Are you a cotton candy enthusiast? Well, brace yourself — Goofy’s Candy Company at Disney Springs has introduced a whole new range of Gourmet Cotton Candy flavors just in time for the holidays. Lemon Drop Gourmet Cotton Candy The new Gourmet Cotton Candy is a little different from the classic Disney World cotton candy you might be used to. This sweet treat is only here for a limited time, too. Read on to learn all about it! New Gourmet Cotton Candy at Goofy’s Candy Company The cotton candy you normally find around Walt Disney World looks a lot like this Purple Wall Cotton Candy: thick, fluffy, and packed into a convenient plastic bag. Purple Wall Cotton Candy The new Gourmet Cotton Candy, on the other hand, looks like this and comes on a paper cone! Toasted Marshmallow Gourmet Cotton Candy Note: Because this recipe is different from the original cotton candy, Cast Members actually recommend not putting it into a bag. If you do, this Gourmet Cotton Candy has a tendency to shrink and deflate quickly. While the traditional cotton candy will keep for a few days, this gourmet version is best enjoyed immediately. Gourmet Cotton Candy Station Each order is made by hand at its own special station within Goofy’s Candy Company. This recipe uses natural flavors and colors, so you won’t find any vivid pink, purple, and blue hues here. At $5.49 per order, Gourmet Cotton Candy is slightly more expensive than regular cotton candy. Gourmet Cotton Candy Flavors The flavor list is extensive! Choose from Berry Smoothie, Birthday Cake, Bubble Gum, Cinnamon Bun, Cookie Dough, Lemon Drop, Mango, Pink Lemonade, Strawberry, Toasted Marshmallow, Gingerbread Man, Candy Cane, and Egg Nog. The holiday flavors, Gingerbread Man, Candy Cane, and Egg Nog, are also available on the Christmas Tree Trail. Gourmet Cotton Candy Station We tried the Toasted Marshmallow (because who can resist!?) and Lemon Drop (based on Cast Member recommendation) flavors. Both were delicious! The Toasted Marshmallow was our favorite, but people who enjoy lemon flavor that’s more sweet than sour will really like the Lemon Drop. As most cotton candy tends to be, it’s very sweet. Toasted Marshmallow Gourmet Cotton Candy The texture was noticeably different than the standard cotton candy recipe, too. The Gourmet Cotton Candy is more airy, but it’s also more firm and a bit stickier. Lemon Drop Gourmet Cotton Candy If you’re looking for a sweet snack to enjoy while strolling through Disney Springs or enjoying the Christmas Tree Trail, the new Gourmet Cotton Candy is definitely a fun option. We’re loving the abundant (and we mean abundant — three snack checklists worth!) holiday eats and drinks at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. We found the brand new Sugar Plum Churro at the snack cart by Haunted Mansion! Sugar Plum Churro We very often enjoy the special event churros, but this lovely purple version tasted synthetic and fake. Definitely not a pleasant snacking experience. They’re pretty and fun to Instagram with the Haunted Mansion as a backdrop, but we don’t recommend munching on this one. Sugar Plum Churro Sorry, Sugar Plum Churro: you should really remain visions dancing in our heads rather than snacks filling up our mouths. Fear not! We’re checking out the Holiday Eats at Disneyland’s Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square! New Orleans Square in Disneyland It’s no secret that Cafe Orleans is one of our favorite places to dine in all of Disneyland. That’s due both to its cool history in the park and iconic dishes. You can take a full tour to learn why we love it so much here. Cafe Orleans sign But our purpose today? To sample the specialty holiday items on the menu for the Holidays at Disneyland Resort! While the specialty holiday treats and eats span far and wide around both parks and the Resort’s hotels, Cafe Orleans offerings include Braised Beef and Grits and Lumps of Coal Beignets! Cafe Orleans Holiday Menu Offerings The Braised Beef and Grits takes nicely tender beef and plates it on top of a generous pile of cheese grits. The dish is further topped with caramelized onion, pickled radish, and salsa verde. Braised Beef and Grits Not only is the tender beef really well prepared, but the flavors are terrific. It’s a super savory dish with a hint of spice from the pickled radish and salsa verde, while the touch of sweetness from the caramelized onions adds even a little more complexity. This is a great dish. The Lumps of Coal Beignets are peppermint mocha-stuffed beignets topped with peppermint ice cream. The beignets are dusted with espresso, and the ice cream is topped with crushed candy cane. Lumps of Coal Beignets When looking at the list of all the holiday eats in Disneyland, this was one of the items I found most intriguing. I love me some Cafe Orleans Beignets, and the festive twist is really creative and fun, reminding us of what