This is the attraction they’re looking for. One month ago today, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the response has been amazing. Thousands upon thousands of guests continue to pour into the park each day to be among the first to experience the groundbreaking new attraction, which is also about to open at Disneyland park in California on Jan. 17, 2020. If you’ve felt a tremor in the Force this past month, that’s probably the excitement building around Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance as details began to emerge about the awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping experience that awaits you. I’ll quote the one and only Han Solo to tell you this: All of it … it’s all true. In one of the longest attraction experiences in Disney history, you become a new Resistance recruit and are sent by Rey to a secret rendezvous point to meet General Leia Organa so you can aid her cause in freeing the galaxy from the tyrannical First Order. After hustling into an Intersystem Transport Ship, you blast off Batuu with Poe Dameron as your wingman in his signature black-painted X-wing starfighter. Oh, but that bad feeling you’ve got … yeah, that’s true, too. Before you know it, a First Order Star Destroyer is right on top of you and pulls your ship into its massive hangar bay via tractor beam. From that point on, your mission is to escape the clutches of the First Order before Supreme Leader Kylo Ren can catch you and rip General Organa’s hidden location from your mind. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is immersive storytelling on a cinematic scale – this attraction truly feels as if you’ve stepped right into a Star Wars film. You’ll see a docked TIE fighter, dodge two AT-AT walkers, scurry past huge turbolaser cannons and dodge blaster fire from First Order Stormtroopers as you search for a way off the Star Destroyer aboard special troop transports. It’s an all-encompassing journey, and I love watching guests’ reactions – I’ve seen everything from tears of joy to uproarious cheers to stunned amazement. I’ve felt all those emotions, too, when I experienced it. Because the Force is strong with this one. View the full article

You know those great boozy drinks that don’t even taste like alcohol? Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Well, we’ve got a treat for you, friends! Disney California Adventure is giving us MAJOR nostalgia with the newest alcoholic drink coming to the park! You can relive your childhood as a grown-up with the Hard Float at Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream! Hard Float Sign You can customize your float with your choice of either a vanilla or chocolate ice cream bar in hard root beer, hard orange soda, or Guinness beer. While all the options sounded great to us, we took it back to the basics with a hard root beer float with a vanilla ice cream bar. (And, it was SO GOOD.) Hard Root Beer and Vanilla Ice Cream Bar The root beer itself didn’t taste like alcohol at all, so the buzz sneaks up on you. The ice cream bar doesn’t melt too fast or take up a lot of space since it’s pressed against the rim of the cup. We loved this idea because the creaminess of the ice cream dissolves more slowly into the root beer, balancing each sip. Hard Float Buuut, you can also pull the ice cream bar away to take a bite straight after a sip of the root beer! This makes each sip a lil bit thicker, which reminds us of a regular ole’ Root Beer Float! Since the Hard Float doesn’t have a strong alcoholic taste, it would be great for guests who like something on the sweeter side! Hard Float You can get your own customized Hard Float for $11.50 (and, boy, is it worth it!). Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! Hey everyone, we’ve got some big news today! Receive a FREE dining plan for ALL kids (ages 3 to 9) in your hotel room when you buy a non-discounted Magic Your Way package for you and your child (or children)! Magic Your Way packages include a room at a select Disney Resort, theme park tickets, and ANY level of Disney Dining Plan. Yep, that means that your kids eat FREE when you buy the dining plan during these booking dates. Here are the specifics you need to know before you book… Dates of Travel and Booking Deadline Free Dining for Kids is being offered to guests ARRIVING on most nights May 25 through August 28, 2020. But you must book by February 26, 2020, to get the offer. When you book a Magic Your Way package with non-discounted hotel, tickets, and Dining Plan, kids ages 3-9 will get the Dining Plan for FREE. Length of Stay Requirement Disney quotes a 4-day, 4-night stay in their promotional materials, but — remember, that’s just a marketing trap. We were able to successfully book a 2-night AND a 3-night stay when doing our research (we were not able to book a 1-night stay), so the true minimum requirement is 2 nights for this offer. Participating Resorts Offer is only available at participating Disney World Resort Hotels. Right now, you should be able to book this offer at most Disney World hotels (with the exception of a few room types). But be sure to book your preferred resort hotel quickly so you don’t miss out. You can always change or cancel your reservation at a later date. Cars Building at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Further Details Available rooms are limited, and savings are based on a non-discounted price for the same package. As noted above, every guest in the same room must be on the same package, and children on the package must stay in the same room as the adults. Theme park tickets are valid for admission beginning date of check-in and must be used within a limited number of days, depending on length of stay and date-based ticket. And remember that some Table Service restaurants may have limited or no availability when the package is purchased. You can see more