  2. As Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort draws to a close, I decided to have one more look at Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park during Mickey’s Halloween Party. I really do enjoy this time of year at the Disneyland Resort. This month’s picture is a long exposure that features Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland park. The recipe: 70-200mm lens set to 110mm 4-stop neutral density filter f/32 Tungsten white balance ISO 3200 30-second exposure Here are some of my favorite seasonal highlights from Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort this year: Cars Land Haul-O-Ween Celebration Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark The headless horseman statue at Disney California Adventure park Oogie Boogie casting a spell over Disney California Adventure park main entrance Disney Parks Blog Haul-O-Ween Meet-Up Disney characters in their new Halloween costumes at Disney California Adventure park Oogie Boogie gingerbread house at Haunted Mansion Holiday “Halloween Screams: A Villainous Surprise in the Skies” at Mickey’s Halloween Party Frightfully Fun Parade at Mickey’s Halloween Party Plaza de la Familia, A Celebration of “Coco” and the Everlasting Bonds of Family (the music is incredible) And this food offering might seem a little obscure, but if you make it over to the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge, I recommend the Poison Apple-Tini – made with Crown Royal Apple, Dekuyper and cranberry juice with Green Poison Apple glow cube There’s still time to experience the season! 5. Not long after stepping into a Disney Park, you’ll soon realize there are so many stunning photo opportunities that you could probably spend the entire day just taking photos. And when you’re wearing your favorite Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse Ears, any and every moment is photo worthy! Disney PhotoPass Service knows that during a Disney vacation, incredible photo opportunities aren’t confined to the picturesque and iconic backdrops where PhotoPass photographers are stationed. That’s why there’s a select number of Disney PhotoPass photographers who stay on the move! These photographers roam around the parks capturing how you enjoy the magic. Sometimes, unexpected photo opportunities create the most treasured memories from your vacation! I adore every photo I’ve taken in front of Cinderella Castle, but my favorite photo taken by a PhotoPass photographer was of me and my family while we were sitting at a table in Magic Kingdom Park. That impromptu photo taken while we were relaxing encapsulated the delight we feel during every visit in a way no photo taken elsewhere ever has. So keep an eye out for Disney PhotoPass photographers. When you’re enjoying a Disney vacation, every moment is worth capturing! View the full article
  6. The upcoming Ale & Compass Restaurant at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is opening on November 26, 2017! ©Disney At least, that’s according to the current status on the Disney World website, which displays November 26th as the first date you’re able to make an Advance Dining Reservation for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner at this spot. This location will be the flagship offering of the new Ale & Compass dining concept for the Deluxe Resort. Disney World website screenshot The Ale & Compass Lounge will reopen from its current refurbishment and will likewise join The Market at Ale & Compass to complete the concept. So… wanna know what you’ll be eating at this “gastropub-inspired restaurant” focused on New England comfort food ? Let’s take a peek at those menus!! Breakfast Menu Before we begin, though, a word… on the day of publishing this post, the Disney World website was encountering a few technical difficulties. So, you’ll see a few spots on the menu with blanks where the item name should be. But we hopped on it anyway to show you — for starters — what’s for BREAKFAST, where Salted Caramel-Apple French Toast and a Smoked Trout Spread make for some unique offerings. Disney World website screenshot The almost-complete Breakfast Cocktail menu lists a couple of Bloody Marys, including one with a Lobster Claw for garnish. And the other features “Yacht Club Vodka.” Disney World website screenshot And here are the morning eats for the kiddos! Disney World website screenshot Lunch Menu Lobster and Corn Chowder is a potential starter for your New England comfort food Lunch… Disney World website screenshot Entrees — or Main Plates — will feature a selection of savory Pies from the restaurant’s centerpiece, the Hearth Oven. And a Grilled Plant-based “Bacon Cheeseburger” is an option for our vegetarian (and possibly vegan) friends. Disney World website screenshot Desserts feature a Black Walnut Pavlova, among other choices. And I wonder what those mix-ins will be with the puddings! But…um…why is “curd” in quotes on that lemon meringue pie? And why would I want pickled blueberries with it? Hmm… . Disney World website screenshot I wonder if the refurbished Ale & Compass Lounge will feature similar Cocktails, like the Spicy Pomegranate Margarita? Disney World website screenshot Kids’ options include both Mickey Check Meals (for healthier selections) and regular entrees. Disney World website screenshot Can I try one of the Mini Macaroon Ice Cream Sandwiches from the Kids’ Desserts, even if I’m older than 9 years old, please ? (Note, we’re guessing this will be changed to macaron on the Disney menu, soon. It’s usually Disney’s MO to put “macaroon” on the menu and then later change it to macaron.) Disney World website screenshot Dinner Menu The dinner menu expands on the Lunch Starters list with options for those Hearth Oven Pies. Disney World website screenshot Main Plates look to feature a signature Coastal Clambake and what looks to be another vegan item, the Protein Bowl. Disney World website screenshot Currently, the Dinner Cocktails, Desserts, and Childrens’ selections match the Lunch offerings. The Ale & Compass Restaurant will accept the Disney Dining Plan. Will you be making a reservation to dine there? I know I’m looking forward to it! Are you excited about the new Ale & Compass Restaurant? Please let us know with a comment! 