We’ve been patiently waiting for a handful of offerings to return to the parks and hotels, like Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room and even package delivery for folks staying at Disney World hotels. 1900 Park Fare And, after being closed since 2020, an iconic Disney World hotel restaurant is finally reopening tomorrow — find out everything you need to know here! 1900 Park Fare is reopening at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa tomorrow, April 10th! We’ve been keeping track of all the changes Disney has announced so far and we can’t wait to check them all out in person. There will be new menu items, new decor, and even new characters! ©Disney Disney released a full look at the menu, and we’re thrilled about the return of our beloved strawberry soup — plus the addition of new items like Tiana’s Gumbo. Some items — like the gumbo — have been added to pay homage to the new characters that will be greeting visitors at this restaurant! ©Disney Characters at this refreshed dining experience will include Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Cinderella, Mirabel from Encanto, and Tiana in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. They will all be present to “celebrate the power of a wish” at Wish Makers Enchanted Dining! At this character buffet during breakfast, adult meals are priced at $54 per person, while children’s meals are priced at $34 each for ages 3-9. Dinner is priced at $66 per adult and $49 per child ages 3 through 9. ©Disney You will also be able to use the Disney Dining Plan to pay for your meals at 1900 Park Fare, and character buffets can be a good use of credits if you were already planning to enjoy one. We’re waiting for some big news to come from The Walt Disney Company. Cinderella Castle Disney has announced several projects for the future, including updates in Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Disneyland Resort, as well as new ships for Disney Cruise Line. There are plenty of things to look forward to in the years to come, especially if we count upcoming movies, TV series, and Disney+ content. So when can we find out more information about these projects? One of the best ways to stay up to date with the projects Disney’s currently working on is to tune into the company’s quarterly earnings calls. These calls will typically go over Disney’s earnings and statistics from the previous fiscal quarter, but they also often offer news about the goings-on at the company. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters Disney just announced that the 2024 Q2 earnings call will take place on Tuesday, May 7th at 8:30AM ET. The quarterly earnings report will be released before the call starts. To listen to the call, you can tune in to the webcast on The Walt Disney Company website. Disneyland In the past, we’ve gotten details about upcoming parks projects and Disney+ content from these earnings calls, so it’s possible we could get some important news during this one as well. As a runDisney fanatic, I’m super glad that the Disney World races are seeming to increase in popularity. ©Disney After all, who doesn’t want to galavant through empty Disney parks in a fun costume while also meeting tons of RARE Disney characters? And THEN you get to wear an adorable medal around the parks! It’s super fun, and I’m happy that the events are starting to get the attention they deserve. However, there IS a downside to this increase in popularity. Y’all, these races sell out like HOT CAKES. Lately, it seems that it takes longer and longer to get through that online queue to grab a spot in the races. It’s also becoming common for a lot of folks to be waiting in said queue and not get a spot at all! Loungefly and other merch at a runDisney expo On April 9th, registration opened for the 2025 Disney World Marathon Weekend, which hosts the ONLY full marathon in the Disney Parks. It’s a popular event that only seems to be gaining popularity with each passing year. runDisney merch This year, I was only able to snag a spot in the Half Marathon after waiting in line for nearly two hours. By the time I was able to register, everything except for the half and full were sold out. The full was sold out by the time I finished my half registration. ©Disney Well, if you were hoping to register…I hope you got registered. Otherwise, it seems that you’re out of luck. There are plenty of other races to participate in, though, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated with information on upcoming races as we have it. There are a lot of changes coming to Disney World this year! We will be able to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and jam out to a new Country Bear Musical Jamboree in Magic Kingdom. As well, the CommuniCore Hall and Plaza is opening up in EPCOT. We are happy to see these trends go away! Amidst all these upcoming openings, we are also seeing a few trends making their way out the door. We are always seeing trends come and go at Disney World, but sometimes there are a few we are VERY happy to see go. Today, we are looking at five of those trends