  2. After “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” helped five-year-old Cora get through hospital stays while battling coronary heart disease, there was no hesitation on where she wanted to visit. So, alongside our friends at Make-A-Wish, we planned a special day for Cora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom filled with all the wild wonders of the park! At just […]View the full article
  3. Disney World’s free transportation system really can’t be beat. It’s FREE, for starters, but it’s also efficient and convenient. Disney Springs Between Disney World buses, the Monorail, the Skyliner, and boats, you can get to pretty much anywhere you need to go on Disney World property. But sometimes closures can happen that can affect how you get from point A to point B. For example in bad weather, the Skyliner closes. Other circumstances also affect transportation, and we’ve got a closure to warn you about right now. As of April 28th, the Sassagoula River Cruise Boats are currently closed. These are the boats that ferry Disney World visitors between Disney Springs and Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter. The boats are closed We spoke with a Cast Member who could not confirm why the boats are closed, but we’re fairly certain it’s not weather-related since it was a beautiful day in Disney World on the day we noticed the closure. It is also uncertain if the boats will be back up and running again tomorrow. It was a beautiful day! If you are visiting Disney World and need to get to or from Disney Springs from one of those hotels, buses are running. At Disney Springs, you can find the buses at the Town Center Bus Depot located between the Lime and Orange garages. The boat dock in Disney Springs Last year, the boats closed in June due to low water levels and were closed again in August due to construction on a retaining wall near the bridge. When we asked Cast Members about the issue, we were told that it’s possible that this is again due to low water levels, and if the area continues to encounter a lack of rain, it could be an ongoing concern. We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and let you know when the boats are running again, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 4. It’s time! Pixar Fest officially opened on April 26th at Disneyland Resort — and runs through August 4th — and we’re checking out this celebration of all things Pixar from food, to merchandise, to parades, and more! Pixar Fest 2024 And right now, we’re here to talk about THE FOOD! There’s a full menu of limited-time treats that you’ll find at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and even Downtown Disney! We’re checking out some of the special treats today…let’s see what we’re snacking on! First up, some new snacks in Disneyland Park! Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor Our first stop is for ice cream! At Gibson Girl, you’ll find the Eye Scream Cone inspired by Monsters, Inc.! This is a scoop of Pistachio ice cream dipped in green chocolate, garnished with a candy eye and horns. Eye Scream Cone If you’re a fan of pistachio ice cream this might be the snack for you. However, if you don’t care pistachios this might not be the treat for you. The shell tasted like white chocolate and didn’t melt. But the ice cream inside it did, which made it a little messy. For the price, we thought it might be a little expensive for one scoop of ice cream, but it is certainly a creative treat! Isn’t it almost too cute to eat? You can snag this specialty cone for $9.29. The Tropical Hideaway We’re taking a break in the tropics to check out the new Pineapple Coconut Float inspired by Lava. This non-boozy drink features Blue DOLE Pineapple-Coconut Juice topped with DOLE Whip soft serve, strawberry lava, and a gummy! Pineapple Coconut Float It’s blue! And DOLE Whip! And a lot of fun. It was a very refreshing treat and all the flavors worked really well together! The tartness of the pineapple went deliciously with the strawberry “lava.” It’s a perfect summer day snack that makes you feel like you’re eating a little healthier because of all the fruity flavors (so that’s a win, right?). Yum! This special DOLE Whip float is priced at $9.29. Troubadour Tavern Next, we’re headed to Troubadour Tavern for the all-new Firetown Mac & Cheese Bites inspired by Elemental. Firetown Mac & Cheese Bites These Fried Gouda mac and cheese bites tossed in four-chile rub are soft and chewy goodness! If you like spice, this will do it for ya. It was spicier than we were expecting. We were hit with spice and then got small flavors of cheese underneath. Even though it was spicy, it wasn’t overdone. If you don’t like spice, you might want to skip them, but anyone who enjoys a bit of heat will like them! So good! You can buy these spicy bites for $11.49! We’re also checking out a new snack in Disney California Adventure today! Churros near Goofy’s Sky School At the churro stand near Goofy’s Sky School we’re checking out the new Mr Potato Head Chip Churro! This churro is inspired by Toy Story and features a churro topped with crushed potato chips and a chocolate drizzle. Yum! This sweet and salty snack is possibly the best churro we’ve had in a long time. It was a warm churro that blended the sweet, salty, and chocolate flavors beautifully. We hope we can grab it again before it goes away! If you don’t like sweet and salty foods, then you’ll probably want to skip it, but we were big fans of the flavor combinations. Like chocolate-covered potato chips on a churro! You can buy your own Mr. Potato Head Chip Churro for $7.25! These are just a few of the specialty snacks you’ll find at this year’s Pixar Fest! Stay tuned as we check out even more! And remember, the special Pixar Fest food booths open up in Disney California Adventure on May 10th and we’ll be eating all the food that day! ©Disney Stay tuned for more fun from this year’s Pixar Fest at Disneyland! 