  3. Recently, passengers aboard an Alaska Airlines flight were forced to make an emergency landing due to a midair flight incident. Flying is stressful The incident took place on January 5th, 2024, and Alaska Airlines has responded to the situation. According to The New York Times, Alaska Airlines has grounded all flights on its Boeing 737 MAX-9 aircraft after a midair incident forced one of those planes to make an emergency landing at Portland International Airport in Oregon. The Boeing 737 MAX-9 comprises about a fifth of Alaska Airlines’ fleet. ©Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 was on its way to Ontario, California, when a problem with the airplane’s pressure blew out a chunk of the plane’s fuselage while in flight. The flight made a safe emergency landing in Portland with its 171 passengers and six crew members. Passengers on that flight have taken to social media to discuss the incident, and some videos have been posted online that show oxygen masks dropping down after a gaping hole was torn into the plane. Alaska Airlines ‘Star Wars’ plane Shortly after the incident, the airline took to social media to announce it would temporarily suspend all 65 of its Boeing MAX-9 aircraft until each plane could be properly inspected. The airline expects that inspections could be completed within a few days. The plane used for Flight 1282 was relatively new and first went into service in November 2023. It had logged 145 flights before the incident. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are working with Alaska Airlines to investigate what happened. 5. Okay, we’re just going to tell you now — we’re NEVER not excited about new food in Disney World. Chef Mickey’s Now that we’ve said goodbye to all those holiday foods and drinks, we’re gearing up for the next round of new Disney snacks. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, after all. But we also keep an eye on Disney World restaurant menu changes, and one in particular, really caught our eye. We’ll give you two words: Croissant Beignets. Okay, so when we first learned that Croissant Beignets had been added to the buffet at Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, we IMMEDIATELY made an advance dining reservation for breakfast. Just the IDEA of two of our favorite pastries being combined like that has us giddy. Now, croissant beignets aren’t necessarily something Disney invented. They’ve been around for a while and sometimes they’re even called “Croisseignets.” Are we there yet? Finally, the day came for our breakfast at Chef Mickey’s. We practically RAN all the way to the restaurant because we couldn’t wait to try this new treat. Seriously, this is the kind of thing we LIVE for. So we finally made it to our breakfast reservation and said hello to some of the characters there, but sorry, Mickey, we’re here for the Croissant Beignets. Oh, hi, Mickey! We made our way to the buffet stations. Finally, there they were in ALL their glory (cue the trumpets). Plus there are dipping sauces! We found them! So we made our way quickly back to our table (okay, we picked up a few other food items, too). We’ll admit that we’ve already hyped the Croissant Beignets up in our minds. So did they meet our expectations? Well, the answer is a resounding, “YES!” It’s TIME These are EXACTLY like what we’d expect from something that’s both a croissant and a beignet. It’s basically a beignet made with croissant dough — you know those wonderful buttery layers that make a croissant a croissant. Then they’re fried like a beignet and topped with cinnamon sugar. Look at those buttery layers We ate three of these babies before we felt like we’d properly sampled them. They are VERY sweet and a smidge greasy (they ARE fried, after all), but they’re a delicious addition to the breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey’s. But now, y’all, we need a NAP. We also tried a few other things at the buffet, and we’ll get to that review soon. But we just had to tell you about the Croissant Beignets ASAP because we couldn’t contain ourselves. 8. Could we see a reversal of the decision that led to the dissolution of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District at Disney World? Reedy Creek Improvement District In between all of the bouncing back and forth between the former RCID entity becoming the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District after Governor Ron Desantis’ state takeover, there have been a lot of controversial opinions formed on its successes and failures. Amid the recent news that employees are now expected to pay out millions of dollars for a once-free perk while employed there, lawmakers are still looking for possibilities to restore the newly reassigned district to its previous version. Could they be successful? According to an article by Deadline, Florida state legislators voted on January 5th, 2024 in favor of a bill that would reverse Governor Ron DeSantis’ state takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID). This once Disney-owned entity was stripped of its control last year which oversaw the company’s theme park properties when Disney spoke out against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill (known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by critics). Disney vs. DeSantis However, while the vote moves the process forward for the bill, it still has long odds of getting very far within the Republican-controlled Florida legislature. Democratic Senator Linda Stewart, whose district includes parts of Orange County, says that the bill “begins the conversation” stressing that the process to replace the then intact RCID board was a decision made with haste. “We are paying the price for that rushed decision,” said Stewart. She also pointed out the dozens of staffers who worked at the Reedy Creek Improvement District who also left when the new CFTOD was formed. Reedy Creek Building Stewart also went on to say, “This is not the way that we should be treating our Disney people,” noting the company’s influx of tax dollars it brings to Central Florida. She also went on to say that the former board members “simply don’t have enough experience with how to deal with local government.” Lawmakers in the Orange County delegation, mainly comprised of Democrats, took the voice vote on Friday while a few voted against the repeal bill, expressing doubt that it will go further in the legislature. While Republican Representative Douglas Bankson said that he was open to looking at improvements, a full effort to repeal the decision made him skeptical calling Disney’s previous control of RCID a “mini-Vatican.” He went on to state, “We need to have an equal footing for all our players in central Florida.” Reedy Creek Fire Department Other Democratic Representatives like Anna Eskamani, expressed interest in seeing local officials appointed to the board. As a reminder, with Governor Desantis’s state takeover of the newly formed CFTOD, board members were picked by DeSantis last year when the state legislature successfully voted to reconstitute the district. The former RCID district was formed in 1967, at the time that Disney was developing its property, and has operated since then as an almost self-governing entity, with the Walt Disney Company effectively controlling its board. It’s also important to note that The Walt Disney Company is by a long shot the largest landowner within the district. Reedy Creek Improvement District A federal judge is expected to make a final ruling soon on whether to allow Disney’s lawsuit against DeSantis and his hand-picked CFTOD board to move forward. The Walt Disney Company sued the Governor of Florida last spring, claiming that DeSantis’ actions were retaliation and in violation of its First Amendment rights after Disney spoke out against parental rights legislation. 9. Disney Legend Glynis Johns passed away at 100 years old on Thursday, January 4th, 2024. Her manager confirmed that she died from natural causes. ©Disney Johns played a strong feminist known as Winifred Banks in Disney’s 1964 Mary Poppins. Her role as a suffragette would become one of the defining moments in her long, impressive career. In fact, in a tribute to Johns, it was revealed that Walt Disney personally selected her to play Winifred Banks. Johns was born on October 5th, 1923, in Pretoria, South Africa. The young actress made history early in her career after receiving a degree to teach dance by age 10. From there, she would go on to win several medals for dance, and by 1938, she was appearing in her first feature film, South Riding. She went on to act in 49th Parallel in 1941, which was known in America as The Invaders. Johns broke more records when she went on to play a leading role in the theatrical production of Peter Pan at age 19. ©IMDb It wasn’t until the early ’50s that Johns took a role with The Walt Disney Studios. Johns starred as Mary Tudor in Disney’s The Sword and the Rose. 45 years later, Johns was inducted as a Disney Legend. Of course, Johns’ most famous work with Disney was her role in Mary Poppins. The musical earned 13 Academy Award nominations and five Oscars. In Disney’s tribute to Johns, the company includes a quote from film critic Leonard Maltin, where he notes, “She lights up the screen the minute she appears [in Mary Poppins]. She makes every minute count, and her amusing suffragette song is most enjoyable.” ©Disney In 1960, Johns earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Sundowners, where she played Mrs. Firth. Then in 1973, she received a Tony Award for her portrayal of Desiree Armfeldt in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Sondheim was once quoted admitting that her performance of “Send in the Clowns” was his favorite. Johns also graced smaller screens in television shows like The Cavanaughs, General Electric Theatre, Batman, Cheers, and Murder She Wrote. You may even recognize her name from her own series, Glynis. ©IMDb Johns performed in dozens of feature films and theatrical productions throughout her career. You can see her in archival footage in the documentary Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: The Making of ‘Mary Poppins’ Disney referred to the actress as “everyone’s favorite sister suffragette,” and the actress will truly be missed. Our thoughts are with Johns’ family and friends. The post Disney Shares Tribute to Icon and Legend Glynis Johns first appeared on the disney food blog. View the full article

