The year isn’t the only thing new around Disney World… we’re on the lookout for new eats, sweets, and refurbishment feats. Please keep your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside your ride vehicle at all times as we tour all four Disney World Parks to see What’s New! Something’s always just around the corner at Disney World! Animal KingdomWe’re starting out with another WILD trip to Animal Kingdom, which includes a couple of menu updates. At Yak & Yeti Restaurant, Firecracker Shrimp and Ahi Tuna Nachos for Two join the appetizers (the Dim Sum Basket for two remains), and Ginger Salmon with Japanese Udon has been added to the noodle dishes. Chicken Tikki Masala is among the new specialty entrees, and Malaysian Seafood Curry arrives under Wok selections. Yak and Yeti Restaurant Be sure to check out the Specialty Drinks for some fun new beverages: Pink Himalayan, Kiwi Kimono, and a Rickshaw Rickie. Right next door at Local Food Cafes (also known as Yak & Yeti Counter Service), Korean Stir-fry Barbecue Chicken has replaced the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Local Foods Cafe menu At Dino Diner in Dinoland, U.S.A., the Snow Cone has been switched out for Nachos, served with just cheese or as Nachos Supreme (at least for these cooler months). Dino Diner Dino Diner Tamu Tamu Refreshments has undergone another menu refresh, currently offering the Slow-cooked Chicken Curry, Vegetarian Curry, and Roasted Chicken Salad. Tamu Tamu Refreshments This isn’t entirely unexpected, as the menu here seems to go through a standard rotation. So, if you’re disappointed that the Slow-cooked Pulled Beef Sandwich is no longer available, Hakuna Matata. It could very well make its way back around in a few months. And, as we discussed a few weeks back, Flame Tree Barbecue is closed for refurbishment with a tentative reopening of April 1st. Find out where you can find some of your favorite Flame Tree foods at other locations around the park! Flame Tree Barbecue closed for refurbishment Speaking of refurbishments, construction of the presumed location of the Animal Kingdom Starbucks (formerly the merchandise spot Creature Comforts) is well underway. These shots are from the first days of the change, and we understand that lots of progress has been made since. Creature Comforts location under refurbishment Work being done on the presumed Animal Kingdom Starbucks location Hollywood StudiosWhile we’re on the topic of Starbucks ;), many of the walls have come down surrounding what will be The Trolley Car Cafe (formerly the L.A. Joffrey’s Coffee Kiosk at Pixar Place Joffrey’s Coffee Kiosk menu If you’ve visited The Hollywood Brown Derby, you may be familiar with the book in the entrance that displays autographs of celebrities that have visited the Derby in Hollywood Studios, reflecting the “where the stars dine” tradition and reputation of the original Hollywood Brown Derby restaurants. The Hollywood Brown Derby I appreciated actor Sean Astin’s sentiment recently added to the display (dated within the new year). I thought I’d share in case others who love the Brown Derby (and/or “Lord of the Rings,” “Rudy,” or “The Goonies”) might enjoy it as well: “Here’s the thing about the Brown Derby, my parents lived it and I still love it!” Celebrity book display While lots-o’ merchandise is certainly nothing new in these parts ;), right around the new year something changed on a lot of the Four Park merchandise. Four Park Shot Glass set Disney World mugs with the Earful Tower The Earful Tower is once again the primary icon representing Hollywood Studios on the newer items, since the Sorcerer’s Hat as we knew it (and loved or hated, as the case may be) is on its way to being no more. Sorcerer’s Hat deconstruction Magic KingdomThe Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Popcorn Bucket has hit the scene at popcorn carts all over Magic Kingdom! Disney World WebsiteIf you take a glance at the menus on the official Disney World website, you’ll notice a recent change. Online menus now offer descriptions of the items (as opposed to just the names as in the past). Here’s a screen shot from a portion of the page dedicated to a hidden gem at Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Boatwrights. Boatwrights appetizer menu screen shot That’s it for this round! Ah, there’s nothing like the freshly fallen snow. When you live in a place where it doesn’t snow, it is always pretty to look at. (Let’s be honest. I don’t miss the cold and snow from my hometown.) Dining in TOKYO Disneyand: The Pizza Spring Roll
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
