Are you ready for it?! Disneyland crowds It has been four months since Disneyland Resort put a pause on sales of new annual passes — called Magic Key Passes, but all of that ends tomorrow! It has been difficult for Disneyland fans to get their hands on Magic Key Passes lately! For the past couple of years, Disney has put them on sale a few times, and then paused sales again. Sales of all four types of Magic Key Passes have currently been paused since Sept. 8th, 2023. But Disney has announced that NEW Magic Key Passes will go on sale on January 10th, 2024! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland Sales of Magic Key Passes will start no earlier than 9AM Pacific Time on January 10th, on the Disneyland website. Here’s the pricing for the four levels of passes: Inspire: $1649 Believe: $1249 Enchant: $849 Imagine: $499 Disney California Adventure If you’re planning to buy a Magic Key, we suggest that you log into your Disneyland account now (or create one), to be sure you know have the correct login and password, and that all of your personal details in your account are up-to-date. As we’ve said, these passes DO sell out, so it’s best to get things in order and get online early. There will likely be an online waiting room before you can complete your transaction — don’t close your browser window while you’re in the waiting room, or you will have to go “to the back of the line” again. ©Disney Hopefully you will be able to get the Magic Key pass you want! Magic Kingdom is getting a BIG expansion, and Disney keeps teasing us with little updates and new details! Cinderella Castle In case you haven’t heard, Disney has teased a HUGE expansion for Magic Kingdom, repeatedly stating that something new is coming “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” At the 2022 D23 Expo, we heard about possible Coco, Encanto, and Disney villains-themed lands. Now, Disney has dropped another mysterious hint about this huge update! Hidden at the end of Disney’s recent announcement about the new Country Bear Jamboree show was this update: “But hold your horses, we’re not done yet. We have a lot of growth and investment planned for our theme parks in the coming years and look forward to sharing more announcements about Frontierland … so y’all come back now, ya hear?” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad How mysterious! C’mon, Disney — couldn’t we get a little more detail? For now, we’ll just have to use our imagination and look back at some other updates we’ve heard about this major expansion. Frontierland sign During the 2022 D23 Expo, Disney leaders tossed around some “what if” ideas about the possible new themed areas in Magic Kingdom. Jennifer Lee said, “What if you could walk into the Madrigals’ casita…What if Mirabel is your guide…What if you could step up to a door and discover your own magical gift?” Concept art of potential Magic Kingdom expansion Then, during the 2023 Destination D23 event, Josh D’Amaro (Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman) and Bruce Vaughn (Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Imagineering) dropped more hints during the Disney Parks panel. Potential Coco Area in Magic Kingdom Bruce Vaughn said that the future expansion plans for Magic Kingdom are the “largest ever” for the park. He reiterated that Imagineers are looking to tell stories “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” Big Thunder Apparently these stories will be told on a scale similar to things like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora – The World of Avatar, including the addition of new attractions, restaurants, shows, and more! That means BIG changes for the iconic Disney World park. ©Disney Disney has stated that they’re looking to invest a LOT into their parks. In fact, they’ve announced that they’re going to invest about $60 BILLION in the Parks, Experiences, and Products segment of the company over the next 10 years. Part of that budget could include the Magic Kingdom expansion! ©Disney We’ll keep watching for more updates from Disney, so stay tuned to DFB! The new show will include easter eggs throughout that nod to the previous show. You can see Henry in his new outfit in the photo below! ©Disney The new show will include easter eggs throughout that nod to the previous show, and the bears will be singing new, reinterpreted Disney songs in various country music genres. Country Bear Jamboree The updated show will be a take on the classic variety shows found in Nashville, Tennessee, and Nashville musicians are involved in the new arrangements. We do know we’ll be seeing a new version of “Bare Necessities“ in a rockabilly style! Check out this behind-the-scenes video of Disney Cast Members recording some of the music: A Disney Imagineer has said, “The music is going to be amazing, and the show will still have the fun and friendly tone that we all love about the Country Bears.” Country Bear Jamboree! Country Bear Jamboree is located in Frontierland. It’s a “country-and-western musical revue” performed by animatronic bears. Disney explains, “When the [new] show debuts, the bears will be reinterpreting favorite Disney songs in different genres of country music. Imagineers are envisioning the new experience as a homage to the classic musical revues in Nashville, and they’re working with Nashville musicians to get the authentic country sound.” Country Bear Jamboree This is one of the last attractions that Walt Disney was personally involved in creating, and it’s been part of Magic Kingdom since 1971. Rest assured, some of your favorite characters will be returning, like Trixie, Big Al, and others. Country Bears in Frontierland Are you planning a 2024 Disney World trip? Unrestricted park hopping is BACK at Disney World, and with that comes a few updates. Disney bus Beginning January 9th, 2024, park hopping at Disney World is no longer restricted to a 2PM starting window, meaning you can park hop immediately after visiting your first park (which also no longer requires a reservation for date-based tickets). So how does this affect transportation to and from the Disney World parks, specifically the bus schedule? We have the details! According to a Cast Member at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, park-to-park bus routes will commence at 10AM each day. Bus transportation at Disney World This report is verified by Disney World, which posted on its website: “Bus transportation is now available between the theme parks beginning at 10:00 AM each day. Guests may also take the monorail when traveling between Magic Kingdom park and EPCOT. Bus services are not available from Magic Kingdom park to EPCOT at this time.” Disney bus In addition to bus and monorail transportation, Disney World guests will still have access to the Disney Skyliner as well as water transportation to aid in