details on this offer here. Want MORE Free Dining?? Remember, Disney World has JUST announced a more expansive Free Dining offer as well! This offer includes a Free Dining Package to everyone in the room, including adults! While Baby Yoda might love frogs, we love sipping on a great drink in Disneyland! Baby Yoda Forever ©Disney And, we’re about to put on our Baby Yoda Spirit Jersey ’cause there’s a NEW The Mandalorian inspired drink at the Disneyland Hotel! Thanks to our sweet friends over at @disneylandfoodies, we were told that “The Bounty” has blasted into Trader Sam’s, and it is ADORABLE! The Bounty The green-colored drink comes with two edible cherry “eyes” on a skewer, two lime wedges for “ears,” and a little napkin tie at the bottom to represent Baby Yoda’s outfit. The Bounty And, just like we think Baby Yoda is sweet, so is this drink!! If you like melon balls as much as we do, The Bounty is a sugary and slightly tart cocktail you don’t want to miss out on. Plus, it would look GREAT in your Insta photos! If you’re ready to order this little guy, remember that it’s not on the menu. You’ll have to ask the bartenders if they’re willing to put one together for you. And also, they’re not technically allowed to call it Baby Yoda, so they refer to it as The Bounty, The Child, or The Deed. Thanks again to @disneylandfoodies! There’s something sweet and almost kind (but a WAY more on the sweet side!) about one of our FAVORITE Disney cupcakes making a reappearance in Disneyland! (Imagine us doing happy dances, backflips, high kicks, etc!) Hello, Belle! And, the best part is that you won’t need any magic mirrors or enchanted roses to try this Beauty and the Beast inspired treat! The Belle Cupcake has waltzed into the Candy Palace looking as rose-y as ever! Candy Palace Bakery Case This simple cupcake is the stuff of our baked good dreams. A couple of years back, it showed up in Disney World and Disneyland and we fell. in. LOVE. Seriously, we’re not sure what about this stole our hearts but it just did. This simple little cupcake took us to cupcake utopia and we’ve been lusting for it ever since. AND NOW IT’S BACK! Belle Cupcake This vanilla cake is topped with buttercream, a rim of yellow sprinkles (instead of white, like its predecessor!), and a red rose icing design (it looks so beautiful!!). Candy Palace cupcakes usually have a texture similar to pound cake, which we LOVE. And, the Belle Cupcake definitely delivers a moist, dense (and delicious) cake. The buttercream on top is smooth and creamy, balancing the amount of cake. Belle Cupcake The yellow sprinkles add a crunchy last touch to the treat, reminding us of a final dance before the night is over! While the Belle Cupcake’s flavors are pretty simple, it’s SO VERY tasty and perfect for the Beauty and the Beast fans visiting the parks! And us…because it’s back and now our lives are truly complete! Red Rose Design You can twirl around Disneyland with the Belle Cupcake for $5.99 before the Annual Passholder discount. Go now. Right now. We’ll wait (bring one more back for us!!). Check out our original review of this amazing cupcake HERE! Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! The Epcot transformation is in full swing. And, while we’ll have to wait a while longer to see the changes finished, we’ve already spotted LOTS of progress! Transformation of Epcot ©Disney Although we’ve said goodbye to old favorites (you’ll be missed, Fountain of Nations) we’re excited to say hellooo to places where we can make new memories with our favorite characters! We gave you the details on the popular character meet-and-greets being re-located again to make room for the construction on the reimagined Future World. Character Spot Construction As of January 5th, the temporary Epcot Character Spot in Innoventions West has officially closed. We’ll miss the original Character Spot since it was a way to meet the big three — Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy — with one FastPass or one single line. Epcot Character Spot sign Buuuut, that doesn’t mean we have to bid adieu to our favorite characters! We’ve got the scoop on everywhere you can find your Disney pals (and we’re excited for these cute photo-ops!!). Epcot Times Guide Mickey Mouse is now meeting in the Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival in the Imagination! Pavilion (we can almost hear the Steamboat Willie whistle now). Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival While you can look at Mickey’s best moments in film history… Mickey Film Strips …you can follow them all the way over to Mickey’s new character spot! Mickey Character Spot The blue, starry curtain reminds us of Mickey’s sorcerer hat (which just happens to be one of our favorite looks on him)! Mickey Character Spot But, Mickey is actually wearing his traditional outfit for photo-ops (and looks very snazzy in it). Mickey Mouse Let’s give a round of applause for the mouse that started it all! Hiya, Mickey! We’re jumping for joy ’cause Joy has made her way inside ImageWorks across from Ralph and Vanellope! She enters through the WiFi Link from Ralph Breaks the Internet… Joy Is in the House!! …and makes her way over to Imagination Land! Imagination Land Photo-Op The adorable photo-op is full of bright colors… Joy Character Spot …and doodles that remind us of Inside Out‘s creativity! Joy Character Spot Minnie Mouse is now twirling around at the World Showcase Gazebo! This is where Daisy Duck previously met. World Showcase Gazebo You can meet her while she wears her classic polka dot red dress and bow to greet guests… Minnie’s New Character Spot …and pose for the camera! Work it, Minnie!! We’re hoping this isn’t a forever change and we will let you know when and if those little cuties pop up around Epcot again. Epcot’s exciting transformation is officially in progress! Epcot As part of the ongoing construction