never be solved. Backlot Express But why pick sides! Sure, we love a classic brownie just like the next team of food-based bloggers, but we also seriously love a good blondie. This is why we were ecstatic when we found a new Backlot Blondie at Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios. The Backlot Blondie is seriously gorgeous. Backlot Blondie Menu I mean look at that little dollop of icing on top! Our one complaint is that they didn’t put another chocolate circle on the other side so it looked like Mickey ears. Seriously, we’re one little piece of chocolate away from a Mickey, why can’t we have it?? Otherwise, this treat is really pretty. Backlot Blondie This stunner is described as a Classic Blondie with Coconut, English Toffee, and Chocolate. Well, those are a few of our favorite things! In terms of size, this is NOT a small dessert. No way! This thing has got some serious heft to it, which is good news because can you really have enough blondie? Now it’s definitely a single portion but it’s not too small to share if you wanted to. But enough about the looks, let’s get to the taste! Backlot Blondie Gosh, this thing is good. Like soooooo good. It’s got a great balance of coconut, so you can definitely taste it but it isn’t overpowering. The coconut is shaved, but don’t worry, even if you’re weird about the texture of coconut, we thought that the texture was lost in the rest of the treat. Backlot Blondie The blondie is super soft on the inside with a crunchy-ish outside, which we enjoyed. And it’s sweet with just the right amount of toffee and chocolate flavors. TOO GOOD!! Lunar New Year is almost here! And 2020 is the year of the rat…or the mouse in Mickey’s case. While the Lunar New Year celebrations officially kick off at Disney California Adventure on January 17th, collections like Adidas, Gucci, and now Columbia have been releasing all kinds of Mickey Mouse-inspired merch. ©Disney Mickey and Minnie at Disney California Adventure’s Lunar New Year Event That’s right, DFB friends! Disney has teamed up with outdoor apparel company Columbia to create a special edition collection of clothing and accessories, inspired by none other than Mickey Mouse! And after seeing this collection, I have decided that the year of the rat is going to make me go broke… Everything is so stinkin’ cute! The collection was designed by Disney Director of Character Art Jeff Shelly, who stated, “I wanted to capture the wonder of exploration in nature.” Adult Collection © Columbia The collection includes pieces for both kids and adults, so the whole family can gear up before heading on their next adventure! A brand new snack has sailed on into Echo Lake, so wave at Gertie on your way to grab it! Dockside Diner We’re gettin’ our golden age of cinema feels on today in Hollywood Studios! Of course, all that glitz and glamor can get pretty exhausting so we swung by Dockside Diner to fuel up with the new Chocolate Gems Brownie! We’re always excited for new snacks, so we just had to order the Chocolate Gems Brownie when we saw the sign at the counter. Chocolate Gems Brownie It’s described as a Double-Chocolate Brownie topped with Chocolate Gems. Um….yum! Sign us up! Chocolate Gems Brownie Well, it turns out that “Chocolate Gems” are actually just Mini M&Ms which sound less fun but are still pretty tasty! Chocolate Gems Brownie It’s definitely chocolatey with the brownie, fudge, and M&M’s, so this we think this will be a great choice for chocolate-lovers! While there’s nothing too special about it, we do think that it’s a nice sized snack option for those looking for a quick and sweet bite! Puerto Rican actress, model, and reina de belleza, Dayanara Torres, recently visited Disneyland park and, for the first time, had the opportunity to explore at the Resistance encampment Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! While navigating Black Spire Outpost, Dayanara encountered Rey in front of the A-wing starfighter at the Resistance encampment and then posed in front of the Millennium Falcon before taking the controls of the fastest ship en la galaxia in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. This IS the droid we’ve been looking for! Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge at Night After weeks of speculation and testing, we’re excited to finally see a familiar face join the characters of Galaxy’s Edge! According to OCR, a free-roaming R2-D2 has been spotted at Disneyland! He has been seen rolling around near the entrance to Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, occasionally ‘posing’ for pictures with guests. Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG Before Galaxy’s Edge opened, Disney has shared that there would be free-roaming droids in Galaxy’s Edge. But when the park opened all that existed was a more stationary R2-D2, which was available for purchase for $25,000 inside of Droid Depot. R2-D2 But, our excitement grew that free-roaming droids may be joining the Galaxy’s Edge scene when Disney started conducting “play tests” a few weeks ago. And now it seems as if R2-D2 will be roaming around the planet of Batuu for good! At least we hope! This exciting new feature of Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland has happened just in time for the opening of Rise of the Resistance, which will officially open on January 17th. Rise of the Resistance in Disney World Could this mean more free-roaming droids in the future? Will R2-D2 or maybe even BB-8 be roaming around Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge soon? We’ll see! Oh, plastic cheese, how we love you. Dipping French Fry in Plastic Cheese! Look, we’re not kidding around when it comes to our cheese, and warm, gooey plastic cheese is definitely a DFB favorite. We’ll dip anything in plastic cheese (hello, Corn Dog Nuggets at Casey’s Corner). So you can imagine our sheer delight when we spotted a new cheese sauce option at Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios. That’s right YOU CAN GET PLASTIC CHEESE WITH YOUR FRENCH FRIES. We can’t stop freaking out honestly. We were strolling around Hollywood Studios when we noticed the most beautiful sign we’ve ever seen sitting near the register at Backlot Express. Cheese Sign You can now add cheese sauce to your fries for $1! That’s right $1!!! Don’t mind if we do! We confirmed with a Cast Member that the sauce is served warm in a ramekin (warm cheese sauce is our favorite) instead of prepackaged like when you get it with a pretzel. Cheese Fries While we’re not entirely sure if this was always available as an add-on at this spot but not advertised, it’s most definitely an option they’re now sharing with everyone! Basically, we’re gonna be hanging out at Backlot Express a lot more now. But, hey, that’s what happens when you give us the option for plastic cheese! Can’t get enough cheese?