that we are NOT sorry to say goodbye to. Sometimes we are happy to see things go in Disney World So, let’s get to the five trends that we are happy to see going away at Disney World! Standing in Line for Hours for Popcorn Buckets We will forever remember the 2022 EPCOT Festival of the Arts for bringing an HOURSlong line to grab a single popcorn bucket. That popcorn bucket was of our good friend, Figment, but we are still amazed how many people stood in line to get their hands on him. He may be cute, but we don’t want to spend hours waiting for him However, since the crazy Figment popcorn bucket lines, Disney World has implemented a mobile order process for big popcorn bucket releases. You can now log into the app and place a mobile order for a newly released popcorn bucket. You select a time window for pickup, and instead of waiting in a HUGE line, you simply head over during you window to pick-up the popcorn bucket. We thank you Disney World! Standing in Lines for Checkout Similarly, Disney World has also begun utilizing a Mobile Merchandise Checkout option for its stores. While not every store has this option, many of the most popular stores do! There are enough lines without having to wait to checkout too. You can use this option at stores like Emporium, Creations Shop, Mickey’s of Hollywood, Island Mercantile, and World of Disney. Simply use the “Merchandise Checkout” option in the My Disney Experience app to scan your items. Once you have scanned everything, you pay on your phone and then present a code on your phone to one of the cast members at the exit. They will confirm your order, and you can pick up a plastic bag to carry your new souvenirs if you would like one. Rope Drop to Park Close We hear it a lot. You need to be in the park from rope drop to park close to truly make the most of your Disney World trip. While you can definitely get A LOT done during those hours, we love that many park-goers are starting to move away from this mentality. Take care of yourself at Disney World. We are seeing more and more people taking afternoon breaks or booking table-service reservations to provide a time to slow down for a bit. Being in the parks ALL DAY will be a lot, and if you are at Disney World for multiple days, you will find that it will quickly take a toll on your body. We highly recommend taking breaks in your day. You can head back to the hotel for a mid-day nap or book a dining reservation to get off your feet and into AC for a little while. Always make sure you are taking care of yourself on your Disney World vacation! You will have much more fun if your body is feeling good. Wearing Outfits That Don’t Make You Happy We think the days are over of wearing clothes that don’t make you happy. We also really want to celebrate those who put a lot of creativity into their park outfits. We have been loving the trend of more creativity being infused into park clothes! We love seeing people’s personality shine through their clothes, as well as the happiness it brings others in the parks. We love seeing creative park outfits! | @omg_jasii18 on Instagram We have seen Disney bounding and Dapper Days going on for a while, and the creativity keeps getting better and better. We love that people are using outfits to express themselves and their love of Disney. Wear what makes you happy and comfortable to the parks, whether that be colorful and out there, or plain and comfortable! No more wearing things just because we feel pressure to wear them. If you’re going to Disney World soon, it can be daunting to take in all the information and policies. Cinderella Castle For many folks, Disability Access Service (DAS) is an important option to consider. Disney has long earned a reputation for being an accommodating vacation destination for families that have a wide range of health or nutritional needs to work around, and the DAS system is just one of those tools to help families have the Disney vacation that fits with their family needs. Disney just announced that the DAS system would undergo some important changes, and if you and your family are considering utilizing the services on your next vacation, you’ll need to be aware of these. Let’s talk about it! First, let’s talk about the basics of DAS. What is DAS? Disability Access Service (DAS) is designed to accommodate guests and their families who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to a disability. The service allows you to schedule a return time that is comparable to the current queue wait for the given attraction. It does not provide immediate attraction access. Animal Kingdom Once a return time is issued, you can enjoy other theme park offerings while you wait virtually for the return time to arrive, as opposed to waiting in the queue. When you redeem a return time, you can book another return time for the same or a different attraction. So think of it like having access to a Virtual Queue for all of the attractions. EPCOT In addition to the traditional DAS system, Disney has recently introduced DAS Advance. It is a new, enhanced feature of the popular DAS program. During the DAS Advance