that will reimagine Future World, some fan favorites are facing some inevitable changes. Mouse Gear has always been THE spot to go to in Epcot for their extensive collection of Disney merchandise. It’s the largest gift shop in the entire park! MouseGear Sadly, the doors here have closed for a lengthy refurbishment. Original MouseGear sign The windows of the former Mouse Gear are covered up in plastic so we won’t get a peak just yet of the magic they are working on inside! While the OG Mouse Gear may be closed up, fret not! If you’re looking to grab some ears, spirit jerseys, keychains, and more, a temporary location has been set up just across the breezeway inside Innoventions East (over on the side closest to Test Track and Mission: SPACE, if you need your bearings), also the former home of Colortopia. Let’s take a peek! Temporary MouseGear We’re tickled to see that the “Head Gear” sign has made its way to this location. Head Gear No longer an immense sea of Disney swag that the original location was, the temporary shop is about half the size of its former self. Temporary MouseGear The temporary home lacks the overall theming of the former, but we’re happy to say we’re impressed with the sheer volume of merchandise still available! Temporary MouseGear A ton of 2020 merch is available for purchase… Temporary MouseGear …as well as ALL THE CANDY. There’s an abundance of Goofy’s Candy Company snacks available. Temporary MouseGear The large t-shirt collection also made the move. Temporary MouseGear Life isn’t all that ruff here! We’ve found many of our recent favorite collections as well. We have a feeling guests will be pretty satisfied with this temporary location, and we can’t WAIT to see what the new Mouse Gear looks like! We’re hoping for a classic Epcot retro look! Temporary MouseGear The temporary Mouse Gear is now open in Innoventions East and while we don’t know a current timeline, we will keep you in the know! Have you shopped at MouseGear in Epcot? With the opening of Rise of the Resistance, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is officially complete in Disney World! And in just a few weeks, Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance will open! Rise of the Resistance If you’re looking to make the trek out to Black Spire Outpost to see what all the hubbub is with this Rise of the Resistance business, you’re gonna want to blend in with the locals, right? Not to worry — we’ve got you covered! We’re sharing some pro tips to help you assimilate in Black Spire Outpost! You’ve packed a bag full of snacks and your Jedi Disney-bound outfit, and you’re boarding a starship for Planet Batuu (err…or or was it a Disney Bus?). But as with any inter-galactic travel adventure, you’re likely wondering how to blend in with the “locals” once you arrive in Black Spire Outpost. Will you know what to say when you’re greeted with “Bright suns!”? Are you fluent in Aurebesh enough to find your way around? What does Ronto meat REALLY taste like? Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Disney World What’s Aurebesh, and how do I read it? Aurebesh is the language of the Star Wars universe, and you’ll see it in print on buildings, signs, labels, and more in Black Spire Outpost. Even menus like this one at Milk Stand are partially written in Aurebesh in Galaxy’s Edge. Milk Stand Menu We admit this was a little confusing when we first stepped foot on Batuu. There were times, before we were familiar with the layout of and landmarks in the land, that the dearth of translations was confounding. But we soon discovered that this detail is central to the intention of immersing guests in a whole new world. You’ve arrived at Droid Depot, in case you couldn’t tell. Heads up though, with the Aurebesh everywhere, you won’t find clear names and signs around Batuu. Everything is purposefully lacking clear signage. This aids in the theming of the land but also can make it really tricky if you’re rushing for the bathroom or late for that Oga’s reservation and have no clue where to go! (Note that there ARE signs in English but the font is intentionally wonky to make it blend in. If you don’t know where to look, you can miss it!) Can You Tell This is the Bathrooms? Likewise the use of Black Spire Outpost-specific phrases also immerses Earthy visitors in the oral culture of the land, with common phrases like “‘Til the Spire” and “For the Order” being bandied about by the citizens of Batuu. If you want to know what to expect, check out this DFB-exclusive Guide to Speaking on Batuu! Guide to Speaking Batuu Do I need a Datapad in Black Spire Outpost? You may have heard that your smartphone’s Play Disney Parks app will transform your device into a Datapad when you enter the Outpost. And the short answer as to whether you need to have the app (and thus the Datapad) is NO — but it’s fun if you do! Use your Play Disney Parks Datapad to translate your card! For starters, the Datapad allows you to translate all of the Aurebesh in the land, so if you don’t have time to memorize the alphabet before you blast off (er, we mean arrive at the Park), you won’t be lost! Simply open your Datapad (cough cough…the Play Disney Parks app, that is), and use it to translate the words you see around you. Additionally, your Datapad can capture and translate transmissions in Black Spire Outpost and allows you to hack certain elements in the land. Hacking Tool So while you certainly don’t need to get the app and use your Datapad in the land, if you’ve got time to play with it, it’s a lot of fun. How will I find my way around Black Spire Outpost? Good news: there are a few different ways to access maps of Black Spire Outpost. (Even though this village is a haven for those who want to… disappear… in the galaxy, they sure aren’t keeping their hideouts a secret…) Disneyland.com and DisneyWorld.com have both added Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to their online maps. The maps have also been added in the My Disney Experience and the Disneyland Mobile App. (Remember that if you’re using the app ‘on-world’, you can even get walking directions to various locations in the land, so no more wondering where the nearest bathroom is!) My Disney Experience Screenshot The Play Disney Parks maps — though quite cartoon-y — also include Galaxy’s Edge. Disney World Play Disney Parks App Map And, of course, you’ll still be able to pick up a Guide Map when you enter the Parks (and just about everywhere else in Disneyland Park or Disney’s Hollywood Studios!), so if you like a paper map to hold onto (and keep as a souvenir!), definitely pick up one of those, too! