  3. Yes, some people live in Disney World. ©Golden Oak Realty No, we’re not talking about Annual Passholders who visit the parks multiple days a week (like we do) or even Disney Vacation Club members who choose a Disney hotel as their home resort. We’re talking about Golden Oak, Disney’s literal neighborhood! However, there are a lot of lies about this neighborhood that we need to clear up! If You Live in Golden Oak, You Get Club 33 Access Unfortunately, this is a complete lie. Club 33 is Disney’s most exclusive club, and there’s a dining room location in every single park. New Orleans Square Club 33 in Disneyland It was designed as a spot for Walt Disney to entertain personal guests and VIPs in the park, though he passed away before he could use it for its intended purpose. Those who live in Golden Oak do not get access to Club 33. Those who want to be a Club 33 guest must either be related to a Club 33 member, be invited to dine by a Club 33 member, or join a yearslong waitlist, pay to join and pay annual dues. You Get Free Disney Park Tickets This is another lie, unfortunately — Club 33 members do not get free tickets to any Disney parks. Spaceship Earth They do get access to concierge service, which can help them book Disney vacations, VIP Tours, and things of that nature, but they pay for their tickets just like everyone else. It’s One Neighborhood Surprise! This is another lie — Golden Oak isn’t just one neighborhood, it’s actually 8! ©Golden Oak Realty Homes in these different neighborhoods all look different and are priced different. Their names are: Carolwood Kimball Trace Kingswell Marceline Silverbrook Symphony Grove The Cottages at Symphony Grove Four Seasons Private Residences Orlando It’s Where Disney Icons Live Now, you may think that living on Disney World property means that it’s reserved for Disney icons, but that’s not the truth! ©Golden Oak Realty The truth is that ANYONE can live here, just like most neighborhoods in the world. If you’re able to afford the price (we’ll get into that in a second), you can live here! It’s Affordable Pardon us, we’re laughing here a little. ©Golden Oak Now, you may not expect it to be cheap to live on Disney World property, and, well, it’s not. Houses here START at $2 million…yes, we said START. We dream of a time when living in Disney World would be affordable for us! It’s Not THAT Close to Disney World Disney World spans nearly 43 square miles, and not all of it has been used. So Golden Oak really can’t be that close to the Disney World parks, right? @Zillow Well, it depends which park you’re talking about, but Golden Oak as a whole is located only 4 miles away from Magic Kingdom! @Zillow Golden Oak is a part of Disney World many of us will never see, but hey, if you or someone you know gets to see or LIVE in one of these mansions, please let us come over for a visit, okay? We promise we’ll take our shoes off before we come inside. @Zillow As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news! These are 5 lies everyone believes about Disney Cast Members! 4. The EPCOT Festival of The Arts is in full swing, and we have tried the food, witnessed the entertainment, and found amazing art pieces! We spent the first day of the Festival of The Arts walking around soaking it in, and we came across something that made our jaws DROP. Festival of the Arts We think we just found the most expensive souvenir you could take home with you from this festival! We found the most gorgeous painting of Mrs. Potts and Chip from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Festival…but it comes with a HEFTY price tag. Mrs. Potts and Chip This painting is a beautiful oil painting on canvas by the extremely talented Nath McCullough! There are six hidden Mickeys within the painting, which makes it extra fun for Disney fans. Up close But here’s the thing: The price tag on this piece is $18,000. If you have a few extra thousand lying around and you’re wondering what to do with it, you can bring this piece home with you! Nath McCullough Painting Info We were able to get up close to the painting and must say that it is an absolutely incredible display of artistry and technique. The brushstrokes are intentional and proud, piecing the painting together like a mosaic of color and imagination, just as whimsical as the attitude the painting portrays. Mrs. Potts and Chip! We love seeing the pride artists have when displaying their pieces and the feelings their paintings evoke is incredibly special! Nath McCullough’s painting is a 39×45 original oil painting and is simply an incredible piece that we loved seeing! Although we might not quite have it in our budget to take this one home, we certainly loved the chance to see it and admire the work. