It’s another week, which means another round of closures in Disney World! Epcot Entrance If you’re going to be pounding the pavement in Disney World the week of January 13th through January 19th then you’re probably going to want to know what you WON’T be able to do in the parks. Check out this week’s installation of everything that will be closed for refurbishment in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and more! Refurbishments in Magic Kingdom Splash Mountain Last week we shared an update about how Splash Mountain will be closed for a little over a month, and that closure includes next week. The refurb window for this super-popular attraction started last Monday and the attraction is set to remain closed until February 28th. So if you were hoping to cause some trouble with Bre’r Rabbit, it’s going to have to wait. Splash Mountain Closure Click here to get more info about this regular seasonal Splash Mountain closure! Walt Disney World Railroad No surprise here, but the Walt Disney World Railroad remains closed until further notice. For now, one of the locomotives remains in residence at the Main Street Station if you want to check out these historic trains (and get a pic)! The railway is closed due to interference from construction on TRON Lightcycle Run in Tomorrowland, which will likely wrap up sometime in 2021. Magic Kingdom Train Station Click here to check out what we know about TRON Lightcycle Run! Refurbishments in Epcot Test Track and Test Track SIMporium Epcot has got a new closure this week with Test Track and the accompanying Test Track SIMporium! Test Track closes on Monday and is not set to reopen until February 6. No worries though, this closure is just for routine maintenance, so we’ll be back on our custom wheels soon! Test Track Will you be missing Test Track while it’s gone? Click here! Impressions de France Another unsurprising closure next week is over in the World Showcase at Impressions de France. However, we have good news with this one! The Palais du Cinema reopens THIS FRIDAY (January 17th) with the return of Impressions de France and the opening of the new Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along which will play in a rotation. Epcot France Pavilion Closed Impressions de France Want a sneak peek of the Beauty and the Beast Sing-along? Click here! Canada Circle-Vision Theater Over in Canada, we’ll only have to wait until the end of the week for the reopening of the Canada Circle-Vision Theater, with its own all-new film Canada Far & Wide premiering on January 17th too! Canada Far and Wide ©Disney Click here to learn more about Canada Far & Wide! Refurbishments in Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids The seasonal closure of Kali River Rapids continues this week over in Animal Kingdom. This routine maintenance window is set to end March 21st, so you’ll have to hold off on that river adventure for now. Kali River Rapids Click here to learn more about the Kali River Rapids closure! Primeval Whirl And just a reminder that Primeval Whirl is closed again in its new pattern of seasonal operation. We likely won’t see this dino-tastic attraction running again until the busy season. Primeval Whirl Water Parks Blizzard Beach Blizzard Beach has been closed since September and should reopen on Sunday, January 18th. We’re excited to see what Disney has done during this lengthy closure! Blizzard Beach And, with no refurbishments in Hollywood Studios, that’s all the closures in Disney World this week! We’re just TWO MONTHS from the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Hollywood Studios, so it’s full steam ahead! ©Disney Channel Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a new and highly-anticipated attraction that’s coming to the Chinese Theater in Hollywood Studios. It’s based on the award-winning Mickey Mouse shorts and the story of the ride is that guests will be pulled into a new episode of the short. While walking through the lobby on the way to your ride vehicle, you’ll pass posters of previous releases from the cartoon, so what better way to countdown to the opening of the ride than to release a few of those posters?! The next poster in the series has been released and it’s one that takes a look at the most unconventional “Three-Legged Race” team ever — Mickey and Pete. Mickey doesn’t seem too happy about that but hey, at least they’re winning! Three-Legged Race Poster ©Disney We’ve previously seen the release of the “Wish Upon a Coin” poster which is one of our fave Mickey Mouse shorts as it draws its inspiration from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. My brother, sister-in-law and sweet nieces from across the pond visited Walt Disney World Resort during the holiday season to take in what was new since their last visit about four years ago. Back then it was solely about princesses and fairytales. I recall those magical days when they yearned for crowns and gowns and princess-inspired places to stay, dine and play. Even though they’ve grown up a bit and their interests have changed, their inner princess remains strong! If I