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland Guide Map At present, Disneyland Park is operating with three entrances to Galaxy’s Edge (Fantasyland, Frontierland, and Critter Country). Disney World has 2 entrances: at Grand Avenue near BaseLine Taphouse and through Toy Story Land. You’ll want to note these locations and have a plan for navigating the parks if your plan is to head directly to Black Spire Outpost. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World How will I meet characters in Black Spire Outpost? Character meet and greets in Black Spire Outpost are much more organic than is typical in the Disney Parks these days. Rather than having static meet locations, icons like Chewbacca, Rey, Stormtroopers, and Kylo Ren wander the land (in their respective sections: First Order or Resistance) as they would naturally wander the village in the Star Wars universe. Rey in the Rebel-held part of Galaxy’s Edge The characters will still have a ‘handler’ nearby, and you can still ask for a pic with your favorites, so no worries there. You’re just unlikely to find any sort of formal queue or structure designed solely for the meet. The point is that these characters are going about their everyday lives — and you’ve stumbled upon them in their natural environments. Chewbacca If you approach a character and they don’t stop, don’t be discouraged (especially smaller kiddos in your group!) — these characters just going about their day. Give it a few minutes and you’ll likely spot someone else! What should I wear on Planet Batuu? This one’s a little tricky. Since Planet Batuu is still technically Southern California or Central Florida, you’ll want to be cognizant of any climate or weather issues. But if you’re looking to Disney Bound (i.e. using regular clothes in a way that evokes a character or film), Disney has established some (kinda confusing) rules. In fact, fewer than two weeks after Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disneyland Park, Disney released a guide to dressing the part in Black Spire Outpost without breaking the “no costumes” rule that Disney has for adults. Permitted Attire ©Disney While the permitted clothing items include dresses designed to resemble characters and lots of belted shirts and vests, the excluded attire includes actual costumes (yes, even those available for purchase IN Black Spire Outpost!) and anything that looks too costume-y. Even those Jedi Robes available throughout Batuu are unfortunately a no-no. NOT Permitted Attire ©Disney We think some of the permitted examples look really similar to styles worn by citizens of Batuu, so clearly there’s still a little gray area… Click here to read about Disney’s clothing restrictions in Black Spire Outpost! What do I eat if I want to nosh like a Batuuan? Black Spire Outpost has several counter service-style eateries and a bar for those citizens of Batuu who choose to dine out rather than cook at home. As a visitor to the land, you’ll want to sample all the culinary (and drinkable) options! The main restaurant is Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo, a counter-service spot that offers up surprising flavor combinations and intergalactic interpretations on comfort food like chicken tenders, ribs, and mashed potatoes. Check out our full review of Disneyland’s Docking Bay here, and our focus on the quick-service restaurant’s breakfast items here! And when you’re making lunch or dinner selections, our favorites include the Fried Endorian Chicken Tip Yip, Batuuan Beef Pot Roast, or the Smoked Kaduu Pork Ribs. Batuuan Beef Pot Roast at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Check out our full review of Docking Bay 7 HERE! Nearby, Ronto Roasters is a counter-service spot with a focus on delicious roasted Ronto meat — known in Earthling terms as pork. The specialty of the house is the Ronto Wrap, with a thick pita stuffed with roast sliced pork, roasted pork sausage, tangy slaw, and a creamy peppercorn sauce. Ronto Wrap A plant-based wrap, a breakfast wrap, and even a chicken wrap are also now available on the menu. All of the wraps, especially the original Ronto Wrap, are delicious and we highly recommend picking one up! See how Ronto Roasters does breakfast here and how they keep the pit spinning with all-day eats here! The next food stop is Kat Saka’s Kettle, where you can pick up some out of this world popcorn. The Outpost Mix is the star here. This mix of sweet and spicy flavored popcorn is…unique. It’s kind of like sweet Fruity Pebbles cereal mixed with hot red chili. It wasn’t really our thing, but thankfully they recently introduced a more tame offering with Galaxy Green Popcorn. It’s your standard Disney popcorn, only green colored! Outpost Mix Check out what we thought of Outpost Mix here! As for how to stay hydrated? There are a few unique options in Black Spire Outpost. Oga’s Cantina is a popular watering hole serving up creative drinks on tap (most of them very sweet), a couple of menu items for breakfast, and lots of Batuuan charm. This place is a total party! Stop in (be sure to make a reservation!) and have a drink while you rock out to the boppin’ tunes