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on all the latest Disney news! 8. We LOVE the After Hours Events in Disney World, and we know many of you do, too! After Hours Wristband After Hours events come with free snacks and special character meet and greets, but the REAL attraction to buying a separate event ticket to be in a Disney park after dark is LOW wait times! We ran into a problem with ride wait times recently at a Disney’s Hollywood Studios After Hours Event, though, and we wanted to tell you about it just in case it happens to you! The rides with the consistently highest wait times at Hollywood Studios are Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash, so we were excited to ride them with lower waits during After Hours! Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge The After Hours Events at Hollywood Studios run from 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM, but when you buy a ticket, you can get into the park anytime after 7 PM. That means you’re in the park for a couple of hours before it closes to daytime visitors. On the night we went, the wait for Slinky Dog Dash was 45 minutes at 8:30 PM, and though we suspected that would drop pretty quickly with daytime visitors exiting the park, we decide to wait to ride. Slinky Dog Dash At 9:30 PM when the event started, Slinky Dog Dash — which often has the highest wait time in the park — was at 30 minutes. So, we decided to wait some more. However, Slinky Dog Dash went down after that, and was down for a couple of hours. Would we miss our chance to ride? Slinky Dog Dash wait time at 9:30 PM. Luckily, this ride came back at about 11:30 PM, with a posted 20-minute wait time. We were able to ride with the short lines we were expecting, but we were worried! Our advice is that if a ride is a priority to you, ride it when it’s available and don’t wait — even during an After Hours Event. Ride can and do go down at Disney World for a variety of reasons, and you don’t want to miss your chance to save 10-15 minutes! Here’s everything included with your After-Hours ticket! 9. It is no surprise that in 2024, big brands are continuing to innovate their industries and try new things! We’ve seen it with Disney’s Apple Fritter Milkshake, combining things that you don’t think work until they do! Apple Fritter Milk Shake But this time, iconic roller-skating fast food restaurant, SONIC, is dishing out new flavor profiles that you’ll need to see to believe. SONIC’s newest flavor combination is peanut butter and bacon. Yes, you read that right: peanut butter and bacon. This combination can be found in both their “Peanut Butter Bacon SuperSONIC® Double Cheeseburger” and their Peanut Butter Bacon Shake. ©SONIC SONIC’s Double Cheeseburger sees peanut butter layered between two beef patties with crispy bacon, grilled onions, and melted cheese on toasted buns. Their peanut butter bacon milkshake takes peanut butter and bacon and mixes it into a vanilla ice cream base, topping it with whipped cream and a cherry. ©Sonic We’ve seen maple and bacon flavor profiles meld well like the Maple Bacon Beignets in Disneyland, but SONIC is delivering in a different way. Maple Bacon Beignets We are interested to see how this flavor combination works! Stay tuned to DFB for the latest food news and more. More Fast Food News Can Be Found Here! 11. Okay, where are our loyal Costco shoppers at? ©Costco So, you probably already know about the Costco deal you can get at Disney restaurants. We bet you’ve bought discounted gift cards with your Costco membership (SAME). We’ve even saved money on flights through Costco. Yes, we now pay a little more for membership, but it’s worth it, right? Or is it? Because some folks are questioning things after Costco just made a controversial change in its food courts. If you’ve visited the Costco food court, you’ll probably know there’s a churro on the menu — and y’all, it’s pretty good. In fact, it’s got quite the reputation and is much loved by Costco members. However, if you visit Costco right now, that churro…well, it’s gone. And it’s been replaced with a cookie. Yes, Costco just introduced a new Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie, but where’s the churro? WHERE IS THE CHURRO? Where’s the churro? Yes, we visited our local Costco because we couldn’t believe it when we heard that the churro was gone. Why get rid of a snack that everyone seems to love? But yep, it’s gone. And all we get is a cookie. Sure, the cookie sounds good, but a churro is always better than a cookie, in our opinion. Here’s a better look at the cookie. Sad little cookie Also, the cookie does live up to the “Double” as far as its size goes, but we’re hardly seeing ANY chocolate chunks. This one has like two…c’mon, Costco, what gives? And it’s not just us who are upset. We saw TONS of social media posts about this, and everyone agrees: BRING BACK THE CHURRO. Now, we didn’t try the cookie because we’re bitter, but there you have it. If you visit your local Costco, now you won’t be surprised, although you may still be a little disappointed. 