5. Disney World hotels have a lot going on right now…and by a lot…we mean a LOT of construction. Disney’s Yacht Club This is especially true with Disney World’s deluxe hotels. Many of them are under construction in some way. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is getting a brand new Disney Vacation Club Villas building. The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has been under construction for what feels like FOREVER. There’s a ton of construction at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn to bring TWO new dining spots to the area. And, well, another Disney World hotel will be undergoing construction in 2025. An announcement on Disney World’s website notifies visitors that some guest rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will be under refurbishment from January through May 2025. Now, we don’t know if some rooms are going to get an update, refresh, or a re-theme, but something is definitely happening early next year. ©Disney Meanwhile, we’d also like to remind you that the pool shared by Disney’s Yacht Club and Disney’s Beach Club Resorts, Stormalong Bay, will be closed around the same time — from January through June 2025. That means you’ll want to take both construction projects into consideration if you’re making plans for a Disney World trip during that time. This is one of the best pools in Disney World, but both resorts have other pool options as well. Stormalong Bay If you have already booked a stay for 2025 at Disney’s Yacht Club, you may want to reconsider and book a different hotel during that time, depending on how sensitive you are to noise and if you have plans to use the pool. We know we’d love to! ©Disney It’s not uncommon to see or hear of celebrities hanging out in theme parks with their families, because they’re people, just like all of us. However, it’s extra special when they work with the park to surprise guests, which is what Ryan Gosling did in Universal Studios Hollywood! At Universal Studios Hollywood, you can see the WaterWorld Show, which is an incredible and thrilling display of talent, dedication, and skill. It’s sure to make your heart race! ©Universal Studios Hollywood However, they recently introduced a Fall Guy Stuntacular Pre-Show to celebrate the release of the film The Fall Guy coming out on May 3rd, 2024. The Fall Guy will star Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place, Mary Poppins Returns). 7. What souvenirs do you like to bring home from Disney World? What souvenirs do you like to get in Disney World? We know a LOT of you are all about the pins (and pin trading). We know some of us like to bring home new ornaments for our Christmas tree. Of course, ears are ALWAYS a good souvenir to grab, as are popcorn buckets and sippers. However, there’s one super UNIQUE souvenir in Disney World that we are obsessed with, and it’s BACK! So you may not have seen this souvenir before, but it’s pretty cool. If you collect Disney PEZ dispensers, you might be wondering how best to display them. Well, here you go — it’s a Monorail PEZ Dispenser Display. It’s a Monorail with little cutouts for you to put your PEZ into! SO unique and cool, right? It’s so cute This cute little PEZ holder used to be in the parks back in 2020, but we haven’t seen it since. We were so giddy to see it make a comeback! One of our team members’ mom collects PEZ dispensers and shares her monorail display with us. Here’s what the cool collectible looks like with PEZ dispensers in it. What a fun way to show off your PEZ collection. We can’t even! It’s like they’re all riding the Monorail! We found this awesome souvenir in the Emporium in Magic Kingdom. It’s available in blue AND red! While it’s designed to fit PEZ dispensers, you could certainly use it for other things. This definitely qualifies as one of the more unique souvenirs you can get in Disney World. We love it! Stay tuned to DFB for more! Planning to pick this up in Disney World soon? 10. As much as we love staying on Disney property, the experience isn’t perfect! Polynesian Since Disney opened up their first true hotels with Walt Disney World’s Contemporary and Polynesian Village in 1971 — The Disneyland Hotel does technically predate them, but has a twisting backstory that involves not being owned by Disney until the mid-1980s — staying on Disney property has become an integral part of Disney vacation experience for millions at