We’re taking a quick trip around all four Disney World Parks and then making stops at several Resorts, where a lot of food news seems to be taking place as of late! But we’re starting our “World”-wide tour at Downtown Disney, and taking a peek at how things are shaping up as the transition towards “Disney Springs” continues on. And we may even take a sneak peek at something coming to our friends in Disneyland on the west coast. Disney Springs mural So, are you ready to see What’s New? Good! Because in the words of Peter Pan, “Here we GOOOOOOO…” DOWNTOWN DISNEYErin McKenna’s Bakery NYCOkay, so we’ve mentioned it a couple of times recently, but that’s because we’re happy that BabyCakes has a new home in Downtown Disney! We are headed back to Territory Lounge! FINALLY! Learn About: Territory LoungeDisney World RestaurantsThe lounge, located in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, is pretty much the definition of awesome when it comes to Disney resort bars and lounges. We’ve talked about the  pub grub here in the past, and it’s no secret that every time I stay at WL I find myself down here at least a few times. So during a recent stay I was excited to dig in and share the latest updates with you. So kick back for a relaxing visit. Let’s begin by taking a look around. AtmosphereYou’ll find the Territory Lounge tucked off to the left side, way past Whispering Canyon Cafe, as you enter the lobby of Wilderness Lodge. It’s fully separated from that animated restaurant, so don’t let its close proximity put you off. It’s fairly quiet in here. Bar Area and Round Table Seating There’s sort of a nostalgic hunter’s lodge feel about the Lounge, matching the feel of the whole resort. Wood paneling, paintings of wildlife, and antiqued walls give that sense that you’re in a bit of a man cave. Rich Colors and Comfortable Seating Make the Space Inviting Americana Decor and a Cozy Loveseat Make for an Inviting Space Intimate tables for two along the wall offer that “didn’t-get-here-early-enough-to-get-the-easy-chairs” seating. Intimate Seating Along the Paneled Wall I love the shadowboxes that hang just above these tables. They’re full of interesting expedition objects, and the faint glow provides nice light. Cool Shadowboxes Use Old Expedition Tools as Decor But, of course, I always seek out the comfy seating in a Disney lounge, and Territory doesn’t disappoint. Curling up in these easy chairs with a nightcap seems like the perfect way to end a Disney Day. Comfy Chairs and the Framed Flatscreen Be sure to check out these guys, too! The carved bears beautifully convey the Arts and Crafts spirit epitomized in the Wilderness Lodge Decor. Carved Wooden Bear Holding up the Bar All in all, the space is on the small side, but that only lends to its feeling of comfort. EatsAs you know, on my Disney trips I just pretty much eat all day, so I was really just looking to have a drink and maybe a snack or two. You’ll find the trendy Moscow Mule on the newest Standard Disney Bar Menu, and I’m sure it’s been a hot seller. Menu — Moscow Mule and Blue Mule On this visit, I went for the Blue Mule. The plain version is a bracing combination of Russian Standard Vodka, Fresh Lime Juice, Agave Nectar, and Ginger Beer. The Blue Mule adds Blueberry Flavor to the mix. I enjoyed it, though the ginger beer taste was pretty strong. Don’t choose this one if you’re not a Ginger fan! Blue Mule Although I wasn’t starving, I was still having a bit of trouble coming to a decision about what to order food-wise. And that’s where my awesome server stepped in! Really, the staff here are some of the best in the business. They’ve all worked here for years, and they make every visit to Territory extra special. When I couldn’t decide right away what to order, my server brought me a small tasting portion of the “PNW” Nachos to try! When I visited they featured Pulled Pork, along with Apple-Cranberry Salsa, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, and Sour Cream. While they were delicious, I ultimately decided to go with a couple of other choices. (Incidentally, the current menu swaps out Buffalo Chili for the Pulled Pork.) A Tasting of the “PNW” Nachos, Courtesy of My Awesome Server! There was something not 100% awesome about these nachos. I think I wanted more cheese, and the tanginess of the cranberries was a little much. Now, if you’ve read my previous Territory Lounge review, then you know all about their incredible Fondue. I couldn’t help but order it again. Previously, the ingredient list featured Beer, but now it’s offered as an Oregon Pinot Grigio Fondue. You may find them interchanged, depending on the seasonal whims of chefs. No matter. They are equally delicious and I highly recommend both! Oregon Pinot Grigio Fondue with Bread and Seasonal Fruits The Fondue is served in a small cast iron pot with lots of dippers accompanying it. These are usually sturdy Bread Cubes as well as Seasonal Fruits. My assortment