12. It’s an age-old argument: Disneyland vs. Disney World. Pumpkin Spice Churro Now, those who have been to both parks have arguments on why their favorite is the best. However, it’s hard NOT to be biased towards Disneyland just because it’s the CLASSIC and original park where Walt strolled down Main Street, U.S.A. Hey, his apartment is still there! But there’s something even MORE important that makes us choose Disneyland over Disney World, and that is THE FOOD. Yep, we said it. Disneyland food > Disney World food. Sure, we could go on and on about those Corn Dogs from the Little Red Wagon for DAYS. We could talk for WEEKS about churros (and churro toffee). But there are now 15 MORE reasons why Disneyland beats Disney World at the food game. That’s because Disneyland just added 15 NEW menu items to its parks! Churro Toffee in Disneyland See? That’s something we don’t see often in Disney World. Yes, Disney World often adds a lot of snacks, but they’re usually seasonal snacks. Disneyland just added a ton of snacks JUST BECAUSE. This happens ALL the time, too. So let’s take a look at all these delicious treats that are now available in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Disneyland Red Rose Taverne Vive Le Bacon! 13. We are collectors of Disney souvenirs. And when you bring Disney and Starbucks together, we just gotta have it. Main Street Bakery aka Magic Kingdom Starbucks We can’t help ourselves. When we go to the parks, we gotta stop by Starbucks for a quick “pick-me-up” drink. And when we go shopping, of course, we stop by the mug section. Recently, we were looking through the mugs when we spotted an all-new Starbucks Disney ceramic mug! It’s adorable, and there is a variety of them. You may have heard of the Starbucks “Been There” series of mugs. There are mugs for all over the world (and even the Disney parks). You may have seen the most recent “Been There” mug, the Arendelle version from Frozen! The new Arendelle “Been There” mug Well, it seems that Starbucks and Disney have collaborated to create a new series of mugs that are pretty similar to this “Been There” series. The new series is called the “Discovery Series” and it is a Disney Collection — which makes us wonder if these will be limited to just Disney locations as opposed to the “Been There” series. We first saw one of these mugs in Disneyland at Market House along Main Street, U.S.A. Disneyland Discovery Series mug We also noticed there was a matching ornament! It is seriously the cutest thing we’ve seen today — it’s so tiny and adorable. Disneyland Discovery Series mug ornament But then we spotted a couple of Disney World versions! In Magic Kingdom, you can find one of these mugs (in the Magic Kingdom variety, of course) at the Emporium and Main Street Bakery. Magic Kingdom Discovery Series mug But that’s not all! We wandered over to EPCOT to see if we could find one there, and guess what? WE DID! The EPCOT version was at Creations Shop (which isn’t too far from Connections Café, the park’s Starbucks). EPCOT Discovery Series mug These mugs are super cute with very cool colors. But our favorite parts about each of them are the updated park icons you can see on them. EPCOT now has the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind icon on it… Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind …and Magic Kingdom’s has a TRON Lightcycle / Run lightcycle, as well as many other popular park icons. There’s a TRON lightcycle! These have become our new mug obsession and we’ll be taking one of each, thank you very much! You can pick them up for $24.99. We can’t wait to see what other mugs in the new series come out. Until then, keep following DFB for more Disney news! FULL List of Disney Starbucks Cups You Can Buy Online RIGHT NOW! 15. Disney has big plans for its existing theme parks, including investing $60 billion to expand its parks. Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom But what about NEW theme parks? With Universal expanding outside of Orlando and Hollywood, will Disney continue to expand internationally? Well, a new partnership could provide a hint that Disney might eventually put a theme park in India. According to CNN, a theme park in India could eventually happen. Let’s start with some background on Disney’s history with India. When Disney bought 21st Century Fox, it also acquired the Star India network. That gave Disney a new audience of over 700 million people. However, it hasn’t been all rainbows and unicorns. India has proven a challenge for Disney, particularly after the company lost streaming rights for the Indian Premier League cricket matches. Disney 100 Logo Disney is trying to improve business in India, though. Reportedly, the company is in discussions with Reliance Industries, the company that beat Disney for those rights. The two companies seem to be considering combining their businesses in the country, giving 51% ownership to Reliance. The merger could happen as early as February 2024, per CNN. ©Disney Disney CEO Bob Iger has previously said that the company is “looking … expansively” in India and “considering our options there.” While Disney’s TV business is currently doing well in the country, Hotstar, Disney’s streaming app in India, has lost millions of subscribers due to the loss of the deal to stream the cricket matches. In 2023, Hotstar also stopped streaming HBO content when HBO’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, took that content to Reliance’s JioCinema. ©Disney If Disney and Reliance merge, the combined entity would be huge and would include over 100 TV channels, as well as two streaming platforms. Considering streaming has always been Iger’s #1 priority since his return to the company, this idea might have some potential. This partnership could involve more than streaming, as both companies have businesses outside of media and entertainment. Some industry experts believe that this could eventually involve the two coming together to build a theme park in India, according to CNN. Will it happen? Who knows? But it’s certainly going to be interesting to see what happens if this merger happens and what comes out of it. We’ll keep an eye out for more details, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 16. We’ve seen a LOT of change happening in Disneyland over the past year. Pixar Place Hotel ToonTown got a WHOLE revamp WITH a new ride (well, new to Disneyland — we’re talking about Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway). Construction for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is underway, while a brand new Tiana-themed restaurant has opened. We also have seen Paradise Pier Hotel begin to morph into Pixar Place Hotel, and now a brand new cafe has opened there! So, the Pixar Place Hotel officially opens on January 30th, 2024, but as work has progressed on it, some of its features are already open and available. That includes The Sketch Pad Cafe, which is now showing operating hours on the Disneyland website. Y’all — that means it’s officially OPEN! ©Disney So what will you be able to get at the cafe? Well, for starters, COFFEE, which is the most important meal of the day (at least it is to us). However, you’ll also be able to get breakfast pastries like croissants, bagels, muffins, and breads from Röckenwagner Bakery, which is a well-known bakery in L.A. Other food options include a Mini Frittata, Avocado Toast, and a Pizza Bagel. In addition to coffee, you can also order espressos, teas, and juices. The Sketch Pad Cafe The cafe also has a Balance Box with garlic hummus, pita bread, veggies, and a hard-boiled egg for a quick meal. There’s even an Adult Snackable with meat, cheese, and crackers. Plus, you can grab a yogurt parfait, overnight oats, fresh fruit cup, and string cheese, along with packaged sandwiches and salads. Hours are currently posted daily from 6AM to 11AM. Note that Great Maple, Pixar Place Hotel’s table service restaurant, is also open — you can read our review here. Great Maple Stay tuned to DFB for more! 17. We don’t know about you, but we are SO excited about the new ride coming to Magic Kingdom. Mural at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Yep, we’re talking about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which will be a brand-new ride built over the bones of the old Splash Mountain attraction in both Disney World and Disneyland. We’ve been following all the updates regarding the ride and keeping an eye on construction, and today, we spotted something NEW at the ride in Disney World. This update is for YOU, Mama Odie fans. So we had to SQUINT to see these new details, but we got a photo of the spot on the ride just before the drop (if you remember where that was from the old Splash Mountain). And we spotted some colorful NEW lanterns. Do you see the lanterns? Here’s a close-up shot of them. Lanterns! Although we can only see a few bottles right now, the ride model Disney shared way back in 2022 shows what this will eventually look like — all those glowing lanterns will be hanging above the area right before the big drop. THE BIG DROP — Attraction Model So, why are we excited about these lanterns? Well, these are Mama Odie’s lanterns! We’ve seen some concept art of how Mama Odie will appear in the ride. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney According to Disney, this scene is where Mama Odie is joking with guests after showing off her magic. “The two-hundred-year-old Bayou Fairy Godmother, with her eccentric belongings and ‘seeing eye snake,’ Juju, is comically eccentric, yet wise and all-knowing, throughout the adventure.” Yes, Jennifer Lewis, who voiced Mama Odie in The Princess and the Frog, is reprising her role for the ride. ©Disney As you can see in both pieces of concept art, Mama Odie has lots of multicolored lanterns hanging over her. So it looks like the ride’s big drop could be part of Mama Odie showing off her magic? Or maybe we need to “dig a little deeper” to discover what this part of the ride is about? Of course, we won’t know for sure until Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens later this year. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates, though, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 18. It’s not uncommon to see Disney World rides close every now and then for refurbishment. Space Mountain Closed Sometimes the closures are short, only a week or so, and other times they need MAJOR work and are closed for months at a time (we’re looking at you Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster). If you’re heading into Magic Kingdom this upcoming week, you need to know about this ride closure! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, one of the most popular rides in the park, will be closing for a temporary closure starting TOMORROW, January 16th. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The closure will last through January 20th (expected to reopen for normal operating hours January 21st) and is for routine maintenance on the ride. Big Thunder Mountain This refurbishment is actually a great thing, because it means Disney is keeping the ride in the best condition it can be to continue to run smoothly for guests. It also ensures the ride continues to stay safe for guests. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad So what does this mean for your visit in the park? Well, you won’t be able to ride Big Thunder, which is a bit of a bummer, but you’ll also want to prepare for other wait times in the park to rise, especially other roller coasters in the park like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain. The Antechamber features villainous royalty from Disney films, including King Candy from Wreck-it-Ralph, King Magnifico from Wish, and The Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. ©Disney A unique and special addition to the restaurant is the Carousel room, named such due to the room’s Carousel-like shape and trusty steeds that adorn the walls. This room pays tribute to all of the sidekicks, horse or otherwise, of famous Disney heroes, including Frozen’s Sven, Mulan’s horse Khan, and even Aladdin’s friend Abu! ©Disney This restaurant is a welcome addition to the Disneyland Hotel in Disneyland Paris and will open its doors when the hotel reopens on January 25th. 21. The Disney Dining Plan has returned to Disney World and we’re here for the snacks! mmm…snacks! You can now purchase and use the Dining Plan all around Disney World. Many locations will accept your snack and meal credits (just watch for the DDP symbol on the menu or Mobile Order!). Since we practically worship Disney food, we’re so excited to have this plan back. However, as we’ve been wandering the parks and getting all the Dining Plan details, we have stumbled upon what some might consider — SNACK SCANDALS! (Disney — WHYYY?!) Let’s break the new Dining Plan down a bit first. There are two plan options — the Quick Service Dining Plan and the Standard Disney Dining Plan The Quick Service Dining Plan is the cheaper of the two but you do not get any table service meal credits. This means you are limited to eating at only counter service type locations, which can be perfect if you’re family is constantly on the go. Whereas, the Standard Disney Dining Plan gives you one Table Service and one Quick Service meal credit per day you purchase the plan. Both plans come with one snack credit per day. And here is where we begin our snack scandal rant. Watch for the snack credit symbol around the parks Ok, it might be a bit of a stretch to use the word “scandal” but we were a bit crushed when we learned about these snack credits. Is Disney was being a bit too sneaky for its own good? We’ll let you be the judge. If you’re headed to the 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Arts, be on the lookout for two of these three snack credit fiascos. YUM! The France Whiteout Scandal We headed to the Festival of the Arts in EPCOT on opening day. We were having a grand time enjoying all the entertainment, merchandise, and food when we came across the menu at the France booth, L’Art de la Cuisine Francaise. L’Art de la Cuisine Francaise