each of the company’s resorts around the world. However, just because these hotels allow guests to remain in the “Disney bubble” for the duration of their vacation, it doesn’t mean staying at them is all sunshine and rainbows. Some of the issues that come along with staying at a Disney hotel — being able to hear the voices of those in the room next door, having to share a room — and more importantly a single bathroom – with family, and etc. — are universal across staying at any hotel. However, there are some issues that are more specific to Disney resorts. Caribbean Beach Resort One of this Disney hotel problems actually stems from one of the biggest pros of the company’s hotels. Namely, distance. Most Disney hotels are heavily-themed, sprawling properties. Take for example the Polynesian Village or Caribbean Beach resorts. Both of them are made up of dozens of buildings spread across large areas, filled with twisting trails meant to replicate their tropical settings. While this level of theming and sprawl does make for a pleasant hotel experience, it can also make maneuvering around the resort an issue. If your building is far from the main lobby and in-turn the hotel’s Disney transportation hub, it can make for very long, sometimes confusing walks to and from your room while trying to get-to-or-return-from a day at the parks… or even just a trip to the lobby. This same issue can crop up regarding pools. If your room is far from the pool, you may have a long walk back to your room while soaking wet. Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort Of note, this issue doesn’t only apply to Deluxe and Moderate-level Disney resorts. Even the Value resorts on Disney property (the All-Star Resorts, Art of Animation, and Pop Century) have some buildings that are far away from their main lobby and Disney Transportation bus stops. Pop Century Map ©Disney Also, bear in mind that while this may sound like a minor inconvenience to those guests who can relatively easily walk these paths, there are some guests who are physically unable to do so. So, What Can be Done About This? Well, for starters, do research beforehand. Look at a map of the hotel you wish to stay at and figure out which area of rooms is within a comfortable walking distance to the lobby/buses/pools/etc. for your family. Then after booking, contact the hotel and make a room request. While this can’t always be granted, often times Disney will do their best to acquiesce. Note: If you’re planning on booking through a travel agent, you can also likely make a room request through them. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Hotel Room If you find yourself checked into a resort with uncomfortable walking for you, try and contact the front desk and see if a room switch is possible. If not, there are still several options. Look into whether the hotel you’re staying at has an internal bus route that travels through the resort grounds. (If you go in this direction, be sure to build in extra time into your schedule to account for wait times). Caribbean Beach has an internal shuttle! Furthermore, make sure to look into other methods of Disney transportation around property offered from your resort. For example, while some of the buildings at Pop Century or Art of Animation are far from the main lobby and therefore the buses, they are closer the Skyliner station, which provides access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Skyliner Station There are a lot of great things about staying at Walt Disney World hotels, but there are also some problems., They can be solved, as long as guests have the know-how to do so. 11. We’re all eagerly anticipating news of the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party dates for this fall and when tickets will go on sale, but that doesn’t keep us from already strategizing our time throughout the party night. Happy Halloween! Knowing how to make the most of your time and everything that’s available to see, do, and snack out throughout Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party nights is crucial right down to how some of Disney’s most popular rides will work during the party. So if you’re looking to be a savvy partygoer, we’ve compiled a list of the longest lines you’ll see during the party (and a few tips to help you beat them, too)! There’s so much going on during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party that it might seem hard to fit it all in! If you’re looking to make the most of your night doing all the party-exclusive things like picking up candy from the trick-or-treat stops, taking in the sights and sounds of the shows, and picking just the right spot to view the fireworks, you’ll really need to strategize where to spend the bulk of your time. Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Fireworks It might come as a surprise to learn that most of the wait times for things like rides, attractions, and even trick or treating will drop through the night and stay pretty low given the reduced crowds (since this is a special ticketed event and all). Trick or Treat! Yep, your highest crowds throughout the night we’ve seen year over year are for meet and greets with RARE Disney characters you’ll only be able to see at these parties. Alright, now that you’re on board to see a few frightful friends, here’s who we’re ranking as the longest lines during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Jack and Sally It should come as a surprise to know that the pumpkin king and queen head up our list for the longest wait time to meet during this party. Seriously, it’s a very rare occurrence to find these two out at Disney World (especially in their natural Halloween element) and you’ll even get to carry a conversation with them both during your meeting. Jack & Sally We’ve seen these wait times soar to multiple hours during the night just for the opportunity to meet them, which could eat into a lot or most of your time during the night to party. Our best tip to try to meet these two is to enter Magic Kingdom as early as the party ticket will allow you to and wait to be one of the first to meet them for the night OR hop in their line during busier times of the night like one of the parade showtimes, during the fireworks performance, or toward the end of the night (but don’t wait too late because the line could get cut off)! The Seven Dwarfs This is a BANGER of a meet and greet and one that is guaranteed to see a consistently long line each and every party night. Yes, you really can live out your best Snow White dreams and surround yourself with each of the Seven Dwarfs for a quick photo (don’t worry, Grumpy really does love posing for these photos despite the scowl on his face). Seven Dwarfs If you’re not prioritizing Jack and Sally, head for these guys first or during one of those busy times we just mentioned above. We love meeting with the Seven Dwarfs and were so glad to see them return to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last year after being absent for a while. Winnie the Pooh and Friends We’re three for three here on the multiple characters at once jackpot, and the next longest line to top our list could check 4 characters off of your list at the same time. Meeting with Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore (who are so adorable in their Halloween costumes) could just be the highlight of your night. Winnie the Pooh The same tips to meet these 4 will apply here too, but either way, be prepared to wait a while on them any time you hop in line because they do a great job of taking their time to take several photos with you and they love showing off those costumes! Stitch VIVA Las Vegas (and Elvis Stitch)! This is another opportunity to see a popular character in a rare outfit! Elvis Stitch Meet-and-Greet If you’re looking to find a blinged-out version of Stitch dressed as “The King” you’ll typically find him meeting in Tomorrowland. This is another line that will fill up quickly at certain points throughout the night, but most folks like to meet him during the daytime as his bejeweled cape shines in the sun. If you can hold back your Stitch obsession for just long enough to let the sun go down, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised with a significantly shorter line to meet him toward the later hours of the party. Jafar An evil sorcerer can be found meeting in Adventureland, and it’s not one we’re used to seeing around Disney World really ever! Jafar is yet another exclusive party character we’ve met in past years during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parties as he searches for his next diamond in the rough. Jafar He’s a really fun character to meet and greet ( you know, the strong silent type), and will pause for a few photos with you if he’s deemed you worthy. But we don’t recommend taking him up on any cave adventures during your conversation. Belle and Gaston Over in Fantasyland near Be Our Guest and Enchanted Tales with Belle we’ve been able to meet Belle and Gaston around these parts. They’re a fun pair to meet considering they’re polar opposites, which gives Gaston plenty to gab about (other than himself). Leave the flirting to the professionals While you’ll typically find several princesses and princes to meet here Gaston is a popular character who knows how to attract a crowd with his charisma so we suggest you prepare a bit more time to wait in line to meet him. These are just a few of the characters you’ll be able to meet and greet with throughout the night but you’ll want to continue to be aware of the time because the characters do typically stop meeting about an hour before the party officially ends. We’ll be bringing you all the latest news and updates about Halloween at Disney World as it’s available so stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog. 12. New nighttime show? Count us IN! Happily Ever After We love the nighttime shows we get to watch in Disney World — Happily Ever After in Magic Kingdom, Luminous in EPCOT, and Fantasmic! in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, just to name a few. Now Disney just gave us a sneak peek at a new nighttime spectacular that’s arrived at one of their international parks! You’ll join Iron Man, Thor, and more Marvel characters as they rally in Tomorrowland and battle against Hydra and the swarmbots in the sky.