video conference, you can select and book up to 2 DAS Advance selections for each day of your visit (subject to availability). Hollywood Studios If a selection is available, you will be given a one-hour time period during the day of the visit to redeem the selection. Selections are valid for use only on the date and during the one-hour time period chosen and cannot be transferred. If you don’t pre-register for DAS, you will not be eligible to receive the DAS Advance selections. Pandora Once you pre-register for DAS, you’ll be able to proceed to the booked attraction to confirm your identity before being able to use your DAS selections. Journey of Water With DAS, the person registered in the system will be able to get return times for themselves as well as their party — up to six people. At least, that’s how it has been in the past. Once you’re registered for DAS, it’s valid for 60 days. So…what’s changing? Starting May 20th for Disney World and June 18th for Disneyland, DAS will undergo several changes. Firstly, Disney will partner with Inspire Health Alliance (the group who handled the COVID vaccination information for Disney Cruise Line back when people had to show proof of vaccination in order to sail). Cinderella Castle Further, the party size for DAS will shift from six people to just the “immediate family,” or limit of four people. For example, if you have a DAS pass and are visiting with six of your family members, all of them would be able to join a line with you. However, if you are visiting with six of your friends, only four of them would be able to join lines with you. Animal Kingdom Next, the rules regarding pre-entitlements are changing. Right now, DAS comes with two pre-entitlements. Once the new system is put in place, pre-entitlements and DAS will not be grouped together and will be used as separate options depending on guest needs. For the most part, visitors who are eligible for DAS will NOT receive those entitlements. Slinky Dog Dash Now, one of the more helpful updates is that the DAS enrollment will be EXTENDED from 60 days to 120 days. So, once you’re registered within the DAS system, you won’t have to register again for another 120 days — which is super helpful if you’re in the parks a lot. Expedition Everest Finally, a newly-defined “return to queue” process will be put into place for people who may need to leave queue lines for a bit in order to get through the full queue. EPCOT Of course, full details regarding the process will become available when the new system updates do — on May 20th and June 18th. One of our favorite things to do at Disney World’s parks is ride their amazing rides, but when something goes a miss to thwart your plans for the day, it can be a real bummer. Magic Kingdom We’ve seen all kinds of things happen with Disney World rides like super long wait times or opportunities to ride them after the park closes. However, if you were planning to ride a few of Disney World’s most popular attractions this morning, you may need to rethink your plans! It’s always a weird morning when things aren’t going as we expect them to. So when we noticed one of Disney World’s most popular rides wasn’t running all morning, it really rattled our plans. Tomorrowland TRON Lightcycle/Run wasn’t running all morning on April 9th. And from the looks of it, we’re not sure if it will be back up anytime soon. When we checked with a Cast Member about it, they told us they were testing a train all the way through, which we took as a good sign, but nothing has happened since. We haven’t even seen any other trains running. When we checked the Disney World app it appeared that this wasn’t the only popular ride that’s been down for a good portion of the morning. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was also listed as closed and seems to be off to a late start as well. Rides do close temporarily in Disney World often, but it’s usually only a matter of time before they reopen. Keep checking your Disney World app to find out if they’re available throughout the day. ©Disney It’s not unusual for Disney World to have a few hiccups in the day, but it could be potentially problematic if these rides were a big part of your plan. Remember that Disney World has tons of other rides and attractions to do while you wait for temporarily closed ones to reopen. Most things have returned to normal in the Disney World parks after the pandemic closures in 2020. Planet Hollywood Entrance with social distancing markers However, when the parks first reopened, a LOT of things were done quite differently — social distancing was required everywhere, many rides had plexiglass barriers in between rows, and masks were required. And those were just a few of the changes we saw in attempt to ensure a safer experience. All of those are gone now, but one change does remain. Honestly though, we hope it NEVER goes away! The security lines in Disney World could be pretty MISERABLE before the pandemic-related closures. Prior to the 2020 closures, every guest with a bag had to go through a manual bag check. Security Check Point This meant that during peak times