Meeting characters in Disney World can be some of the most magical moments you’ll remember for years to come. Minnie and Pluto! Sometimes you just want to snap a photo on your phone, other times you’ve bought PhotoPass to download all those professional photos, and other times, you just want them to sign something of yours. But an autograph book isn’t the only thing characters can sign. In fact, this is how a super cheap Disney souvenir became a massive trend in the parks! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. If you find yourself not being able to, or not really wanting to buy an autograph book for characters to sign, don’t worry, there are other options! So what can you use instead? Moana in EPCOT Almost anything! You could ask characters to sign a shirt, a water bottle, a photo, or even a pair of ears! As long as it’s something appropriate that wouldn’t break Disney World’s rules, characters can most likely sign it. Mickey and Minnie Now depending on the shape of the item, the signatures may come out a little wonky, but you’ll still have them! This idea works better when you don’t have too many characters signing the item (ears don’t have a lot of space!). If you’d like a lot of signatures, you can create your own signature booklet at home with some plain paper (or colored construction paper) and staples at home, or in the business center of your hotel (and when it doubt, you could ask the Cast Members at the front desk for help). Hi Daisy! Need some ideas on what to grab? Have Them Sign A Picture Frame! You can grab a pack of 15 8×10 White Picture Mats for them to sign! ©Amazon The best part? You can add whatever photos you’d like in here and make it customized to you and your trip. Add it to your cart! Can’t Go Wrong With A Water Bottle If you’re looking for a blank slate water bottle that will also be great for keeping your drink cold around the park, grab a VEGOND 17oz Stainless Steel Water Bottle. ©Amazon You can also grab this water bottle in multiple different colors. Be sure to grab a colored sharpie that will show up on whatever color you decide to grab! Buy it here! A Hat Is A Great Solution, Too And if you’re looking for a hat that perfectly matches your Disney outfit, grab the Disney Boys Baseball Cap. ©Amazon If you decide to grab this hat, be sure to grab a white sharpie to use for those signatures, or else it won’t show up! Well, it’s no secret that planning a trip to Disney World can be pretty expensive. Intermission Food Court Once you’ve booked your hotel, paid for your tickets, and booked your flight, you’re already out a pretty penny. And that’s not even including those pricey Genie+ fees! It’s also no secret that price increases happen a LOT on Disney World food, and if you’re planning on eating at your hotel food court, we’ve got some news about that, too. That’s right. We’ve spotted some price increases on a few items at Disney World’s hotel food courts. This includes menus at the following: World Premiere Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort End Zone Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Everything Pop at Disney’s Pop Century Resort Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter Riverside Mill at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside Riverside Mill Food Court at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside Ordering a Super Slice of Pepperoni Pizza will now cost $11.70 — a pretty big increase from the old $9.79 price. However, you now get a choice of Potato Chips or Carrots and Celery with it. So you’ll pay more, but you’ll also get a little more. Everything POP at Disney’s Pop Century Also, if you order the Super Slice of Cheese Pizza, the price has changed from $9.29 to $11.29, but it’s also now served with a choice of Potato Chips or Carrots and Celery. Again, you’re paying more but also getting more. If you look at it this way, a bag of Potato Chips in Disney World usually costs $3, so if you get the chips with the pizza, you’re saving $1. But it’s still a price increase, especially if you just wanted a slice of pizza and nothing else. When it comes to drinking around the world, most of us “start left” at EPCOT’s World Showcase and head straight to the Mexico Pavilion. La Cava del Tequila There’s a good reason for that, though. Mexico is home to La Cava del Tequila, a bar that’s so popular even celebrities often frequent this spot. Some celebrities have even created special drinks for the bar. Well, we’re trying a NEW drink from La Cava del Tequila, and this one even snuck in a Breaking Bad reference. So here’s the backstory: Dos Hombres Mezcal was founded by Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. The two celebrities actually visited La Cava del Tequila recently! They were even serving up drinks. Looks like a great time, right? We’ll be back with even more reviews, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Are you planning to visit Disney World at the beginning of 2024? Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster If so, in case you haven’t already heard, you’ll need to know that a fan-favorite Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction will be closed for refurbishment — tomorrow! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios, a fun, fast-paced coaster that features music (and a pre-ride show) by Aerosmith, will close for refurbishment tomorrow, January 8th! ©Disney Right now, the Disney World website shows that the closure will last as far as the calendar goes, and we haven’t heard any sort of official announcements for a reopening date, which makes it entirely possible that the closure will go longer than expected. For context, early in 2023, the ride was closed for nearly three full months. If the 2023 timeline is any indication, we could see the ride remain closed through early April. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Also, since we don’t have definitive dates on when some of the attractions will open back up, we’d recommend keeping it right here for the latest info so that you can plan accordingly. Disney has been focusing a lot of its efforts recently on expanding ESPN. ©ESPN During Disney’s Q3 2023 financial earnings call, one of the company’s key points was “building ESPN into the preeminent digital sports platform.” The company has already moved forward with ESPN Bet, a new sportsbook betting service. The company is also working on CEO Bob Iger’s #1 priority, streaming, which includes ESPN+. A new deal with the NCAA will help Iger in achieving that goal. ESPN and the National Collegiate Association (NCAA) recently reached a new eight-year deal that will begin on September 1st, 2024 for NCAA championship media rights. This includes rights to 40 NCAA championships, including 21 women’s events, as well as 19 men’s events. ESPN will also have international media rights for those championships, in addition to the Division I men’s basketball tournament. ©Disney “ESPN and the NCAA have enjoyed a strong and collaborative relationship for more than four decades, and we are thrilled that it will continue as part of this new, long-term agreement,” said ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro. “The ESPN networks and platforms will exclusively present a record number of championships, including all rounds of several marquee events that, together with the NCAA, we have grown over time. This unprecedented deal also further strengthens The Walt Disney Company’s industry-leading commitment to women’s sports and will help fuel our continued growth, including in the critical streaming space.” Yes, this deal also includes streaming, which will help grow the ESPN+ streaming service and is part of Iger’s #1 priority. ©NCAA The agreement continues exclusive coverage — including streaming — from the previous deal but has also now added the Division I men’s and women’s tennis team championships, the national collegiate men’s gymnastics championships, as well as full rights for the men’s National Invitation Tournament and Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament. In addition, ESPN also has international rights for the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Here’s everything the new deal covers: Men’s Championships – soccer, football (FCS, DII & DIII), cross country, water polo, indoor track & field, swimming & diving, wrestling, ice hockey, gymnastics, fencing, volleyball, lacrosse, outdoor track & field, tennis, baseball and basketball (including DII semifinals & DIII semifinals and championship). Women’s Championships – soccer, field hockey, volleyball (including DII & DIII), cross country, indoor track & field, swimming & diving, basketball (including DII & DIII), ice hockey, bowling, gymnastics, fencing, beach volleyball, lacrosse, outdoor track & field, tennis, softball, and water polo. Other: men’s National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT); NCAA Div I Men’s Basketball Championship (international rights). ©Disney ESPN+ could see an uptick in subscribers interested in collegiate sports after this landmark agreement, which should help Disney’s overall streaming numbers and get Iger to his #1 priority goal sooner than expected. Disney World isn’t just about rides and food (although the latter is VERY important to us). Storybook Circus in Magic Kingdom There are also a lot of fun interactive experiences you can have in the parks! From visiting Kidcot stations in EPCOT to MagicBand+ interacting with things in the parks to DuckTales World Showcase Adventure, there are TONS of OTHER things to do in Disney World. Well, a NEW interactive experience is coming soon, and after chatting with a Cast Member, we’re hoping this experience is getting closer to opening. In July 2023, Disney Parks announced that a new interactive experience would be coming to Magic Kingdom. It’s called “Smellephants on Parade” and will be a “family-friendly ‘search and sniff’ adventure in Storybook Circus. Yep, Disney wants you to go around Storybook Circus sniffing things. The experience will be sponsored by Scentsy. ©Disney You may recognize the name “Scentsy” from a seasonal experience in EPCOT! During the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival, Scentsy sponsors the Blossoms of Fragrance experience, where you can enjoy garden-inspired scents by visiting six scent stations set up near some floral topiaries. Basically, those stations had little signs that you could lean in to smell and take in the springtime scents. While Disney hasn’t revealed exactly what “Smellephants on Parade” will be like, we’re wondering if it will be similar to the Blossoms of Fragrance experience. Blossoms of Fragrance Garden Back in November, we noticed some news signs in Storybook Circus. The signs have some updated branding that says “Presented by Scentsy.” More recently, we spoke to a Cast Member, who told us to “get ready for Smellephants.” It’s really happening! Note that Disney hasn’t shared an opening date quite yet, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears out for more news. Dumbo sign Here’s a closer look at more of that “Scentsy” signage, which first started to appear in late November. The more we look around, the more “Scentsy” branding we keep finding in the park! Could this be a clue that “Smellephants on Parade” will be spread throughout Storybook Circus? Considering we’ve spotted signs all over the area, it seems like a good indication that this interactive experience will take up more than just one part of Storybook Circus. Presented by Scentsy So, Smellephants could be happening soon, although we still don’t have an actual date when the experience will open. You can bet we’ll be looking for more clues around Storybook Circus, though. So stay tuned to DFB for more. In the meantime, when are you headed to Disney World next? The start of the 2024 year is bringing about lots of CHANGES to Disney World and it seems that rides are no exception. Tree of Life We already knew that Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster is getting ready to close for a longer refurbishment expected to last through Summer, as well as a few other rides. Now, we’ve got another ride to talk about that will also be ready for a refurbishment over the next few days. Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom park is expected to close TOMORROW. Kali River Rapids Beginning January 8th, 2024, Kali River Rapids will no longer be available for rides for its extended closure. During this time we expect Disney will be inspecting and performing maintenance on its water-based attraction and its ride vehicles. January and early in the year is a time when Disney tends to pull rides for regular routine maintenance, which we expect is due to the anticipated dip in crowds during these times. ©Disney While Disney hasn’t posted exactly when this refurbishment is expected to end and rides resume we were only able to see out through a few days in March 2024 and no posted operational times were listed through then. Kali River Rapids We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for when you can expect this ride to resume operation but in the meantime, be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog! HURRY! Things were very different in Disney World when the parks reopened in 2020. Face Covering Sign in Galaxy’s Edge Although it was almost four years ago, most who visited during that time will never forget having to wear a mask everywhere (both indoors and outdoors), as well as what it was like to stand in line six feet away from the person in front of you (something we kind of miss). There were temperature checks at the gates, too. So, if you’ve been keeping up with the latest news, you might know there’s been an uptick in COVID-19 infections in the U.S. again. So should you be worried about how that could affect Disney World? According to AP News, more hospitals are now requiring masks right now due to a surge in both the flu and COVID-19. In New York City, mask mandates have been reinstated for all of the city’s 11 hospitals. Some hospitals in Los Angeles and Massachusetts have also started requiring masks, as other hospitals have reinstated mask rules for employees. Over the past few weeks, both flu and COVID-19 cases have been going up, with high levels of flu symptoms being reported in 31 states before Christmas. Many health officials believe cases will also grow in January. ©Disney However, there is some good news. Cases of both flu and COVID-19 are expected to peak by the end of the month and then decrease. The flu that’s going around is mostly caused by a less deadly strain than other versions, while current flu vaccinations seem to be working well with this particular strain. Together Again Face Masks “I don’t think it’s going to be overwhelming,” said Dr. William Schaffner, Vanderbilt University infectious diseases expert. He deemed the current season “moderately severe.” Cases of COVID-19 are causing more severe illness than the flu, but the increase in cases hasn’t been rising as much. A new variant, JN.1, has emerged, though, and health officials are keeping an eye on it. Before Christmas, it accounted for 44% of new COVID-19 cases. Although the variant may spread easier, there is no proof so far that it is any more severe than previous variants, and cases are responding well to vaccines and antiviral medications. Hand Sanitizer at the Rainforest Cafe So will this affect Disney World? Well, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing those signs anytime soon requiring visitors to wear a mask, and we doubt we’ll have to do temperature checks again, so it will probably just be business as usual throughout the resort. However, if you DO get sick, you are urged to wear a mask to prevent spreading illnesses to other people. Other than that, we can recommend washing your hands with soap and water when you can and keeping hand sanitizer in your park bag. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 7 Perks That Ended With COVID and Never Returned to Disney World Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! Cindy Morgan, ‘TRON’ Star, Has Passed Away at 69
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
Cindy Morgan, an actress who starred in Tron, and Caddyshack, has passed away at the age of 69. ©Disney Morgan was known for her roles as Lora Baines and Yori in Disney’s Tron, as well as her role as Lacey Underall in Caddyshack. She also appeared on multiple TV shows in the ’80s and ’90s. Variety confirmed via The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office in Florida that the actress died of natural causes. Officials were not able to specify exactly when she passed away. Morgan was born in Chicago, on September 29th, 1954. She gained notoriety for her performance as Lacey, a blonde bombshell character, in Caddyshack, which starred Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Rodney Dangerfield. ©Warner Bros. Morgan also guest starred on TV shows like The Love Boat, Chips, and Vegas, but went on to star in Disney’s 1982 movie, Tron, as both computer programmer Lora Baines and Yori, the programmer’s alter-ego in The Grid. She returned to the world of Tron to voice the character of Ma3a in a 2003 video game, Tron 2.0. ©Disney Morgan’s other film credits include Up Yours (1979), Galaxis (1995), and Open Mic’rs (2006). Her most recent voice acting role was in the 2022 indie film Face of the Trinity as Mason’s mother. She also appeared in multiple TV series, including Matlock, The Fall Guy, The Larry Sanders Show, and more. Our thoughts are with Morgan’s friends and family at this time. Staying on property in Disney World can be such a magical experience, especially for kids. Disney’s Rivera Resort However, some people don’t want to be reminded that they’re at Disney everywhere they look in their hotel room. If that’s you, you may decide to stay off-property instead, either at a Good Neighbor Hotel or one of the other hotels near the park. If you’re planning your upcoming trip and are looking at staying off-property, check out this new MASSIVE hotel that’s right next to the resort! The Evermore Resort is a billion-dollar luxury resort like no other. So why would you choose to stay here vs. a Disney hotel? Better At Accommodating Large Families If you’re heading to Disney World as a large family or group, instead of having to split between 2-3 different rooms at a Disney resort, you can book one room here. Some accommodations can sleep up to 32 guests! ©Evermore Resort At Disney and other hotels, you may have to request connecting rooms (that may or may not be accommodated, which can be a problem), and then make sure everyone is staying safe in their rooms and getting ready when they should be in the mornings. In one word, we call that stressful. By having everyone in one place, it makes communication much easier! Beaches You Can Lounge On And Swim At Disney’s beaches may be beautiful, but