courtesy of DJ R-3X (or as many of you OG Star Tours fans may better know him, your old StarSpeeder pilot, RX-24!). Rainbow of Drinks at the Cantina This spot has so much detail to check out and the drinks are fun and surprising! Check out our full review of Oga’s Cantina here! What would a trip to Galaxy’s Edge be without that infamous milk? The Milk Stand pours out Blue Milk and Green Milk in soft-frozen form. Both of these iconic drinks are rice and coconut milk-based. Blue Milk is a mix of fruits, while Green Milk is a slightly floral citrus. We found both to be relatively bland, but we think Star Wars fans will still be into them. In Disney World’s Black Spire Outpost, the Milks can also come boozy as Coolers. Milk Stand Coolers in Disney World When in Batuu, ya gotta say you tried the milk at least once, right? See what we thought of the Blue and Green Milks here! Can I shop ’til I drop in Galaxy’s Edge? Shopping in Galaxy’s Edge is a lot like the land itself: familiar but also not. There are several shops in Black Spire Outpost, with the bulk of them situated in the Marketplace area of the land (adjacent to the Resistance section). These shops are small and open, with no storefronts to speak of. Toydarian Toymaker sells ‘hand-made’ toys of all kinds, including plush, figures, and small games. Toydarian Toymaker Jewels of Bith and Black Spire Outfitters are additional Marketplace shops, and they offer up clothing and collectibles straight outta Planet Batuu. First Order Cargo is located (where else?) in the First Order region of Black Spire Outpost. Here you’ll find what you need to join the Order. And over in the rebel-held section of Galaxy’s Edge, you can join forces at Resistance Supply. Resistance Supply And don’t forget, you can build your very own BB-series or R-series droid at Droid Depot (see how here!), and you can channel the Force with your own custom-built lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop — Handbuilt Lightsabers. (We walk you through the Savi’s ceremony here!) Savi’s Workshop — Handbuilt Lightsabers But watch out if you carry a lightsaber around with you on Batuu — you might be questioned by Stormtroopers. Nothing to see here, just an unusually long flashlight, right? Right. Follow along with us as we build our very own Droid here! Can I do it all in Galaxy’s Edge? With all there is to see and do in Batuu, you need to figure out your priorities. Wanna ride all the rides? Is a trip to Oga’s a must-do for you? Maybe you’re destined to build your own lightsaber. As far as the rides, with the opening of Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, virtual boarding groups have been opened up each morning for guests hoping to ride. So if tackling the flagship ride in Galaxy’s Edge is on your list, plan to get up EARLY and head for the parks — there’s currently no FastPass OR standby line. If you wanna ride, you gotta have a boarding group and they fill up FAST. Learn more about how to get a boarding group HERE! You can jump in line for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, on the other hand, any time of the day. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World For food, the only spot requiring a reservation is Oga’s Cantina. Reservations in Disney World can be made 180 days out, like other dining reservations. In Disneyland, reservations can be made 60 days out. Note that most Cast Members won’t even let you in to peek inside without a reservation, so if you’re itching to check it out, get that rezzie! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge If a lightsaber is what your after, be sure to make an advance reservation 180 days out for Savi’s Workshop. Like Oga’s, guests aren’t permitted inside unless they have a reservation. Since groups are limited to 14 guests per session, these spots can fill up quickly! Note that while advance reservations are recommended, this isn’t that difficult to get a same-day reservation for though. If it’s a must-do for you, you may want to book ahead to be sure. Select your Kyber Crystal And now you’re ready to carve out a space of your own in Black Spire Outpost, fortified with language skills, high-tech tools, a full stomach, and a plan! Have a wonderful trip to Planet Batuu, and may the Spires keep you. Will you jump into your experience in Galaxy’s Edge or just pass through? Let us know in the comments! That’s right friends, we headed back to Planet Hollywood Observatory for a night of dinner, drinks, and random movie memorabilia! Planet Hollywood Observatory Some of you might remember that our first trip to the reimagined restaurant was…less than amazing. In fact, pretty underwhelming! You can read the whole review here. But we always enjoy heading back to restaurants time and time again to re-review and see if anything has changed. Atmosphere We’re going to go pretty light on the atmosphere description here because we KNOW you’re really excited to see what we thought of the food this time! In our previous post, we’ve got lots and lots of photos to check out if you’re curious about the inside of the restaurant, which is three stories tall and features this GIANT 4500 ft. screen! Screen One thing that is always a treat, however, is looking at the movie memorabilia. Like the actual dress Judy Garland wore as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz! Dorothy Dress Or one of the R2-D2 droids used in Star Wars! R2D2 When we asked our server if they had anything from one of our favorite films, Titanic, he showed us to this masterpiece — it’s the wooden door Rose floats on after the ship sinks! Which now that we’ve seen it in person, we can confirm that Jack TOTALLY could have fit on too. But we digress… Door from Titanic One of the quintessential parts of dining at a Planet Hollywood is being surrounded by movie memorabilia, so make sure you take a stroll and look through the display