  2. One of the most popular and beloved holiday traditions has returned to Disneyland starting TODAY and we’re filling you in on everything you need to know! Disneyland Resort The Disneyland Candy Canes, which are notoriously popular amongst local Passholders, have returned for 2019. If you find yourself in Disneyland this holiday season and want to grab one for yourself, there are a few things you should know! These are some SERIOUS candy canes. Each one is hand-pulled and measures eighteen inches long. And they sell out QUICKLY. Wristbands are distributed at park opening, one wristband per guest, and the wristband entitles you to purchase one candy cane per wristband holder. So, the early bird catches the candy cane! Disneyland Candy Canes The following dates are when the candy canes will be available for purchased in each park: Candy Palace (Disneyland): Nov. 29, Dec. 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, and 24 Trolley Treats (California Adventure): Nov. 30, Dec. 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, and 25 Disneyland Home Made Candy Canes: Image (c) Disney Each candy cane costs $13.99 and there are no discounts available, including AP discounts. 4. The holidays have ARRIVED in Epcot! Conducting the Candlelight Processional One of our favorite holiday traditions at the park is The Candlelight Processional, which combines a reading of a traditional scripture (performed by a celebrity narrator), accompanied by a massive choir and live orchestra for a truly special experience. 6. The Aguirre family from McAllen, Texas, runs a nonprofit organization in their community that delivers 40 meals a day to people in need. In recognition of their amazing generosity, the Aguirres were named “Volunteer Family of the Year” by The Walt Disney Company and Points of Light as part of a nationwide search conducted on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The Aguirres were joined by the contest’s four runner-up families on a VIP trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to celebrate their altruism. During their stay, the families were treated to exclusive events and special opportunities. They served as grand marshals of “Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade” at Magic Kingdom Park, and were among the first guests to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge prior to its grand opening Dec. 5, 2019, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The five families were also guests of honor at a Family Volunteer Day event held Nov. 23 at Disney Springs where Disney guests and cast members participated in events with local nonprofits that encouraged families to volunteer in their communities. During the Family Volunteer Day celebration at Disney Springs, the Aguirres were also presented with the Daily Point of Light Award for their inspiring commitment to helping others. To learn more about how you and your family can get involved in volunteering in your community as a family, visit Points of Light to find a project you can join or tips on how you can create one yourself. Eligible nonprofits and schools in the U.S. can join the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program and earn Disney Parks tickets by hosting family volunteer events. View the full article

  10. Epcot’s International Festival of the Holidays officially kicks off TODAY! Festival of the Holidays And while we’re jazzed about all of the delicious food and drinks...especially after seeing this year’s menus, we’re also really excited to check out some of our favorite Festival of the Holidays traditions. When people think Festival of the Holidays, they likely think delicious food booths, the Candlelight Processional, and Christmas decor. Epcot International Festival of the Holidays As the festival kicks off TODAY, we thought we’d share some of our favorite Festival of the Holiday traditions. So, let’s hop into our sleighs to check out a few of these timeless traditions together! The Storytellers Did you know that the Festival of the Holidays has the potential to offer guests a glimpse into how different cultures celebrate holidays that take place throughout Winter? Well, they do, with the Festival of the Holidays Storytellers. These performers share stories that will give you the opportunity to see how other countries celebrate the holidays! Holiday Storytellers in Norway Though these are a timeless tradition that has happened for years and years, they’re sometimes forgotten or overlooked. We