What is the Temple of the Forbidden Eye? Who is Mara? And, will you ready to uncover all the secrets that one of Disneyland‘s most popular rides has to offer?? If you use the Play Disney Parks app, you just might be. The Disneyland Annual Passholder Twitter has hinted at NEW Indiana Jones games and puzzles (it is our destiny to play!!) coming to Play Disney Parks soon! ©Disney The Indiana Jones Adventure follows the archaeologist himself as he tries to rescue you from Mara’s grasp, utilizing the same ride vehicle technology as Dinosaur in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Obvs, there’s a reason we love both attractions so much! ©Disney Although Disneyland has announced that they’re doing some major updates to the Indiana Jones Adventure in 2020 with all the recent break-downs, we’re excited to be getting a lil sumthin’ new and exciting to pass the time in the queue! Indiana Jones Hieroglyphics But, until the release of the Play Disney Parks games for the ride, you can still keep an eye out for secret traps while you wait in line. And, definitely don’t pull on the bamboo (seriously, though, we totally DARE you to). (; Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! We’ve been singing the blues and struttin’ our stuff on the dance floor in Disney World! With the opening of the Scat Cat’s Club Cafe and the renovation of Scat Cat’s Club Lounge, we’ve been having a grand old time sipping, snacking, and listening to some great music. And, now we’re admiring a NEW part of the jazzy building! The Scat Cat’s Club Mural has been painted on the side of the side of the Port Orleans — French Quarter Resort spot, featuring a trombone player and swanky red, gold, and blue colors! Scat Cat’s Club Mural We’re pretty sure the jazz musicians inside the club are going to love this mural as much as we do!! Jazz Musicians I know we can’t wait to snap dozens of photos with our beignets in front of this wall! Beautiful, powerful, dangerous, cold… A Still from Frozen 2 ©Disney Frozen 2 is opening THIS WEEK!! And, there have been plenty of treats around Disney World to celebrate! We’ve tried the Frozen 2 Cookie, Frozen 2 Pumpkin Spice Donut Tart, and the Frozen 2 Hidden Truth Cupcake already (and loved them). But, now there’s another dessert popping up at a Disney Resort, just in time for the film’s premiere! Thanks to our reader @yellowbeadsandme, we were told that the Frozen 2 Wave Cupcake has made a splash at the Pop Century Resort! Frozen 2 Wave Cupcake The chocolate cake is filled with chocolate ganache and topped with peppermint frosting, blue sugar crystals, and a white chocolate disc featuring Elsa and a Nokk. Wave Cupcake The Frozen 2 Wave Cupcake combines some of our favorite holiday flavors! The chocolate cake is moist with every bite, and the ganache is deliciously rich. The peppermint frosting is a smooth mint that isn’t too overpowering but balances well with the other flavors in the dessert. The white chocolate disc and sugar crystals add a lovely final crunch to the soft cupcake, tying the whole thing together! Frozen 2 Wave Cupcake You can get your own Frozen 2 Wave Cupcake for $5.99. Then, you can go see the movie later this week after you eat it!! Chocolate Ganache Filling You can keep up with all the other Frozen 2 treats we spot in Disney World by subscribing to our newsletter! Have you tried the Frozen 2 Wave Cupcake yet? Change isn’t always a good thing when it comes to Disney food. Zebra Domes Although we sometimes have to say goodbye to great treats every once in a while, it’s even harder to see one of our favorite treats get an unnecessary makeover! Thanks to our insta follower and DFB reader @MickeyandMakeup, we got word today that the Zebra Domes at the The Mara in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Lodge seem to have undergone a renovation. Zebra Domes Change The domes consist of an Amarula Cream Liquour mousse covered in panna cotta-esque white chocolate, chocolate drizzle, and chocolate shavings. The treats usually sit on a thin cake base… The Old Zebra Domes …but here in our reader’s version, the soft cake bottom has been replaced with a hard piece of chocolate! According to our reader, the dessert isn’t as enjoyable as you have to bite through the hard chocolate, which takes away from the texture we’re used to in this fan favorite treat. Zebra Domes Change We don’t know whether this is a long-term change OR if it’s also the case at Boma restaurant (where Zebra domes are a favorite dessert every single night on the buffet). If this is JUST at the Mara, maybe it’s because the domes in the fridge case were getting soggy