Having just returned from an amazing trip to the Tokyo Disney Resort, there are a few items there that I just have to share with you! The Pizza Spring Roll being basically at the tip top of my list. Yes, you read that right PIZZA SPRING ROLL! Pizza Spring Roll Located in Tokyo Disneyland’s Toon Town is this adorable little food cart that serves two types of Spring Rolls. Don’t mind my husband ordering in what appears to look like a Ninja Turtle outfit. It happened to be pouring rain! Toon Town Spring Roll Cart The two types of Spring Rolls offered are Pizza (yum) and Egg & Shrimp (not so yum). If you’re curious about pricing, 290 Yen is about $2.42. Very reasonable for a filling snack. Spring Roll Cart Menu The Spring Rolls are pre-made and awaiting your arrival at Toon Town. Both types look identical, so the different sleeves let you know which type of roll you have in hand. The red packaging is the Pizza Spring Roll and the yellow is the Egg & Shrimp. Perfect planning! Spring Rolls in Warming Shelves. Here’s a close up of the Pizza Spring Rolls in their sleeves. Isn’t the packaging cute??? On this cold and rainy day this was really a perfect snack. They are served up very warm and are really similar to a pizza flavored Hot Pocket, but instead of a bread coating, it’s stuffed into a fried spring roll. Gooey pizza sauce & cheese with a crunchy outer shell. Seriously so amazing!!! Spring Roll Guts! And one more photo just because I love the packaging so much! See Chip & Dale’s tree house back there??? It’s just like the one we have here in Anaheim. But what we DON’T have and SHOULD have here are Pizza Spring Rolls. Pizza Spring Roll in Toon Town Have you been to the Tokyo Disney Resort and had the privilege of trying a Pizza Spring Roll? If it weren’t for my dear friend, Abi, who showed us every nook and cranny of the resort, I would have never have known about this awesome snack. I can’t wait to go back and have another. Someday. What do you think? Would you try a Pizza Spring Roll? Stay tuned because I have a few more great Tokyo Disney snacks to share! The snack scene there is pretty legit… Heather Sievers is the Disney Food Blog’s Dining in Disneyland columnist. See more of her columns here! Last week’s inaugural Castaway Cay Challenge was the first of its kind for many reasons, and today I want to share photos of one of my favorites … seeing the ship lit up under the stars at Castaway Cay! The day of the race, the ship docked early at Castaway Cay and Disney cruisers competing in the challenge had the unique opportunity to go onto the island in the early hours of the morning before the sun came up. The reflection of the ship on the water is a sight runners I spoke with said they will never forget. You may remember from a previous post of mine that I had the unique opportunity to spend the night on Castaway Cay, and the photos we took then are just a glimpse at the magnificent sky you see from an island in paradise. It was exciting to see the reaction of other cruisers as they experienced the island’s night sky for the first time. Congrats again to all of the Castaway Cay Challenge runners! If you competed the challenge, be sure to share your photos with us using #CastawayChallenge. We are back to take another look into the tempting pastry cases at Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion! Learn About: Les Halles Boulangerie PatisserieEpcot Restaurants Disney World RestaurantsYou know that we love Les Halles. I never pass up a chance to stop in here for a breakfast pastry. The Frangipane Triangle is my favorite! At lunch, I often enjoy one of their deliciously authentic sandwiches, like the Jambon Beurre. It never fails to transport me straight back to France! But you will never guess what I decided to try on this visit… Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip MeringueOn my last trip to Walt Disney World I, of course, had to stop by Les Halles. And I finally took the opportunity to try the — I can’t believe I’m going to say this — Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringues. Wait. No. You have no idea how HUGE this thing is from the picture of it in the case. So, being the very helpful AJ I am, I knew I had to get one for you guys! If for no other reason, so you could see it on a plate. Chocolate Chip Meringue — In the Case Okay, here we are, out in the light at one of those great little cafe tables, tucked back into the France Pavilion. And now, you can appreciate the enormity of this meringue for yourself. Chocolate Chip Meringue — Up Close Still not getting it? That’s a fork on the plate beside it, for scale. Maybe I was a little bowled over here. But I have never seen a meringue this big in my life! Chocolate Chip Meringue — The Dipped Side Now, giant size aside, you know how I feel about meringues. Basically, they’re sweet, fluffy air IMO, and not worth spending your money or your calories on. Kind of like “foam” in a fancy restaurant. What IS that?? But this one is notable for its generous size, and also for all of that wonderful Chocolate. Because that really does make a difference here. The Meringue itself seems to be lightly flavored with Chocolate, and studded with Chocolate Chips. But then, it’s dipped in Chocolate, too. So the first good news is there’s actually flavor involved. Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringue And the second? It’s certainly big enough to share. So, if you’re a super meringue fan…or just want to be seen eating a dessert that’s easily as big as your head…it’s time to make your way over to Epcot’s France and grab one up! Don’t Miss Out on the Best Snacks in Epcot!Epcot is a snack lovers dream!
