To commemorate the occasion, the Anaheim Ducks are taking over Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure park with meet and greets, hockey-themed activities, photo opportunities, special decor and more! Here’s a run-down of the day’s events: Fan Headquarters, Stage 17 – 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Visit Stage 17 to check out a selection of Anaheim Ducks memorabilia from the past 25 years, including jerseys, sticks, helmets, trophies and more. While you are there, test your hockey skills, or challenge your friends to air and table hockey. A very special mascot will also be there for greetings and photo opportunities. Cavalcade, Hollywood Land – 1:15 p.m. Pick a spot along either Hollywood Boulevard or Buena Vista Street to see some of your favorite Anaheim Ducks players in a cavalcade! Meet & Greet with Players and Alumni, Stage 12 – 2:15, 3:15, 4:15 pm Bring your camera-ready smiles and see some of your favorite hockey stars outside Stage 12.* Event Merchandise, Stage 17 – 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Outside Stage 17, pick up special Anaheim Ducks Day merchandise, including apparel and baseball caps, as well as limited-edition prints, coins, pins and hockey pucks. What’s this I spy with my little eye? Why, it’s a Gondola for the Disney Skyliner! Disney Skyliner Gondola This new form of Walt Disney World transportation will start carrying guests this fall! We’ve been following construction progress on the various stations for the system which will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four Resorts: Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach and the upcoming Disney’s Riviera Resort. But here at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios station is the first time we’ve spotted an actual gondola in place! There’s so much to do this year at Disneyland Paris, including the return of seasonal favorites! Legends of the Force – A Celebration of Star Wars brings to life epic moments from the Star Wars saga. At Walt Disney Studios Park, guests can witness a marching procession of First Order Stormtroopers led by Captain Phasma, encounter the legendary Chewbacca for the first time ever, and watch daytime and nighttime shows that pay spectacular homage to stories of the Star Wars galaxy. At Disneyland Park, the legend continues as guests head straight to the heart of intergalactic battle in Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. The more adventurous can confront Darth Vader himself and brave the power of the dark side. Actor John Boyega – who plays Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi – recently encountered a few Stormtroopers himself on a recent visit to Disneyland Paris. Needless to say, Legends of the Force – A Celebration of Star Wars is an unforgettable experience Star Wars fans of all ages won’t want to miss! For an adventure of a different kind, guests can join in the festivities for the returning Festival of Pirates and Princesses at Disneyland Park. The highlight of the season is an interactive show called Disney Pirate or Princess: Make Your Choice! Minnie Mouse leads an acrobatic extravaganza of Disney pirates down Main Street, U.S.A. and comes face-to-face with Mickey Mouse and a Disney Princess Regalia in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The epic grand finale invites everyone to choose a side and join in song and dance. Guests can also transform into their favorite pirate or princess with fun costumes and face painting, then join in pirate recruitment sessions led by Jack Sparrow in Adventureland or meet Disney royalty at the enchanting Princess Promenade. Gran Destino Tower opens this summer, and sitting atop this grand new expansion to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood. The unique restaurant will offer a menu featuring dishes and small plates inspired by the flavors of Spain. Guests of Toledo will enjoy a surrealistic rooftop dining experience along with classic tapas, steaks, seafood, and delightful desserts. An on-stage tapas kitchen will serve charcuteríá and cheeses as well as pintxos (small plates) and cazuelas (soups). House boards include a cured meat selection, an artisanal manchego cheese selection, and a grand platter of signature artisanal meats and mixed cheeses. The pintxos selections feature an array of items like Salt Cod-stuffed Piquillo Peppers with goat cheese and toast, Olive Oil-poached Tuna, and Tortilla de Día wrapped in jamón serrano. Cazuelas include options such as Shrimp Pil Pil, Charred Octopus with romesco and chimichurri, and Rioja-braised Chorizo with field onions.. If you’re looking for larger appetizers, you can enjoy several selections including Heirloom Tomatoes with stone fruit and farmer cheese, Jamón Serrano with compressed melon, and Savory Churros. For