Menu If we zoom in, you can see lots of items at this booth have the DDP symbol, meaning you can use a snack credit to purchase meals and beverages. But we noticed that one item, the Duo de Saumon Hot and Cold had WHITE OUT over the snack symbol!! Peep the whiteout over the DDP symbol for the Duo de Saumon Hot and Cold! A last-minute decision or mistake must have warranted this change in plans. You could not use a snack credit to purchase this $14.75 snack. However, the $9.95 Créme de Brie en Petit Pain (the second highest-priced item on the menu) was still available for the DDP. We get it, not everything can be a snack credit (no matter how much we wish they could), but using whiteout to cover the symbol on something that used to be DDP eligible seemed a little shady. The Poutine Scandal On January 9th, the day the Disney Dining Plan came back to the parks, we were in EPCOT grabbing some poutine at the Refreshment Port. Refreshment Port We wanted to confirm that the poutine was still a snack credit, as it had been with the old Dining Plan before it was removed. The Cast Member there confirmed that it was (thank, goodness!!), BUT they mentioned that when the Festival of Arts started, a non-traditional poutine would not count for the Dining Plan! Refreshment Port 2024 Festival of the Arts Menu When the festival started, a specialty poutine, Gnocchi Poutine, was added to the menu. But Gnocchi Poutine is not eligible for the Dining Plan like the Traditional Poutine. You can see the DDP symbol next to the Traditional Poutine but it is not there for the Gnocchi Poutine. This was a big surprise to us! Gnocchi Poutine The Gnocchi Poutine costs $10 whereas the Traditional Poutine is only $7.50, but $10 is not too high for a snack credit (we found the highest-priced snack credit at the festival was $12). This difference was a little odd to us. Aloha Isle Refreshments This next snack credit debacle is not secluded to just Aloha Isle Refreshments, but it is an excellent example of it. Aloha Isle Refreshments We have seen that many items that used to be included as a snack credit are no longer eligible. This is particularly the case with higher-priced items. For example, at Aloha Isle, the Pineapple Upside Down Cake with DOLE While (which is $6.99) used to be a snack credit — now, it is no longer eligible. Pineapple Upside-Down Cake with DOLE Whip The Tropical Serenade, which wasn’t on the menu during the days of the previous Dining Plan, isn’t part of the Dining Plan now, but its counterpart at the time, the Kakamora Float, was. The Tropical Serenade is $7.99 and is basically just a Coconut DOLE Whip Float (just different flavors) with a cake pop — which is a snack credit. Tropical Serenade These snacks aren’t even that expensive when they are compared to the $12 snack at the Festival of the Arts that qualifies, so we don’t really understand why they aren’t accepted. $12 Festival of the Arts snack credit eligible Funnel Cake Sandwich The moral of the story is, that when you’re searching for a snack to use your Dining Plan credits, make sure you’re paying close attention to those little symbols! If you don’t want to pay out of pocket, be sure to only order something that has the DDP symbol next to its name. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! Sure, y’all have your Stanley cups out there outside of Disney World, but INSIDE Disney World, it’s still all about those Starbucks tumblers (and, yes, we love them, too). 24. Disneyland just rolled out some colorful NEW name tags for Cast Members! ©Disneyland Disneyland has seen so many changes recently, like San Fransokyo Square, a potential new Avengers ride, and hotel rethemes. As much as we love all the fun new theme park changes we’ve seen lately, it’s Disneyland Cast Members’ turn for something NEW. Disneyland has debuted some new and colorfully whimsical name tags for Cast Members! Let’s take a look. The name tags perfectly encapsulate 69 years of magic-making for Disneyland. Sprinkled with pixie dust and decorated with colorful Disneyland icons, these name tags celebrate the creativity and wonder that Disneyland is known for while also celebrating the Cast Members responsible for making it happen. ©Disney The name tags are heavily influenced by the DisneylandForward initiative, taking the core creative vision of The Happiest Place on Earth and using it to represent the initiative’s optimism for the future! Under the DisneylandForward vision, The Walt Disney Company hopes to “meaningfully invest in Anaheim for years to come and meet the future demands in entertainment.” We can’t wait to see how Disney’s vision will come to life in the future! Disneyland The name tags are just the beginning of more new additions coming to Disneyland, and we are so excited to experience them!