traveling between the parks as well as visiting the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney World is changing things up on us AGAIN — but don’t worry because we’re bringing you all the news and tips you need to know before your next trip! Sunset Boulevard Now that park pass reservations have gone away for most guests, there are new rules to follow when it comes to Virtual Queues. We’ve gone over the changes in a few different posts, but now we’re putting words into action. Come with us to test the NEW virtual queue rules in Disney World. What is a Virtual Queue? Virtual Queues are free reservations that allow you to join the standby line for attractions without having to purchase an individual lightning lane to ride. As of this writing, there are two rides with virtual queues at Disney World — TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. TRON Lightcycle / Run There are certain times of day when the virtual queues open. At those times, you join the queue through the My Disney Experience app. And then, you wait — without getting in line! You can be doing other things around the parks while you wait in line virtually. Once your turn to join the actual line is “called” you’ll be notified in the My Disney Experience app with a time window for arrival. TRON Lighting Lane Prior to the January 9th changes, those who were looking to ride either of these attractions needed to make a park pass reservation for the preferred attraction’s respective park for the morning and then attempt to secure a virtual queue to ride on the app starting at 7AM. If you had a park reservation for EPCOT, you could only try to get a virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy — you couldn’t try to get a virtual queue for TRON in Magic Kingdom, and vice versa. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind This process allowed you to only have to vie against those who were signed up to visit the same park that morning. Additionally, you could make a second attempt in the park after you had scanned in to visit for the day at 1PM, but again, only if you had already scanned into the park. What are the new rules? Since park pass reservations have now gone away for day visitors and select ticket holders, you will be able to try for either ride’s virtual queue! So, if you’re planning to go to Magic Kingdom be on your phone, ready to snag that TRON virtual queue reservation right when they open up at 7AM. But if it’s sold out before you can grab one… TRON Lightcycle / Run …you could jump over to Guardians of the Galaxy screen and try for a virtual queue for it instead — because you can just change your plan and go to EPCOT on that day if you get one. You don’t have to worry that you don’t have a park reservation for EPCOT anymore. Essentially, you’ll have two chances to score a morning virtual queue instead of one. However, you cannot hold two virtual queues at once. So if you get a TRON boarding group, you can not go get a Guardians of the Galaxy one, too. Our experience We decided to test this out, so we hopped into the Disney World app right at 7AM this morning! We checked both virtual queues to see if one or both would still be open seconds after the drop, and it turned out they were. Screenshot of My Disney Experience Both options were available for longer than we expected! We thought that since every Disney World guest would have access to selecting them (not just people going to those specific parks with reservations), that they would sell out way faster than they did. It wasn’t until 7:38AM that we noticed TRON had finally sold out. Screenshot of My Disney Experience However, at that same time, 7:38AM, Guardians of the Galaxy was still available! Screenshot of My Disney Experience Interestingly, in the afternoon we saw the exact opposite. We checked the virtual queues around 2:20PM and saw that TRON still hadn’t sold out after the 1PM drop. Screenshot of My Disney Experience But at that time Guardians of the Galaxy was all out. Screenshot of My Disney Experience While they lasted quite a while after the drops, our suggestion would be to not take chances if you really want to grab a virtual queue for one of these two rides. The earlier you’re on the app and ready to join the queue the better chances you have of actually getting one. The way they sell out could depend on the day and the crowds. We hope this helps you with this new process! Stay tuned to DFB as we bring you more updates and changes from Disney World in 2024! We’ve recently just found out! According to Variety, season 2 of the show Ahsoka is officially happening! Ahsoka made her appearance in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett before actress Rosario Dawson starred in her own show, and now she will be back for more adventures. ©Disney The show brought several well-known characters from the animated series Star Wars Rebels to the live-action world to battle Grand Admiral Thrawn. Calling all Stitch lovers! Hey Stitch! Now is your time to SHINE! Disney has released a brand new merch line featuring your favorite friendly alien, and we are SO excited about it. This is 2024’s newest ‘series’ merch release, so let’s take a look at what is available to you RIGHT NOW! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. We have seen a few different merchandise series from Disney throughout the years. Usually, they will choose one character or theme and release some limited-edition merch featuring that character and another subject of their choice. We know that can be hard to follow, so we’ll give you some examples. In the past, we’ve seen a lot of ‘Main Attraction’ series, which featured either a Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse plush (depending on the year) that is themed to a different popular attraction at Magic Kingdom. For example, there was a Jungle Cruise Mickey plush and a Haunted Mansion Minnie plush. This series also included other items themed to the attraction of the month. We typically saw Loungefly mini backpacks, Minnie ears as well as some other merchandise. Mickey Mouse: The Main Attraction This year, they changed it up and are giving us a series based on a fan-favorite character — Stitch! This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Stitch featured in one of these collections. In 2021, we saw the Stitch Crashes Disney collection — where we saw him “crashing” different classic Disney films! Stitch That brings us to 2024, where we are FINALLY getting another series collection based on Stitch. The first series’ items are officially released on shopDisney, and it is making us SO excited for what is to come for this collection. It’s Stitch! This collection is lovingly called Stitch Attacks Snacks! This series will feature Stitch with a new snack EVERY MONTH. His first stop was a snack cart at Magic Kingdom — and we are in