10. In our Disney Doodles blog series, our team of Disney artists imagine what a character would do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what the Mayor of Halloween Town from the 1993 film, “Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas,” would do if he had the chance to visit Magic Kingdom Park. “The Mayor from ‘Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas’ is so welcoming!” she said. “It’s easy to imagine him standing in front of City Hall wishing everyone a terrifying Halloween!” View the full article

  12. The Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic has become a must-do food event in Orlando over the past few years. In its eighth year in 2017, the Epcot-area resorts’ festivities include innovative dishes from renowned chefs, lots of spectacular wine offerings, and a variety of informative seminars. Ticket holders for the event will enjoy the activities on Friday, October 27, and/or Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 5:30PM to 9PM. As in the past, there are several ticket options, which you can find on the event website. The Causeway Ticket provides unlimited access to food and drinks along the Causeway between the two resorts. The Causeway Ticket and Beer Garden ticket allows access to the unlimited Causeway offerings as well as the Beer Garden. There are also a la carte tickets, tickets for seminars, and a Sunday Bubbles Brunch. Click here for Full Causeway Menus Click here for Full Seminar Details The Causeway Intro and Check In You’ll want to reserve your tickets ahead of time, especially if you’re interested in specific seminars, as those are quite popular and have limited availability. This year there are eleven educational seminars planned, covering topics from sake to pasta making. The Party is in Full Swing Upon arriving at the Food and Wine Classic, you’ll need to check in to receive your menu book, plate, and glass. You’ll use these to access unlimited food and wine offerings. The Set Up — Plate, Glass, Menu — GO! The glass is branded for the event and plastic, which is ideal for hours of strolling between stations. Souvenir Wine Glass for Tasting All. The. Wines. And if you do need a break from the eats and drinks (or simply find a wine you absolutely need to have!), there is also branded merchandise and bottles of wine for purchase in the merch shop. Wine for Sale By the Bottle T-Shirts and More New for 2017 The Grand Tasting Experience is a brand new seminar highlighting northern Italy’s unique Nebbiolo grape and hosted by Master Sommelier Matthew Citriglia. Citriglia is one of only 149 mast sommeliers in the Americas, and he’ll bring rare vintages to share with the crowd. Bubbles Lounge is a new area focusing on sparkling beverages (champagne and sparkling wine) inspired by Lawrence Welk. Guests attending the Classic will receive a special entrance ticket upon check-in and are invited to enjoy the secluded and fantastically designed space. Brand new for 2017 is a seminar called Riesling, So Sweet & So Dry. This seminar will be hosted by certified sommelier and showcase the versatility of the Riesling grape. Seminars The Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic will offer eleven food and beverage seminars in 2017. These range from wine and beer to sushi and cheese. There’s something for everyone! And we can highly recommend the seminars. They’re in-depth, fun, and helmed by experienced experts. It’s worth it. In addition to the Grand Tasting Experience and Riesling, So Sweet & So Dry, seminars include: Italian Wines: Celebrate the relationship between Italians, their wine, and their food by journeying through three regions of the country. More than Malbec: Experience the world of Argentinian wine! Craft Cocktails: Understand the building blocks of classic cocktails like the Whiskey Sour, Gin Fizz, Old Fashioned, and Cosmopolitan. (We reviewed the former seminar Modern Mixology in 2015.) Beer Please: Learn all there is to know about micro brews and craft beers from around the world! Includes perfect food pairings! Pasta Making with Chef Cib: Chef Robert Ciborowski is the hero behind the Classic, and in this seminar, he teaches in the ins and outs of making specialty pastas! The Cheese Course: Explore the world of cheese — and its partnership with port wine. Fine Art of Sushi and Sake: Take a short trip to Japan via the ancient art of sushi and the complex process of sake making! Wine Blending: Learn about the intricate process of making wine in this hands-on seminar that looks at the origins of wine and many varieties of grapes. Base to Bubbles: Life is the bubbles! Experience the the basics of champagne, including learning more about five regions of Champagne! See our 2016 review of this seminar here! Beer at the Classic The Causeway So what will attendees find along the Causeway? This year, there will be booths representing all of the resorts’ restaurants, including Shula’s Steak House, The Fountain, Picabu, Il Mulino, Kimonos, and bluezoo. Additionally, there will be booths for Chef Cib’s Smoke Shop, Chef Todd English, and Pastry Chef Laurent Branlard. Complete menus for the 2017 Classic include tempting dishes like Kobe Beef Mini Burgers, Ricotta Gnocchi, Seared Florida Red Snapper, and Crunchy Chocolate Passion Fruit Truffle. As for the unlimited eats? They’ll be (necessarily!) served as small plates. That is entirely by design to allow you to try at least a bite of everything — with room left over to revisit your favorites. Meanwhile wine and beer samples will come from producers around the world. And in years past, there’s also been at least one distillery represented. St. Augustine has offered samples of craft cocktails for the past couple of years, so expect to see something similar in 2017. Dishes last year showcased a variety of eats and drinks. Below is a sample of the items offered in 2016. Sushi and Sake were crowd favorites, as one might suspect. In 2017, we’re looking forward to the Jalapeno Roll (!) and the Dragon Roll. Sushi and Sake Funky Buddha Brewery brought a bevvy of beverages for guests to try. Funky Buddha Brewery Stand Watching chefs plate their dishes is a fun aspect of the Food and Wine Classic, as these beautiful plates are composed pretty much to order. Chefs at Work Booths are clearly labeled, making it easy for guests to navigate the Causeway (and find their favorites again later in the evening!). Fresh will feature Thai Chicken Salad and Southwest Steak Salad in 2017. Fresh Booth In 2017, Garden Grove is dishing up Fish ‘n’ Chips made with sustainable bass and Seared Florida Red Snapper with Israeli couscous. Garden Grove Booth Cib’s Smokehouse Pork Belly was a dynamite part of the 2016 menu. The 2017 version will be presented with confit fennel and compressed green apple! Cib’s Smokehouse Pork Belly And sushi from the resort’s Kimono’s was elegantly presented. We expect more of the same from the Jalapeno and Dragon Rolls in 2017! Kimono’s Sushi Picabu’s booth served up tacos with a variety of fresh, flavorful toppings. In 2017, attendees will enjoy Taquerias — with pork carnitas and organic vegetables — and Authentic Chicken Tinga Tostadas — with charred tomato and chipotle salsa. Toppings for Tacos at Picabu Picabu Tacos All Dressed Up Southern favorites like Pulled Pork and Mac and Cheese were available at the Fountain booth. The 2017 menu at the Fountain booth is the place to go for Kobe Beef Mini Burgers (with truffle aioli!) and Southern Pulled Pork with Nashville BBQ! Southern Pulled Pork Slider from The Fountain Garden Grove’s booth offered up a light seared Striped Bass — with beautiful garnishes. This year the bass will be transformed into Fish ‘n’ Chips! Seared Striped Bass, Fall Artichokes, Nicoise Olives, Spanish Caper Emulsion from Garden Grove Cabana Bar and Beach Club created this stunning and delicious Bell & Evans chicken dish. Diners will savor Sweet Corn “Risotto” Arancini with a caper emulsion and Double-Fried Chicken this year, y’all! Bell & Evans Chicken Yakitori, Mushroom Tsunomo, Miso Crackling from Cabana Bar and Beach Club And lest you think the Food and Wine Classic is all savory, Pastry Chef Laurent Branlard crafted stunning desserts for the event, as always. The 2017 dessert menu looks like a winner with innovative combinations like Crunchy Chocolate Passion Fruit Truffle and Mandarin Confit. Pastry Chef Laurent Branlard and an Assistant Creating Desserts Dessert options in 2016 included Bananas Foster, Lemon Meringue, and an Eclair — among others. We loved that Bananas Foster!! Bananas Foster — Pastry Action Station An Assortment of Artisan Pastries from Chef Laurent Branlard There is live music during the event on a stage outside of the Dolphin. And the lighting during the event? Pretty freaking cool, right?? Concert Under the Stars The Causeway at Night The Swan and Dolpin Food and Wine Classic is eight years old — and it’s really getting better with age. The Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic is made for you if: You love to try new dishes and drinks and appreciate that unlimited small plates the Classic offers. You are a fan of the elegance of the Swan and Dolphin Resorts and want to extend the experience. You loved the Epcot Food and Wine Festival so much that you want to keep GOING! (The Swan and Dolphin Classic is within walking distance of Epcot!) You could consider skipping the Classic if: You don’t plan on spending time in the Epcot resort area and can’t fit a visit into your touring schedule. You aren’t an adventurous eater and don’t think this would be a good value for you. You prefer to spend less time eating and more time on Soarin’. We can’t wait to try the offerings in 2017 and to see what this festival has in store for guests. Ready to GO? My sister, Geri, lives in New Jersey. Though she was once a Florida girl, like me, she’s grown accustomed to the cold winters. She often tells me how “warm” it gets once it hits the 40˚F. That is so cold! Brittany Ungvarsky took pity on those of us with “thin” skin and created a Fall DIY that is sure to warm us right up. She masterfully shows stamp and stencil techniques to add a bit of Disney magic to your very own scarf. Download the stamps and stencils template and the DIY instructions and get your craft on with this fun project! View the full article