cases. And if you have a favorite movie, make sure to ask a server if they have a prop for you to see! Eats Now onto what you’ve all been waiting for…the food! Well really, the drinks, because that’s what we started off with. Planet Hollywood has an extensive drink menu, with signature cocktails, wine, and beer. Their outdoor bar Stargazer’s also has a unique list of over 15 Florida Craft Beers, but you can only get them outside. (Odd?) We decided to try a few of the signature cocktails that we hadn’t before — the Luck of the Irish Mule and the It’s Showtime Mojito. The Luck of the Irish Mule is a twist on a classic Moscow Mule, but instead of vodka, it features Jameson Irish Whiskey along with the ginger beer and lime juice. It’s a good cocktail overall, and you can really taste the ginger beer. Irish Mule The It’s Showtime Mojito is Bacardi Superior rum, fresh lime juice and Reàl blueberry syrup with fresh blueberries and mint. This was a very refreshing drink and the blueberries were a fun twist on a classic mojito. It’s Showtime Mojito We also couldn’t resist giving the Supernova shakes another try. These monster shakes feature candy, cake, and other treats on top of a milkshake. There are three varieties — the Strawberry Big Bang, the Cosmic Cotton Candy, and the Chocolate Comet. They are each named after the milkshake flavor, which means yes, that is a Cotton Candy flavored milkshake in the middle. Drink Menu Once again, these are a letdown. Don’t get us wrong — they are incredibly pretty and very “Instagramable”(which might be the point) — but they aren’t going to blow you away taste-wise. The milkshakes themselves are still more icy than creamy, and the toppings taste store-bought and generic. But hey, if you want a pretty drink that will make your Willy Wonka dreams come true, then by all means! Supernova Shakes Now onto actual food — first up appetizers! Appetizers Menu For a healthier start, we kicked things off with the Hummus trio. The trio is made up of garlic, black bean and red pepper, and edamame hummus. It’s pretty good as far as hummus goes, but nothing fancy to look at, hence no photo. If you know what hummus looks like…it’s that. We also wanted to get our hands on the World Famous Chicken Crunch. This was one of our personal favorites from the OG Planet Hollywood before the renovation, and it now is served in a cute chicken basket. Chicken Crunch These are chicken tenders, breaded in a sweet crispy coating (which we’re 99% sure contains Cap’n Crunch), and served with a side of Planet Hollywood’s creole mustard. Chicken Crunch We personally really like them, but they are sweeter than we remembered. The spicy mustard does help balance the flavor though! Overall they are pretty good chicken tenders if you’re ok with the sweetness. The World Famous Chicken Crunch is also part of the High Roller Appetizer Sampler, which we also tried. High Roller Sampler The sampler serves four, and comes presented on this large wheel (which does not spin. We tried!). In addition to the Chicken Crunch, the High Roller comes with Texas Tostados, 5- Cheese Dip, Fried Shrimp, and Buffalo Wings. First up, the Texas Tosados. These were another favorite of ours from the original Planet Hollywood, and I am happy to report they still hold up. These are Crispy gyoza skins topped with BBQ chicken, sautéed onions, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, pico de gallo and drizzled with sour cream and BBQ sauce. Is there anything incredibly special about these? No. But it’s still a winning Tex-mex flavor combo that we’d eat again. Texas Tostados The Fried Shrimp are jumbo shrimp that are accompanied by slaw and a spicy Sriracha mayo. Previously, these were called Peri Peri Shrimp, and they came tossed in an unexpectedly spicy sauce. It seems as though Planet Hollywood has toned down the heat though — now it’s just a generic fried flavor if you don’t add the spicy mayo. Honestly, this was a letdown because we preferred the heat from before. Fried Shrimp The buffalo wings were tossed in a standard buffalo sauce and honestly were very under sauced. These were pretty meh this meal, as they were last time. Buffalo Wings Lastly the 5 Cheese Dip which is Swiss, Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmesan, and Asiago with spinach and artichoke hearts. It is served with toasted pitas and tortilla chips. Thoughts? It’s melted cheese times five. Obviously, it’s delicious. 5 Cheese Dip Now, time to taste a few entrees! Guy’s Burger Menu First up, we tried the Bacon Mac-n-Cheese Burger from the Guy Fieri Big Bite Burgers Menu. This out of control burger has Applewood-Smoked Bacon, Six Cheese Mac-n-Cheese, Cheddar, LTOP, Onion Straws, and Donkey Sauce. For those who don’t speak Guy Fieri, LTOP is lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. It’s also served with Triple Fries, which means you get regular fries, waffle fries, and potato rounds in the same bucket. Bacon Mac N Cheese Burger This is a big, hunkin’ burger so we definitely recommend coming hungry or sharing. Overall, it’s a pretty good burger, though the Mac-n-Cheese is drowned out by the bacon and other flavors. The Triple Fries are seasoned nicely, and a fun twist on only being served ONE shape of potato. Next up, something from the Grille Specialties. Grille Specialties We chose the BBQ Ribs, which we are happy to report are still served on the super cute tiny picnic table! BBQ Ribs Truthfully, these were the biggest let down of the night to us. They look very tasty (and again, adorable), and they are fall-off-the-bone ribs. But for being advertised as “smothered with BBQ sauce”, they were very under sauced, which is an important staple of winning ribs. We also wanted to revisit a final Planet Hollywood dish off the pasta menu, the L.A. Lasagna. LA Lasagna This unique twist on the classic Italian dish is Fried Fresh pasta tubes filled with ricotta and Bolognese meat sauce topped with roasted garlic cream and tomato basil sauces. The garlic cream sauce is very tasty, and the only real critique is that the noodles are a touch chewy after being fried. This is certainly a fun way to present pasta, and it’s a very rich dish that would be easily shareable. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian dish, this is not going to fit the bill, but if you’re looking for a unique and indulgent meal, then we do enjoy this one! Did you think we were full after drinks (including milkshakes) and entrees? GUESS AGAIN! It’s time for dessert. Dessert Menu We dove first into the Sticky Toffee Pudding which is topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. This was tasty, and we’d certainly eat it again, however it doesn’t crack our list for the best bread puddings in Walt Disney World, which include the Ohana Bread Pudding and the Toffee Bread Pudding at House of Blues. We also tried all three of the Star Jar Desserts — Banana Pudding, Brownie Cheesecake, and Key Lime Pie. Star Jar Desserts The Banana Pudding was excellent, and we recommend this one if you’re a banana pudding fan. They do not skimp on the vanilla wafers, which are obviously the best part of banana pudding. The Brownie Cheesecake was meh, with it tasting more like a brownie and whipped cream than brownie and cheesecake. And finally, the Key Lime Pie was again a winner with its creamy key lime layers and abundance of graham cracker crumbs. Finally, we treated ourselves to the Brownie Sundae Martini (we do this for YOU, people!!). Dessert Menu There’s a reason this is listed as shareable… Brownie Sundae Martini …it’s gigantic! The martini glass was as big as our faces. It comes piled high with TWELVE brownie chunks and six scoops of ice cream (vanilla and chocolate), and is topped with caramel and chocolate sauces, whipped cream, and a cherry. Overall this is another very photogenic dish, but it tastes like a generic brownie sundae. It’s not BAD…just not outstanding or special (besides the fact that it’s massive.) Overall Turns out our second impression, was just about the same as our first. While we had excellent service this go-round, (thanks again for showing us where the Titanic door was!) there just isn’t anything special or unique about the menu. It can be fun to check out the memorabilia, but to us, that’s not enough of a reason to make this a must-do. There are good items here — and they seem to be the same ones that Planet Hollywood has had around forever, such as the Texas Tostados and the L.A. Lasagna. We liked the Hummus Trio and the Key Lime Pie and Banana Pudding Star Jars as well. Both of the cocktails tried were good, but not the most amazing cocktails we’ve ever had. It seems that Planet Hollywood Observatory is overpriced and outdone by other locations in Disney Springs. We do really like the Chicken Crunch, but we’d still rather get tenders at Chicken Guy!. Same goes for the Bacon Mac-n-cheese Burger — we’d rather grab D-luxe burger for significantly less money. For the price range of the entrees at Planet Hollywood Observatory, you could dine at outstanding Disney Springs locations such as Homecomin‘, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, or The Edison. We said it before, and we’re saying it again — just keep walking past Planet Hollywood Observatory. Sorry, guys. Have you dined at the new Planet Hollywood Observatory? What did you think? While 2019 brought us Disney’s Skyliner, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and of course, Rise of the Resistance, we’re ready for 2020! That’s because Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be opening next year and we can’t wait to “rat around” on this new Disney attraction! Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Here’s the scoop on everything you need to know about this fabulous new ride coming to Walt Disney World! Alright, friends! It’s time to dish out all the info we know at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure so far! We’ll be trying not to include any spoilers here — rather just consider this a DFB amuse-bouche to whet the appetite and awaken your palette! Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ©Disney What is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure? Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a trackless 4D dark ride based on the 2007 Disney/Pixar animated film, Ratatouille. It will be a replica of Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy that opened in Disneyland Paris in 2014. Once you are “shrunk down” to the size of one of Remy’s vermin friends, you’ll scamper through Gusteau’s Restaraunt in a rat-shaped ride vehicle encountering various characters from the movie along with the sounds, sights and smells of this highly-acclaimed Parisian eatery. There will also be special water and heat effects — but we don’t want to ruin the surprise, so that’s all we’re gonna say about that! Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Ride Vehicle Read more about the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure “ratmobiles” here! Where Will It Be Located? Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is coming to France Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. Construction has been underway on the new attraction’s show building at the back of the France pavilion for some time, located across from where the new International Gateway Skyliner Station is now open. Skyliner Gondolas Near France Pavilion Opening Date: While we still don’t know the exact date Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is set to debut, we know the timeframe will be sometime in the summer of 2020! Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ©Disney Find out more about Remy’s Ratatouille’s Adventure’s opening date here! Will there be FastPass and Single Rider? At this moment, Disney World hasn’t confirmed if their new Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will offer FastPasses or a separate Single Rider queue in addition to its Standby queue. However, Disneyland Paris’s version does offer both FastPasses and Single Rider options, so it looks somewhat promising that Disney World will do the same. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we get more info! L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy How Long Is It? The duration of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is about 5 minutes. Is it Family-Friendly? Yes. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be a fun, thrilling ride for many adults and small children alike. Quick potential SPOILER sidenote to follow — One scene involves a chase from a meat cleaver-wielding Chef Skinner which might frighten some little kids, but we think the overall impression of the attraction promises to be of a more light-hearted and whimsical nature. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be a delightful addition to Epcot’s World Showcase, and not-to-be missed in our book — right up there with Norway pavilion’s Frozen Ever After! Watch out for Chef Skinner! What Are the Height and Safety Requirements? Disney hasn’t officially released any information regarding the Disney World version of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, but going off the details of Disneyland Paris’s website, guests may be any height to ride. Expectant mothers or guests who are sensitive to motion sickness are advised not to ride. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ©Disney Is the Ride Wheelchair Accessible? According to Disneyland Paris’s Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure’s website, yes, although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet for the U.S. version. Disneyland Paris’s attraction has specially-adapted ride vehicles for accommodating ECVs and wheelchairs directly without transfer, but guests may also transfer from their wheelchair to standard ride vehicles. France Pavilion We can’t wait to ride this cool new attraction Disney is cookin’ up for us! We’ll be back with all the lastest Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure info, so stay tuned and make sure you subscribe to the DFB newsletter to stay in the loop! Epcot’s upcoming Regal Eagle Smokehouse is almost here (hopefully), and we are SO ready for some BBQ! Regal Eagle ©Disney Earlier today, we visited the site of the future BBQ-joint to check out the progress of construction, and now we have even more exciting details that have us itching for the newest Epcot restaurant to open its doors! Disney Parks has released some new images and information for the restaurant, featuring the BBQ-joint’s namesake Sam the Eagle! Our favorite patriotic Muppet will be featured in the decor of the new restaurant. He will be front and center on this sign — which also looks like it may be the restaurant’s logo — which will be on display when you enter the fast-casual eatery. Sam is looking like his usual stoic self, but is fully prepared for some BBQ with grilling tools grasped in his talons! Regal Eagle Smokehouse ©Disney We also got a sneak peek at a Sam the Eagle-themed poster that will be displayed in the restaurant, advertising Sam’s Centennial Cook-Off! When you visit, it seems as if it will happen to be Sam’s Annual Cookoff. This event will be hosted by Sam himself, and will be “a salute to all cook-offs…but mostly barbecue!” We cannot wait to check out this “event”, which is described as “a competition fit for all patriots and pitmasters”, and will apparently feature a variety of classic BBQ favorites from across the country going head to head to compete for Sam’s top honor! Regal Eagle Smokehouse ©Disney We are SO here for more Muppets in the park, and were thrilled to learn that Sam the Eagle decor (along with exclusive merchandise!) will be prominently on display in the newest Epcot eatery. The restaurant will be opening its doors later this winter, but in the meantime, you can check out our review of some of the menu items here! Check out ALL the info we have on Regal Eagle: Smokehouse here! Will you be going to Regal Eagle when it opens in Epcot? Let us know in the comments below! Related posts: BBQ, We’re Ready for You! Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue is a new fast-casual restaurant opening soon at The American Adventure pavilion in Epcot. Today I have new details to share about what is sure to become a guest favorite foodie spot in World Showcase – including new merchandise on the way! The restaurant takes its name from the venerable Sam Eagle, the Muppet known for his patriotism and strict sense of duty and honor. He takes all things seriously … and barbecue is certainly one of those things. Regal Eagle Smokehouse will be the site for “Sam’s Centennial Cook-Off: A Salute to All Cook-Offs but Mostly Barbecue.” Guests will be the beneficiaries of this contest – described as “a competition fit for all patriots and pit masters” – as it brings in a variety of classic backyard barbecue selections from across the country to vie for Sam’s top honor (for more details on the menu, click here). Sam’s unmistakable visage will be part of the décor at this new restaurant. For instance, you’ll see him on the sign as you walk in … … and inside, on a poster highlighting the barbecue competition. He will also be incorporated into new Regal Eagle Smokehouse merchandise available exclusively at this tasty locale. OK … I’m officially hungry now! I can’t wait to try everything on the menu. Because if it passes Sam Eagle’s muster, you know it’s going to be the very best. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for more information on this fun new restaurant as we prepare to officially open its doors later this winter. View the full article