included Sourdough, Fresh Apple Chunks, and Dried Fruits. All of the items were great complements to the rich, tangy cheese. Pinot Grigio Fondue — Up Close You cannot set foot into Territory Lounge and not try this. Seriously. But I’m not finished strongly recommending items yet. Because while I had enjoyed the Fondue before, the next item was new to me. Truffle Fries with Roasted Garlic Aioli have joined the line up since I last snacked here. And I had to see how they compared with other similar offerings. And the answer to that question is……….EPICALLY. Yup, these are some of the best Truffle Fries that I’ve had at Disney. But you guys know me — it’s all about the sauce. The Roasted Garlic Aioli is outrageous. In fact, since we’re all friends here, I’ll tell you a dirty little secret. Later in my trip, I asked the cast members at Territory to box up an order of these for me — with two sides of sauce — and I took them up to my room and ate them all alone. Yes. Yes I did. Feel free to refer me to your favorite therapist. Truffle Fries with Roasted Garlic Aioli And guess what? Those truffle-scented fries also went beautifully with the fondue. (Another recommendation from my awesome server.) Oregon Pinot Grigio Fondue with Truffle Fries Because fries and cheese. With that, I called it a night, having added another incredible Territory Lounge visit to the long list. OverallIt’s always fantastic to visit one of my favorite spots with the intention of making sure it’s still fabulous — and find that it’s just as good as it’s ever been. I know that if you’re staying at, say, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you probably aren’t going to make a special trip to Wilderness Lodge just to have a nightcap at Territory. But if you did, it would be worth it. Truly, if you are looking for a special place to meet with friends and enjoy some delicious dishes, give Territory Lounge a try. The staff, the ambiance, and the food and drink offering combine to make this spot something very special. Have you stopped by Territory Lounge for a nightcap or a bite to eat? Raglan Road Irish Pub at Downtown Disney continues to be one of my favorite spots to gather with friends. Learn About: Raglan Road Irish PubDowntown Disney Disney World RestaurantsAlthough the major overhaul of the Downtown Disney / Disney Springs area makes getting here more difficult, I think it’s worth the time and effort to make it happen. You’ll find Raglan Road right in the front of what was formerly known as Pleasure Island, but what is slowly morphing into The Landing at Disney Springs. Indeed, so much work has taken place in this area (finally!) that you’ll hardly recognize it if you haven’t been there for a while. Let’s take a quick look at the immediate area, and also have a little look around the Pub before we settle in for the food talk. AtmosphereSo…how long’s it been since you visited Raglan Road? Because the landscape around the Pub has definitely changed a bit. At least, for the time being. If you’re accustomed to approaching Raglan Road from the (previously) adjacent parking lot, you might be a little disoriented. Raglan Road — Outside, with Construction Walls We actually parked in the completed West Side Parking Building, and the exit brings you out in front of Planet Hollywood. From there, it’s just a short walk, past some of the new Disney Springs shops, to reach Raglan Road. Don’t let all of those construction walls put you off. Once you’re inside, it’s exactly the same, and you’ll start to feel that sense of the familiar as you step into the foyer. Entrance Foyer The gift shop is located to the right. You’ll find a good assortment of Raglan Road merch, but there are also some interesting items that would make awesome gifts. Gift Shop You can choose between two bars. And be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to look around — the bars and other trim in the pub were actually salvaged from pubs, churches, and other spots in Ireland. That sense of nostalgia and antique? Totally authentic. One of the Two Bars Raglan Road is pretty large, boasting three separate dining rooms, plus a snug and a few inviting corners. For a more extensive tour, check out our most recent lunch review. Recently, I had the chance to sample some of the new menu items that Raglan Road has introduced just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. EatsThe staff of Raglan Road were excited to share some delicious new dishes with us. To showcase them, we enjoyed a sampling of several new items at a recent luncheon. Dinner Menu — Click to Enlarge Raglan Road fans will be relieved to see that a lot of their favorites, like Dalkey Duo and Nom Nom Wings, made the cut. Menu — Appetizers — Click to Enlarge Likewise, there are a couple of new Entree options that we’ll look at, but all of the signature items remain. The New Dinner Menu — Entrees — Click to Enlarge Menu — Salads and Sides — Click to Enlarge While