Specialty sundaes topped with whipped cream, sweet sauces and a plethora of toppings are served in exclusive bowls themed to Mickey and Minnie’s colorful, whimsy attire. 22. Whether in Florida or California, the Disney Conservation Fund is helping reverse the decline of butterflies through two unique programs. The first is a grant program, thanks to the Connect to Protect initiative, that has allowed guests visiting Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to participate in a mobile game and unlock a $100,000 contribution to help restore the coastal grassland habitat of the critically endangered Mission blue butterfly around the San Francisco Bay area. The second has Disney supporting the University of Florida’s McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity to breed the rare and beautiful Atala butterflies and reintroduce them to their native habitat along the east coast of Florida. Once thought to be extinct, Atala butterflies lay their eggs on only one native plant – the Coontie plant, which has been over-harvested for food and ornamental purposes. In an effort to help bring the butterflies back from the brink, Disney’s Conservation Team has developed a simple system to help raise these rare native insects. Cast members, with the help of the Animal Husbandry team, use climate-controlled butterfly terrariums made completely of recycled, reused or repurposed materials to care for the animals as they undergo metamorphosis. The terrariums are kept on the cast members’ desks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where they can be tended to continually. “It always brightened my day to come in to the office and experience this unique connection to nature right on my desk,” said Liz Clark, general manager of Discovery Island at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “It was even better knowing that those butterflies then helped pollinate flowers on the coast and contributed to a larger butterfly population.” When the butterflies emerge, they are taken to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, where resort guests enjoy the magical experience of releasing the adult butterflies. So far, guests have released more than 650 butterflies at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, and hundreds more are planned to be released. The conservation team has worked closely with Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and other communities in the area to be sure there are plenty of nectar plants for the butterflies to eat and pesticide-free Coontie plants for them to lay their eggs on. We are delighted by the success of this effort in growing the Atala population along the east coast. To learn more about how you can help protect butterflies in your area, visit DisneyAnimals.com. 27. With so many retailers (there are over 100!) at Disney Springs, I was pretty certain that we had all the major shopping categories covered. Turns out we were missing honey, hammocks and hand-made candles. No more! Three of the most recent additions to property are now open for business, just in time for the holiday shopping season, with another on the horizon. If you’re like me, any excuse to enjoy a sweet treat or a relaxing indulgence is a good one, so below are the newest offerings that will let you treat yourself or someone you love to something special: Bowes Signature Soy Candles: Located inside Marketplace Co-Op, this brand specializes in candles with cotton, eco-friendly wicks and 100% natural soy wax. Each one is highly-scented, hand-poured and labeled locally here in Orlando. My friend Heather, who is candle-obsessed, couldn’t pass up the Pumpkin scent. With over 100 varieties offered throughout the year, I have no idea how she picked a favorite. If you can’t decide, you can customize a candle by creating your own scent – smells like a winner, if you ask me. Swings N’ Things: Offering the world’s finest hammocks and porch swings, this small-but-mighty kiosk located near Cookes of Dublin is making a big impression on Disney Springs guests. I stopped by recently to check out their most popular model (pictured below) and wished I could take the afternoon off to sway the day away. Personally, I’d love one for my balcony, but I hear they also make great “homework nooks” – if that’s what it takes to get your kids to finish their nightly assignments, it might be worth checking out. Most items range from $40-$400 dollars, so there’s something to suit every budget. Savannah Bee: Now in a newly-expanded space near The Ganachery, Savannah Bee brings you the most rare, unique and delicious honeys alongside natural, hive-inspired health and beauty products. Last week, I got to sample a few of their most popular honeys and soon I’ll be returning to try out their Mead Tasting Bar with honey wines ranging from dry to sweet, still to sparking, and everything in between. If that’s not buzz-worthy, I don’t know what is. rinse bath & body co. (Opening Soon): The soon-to-open rinse bath & body co. kiosk, located near Paddlefish, will showcase natural products handmade in Monroe, GA (just a few towns over from where I grew up) including natural deodorant – the owner swears that it really works! –, essential oil roll-ons, shower bombs, and their Peppofoot collection, perfect for tired toes. I’m excited to seek out unique stocking stuffers here as it’s only the second permanent retail location for the brand. Another thing I already love? Their packaging. According to the owner, “our packaging is cute enough that you would want to gift it to a friend but not so cute that you would be sad to open it.” Just my style, indeed! Which of these new product offerings will you shop first? Share in the comments below, I’d love to know! View the full article