really don’t know why though… We love snapping a quick photo after listening to an incredible story from the Storytellers in each country. You can find the Storytellers throughout the day during the festival in every World Showcase Pavilion. If you’re looking for showtime information, be sure to check your Festival of the Holidays times guide! Pere Noel We love taking the time to watch these each year because it opens up the world a bit. You can hear incredible stories, see stunning costumes, and feel as if the world is a little smaller thanks to the beautiful stories and traditions that take place around the world. A Daruma Seller The storytellers really tie the idea of the holidays and Epcot together with a nice pretty bow! Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus in America And speaking of Storytellers…Santa and Mrs. Claus actually meet for photos at the American Adventure Pavilion. Santa and Mrs. Claus in Epcot’s American Adventure Pavilion They’re typically outside, and they too will tell a short story and will be available to snap a photo afterward. If Santa and Mrs. Claus are too busy with their North Pole duties you may see that their pal Santa Goofy will take their place! Visit with Santa during Epcot’s Holidays Around the World We love this timeless tradition because it really gets us in the mood for Christmas. Buuut we love it even more because this is a great way to meet Mrs. Claus and Santa without a lengthy line. While they do make their ways around the parks, they’re pretty popular people. So, this will give you the ability to snag a quick photo with less of a hassle and much less waiting! Belle Meeting in her Enchanted Christmas Outfit Another thing we LOVE to do every year is to meet Belle in her stunnnnnnning Enchanted Christmas outfit! You know, the rich velvet red and gold dress that she wore in the Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Christmas film!! Belle in her Christmas gown in Epcot Well, Belle actually greets guests in this outfit throughout the festival! You will typically find her meeting at the gazebo in the France Pavilion where Aurora typically meets! While you can also see her in her lovely Christmas attire if you’re attending a Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, this should be a great place to meet her with a shorter wait time! So, Belle lovers, be sure to take advantage! Her times should be posted on the My Disney Experience app and they may possibly be on a placard near the gazebo. Gingerbread Displays in America Many of you may know about the stunning Gingerbread displays at Disney’s Grand Floridian, Contemporary, and Yacht and Beach, but did you know that there are typically incredible Gingerbread displays in Epcot as well. Gingerbread Display of the U.S Capitol Building You can find these throughout the holiday season at The American Adventure. In the past, we’ve seen gingerbread creations of the United States Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial. Gingerbread Display of the Washington Monument Annnnnnd the creators typically use over 50 POUNDS of gingerbread! We love taking a step away from the crowds to head into The American Adventures to see what Disney has come up with this year. The Voices of Liberty Carolers Speaking of the American Adventure Pavilion, did you know that The Voices of Liberty perform as Dickens Carolers during Festival of the Holidays? They dress in festive ware and sing classic holiday tunes throughout the day! You’ll find the group inside the American Adventure building (so you can stay warm while you listen to their lovely tunes.) Voices of Liberty This area is usually decorated with stunning garland and you can stop by and listen before or after taking a look at the incredible Gingerbread House. Dickens Carolers Sing for Guests The Epcot International Festival of the Holidays is filled with unique traditions that can make the holidays really special. While we love all of these overlooked traditions, we also cannot wait to dine at some of our favorite food kitchens. Bûche de Noël au Chocolat “Christmas Log” Check out the 2019 International Festival of the Holidays menus here!! And we cannot wait to see Neil Patrick Harris and the rest of the 2019 performers grace us with their presence at The Candlelight Processional. Epcot Candlelight Processional Take a look at who is performing in the 2019 Candlelight Processional here! November 29th is almost here, folks! 11. There are just a few hours left in the Thanksgiving holiday, which means the Christmas season will be in full swing tomorrow! Tonight’s “After Dark” image was snapped at Magic Kingdom Park, during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party – and ohh what a merry sight! This time of year, the park’s Main Street, U.S.A. is wrapped in holiday decor and Cinderella Castle is awash in millions of lights. Thanks to Mark Willard for the picture. View the full article