with the cake base? We will be checking the Zebra Domes out for ourselves this week, but if you’ve had them recently, let us know YOUR experience at Boma and Mara! A Herd of Zebra Domes at Boma If you want to hear all about the Zebra Dome update saga as we investigate, subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date with the dessert! Epcot’s 2019 Festival of the Holidays hasn’t even begun and we already have some pretty big news about the upcoming 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts! Festival of the Arts Passport As you may know, the 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts is a celebration of all things in the visual, art, and culinary world, with a slew of special events and experiences. We broke the news recently of a new brunch experience to take place during the 2020 festival at one of Disney World’s hardest to book spots, Le Cellier Steakhouse. We’re excited to report that advancing dining reservations for this experience are now available! Le Cellier Steakhouse The brand NEW brunch at Le Cellier Steakhouse will run Saturdays and Sundays during the 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts. The festival takes place from January 17 through February 24, and the first brunch is set to take place on January 18. We found two times to be available for this experience, 12:35 PM and 1:20 PM. Le Cellier Steakhouse While we don’t have additional menu details (gosh- we’re hoping for a new specialty poutine) and pricing information on this yet, this world showcase hot spot is typically a hard reservation to get and brunch may be the best time to plan your visit to the cozy candlelit cellar. We have a feeling this is going to be VERY popular, so don’t delay! Carbs for Brunch? You can learn more about the Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts — here. Another great way to get in on the action during this popular festival is the Disney on Broadway Concert series and dining packages. As always, we’ll continue to share festival updates and news as we get closer to the event! Are you planning a visit to the 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts? Let us know below! Since the grand opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland and Walt Disney World, we’ve been inundated with questions about this new, immersive land — particularly with respect to the “scrap metal” purveyor found at Savi’s Workshop — Handbuilt Lightsabers! Savi’s Workshop — Handbuilt Lightsabers Here, we’re breaking down some of the most frequently asked questions and providing answers that will help you know what to expect when you build your own lightsaber. How do I get to Savi’s Workshop? Disneyland Savi’s “scrap metal” business (the cover for the Workshop) is located essentially right in the middle of Black Spire Outpost. In Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge, the entrance nearest to Savi’s is the Frontierland entrance behind Big Thunder Railroad. When you enter from that direction and turn right, you will pass Droid Depot on your right… Droid Depot …then curve around the corner and pass Savi’s designated waiting area on your right as you make your way to check-in, pay, and select your lightsaber hilt theme. Savi’s Waiting Area You’ll know you’ve found the right place when you see this blue banner featuring a stylized lightsaber. Savi’s Workshop Banner Walt Disney World To find Savi’s in Disney World is basically the same! Heading in from the Toy Story Land entrance, the first location you’ll encounter here is Droid Depot as well. Droid Depot in Walt Disney World Go left around the front of Droid Depot then Savi’s will be on your right just past the Depot. Savi’s Workshop in Walt Disney World The same tell-tale blue banner graces the front of the building. (Remember — there are no real “signs” in Galaxy’s Edge, so keep your eyes peeled!) What do I do when I get there? You’ll want to check in with the cast members outside of Savi’s Workshop. At present, you must have a reservation in order to enter the shop, so you’ll check-in for that reservation at one of the registers in front of the shop. In Disneyland, reservations can be made 60 days in advance, while in Disney World reservations can be made 180 days prior. Savi’s Workshop (Shhh! Don’t tell!) Note that, in the event the land is at capacity, your reservation for Savi’s can also act as your ‘ticket’ into Galaxy’s Edge (if they’re at capacity and running the boarding group process at the time), and you may enter the land up to an hour before your Savi’s reservation time (with a party of up to six). In Disney World, this hasn’t happened