full support of what he chose (we would’ve chosen it, too). Get the Stitch Attacks Snacks Pretzel Plush ©shopDisney This plush shows off Stitch with his FIRST SNACK of 2024 — A Mickey Pretzel! He looks just as excited as we did the first time we got our hands on one of those classic Disney World snacks. We do have one BIG question for him… does he dip in plastic cheese? Shop on shopDisney Get the Stitch Attacks Snacks Pretzel Pin Set ©shopDisney We’re getting more than a plush with this collection — we’re getting a NEW set of pins as well! We get to see Stitch and Angel dining together on their Mickey pretzels. We feel like Angel is side-eyeing Stitch — do you think he took a piece of her pretzel? Shop on shopDisney! We’re in love with this collection and we can’t wait to see where Stitch’s snack attack journey is going to take us. We’ll keep checking in for the new items monthly. Sometimes, the unexpected can throw a wrench in your Disney World plans. Fantasyland Today, bad weather has hit the parks. You’re on your 2024 Disney World trip and the question comes up: What are we having for lunch? Totchos If you’re at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll be faced with over 30 options to choose from between the food carts at one end, all the way up to the signature dining restaurants at the other end. Also, with how expensive things can quickly become, we thought we’d lend a hand and show you some options for the cheapest lunch options you’ll find at Hollywood Studios! Honestly, we were surprised when we started looking for cheap lunches! There are plenty of meals available in Disney’s Hollywood Studios for around the price of a combo at a fast food drive-thru elsewhere! Remember that you can ask for a free cup of ice water to save several dollars over buying a fountain drink with lunch. When thinking about how to save the most and still have a good meal, our minds go to a place you might not have thought about before. We’re talking about ordering from the Kids’ menu. I know that not everyone will go for them, but they really are a good portion of food for the price — and a drink is included! You can generally order a kids meal at quick-service restaurants in Disney World without question — and you can always use mobile order (the system that lets you order and pay at many Disney World quick-service restaurants through the My Disney Experience app) to get one. Kids’ Menu The cheapest meals you can find on the “Kids’” menu are under $7. Here are the options: Woody’s Lunch Box: Grilled Cheese: half-sandwich with melted provolone, cheddar, and American on grilled sourdough bread served with Cuties Mandarin, potato barrels, and your choice of beverage. – $6.99 Grilled Cheese from Woody’s Lunch Box Backlot Express: Macaroni & Cheese: served with strawberry-flavored yogurt smoothie, carrot sticks, and a choice of small low-fat milk or small DASANI bottled water. – $6.99 PizzeRizzo: Mini Chicken Sub: served with Strawberry-flavored Yogurt Smoothie, a Cuties Mandarin, and a choice of small low-fat milk or Small DASANI bottled water. – $6.99 Mini Chicken Sub Now, if ordering from the Kids’ Menu isn’t your cup of tea, no problem. You can still find good meals at a reasonable price. Adult Menu The cheapest meals you can find on the “Adults’” menu are all under $11. Here are the options: Backlot Express: Chicken Strips: served with French Fries. – $10.99 Chicken Strips and Fries at Backlot Express ABC Commissary: Mediterranean Salad: served with Mixed Greens with Tomatoes, Cucumber, Pepperoncini, Kalamata Olives, and Feta tossed in a Mediterranean Vinaigrette served with Hummus and Grilled Flatbread – $10.79 That is one GOOD lookin’ salad. Dockside Diner: All-Beef Quarter-pound Hot Dog on a Brioche Butter Bun: served with House-made Chips – $10.79 Bacon Macaroni & Cheese: served with Beer Cheese, Bacon, and topped with Bread Crumbs – $10.49 Dockside Diner Fairfax Fare: Bacon Macaroni & Cheese: served with Beer Cheese, Bacon, and topped with Bread Crumbs – $10.49 Bacon Mac and Cheese PizzeRizzo: Meatball Sub: Hoagie Roll stuffed with Seasoned Meatballs and smothered in Marinara Sauce and Provolone served with a choice of Side – $10.99 Plant-Based Spicy Italian “Sausage” Sub: Oven-roasted Sweet Bell Peppers, Savory Onions, and Mushroom Medley with Marinara Sauce served with choice of Side – $10.79 Spicy Italian “Sausage” Sub at PizzeRizzo Rosie’s All-American Café: Chicken Breast Nuggets (8 pieces): served with French Fries. – $10.99 Plant-based Lobster Roll: Marinated Hearts of Palm, Celery, Sweet Apples, and Creamy Old Bay Dressing served with House-made Crispy Potato Chips – $10.49 “Lobster” Roll Woody’s Lunch Box: Smoked Turkey Sandwich: thick-sliced smoked turkey breast, lettuce, and tomato with dijonnaise spread served chilled on multigrain. – $10.79 Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich: melted provolone, cheddar, and American on grilled sourdough bread. – $10.29 Totchos: potato barrels coated with beef and bean chili, shredded cheese, and signature queso with tomatoes and corn chips finished with sour cream and a sprinkle of green onions (plant-based option). – $10.49 “Totchos” Hopefully, now you have a couple of options that will get you a good meal for a decent price and get you through the rest of your park day! Disney World has recently rolled out some HUGE changes. Not only is the Disney Dining Plan back, but Park Pass Reservations are no longer required for most Disney World guests. On top of that, Park Hopping rules have changed once again and park hopping is back to the way it was pre COVID. It’s a day to celebrate! We know that this is a lot to digest and the last thing you want to be worried about on your trip is if you know all the rules. So we are here to help! So, what is Park Hopping you ask? Well, it is the ability to visit more than one Disney World theme park in a single day. If you wanted to, you could visit all four parks with a valid Park Hopper ticket. Since Disney World reopened after COVID shut down the parks in 2020, a restriction was put on park hopping that only allowed you to hop to another park after 2PM. Now that has changed. No More Restrictions On When You Can Park Hop As of January 9, 2024, guests with valid admission can now hop at ANY time! This means that you can have a reservation in Magic Kingdom in the morning and then instantly hop over to say EPCOT to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind right after. No more waiting for the clock to strike 2! Just hop at your hearts content. All 4 parks by 9:30AM! With this new freedom and the fact that park passes are no longer needed for guests with a park hopper ticket, there is so much more flexibility with a Disney World trip. It will now be easier to change your mind, plans, and to go with the flow! Buses Start Running at 10AM The