you aren’t allowed to swim in any of the water due to safety concerns. You know what you can do at Evermore Resort? Enjoy 20 acres of beach! ©Evermore Resort For those of you who find the beach to be your home away from home or your true vacation destination, this is the resort for you. At any Disney resort, you’ll find signs up near all the bodies of water saying there’s no swimming allowed, although you can enjoy the sand beaches near select resorts, it won’t be the same as being able to run from the beach to the water and back again as you please. Houses/Villas All To Yourself Evermore Resort isn’t just a hotel — unlike other hotels where you’re sharing walls with all the strangers you could ever imagine, Evermore offers houses and villas that you’ll have all to yourself. ©Evermore Resort In fact, you can CHOOSE between the hotel at Conrad Orlando, Flats (that have 4 bedrooms), Villas (2-4 bedrooms), and Houses (5-11 bedrooms). This is a stark difference not only to Disney hotels, but other hotels all over Orlando where you’ll definitely be sharing walls with your neighbors. 3D Planning Tool Want to avoid everyone fighting over what bedroom will be theirs, or need to make sure you can really see where everyone will go? Evermore Resort has a 3D planning tool for all of their rooms online where you can plan out your ideal floorplan! ©Evermore Resort You can even put people’s names where you’d like them to stay — WILD right?! You’ll also be able to see common room spaces like living rooms, backyards, bathrooms, and more. Tons of Activities Having a massive amount of activities isn’t totally unheard of at Disney hotels, there’s lots to do on your resort day, but the Evermore Resort takes them to the next level. ©Evermore Resort And by next level, we mean you can go kayaking, go golfing on their TWO courses, ride down waterslides, and so much more. The resort also has family activities like movie nights, crafts, and more to keep everyone busy if you’re not in the parks. Cheaper Than Disney For Large Groups As we mentioned earlier, Evermore has large rooms that can fit tons of people (and by tons we mean UP TO 32!). Not only that though, rooms are cheaper than equivalent rooms at Disney World. ©Evermore Resort Evermore is comparable to Disney World Deluxe hotels, the highest tier, which can sometimes be easily over $1,000 a night for rooms that sleep 6-8 guests. But a room at Evermore that sleeps around 8-10 guests evens out to only around $555 a night. Evermore also offers the opportunity to easily split the cost between you and your group members. ©Evermore Resort Will you get Disney magic at Evermore Resort? No, but if you’re traveling with a large group and you don’t mind having to travel into Disney World each day, this resort may actually make your trip easier, less stressful, and cost less than reserving multiple rooms at a Disney hotel would. Two Disney World rides will close THIS WEEK for LONG refurbishments! Disney occasionally has to shut down rides and attractions in order to update them, and although sometimes those closures only last a few days, this time two rides will be closed for multiple months. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Let’s check out all the temporary closures and refurbishments that will affect Disney World from January 7th through the 13th. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster — Temporarily Closing on January 8th Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will close on January 8th, it won’t reopen until the summer of this year. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Although we don’t have an exact reopening date yet, we know that it’ll be at least a few months before the ride reopens. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th. Kali River Rapids — Temporarily Closing on January 8th Kali River Rapids usually closes in January for refurbishment since water rides like this tend to be less popular during the winter months when it’s chilly outside. In 2024, it will close on January 8th. Kali River Rapids Disney has announced that Kali River Rapids will be closed through mid-March, so it sounds like it will be a little over two months before this ride is back up and running. Click here to check out some Disneyland closures, too! These aren’t the only ride and attraction closures affecting Disney World this week. Let’s check out a few more that might affect your vacation. Magic Kingdom Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Splash Mountain closed on January 23rd, 2023, for a long refurbishment. The ride is being re-themed to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, with a Princess and the Frog theme. Adding more yellow flowers The new ride will reopen sometime in late 2024. Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Empty Once in a while, you’ll see the dining rooms open as a rest area, but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates! Is this a Splash Mountain tribute in Magic Kingdom? The Internet can’t decide. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Voyage of the Little Mermaid Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has finally been confirmed. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” Nobody’s talking about this super WEIRD thing that happens at Hollywood Studios! EPCOT Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is still closed in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when it might reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh The restaurant is kind of open right now — it’s functioning as a lounge with just a couple of drink options. However, we’re still waiting for the full restaurant to reopen! A NEW Figment popcorn bucket is coming to EPCOT SOON! Disney World Hotels 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, 1900 Park Fare is a table service restaurant where you could meet characters like Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland at their Supercalifragilistic Breakfast and Cinderella and her Prince Charming during the Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner. 1900 Park Fare They also had a special event for younger children called the Wonderland Tea Party. It’s sad to see a spot closed that had so much character interaction! Disney hasn’t announced a permanent closure, so there is hope for 1900 Park Fare. With 1900 Park Fare closed…you’ll need this SECRET spot to get afternoon tea in Disney World! Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is going to be closed from January 2024 to late March 2024. Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter The Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter will be closed from January 2024 to April 2024. Doubloon Lagoon If you’re staying at this hotel during the pool’s closure, you can still go swimming at the Ol’ Man Island Pool at Port Orleans Riverside. One of Disney World’s biggest hotel perks is back! Disney World Water Parks Typhoon Lagoon Typhoon Lagoon is currently closed in Disney World, and the website does not yet list a reopening date. Typhoon Lagoon Entrance Disney World’s Blizzard Beach Water Park, however, is open! Click here to see the best rides at Blizzard Beach. Okay, you might want to be sitting down for this because we’ve got one of the HOTTEST new souvenirs in Disney World to share with you. We know how much everyone loves Starbucks merchandise Alright, so we know you all love Starbucks merchandise, like the Been There mugs, the Geometric Tumblers, and all the Disney Parks Tumblers. Well, one of the MOST popular Starbucks souvenirs we’ve seen in a while is in Disney World right now, and it is an item that will sell out FAST. Do you remember the famous Magic Kingdom Starbucks Tote that practically EVERYONE owned and wore during the park’s 50th Anniversary celebration? When it first debuted in 2021, it never stayed in stock for long. People hunted this bag down and wore it with pride. It was a big deal — you had to be there. This thing was POPULAR! Well, now there’s a NEW Starbucks Magic Kingdom Tote, and this baby seems to be on everyone’s wish list right now. It has some of our favorite Magic Kingdom icons on it, like Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, Dole Whip, Tinker Bell, the Dapper Dans, and more. Just check it out! New Starbucks Tote Alert! Even the Happily Ever After fireworks and TRON Lightcycle / Run are represented on the bag. SO fun. And can we talk about those contrast tote bag handles? That shade of blue adds the perfect pop of color. All our favorite Magic Kingdom things So where did we find it? Well, we had to hunt it down, but we found it at the Emporium in Magic Kingdom right on Main Street, U.S.A. However, this bag literally sold out WHILE WE WERE TAKING PHOTOS OF IT. Now, we’re guessing more will eventually come back in stock, so if you’re headed to Disney World, keep an eye out so you can grab it the minute you see it! It’s $29.99. The good news is that these souvenirs DO generally get restocked, so more inventory is probably on the way. If all else fails, you can still get your hands on some fun Starbucks Disney World tumblers and mugs, as well as the Arendelle mug that’s also really popular. It’s no secret that one of the most iconic snacks in Disney World is Dole Whip. It’s a CLASSIC! Swirls on the Water Since 1984 (WOW can you believe it’s been that long?), Disney World has been serving up Dole Whips in a variety of flavors, and there is pretty much a flavor for EVERYONE. Of course, we have our favorites (and we bet you have yours). This is also why we LOVE Swirls on the Water in Disney Springs because there is ALWAYS a new Dole Whip snack to try…or even a SAMPLER of Dole Whips. So come with us while we try FIVE Dole Whip snacks for, well, SCIENCE. First, we’re starting with the Dole Whip Sampler, which gives you THREE (count ’em!) samples of Dole Whip combinations for $7.49 (a steal, if you ask us). Look at all those beautiful colors, too! Who’s ready to dive in? Dole Whip Sampler The first combo we sampled was Dole Whip Cherry and Dole Whip Lime with Strawberry Boba Pearls and a Marschino Cherry. This is a winning combo. The cherry is more like a black cherry taste, so you’re getting a hint of bitterness with the kick and tartness of the lime. Cherry and Lime! However, although the description mentions boba pearls, ours didn’t have any, so we’re not sure what happened there. Yum Next up is the Dole Whip Lemon with Pink Cotton Candy Soft-Serve, Lemon Curd, and Cotton Candy. The lemon and cotton candy flavors work surprisingly well together, and we’re surprised at just how good the Cotton Candy Soft Serve really is. However, that particular Soft Serve melts SUPER quickly. Eat fast or bring napkins! Lemon and Cotton Candy The lemon curd adds a nice extra zesty punch to the whole thing. This one is ANOTHER win for us. The lemon curd is SO good The third sample was Dole Whip Pineapple (A CLASSIC) with Vanilla Soft-serve and a Pineapple Wedge. It’s a pretty standard Dole Whip, but if you love a classic Dole Whip, this will please you. Pineapple and Vanilla This one is generally included with all the flights here, probably because it’s a solid choice. A classic! But, hey, we’re just getting started. We’re also trying The Little Mermaid Float for $6.49, which is Dole Whip Cherry and Lime swirled into Sprite with Strawberry Boba Pearls, Rock Candy, Seashells, and an edible Ariel round. The Little Mermaid Float Yes, we’re doing cherry and lime again, and we’re here for it. Again, that hint of bitterness with the tang of the lime is a win-win. Love this flavor combo The addition of the Sprite and Boba Pearls makes it feel almost like a holiday punch drink, and we’re not complaining about it. But we’re STILL not done. We’ve got one more Dole Whip treat to go. This one is the Rapunzel Cone, which we’ve had before, but it’s changed a little bit. Previously, it was made with Dole Whip Lemon and Dole Whip Raspberry swirled in a lavender cone, topped with sugar flowers. Now, it’s made with Dole Whip Lemon swirled with Cotton Candy Soft-serve in a Lavender Cone with Sugar Flowers. 2024 Rapunzel Cone We’ll be honest: we like this version better! The cotton candy flavor really adds some much-needed sweetness to counter the zing of the lemon. It’s a better balance of flavors, in our opinion. Biting into the cone at the top, it tastes like chocolate with standard sprinkles. This is the treat you get when you want to add some new content to your Instagram account because if you’re just after these flavors, they’re also available in the Sampler — minus all these fun decorations. It’s even better now! So there you have it. Five Dole Whips in one day. What were we thinking? But we have ZERO regrets. If any of these sound good, grab them at Swirls on the Water before they change. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! We have reviewed nearly EVERY snack available at Disney World, and we’ve written a series of DFB Guides about them! Check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining + Snacks Bundle for all the details you need to plan your snackin’ and spending. You can even download them to your smartphone – it’ll be like we’re right there with you in the parks! Are you planning a trip to Disney World in 2024? TRON Lighting Lane You’re probably trying to work up your budget if you are, and that might include the price of Genie+ (which is hard to predict because of its surge pricing). You might even have some rides on your priority list that you’re willing to pay EXTRA for with the Individual Lightning Lane. But which rides will even have Individual Lightning Lane in 2024? Here’s what we know. Okay, first, we’re going to break down how Lightning Lanes work. Basically, if you want to skip the standby lines of rides and go in the shorter Lightning Lanes, you’ll need to either purchase Genie+ or the Individual Lightning Lane for that ride. Although Genie+ includes a LOT of rides, some of the more in-demand rides have the Individual Lightning Lane option, which means you have to pay JUST for that ride. ©Disney Are you confused yet? Individual Lightning Lane rides are not included in Genie+, but have their own separate thing, so to speak. You do NOT need to purchase Genie+ to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane because the Individual Lightning Lane is its own thing. Whew…that’s so hard to explain, but we hope you get the gist of it. ©Disney Right now, select rides have the Individual Lightning Lane option, but we think this could change — at least a little — in 2024. So here’s what we think: Magic Kingdom So you can only buy two Individual Lightning Lanes per day in Disney World. Right now, the two rides in Magic Kingdom with the option are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tron Lightcycle / Run. However, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is supposed to open in late 2024, and being that it will be a NEW attraction, we expect it to have both a virtual queue and Individual Lightning Lane option, which is standard for most new Disney World attractions. Construction on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure So what do we think? We think Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will probably move over to become part of Genie+ (meaning you’ll only need to purchase Genie+ to get in the Lightning Lane there), while Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Tron Lightcycle / Run will have the Individual Lightning Lane option. This makes sense because of the three rides, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will be the oldest. The Cheapest Hotel Room You Can Get and Still Walk to Magic Kingdom EPCOT There’s currently only one EPCOT attraction with the Individual Lightning Lane option and that’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This ride is still one of the HOTTEST in Disney World, so we don’t expect demand to die out anytime soon. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind So we’re thinking Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will continue to have the Individual Lightning Lane option. However, you can also still try to grab a spot in the virtual queue for the ride for free. How to Get on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — Tips and Tricks Disney’s Hollywood Studios Like EPCOT, only one ride offers the Individual Lightning Lane option at Disney World. That’s Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. As we expect Disney to keep at least one Individual Lightning Lane option in each park, we don’t expect this to change this year. Rise of the Resistance So expect to continue to pay for that Individual Lightning Lane if you want to get captured by the First Order and rescued by the Resistance. How To Get On Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — Tips and Tricks Disney’s Animal Kingdom Like EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, only one ride in Animal Kingdom offers Individual Lightning Lane, and we’re going to tell you now — you’re going to need it. That ride is Avatar Flight of Passage and it generally has the longest lines in ALL of Disney World. Even on slow days, we’ve seen wait times of HOURS for this ride. This guy is going to put you on the back of a banshee We don’t expect Disney to drop the Individual Lightning Lane option for Flight of Passage anytime soon, so expect to pay for that one separately. Why People Can’t Stop Riding Flight of Passage in Disney World Pricing As far as pricing goes, like Genie+, the cost of the Individual Lightning Lane option depends on demand. In the past we’ve seen the following pricing: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – $10 – $12 per person AVATAR Flight of Passage — $11 – $16 per person Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – $15 – $25 per person Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — $14 – 17 per person TRON Lightcycle / Run — $20 per person TRON Lightcycle / Run We don’t have an idea yet of what Disney might charge for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but we could guess it could be as much as $25 per person, the highest we’ve seen for an Individual Lightning Lane. Read more about Individual Lighting Lane Attraction Selections Of course, things could change (as they often do in Disney World), but given what we know from what Disney has done in the past, we think these are all the rides that will be offered with the Individual Lightning Lane option. If something changes, though, we’ll be sure to let you know, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Tap Point for Lightning Lane entrance for Cosmic Rewind Whew. Ever take an embarrassing amount of photos, only to realize that your finger was blocking a part of the camera lens? That’s the WORST, right? Especially when you’re trying to quickly snap family photos in Disney World before your family runs away (because “the sun is in their eyes” ). If only there was a professional you could ask! Toy Story Land Um, actually, there is! Disney offers a special service called Capture Your Moment, which gets you a 20-minute private photo session with a Disney PhotoPass photographer. It’s not cheap, but if you want quality, professional photos, this might be your best bet. Now, a NEW location has been added to Disney’s Capture Your Moment service — let’s take a look! Back in 2022, Disney announced that its Capture Your Moment service would be added to Hollywood Studios. When the service first launched in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you could choose to have your photo taken at Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake, Sunset Boulevard, or “another beloved spot.” For a while, there was one notable exception — Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was NOT offered as an option. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Well, that rule is finally changing! Beginning January 17th, you can book a 20-minute session to have your photos taken by a PhotoPass Cast Member in Galaxy’s Edge. Photo sessions will be offered daily during regular park hours starting January 24th. You can reserve a session up to 60 days in advance. Disney also shared that a limited number of same-day reservations may be available. You can check the My Disney Experience app during your visit. ©Disney So, what’s included? During your session, a PhotoPass photographer will travel around Galaxy’s Edge with you, taking photos at iconic landmarks like the Millennium Falcon, a First Order Shuttle, the market in Black Spire Outpost, and more. Oh, and you can even snap a few photos with PROPS — like a lightsaber! ©Disney A Capture Your Moment photo session is $99 and can include up to eight people. Note that photos are NOT included with the price of a session. You can purchase Memory Maker separately or opt to purchase photos individually. Annual Passholders with the Disney PhotoPass downloads perk can also receive the photos for free. ©Disney So, who’s ready to dress like a Jedi and go take some pictures? In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. Heads Up! We’re officially a week in to 2024, and in just one week, we’re convinced that this year is going to be a great one in the Disney Parks. Why? Well, we got all sorts of GOOD omens this week. We’re here to spread the good word and tell you why the first week of 2024 was a GREAT one at Disney World. Let’s go! We’ll start off in EPCOT. What do you say? Festival of the Arts Booths Arrived! EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts is one of our most FAVORITE festivals of all. We adore all the color and cheer that it brings to the parks. Oh, and of course, the FOOD. We won’t lie — when we took the high-speed Brightline train from Orlando International Airport to Miami, it was a game-changer for us. Brightline train Imagine being able to get to some MAJOR cities in Florida without the hassle of driving OR flying. That means no traffic AND no hassle at the airport. Brightline is certainly trying to make that a reality, and it seems its next step could be a new route to Tampa. A new bill has just been introduced suggesting a Brightline route to Tampa. According to Fox35, a proposal has been filed by Florida Senate Transportation Chair Nick DiCeglie, requiring the Florida Department of Transportation to save a 44-foot-wide rail corridor along the I-4 corridor. This land would be used for a Brightline train from Orlando to Tampa. ©Brightline Under the proposal, the department would also have to consider infrastructure, including how bridge columns are spaced, as well as barriers that would separate the land set aside for the railway from the interstate. But it does seem like Florida is taking the next step forward in expanding Brightline’s service in the state. Miami Brightline Station Since the Miami to Orlando route opened, Brightline has continued to add more service between the two cities throughout the day. Brightline also recently announced plans to take its service to the West Coast with plans to connect Los Angeles to Las Vegas with high-speed rail. ©Brightline Although plans for a train station in Disney Springs on the Miami to Orlando route were scrapped, an alternative station NEAR Disney Springs is still being considered. A public input session was recently held with communities who might be affected by this new station and route, meaning that it could still move forward. Overall, most of the public feedback was positive. Onboard a Brightline train If you do plan on taking the Brightline train to Orlando International Airport and are traveling to Disney World, you will still need to make arrangements to get to the Disney World Resort from the airport. There are numerous options, though, including rideshare services and the shared shuttle service Mears Connect Driven By Sunshine. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more Brightline news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. It’s weird that we talk about drinkware as much as we do on this blog, but hey, it’s all part of the job. EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion From recommending water bottles for Disney World to showcasing the latest souvenir sipper cups and Starbucks tumblers, drinkware is pretty popular. Now there’s a NEW souvenir cup to tell you about in Disney World — that this one is a gorgeous beer stein! If you’ve ever visited the Germany Pavilion in EPCOT, you may know that sometimes you can find beautiful souvenir steins at the beer and snack spots. Well, a NEW stein is now available, and it’s GORGEOUS. It looks like a traditional German stein you might find in…well…Germany! LOVE it! This stein has some things you might recognize right from EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion. Oh, and does that shape at the top look familiar? It’s a Mickey pretzel. We obviously approve of Disney food in the design. The phrase “Herzlich Willkommen” is on the front, which translates to something like “warm welcome.” Under that, it says “Germany.” The bottom has the EPCOT logo with “World Showcase” written around it. See the Mickey pretzel? The lid is designed to look like the Germany Pavilion’s clock tower. We LOVE all these little details. The top If