since the morning of opening day though, so we’re not TOO worried at this time! Read more about opening day of Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge here! How can I go inside? When you make your reservation, a credit card is required to hold your spot. If for some reason you do not show up for your Savi’s reservation, you’ll be charged a $199.99 no-show charge (So…you know…don’t forget. Cause that’s a LOT of $$$$!!). When you DO arrive for your reservation, you’ll pay for your lightsaber at check-in and go through the process of selecting your lightsaber hilt theme. The theme you select will determine the parts you receive during your build. The four themes include Peace and Justice, Power and Control (historically Dark Side), Protection and Defense, and Elemental Nature. Savi’s lightsaber hilt themes Protection and Defense Elemental Nature If you want to see the parts in person (you may want to feel the weight of them, look at the details, etc.), samples are stored in in a display case out front. You’ll see symbols beside each drawer that represent the themes — and those symbols will come into play shortly! This storage container holds the key to your hilt! Once you’ve paid and selected your theme, you’ll receive a card with a group number and a pin representing your theme. The pin is yours to keep — and you’re encouraged to wear it so that the “gatherers” inside know which parts to provide to you. Elemental Nature Pin, Group Number Card At this point, you’ll wait in the designated area for your group number to be called. At that time you and your +1 (0r +2) can enter the Workshop. When I go in, what happens? When your group is called into Savi’s Workshop, you’ll be shown to a station. Theatrical lighting and dramatic cast member performances create a ceremony in which the power of the lightsaber is described and the Kyber Crystals (that’s what powers lightsabers, dontcha know!) are discussed and displayed. Showing a Kyber Crystal A gatherer comes around with a chamber of Kyber Crystals, and each builder selects the color crystal of her or his choice. Kyber Crystals come out! Pulling your Kyber Crystal from the selection When all builders have their Crystals, gatherers bring a tray of hilt parts to each station. You receive only the hilt parts associated with the theme you selected when you checked in. We’ll cover what all of these parts are in just a bit! Hilt Parts Once you’ve got your tray, it’s time to assemble your hilt. A gatherer will always be nearby should you have any questions, and directions for each step will be given and further explained if needed. Busy building! Kyber Crystal inserted into the hilt Finding the right combination of parts As builders complete their hilts, the hilts are placed on a small stand to await the activation ceremony. Hilt awaiting activation When all hilts are assembled, gathers insert hilts into the activation chamber where hilts will be “fused” with their blades. Lightsaber in Activator With more dramatic lighting and theatrics, the lightsabers activate in unison, creating a colorful, striking effect. Lightsabers activated! Once activated, the build is complete (TAA-DAA!). Cast members provide carry bags in the style of a sling, and builders emerge into Black Spire Outpost with their new bundles of lightsaber joy! What is in the Hilt Kit? The hilt kit provided to each builder contains a chassis into which the Kyber Crystal fits and around which all of the other pieces fit. Chassis with Kyber Crystal Not EVERYTHING presented is going on your lightsaber. You choose which of the pieces you’d like and leave the rest behind. There are four sleeves, from which the builder selects two. There are two emitters (for the end of the hilt where the blade comes out), from which the builder selects one. There are two pommel caps (to cover the end of the hilt), from which the builder selects one. And there are two sets of activation plates (fastened around the Kyber Crystal and used to turn the saber on and off) from which the builder also selects one. In the kit below, parts are, from left to right, chassis, sleeves, emitters, pummel caps, and activation plates. Hilt Parts Can the hilt parts be interchanged? If you visit Savi’s more than once and end up with 2 or more hilts, all of those pieces are interchangeable. So you can take a sleeve from any theme and combine it with activation plates from a different theme, for example. Because you have two sleeves with any theme, you could also switch them around if you wanted a slightly different design but only purchased one lightsaber. What are the hilts made of? How much do