parks typically open anywhere from 7-8AM but as of now, buses between the parks will not start running until 10AM. If you are wanting to hop before 10AM, you may need to look at other transportation options like the Skyliner, the monorail, or a paid service like Uber. Disney Bus There is no bus between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT right now. If you are looking to hop between these two parks, the monorail is available! These are the three times you still need a park pass reservation in Disney World! Annual Passholders Are at a Disadvantage On most days (other than good to go days and after 2PM) Annual Passholders still need a Park Pass Reservation. Due to this, there are restrictions on Genie+ reservations and Individual Lightning Lanes. If you haven’t scanned in to the park that you have a reservation for and you are trying to make a Genie+ reservation for an attraction that is in a different park than your park pass reservation, you will not see times listed until after 2PM. So cute This does go away after Annual Passholders scan into the park that they have a reservation for. So once you scan into the park you will see earlier times available. The problem is if an Annual Passholder was hoping to get an EARLY Genie+ reservation or Individual Lightning Lane in a park that is different from the one they have a park pass reservation for since those might fill up before the Passholder arrives at their first park and scans in. Read more about this new disadvantage for Annual Passholders here. Important Details There is some important information to note: Guests need to have a valid ticket or Annual Pass with Park Hopping capabilities. You can learn all about the ticket options with Park Hopping — including pricing to add Park Hopping, which varies by date — on our Walt Disney World Tickets page. The Walt Disney World Resort is about 43 square miles, and it’s going to take some time to get around. If you are park hopping because you have a Dining Reservation or a Lightning Lane reserved, be sure you are allowing yourself enough time to get between parks, get in the gate, and walk to your destination. A general rule of thumb is to allow at least an hour to “hop”. Genie+ Theme park reservations may be required for Annual Passholders and guests with certain non-dated tickets to enter their first park. But after a guest enters their first park (the one they had the reservation for), they will be able to visit another theme park. The Disney Genie service made its debut on October 1, 2021. Disney Genie+ provides an optional paid service in addition to the standard Disney Genie. Disney Genie+ allows guests to bypass standby lines and enter the Lightning Lane (previously known as the FastPass line) at over 50 select attractions across Disney World by paying a base price starting at $15 per day, per ticket. Disney Genie+ works with Park Hopping, AND Individual Lightning Lane Attraction Selection, so guests who purchase either service are NOT limited to one park per day. Guests may buy either a single-park Genie+ option or a multi-park option (to accommodate Park Hopping) as seen below. You can learn more HERE. Read MORE about Park Hopping in Disney World here! Well, the day has finally come! The Disney Dining Plan has returned to Disney World! Breakfast at Cape May With this plan, you can basically pre-pay for ALL your meals so that when you get to Disney World, all you have to worry about is where to eat. But if you’ve used the dining plan BEFORE 2020, you might not know that it’s a bit different now than it was then. We’re using the Disney Dining Plan RIGHT NOW and we’re going to give you all the DETAILS on how it has changed in 2024. So here’s how the Disney Dining Plan is different in 2024 than it was in 2020 There are fewer plans to choose from. The last time the dining plan was available, guests had a choice of four different plans: the Quick Service Plan (for dining only at quick service restaurants), the Basic/Standard Dining Plan (for a mix of dining at quick service and table service), the Disney Dining Plan Plus (which offered two meals a day wherever, as well as two snacks), and the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan (which included three meals a day plus two snacks). Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Well, now only two options are available. Guests can choose between the Quick-Service Plan (which offers 2 quick service meals, one snack, and a resort refillable mug) and the Basic/Standard Dining Plan (one quick service meal, one table service meal, one snack, and a resort refillable mug). Get full details on both plans The price has increased. Another thing that has changed is the price. In 2020, the price for the quick service meal was $55.00 per night per adult and $26.00 per night per child age 3-9. In 2024, the price is $57.01 per night per adult and $23.83 per night per child age 3-9. Geyser Point food The price for the Basic Dining Plan in 2020 was $78.01 per night per adult and $30.51 per night per child age 3-9. Now, it’s $94.28 per night per adult and $29.69 per night per child age 3-9. FULL LIST of Table-Service Disney Dining Plan Restaurants Announced for Disney World You can’t convert snack credits. The rules about using Snack Credits have also changed. In the past, you could alter the credit system. So if you wanted to snack around a park instead of having a quick service meal, you could convert one quick service meal credit into three snack credits. You can’t convert credits anymore However, in 2024, this conversion is no longer allowed. Disney has confirmed that you will now have to use snack credits and meal credits exclusively on what they were originally intended for. In the parks today, we’ve seen what could be considered some variations on this rule. L’Artisan des Glaces For example, at L’Artisan des Glaces in EPCOT, Cast Members showed us a chart that indicated that three “snack” selections off the menu there — items such as a single or double scoop of gelato, a macaron, or a croque glaces — could be combined to count as a quick-service meal credit. (Would it be like eating a bunch of dessert for dinner? YES. Would we do it? YES.) More about this rule change But it appears you can convert Table Service credits. We confirmed with Disney World Cast Member today that we could convert a table-service meal credit into a quick-service meal credit. Harvest Feast at Garden Grill Now, do we advise doing this? Absolutely not. That table-service credit is worth more money than a quick-service meal, and you pre-paid for it. BUT, if your plans change and you need to do this — know that you can. Festival dining packages could be a better deal now. If you’re booking a dining package for EPCOT festival entertainment, the credits you use per dining package will vary depending on the restaurant. So