could craft a royal itinerary for little ones, here’s what I would recommend: Best place to stay is Port Orleans Riverside with specially designed royal rooms featuring ornate décor, grand beds and fiber-optic special effects fit for a princess. The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is another option with its Victorian opulence that’s as regal as it gets. Make a reservation for dinner at Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare. This low key, buffet-style dinner at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is ideal for one-on-one time with Cinderella, Prince Charming and the evil stepsisters. It’s a good segway for what’s to come. Magic Kingdom Park is overflowing with fairytales for princess-loving families with Cinderella Castle taking center stage for unforgettable photo ops. But there’s more to the Castle than you might think. Be sure to make a breakfast res at Cinderella’s Royal Table located on the second level of the stunning icon. Before you head up the winding staircase to dine and meet the princesses, you can get your photo taken with Cinderella just inside the castle doors. If your little one desires a magical princess makeover complete with princess dresses, sparkly makeup and nails, there’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique conveniently situated in the castle breezeway (with other locations at Disney Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.) Now that your little princess fits the part, it’s time to navigate the park for more sovereign stuff like Enchanted Tales with Belle, Ariel’s Grotto, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid. Then head to Gaston’s Tavern for a quick snack or enjoy lunch at Be Our Guest, inside the Beast’s Castle. Get your FastPasses for Princess Fairytale Hall the royal residence for Cinderella, Elena, Rapunzel and Tiana. There’s also meet and greets scattered throughout the park with Merida, Tiana, Jasmine and more. The princess adventure continues just a curtsy or two away to Epcot. Frozen fans can Meet Princess Anna and Queen Elsa at the Royal Sommerhus and then journey thru Arendelle and celebrate the story from the film “Frozen” on Frozen Ever After. And the new “Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along” film in the France pavilion that debuts on January 17 will be a must-see too. There are other enchanting options like Disney’s Perfectly Princess Tea party at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, meet and greets with Pocahontas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and so much to explore at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and more on your next visit. So get your princess on and feel like royalty during your next visit to Walt Disney World Resort while your little one still believes in the magic. View the full article

Walt Disney World has no shortage of special events for guests looking to level up their vacations, but few are as distinctly Disney World as the Highway in the Sky Dine Around. Highway in the Sky Dine Around This bespoke dining event is a progressive dinner that begins with drinks and a bright and flavorful appetizer and ends with fireworks and (more) drinks. The “in the Sky” part? That’s the Walt Disney World Monorail which serves as your carriage for the night. It’s onboard this iconic vehicle that you’ll be taken to all three of the Monorail loop Resorts: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. Your chariot awaits! The progressive meal showcases flavors and presentations unique to each Resort and their restaurants, including The Wave…of American Flavors, Kona Cafe, and Citricos. And it all winds down with a reserved viewing location for Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular. Highway in the Sky Finale The Wave…of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort But let’s go back to the beginning: when you arrive at Disney’s Contemporary Resort to enjoy a light appetizer and drinks at The Wave…of American Flavors’ lounge. The Wave…of American Flavors Entrance Highway participants have a reserved lounge in which to enjoy their introductory eats and drinks. Yes, the lighting is really that blue and that moody. But it’s part of the fun of the lounge! Highway in the Sky Dine Around Reserved Lounge Seating The appetizer here on our visit was Spring Pea Bisque with Truffle Oil, but keep in mind all of the drinks and food served at all spots can change some depending on when you visit. Spring Pea Bisque with Truffle Oil To accompany the springy bisque: the Discovery Island Fizz. This drink is made with St. Germain, Hendricks Gin, cucumbers, and strawberry. This was a refreshing drink that didn’t compete with the simple flavors of the soup. Discovery Island Fizz One drink and a light soup down, we board the Monorail en route to the Polynesian! Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Our next stop was Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for heavier food items from Kona Cafe. Highway at the Polynesian The space here is set up with small tables and chairs or hightops with stools. The views are beautiful, and while the event is not in the restaurant proper, guests still have plenty of island vibes to help them relax. Seating for the Highway’s Polynesian Stop Table settings include flower leis to drive home that island vibe… Table Setting …along with a napkin, cutlery, and chopsticks. Table Setting The drink served at the Poly was a Tropical Mai Tai. This was a fruity and slightly sweet drink that complemented the savory eats. Tropical Mai Tai Here there was a non-alcoholic offering, too — in line with a Shirley Temple and served with a cocktail umbrella. Non-Alcoholic Drink The Dine Around dishes at Kona were served as a trio of small bites. Highway in the Sky Bites from Kona Cafe Kona Cafe Bites The first was Swordfish with Ginger Beurre Blanc and Cabbage Slaw. The flavors worked well, and though it’s a small portion overall, the swordfish was a generous size. The slaw added some brightness from a vinegar-based dressing. Swordfish with Ginger Burblanc and Cabbage Slaw The second fish dish on the plate was Tuna Poke with Avocado Cream and a Prawn Chip. This dish lands you squarely in the islands with a combination of fresh tuna and cubes of mango. Tuna Poke with Avocado Cream and a Prawn Chip The richest item on the plate was the Island Spice-Rubbed Beef Tenderloin. Served with roasted potatoes, the beef gets an added layer of flavor from a miso demi. Island Spice-Rubbed Beef Tenderloin For those diners who don’t fancy seafood, there was a second plating. This one keeps the beef but loses both fish preparations. Kona offerings without seafood Instead, there’s a stir fry of chicken and noodles with some veggies. Asian Style Chicken and Noodle Stir fry And completing the trio is a light fruit salad with popping pearls. Tropical Fruit Salad Bellys growing full, it was time to take a short Monorail ride over to the Grand Floridian! Citricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian The meal continues at Disney’s Grand Floridian, which always lays out the marble tile for guests. Welcome to the Grand Floridian Citricos is an oft-forgotten Signature restaurant that typically wows with vibrant flavor combinations. Citricos Dining We were seated in a private area of the dining room and met with a simple and clean table setting. Citricos Place Setting The stop at Citricos began with the restaurant’s bread service. Citricos Bread The main course here is served as a duo with accompanying sides. There’s no skimping on richness here, despite the smaller portions. Braised Short Rib and Florida Red Snapper The Braised Short Rib is a stand-out, served atop smooth mashed potatoes and topped with fresh greens. Braised Short Rib The Florida Red Snapper isn’t much to look at, truthfully, but the freshness of the fish and the braised greens is a staple of Citricos. Florida Red Snapper For those not eating seafood, there was a second preparation with two pieces of beef rather than the snapper. Citricos Offering without Seafood Our entrees at Citricos were accompanied by our choice of a glass of red or white wine. Garden View Lounge at Disney’s Grand Floridian The next stop was just downstairs in the Garden View Lounge where it’s typically tea time. Garden View Lounge But this stop was all about that Cheese & Charcuterie Course! This course is accompanied by a thorough menu explaining each component. Cheese and Charcuterie Course Each guest received a glass of champagne to accompany the course. Cheese and Charcuterie Course with Fairytale Sparkling Wine Cuvee This was a fairly straightforward course from a visual perspective, and each component was delicious. There was plenty of toasted bread, and though this was a smaller-than-average charcuterie, it made a big impression. Cheese and Charcuterie As night time set it, it was time to head back on the Monorail for one final trip to the Contemporary! Desserts and Viewing at Disney’s Contemporary Resort The night winds down back at Disney’s Contemporary Resort where a reserved viewing area on the fifth floor serves as the culminating event of the Dine Around. Highway in the Sky Dine Around Reserved Viewing Area Beverages here include hot tea and coffee, ice water, canned soda, and some additions like Kahlua, Frangelico, and Bailey’s for the grown-ups. Drinks during fireworks There were three desserts during our Dine Around, and diners could select whatever they liked. Desserts at Contemporary Naturally, we had one of each. Why even dessert party if you’re not trying one of everything? Desserts at the Contemporary The Key Lime Bars were creamy and tart, balanced well with a thick base of graham cracker crust and topped with tiny mountains of meringue. Key Lime Bar The bright Strawberry Shortcake was a flavorful play on the quintessential treat. The lightness of this was welcome after several heavy dishes during the other courses. Strawberry Shortcake The richest of the three desserts was the Organic Chocolate Flourless Cake. Served as a pyramid, it was dense and rich but, to be honest, we preferred the two fruity options! Organic Chocolate Flourless Cake Of