of day lines took what seemed like FOREVER to get into each park or onto the Monorail. While ensuring no one was bringing anything dangerous into the parks was immensely important, it meant you had to budget for even more time when arriving. Contemporary Monorail Security Area However, when the parks were slowly reopening after the COVID-19 closures, Disney knew that having their security touching everything inside hundreds of guests’ bags was not the best way to go about things anymore. So they introduced touchless security systems! Security Screening Now, guests just need to walk through the scanner with their bags in their hands (unless they’re in a mobility vehicle or have a stroller, then they go through a separate line). If nothing pings on the system, they’re good to go! If something in the bag sets off an alert, the guest is asked to walk over a few steps to get their bag checked. Magic Kingdom Security While this part can take a moment, it overall takes MUCH less time than it did before, and we love this change. If you’re hoping to avoid your bag going off, we recommend taking out any large metal pieces ahead of time and holding them straight out in front of you as you walk through the scanner. This could be a water bottle, an umbrella, a portable phone charger, or even a glasses case (yes, we’ve been there!). Entrance lines at Magic Kingdom It doesn’t look like Disney will go back to the old way of security anytime soon (hopefully not at all), since their employees are trained to read the touchless scanners, and it would likely require more staff to search through everyone’s bags once again. Michelin is known to review and rate tons of restaurants across the world, including in Disney World or very close by. Now, it seems they’ve set their sights on expanding their ratings and ensuring quality to another component of your vacation. This is one rating that you should definitely take notice of! Every year Michelin Guide rates select restaurants based on the quality of anonymous reviews and experience, and now they’re looking to take that a step further. The Michelin Key will now extend to hotels — that’s right, they’re going to tell you the BEST places to stay! ©Michelin If you’re not already familiar with the Michelin Key, it’s “the newest distinction created by the MICHELIN Guide to reward to best hotels within its selection.” This distinction is determined by the MICHELIN Guide Inspectors based on their experience as anonymous hotel visitors and their stays. The first round of these hotels to be awarded Michelin Keys will focus on the most outstanding hotels in France. ©Michelin Guide Their rating system ranges from one to three keys. Group Trips Sometimes group trips are unavoidable, but quite a few of our readers replied and shared that they do everything in their power to avoid going to Disney World whenever possible. Sure, it’s still possible to have a good time in the parks if you are with a group, but from what we’ve experienced, more people = more opinions which can make for some awkward moments. Group water element If you are going to Disney World with a group, there are a few things you can do to ease the tension. Our best tip is to split up! Not everyone needs to do the exact same thing all at the same time. In fact, in most situations, you won’t even be able to do that anyway thanks to Disney World rules. Taking breaks from the parks and making sure you’re hydrated can also help! Disney is bringing back one of the most popular elements of pin trading after a long hiatus! Cast Members trading pins While a community of hardcore fans have unofficially traded Disney pins for many years, Disney Pin Trading as an official Disney-sanctioned and endorsed activity, began nearly 25 years ago. Launched with a heavy promotional push in conjunction with the Millennium Celebration, Disney Pin Trading quickly took off, becoming a phenomenon amongst fans, who gathered increasingly large and ornate collections. In addition to purchasing pins and trading with other guests, one of the core elements of the hobby was trading pins with cast members, who were company-issued lanyards or pouches of pins to exchange with guests. However, the pandemic put a stop to that. When Disney’s parks reopened following their pandemic-related closures, direct trading of pins between cast members and guests was shut down for safety reasons. Instead, guests could find much more limited-in-selection pin boards near the registers of certain retail locations and could then initiate a trade with the cast member working the register. This remained the status quo (outside of Disney Springs) much to the collector’s dismay, for almost 4 years. However, that’s all changing. As of April 7th, we’re ecstatic to report that PIN TRADING IS BACK across all of Walt Disney World! That’s right, those visiting Walt Disney World will once again be able to swap pins with cast members, who will have lanyards and pouches full of pins once again across the whole resort! Disney announced the change, saying, “Today is an exciting day, Disney pin traders! We know you’ve been waiting for