Santa will put in our stockings if we misbehave in those days leading up to Christmas . What could go wrong? Lumps of Coal Beignets Everything, apparently. Not only were the beignets cold, they also tasted dry and stale. The peppermint ice cream is tasty, but as the finishing touch, the dish isn’t worth ordering just for that. As always, this dish could improve with time once the kinks are worked out. But going forward we’ll be passing on the (appropriately named) Lumps of Coal, and sticking with the classic Beignets that Cafe Orleans is known for. That said, Cafe Orleans still tops our list as one of our absolute favorites in all of Disneyland. Find out why in our DFB YouTube Video! With a name like Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe you know there will be jolly sweet treats in store for you! That’s exactly what we found at our stop here on our Holiday Food Crawl around the Disneyland Resort! Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe This holiday season the Jolly Holiday Bakery has five sweet treats on their limited-time Holiday menu. And you know we tried all five of them! Right away, Jolly Holiday wins the award this season for cutest treats. Santa’s hat is re-created in a macaron with a peppermint filling. Jolly Holiday Santa Hat Macaron This Santa Hat Macaron was perfectly baked, and, with the peppermint filling, was straight-up Christmas. The Disneyland menu says that it’s supposed to have a “wall of rich chocolate ganache,” but that was nowhere to be found in our macaron. This is a good one if you’re looking for a simple and very sweet treat, and if you’re seriously loving the peppermint bomb that’s gone off in Disneyland. But if you’re not a big peppermint fan, save your dough for something else. Jolly Holiday Santa Hat Macaron Next up is the cutest treat we tried this week — the Holiday Brownie. That Christmas tree is a white-chocolate coated mini ice cream cone (sans ice cream, of course)! The frosting is a white chocolate mousse — which I’ve been seeing as a replacement for buttercream in numerous places in Disneyland this holiday season. Jolly Holiday Brownie This brownie is pretty standard — dense, but not very memorable. The mousse is chilly with a smooth, silky texture — an interesting foil for the brownie. But while this one is super cute, it’s definitely NOT a must-get. Jolly Holiday Brownie The Eggnog Latte Cheesecake comes with a white chocolate foam (sticking with the latte theme) and nutmeg sprinkles. Jolly Holiday Eggnog Latte Cheesecake The cheesecake is rich and creamy, with a very strong eggnog flavor. Almost too strong. If you’re not a big ol’ eggnog fan, you need to skip this one. But if you love that distinct Christmas drink, this one is definitely for you. Jolly Holiday Eggnog Latte Cheesecake The Vanilla Bean Cupcake is very cute, with swirls of green and white mousse (again — no buttercream) and a white chocolate disc on the top fashioned to look like a peppermint candy. The Disneyland menu says it’s supposed to be filled with red and green chocolate candy pieces…but…once again…those were nowhere to be found. In fact, this guy was pretty tiny. I’m not sure where there would even be room for a filling of chocolate candy pieces. This one is a hard pass from us unless they add those candy pieces or something else to give it some flair. Currently, it’s just a grocery store cupcake…without any real frosting. Jolly Holiday Vanilla Bean Cupcake Our last treat is also available at the Market House and several other locations throughout Disneyland Resort. The Snowman Shortbread Cookie was honestly the best thing we tried at Jolly Holiday on this visit. And while this little guy was delicious, he’s not worth trekking to Jolly Holiday for exclusively. Snowman Shortbread Cookie So, Jolly Holiday was kind of a bust for us with these holiday treats. Cute, but not substantive…and certainly not crave-worthy! Don’t waste your $$$$. Pacific Wharf Cafe is in on the Christmas and holiday action this season with some seasonally-themed comfort food. This is a bread-lover’s stop on the Disneyland Holiday Food Crawl. Pacific Wharf Cafe Christmas Specialties This is where you can get your Snowman or Candy Cane shaped bread this season. (Seriously, this place always SMELLS SO GOOD!) And while we were here we dove into their hearty soup in a bread bowl. How does this sound for comfort food: Turkey Pot Pie Soup in a Bread Bowl. Bring it on! Turkey Pot Pie Soup in a Bread Bowl This isjust as good as it sounds, and was probably one of our team’s top five from the Disneyland holiday eats checklists! Creamy, super-flavorful turkey chowder included big chunks of turkey and lots of veggies. It really tasted like the inside of a pot pie. As always, not only is the soup a winner, but that house-made sourdough bread bowl is the perfect complement. Turkey Pot Pie Soup in a Bread Bowl Of course, being