Oh, World Premiere Food Court at All-Star Movies, you know our favorites! The Food Court has premiered a Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake just in time for Valentine’s Day! World Premiere Food Court And thanks to our instagram pal @rgrrabbit1 we’ve got some great shots to share with you along with a quick review! The new shake finds happy medium between a “standard” shake in a cup and those crazy-over-the-top shakes. Take a look at this! You’ve got a Strawberry Shake in a souvenir plastic cup that has been drizzled with Chocolate and has Chocolate around the top. Plus — all of this is topped off with Whipped Cream! Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake Our reporter really enjoyed this milkshake — even though it was missing the chocolate covered strawberry. The only drawback is that chocolate around the top if the cup is hard to get off, so if you’re traveling you’ll need to spend some time washing this so you take a clean cup home. We’ve been enjoying all the special treats made just for Disneyland’s Get Your Ears On celebration, but it wasn’t too long ago — November, in fact — when we were celebrating Mickey Mouse on both coasts! At Ghirardelli in Disney Springs, we dug into the Magical Mickey Sundae just in time for Mickey’s 90th birthday. Its run in Disney World has sadly come to an end, but now the Magical Sundae has arrived at Disneyland’s Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop! Mickey Sundae at Ghirardelli Most notable about this sundae is, of course, the use of chocolate-dipped waffle cone pieces used to evoke Mickey’s iconic ears. And because this is Ghirardelli, these ears are delicious. Crunchy, subtly sweet, and coated in that terrific Ghirardelli chocolate. Mickey Sundae at Ghirardelli Mickey’s ears accompany the sundae part of the Magical Sundae: vanilla ice cream, rich hot fudge, whipped cream, and colorful Mickey sprinkles. Disney World has started testing Smart Speakers in select guest rooms at the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. Currently, guests with a Smart Speaker in their guest room will be able to get information including park hours, bus arrival times, the weather, and more from the speakers. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort The Smart Speakers are voice activated, and not linked to any personal accounts, including My Disney Experience accounts. No registration or set up is required if you are in a room with a Smart Speaker. During this test period, if guests are in a room without a Smart Speaker guests can not request a Smart Speaker in their room. According to Disney Guest Services at the Yacht Club, it is not known if guests can opt-out of the test and be in a room without a Smart Speaker if that’s their preference. Hop in, travelers, for a journey through Storybook Land. The Storybook Land Canal Boats have been a Fantasyland mainstay since the attraction opened in 1956 in Disneyland park. This boat ride takes guests on a tour through a picturesque fantasy realm. Let’s take a closer look! The concept for Storybook Land Canal Boats sprouted from Walt Disney’s love for miniatures. The scale of the buildings is a tiny one inch to one foot. The dwellings are outfitted with six-inch doors with quarter-inch hinges that open and close. The Three Little Pigs make an appearance, straight out of the 1933 cartoon. Fifer, Fiddler and Practical have built their homes here—one of straw, one of sticks, and one of bricks. If you look and listen closely, you can see each of their names inscribed on their mailboxes as the pigs sing “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf.” The attention to detail doesn’t end there. The church in the village from Alice in Wonderland has imported stain glass windows. Walt Disney himself insisted on this little luxury as opposed to a less expensive glass, and the stained glass installed at the construction of the village remains to this day. In the center of the canal is a long, narrow island known as London Park. Based on the film “Peter Pan,” London Park features a golden statue of Peter Pan in the center and miniature benches lining the walkways. In the evening, the park sparkles with tiny twinkling lights. Sitting high upon the hill, the castle at Cinderella’s village looks like it comes straight from a fairy tale illustration. The turrets and finials are covered in 24-karat gold and reflect the light from the sun. If you’re riding at night, you may notice that the windows glow with light, as if a great celebration—or ball—is underway. The most recent addition to Storybook Land is Arendelle, home of famed sisters Anna and Elsa. While Elsa’s ice palace is a sight to see, look for more “Frozen” fun after you pass Pinocchio’s village. As you round the corner to pass under the arched bridge, you might be able to sneak a peek at a small shop in the forest outside of town: Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna. Keep an eye out for their big summer blowouts! With more fairytale magic to be discovered from Disney favorites like “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid,” the Storybook Land Canal Boats can be enjoyed time and time again. Whispering Canyon Cafe has been a staple of fun family dining at Walt Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge for years. Learn About: Whispering Canyon Cafe Disney World Restaurants And I’ve enjoyed a meal and the overall atmosphere many times over the years. This has been the place to go for raucous hijinks like wooden pony races, massive straw drops, and tables overloaded with ketchup bottles. That’s all to say: there has never been much whispering going on at Whispering Canyon Cafe. But it’s a place where fun was front and center, food was decent (although never particularly inspired), and diners knew they’d have a good time. But that history of silliness and play was all in jeopardy last year when Whispering Canyon Cafe got a bit quieter. That’s because — for reasons unknown — Whispering Canyon Cafe toned the fun way down last May. Whispering Canyon Sign Or did they? After we posted about the major changes coming to the Cafe, our readers reported a lot of variation in their dining experiences. Some found the quieter setting, while others still witnessed hijinks. So I headed back to see how things were going. Seating