  12. Step right up! Disney’s BoardWalk We just had a snack at Disney’s BoardWalk that basically shattered our illusions about this easily-passed-by spot…and we GOTTA tell you about it! You’ve probably strolled past the Boardwalk To Go stand as you were making a beeline for the Boardwalk Bakery. BoardWalk To Go This walk-up window is serving up traditional Boardwalk Bites, like Burgers, French Fries, and Corn Dogs. And while it’s always been a fun stop for quick eats, it hasn’t necessarily been noteworthy. Boardwalk To Go Menu But that’s all changed. Today…we’re spilling the tea on the SUPER YUMMY Boardwalk Loaded Chips. Boardwalk Loaded Chips Priced at $9.75, these feature homemade chips loaded up with delicious pulled pork, addictive beer cheese, chopped onion, tomato, and with the option to add jalapeño. For an additional $4.00, you can upgrade to Fries as the base if that’s your sorta thing…but honestly it’s not necessary. Boardwalk Loaded Chips You could easily share this as a snack, but why would you when it’s THIS delicious? These reminded us a LOT of the pulled pork nachos at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! PRO TIP: Around the corner of the booth, they’ve got some sauces set out. Add Buffalo Sauce to kick these babies up an extra notch. You won’t regret it! Buffalo Sauce Yep — these were much more than we expected! And we love it when that happens! Boardwalk Loaded Chips Run, don’t walk to grab these next time you’re at Disney’s BoardWalk! 17. Happy Thanksgiving! Today, many of our readers are spending quality time with their own family and friends, a sentiment that artist Ashley Taylor used as inspiration for today’s Disney Doodle. In it, brothers Kenai and Koda from the 2003 film “Brother Bear,” enjoy some special family time together at Magic Kingdom Park. “Kenai and Koda are used to seeing the northern lights in their travels,” Ashley said. “It’s easy to imagine them wanting to watch Cinderella’s Castle light up the sky for the holidays!” View the full article
  18. We visit Walt Disney World A LOT… and when we say a lot we REALLY mean it! We have writers in the parks nearly EVERY day riding rides, eating food, watching shows, and perusing merchandise so we can keep you up to date on ALL of the Disney park happenings! Balloons on Main Street We love making sure that we are in-the-know when it comes to all things Disney, and we’ve come to know a few super-simple hacks that are sure to upgrade your Walt Disney World vacay! Because who doesn’t want to save a little money, or enhance your dreamy trip to Disney, amiright? So let’s get down to it! Here are our top 9 tips to hack your way to the ultimate Disney World vacation! 1. Dine at Character Locations for Breakfast to Save Money and Time Call us crazy, but we STILL get excited every time we see a Disney character at the parks! Minnie Mouse at Chef Mickey’s And we know you’re probably going to want to be meeting some characters on your Disney World trip, too! But waiting in long lines? Probably not so much! What if we told you that there’s a way that you can meet a bunch of characters in an air-conditioned room all while feasting on a delicious meal? Um yeah — that sounds like a WAAAY better idea to us! Piglet!! Whatta cutie! Character meals are the unsung heroes of Disney World, offering guests the opportunity to dine in a table-service restaurant while various characters come right to your table to take photos and sign autographs! The wonderful thing about Tigger… A downside to character meals is they can be a bit pricey, BUT, there’s a fix for that! Character meals are typically cheaper for breakfast than they are for lunch or dinner, so rouse the troops early for an A.M. feast at restaurants like Chef Mickey’s, Tusker House, Crystal Palace, and Cinderella’s Royal Table! At Chef Mickey’s you can meet everyone’s favorite sweethearts Mickey and Minnie, along with their best buds Donald, Goofy, and Pluto! At Crystal Palace, you can meet Piglet, Tigger, Pooh, and Eeyore straight outta the Hundred Acre Woods! Chef Mickey’s Buffet Many character