if you choose a dining package at Biergarten, you’ll only spend one credit. However, a Le Cellier restaurant will require two credits. Dining package entrance for EPCOT Festival of the Holidays’ Candlelight Processional Previously, all festival dining packages required two credits, so this could be good news for those dining at one credit restaurants as part of a dining package. More details about this change Character dining can cost more credits now. Previously, the only restaurant in Disney World that offered character dining that required two table service credits was Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom. Well, in 2024, that has changed and in addition to Cinderella’s Royal Table, two other character dining experiences now cost two credits. Aurora at Cinderella’s Royal Table Now, you’ll also have to spend two table service credits at Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. EVERY Disney World Character Dining Meal Ranked from WORST to BEST Fantasmic! dining package changes might be a better deal. There have also been some changes to Fantasmic! dining package changes. Previously, you needed two table service credits for all Fantasmic! dining packages, regardless of where you eat. However, like with the festival dining packages, this is now dependent on the restaurant you choose. Fantasmic! You’ll only need to spend one credit to get a Fantasmic! dining package at 50’s Prime Time Cafe, Hollywood & Vine, Mama Melrose’s, and Sci-Fi Dine In. However, the dining package at Hollywood Brown Derby will remain at two credits. More about this change So if you’ve had the dining plan in the past, you’ll need to know that it has changed if you’re considering purchasing it again. We’ll keep an eye out for more changes we find about how the dining plan now works in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Park Hopping rules have CHANGED, and we’re taking FULL advantage of the updated system! Magic Kingdom Starting on January 9th, 2024, the 2PM Park Hopping restriction is GONE. If you have an Annual Pass or Park Hopper ticket, you can now hop at ANY TIME! We tested out this update by going to every single Disney World theme park this morning, and we accomplished this feat in just over an hour! Park Hopping is the ability to visit more than one of the Walt Disney World theme parks — Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom — in one day. Magic Kingdom Note that, in order to Park Hop, you MUST have a valid theme park ticket that includes Park Hopper benefits or a Disney World Annual Pass. A standard one-park-per-day ticket will not grant this option. Scanning in! After the pandemic-related closures of 2020, Disney World changed Park Hopping rules. Guests were only allowed to Park Hop after 2PM each day. Last year, Disney announced that this restriction would be going away on January 9th, 2024, and now it’s officially GONE! Let’s PARK HOP, BABY! We started out our journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, since that park opens the earliest. First park of the day! Shortly after arriving (and getting our pic for proof), we headed over to Hollywood Studios right when the park opened at 9AM! Park 2 by 9AM! By 9:15, we had made it to EPCOT. Quick turnaround, right? The Disney Skyliner makes that trip super easy and fast! Park 3! Now time for the last leg of our journey — we took the Monorail over to Magic Kingdom and were in the park by 9:34AM. All 4 parks by 9:30AM! In total, the whole thing took us just over an hour, at 63 minutes and 4 seconds! Did we just break a record? Of course, we had to treat ourselves to an “I’m Celebrating” button for this momentous occasion! It’s a day to celebrate! So if you want to park hop to every single park in Disney World, it’s absolutely doable in a single day. If you try to do it all in an hour, you probably won’t see much (we pretty much just hopped into the entrance and came back out again), but it’s fun that we have that option now. Hollywood Studios If you’re planning to park hop in Disney World, make sure to take transportation into account. We were able to get between Hollywood Studios and EPCOT quickly because we used the Skyliner, and from EPCOT to Magic Kingdom because of the Monorail! Monorail A Cast Member at Disney’s Hollywood Studios told us that buses to the other theme parks will begin at 10AM each day, but note that park-to-park bus service has been occasional at best in the past. Usually you have to find another way to get between the parks if there isn’t a Skyliner or Monorail route. Disney bus If we’re trying to get from Magic Kingdom to one of the other three parks (besides EPCOT, which we’d use the Monorail for), we’ll walk over to Disney’s Contemporary Resort and catch a bus from there. To get to EPCOT from any other park, you can take a bus to one of the EPCOT-area hotels and walk to the International Gateway! International Gateway Also, keep in mind that, even though Annual Passholders can park hop at any time, they must enter the theme park that they have a Park Pass Reservation for FIRST before being able to hop. Note that this rule affects how Annual Passholders can reserve Lightning Lanes with Genie+ — get all the details about that HERE. Annual Pass card Annual Passholders can still enter any park after 2PM without a Park Pass Reservation, except for Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays. Okay, everyone stay calm. It’s really happening! The day we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived! Donald is ready to park hop! It’s January 9th and that means that a LOT of changes are happening in Disney World today. First, we can enter the parks without making a park pass reservation (at least most of us can). Oh, Happy Day! But all-day park hopping has also returned and we’re going to park hop ALL day. PLUS the Disney Dining Plan has officially returned and we’re ready to give it a good test drive. So hang out with us while we take on all these Disney World changes today. There have been a lot of changes in Disney World! If you don’t want to go through all the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone, we have a solution! Reach out to our friends at Small World Vacations. Their experienced agents monitor your reservation for possible future savings, compare discounts, and determine which works best for your travel party, dates, resort, and touring plans. They even share expert tips and first-hand advice with you. Park Pass Reservations We’ll admit, after three years, we were a little nervous (but also excited) to enter our first park today, without having first made a park pass reservation. Will this actually work? Are park pass reservations really gone? Or is Disney punking us? We scanned into our first park of the day, Magic Kingdom! Magic Kingdom We noticed that the park wasn’t too busy today. There