the entrées, guests can enjoy Wine-braised Chicken and steak lovers can savor the Hanger Steak with crushed new potatoes or the Manhattan Filet. There’s also the Rib-Eye For Two – an aged, hand-cut 32-ounce Spanish chuletón for two. The restaurant will serve 100% sustainable seafood with options such as Scallops with hummus, olives, and roasted carrots and Golden Tile Fish with petite potatoes and cauliflower. There’s also a creative plant-based take on a seafood platter that includes mushroom scallops, calamari, and ceviche as well as hearts of palm crab cake. For a sweet ending to your meal, try one of several unique signature desserts created by Disney’s Master Pastry Chef: Classic Crema Catalana with Valencia oranges and chocolate tuile, “Café con Leche” Choux with dark chocolate mousse and vanilla “nata montada,” and “The Toledo Tapas Bar” – a progressive bite-sized sweet tasting, tapas style, featuring a crunchy chocolate bar with bite-sized flavors of Spanish coffee mousse, chocolate cake, “frambuesa” raspberry mousse, and lemon curd. Kids can also enjoy Mickey-shaped raspberry mousse topped with yummy strawberries. There’s even a plant-based dessert option on the menu. The Chocolate Avocado Mousse with strawberry-basil sorbet and coconut crumble is a decadent option that you definitely won’t want to miss out on. The beverage menu shines the spotlight on Spanish and California wines with over 75 selections hand-selected by our Master Sommelier. Other drinks include handcrafted cocktails such as the “Gin Tonic” with house-made saffron tonic and sangria as well as beers and ciders from Spanish and American Craft Breweries, a selection of non-alcoholic artisanal cocktails, and dinner beverages showcasing Spanish coffees, brandies, and dessert wines. We’re back at Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs for the debut of several new offerings at the Disney Springs restaurant headed by celebrity Chef Rick Bayless! Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs While you can always find classics on the menu such as Carnitas, Queso Fundido, and more, Frontera Cocina has a great reputation for switching up offerings on a fairly frequent basis, so you will likely always find something new when you visit. Door handles at Frontera Cocina We were invited to taste items from the new Taste of Mexico City menu along with some seasonal offerings at Frontera Cocina, and are excited to share them with you today. Remember that these menu items are served a la carte, so you don’t need to order an entire prix fixe meal here — you can mix and match items as you please! Taste of Mexico City We’ll begin the Taste of Mexico City offerings with the Shrimp Ceviche Tostadas. Taste of Mexico City menu The Shrimp Ceviche Tostadas bring together ceviche made with Florida Pink Shrimp, sun-dried tomato, crunchy jicama olives, serrano chiles, lime, and cilantro with tostadas in a fun fashion with a slice of lime served on the side. Shrimp Ceviche Tostadas (The Chef always recommends a fresh squeeze of lime juice on top!) Fresh Lime This delicious dish is complete with an avocado spread, and the reason anything made with avocado tastes so good at Frontera Cocina (case in point: any of the Guacamole varieties) is because they are never frozen here. Shrimp Ceviche Tostadas You could also really taste the sweetness from the jicama, adding another flavor variation. The Swordfish al Pastor brings back the swordfish we loved from the last specialty menu in a new way: grilled swordfish is prepared with “pastor” flavors of red chile, garlic, and achiote and presented with plantain rice and a smoky pineapple-chipotle salsa. Swordfish al Pastor Once again, it doesn’t disappoint. The fish was prepared perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. Swordfish al Pastor And the combination of pineapple and onion complements the dish very well. Swordfish al Pastor Tacos are always a great option here, often plated so you can prepare them yourself at the table. The Pork Belly for Making Soft Tacos, though, is an unexpected departure from your typical taco fillings! Pork Belly for Making Soft Tacos Our server explained that the recommended way of assembling the tacos is spreading the refried black beans over the warm corn tortilla first, followed by a layer of the pork belly topped with guacamole. Warm Corn Tortillas A three chile agave salsa is also dished up for a final touch, but only if you desire some spice because it carries a nice, strong kick! Three Chile Agave Sauce The pork belly itself presented that terrific soft-yet-crispy texture. We likened the sauce on the pork to a Mexican barbecue sauce because you could taste the smokiness from the bacon and chile while also picking up on a hint of sweetness. Pork Belly for Making Soft Tacos A new dessert option, the