course, the real treat at the end of your Highway in the Sky Dine Around is the spectacular view of Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks show. Happily Ever After Views Happily Ever After Views But for good measure, you’ll also take home a pair of sweets: a truffle and a cordial. Truffle and Cordial With 5 courses and drinks behind us, we were pleasantly full after our evening around the Highway in the Sky! Overall The Highway in the Sky Dine Around is a fabulous experience. Guests are able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Monorail Resorts and get a taste for what each brings to the table culinarily. Each stop is treated with care so that guests feel like they’re really getting some special treatment. The amount of food in the progressive meal was satisfying, and the drink pairings made sense and are a big part of the value. That said, for $170 per person, this is likely out of reach for most guests. And those who do shell out the cash for this truly lovely and memorable experience probably won’t do it more than once or will reserve it for the most special of occasions. And if you’re not drinking those paired cocktails and wine? It’s likely not worth the price unless you’re in it for the overall experience. Which we totally get because there is something pretty cool about being chauffeured by the Monorail and treated to top-notch service along the way. Some things to note about the experience: guests must be 12 or older to participate, and there is a dress code. Essentially this means no flip flops, swimsuits, hats, torn clothing, or offensive language or graphics. Khakis, dress shorts, and nice shirts are fine. Valet parking is included with the Dine Around; parking is at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where guests check-in for the experience at The Wave. No Disney Dining Plan credits are accepted for the Highway in the Sky Dine Around, and the event will be held in rain and cold weather. Click here for more details or to book your own Highways in the Sky Dine Around experience. Have you enjoyed the Highway in the Sky Dine Around? Today, we’re revealing new Mickey cartoon short-inspired poster art in our special series celebrating the March 4 debut of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Our new “Three-Legged Race” poster features Mickey and Pete teaming up for a big race after Minnie chooses to partner with Daisy. We hope you’re sitting down because it’s with heavy hearts and shaking hands that we type out these SAD words… RIP $5 NOODS. You were too pure for this world! The much-beloved $5 Noodles from Tambu Lounge are NO MORE. Haven’t got a clue what we’re talkin’ about? Gather near to us DFB fam, and we will tell you a tale of the golden, glistening Teriyaki Noodles for $5… that WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE! Our story begins at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. You may recall this Disney World resort which is best known for its relaxing South Seas vibes and tropical undertones. What are we saying? The Poly’s an over-the-top tropical PARADISE! This place screams island oasis, you know, in a soothing sorta way! Polynesian Village Resort Lobby Walking through the Polynesian’s doors today, we were immediately welcomed with the floral scent of tropical orchids and the dulcet tones of Hawaiian music strumming. AHHHH! HEAVEN! Disney’s Polynesian Resort As if on auto-pilot, our bodies made their way to Tambu Lounge where we ponied up to the bar. Once we had the friendly bartender’s attention we inquired about our beloved secret menu $5 Teriyaki Noodles (the exact same ones served at the more expensive ‘Ohana dinner service) — and we were SHOCKED at what we learned! Tambu Lounge Sign Don’t worry! You can still order the Teriyaki Noodles and other secret ‘Ohana menu items at Tambu Lounge, but once you hear the price tag — you may be less inclined… Tambu Lounge Read about the other secret menu ‘Ohana items you can order at Tambu Lounge here! Brace yourself for this… HERE IT COMES! The $5 Noodles are now $9!!! Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, does it? That’s what we thought, too! And while $5 Noods sounded like an awesome deal (well worth a tasting size portion of ‘Ohana’s delightful noodles!), 9 bucks for a tiny bowl IS a hefty price increase! And$9 feels like a lot for the portion size (to us at least). $9 Noods… Worth it? But the blows kept comin’! While earlier we were able to get ‘Ohana’s signature dessert, Bread Pudding, for $6 (as recently as February of last year) the cost has also gone up! The ‘Ohana Bread Pudding now costs $12 — a 100 percent price increase! ‘Ohana Bread Pudding We were reeling after hearing the news. And while there’s no actual, physical menu we can show you since these are SECRET MENU items, a Cast Member has confirmed these changes. ‘Ohana Bread Pudding at Tambu Lounge We think we’d rather just shell out the $60 and take the Twilight Feast of ‘Ohana eats in our rooms instead! We’ll keep an eye on this situation as it develops, but for now, calm your nerves by subscribing to our DFB newsletter where we’ll tell you about happier times! Have you ever ordered the ‘Ohana secret menu items at Tambu Lounge? Are you just as shocked as we are by these price increases? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! If you’ve recovered from the 5K race earlier today and are looking for a way to celebrate, we know just the thing! Blue Hawaiian Float Hey, you’ve earned a special treat for all your hard work! And even if you’re not racing in one of the 2020 Disney World Marathon Weekend events, we STILL think you deserve THIS treat! Check out the new Blue Hawaiian Float we just spotted at Disney World! This Blue Hawaiian Float is GORGEOUS! And even though this special treat is a stunning shade of blue, it actually features lime soft-serve a.k.a. lime Dole Whip, just like the Heart of Te Fiti Cone Pineapple Lanai used to serve! Blue Hawaiian Float The Blue Hawaiian Float also includes coconut rum, tropical juices, and popping candy — unfortunately, they were out of popping candy when we stopped by, but hopefully, they’ll be restocking it soon! Blue Hawaiian Float To us, the Blue Hawaiian Float tasted strongly of pineapple juice and blue curaçao, but there were definitely some citrus notes in it too! The edible flower it comes garnished with is the cherry on top! Blue Hawaiian Float And while we didn’t really miss the popping candy, we can see how it would’ve been a fun addition! Blue Hawaiian Float You can buy the Blue Hawaiian Float for $12 at Disney Polynesian Resort’s Pineapple Lanai! And while you don’t have to be racing in any events this weekend to purchase it, you will need to hurry, as we’re suspecting it will run away once the Marathon Weekend wraps up, but ya never know! Pandora It sure was WILD celebrating the holidays at Animal Kingdom in a new way this season, but now that Christmas is over, things are starting to return to normal! Join us for a walk through the park to see what’s been happening since our last visit! It’s a gorgeous day for a trek around Animal Kingdom, so enough monkeying around! Let’s get going! It’s Turk! Food Update in Animal Kingdom Multiple Locations While the Merry Menagerie puppets have flown the coop, the Merry Menagerie Popcorn Buckets have stayed behind! We also saw other styles of refillable holiday popcorn buckets still hanging around — like these Mickey Elf Popcorn Buckets at the Mahinidi Popcorn and Snack Stand in Africa! Holiday Popcorn Buckets at Mahinidi Discovery Island Pizzafari Meanwhile, on Discovery Island, the Merry Menagerie Cupcake was no longer available at Pizzafari, but the Simba Cupcake for $5.99 has decided to stick around! He’s a timeless classic, after all! We first saw him appear waaaay back in 2014, and then return in 2019 for The Lion King’s 25th anniversary! Looks like he’ll still be roaring in the 20s — at least for a little while! Pizzafari Read our review of the Simba Cupcake here! Creature Comforts We also saw that the Lotus Blossom Cupcake for $5.99 has returned. This one’s available at Creature Comforts and Restaurantosaurus! It’s soooo pretty and reminds us of the Rivers of Light floats! Lotus Blossom Cupcake Smiling Crocodile and Terra Treats Now that the holiday crowds have come and gone, we bid farewell to the seasonally-open spots Smiling Crocodile and Terra Treats! We’ll see you guys again once to park gets busy again, but for now, we’ll dampen our sadness with shorter wait times and not shuffling around the park in a sea of humanity! Smiling Crocodile Isle of Java Over at Isle of Java, the seasonal drinks are still prowling around on its menu. If you didn’t get your fill of them during the holiday season, hurry over there before they disappear! Isle of Java Eight Spoon Cafe And since we hadn’t stopped by the Eight Spoon Cafe for one of our favorite snacks (and best value for a Disney Dining Plan snack credit) in a while, we had to grab a Baked Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork for $6.79! Eight Spoon Cafe’s Baked Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork This thing is seriously legit! So noodly and cheesy and porky. There’s nothing about it we don’t absolutely LOVE and obsess over when we close our eyes at night! Eight Spoon Cafe’s Baked Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork Read our full review of Eight Spoon’s mac and cheese HERE! Africa Harambe Fruit Market At the Harambe Fruit Market, we saw they’ve upgraded their Corn on the Cob sign — a tasty treat which is also DDP snack credit eligible for you folks rockin’ the 2020 Disney Dining Plan! New Sign Harambe Fruit Market Tamu Tamu Refreshments And at Tamu Tamu Refreshments, we noticed they too are now serving the Colossal Cinnamon Roll! Speaking of most-bang-for-your-DDP-snack-credit, this thing is HUGE! You can find ‘em at various other locations throughout the park including Creature Comforts and Kusafiri Bakery as well! Colossal Cinnamon Roll Find out more about the Colossal Cinnamon Roll here! Zuri’s Sweets At Zuri’s Sweets, their bakery case has returned to its regularly-scheduled treats and is no longer serving seasonal items.