even more ways to trade Disney pins, and starting today, you can once again trade with cast members using lanyards and packs across all of Walt Disney World. “ 2024 Lanyard set The return of cast-to-guest pin trading isn’t the only exciting pin news out of Orlando this week, as Orlando International Airport is getting into the mix. On April 8th MCO announced that two days later on the 10th, the airport would be hosting its first-ever Pop-Up Pin Exchange event! They extolled potential visitors to “stop by & trade your pins for a chance to receive our Annie the Astronaut & Airside Carpet Socks Pin!” While pin trading with cast members may not be for everyone, it’s a major part of the Walt Disney World experience for many, and we’re SO EXCITED to have it back! There are TONS of restaurants around Disney World property. Be Our Guest Restaurant However, some of them are loved, and some of them…not so much. And trust us, we know what you’re talking about! We’ve eaten at all the restaurants and do our best to try all the new snacks that land in the parks so you know what to expect. But it seems that some of you REALLY want these restaurants’ menus to have a complete overhaul. Be Our Guest Restaurant When we asked our readers on Facebook which restaurants they’d like to see overhaul their menus, the number one answer was easily Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom. Be Our Guest Restaurant Be Our Guest is currently a table service restaurant located inside Beast’s Castle. It has a prix-fixe menu that costs over $60 per adult for lunch and dinner. While the decor and atmosphere is incredible, many of our readers don’t feel the menu matches the brilliance of the aesthetic. Inside Be Our Guest Many commenters shared that they would LOVE to see the old menu from this restaurant return, when it was open for table service breakfast and had a quick service option for lunch. This allowed more people to experience the amazing theming inside this restaurant — without committing to a huge sit-down meal. It can also be very dark inside Be our Guest, which makes it hard to see your food But that wasn’t the only restaurant our readers mentioned. California Grill, located inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort, was also called out for its prix-fixe menu. Previously, the restaurant offered an a la carte menu with more options, and while pricing was similar in comparison to the prix-fixe meal now (over $60 per adult), our readers REALLY miss the quality and variety of the previous menu. California Grill Our readers also mentioned their grievances with Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Now, we’ve never thought this meal was fantastic, it’s (again) more the atmosphere that you’re paying for. But we do agree that there were some better options on the menu in years past that we do miss. However, we do recommend eating here just ONCE during a Disney trip to really experience the atmosphere! Sci-Fi Dine-In We also did see Tony’s Town Square Restaurant in Magic Kingdom mentioned a few times, too, but we do have to say that if you haven’t tried their new menu items introduced in recent years, PLEASE go give it another try! We used to despise this restaurant, but have started to change our tune because of those newer menu items. Tony’s Town Square Restaurant At the end of the day, it’s completely up to you and your travel party where you’d like to eat and what’s worth your money. If you love these restaurants, then we hope you have the time of your life dining at them! That’s right, we said the word free! EPCOT While Disney World is expensive, there are some souvenirs and experiences you can get for free there. But it’s not every day that you get FREE FOOD in Disney World. Here’s how you can snag a free snack in EPCOT at very limited times! EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival is currently going on until May 27th! During the festival, you can enjoy special entertainment, new merchandise, the butterfly gardens, and some great food at the outdoor kitchens. Flower and Garden Festival It turns out that this year, you can grab some free Uncrustables from the PB&J Garden at select times during the weekend. If you’re unfamiliar with Uncrustables, they’re those little round peanut butter and jelly-filled sandwiches that don’t have any crust! (Seriously, these were probably our favorite part of our elementary lunchtime). Yum! There’s a catch though — they’re only given out at noon on Saturdays and Sundays! You’ll see Cast Members roll up with a large cooler full of peanut butter and jelly (both strawberry and grape jelly) Uncrustables and hand them out to anyone around who would like them. Handing out to guests! This is a great way to get a free lunch/snack in the park, especially right in the middle of the day when you might be feeling a little drag. We’ll take one! (or seven) Other than these free little sandwiches, there’s a TON of great food at all the festival booths. We stopped by every one of them, so check out our reviews so you can pick out what you want to grab while you wait for the free Uncrustables!