and decor And I’ll say this: the old hijinks were back… sort of. Ketchup bottles still piled up on tables, giant glasses of soda were still being delivered to unsuspecting diners, and ponies were raced. But there was something missing — like the restaurant’s spirit was deflated. The sense of lighthearted fun just wasn’t the same. Pony Races in the Old Days The food, on the other hand, pretty much was. And that means it was fine. Not great, not awful — just hovering in the realm of mediocre and filling. One standout of the meal, however, were the Prospector Nachos. Maybe it’s the flood of queso coating the beef brisket and barbecue pulled pork. All of this (and salsa) top freshly fried tortilla chips. These were good: drippy, hearty, crunchy. What you want from a nacho. Prospector Nachos The Prospector Nachos aren’t expressly needed, of course, because the most popular member of the menu is the All-You-Care-to-Enjoy Skillet (now available in a plant-based variety,too!). The skillet begins with golden cornbread with butter. Nothing spectacular here, this is basic (slightly sweetened) cornbread. Cornbread at Whispering Canyon Cafe The mixed greens with apple vinaigrette is a decent salad. The sweet and tangy dressing makes it a little more interesting that the usual bowl of lettuce. Mixed Greens with Apple Vinaigrette The skillet is, of course, the star. It consists of meat: herb-roasted chicken, barbecue pulled pork. smoked pork ribs, western-style sausage, and oak-smoked beef brisket. And there are plenty of sides: mashed Yukon potatoes, seasonal vegetables (ubiquitous green beans), buttered corn, and cowboy-style baked beans. All-You-Care-to-Enjoy Skillet And look, everything is *okay*. The meats were decent, but borderline dry; the sides were filling but basic (the mashed potatoes were the star here). And I was left feeling a little meh. There’s a lack of thoughtfulness to the food that just doesn’t feel special. And maybe that’s okay if what you’re at Whispering Canyon Cafe for is the entertainment. Dessert was quite good, actually. The Granny Smith Caramel Apple Pie is a thick wedge of pie packed with large chopped apples topped with clumps of cobbler/streusel style topping and drizzled with salty/sweet caramel. Granny Smith Caramel Apple Pie I’ve had it multiple times, and it’s always good. The buttery crust and streusel topping makes all the difference here, offering a counterpoint to the tart apples (plus that giant scoop of ice cream). Granny Smith Caramel Apple Pie So dessert is good. But the meal and the overall experience at Whispering Canyon Cafe just isn’t what it used to be…at least for me…and on this particular visit. As I always say — the only consistent thing about Disney restaurants is that they’re inconsistent. For those visiting for the first time, entering without expectations, it will still be a novelty — a fun meal with silly pranks and filling menu items. It could be really satisfying in that context. And maybe on other nights with different servers it’s still exciting. But for me, it just didn’t hit the mark this time. Don’t Miss Out on Any Disney Fun! We just left Magic Kingdom Park and I can tell you that Walt Disney World Resort is still buzzing about the whirlwind Super Bowl celebration with New England Patriots stars Tom Brady and Julian Edelman. It was a magical day with Brady and Edelman electrifying the celebratory atmosphere, posing for cool photos and experiencing some of our signature attractions, such as Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with a few lucky guests. After that, they headed over to Magic Kingdom Park where they interacted with beloved Disney characters and served as the stars of a colorful Super Bowl parade down Main Street, U.S.A. They even found time to channel their inner Jedi and pose for an out-of-this-world photo at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens this fall. Both superstars donned Jedi robes and wielded lightsabers, striking a pose that would drive fear into the hearts of the First Order. Brady also conducted an engaging TV interview with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan, while Edelman, who earned the Super Bowl MVP award after the Patriots’ 13-3 win Sunday night, conducted several national media interviews as well. It was the ultimate way for them to toast their team’s record-tying sixth Super Bowl victory, which sent them into the NFL record books for most Super Bowl wins. It was a familiar atmosphere for them as it marked the fifth time Patriots stars have celebrated their team’s Super Bowl win at Disney Parks. And it also continued a time-honored tradition of Super Bowl celebrations that stretches back to 1987 when Phil Simms celebrated his team’s Super Bowl win at Walt Disney World Resort. One of my favorite Disney Parks photo spots is at the entrance to Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland park in front of the train station. This is always my first photo stop before I walk onto Main Street, U.S.A. and bid my cares goodbye with a fun-filled day in the park. The anticipation of the day ahead is always obvious in these photos! The Get Your Ears On Celebration at Disneyland has something for everyone, and we found two great options at Harbour Galley. Harbor Galley is a great spot to sit by the Rivers of America and dig into a hearty meal. Harbour Galley Here you can always find a seafood salad or a bread bowl with the latest soup to hit the parks. And the current specialty soup (and Get Your Ears On special menu item!) is Lobster Pot Pie Soup. Lobster Pot Pie Soup The Lobster Pot Pie Soup is packed with lobster, carrots, celery, red potatoes and herbs in a rich and creamy seafood cream sauce served in a classic bread bowl. Lobster Pot Pie Soup We weren’t sure the veggies would be able to compete with rich lobster and thick seafood cream sauce, but they’re chopped into large chunks that make them very noticeable. But unfortunately, the lobster of Lobster Pot Pie Soup isn’t as prominent. Still, it’s flavorful and filling, and if you enjoy seafood stew or lobster bisque, you’ll enjoy this offering! Lobster Pot Pie Soup But if you’re trying to eat a plant-based diet (or want to incorporate more plant-based meals into your diet), Harbour Galley is offering the Vegan Hot Diggity Dog for Get Your Ears On!
