There’s something about New York City in the fall – the leaves are turning, the air is crisp … and there’s tulle. Everywhere! Bridal fashion week takes over Manhattan and it’s a chance for designers to preview their spring collections. This year was extra special for us here at Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings because we added a new dress to our traditional eight Disney princess-inspired gowns line up – Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen.” A true modern day bride, Elsa is bold and daring while remaining regal and elegant. And she’s the only queen that could bring snow – yes, snow – to the runway for our fashion show finale! The Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings gowns will be available starting January 2015 in Alfred Angelo retail stores and are offered in signature colors in addition to white and ivory. Have you heard about our latest Disney Parks app? Disney Parks has teamed up with Kellogg’s to create a new mobile app called Kellogg’s Storybox that will add a little Disney magic to your breakfast table. Step one is to download the free app, which is available on iTunes, Google Play or in the Amazon App store. Then pick up a specially marked Kellogg’s cereal box and scan it with your smartphone to unlock an interactive storybook to use within your app. There are three different volumes you can unlock, and each one features games and activities based on Disney Parks, such as a balloon-busting game based on Toy Story Midway Mania and storybook surprises inspired by Radiator Springs Racers. Yours can also create their own Disney fireworks spectacular in the app. Play Games, Build Fireworks Shows & More With Kellogg’s Storybox App by Jennifer Fickley-Baker: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article

Pirate Night is one of the most talked about parts of a Disney cruise and a great way to show your Disney Side out at sea. During most voyages, we give landlubbers of all ages the chance to act like true seafaring “scoundrels” for an entire evening (without the possibility of having to walk the plank, of course!) Here are my tips for how you can embrace the pirate lifestyle and make the most of the night’s swashbuckling festivities on your next Disney cruise: Brush up on your pirate speak before the cruise. Practicing the delivery of your “ahoy matey” and “yo ho, yo ho” is the best way to ensure the respect of your fellow sailors. Pack the garb that best reveals your pirate style. Are you a sophisticated pirate? Consider a suede vest and a satin sash to tie your outfit together. A rambunctious pirate? An eye patch and a plastic sword are essential accessories for your evening attire. Spoil your little ones with a trip to The Pirate’s League when sailing on the Disney Fantasy. This ship’s exclusive Bibiddi Bobbidi Boutique transforms on Pirate Night to a place where children can be done up with beards and bandanas, swords and scars and earrings and eye patches. Mini pirate makeovers are also available on our other ships.Get a family photo with Jack Sparrow, Pirate Mickey or one of their best mates. How cool would that photo be for this year’s holiday card? And for those of you tweeters, you may even be retweeted by @DisneyCruise if you tag us and include #DCLPhotos. Party like a pirate as Mickey’s Pirate Crew leads you in swashbuckling line dances. Kick up your heels and rock out to pirate-themed tunes with the coolest gang of pirates you’ll ever encounter!Fill your belly with delicious pirate grub. As tempting as it will be to snack on ice cream and chicken fingers all afternoon, be sure to save room for tasty eats off our special dinner menu, like Captain Hook’s Macadamia Nut Dusted Mahi Mahi and Pirates Golden “Pot Stickers.” Do not, I repeat, DO NOT miss the night’s famous buccaneer bash up on deck. A live-action pirate showdown between the good guys and villains culminates with a spectacular display of piratical pyrotechnics – fireworks at sea like only Disney can do!Show off the skills you learned earlier in the night at “Club Pirate,” an open-air dance party for the whole family. It’s your final chance to unleash your inner pirate and dance your boots off! End your evening with a full plate at the late-night pirate buffet. All that dancing is sure to work up your appetite for a mouthwatering jumbo turkey leg!Disney cruisers, what other tips do you have for making the most of Pirate Night? There are some pretty serious debates about where in Walt Disney World you’ll find the best fish and chips. Today, we thought we’d throw a little fuel on that fire by taking a closer