breakfasts are about $12 to $15 cheaper than if you were to eat there during lunch or dinner, which totally adds up if you have a large group! And if you’re already hip to the whole character breakfast scene, make sure you check out Artist Point for dinner! Located at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge this spot transforms into a storybook themed dining experience in the evenings where you can meet Snow White, Dopey, Grumpy, and The Evil Queen! Storybook Dining at Artist Point With so many unique dining experiences to meet characters, there is really no reason to wait in those long lines to meet many of the characters!! Read our FULL review of the Storybook Dining Character meal here! 2. Use a Travel Agent! While we love ourselves some Disney, even we’ve gotta admit they’ve made it REALLY hard to get the most out of your visit without help from the pros! From choosing FastPasses to making dining reservations, booking special events, tours, and more… it can be overwhelming for most families. That’s where travel agents come in! (Click here to find out more about why DFB recommends using travel agents.) It’s a jungle out there! Don’t be afraid to hire a professional! Don’t know where to start? One travel agency we here at DFB highly recommend is our friends at Small World Vacations! They’re EXPERTS, and they know how to NOT waste your money OR time! Plus they know the parks and the hotels like the backs of their hands! Fastpass+ ScreenShot And did you know Travel agents are FREE?! Yep, FREEEEEEEE, friends! They’ll seriously do all the heavy lifting FOR YOU! Can you imagine planning your Disney trip stress-free when it comes to park tickets, hotels, FastPasses, the Magical Express, restaurant choices, secret tips, and more? Get on the horn now with our buds at Small World Vacations if you’re feelin’ the vacation-planning burn! They’re seriously one of the best in the biz! 3. Get More Hours in the Parks for Less by Arriving Early for Hard Ticket Events Did you know that your hard ticketed special event tickets like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will often let you into the parks a few hours earlier than the posted start time? This isn’t necessarily published anywhere, but it’s a great hack, if you’re in-the-know! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party sign Special ticketed events can be EXPENSIVE, so take advantage of ALL the time you can with that ticket, folks! Since your event tickets will get you into the park early, you may be able to get away with NOT buying a regular park ticket that day if you’ll be able to get all your park goals accomplished during the hard ticket event. For instance, if Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party begins at 7 PM, often guests can enter with their party ticket starting at 4 PM. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party For example, since wait times tend to be significantly lower during Disney’s After Hours events, many guests find that doing After Hours in Magic Kingdom allows them to ride everything on their to-do list in just a few short hours! Maleficent at Night So spend your morning by the pool or at Disney Springs to save a little money (okay, maybe not Disney Springs!) instead of buying a park ticket and then head to the parks when your ticket will let you in! Check out our Villains After Hours event review here! See if we think these events are worth the money by viewing our video below! 4. Ride Attractions During Parades, Fireworks, and Nighttime Shows Now here’s one of the best ways to save time in line without needing a FastPass! — hop in line for popular attractions and rides during nighttime shows and parades! Of course, we don’t want you to miss out on either if it’s your first trip to Disney World, but if you and your merry band of travelers have already seen the entertainment offerings (and don’t care to enjoy them again!), you can rapid-fire through a bunch of Disney rides in record time while most of the folks in the park are jocking to secure their ideal viewing spots! Magic Kingdom This is a great option if you can’t get a FastPass for your must-do attraction. Keep an eye on the ride wait times via your My Disney Experience app during nighttime events and parades — and you may be surprised at the difference! Happily Ever After Start checking an hour or so before a nighttime event, when guests often being to find spots to view from, to see when wait times start to fall. Who knows, maybe you’ll time it right