  12. If planning your Disney World trip feels like a full-time job, that’s because in some cases — it is. TRON Lightcycle / Run Keeping track of dining information, hotel reservations, Lightning Lane times, and more can be overwhelming — and don’t even get us started on those pesky ride closures. Refurbishments need to happen to keep attractions running in tip-top shape, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be disappointed when it happens. If you’re heading to Disney World in 2024, you need to know about these multi-month ride closures! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios is a fast-paced coaster that features music and a pre-ride show by Aerosmith. But, beginning January 8th, 2024, the ride will close for a lengthy refurbishment. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Disney hasn’t announced a specific opening date just yet, but the website shows the ride will be closed through summer 2024. Kali River Rapids Kali River Rapids in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom will be temporarily closed starting on January 8th, 2024. This isn’t too surprising as Disney often shuts water rides down during winter months. Kali River Rapids We don’t have an official reopening date but we know the ride will remain closed until mid-March. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid failed to reopen with the rest of Disney World following the COVID closures, but Disney hadn’t made any announcements on what might happen with this show. Voyage of the Little Mermaid But, Disney announced in December 2023 that a NEW show — “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” — is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024! The new show will be a reimagined show inspired by the original animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The show will Splash Mountain/Tiana’s Bayou Adventure This one probably goes without saying, but Splash Mountain is closed forever. However, the mountain is undergoing quite the refurbishment to transform into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Adding more yellow flowers Because of this, you’ll have to wait quite a few months to ride this attraction. See the Latest Updates with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Here There are a handful of attractions that are likely to be next in line for lengthy refurbishments, though Disney hasn’t made any sort of announcements on timelines just yet. Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom will be getting a makeover in 2024! ©Disney Disney hasn’t announced any sort of timeline for this refurbishment, nor have they said how long it might take. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more announcements and potential updates on this retheme! Dinosaur Disney has announced that the DinoLand, U.S.A. area of Animal Kingdom will be undergoing a massive transformation… we just don’t know what yet! But, this means we may have to say goodbye to our beloved Dinosaur attraction. Dinosaur We don’t have any sort of further details or potential timelines, but as soon as we do we’ll share them with you! It’s Tough To Be a Bug We may soon have to say goodbye to another Animal Kingdom attraction, too — It’s Tough To Be a Bug will likely be getting replaced with a new Zootopia show! It’s Tough To Be a Bug Shockingly, we don’t yet have any concrete details or timeline for this one, either. Test Track Test Track at EPCOT is also scheduled to get a retheming. Like the other possible closures we’ve mentioned, there is no set timeline to Test Track’s retheme so it’s very possible it remains open all year in 2024 without any refurbishment or closures. Test Track With that said, the chance that Test Track — along with DINOSAUR and It’s Tough to be a Bug! — closes temporarily in 2024 is always a possibility. 13. It’s been a rough year for Disney. Cinderella Castle Between lawsuits, box office flops, poor financial results, and more, the company has had to deal with a lot of negativity as of late. We’ve also seen show after show get canceled by Disney, and now, another series has officially been added to that list. Here’s what we know. Another Disney+ series has been canceled by the media giant, Variety has reported. “American Born Chinese” will no longer air on Disney+ after just one season. ©Disney Per a source close to the situation, Disney was a fan of the creativity of this series, but the viewership didn’t justify giving a second season the green light. But, not all hope is lost as the showrunners plan to shop the series around at other outlets. ©Disney “American Born Chinese” premiered on Disney+ in May 2023 and was based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang. The show follows the trials of an American teenager whose life is changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god. Michelle Yeoh, Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jimmy Liu, Ke Huy Quan, Sydney Taylor, and Daniel Wu were among the cast of the series. 