they weigh? The lightsaber hilt parts are made entirely of metal. (The chassis inside is plastic.) The metal hilt parts are treated to various colors and textures. The hilt itself weighs over two pounds. Hilt assembled What are the blades made of? The blades of the lightsaber consist of LED lights inside a “hybrid plastic” formed tube. Disney has described the blades as “duel-ready.” Can I build more than one at a time? Disney specifies “one lightsaber per builder per experience.” Whether Disney will let you pay for the parts but only build and activate one during the Savi’s experience is uncertain (plus, the experience of building it is half the fun!). How long does this take? Expect the whole ceremony, build, and activation to take 15-20 minutes (plus whatever time you spend waiting outside). What do I get for the money? For the cost of $199.99 (plus tax), builders receive their hilt, a 31″ blade, a carry bag, a theme pin, exclusive access to Savi’s for the build experience, and street cred. Can I change Kyber Crystals? The Kyber Crystal determines the color and sounds your lightsaber makes, and you can purchase additional Kyber Crystals in order to make your lightsaber do different things. Kyber Crystals can be purchased at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities for $12.99 plus tax. Kyber Crystals Will my blade work with legacy hilts from Dok Ondar’s? Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities does sell Legacy Hilts, meaning ones that resemble those seen in the actual movies of the Star Wars franchise. If you purchase a Legacy Hilt, your Savi’s lightsaber blade will fit the Legacy Hilt. Alternatively, Dok-Ondar also sells lightsaber blades separately for the Legacy Hilts. Legacy Hilts What does the Lightsaber do? You Savi’s Workshop lightsaber makes a sound and lights up at start-up. The start-up light moves from the hilt outward. The lightsaber also makes sounds unique to each color Kyber Crystal when the lightsaber is wielded. The hilt also makes sounds when the Kyber Crystal is inserted or removed. Wield your lightsaber for sounds. How do I change the batteries? There’s a cylindrical battery pack in the bottom of the chassis that’s hidden by the pommel cap. The pommel cap screws onto the bottom of the hilt, so when you need to replace the three AAA batteries that power the lightsaber, you must unscrew the cap and remove a screw that holds the battery pack in place. Slide the pack out, replace the batteries, reinsert the pack, reinsert the screw, and put the pommel cap back on the hilt. Boom. Done. Show off your lightsaber to all of Batuu! If paying $199 for a lightsaber seems a little steep, that’s because it’s a lot. Truly. But for Star Wars franchise fans, for those who love the drama of building one, and for those who are looking for a customizable souvenir, it may well be a must-do. We found the experience to be really impactful; the sight of fourteen sabers lighting up simultaneously around the Build Table was magical, and the reactions of Builders in the room made it clear that there’s a Force at work in Savi’s Workshop. Are you planning to build a lightsaber in the scrap metal shop? Tell us what you’re most looking forward to in the comments! Kimonos Sushi Bar is a table-service sushi restaurant at Walt Disney World’s Swan Hotel. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin This restaurant has been named the Best Sushi in Orlando by the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper and offers traditional Japanese cuisine in a contemporary atmosphere. Come for the great fish, but you’ll want to stay for the karaoke in the evenings! Kimonos is open nightly for dinner and is located on the main floor of the Swan Hotel. Since the Swan is not a Disney-owned resort, it does NOT accept Disney Dining Plan credits or MagicBand payments. Reservations are not offered at the restaurant, so feel free to simply show up! Kimonos Sushi Bar We recently tried a variety of dishes at Kimonos, so let’s dive in and tell you about our experience. Atmosphere Kimonos evokes a warm environment with rich colors and dark wood furniture. A variety of seating, such as cushioned chairs and couches, are scattered throughout the restaurant to add to the ambiance. Kimonos Sushi Bar Real kimonos are hung around the restaurant, introducing some Japanese authenticity to the restaurant. Kimonos Sushi Bar Large windows bring in plenty of light to balance out Kimonos’ deep color palette. Fun fact: cats tend to hang around outside the restaurant, so you might be able to spot one when you’re there! One thing to note is that Kimonos is more of