look at some of our favorites. Yorkshire County Fish ShopMention that you’re visiting Walt Disney World and you’re hankering for this traditional British fare, and it’s a sure bet that somebody’s gonna have an opinion. And chances are good that you’ll be told to make a beeline for the UK Pavilion in Epcot. When you get there, you’ll find two different spots that offer fish and chips. We’ll take a look at Yorkshire County Fish Shop first. Located just before you cross the bridge into France, Yorkshire is a walk-up window where they keep it simple: you can order fish and chips, a cookie, or your choice of a few beverages. Yorkshire County Fish Shop And thank goodness for simplicity, because even with it, the lines here can get loooooooonnng. But there’s a really good reason for that…the fish and chips are pretty great. Fish and Chips from Yorkshire County Fish Shop Because this spot is so busy, the fish is usually pretty fresh. The crunchy batter isn’t too greasy or heavy, and the chips really are more chip-py than french fry-like. Cross-section of fish And since it’s counter service, you can score delicious, filling food with no advance dining reservation. We also hear from lots of you that a stop at Yorkshire is a WDW ritual worth keeping during every visit! BUT — seating can be hard to find on busy days. We’ve enjoyed our Yorkshire fish and chips sitting on a curb or while standing a time or two. Rose and Crown Pub and Dining RoomAnd that brings us to the next contender: Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room right next door. Whether you’re just after a pint or you’re looking to enjoy a meal, this traditional British pub is an extremely popular stop. If you’d like to dine here, we strongly recommend you book an advance dining reservation. Outside of the Rose and Crown At Rose and Crown, you can order fish and chips off of the pub menu, or you can order them in the restaurant as well. Size and price vary depending on where you’re enjoying your fix. But having them served at a table service restaurant means that you have more choices. With a menu that includes other fish and chip shop standards, like mushy peas, you can round out the meal a bit. Fish and Chips from Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room Seating choices include comfy a/c inside, or gorgeous views of World Showcase Lagoon on the patio. Cookes of DublinBut then, there’s the relatively new kid on the block who has brought some serious fish and chips game. Yep, we’re heading to Downtown Disney for a trip to Cookes of Dublin. Cookes of Dublin Mirror Sign This counter service spot, located right around the corner from Raglan Road Irish Pub, offers a far more extensive menu than Yorkshire. With a wide array of savory pies, plus several other fried offerings, this could be the answer to satisfying everyone in your party — even if there’s a non fish and chips lover among you. Cookes prides itself on fresh ingredients and old family recipes. Fish and Chips from Cookes of Dublin We quite agree that the fish and chips here are some of the best we’ve had outside of the UK. Gluten Free Fish and Chips at Raglan Road Irish PubBut what if you follow a gluten free diet? Are your fish and chips dreams dashed for all time? They don’t have to be. Because neighboring Raglan Road Irish Pub offers not only customary fish and chips, but a gluten-free version as well. Gluten Free Fish, Pictured with Skinny Chips Substituted for Regular Chips We’ve tasted them side-by-side, and there’s absolutely nothing missing from the GF experience in terms of flavor or texture. Of course, you can also get the customary recipe, too. Fish and Chips at Raglan Road But how awesome is it to know that everyone can have their fish and eat it, too?? Columbia Harbour HouseOur final stop on our quest for the best fish and chips takes us to Columbia Harbour House at Magic Kingdom. Known for offering some interesting counter service options, the restaurant, which straddles Liberty Square and Fantasyland, is another spot that ranks highly on the “must visit every trip” list! Columbia Harbour House Technically, they don’t call it “fish and chips” here, but rather the Battered Fish Plate. I suppose that’s more accurate, since the potatoes are definitely more french fry like, and less chip-py. Either way, the fish here is tasty. But if you’re looking to change it up a little, you can get a combo of fish and the world’s best Chicken Nuggets! Fish and Chicken Combo at Columbia Harbour House That fact alone makes Columbia Harbour House a major contender in this battle. And for even more great seafood recommendations, be