at Pacific Wharf Cafe, we had to try the Seasonal Bread Pudding. Cranberry Bread Pudding The Seasonal Bread Pudding is a Cranberry Bread Pudding. It is topped with a butter crumble, whipped cream and an orange white chocolate sauce. Pair this with the Turkey soup and you’ve basically had a very delicious version of Thanksgiving dinner! Cranberry Bread Pudding As if one dessert wasn’t enough, we had two here! We couldn’t resist this guy! Gingerbread Man Soft, ginger-y, molasses-y — you can’t go wrong with this. We appreciated that it wasn’t coated in frosting. There’s enough there to give a hint of sweet to this spice cookie. You’ll find him in several places around Disneyland and Disney California Adventure this year. Earlier, we brought you the news that Hungry Bear Restaurant in Disneyland introduced an all-new menu. Today, as promised, we’re back with a review! Cherry Coca Cola Funnel Cake With so many great new eats and treats coming to Disneyland this holiday season, it can be challenging to choose! We’re here to help with some recommendations on what you should pick and what you can skip of the new menu items at Hungry Bear Restaurant. Hungry Bear Menu The menu at Hungry Bear now offers a variety of sandwiches and burgers, a salad, and several desserts. Honey-Spiced Chicken Sandwich First up: the Honey-Spiced Chicken Sandwich. This one features crispy chicken, lettuce, and sweet and spicy spread. Available sides include fries, house slaw, or onion rings. While the sandwich was definitely spicy (in addition to the spread, it seemed to have some kind of spicy rub or dust on it), ours was dry, overcooked, and stale. Womp womp. I can see how this could be good — the flavors were there — but it felt like it’d be sitting around WAY too long in the kitchen. So I’d be nervous to try it again! The next new dish we tried was Messy Melvin’s Vegan Specialty Burger. It’s a vegan patty topped with stewed vegetables served with fries or house slaw. Messy Melvin’s Vegan Specialty Burger OK, I’ll be honest. NOTHING about this seemed appetizing from the description. But after taking a few tentative bites we were really surprised! Messy Melvin’s Vegan Specialty Burger The bun, unfortunately, was super stale and detracted significantly from the sandwich; but once we ditched the bun and started eating with a fork and knife, the great flavors of the burger and topping came through. Vegans and vegetarians should high tail it over to Hungry Bear for this one! On to the brand new Cherry Cola funnel cake! This one wasn’t on the menu on our visit, so you may have to ask about it. Cherry Coca Cola Funnel Cake So this sounds like it should be delicious, right? Or at least interesting? Well for both of us taste-testing this it was a hard pass. A definite NO after even the first bite. The flavor was strange and very artificial tasting, and this was our least favorite item from Hungry Bear Restaurant. We recommend ordering the tried and true Churro Funnel Cake instead! Churro Bites Sign Speaking of Churros…this was the main reason we’d come to Hungry Bear! We couldn’t leave without trying the Churro Bites with Eggnog Gelato and Caramel Sauce. Again, the Eggnog flavor here was super pronounced, but not overwhelmingly so. The gelato’s creaminess cut the eggnog spices enough that the flavor was complementary rather than cutting. The churro bites were tender and soft on the inside and pleasantly crispy on the outside — a welcome change from the sometimes overdone churros in the park. But it was the caramel sauce that brought everything together here. It was a thick, rich caramel as opposed to a watery drizzle. The flavor and texture strengthened dish into an established and cohesive dessert rather than just a pile of churro bites with ice cream on the side. It’s hard to explain, but just know that it’s highly recommended! ;-D Churro Bites So, Hungry Bear overall was kind of a flop — with the spicy chicken sandwich and cherry cola funnel cake earning a giant thumbs down from us. Salt & Straw Handmade Ice Cream in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney is a small-batch ice creamery serving up some seriously provocative and surprising flavors. Salt & Straw And right now this beloved franchise is offering Thanksgiving combinations that we’re pretty sure Grandma never put on the table, in ice cream or otherwise! Salt & Straw For the month of November, guests can enjoy The Thanksgiving Series. (Official DFB rule: all seasonal things should now be a ‘Series’.) Thanksgiving Menu at Salt & Straw Limited Edition flavors include… wait for it… Roasted Peach and Sage Cornbread Stuffing, Salted Caramel Thanksgiving Turkey (!!!), and Spiced Goat Cheese and Pumpkin Pie. Salt & Straw Limited Edition First things first: how are they getting turkey into an ice cream in a way that isn’t horrifying? The mad scientists at Salt & Straw take crispy roasted