a lounge or bar than a typical restaurant. While guests of all ages are welcome, it may not be the ideal place for families with young children. Kimonos Sushi Bar If you ask us, we could EASILY spend several hours relaxing and eating here with friends and family. Eats Kimonos’ menu includes a wide array of sushi, beverages, and Japanese specialties. The sushi is definitely the biggest draw of Kimonos, but they also offer soups, salads, and several other appetizers and small plates. Kimonos Sushi Menu Kimonos Menu Kimonos Drink Menu Starting things off with the Raspberry Sake Sangria, this drink was fresh and fruity without being too sweet! It’s a refreshing concoction for a warm summer day. Raspberry and Sake Sangria What trip to a sushi joint would be complete without a piping hot bowl of Miso Soup?! The soup was nice and hot, providing plenty of great flavor. This is always a great starter at Kimonos. Miso Soup Another great starter was the Seaweed Salad. The salad had a nice crunch from the cucumbers and a light touch of sweetness. Seaweed Salad The Wagyu Beef Satay was a universal hit with our group! Wagyu Beef Satay The dish includes three perfectly cooked skewers of Wagyu beef and scallions on a bed of miso mustard and clamshell mushrooms. The whole thing is then topped with fresh slaw. Wagyu Beef Satay This dish is absolutely delicious and we can HIGHLY recommend it. Give it a try the next time you’re at Kimonos! We continued our evening with the star of Kimonos’ menu – the SUSHI. The Vegetarian Summer Roll is a non-raw sushi option, stuffed with fresh veggies and served with ponzu sauce (a citrusy soy sauce). Vegetarian Summer Roll We asked for spicy mayo with our dish – go ahead and ask your server for it for an extra kick! Vegetarian Summer Roll The other sushi dish we tried was the Plated Sushi Platter, which includes a LOT of sushi. Plated Sushi Platter The platter includes samples of the following menu items in addition to two pieces of Fresh Salmon Nigiri: Dragon Roll, Asparagus Roll, Bagel Roll, and Spicy Rainbow Roll. Plated Sushi Platter The variety of options included is great for sharing and provides plenty of tasting opportunities for those new to sushi. The sushi was beautifully plated and tasty as well. We loved the Bagel Roll, which featured salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. The Dragon Roll was gorgeous, made with tuna and giant crispy shrimp! All the food we tried at Kimonos was beautiful, fresh and delicious! If you’re a long time fan of sushi or a newbie looking for a great spot to tip your toes into the world of the Japanese specialty, this spot won’t disappoint. Overall The Kimonos menu offers a wide array of items and different price points to accommodate many budgets. While some items like the Wagyu Beef Satay can be pricey (the price is dependent on market value), other items like the Vegetarian Summer Roll and the Tuna Roll are $5.50 and $7.00, respectively. This may not be the best option for guests on the Disney Dining Plan or for families with young children, but we think Kimonos is a must-do for sushi lovers at Walt Disney World. Have you tried Kimonos Sushi Bar yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! Related posts: Review: Dinner at Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Jiko Review: Is Epcot’s Nine Dragons Worth a Visit? Hear ye, hear ye! Calling all Lords and Ladies to join us at a royal meal in Epcot! World Showcase Lagoon Dining with the characters at Walt Disney World is a rite of passage! And if you’ve got a little princess (or prince!) with you, chances are they would LOVE to eat with their idols. And while Cinderella’s Royal Table is the most coveted character dining reservation in all the land (scratch that, the most coveted reservation in ALL OF DINING), it’s not the only place you can eat with royalty. The Norway Pavilion Located in Epcot‘s Norway Pavilion, Akershus is (somewhat) of a hidden gem when it comes to character dining. While reservations are certainly highly recommended, it’s much easier to snag one than Cinderella’s Royal Table. And while this castle is more modest, IT’S STILL A CASTLE. So grab your tiara, and let’s head to Norway! Atmosphere: Akershus Royal Banquet Hall Like we’ve said, Akershus is located in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion, and is themed to be an old castle. In fact, upon entry, you can read this giant storybook explaining the Castle’s heritage. Once Upon a Time… Before being escorted to your table, it’s time for your first royal greeting! Typically, Belle is there in her lovely evening gown to say hello! (Sometimes