sure to check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining! With hundreds of details and pictures covering every food you can think of in Walt Disney World, we’ve got you covered, regardless of your craving! Last night, 200 Disney Parks Blog readers showed their Halloween Time inspired Disney Side at the Disney Parks Blog Creepy Cruise Meet-Up. The evening began with a cruise around the Rivers of America in Disneyland park, aboard the Sailing Ship Columbia. But something spooky was happening on deck … The ship was haunted by the ghosts of Disneyland past! Our ghost host for the evening, Father from Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, introduced special guests throughout the cruise – each representing special moments of dearly departed Disneyland history. Guests were visited by Miss Pumpkin Festival from the Main Street Pumpkin Festival, a dancer from the Tahitian Terrace, one of Miss Lily’s can can dancers from the Golden Horseshoe Revue, the Deputy Mayor of Toontown who once appeared in Mickey’s Toontown Morning Madness, Becky Thatcher from Tom Sawyer’s Island and even one of the Kids of the Kingdom! The Creepy Cruise concluded with a special serenade from the Cadaver Dans. As guests disembarked from the Sailing Ship Columbia, they found Frontierland filled with surprises, like their favorite Disney characters dressed in their Halloween costumes, a trio of Disney Villains, a bounty of special Halloween Time treats and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, continuing its runaway train trips just for them. This morning, we began hearing rumors of another twist in the having-lunch-at-Be Our Guest Restaurant-Saga. Learn About: Be Our Guest Restaurant -- LunchMagic Kingdom Disney World RestaurantsAccording to our friends at AllEars, Disney is now only permitting guests who have a FastPass+ reservation to dine at Be Our Guest Restaurant during lunch service. Effectively, this means that, at least for now, you no longer have the option to stand in line and wait for a table during the lunch service at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland. While this may be welcome news for resort guests, it remains up in the air at press time what impact this will have on day guests, annual passholders, and others who are not staying at a Disney resort or who cannot get a FastPass+. This is a developing story, so we’ll be sure to keep you informed as details emerge! For now, it looks like you’ll need to take advantage of a Be Our Guest FastPass+ Reservation Invitation, should one come your way. Be Our Guest FastPass+ Reservation Invitation It remains to be seen if this is another step in the FastPass+ experiment, or if it is just Disney’s method of dealing with the lunch crowds that continue to swarm Be Our Guest nearly two years after the restaurant’s opening. And with some reports trickling out that the system in place isn’t accepting FastPass+ reservations beyond the month of October, we are wondering if this is simply a transitional measure for something yet to come. We Are Always Up for Lunch at Be Our Guest! — Braised Pork Coq Au Vin Style Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog as we continue to help you decide how best to go about enjoying lunch in Beast’s Castle! The spirit of Halloween is in the air, and festive fall treats have materialized at Walt Disney World Resort hotels. I love discovering new treats during the holidays and am excited to share a few of these frightening finds with you. Right off the bat, I knew I couldn’t resist the specialty cupcakes from BoardWalk Bakery. Vanilla cake with caramel apple filling, topped with whipped cream—it’s like eating an apple pie inside of a cupcake. Whether you choose the bat or ghost cupcake, you can’t go wrong. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite haunts, and the pastry team has concocted creepy treats for Halloween. There’s something to please every palate—creamy pumpkin cheesecake and scones, spooky skeleton brownies, chocolate cupcakes with candy corn filling topped with buttercream and my favorite—a gooey chocolate-pecan torte. Step off the monorail at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and check out the spooktacular sweets. At Contempo Café, you’ll find a creepy, crawly cupcake—white cake with marshmallow filling topped with buttercream frosting and an itsy bitsy sugar spider on a chocolate web. It also seems goblins have taken over Chef Mickey’s, garnishing everything from cookies and brownies to fruit tarts and cheesecakes. Which ghoulish delight are you dying to sink your fangs into?