what you see here may not be plated in exactly the same way it was for us when you order it, you’ll get the idea from the pictures of the fives courses we enjoyed. We also have several drinks to show you. Don’t worry; what you’re about to see was a team effort, and not my own personal parade of drinks. To keep things straight, I’ll share the cocktails as they were served — paired with each course. We began our meal with an aperitif, an Irish Honey Cup. The refreshing drink combined Bushmills Irish Honey, Pimms, Fresh Lemon Sour, and Sprite for a little sparkle. The drink was garnished with Cucumber and Fresh Lemon. Irish Honey Cup We began with Harry’s Beef Carpaccio, a combination of Seared Beef Tenderloin with a side of Greens and Tomato, simply dressed with Creamy Anchovy Vinaigrette. The dish is garnished with freshly shaved Parmesan… Harry’s Beef Carpaccio …and an Anchovy Filet. I confess, this wasn’t my favorite part. But others seemed to enjoy it. And it was certainly a showstopper! Anchovy Garnish on the Carpaccio Our next course would be an exploration of some of the new brunch items, so our cocktails were ones that matched particularly well with those breakfast dishes. From left to right, we sipped on Grapefruit & T, a Strawberry Fields Mimosa, and a Bitta Hop On. The Grapefruit & T was a continental combo of Gin, Tonic, Aperol, and Grapefruit. It was the perfect off-sweet sip for morning time. The Strawberry Fields Mimosa is a true brunch cocktail, and only appears on that menu. A fresh Strawberry Syrup combines with Ciroc, Lemon Juice, and Aperol. It’s topped off with Prosecco for a little celebratory effervescence — perfect for the weekend! Finally, A Bitta Hop On is the Pub’s take on another popular trend — a beer-based cocktail. You’ll taste Gin, Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA, West Indian Falernum, and Orange Bitters. But the drink benefits from the sweetness of a special house ingredient — Guinness Glaze! Yep, the same wonderful stuff you dip your bread in! Grapefruit & T, Strawberry Fields Mimosa, and A Bitta Hop On Sampling the Brunch Menu on a weekday afternoon was kinda fun! You’ll find the special menu served on Saturdays and Sundays from 10AM to 3PM. We had the opportunity to try the Smoked Salmon Pancakes served with Creme Fraiche, Ellis Isle Steak and Eggs, and Pork Hashed Tagged. The Smoked Salmon on Potato Pancakes were a favorite of some of my companions, while I really enjoyed the Steak, which is served with a Battered Poached Egg! (On this plate, you see it with the hash, but when you order it, it will be served with the steak.) Smoked Salmon Potato Pancake, Ellis Isle Steak and Eggs with Shallot Emulsion, and Pork Hashed Tagged with Battered Poached Eggs But that Hash deserves a moment, too. With Braised Pork Belly, Scallions and Potato, it’s a beautiful way to re-imagine a familiar favorite. Brunch Sampler Platter, Close Up of Battered Poached Egg Soon, we were treated to another round of drinks. This time out, we enjoyed Our Whiskey Sour, the Smoking Margarita, and Blueberry Mint Lemonade. Our Whiskey Sour is a well executed version of a classic — although I would like to taste just a little more sour. (But then, I am a huge fan of sour drinks. So that might be a personal preference.) But I felt that the Blueberry Mint Lemonade was somewhat tasteless. I needed more flavor here. The most interesting choice in this crop was the Smoking Margarita. If you’re looking for a traditional margarita, this one may surprise you a bit. Patron Silver is combined with Connemara Peated Irish Whiskey, which gives the drink a distinctly smokey flavor. That sense is carried through by the Smoked Paprika and Sugar Rim. Our Whiskey Sour, Smoking Margarita, and Blueberry Mint Lemonade As we sipped on these citrus-based cocktails, we enjoyed the next course — Cod Cornucopia. Fresh Cod is seared to yield a crisp skin, and is served on a bed of Warm Mustard Potato Salad with a garnish of Chorizo Vinaigrette. This was one of the highest rated dishes at the table, and I loved it, too. The Chorizo Vinaigrette was simply outstanding. And you guys know I’m not a fish eater, but I ate every single bite of this one. Cod Cornucopia Next up, we sampled two cocktails that highlighted the spicy bite of Ginger. Teelings Whiskey Punch combines a Small Batch Irish Whiskey, Apple Cider, Ginger Beer, Angostura Bitters, and Fresh Lime Sour. A garnish of Candied Ginger allows you to stir even more of the spicy flavor into your drink. But we flipped for the Ginger Mojito, with its flavors of White Rum, Lime, Sour, and Ginger Beer. Teelings Whiskey Punch and Ginger Mojito The stronger flavors complemented the next course of Meats particularly well. In order to accommodate our large party, they were served family style. To begin, we sampled the Double Joint, a 28-ounce Bone-In Ribeye for two. It was added to the menu as a request from guests who love the idea of Host the