and get to drop on Splash Mountain while the Happily Ever After fireworks are going off! 2 birds with one stone, bb! 5. Keep Your Phone Charged with These Tips We always suggest bringing a portable charger to ensure that your battery level stays high and your stress level stays low. Disney does sell portable chargers called FuelRods in the parks for $30, but you can likely find much cheaper and faster-charging options at home. (Especially after all the hot mess that was the addition of the recent FuelRod replacement fee then reversal in Disney World!) FuelRod Station Read more about the FuelRod replacement fee reversal here! Another great way to make sure your phone stays charged is to use the charging locations throughout the parks. There are a few locations set up where you can bring a cord and plug in your personal device while relaxing in the air conditioning. Other locations are set up outside but have seating in the shade. Our favorites in Magic Kingdom? There are chargers hidden around the Tangled-themed restrooms in Fantasyland, in Storybook Circus, and at the exit to Space Mountain. Storybook Circus Many newer Disney buses now also feature charging ports underneath the seats! So next time you’re headed from A to B, you can plug in and charge up while you wait! Sensational Six Bus Charging Ports Do you often find that your battery life has dropped substantially after using your My Disney Experience app? Well, to help avoid this, we suggest taking a screenshot of your FastPass+ selections and dining reservations for the day and setting it as your home screen or lock screen! 6. Plan Ahead for Dining There’s nothing worse than sitting down at a restaurant you booked six months ago and realizing that your family won’t eat anything on the menu. MAJOR bummer alert! In order to maximize your savings as well as your family’s enjoyment, you need to do your research! How? Online menus and reviews, people! Make use of the Disney restaurant menus (and OUR REVIEWS!) posted online before making your dining reservations. That way you can see if the restaurant you’re thinking about booking is a good fit for you and your fam before you commit to it! Be Our Guest Menu And hi, we’re DFB! Have we met? If not, well allow us to introduce you to our exhaustive, comprehensive list of reviews for any and every Disney World restaurant you could possibly be considering! We have reviewed every dining location AND menu option on property, so be sure to spend some time exploring our site! Skipper Canteen Menu And a friendly reminder — reservations can be made and canceled up to 24 hours beforehand without a fee, so don’t be afraid to make a reservation and cancel if need be! (Just don’t be that guy who makes 50 reservations for the same meal ’cause he doesn’t know where he wants to eat! Think of other folks. ) Click here to see all the Disney World restaurants along with our expert restaurant reviews and articles! 7. Purchase Gift Cards Outside of the Parks A great way to save money is to purchase Disney gift cards at a discount before you travel at locations like Target and Sam’s Club! For example, if you have a Target REDcard, your 5% discount applies to Disney gift cards! Did you know that? Well, you do now! Slinky Dog Gift Card This little hack can save you loads of money, especially on gift cards with larger amounts. So if you purchase a $100 gift card, you’ll only be spending $95. That means the extra $5 was basically free money, and free money is goooooood!!! 8. Avoid the Crowds with Extra Magic Hour Hacks Here’s a great tip for ya: the Disney theme park offering Extra Magic Hours will likely be that day’s most crowded park. (If you’re not sure what Extra Magic Hours are, they’re a perk that grants Disney World resort guests bonus time in a rotating park each day, but often it means whichever park has the Extra Magic Hours will be heavier with crowds that day!) Spaceship Earth Here’s YOUR plan as an insider: Go to morning Extra Magic Hours if you’re a resort guest, but then get outta Dodge and head to the park that had Extra Magic Hours the previous day (nobody’s there — they’re all at today’s Extra Magic Hours park!). Same applies to evening Extra Magic Hours — avoid that park most of the day and head over in the evening to get the most bang for your buck. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge This way, you get the benefit of your extra hours without having to deal with crowds for the rest of the day. Remember, Magic Hours are exclusively for resort guests and change week-to-week and season-to-season! 