Mexican Chocolate “Flan” (made panna cotta style) sets itself apart from the usual flan with the inclusion of dark chocolate with Mexican cinnamon and sweet plantains. Mexican Chocolate “Flan” Cajeta caramel and tasted almonds along with a spicy cinnamon sugar complete the dish. Mexican Chocolate “Flan” The entire flan is topped off with salt which resulted in kicking up the flavors a notch! We’ve grown to accustomed to looking forward to the cocktails that come along with the specialty menus. The Taste of Mexico City features the Dark Aztec Margarita with Montelobos mezcal, charcoaled pineapple lime juice, homemade piloncillo syrup and mole bitters finished with a powdered peanut rim. Dark Aztec Margarita We’ve tried other drinks with mezcal at Frontera Cocina with their distinctive super smoky flavor. The difference with the Dark Mezcal Margarita is that the lime, pineapple, and piloncillo serve to tone down the smokiness so it comes through more in the aftertaste. Dark Aztec Margarita The bitterness from the mole and the sweet and salty rim were very light, but very good. La Bandera, on the other hand, brings its sweetness to the forefront with this mix of El Velo blanco tequila, prickly pear puree, orange liqueur and lemon juice finished with a lime foam and garnished with cilantro. Though the alcohol is very much present, the flavor emphasis is on the fruitiness of the drink. La Bandera The freshly made lime foam on the top was a great touch. Surprisingly, it kept its integrity throughout the drink so the fresh lime flavor came through at the top of every sip. La Trajinera Flight is, first of all, unique in its presentation in a mini version of a wooden raft like you might see in Mexico City. La Trajinera Flight La Trajinera Flight presentation And the flavors are strong. Take note that you really do need to appreciate and enjoy the taste of mezcal because the Flight is comprised of two straight shots of mezcal (Montelobos Tobala and Bozal ensamble) served with one chaser shot of Suave de Agave Sangrita. La Trajinera Flight The Sangrita offers a really pleasant sweet and spicy mix which nicely complements the mezcal (and honestly, I would’ve loved more of it). La Trajinera Flight Overall, the Taste of Mexico City presents several fun and new ways to enjoy the delicious flavors served at Frontera Cocina! Winter Seasonal Menu We still have a few more additions to check out thanks to the current Seasonal Menu items. Seasonal Menu The Winter Green Ensalada combines shaved black kale and Arcadian lettuce with grilled pineapple, toasted pepitas, Cotija cheese, red onions, jicama, and a roasted tomatillo-serrano vinaigrette. Winter Green Ensalada It has a nice kick to it, with an enjoyable spiciness alongside the pineapple. The Three Chile Roasted Brussels Sprouts are served with crispy bacon and Cotija cheese. Three Chile Roasted Brussels Sprouts These were one of the real surprises of the evening. Basically, it’s difficult to pick a favorite from the new selections, but if I had to, this might be it. We noticed it seemed to be a huge hit with both the guests and servers. Three Chile Roasted Brussels Sprouts The sheer amount of flavor was insane, and it hit on both the fried crispy and soft textures. Three Chile Roasted Brussels Sprouts Finally, we have the Café de Olla Sorbet. Straight off the bat, you absolutely need to be a coffee lover for this sorbet blend of Mexican coffee, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, and orange zest. Café de Olla Sorbet The hints of brown sugar, clove, and orange in the dessert were lovely, and think it would have been nice to have even more of the orange come through in the taste. (In fact, I dined with someone who was not a huge coffee fan, but kept eating the sorbet because these additional flavors were so delicious.) Café de Olla Sorbet But what was most striking was the fresh, true coffee flavor here. You know how coffee ice cream typically has an artificial flavor to it? Not here. The flavor is very fresh and very strong. As you can tell, even if you’ve already visited Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs, Chef Bayless and the team here will always offer you plenty of new and tasty reasons to come back! I’m a very big fan of Chef José Andrés and all of his restaurants, and I can’t be more excited about the opening of Jaleo at Disney Springs. But today, I’m so happy to announce that José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup will also be opening one of the first-ever brick-and-mortar location of Pepe by José Andrés, inspired by the popular Washington DC food truck of the same name. Pepe by José Andrés, located right next to Jaleo at Disney Springs, will feature an extensive menu of hot and cold Spanish-style sandwiches including bocatas and bikinis, showcasing the best of