Roast, but would prefer a smaller version of that family-style menu. Double Joint — 28-Ounce Bone-In Ribeye Our other entree was the Proud Pork, a Bone-In Grilled Pork Chop, served with Cracklins. Proud Pork — Grilled Pork Chop Each of the meats is served with homestyle sides. Fat Chips (which just means wider-cut french fries), roasted and fried Veggies, and a Salad of Greens come with the Ribeye, and Colcannon Potatoes accompany the Pork. Colcannon Potatoes, Roasted Vegetables, Fat Chips, Salad of Greens But wait — there are incredible Sauces as well! The beef is served with Béarnaise and Red Wine Jus. Enjoy the pork chop with House Made Applesauce and Cider Port Jus. Sauces — Applesauce, Béarnaise, Red Wine Jus, Cider Port Jus For our final course, we once again returned to the Brunch Menu to sample a couple of new offerings. We enjoyed small sips of Raglan Road’s Seasonal Fruit Smoothie with Honey Yogurt and Vanilla. The not-too-sweet drink will be a great addition to a light breakfast meal. Seasonal Fruit Smoothie with Honey Yogurt and Vanilla But the final offering was a great one — Champion Cheese, the Chef’s Featured Farmhouse Cheese Selection. The day we visited, it included three varieties. On the first plate, you’ll see Carrigaline Farmhouse, an Irish Smoked Cheese, and Brandonvale Vintage Cheddar Cheese. They were accompanied by Crisp Toast and Apricot Chutney. Champion Cheese — Chef’s Featured Farmhouse Cheese with Seasonal Accoutrements But the star of the cheese show was this gooey Cooleeney Farm Daru Irish Cheese. Served hot and bubbly, it was similar to Brie, and truly incredible. Had this been the first thing served, we may not have made it to the other courses. I could totally have made a meal out of this cheese! Champion Cheese — Cooleeney Farm – Daru Irish Cheese And yes — if you can believe it!! — there was one more cocktail. The truly stunning Raspy Old Fashioned combines Tennessee Whiskey, Guinness Glaze (!!), Sour, and Fresh Raspberry Puree. If you had told me that Whiskey and Raspberries would go so well together, I wouldn’t have believed it. But this is a great drink. Raspy Old Fashioned After such an incredible meal — you guessed it. I didn’t eat or drink much for the rest of the day! (Oh, who are we kidding. I had three more lunches and two dinners.) But I did do a whole lot of walking — I’m pretty sure my pedometer read about 14 miles on this day. OverallOnce again, Raglan Road impresses. I don’t know how they do it, but the Pub continues to deliver delicious fare, with passion and humor, in one of the most entertaining settings in all of Disney World. And that’s what I love so much about it. There is such a strong thread of respect for tradition running through the menu. You won’t ever go wrong with Fish & Chips or Keen Eye for Shepherd’s Pie. But then, they’re right there, changing things up in surprisingly traditional ways! And yet, they stay on trend with the addition of so many fresh cocktail options. AND — don’t forget the music and dancing! Speaking of… let’s talk about a fun upcoming event at Raglan Road that’s becoming a favorite tradition for many. The Return of the Mighty St. Patrick’s FestivalOnce again, Raglan Road celebrates the luck o’ the Irish with their Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival. Have you enjoyed learning Norwegian phrases for your Disney cruise as much as I have? I have one more video from this fun series to share with you today. This video features Kenneth, a local you may meet during our Molde Folk Museum & City Tour. Hear what phrases he has to teach you … Now that I’ve showcased Port Adventures in Molde, Geiranger, Alesund, Stavanger and Bergen, I want to highlight more Disney-exclusive excursions in two of our other Norway ports, Olden and Kristiansand … Iconic Fjord Horses in Olden From the quaint village of Olden, you’ll travel to a Norwegian Fjord Horse Center to experience one of the world’s oldest breeds and one of the country’s national symbols, the Norwegian Fjord Horse. The adventure includes an up-close look at the stallions, mares and foals in a tour of the stables. Disney cruisers also have an opportunity to interact with the horses and see these magnificent animals in action during a dynamic riding performance before meeting the local students who come here to train and care for their horses. A Taste of Norway in Kristiansand For those with a culinary passion, a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line in centuries-old Kristiansand provides the perfect hands-on cooking experience. You’ll don aprons and create Nordic specialties, such as succulent wild game filets and krumkaker, a heavenly waffle cookie typically served around Christmastime. Then, you get to sit back and relax, enjoying your sumptuous meal paired with a glass of wine. Those of you joining us in Norway this summer, tell me, which of the Port Adventures I’ve shared with you are on your family’s must-do list?