9. Grab Some of Our DFB Guides! 20. In 2015, Minnie Mouse started a brand new holiday celebration: Minnie’s Hollywood & Vine Holiday Dine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Learn About: Hollywood and Vine Restaurant Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney World Restaurants This buffet celebrates the season with flavors that bring the comfort and warmth of the holiday to your plate. And there are characters! In their holiday attire! With sparkly shoes! Sorry, that was a lot of exclamation points. But the punctuation expresses our love for the overall experience at Minnie’s Holiday Dine. Though the decor is relatively subtle (just a sparkly Christmas tree and some wraps on the pillars), the opportunity to meet Santa Goofy and to mingle with Minnie, Mickey, Daisy, and Donald is fantastic. As character meals go, this is one of the more underrated options at Walt Disney World. Perhaps because it’s tucked into a Park rather than in a generally more accessible Resort setting, Hollywood & Vine is oft forgotten by guests planning their Disney World dining. Breakfast at Hollywood & Vine features Disney Junior pals, and lunch and dinner are now Minnie’s Seasonal dining; in addition to the Holiday Dine, Minnie also celebrates spring, summer, and Halloween! (See — even Minnie knows it’s Halloween and straight into Christmas. Sorry, Thanksgiving!) Welcome to Hollywood & Vine! Happy Christmas and Merry Holidays — let’s go eat! Atmosphere Hollywood & Vine Restaurant has a very cool vibe at the front entrance. If you’re dining after dark, head for the art-deco-shaped neon! For the holiday season, silver boughs and Christmas ornaments flank the front entry. Holiday Dine Entrance If you’ve got a little wait ahead of you, there’s some bench seating for you while you wait. Waiting Area for Hollywood & Vine You might spot these posters on your way in. They share the daily schedule for the Play ‘n’ Dine Breakfast and Minnie’s Seasonal Dine (starting at 11:30AM everyday). Holiday Dine This sign welcoming guests to Minnie’s Holiday Dine even has the prices — $54 for adults, $32 for guests 3-9. (Anyone else routinely annoyed that Disney doesn’t publicize their buffet prices online?) Holiday Dine Inside the restaurant, the Holiday part of Holiday Dine is pretty obviously temporary. Pillars are wrapped with vinyl Holiday Dine banners. Holiday Dine Holiday Dine They’re festive but nothing special… Holiday Dine …unless This Guy happens to pop out from behind a pillar just as you’re taking a pic! Hey, Mickey, you’re so fine (you know, for an oversized mouse). Peekaboo! A retro-fabulous silver tree covered in pink balls and bows brings more holiday cheer to the space, but overall it’s not in-your-face that it’s a holiday party. We’d like to see more, but this likely works for a lot of folks. Holiday Dine And we confess to enjoying the silver tree immensely. It’s so funky, it’s awesome. Holiday Dine Of course, when it comes down to the Holiday Dine, you’re not really in it for the decor, are you? You’re in it for the character interactions! Characters Since this is Minnie’s meal, we’re starting with the star of this show! Minnie Mouse She’s dressed to the nines in her red dress and bow with loads of sequins and details. Minnie Mouse Minnie’s dress details The shoes are fine, too, covered in shimmer dust. She’s literally sparkling from bow to toe! Minnie’s sparkly shoes Of course, Minnie’s pal Daisy is bringing her unique style to the game, too. She’s in velvety green with starbust details. Daisy Duck It’s clear this duck knows how to pose. Is she smizing, or is that our imagination? Daisy Duck Daisy’s also shimmery at the Holiday dine, with a glittering bracelet and details on her bow. Daisy Duck But if you loved Minnie’s shoes, hold the phone because Daisy has stepped it up with even more green velvet! Daisy Duck The gents are in their finest, too. Mickey Mouse wears a deep red sport coat and a funky striped shirt. Mickey Mouse He’s ready to greet guests with his signature grin. And peep that cute little wreath pin and the white piping on the jacket. Such a dapper fellow… er, rodent. Mickey Mouse Donald is here, too! He’s in a pair of vests (we didn’t ask why, just go with it) and an Oxford shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Those sleeves mean business, and the business is posing for the camera. Donald Duck Ahoy, sailor. The vests truly make no sense, but we love