at Christmas time she’s in her holiday gown which is TO DIE FOR.) Keep in mind, the visiting princesses can change based on who can make it to the castle. But you’re going to see several royal ladies no matter what! Bonjour, Belle! After meeting and greeting with Belle, who is happy to sign autograph books and is the only princess here to have a Photopass Cast Member, you’ll be escorted to your table. There are several rooms in Akershus, all reminiscent of being in a castle of course! There are stone walls in some rooms… Akershus …regal banners in others… Akershus Royal Banners …and even a stone fireplace. Anyone else getting major Cinderella vibes? Cinderella’s Fireplace?! We just love the accents that totally channel old European furniture and painting styles. Akershus Furniture See what we mean by, it’s modest but totally regal? EATS Akershus is a little different when it comes to its menu, because it’s part-buffet, part-a la carte. Welcome on Akershus Menu But first things first, DRINKS! Akershus has a wide variety of beer, wine, and specialty cocktails, as well as a few non-alcoholic specials. (Note you can even get Norwegian water! How’s that for authentic?!) Akershus Cocktail Menu (Click to enlarge!) Akershus Wine and Beer Menu (Click to enlarge!) Per our server’s recommendation, I grabbed a specialty cocktail called “The Oslo.” It’s frozen cocktail with strawberries, banana liquor, vodka, and Norway’s signature liquor “Linie Aquavit,” named after the capitol city. The Oslo It was quite tasty, as far as frozen drinks go! It wasn’t super SUPER sweet (though still very much in the sweet family), and it was quite refreshing after a hot day walking around the World. The main flavor is certainly strawberry, as the banana was pretty muted. It reminded us of a daiquiri, but less sweet. If you’re a frozen drink fan, this one is worth a try. (That said, if you’re going to drink one frozen drink in World Showcase, our vote still goes to a margarita in Mexico or slushy in France.) The Oslo At this point, we also put in our orders for entrees. (This is where it gets confusing.) You see — the first course if buffet, but the entrees are a la carte. Our server had us select our choices before we scooted off to the buffet for course one. Entrees Menu (Click to enlarge) Kid’s Menu (Click to Enlarge) After taking our order, our server explained the buffet. It’s a cold bar featuring authentic Norwegian meats and cheeses, as well as salads and pastas. You’re welcome to visit as many times as you’d like. Let’s take a look at the options! Akershus Cold Bar First up, the salad bar. There are all the necessary fixins’ to make a yummy salad. While this isn’t super exciting, it’s sometimes nice to enjoy some greens amongst all the carby, sugary goodness that is eating in Walt Disney World. Salad Bar Salad Bar Salad Bar Next to the salad bar options, we spotted several cold pre-made salads including a Sun-dried tomato pasta salad and broccoli slaw. (Don’t worry we are gonna take a closer look at everything shortly. Keep reading!) Cold Pastas There’s also a meat and cheese selection, that includes salami and Norwegian brown cheese among others. Meat and Cheese Selection Meat and Cheese Selection What makes this bar extra fun, is the FISH! That’s right we said fish. You can grab peppered mackerel or salmon, with the fixings. We are in Norway, after all. Salmon and Capers We grabbed a little of everything (we mean it — EVERYTHING), and headed back to our table! Meat and Cheese Plate First up, the meat and cheese plate. (This is DFB after all…and WE LOVE CHEESE.) We sampled a few slices of each cheese (Munster, Swiss, and Geitost — the brown one), as well as some meat (turkey and salami), and beet and bean salads. Cheeses Like we said, the brown cheese looks a little…off…but we promise it’s fabulous! It’s sweet and creamy, and goes great with some meat on a roll. Bean Salad and Beet Salad The first salads we tried were yummy as well — both the Bean Salad and Beet Salad were nice and fresh. The bean salad was our favorite of the two, with fresh red onions and herbs mixed in. Salad We also made ourselves a little salad from the fresh veggies available, and found the house vinaigrette to have a fabulous zip! Light and tangy, it was a very refreshing topper to our greens. Sun-dried Tomato Pasta The sun-dried tomato pasta was perfectly cooked, and was a great option for someone who wants something different but not “brown cheese or cold fish” different. While it wasn’t the most flavorful pasta I’ve ever had, I really liked the addition of fresh tomatoes and olives into the pasta. Potato Salad