is the potential for some ugly weather today, so perhaps that made a difference. But for such a big day, there weren’t many people. It was very easy to enter the park without needing a reservation (we forgot what that feels like)! Pretty low crowds! Okay, well, that was easy. Excuse us while we let out the breath we’ve been holding because we never thought we’d see this day. Note that some Disney World visitors still need to make park pass reservations, though. Anyone who does not have a date-based ticket (including Cast Members, those who get tickets through conventions or as part of student groups, etc.) will still have to make a park pass reservation for the first park they plan on visiting that day. EVERYTHING is changing today Annual Passholders also still need to make park pass reservations, except on their “good to go” days, which are days Disney specifies that no reservations are required. Disney Dining Plan Today also marks the return of the Disney Dining Plan, which is basically a way for Disney World visitors to pre-pay for their food. You can learn all about it here. So with its return, we are a little worried about how busy some restaurants may get during the day. Right away this morning, we tested out Mobile Ordering a snack using the dining plan. It was a pretty simple experience! The dining plan with Mobile Order works well! You can choose to use your dining plan or not to if you decide to pay for something extra that’s not included with your plan or outside your daily limit. If you DON’T want to use your DDP credits, you can update your order We did notice some treats are not going to be eligible as snacks for the Disney Dining Plan in Magic Kingdom. We confirmed with a Cast Member that our beloved Tropical Serenade DOLE Whip at Aloha Isle will NOT count as a snack, so if you want to get that in Magic Kingdom, you’ll just have to pay for it. No DDP here! If you want to use your dining plan to purchase a snack, be sure to check for the DDP symbols or ask a Cast Member which items count as snacks at that restaurant. And for a FULL LIST of restaurants that are participating in the Disney Dining Plan, click here! Watch for the little symbols on the menus or signs to know if you can use your DDP If you want to check your dining plan credit balance, you’ll go through your Disney World app and your room reservation. If you’re interested in getting the Dining Plan for your next Disney World trip, you will need to decide if it’s worth it for you and your group. If you don’t plan on spending a lot of money on food or you think you’ll spend less than the cost of the dining plan, you may want to skip it. However, if you want the convenience of having your food paid for BEFORE your trip, it could still be worth it. Food from Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom Note that you can get the Disney Dining Plan for FREE with a new Disney World promotion, so you might want to look into that, too. Park Hopping Park hopping is BACK, baby, and we are going to park hop ALL over Disney World to test it out. We did a speed run of all the parks to see just how fast we could do all 4 parks in one day! We started out in Animal Kingdom. First park of the day! Then we made our way over to Hollywood Studios at 9AM! Park 2 by 9AM! By 9:15AM we were over in EPCOT! Going between Hollywood Studios and EPCOT is super simple with the handy Disney Skyliner. Park 3! And with the convenience of the monorail, we were in Magic Kingdom by 9:34AM. All 4 parks by 9:30AM! Yes, we had to treat ourselves to an “I’m Celebrating” button for this momentous occasion! It’s a day to celebrate! Of course we had to time ourselves. We made it to all four parks in Disney World in under 1 hour and 5 minutes. That has to be a record! Did we just break a record? It’s awesome to finally be able to do this again! Disney transportation was on point and very quick right away this morning. As a note, remember, you can ONLY park hop if you have a valid Disney World ticket that includes Park Hopper benefits or a Disney World Annual Pass. You can add the park hopper ticket option to your ticket for an additional price. FAQ Okay, so you might still be a little confused about all these changes (and it IS confusing), so we’re going to take questions from you, our DFB Readers, and answer them right here. So leave us a comment and let us know what you want to know about these new Disney World changes. Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Whew! It’s already been a day, but it’s far from over. The Disney Dining Plan is BACK, and some things are DIFFERENT! Magic Kingdom Disney Dining Plans have returned after being unavailable for a few years, with January 9th being the first day that guests can use the plans. We’ve already noticed a few major differences, and there’s one change in the Disney World app that we think you’ll love! You can keep track of your Disney Dining Plan credits in the My Disney Experience app, but that’s not the only update to the app that we spotted today! Credits Suppose you want to use Mobile Order at quick service restaurants to skip the line and get your food faster (which we highly recommend!). In that case, you can do so and still pay with your Disney Dining Plan (DDP) credits, as long as the restaurant where you’re Mobile Ordering is participating in the Disney Dining Plan. In fact, the app will automatically apply your DDP credits to your order! All set! As you’re ordering, you can view your complete order and edit or delete items that you’ve added. But now, Disney has added a cool new feature to the top of the “My Order” page! The app will let you know if you’ve left something out that’s included in your Disney Dining Plan credits. For example, when we ordered a Chili-Cheese All-Beef Foot-Long Hot Dog from Casey’s Corner, the app updated to say, “Don’t Miss Out — Your dining plan allows you to add another Standard Beverage to your meal.” We hadn’t added a drink to our meal, and a beverage is included in the Quick Service meal credit, so the app reminded us to add that! Cool new feature! This is a great feature so that you can really make the most of each Dining Plan credit. Disney Dining Plan Snack Credit Logo If you want to Mobile Order and just pay — NOT using your Disney Dining Plan credits — you can do that as well. You’ll just need to click “Modify” when reviewing your order and select “I don’t want to use my dining plan for this item.” If you DON’T want to use your DDP credits, you can update your order As a reminder, here’s what is included in each plan: Quick Service Dining Plan Inclusions Per Person in the travel party (ages 3 and up), Per Night: This plan includes counter service (i.e., fast food) meals and snacks at most quick service dining locations in the Walt Disney World Resort. Two Quick Service meals — entrée or combo meal at lunch and