14. Disneyland announces another restaurant closure coming soon! Disney California Adventure While preparations are underway for Disneyland’s Food & Wine Festival and celebrating Pixar Fest with new parade additions, Disneyland has been a busy place. We already knew that Blue Bayou in Disneyland was set to close soon for a short refurbishment, but now Disneyland has announced ANOTHER restaurant closing around the same time. Another restaurant in Disneyland is scheduled to close soon. Paradise Garden Grill located in Disney California Adventure is scheduled for refurbishment starting on January 8th, 2024. This will also closely follow the closure of Blue Bayou scheduled to temporarily close as well. Paradise Garden Grill is known for their Mexican inspired cuisine and regularly participates in seasonal offerings. ©Disney But don’t worry, this popular restaurant’s closure shouldn’t be too long. Disneyland lists hours again starting January 22nd, 2024 however, their hours will be coming and going for the coming weeks afterward. ©Disney We know this is the lull between festivals and celebrations so we can imagine this leaves time for the kitchens to prepare for the next food celebration to come. 15. When it comes to planning a Disney World trip, there are a lot of things you need to keep track of. Wilderness Lodge And, if you’re not an expert it can be difficult to figure out which parks to visit, where to eat, and which hotel to stay at when you visit. There are dozens of hotels on Disney World property and we’ve stayed at them all — but you should do yourself a favor and avoid these in particular! How do you choose which Disney World hotel to stay in if you’ve never been? Don’t worry — that’s what we’re here for! All-Star Sports Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is one of three similarly named hotels (Music and Movies being the other two) and is a Value Resort — meaning you’ll get a pretty good bang for your buck here compared to other hotels. But, the theming isn’t super Disney-centric and if you’re not a big sports buff, the theming is kind of pointless. Like the other All-Star hotels, there are larger-than-life statues dedicated to several different sports which are interesting, but there are plenty of other hotels to stay at that have better theming for similar value. Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Not only that, but All-Star Sports is a common hotel for groups — think sports teams and school bands — which can mean you might have to deal with an influx of crowds at this hotel. If you’re not interested in looking out your hotel window and seeing large groups of cheerleaders practicing their competition routines, you might want to avoid this one. All Star Sports Who should stay here? Sports fans and people traveling in large groups. Complete Guide To Eating at All-Star Sports Grand Floridan Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is known for being, well, grand, at that grandeur comes at quite a hefty price. This is one of the most expensive hotels on Disney World property, but other than being within walking distance to Magic Kingdom, you can find a nicer experience elsewhere. Because of this, we often find that the Grand Flo just isn’t worth the price. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort The theming is pretty outdated and although some rooms have undergone recent refurbishments, the overall vibe of this hotel is just a bit stuffy. Other than the updated guest rooms and certain areas, the rest of the resort could use a solid facelift. It’s also not overflowing with Disney theming, and if you’re traveling with kiddos that can be a big dealbreaker. Grand Floridian Lobby Who should stay here? People looking for a classic Disney World hotel within walking distance of Magic Kingdom Complete Guide To Eating at Grand Floridian Caribbean Beach Looking for a Caribbean getaway smack dab in the middle of Disney World? Look no further than the Caribbean Beach Resort — unless you’re looking for a quick walk to amenities and transportation. Sure, having a Disney World Skyliner stop at this hotel is a major plus (the Skyliner is Disney’s gondola transportation system) but having to walk a mile to get to it certainly isn’t. Caribbean Beach The Caribbean Beach Resort is expansive — there are multiple different villages with guest rooms, pools, eateries, stores, and more spread out across quite a large area, and if you get stuck in a room all the way at the end of the resort it could make a long park day even longer at the end of the night. We will give this hotel points for the tropical vibes, moderate pricing, and access to the Skyliner, but if that’s your main draw we recommend Art of Animation or Pop Century instead. Fuentes del Morro pool Who should stay here? People looking for a Moderate Resort with access to the Skyliner Complete Guide To Eating at Caribbean Beach Coronado Springs Another Moderate Resort we have similar gripes about is Coronado Springs. Don’t get us wrong — we love this hotel for plenty of reasons, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some critiques. This hotel is huge with lots of spread-out buildings and amenities — including a restaurant in the middle of a lake! And, things get even more spread out when you consider the Gran Destino Tower addition. Coronado Springs Resort Coronado is also commonly used for business conferences and things like that, meaning you may have to contend with an influx of suits from time to time. Another con on our list for Coronado is the lack of transportation — buses are your only option here, and you also have to deal with the dreaded internal bus loop. Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort Who should stay here? People looking for a Deluxe Resort feel at Moderate Resort prices Complete Guide To Eating at Coronado Springs Riviera Resort Disney World’s newest hotel is also one of its most controversial. Riviera Resort is absolutely beautiful and features access to the Skyliner, which is already a huge plus for many folks. But, it’s another Deluxe Resort that can often be seen as not really worth what you’re paying. There is minimal Disney theming here, and it’s not as exciting as other hotels. Riviera Resort Not only that, but there aren’t as many things to do or places to explore around this resort which can be a dealbreaker for those looking to really enjoy all that Disney World hotels have to offer. Riviera Resort Who should stay here? 17. In early September 2023, Spectrum customers found themselves in the middle of a dispute between Charter and The Walt Disney Company, which resulted in a week-long blackout that left millions of customers without access to Disney-owned cable channels like ABC and ESPN. Disney+ Charter, which is Spectrum’s parent company, removed Disney-owned networks from its service after not being able to agree with Disney on several contract terms. During the blackout, customers were unable to watch ESPN, ABC, ESPN, FX, and the Disney Channel. Later, Charter was hit with a class-action lawsuit in response to the situation. But now, fast-forward to January 2024, and things are looking up for Spectrum customers. On September 11th, 2023, Disney and Charter Communications reached a deal to end the cable blackout. There were three key points outlined in the deal: The Disney+ Basic ad-supported offering will be provided to customers who purchase the Spectrum TV Select package, as part of a wholesale arrangement. ESPN+ will be provided to Spectrum TV Select Plus subscribers. The ESPN flagship direct-to-consumer service will be made available to Spectrum TV Select subscribers when it launches. Charter will maintain flexibility to offer a range of video packages at varying price points based upon different customer viewing preferences. ©Disney Disney CEO Bob Iger and Charter CEO Chris Winfrey released a joint statement after coming to an agreement: “Our collective goal has always been to build an innovative model for the future. This deal recognizes both the continued value of linear television and the growing popularity of streaming services while addressing the evolving needs of our consumers. We also want to thank our mutual customers for their patience this past week and are pleased that Spectrum viewers once again have access to Disney’s high-quality sports, news and entertainment programming, in time for Monday Night Football.” ©Disney Beginning January 4th, 2024, Spectrum TV select customers now have access to the ad-supported version of Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As mentioned, the new Disney+ access comes as part of Charter/Disney’s deal in response to the carriage dispute in September. Charter agreed to promote Disney’s streaming services to its broadband customers. ©Disney Additionally, Spectrum TV Select Plus subscribers will also see ESPN+ added to their membership for no additional cost. ESPN+ access should arrive “in the coming months,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Note that a few Disney-owned cable channels, like Freeform, FXX, Disney Junior, and Nat Geo Wild, are no longer offered on Spectrum. ©Disney If you’re a Spectrum customer, check your plan! We think we know when a very important celebrity is coming to town! ©Marvel Studios That’s right, we’re looking into the future and trying to predict who celeb we’re going to be spotting next in the Orlando area. In 2023 we saw a few — like Serena Williams, Kevin Jonas, and Julianne Hough. As we continue to ring in 2024, we’re left wondering who we’ll see next — and we should expect to see a big Marvel star around here soon. Okay, we may have lied about looking into the future. HOWEVER, we do know that you have the chance to see (AND MEET!) a Marvel Comics Universe (MCU) star in Orlando in February. ©Marvel Tom Hiddleston — Loki himself — will be in Orlando from February 3rd through 4th for MegaCon! We have to say, we’re a little starstruck by this. Even though we’re not meeting him, it is still so exciting that he’ll be in the area. ©Marvel Hiddleston will be at MegaCon for a meet and greet as well as a live panel. His autographs and tickets to his live panel are sold out, however you can still meet him for a photo! A photo will cost around $225 per person, so be prepared for that if you’re headed out that way to meet him. ©Disney MegaCon is a convention for all things pop culture! 