The potato salad was a vinegar-based mixture, which we quite enjoyed! It’s much lighter than your traditional mayo-based, and we loved that the skins were left on those lil’ baby reds. If you’re not a vinegary-person though, you may want to skip this one. Broccoli Slaw and Chicken Salad Two of the table faves were the Broccoli Slaw and Chicken Salad (or kyllingsalat in Norwegian). The broccoli was fresh and crunchy, and we loved the creamy, peppery mixture. The chicken salad was also chock full of flavor (thank you red onions!), and was a great choice for someone less adventurous. Shrimp Salad Possibly our fave of all the cold salads was the shrimp salad! It’s a mixture of big pasta shells, cold baby shrimp, peppers, onions, and peas, all tossed in a creamy sauce. Color us surprised, we’re normally not a big fan of cold seafood, but this one was very tasty! However the next cold seafood item, did not make a return visit to our plate… Peppered Mackerel Hello, Peppered Mackerel. While the pepper helped with the extreme fishiness, we couldn’t get over the fact that this is literally just cold fish covered in pepper. THAT SAID, it seemed fresh and if you love seafood (particularly mackerel) you might just love it! Salmon with Capers and Onions Still in the cold fish category, is the salmon. Now this one was certifiably fresh and had all the toppings you’d need — red onion, capers, hard-boiled eggs. This is the sort of item that really elevates Akershus from other character meals on property. Typically you don’t associate fresh salmon with this category of dining, but we are in Norway after all! Are you full yet? We hope not, because we haven’t even had entrees! Allllll the food. For my entree, I went with a traditional choice: the Kjøttkake. Also known as meatballs. Kjøttkake The meatballs are served with Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables (green beans and carrots in our case), and Lingonberry Sauce. Kjøttkake These were a great mix of sweet and savory, with the Lingonberry Sauce providing a tart balance to the savory meat. The green beans were cooked very well, where they had a nice crunch and snap! And no complaints about the creamy mashed potatoes here either! Kjøttkake Cross Section The meatballs themselves were nice and moist, and quite filling — especially after all that yumminess at the buffet! After we were done with our entrees, our server brought us dessert. Dessert Trio Because two styles of dining aren’t enough, dessert is served in yet another way: family style! Each table receives plates full of three traditional Norwegian desserts. First up, Traditional Rice Cream – topped with Strawberry Sauce: Rice Cream This one reminded us of a thick tapioca pudding, consistency wise. But it was really quite flavorful, thanks to the strawberry sauce! A Cast Member let us know this is what his family eats at special occasions. While some people may not love it because of the consistency, it was a fun, unique dessert to us. Next up, Apple Cake with cardamom whipped cream. Apple Cake Cross Section This one was fabulous! The sweet apple cake was chock full of cinnamon and nutmeg, and we loved the caramel drizzle on top. It was the hands-down favorite of the three. Rounding out the trio, is a Sweet and Savory Chocolate Mousse. Chocolate Mousse This sweet mousse is salted to help balance out the rich chocolate. ALERT TO ALL CHOCOLATE LOVERS: this thing is creamy and sooo chocolatey. You’ll love it! Dessert Trio The dessert trio is a fun way to end the meal — and there’s something for everyone! Characters: In addition to meeting Belle at the beginning of the meal, four other royal ladies graced us with their presence. We discussed baking gooseberry pies with Snow White… Snow White …swapped beauty sleep and self-care tips with Princess Aurora… Princess Aurora …discussed the best places to shoe shop with Cinderella… Cinderella …and chatted about the pros of having legs with Ariel! Ariel The princesses were all so sweet and spent plenty of time chatting with us. Make sure your littles have their autograph books out and get your cameras ready when you see the ladies coming your way! Some of our favorite pictures are the ones BEFORE the posed one — when our little princesses are just in awe of their idols! Overall: In the end, Akershus is still a winner in our book. Is it the best food you’ll ever eat in Walt Disney World (or even World Showcase)? No. But it is quite good for a character dining meal. Between the cold bar (which again, you can visit over and over should you choose), quality entrees, and dessert trio, we don’t have any major critiques about the