you want to pick one up for yourself, you can find it in the Germany Pavilion at the Sommerfest, the Pretzel Cart, or Bierline. It comes with the choice of three different beers: Beck’s Pilsner for $19, Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen for $20.25, or Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen, or Warsteiner Dunkel for $20.75. If you do happen to visit Sommerfest, be sure to order the Pretzel Bread Pudding (you can thank us later). You can also grab a traditional Bratwurst there, too! We’ll keep an eye out for more fun and unique souvenirs in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Planning to pick this up in Disney World soon? The day has finally come when a popular Disney show is saying farewell. “it’s a small world” Disneyland Change is inevitable at the Disney Parks and Disneyland is no exception. Amid rumors of Disneyland expansion, the Anaheim-based park is about to close a popular experience for good. That’s right, “Tale of the Lion King” is ending after its final show tomorrow. “Tale of the Lion King” was confirmed to end its run on January 7th, 2024 last year by Disney after nearly two years of production at the Fantasyland Theatre between Mickey’s Toontown and “it’s a small world”. Tale of the Lion King The Disneyland show is/was a theater adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King (1994) performed by “The Storytellers of the Pride Lands.” The show hasn’t always been in its current form, as it premiered in 2019 at the Palisades Stage over at Disney California Adventure. However, in 2022 it moved over to Disneyland and featured new scenes, costume designs, music, and choreography that was inspired by the African roots of The Lion King. “Tale of the Lion King” when it was in Disney California Adventure If you want to see this show on its final day, you can stop by the physical theatre in Fantasyland or check the Disneyland app for showtimes. As of now, no permanent replacement has been made public for the theatre (the space will temporarily be used for “Celebrate Gospel” on February 17th and 24th, 2024). We’ll let you know when Disneyland announces future plans. Celebrate Gospel We’re sad to see this show go but still excited to see what Disneyland brings us next! The past 25 years have turned up a LOT of interesting trends. ©Google It’s probably no secret that a lot of people are hitting up Google to search for things like Stanley Cups, Taylor Swift, and Barbie — just in 2023. But it might surprise you that some of your favorite celebrities have been searched so often that they’ve literally made Internet history. So, believe it or not, Google first opened its doors to the world 25 years ago. To celebrate, Google released its top searches for 2023 but also unveiled a video looking back over searches that have taken place throughout the past 25 years. That is a LOT of searches. For example, the most searched decade is the 80s, while the most searched toy is…you guessed it…Barbie! ©WB But what’s the most searched Movie Cast of the past 25 years? Well, that honor goes to the cast of the Harry Potter movies, which means the stars of the film franchise have made Internet history! Yes, there have been more searches for actors Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Rupert Grint, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, and other members of the Harry Potter cast than for any other movie cast IN history. ©WB If you’re curious about other Internet searches throughout history, the most searched songwriter in 25 years is Taylor Swift (are you surprised?). The most searched cartoon is Spongebob Squarepants. Marvel’s Spider-Man is the most searched superhero (go Spidey!). Curious for more? Watch the full video below. We like to keep an eye on Google Trends, too, and we’ll let you know when we spot anything interesting when we see it. So stay tuned to DFB for more. Happy 25 Years, Google! Are you ready for it? Magic Kingdom It’s not every day we see celebrities walking amongst us non-multi-millionaires — especially in Disney World. For one thing, celebrities are often hidden by an entourage of bodyguards and Cast Members clad in plaid. And, of course, celebrities are busy people! Singers like Harry Styles and actors like Margot Robbie are too busy performing to take a weeklong trip to Disney World, right? Well, even celebs have days off. Especially if they’re visiting a loved one… OK, Swifties. Stay with us for a second. We’ve masterminded a scenario in which Taylor Swift could find herself INSIDE Disney World verrrry soon. What if we told you none of it was accidental, and it was all by design? ©TIME Here’s the situation. On February 4th, 2024, Travis Kelce will be in Orlando for the 2024 Pro Bowl. The NFL recently announced the full rosters for the Pro Bowl, and Travis Kelce, who happens to be dating Taylor Swift, will be in the game. For all you non-sports fans, the NFL touts the Pro Bowl as “a week-long celebration of player skills featuring an exciting new format that spotlights flag football.” ©NFL The event consists of a multi-day AFC vs. NFC competition, with the big game on Sunday, February 4th, 2024 at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Now, let’s put those puzzle pieces together, people. Travis Kelce, Orlando, (possibly) Taylor Swift, a multi-day event in sunny Florida…what are we thinking? Are we thinking this seems like the perfect opportunity for Taylor Swift to take a little trip to Disney World with her boyfriend? Yes, yes, we are. ©Getty Images Look at this! It’s a short 24 to 26-minute drive to Disney World from the stadium. Kelce can rope-drop Magic Kingdom, grab a Mickey bar, and be over to the stadium in no time! He seems like the type of guy that would enjoy a pair of Mickey ears and a churro, right? And wouldn’t Taylor look great in a matching pair of Minnie ears? ©Google Maps Of course, we’re just speculating here. But hey, if WE were rich and famous celebrities headed to Orlando, you might find us at the Grand Suite at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort…just saying. If you happen to be in Disney World during the Pro Bowl Games, keep your eyes peeled for Cast Members in plaid costumes and big, strong men who look like football players. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