19. If you’re planning a Disney World trip, we’ve got some big news to share with you. Are you planning a trip? So we’ve already talked about why January (especially late January) could be a great time to travel to Disney World: the holiday crowds are gone and the weather is generally cooler. However, we have ANOTHER reason why booking a trip to Disney World — or anywhere else — could be a good idea. Thanks to data from Hopper, an online booking site, we’ve noticed that flights for January 2024 are generally cheaper than they’ve been in the past. This data suggests that January is the cheapest month of the year to book travel until the fall travel season in September and October. Fares are expected to rise in late spring just in time for spring break. So NOW is the time to travel! NOW is the time to FLY The data also suggests that the cost of domestic airfare will remain below 2023 and pre-pandemic levels for the next five months, though, so if you can’t travel in January, you’re still going to get lower airfare prices than we’ve seen in four years. The data also shows that airlines are adding seats to many destinations, which also helps in bringing prices down for these popular spots. ©Hopper Hotels are also in demand, particularly in Orlando. According to Hopper, Orlando is the 5th most-searched destination on the app, with hotels there averaging around $152 per night. ©Hopper Interestingly enough, Hopper has also found that travelers are now planning their trips closer to their departure dates than before 2020. On average, Americans are making their first search for a flight just one month before departure, almost two weeks closer than they would have before the pandemic. We like to keep updated on these travel trends, and we’ll have to see if the potential end of revenge travel will impact how many people we see at the airport and in Disney World. 21. There’s a reason it feels like you’re stepping into another world when you enter Magic Kingdom. That park, unlike Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom, is kind of on its own little island. In fact, you can’t even park your car at Magic Kingdom — you have to take a boat or ride the monorail just to enter the park! Magic Kingdom Of course, this is all by design. Walt Disney wanted to transport people to a magical place free of parking lots and traffic lines. Don’t get us wrong — we love the concept, but it does create a few pesky problems. Watch out, people! Whatever you do, do NOT make this disastrous Magic Kingdom mistake on your next trip to Disney World. This word of warning goes out to all you park hoppers out there. As you may have heard, Disney announced that all-day park hopping is BACK in Disney World, meaning you can go from park to park whenever you want! (After the parks reopened in 2020, Disney had a strict 2PM park hopping rule that prevented guests from visiting a second park until after 2PM.) All that new freedom is pretty exciting to think about — but we’ve got a warning for you to consider, too. Tower of Terror Say you plan to start your day at Magic Kingdom, hop to EPCOT in the evening, then pop over to the Jellyrolls bar at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort for a drink. Great plan! You can take the monorail directly to EPCOT from the Transportation and Ticket Center, then walk right out the gates of EPCOT and stroll over to Jellyrolls after the park closes. Easy peasy. But if you parked your car by Magic Kingdom, you’ve got to keep a close eye on the time. Transportation and Ticket Center Trams If you’re planning a late night out, be careful not to get stranded without your car! At a certain point, Disney World transportation closes for the night, and once those buses stop running, you might be out of luck. In fact, Disney states that its bus service generally operates from 45 minutes before a theme park’s opening time until one hour after a theme park’s closing time. Disney Bus Transportation So, say Magic Kingdom closes at 9PM, but you plan to be out until 11:30PM. You might not be able to take a bus back to Magic Kingdom to get to the Transportation and Ticket Center if Disney World transportation is finished for the night. In this case, you might be stuck paying for a rideshare service just to return to your car. Jellyrolls The same advice applies to the other Disney parks. If you park your car at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, for example, then park hop to Magic Kingdom via bus, don’t forget that Animal Kingdom often closes much earlier than the other three parks. That means those Animal Kingdom buses won’t be able to bring you back to your car late at night! Animal Kingdom typically closes the earliest of the four parks Of course, the easiest solution is to just drive your car from place to place, but even this advice isn’t 100% foolproof. For example, if you wanted to go from Disney’s Animal Kingdom over to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort to watch the fireworks, you likely would NOT be able to drive your car from Animal Kingdom to the Grand Floridian. Some Disney World hotels have pretty strict parking rules, so unless you have a dining reservation, you may be turned away. Grand Floridian Resort Disney World transportation can be deceiving, so don’t assume you can rely on it 24/7. Make sure to plan ahead so you know exactly where you’re going and how you’re going to get there first thing in the morning. That means checking those park hours bright and early, people. Yes, we know it’s fun to be spontaneous and make your plans on the fly, but sometimes, a lack of planning can come back to haunt you if you’re not careful. Plan ahead, people! This advice comes from experience! We’ve been turned away from hotel parking lots, lost track of time, and been (accidentally) ignorant of park hours — all to our own detriment. Don’t be like us! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 24. Disney World is no stranger to menu changes but this latest one really surprised us. Side dishes ©Disney Just within the past few months, Disney World has made TONS of changes to menus all over their parks and hotels, but now it seems like the latest change has affected even one of the NEWEST restaurants. We heard a few popular side items were MISSING from a popular restaurant so we set out to investigate! One of the latest restaurants to hit Disney’s Hollywood Studios is already experiencing a menu change! It hasn’t quite been a full year yet since Roundup Rodeo BBQ opened inside Toy Story Land and quickly became a popular option for their moderately priced family-style dining and MANY sides. Roundup Rodeo BBQ When this restaurant first opened, you were able to order 4 sides of your choosing from their menu of 8 options, however, since this meal was served family style, you could change out a side if you didn’t like it the first time around (or just wanted to try something different!) Menu Details Now, that menu has shrunk a bit down to 5 total sides that are brought out to your table all at the same time. Now, your side options are only The Claw! Veggie Slaw, Cowpoke Corn on the Cob, Potato Barrels, Buckin’ Baked Beans, and Slinky Doooooooooog Mac & Cheese. This means the Mean Ole Potato Salad, The Married Spuds (loaded potato barrels), and Force Field Fried Pickels have officially been cut from the restaurant’s menu. And then there were 5! The Cast Member we spoke with about the change said it’s a lot easier on the kitchen now and makes things less complicated for them and their visitors. They also mentioned the change is planned to be permanent as of now. Will you miss the sides that were nixed from the menu? Did any that you were hoping to try not survive the change? Will this change keep you from trying out this newer restaurant? Be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for the latest in Disney menu changes and updates! It’s Official. 25. Who wants to play a game of I-spy? We’ll go first. We spy something NEW at the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride in Disney World! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is really starting to take shape! At this point, Imagineers have completely transformed the area that used to be home to Splash Mountain. Now, that large tree stump at the top of the mountain is gone (or is it?), and lush flowers and greenery have taken over. As Princess Tiana once sang, we “Ain’t got time for messing around,” so come with us to see the CHANGES happening in Frontierland! Disney is getting closer and closer every day to opening its NEW Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction. As a little refresher, this new attraction takes the place of Splash Mountain but will feature all-new music, theming, and animatronics. ©Disney The ride is inspired by Disney’s Princess and the Frog movie and follows the story of Tiana “after the final kiss,” and guests will “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure — featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney The attraction will feature some recognizable (and new) characters, including Tiana, Louis, and more! Disney revealed, “On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ll join Tiana and Louis on a trip to the bayou, where they meet all sorts of unexpected new friends who have a special role to play at the party.” In fact, Disney even shared a behind-the-scenes preview of the Louis animatronic! Louis animatronic ©Disney The attraction is set to open in 2024, though Disney hasn’t shared an exact opening date quite yet. But we’re almost there, as Tiana says! Take a look at the NEW addition to the exterior of the attraction. Do you see what we see? It’s a NEW weathervane! Placed high atop the roof of part of the ride lies a new (but old-looking, because DETAIL, people) weather vane with intricate, ornate details. It’s kind of hard to see behind all the scaffolding, but trust us — it’s there! It’s there!! Here’s a look at the concept art to get an idea of where this is located on the ride — it’s the golden object on top of the roof on the left. It’s on the roof on the left! Disney also released more details about the weather vane and the top blacksmith who created it! Darryl Reeves crafted this custom weathervane at his blacksmith shop in Louisiana’s Seventh Ward. ©Disney “I take metal and do anything I want with it,” Reeves said. “To have a free hand to design and fabricate the weathervane for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure…that’s an honor.” ©Disney He, along with his apprentice Karina, created the weathervane for the attraction.