food. The biggest negative of Akershus is the cost — it’s pretty pricey for a sit-down meal, especially if you’re gauging it on food alone. (It’s an incredible use of ONE dining plan credit though.) That said, the main reason to visit Akershus is for the princesses of course! Considering we got to sit down in the air conditioning for an hour or so, eat as much cheese as we wanted, AND meet five of Disney’s starring ladies, I’d say a trip to this Norwegian Castle is still worth it. Well, maybe just half a drink more… Trader Sam’s We’re LOVING all the tasty Christmas-themed drinks being shaken and stirred in Disneyland! We’ve already tried the Holiday Egg Nog, Horchata Aqua Fresca, and the Cranberry Julep for the holiday season, and now we’re stopping by a Disney hotel for another round of sweet drinks! Along with their festive decor, Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Hotel is stepping away from the hot cocoa and mixing up three boozy Christmas beverages — Jungle All the Way, Peppermint Barks, and Gin-ger Snaps! Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar Jungle All the Way takes guests on a trip to the tropics with its Fernet Branca, Kahlua, lime juice, pineapple juice, and coconut cream combination. Trader Sam’s Christmas Menu Although this drink is supposed to be the fruitiest of the three, the Fernet Branca balances out the sweet pineapple and coconut flavors with its spiciness! It’s kinda similar in taste to a hot toddy, but with a lot stronger fruit flavors! It’s delicious AND has super pretty colors! Jungle All the Way Ever wondered what an alcoholic candy cane tastes like? Peppermint Barks has got you covered with its mix of El Dorado 8-Year Rum, Rumple Minze Peppermint Schnapps, ginger syrup, lemon juice, Coco Real cream of coconut, and pomegranate juice (!!!), all topped with mint leaves and a candy cane garnish. Peppermint Barks The Peppermint Barks definitely hits on that cool, refreshing taste that peppermint gives! The Peppermint Schnapps is definitely more prominent than the other flavors, but it’s not too strong. However, that pure cream of coconut makes the drink somewhat heavier, so you might want to take it slow while you’re sipping on this one! Peppermint Barks Ginger snap cookies are low-key one of the best treats at Christmastime. And, the Gin-ger Snaps reminds us of those spicy treats with Hendrick’s Gin, Canton Ginger Liqueur, lemon juice, ginger syrup, and cinnamon syrup all shaken up together and topped with cinnamon and a candied ginger garnish. Gin-ger Snaps When you think of the spice that comes with a ginger snap, try to think of that times ten in this drink! The spicy flavors of the ginger and the sweetness of the cinnamon mix together to make one AH-MAZING drink. Plus, that candied ginger adds a final kick of spice after you’ve finished sipping (and we love it)! Gin-ger Snaps If we had to rank them, we’d say our ranking starts with the Gin-ger Snaps, Jungle All the Way, and finally the Peppermint Barks. But, don’t get us wrong!! We’d definitely think they’re all worth getting again. Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! After a long morning of riding your favorite attractions, sometimes you just gotta sit back, relax, and eat a great lunch in Disneyland! GCH Craftsman Grill And, one of our FAVE meals is a good ole’ hot dog or corn dog! Although you can get one at Award Wieners, Corn Dog Castle, and other spots around the parks, we’re heading to a resort to grab a new twist on a classic snack! The Corn Dog Bulgogi Bites are being tossed and fried at the Grand Californian Hotel‘s Craftsman Grill! Corn Dog Bulgogi Bites The latest “hot dog of the month” consists of mini corn dogs piled high with sriracha aioli (!!!), kimchi scallions, fresno chiles, togarashi and furikake spice, and bulgogi sauce. A Peek Inside the Corn Dog Bulgogi Bites! The dish this month is an Asian-inspired version of corn dogs, and we thought it was AH-MAZING! The breading on the corn dog nuggets is wonderfully crunchy and stays that way, even with all the toppings! The sweetness of the bulgogi sauce pairs perfectly with the kick of spiciness from the sriracha aioli, fresno chiles, and spices (yum!!). This is definitely a grown-up version of corn dogs, so kids might just want to stick to the original! (; Hey, more for Mom and Dad then!! Sweet Bulgogi Sauce and Spicy Toppings Make sure to ask your server about the “hot dog of the month” if you want to order these bbs! They’re super filling and shareable, so you might want to bring a friend or family member to snack with (or put them in a to-go box and save them for later!).