dinner and a beverage; Guests under 21 years of age can choose one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages for guests 10 years old and over — i.e. Artisanal Milk Shakes, Fresh Smoothies, Premium Hot Chocolates, or Soda, Coffee or Tea — where offered). Guests 21 and older can can choose either one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered) or one single serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine (where offered) within their meal entitlement. One snack/nonalcoholic drink One Resort refillable drink mug per person, per package Standard Dining Plan Inclusions — Each person on the meal plan will receive credits for the following, per night: One table service entrée, dessert (lunch and dinner only), OR full buffet; Guests under 21 years of age can choose one non-alcoholic beverage with their Quick Service and Table Service meal (including specialty beverages for guests 10 years old and over — i.e. Artisanal Milk Shakes, Fresh Smoothies, Premium Hot Chocolates, or Soda, Coffee or Tea — where offered). We would like to take a moment of silence for the Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World. We must say goodbye… There are SO many things happening today at Walt Disney World. From the return of the Disney Dining Plan to park hopping going back to normal — there is A LOT of change. Time to buckle up, folks. While it wasn’t a fundamental change to your Walt Disney World experience, when we realized that Christmas is officially GONE at Magic Kingdom… it made us feel some type of way, and we’re not afraid to admit that. We began to notice the lack of Christmas decor when we arrived at the Ticket and Transportation Center this morning as we headed over to Magic Kingdom — but we were hoping that some of the big decorations would still be up once we got into the park. The decorations are gone from the planters! When we arrived at Magic Kingdom, we noticed big changes before we even entered the park. The train station used to be filled with a ton of Christmas spirit. There was garland everywhere, twinkle lights filling the fence of the train station, and festive red and green flowers in the planter. We’re not completely devastated that the decor is gone, we just… need a moment to process it. Let’s head into the park! Now that we are in the parks, the changes are even more apparent than they were before. The giant Christmas tree at the top of Main Street, U.S.A., has been taken down. The good news? We are FINALLY able to see Cinderella Castle from the top of Main Street again! We have to say, as much as we LOVED the holiday decorations, we’re excited that we can finally get this view again. Regardless, we do miss that level of festivity in the park and are already looking forward to next November when the decorations will be put up again. The tree is GONE! While we’re still reeling from the lack of holiday decorations — we know it is time for them to go. We’re still SO impressed at how quickly the turnaround is for the removal of holiday decorations. Yesterday it felt like we were still in holiday mode, and today it feels like just a normal day — which, to be fair, it is just a normal day. We have NO MORE garland! We’re live in the parks all day today giving you different updates about all of the BIG CHANGES that are happening, so keep checking in with us at DFB to see what we find next! The Disney World Dining Plan is BACK, baby!! We’re testing it out to see what’s changed and bring you all the best tips! Disney Dining Plan Shirt The Disney Dining Plan has been unavailable for years, but it finally returned on January 9th, 2024. Dining Plans are optional add-ons to your Disney World trip (your trip must include a stay at a Disney-owned hotel) and allow you to pre-pay for your meals and snacks. But how exactly do you USE your Dining Plan that you’ve purchased? We’ve got a complete, step-by-step guide for you right here. Disney has set up two versions of the Disney Dining Plan for different budgets and dining tastes. If you purchase a plan as part of your trip, all you have to do when you get to Disney World is head to a restaurant on the list of participating locations, EAT!, and scan your MagicBand, Key to the World card, or Disney MagicMobile pass. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Eats The credits for the meal will be deducted from your pre-paid meal or snack allotment, so you don’t pay while you’re at the restaurant. (Note: Gratuity is not included for table-service meals.) You can use it with Mobile Order, too! Here’s how it all works. Locate Your Disney Dining Plan in the App and View Remaining Credits To see your Disney Dining Plan, open the My Disney Experience app and click the three stacked horizontal lines in the bottom menu. See the three lines in the bottom, right-hand corner? This will bring you to your profile, with lots of options like “Tip Board,” “My Disney Genie Day,” “Virtual Queues,” and more. You’ll want to click on the “Resort Hotel” one. Choose “Resort Hotel” Here, you can see details about your Disney World hotel reservation. Scroll down a little until you see your room number (or a notice to check back for the room number) along with a menu of options beneath that section. That menu is where you’ll find your Dining Plan! We’ve circled it in red here. There it is! Once you click on it, it’ll show you how many credits you have remaining. Credits As you use your credits throughout your trip, these numbers will update to show you how many credits you have left in each category. You can keep checking back to make sure you know what you have left! “Pay” With Your MagicBand, Key To the World Card, or MagicMobile Pass If you’re not using Mobile Order, you’ll order your food like normal at any participating quick service or table service restaurant. You can let your server know that you’re using the Disney Dining Plan before you order, and they can help answer any specific questions you have about how the plan works at that particular restaurant. Morimoto Asia As a reminder, here’s what you get with each plan: Quick Service Dining Plan Inclusions Per Person in the travel party (ages 3 and up), Per Night: This plan includes counter service (i.e., fast food) meals and snacks at most quick service dining locations in the Walt Disney World Resort. Guests 21 and older can can choose either one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered) or one single serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine (where offered) within their meal entitlement. Guests 21 and older can can choose either one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered) or one single serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine (where offered) within their meal entitlement. One snack/nonalcoholic drink One Resort refillable drink mug per person, per package Eight Spoon