José’s native country Spain. Some of the delicious highlights include: Pollo Frito, made with breaded chicken breast, alioli, bravas sauce, piparra peppers, gem lettuce, and sherry dressing Serrano y Manchego, served on crispy Pan de Cristal with tomato fresco Bocata de Vegetales, made with roasted peppers, onion, green asparagus, spinach, and manchego cheese on Pan de Cristal In addition to the sandwiches, Pepe will serve salads, soups and sides along with Spanish sangria. The walls of Pepe are decorated with an elaborate mural by Marc Jesús, a famous Menorcan painter, featuring his ever-happy, blue-skinned female characters. When ThinkFoodGroup recently shared new concept art for Jaleo by Chef José Andrés coming to Disney Springs, it was also revealed that a Quick Service option would be serving Spanish street food-inspired sandwiches and salads on the main promenade of Disney Springs when it opens this winter. ©José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup And now ThinkFoodGroup has revealed that the grab-and-go location will be Pepe by José Andrés! This will be the first Pepe location outside of the Chef’s popular food truck. The Disney Springs location, however, will be located in a front corner of the Jaleo building. Shanghai Disneyland has announced an expansion to the Resort: construction on a “Zootopia”-themed land is set to begin later this year! This expansion (the second major expansion since the Resort opened in 2016) will become the park’s eighth themed land. It will also be the first “Zootopia”-themed land in a Disney park. Today, Shanghai Disney Resort announced that a “Zootopia”-themed land is coming to Shanghai Disneyland, marking the second major expansion since the resort opened in 2016. Based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit animated movie, this exciting development will be the park’s eighth themed land and the first-ever “Zootopia”-themed land at any Disney park. Guests will be invited to experience the mammalian metropolis of Zootopia “where anyone can be anything,” with a new major attraction that will seamlessly blend Disney storytelling and state-of-the-art technology to bring this fan-favorite movie and its characters to life – including Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Entertainment, merchandise, and food and beverage offerings will invite guests to fully immerse themselves in the Academy-Award-winning animated movie. Love is definitely in the air at the Disneyland Resort! Starting today through Feb. 18, come and celebrate love for Valentine’s month. Upon entering Disneyland park, you will find a new flower “portrait” greeting you, along with festive Valentine’s décor along Main Street, U.S.A. and a “sweethearts” photo moment in Town Square. In addition, you can also participate in Minnie’s Valentine’s Surprise, a special scavenger hunt experience in Disneyland park. This fun activity puts your investigative skills to the test. Minnie has hidden secret valentines for Mickey throughout the park, and it’s your job to find them! Once you have purchased a commemorative map and stickers at select merchandise locations, go searching for the hidden valentines. Upon completion, return your completed map to Disney Showcase to redeem a special Valentine’s surprise. We finally found them! The DFB team has been on the lookout for the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars in our grocery stores at home ever since we found out about them. At last, we found our first box in a Tampa, FL-area Publix! Mickey Ice Cream Bars at Home We were lucky enough to grab the second-to last box of Mickey Ice Cream Bars on the shelf for $7.99. Now the big question, are these as good at home as they are in the park? After celebrating the fact we finally found these, it was time to open the box and try these out! Mickey Ice Cream Bars at Home These bars are noticeably smaller than the in-park version of the bars — which we were OK with since we are at home…and calories count at home, unlike on a Disney vacation! The in-park bars are 4 oz. each, with the at-home bars being 3 oz. each. Mickey Ice Cream Bars at Home Nestle Mickey Ice Cream Bar in the parks Other than the size difference these bars look and taste the same to us. The chocolate coating is a nice, crunchy milk chocolate. The ice cream is creamy and vanilla-y. Together they make a sweet snack or end to a meal. These will be a really nice at-home indulgence and reminder of our trips to the parks. Mickey Ice Cream Bars at Home The at-home version of the Mickey Ice Cream Bars are made with light ice cream, offering half the fat and third fewer calories than the in-park, full fat Mickey Ice Cream Bars. We didn’t notice a difference in taste between the low fat ice cream in the at-home version versus the all the calories and fat in-park version.