them anyway. Donald Duck He looks upset with us, but we swear: we’re very well-behaved in a restaurant setting. Okay, maybe we take a lot of food photos, but that’s not a crime — it’s our job! Donald Duck There’s one last friend we’ve got to say hello to, and his meeting requires documentation. When you check-in for your meal at Minnie’s Holiday Dine, you’ll receive a ticket to meet Santa Goofy! Ticket to meet Goofy Santa Santa Goofy has a distinct set-up: a background with an art deco pattern and the Holiday Dine log emblazoned on it. Santa Goofy Santa Goofy is still goofy, so expect to have a fun interaction with this larger-than-life pooch… in his Santa suit. Santa Goofy He’s contemplating our place on the Nice List. (Don’t tell him we got in trouble with Donald.) Santa Goofy During our visit, Daisy came over for a quick chat before dashing off to greet more of her adoring fans. Daisy and Goofy The characters at Minnie’s Holiday Dine are really fun. During our visit, the dining room wasn’t particularly busy, so we had plenty of time to interact with the characters. During a busier service, things might be a little more rushed, but ultimately this is a dining experience where you can expect a good interaction. Eats And now it’s time for the final piece of the character meal puzzle: the meal. The buffet at Hollywood & Vine is fairly extensive, with options for young and old and a handful of plant-based dishes identified by the now-ever-present leaf logo. (See what we mean here.) Hollywood & Vine Buffet This buffet set-up, like many other buffet meals on property, offers two identical sides — so whether you go left or right as you approach the buffet, you’ll find the same dishes on both sides. Hollywood & Vine Buffet On the table you’ll find information about cocktails, wine, and beer. These are included if you’re using the Disney Dining Plan to pay for your meal, but if you’re paying out of pocket, these are an extra cost. Cocktails Wine & Beer We started with Hot Chocolate because it was chilly outside (by Florida standards, don’t judge us). This was delicious. It was included with the meal, as are soft drinks, coffee, apple and orange juice, regular and chocolate milk, and tea. Hot Chocolate The buffet includes a lot of expected items, but many have a twist. The Salad Station is packed with options to top off your romaine or mixed greens. Salad Station There are Pretzel Rolls and Dinner Rolls with tiny tubs of butter. Rolls and Butter The buffet had lots of hot options, including Corn on the Cob, Meatballs (more below!), Brown Gravy, and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Hot Station The Brown Gravy and Garlic Mashed Potatoes are a solid option — especially if you’re looking to have some traditional, familiar foods on your plate. Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Brown Gravy The Beef Meatballs with Sweet-and-Sour Sauce is a tasty twist on standard meatballs. These were one of our favorite options. Beef Meatballs with Sweet and Sour Sauce Beef Meatballs with Sweet and Sour Sauce Our favorite dish of the night was Fig-Stuffed Pork Loin with Bourbon Glaze. This was phenomenal and felt appropriate for a holiday meal. Fig-Stuffed Pork Loin with Bourbon Glaze Fig-Stuffed Pork Loin with Bourbon Glaze Fig-Stuffed Pork Loin with Bourbon Glaze The Smoked Chicken with Garlic Balsamic Glaze and Apple-Ginger Relish was another great offering. It was packed with flavor and utilized ingredients often seen during the holiday season. Smoked Chicken Smoked Chicken Proteins also include Seared Salmon with Sauteed Spinach. This had a breadcrumb coating, so we’re not sure where the searing part comes in. Perhaps it was seared and then coated in breadcrumbs? Anyway, there’s salmon! Seared Salmon Salmon with Sauteed Spinach There’s also seafood in the form of Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce and Crab Claws. Shrimp Cocktail and Crab Claws If you prefer your seafood with a big ol’ helping of carbs, there is Shrimp Macaroni and Cheese. This dish is one we’ve seen on other visits to Hollywood & Vine, but it’s a tasty take on the classic. Shrimp Macaroni & Cheese The Gnocchi with Roasted Butternut Squash and Preserved Lemon is a great, seasonal option. There are bits of kale in there, too, for contrast. Gnocchi with Roasted Squash Gnocchi Stuffing is a holiday staple, and at the Holiday Dine, it’s done up with Apple, Cranberry, and Cornbread. Apple, Cranberry, and Cornbread Stuffing Another staple for lots of us? Green