turkey skin, add it to candy brittle, and then mix the brittle into salted caramel ice cream. Suffice to say, this does not taste like straight-up turkey, but the slight saltiness of the skin brittle works with the mildly sweet ice cream! The salted caramel is a total bonus! Salted Caramel Thanksgiving Turkey So, yeah, turkey ice cream is a thing, and it’s delicious. Seriously LOVED it. Same for the Roasted Peach and Sage Cornbread Stuffing, which strikes a careful balance between the herb, the fruit, and the cornbread. It is awesome! (But not as good as the Turkey.) Roasted Peach and Sage Cornbread Stuffing Of the three limited edition flavors, the last — Spiced Goat Cheese and Pumpkin Pie — might be the least funky option, and it also works! Spiced Goat Cheese and Pumpkin Pie There are big, obvious ribbons of house-made pumpkin pie in this ice cream that will satisfy any craving for the Thanksgiving staple! Pumpkin Pie Ribbons I think you’ll have to get used to us saying this about Salt & Straw: the flavors don’t sound harmonious or tasty, but they absolutely are. Disneyland is making sure we don’t go hungry this holiday season! Between California Adventure’s Festival of Holidays and all of the holiday sweet and savory treats in both parks we are on another epic food crawl! Our latest stop is at California Adventure’s Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land for Luigi’s Chicken Pesto Cone. Cozy Cone Motel! The Cozy Cone let Luigi in the kitchen and he whipped up an Italian inspired cone (he is a Fiat after all). Luigi’s cone includes creamy pesto alfredo pasta, marinated chicken, balsamic reduction, bruschetta tomatoes, and romano cheese. Sounds delicious to us before we even take a bite! Creamy, cheesy, all wrapped in carbs — sign us up! Luigi’s Chicken Pesto Cone Take a look at this! There’s more cheese on there than is in the photo, already a plus for us. There’s a good serving of the bruschetta tomatoes as well. Luigi’s Chicken Pesto Cone Time to dive in. This dish is delicious — we’d go far as to say super yummy. We loved the balance of all of the flavors in there along with the marinated chicken. Luigi’s Chicken Pesto Cone This does have a little kick to it, if you’re very spice adverse you may want to steer clear (really bad Cars pun, we know!) of this, but the spice is not overwhelming or burn your lips spicy. The holiday season is in full swing at Disneyland. And we found another way to add festive cheer to your day! Introducing the Holiday Mickey Light-up Bottle-Topper! Holiday Mickey Light Up Straw This souvenir reusable bottle topper ($6.50) features Mickey as a snowman, complete with scarf and hat (HE LOOKS LIKE A SNO SNOW, RIGHT?!?), and twists easily onto soda and water bottles in place of their regular cap. Holiday Mickey Light-up Straw with the Light On As you can see, when turned on, Mickey lights up the night from atop your bottle. There are two separate speeds — consistent light, and a pulse glow option. The holidays are in full effect at Disney Parks on both coasts, and Disney California Adventure Park’s Flo’s V-8 Cafe is in on the action with a trio of holiday-specific menu items. Oil Filter Roof — Up Close Unfortunately, Flo’s trio isn’t revving up any engines here at the DFB. First up, a perfectly average chocolate shake with a sprinkling of peppermint bits called, well, a Chocolate Peppermint Shake. Chocolate Peppermint Shake In addition to the peppermint bits, which add some festive color on top but very little flavor once they’re mixed in, the pre-mixed chocolate shake is also topped with whipped cream and chocolate cookie crumbles. Chocolate Peppermint Shake We enjoy the look — it’s a bit funky and fun — but we found this to be a snore. If you’re looking to dip your toe into holiday treats, this one will suit the mediocre bill. Chocolate Peppermint Shake The 4″ Chocolate Peppermint Pie is another disappointment, unfortunately. It looks the part of a holiday treat, complete with a miniature candy cane. Chocolate Peppermint Pie But basically this is just a mound of peppermint whipped cream/pudding/frosting (it seemed like a mix of the three, so I’m not 100% sure which one it was) on top of a regular chocolate pie. It’s cute and fun, but nothing to rush over to Flo’s to get. Chocolate Peppermint Pie The cross-section does show a great pie to filling ratio, but it was really one-note and kind of blah. The pie, for its part, is a super thin chocolate pie crust filled with dense chocolate filling. But…meh overall. Chocolate Peppermint Pie Flo’s savory holiday option is the Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich. And given the vibe of Flo’s, this should be a hit — a diner-ready plate of carbs and gravy. But… there’s nothing to see here, folks. It’s toasted bread with a pile of admittedly good mashed potatoes, two slices of not-very-flavorful turkey, and some standard turkey gravy. Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich This sandwich is Flo’s Blue Plate Special, but you’ll want to pass. There’s nothing interesting to contrast the muddled turkey sandwich flavors. If they’d thrown in some cranberry sauce, it would’ve been improved. As is? No, thanks. Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich Flo’s earned three strikes with her holiday offerings this year, so you’ll want to cruise on by, letting her cafe disappear in your rearview mirror. Calling all gingerbread lovers! Today we’re bringing you one of the latest holiday offerings at Schmoozies in Disney California Adventure as part of the holiday eats around Disneyland Resort. You won’t want to miss this one! New Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Schmoozies! Schmoozies in Hollywood Land just debuted a tasty selection of Christmas-inspired treats and the Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich gets two thumbs up. It’s one of four new seasonal treats added to their menu during Disney’s Festival of the Holidays happening now at Disney California Adventure. Holiday Menu at Schmoozies! Even if you don’t consider yourself a gingerbread fanatic, we think you’ll love this. The brown sugar cinnamon ice cream adds the perfect amount of sweet to balance out the spice in the gingerbread. Schmoozies Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich With the crushed gingerbread cookies on the outside, this frozen treat is creamy, chewy, crunchy, and sweet (with a little spice) all in one bite. And how cute is that little chocolate gingerbread man on top!? Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Schmoozies! At $4.49, it’s the least expensive of the holiday items on menu at Schmoozies. As for portion size, it’s plenty to enjoy on your own to cure that holiday sweet tooth…if you can eat it fast enough before the ice cream melts! But totally sharable, too. Celebrate the 12 Beers of Christmas with Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto at Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs! Morimoto Asia On Sunday, December 2nd, the 12 Beers of Christmas will feature several stations of holiday-themed beers from local breweries with pairings of Pan-Asian bites at each station. Featured breweries will include Crooked Can Brewing Company, Rogue Ales, Coppertail Brewing Company, Red Light Red Light, Bowigens, Cask & Larder, Red Cypress, 3 Daughters, Baird Brewing, Hourglass Brewing, Motorworks Brewing, and Orange County Brewery. Food pairings will include Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Yakisoba, Yakitori, Gyoza, various Dim Sum, raw bar varietie sand multiple types of ramen and sushi. ©Morimoto Asia Your host for the event? Schmoozies in Disney California Adventure is known for serving up some doozies! Minnie Wreath Donut at Schmoozies! And its current specialty menu for the Holidays at Disneyland Resort is no exception. I stopped by today while I’m in Disneyland for the Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure. Holiday Menu at Schmoozies On my visit I had to grab the Minnie Wreath Donut. Like most seasonal donuts you’ll find at Schmoozies, it’s like a little art piece! Minnie Wreath Donut The green icing, M&M candies, and crushed candy cane make up the wreath, topped with a chocolate polka dot Minnie bow. Minnie Wreath Donut The “flaky donut” beneath the icing is pretty much like a buttery cronut, only without the dusting of cinnamon-sugar. And I’m a fan! Minnie Wreath Donut Tucked inside the layers is a chocolate peppermint ganache, which provides a unique flavor punch within the otherwise standard donut/cronut flavor. For something called a ganache, it has a light and airy quality as opposed to a thicker density. Minnie Wreath Donut At $8.99, it’s pricey for a donut, but it’s also tasty and cute and HUGE. This one is definitely sharable. And fans of peppermint can also consider the Peppermint Crunch Shake or the unique Peppermint Affogato, which pours espresso over peppermint ice cream for a warm-meets-cold caffeinated treat! Stay tuned for reviews! So it’s peppermint (and gingerbread!) season at Schmoozies, and there’s no shortage of festive flavors to go around! We’re big fans of The BOATHOUSE in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs, so when we spot a new dessert on the menu, we get kind of excited. And in this case, we spied something pretty awesome on The BOATHOUSE’s Instagram account. The Boathouse Sign Macadamia Turtle Pie is a slice of pie unlike any we’ve seen before. With an enormous crescent of Homer’s Vanilla Ice Cream atop a Macadamia Nut Vanilla Wafer Crust and served with rivers of Chocolate and Caramel Sauces, the Macadamia Turtle Pie is meant to be shared. Macadamia Turtle Pie The knife is a little gruesome, but from what we can tell, you’ll need it if you plan to attack this gigantic dessert!