Café After you’ve ordered (and eaten, in the case of table service restaurants), you’ll pay using your MagicBand, Key to the World card, or Disney MagicMobile pass. Your Dining Plan credits are linked to your account, so you need to use one of those methods of payment in order to use your credits. Mobile Order with Disney Dining Plan You can use your Disney Dining Plan credits with Mobile Order, too! To Mobile Order, just click the little “+” button at the bottom of your screen in the My Disney Experience app and select “Order Food.” Select “Order Food” Then, choose a participating quick service restaurant and hit “Begin Order.” Pick the one you want! You should get a notification that lets you know your Disney Dining Plan credits can be used at that restaurant. DDP applied! Once you’ve made your order, you can begin to check out. We discovered a cool new feature — the app will let you know if your plan includes something that you didn’t already have in your order! When we went to order a Hot Dog, the app had a notification at the top of the screen that said, “Don’t Miss Out: Your dining plan allows you to add another Standard Beverage to your meal.” Cool new feature! At this point, if you DON’T want to use your Dining Plan credits on your meal, you can click “Modify” once you get to the order review page and then choose “I don’t want to use my dining plan for this item.” You will need to update that payment selection for every item in your order. The Disney World app automatically applies your Dining Plan credits to all the items, so you’ll have to go through each item individually and choose “I don’t want to use my dining plan for this item” for each one. If you DON’T want to use your DDP credits, you can update your order Then, you’ll either finish your order (if you’re using your Dining Plan to pay for it) or pay for it using another payment method. And you’re all set! All set! If you want help planning your upcoming Disney World trip, talk to our friends over at Small World Vacations. They can get you set up with the best deals and discounts, and their services are completely free! We’ll continue to watch for updates and changes to the Disney Dining Plan, so stay tuned to DFB! It’s a BIG DAY for Disney World fans!! Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom LOTS of things are changing in Disney World today! The Disney Dining Plan is BACK. Park Pass reservation requirements are GONE for most guests. AND you can now park hop ALL DAY long — no more waiting until 2PM! Of course we’re in the parks all day today — covering all the changes, and well, first thing this morning we spotted a snag. As you probably assume since we’re at Disney World 365 days a year, the DFB Team are annual passholders. And while that does mean we still have to make park pass reservations even after the rule changes today — we do get to take advantage of all-day park hopping! Disney World Annual Passholder Magnet We bought Disney Genie+ — Disney World’s paid “skip-the-line” service — early this morning, and when 7AM came, we were ready to book a Lightning Lane. Our reporter was starting the day in Animal Kingdom with Early Theme Park Entry at 7:30AM, and they planned to hop over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios right when it opens at 9AM to ride Slinky Dog Dash as early as possible! Slinky Dog Dash However, Disney Genie+ seems to still have the old 2PM park hopping rules applied, because it wouldn’t let us book a Lightning Lane in a different park than the one on our reservation until AFTER 2PM. My Disney Experience app Next. we tried to book an Individual Lightning Lane (where you pay extra to ride at a certain time) for Rise of the Resistance. And … the same thing happened. Even though the new rules allow us to park hop anytime, we couldn’t choose an Individual Lightning Lane time until after 2PM. We decided to have another reporter try with the same result — no Lightning Lanes could be booked until after 2PM. We checked for an app update, but none was available, and we uninstalled and re-installed the app on our phones — just to be sure. Rise of the Resistance We’re no stranger to glitches in the Disney World app, and to be honest, we expected we may encounter a tech problem or two today with so many things changing at once. Hopefully this can be fixed soon! We’re in the parks all day today testing out all the new rules, and we’ll keep you posted. Keep following us for much more! The day we’ve all been waiting for at Walt Disney World is finally HERE!!! Magic Kingdom Disney World is starting 2024 off with a bang! While the resort is getting plenty of new things in 2024, we’re super excited about the return of older programs and perks after long hiatuses. From the return of hotel perks to the return of the Disney Dining Plan, Disney World is bringing back a lot of pre-pandemic positives in 2024. The Parks are going to look even more normal starting TODAY, thanks to the complete overhaul of the park pass system. Disney announced last year that on January 9th, 2024 parks will NO LONGER REQUIRE reservations (for date-based tickets). Now that we’ve FINALLY reached that day, here’s what that means and what else you should expect to be the new norm going forward. The COVID-19 pandemic spurred a reservation system at the Disney Parks where online reservations were required to visit your desired park for the day. Additionally, park hopping became restricted to 2 PM availability windows and still required a first park reservation. The complexity of the system mixed in with the other adjustments Disney World made in light of the pandemic made for harder than usual Disney planning experience the last few years. That all officially ends today. Let’s Go! As for park hopping, the 2 PM restriction is also being lifted today. Guests with date-based tickets can park hop freely to their heart’s content. However, per Disney, “On days when theme park reservations are required for Annual Passholders and certain non-dated tickets, Passholders and guests will be able to take advantage of the updates to Park Hopper access after visiting their first park.” So some restrictions are still in place for Annual Passholders and those who don’t have date-based tickets, including the need for reservations on select days, but they will still be able to park hop and visit the parks WITHOUT a reservation on “Good to Go” days. As of now, the park pass reservation system is still in effect at the Disneyland Resort. Disney’s Animal Kingdom As we previously mentioned, the Dining Plan is back and that ALSO starts today. The two Vacation Package add-on plans (the Standard Disney Dining Plan and the Quick Service Disney Dining Plan) allow you to go to a restaurant that accepts the Disney Dining Plan and use your MagicBand, Key to the World card, or Disney MagicMobile pass as a credit card.