Bean Casserole. This one was good, with bright green beans and some crunch from toasted breadcrumbs. Green Bean Casserole The kids’ sections of the buffet offer classic kids items: Chicken Nuggets, Tater Tots, etc. If you’re a grown up, don’t be shy about the Kids’ Buffet; it’s there for you, too! Kids’ Buffet Kids’ Buffet Kids’ Buffet As you can see, the Mini Corn Dogs are a popular option. Kids’ Buffet For those with Special Dietary Requests, there’s info right on the buffet that encourages you to talk to the chef. You can ask your server to arrange that for you before you even head up to the buffet. Special Dietary Requests Plant-based items are marked on the buffet, but talk to the chef if you have special needs in this regard, too. Plant-Based Logo Plant-based items include Pan-roasted Squash, which is pretty straight-forward and maybe a bit boring. Pan-Roasted Squash The Three-Bean Quinoa Cake with Tomato Jam definitely has more going on, but it doesn’t look tremendously appetizing. Still, tomato jam is almost never a bad idea. Three-Bean Quinoa Cake with Tomato Jam If you love a pan of greens, there’s Sauteed Swiss Chard for you. Sauteed Swiss Chard There’s no shortage of dessert options at the Holiday Dine. We loved the Peppermint Blondies! Peppermint Blondies The Eggnog Cheesecake was a fun play on the holiday classic. The topping — eggnog frosting, basically — was a little too sweet for us, but the cheesecake itself was great. Eggnog Cheesecake Apple Cranberry Tarts come in these compact graham cracker shells. These packed traditional flavors and were a mildly sweet comfort food option. Apple Cranberry Tart Mini Gingerbread Cupcakes are another seasonally-appropriate choice. We liked the flavor but could’ve stood a little more gingerbread spice. Gingerbread Cupcake We enjoyed a plate of proteins and sides, loading up just like Christmas dinner! There’s Beef Roast in the center of the plate, which comes from a carving station you’ll find in the center of the buffet. Holiday Dine Plate We do love a green bean… Green Bean Casserole The Smoked Chicken and Shrimp Mac and Cheese were friendly neighbors. Smoked Chicken, Shrimp Mac & Cheese And we loved the Meatballs — definitely give them a try during your Holiday Dine. Meatballs with Sweet and Sour Sauce Desserts we had to try include the Mini Chocolate Bundt Cake in addition to the Tart, the Cupcake, the Cheesecake, and the Blondie. Desserts Desserts Desserts Let’s just say we didn’t exactly float out the door. It was more like a waddle — a very satisfied waddle. Desserts Overall the food at Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine is really quite good. The holiday flavors and typical Disney buffet foods offer something for just about everyone. Extras But the fun didn’t stop with characters and grub! We also received a fun sticker activity! It’s a cardstock wreath with ornament stickers — so you can design your own wreath! Holiday Dine Activity Sheet This is such a fun activity for the kids — and the kids at heart! (It’s possible we’ll steal this idea to keep the kids busy this winter!) Stickers Wreath We also received a Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine autograph card. This is a fun souvenir, and because the characters don’t sign autographs at Hollywood & Vine, this is the only John Hancock you’re getting from them. Autograph Card Autograph Card Nosh or Not? Book Minnie’s Holiday Dine if… You’ve just gotta see the Fab Five in their holiday best! Buffet dining is a hit for your crew, and you like to try it in every park. You’re looking looking for a character meal, and this one fits the bill. Skip Minnie’s Holiday Dine if… Character meals aren’t your thing. You prefer not to eat table service when you’re in the Parks. This style of cuisine doesn’t appeal to you in a buffet setting. Overall Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine is a tasty character meal that covers all the basic bases: good food, great character interactions, fun (though limited) holiday overlay. Meeting Santa Goofy is a real coup at this meal, and that alone may be worth the cost of the meal for some guests. Among character meals at Walt Disney World, Hollywood & Vine’s offerings are often easier to book (i.e. less popular) than others (we’re thinking Chef Mickey’s, Crystal Palace, etc.). If you’re planning a last-minute trip and a character meal is a must, you may have some luck getting a reservation here, even on the day-of. And you’ll likely be happy that you did!
