There are SO many little secrets and hidden details at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom that it would take us DAYS to go through them all. Magic Kingdom For example, did you know a StarCruiser flies overhead at the end of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin? Or have you ever looked up at the windows on Main Street, U.S.A. to see the tributes to various Disney Imagineers? Plus, there are hidden Mickeys EVERYWHERE. Do you stay to see the “Kiss Goodnight” in Magic Kingdom each evening you’re there? Well, we just found another little secret detail we have SO many questions about. Okay, so you probably recognize this view of Cinderella Castle. It’s a GREAT spot to get photos of the Castle (yes, we have TONS from this angle.) But do you see what we see? Do you see it? There on the right…there’s something…what is that? There’s something there? It’s a tiny door! Wait…is that a…door? Let’s get a closer look. It’s a secret little door that happens to be near the Cinderella Wishing Well. We can’t help but imagine something out of Alice in Wonderland, but it’s tough to say what it’s ACTUALLY there for. WE WANNA KNOW, Disney! All we know is that it looks big enough for one of Snow White’s dwarf friends to fit through. Did we just stumble upon their secret lair? What is it for?!?!?!?! Oh, and get this: it’s actually the second little door that we’ve seen in Magic Kingdom. If we had a nickel for every time we found a tiny door in Magic Kingdom, we’d only have two nickels, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right? It’s got a little doorknob and everything! There’s also one on the exterior of Bonjour! Village Gifts in Fantasyland. It’s believed that this door exists due to an error made when New Fantasyland was constructed, but that may just be a bit of Magic Kingdom Cast Member lore. As you may notice, though, the round manhole and plumbing underneath would have been covered up by the wall of the store had it been built in a straight line. So the story goes that Imagineers just made a tiny door to blend into the wall and allow for the wall to bypass the manhole. Little door on Bonjour Village Gifts So, could the other little door by Cinderella Castle have a similar story? Does it serve some utilitarian purpose? Is it for storage? We may never know for sure, but we’re intrigued. We’ll let you know if we find out any more about this secret door! Stay tuned to DFB for more and watch our video below for more Magic Kingdom news! Disney popcorn buckets are a big deal. They’re not only a fun Disney souvenir, but they also make for a super handy popcorn container! Now that’s a win-win. Popcorn buckets! We’ve been obsessed with the past few popcorn buckets that Disney released, including the new Figment Popcorn Bucket, the Musical Tin Holiday Popcorn Bucket, and the Nightmare Before Christmas Mayor’s Car Popcorn Bucket. Well, a new popcorn bucket has arrived on the scene, and you’ll want to get your hands on it QUICKLY! Okay, so we knew this popcorn bucket was on its way because Disney previously announced it was coming on Instagram. But we were excited to finally see it out in the wild in Disneyland at a popcorn cart. Say hello to the Polka Dot Valentine Mickey-shaped Balloon Bucket. This pink popcorn bucket is SO cute (don’t worry — the raindrops are NOT included in your purchase). New popcorn bucket alert! This pretty popcorn bucket has an adorable shiny graphic of Mickey and Minnie, complete with an adorable heart hands pose. It also has Minnie Mouse’s signature polka dots all over it. CUUUUTE. Aren’t they PRECIOUS? The strap has a classic Valentine’s Day pattern with loads of hearts. It’s Valentine’s Day, DUH! There’s a LOT of love in this popcorn bucket. All you Valentine’s Day cynics, step aside. This bucket is for lovers. (And yes, Disney love counts.) THE popcorn bucket to have right now We found it in Disneyland for $18.75, and it should be available at the following locations (as long as it’s still in stock, anyway): Disney California Adventure: Popcorn cart near Carthay Circle Restaurant, Popcorn cart at Grizzly Peak Airfield, Popcorn cart at Pixar Pier Disneyland: Popcorn cart near Central Plaza, Popcorn cart at “it’s a small world” Promenade, Popcorn cart near Fantasyland Theatre, Popcorn cart near Star Trader, Popcorn cart near Mark Twain Riverboat, Popcorn cart near Haunted Mansion If you want to get your hands on this popcorn bucket, we suggest you get to Disneyland pretty quickly because we have a feeling it’s going to be POPULAR. In fact, during our recent visit to Disneyland, we watched the full stock of buckets disappear as we waited in line. Luckily, Cast Members were able to restock the buckets by the time we got to the front of the line. But keep in mind that they may sell out for good eventually! Stay tuned to DFB for more! You don’t have to look very hard to see what we love about Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs. Gideon’s Bakehouse While we’re always excited to see what new offerings they come up with, help celebrate their big milestones at Disney World, and occasionally snag a special menu item (or two), not everything is as perfect as we would like it to be. If we could have things our way, there are a few changes we’d opt to make to Gideon’s Bakehouse that we think would make a lot of sense! Ok, our first gripe with Gideon’s Bakehouse has to do with a newly returned offering to Disney World. Since the Disney Dining Plan’s epic return, people have been really looking for the best values to spend their snack entitlements in the parks and while visiting Disney Springs. Inside Gideon’s Bakehouse While lots of locations around Disney Springs accept the Disney Dining Plan snack credits, Gideon’s Bakehouse, sadly, isn’t a participating location. This means that if you’re hoping to spend all those prepaid credits to pick up a few of their delicious fresh-baked cookies, you’ll need to start making plans to spend them elsewhere. I mean, we can’t blame you, we’d totally be doing the same thing if these were eligible! A generous portion Since Gideon’s Bakehouse isn’t compatible with the Disney Dining Plan in any capacity currently, you’ll need to plan to pay for the items you’re snagging here. Here’s to hoping that they may opt to participate in the future, but as it stands right now we’re simply left to budget for our cookie haul for the time being. Speaking of a cookie haul, this brings up another good point — transportation. Currently, Gideon’s Bakehouse doesn’t offer any shipping options on any of their goodies. Gideon’s Bakehouse Holiday Krampus Cake Slice While we can certainly understand there would be some cost and probably a few logistical things behind the scenes to make this possible, it’s simply a dream at this point. Gideon’s new owner is extremely committed to quality — as is evident by his products — and he has shared before that he has no plans for his bakery to try to meet national demand. If you’re looking for a way to avoid those notoriously long lines for these tasty morsels, we don’t have any alternate options to offer you. Gideon’s Bakehouse cookies and cold brew In short, the only way you can get your hands on their delicious cookies, cakes, and sweet treats is to swing by their store in person, place your order, and pick them up all on your own. But don’t forget that there IS another location (the original location, actually) in Orlando, at the East End Market food hall. Waits there are a fraction of what they are at Disney Springs — in fact, we’ve walked right up to the counter with no wait at all occasionally! Read this for more details on the East End Market Gideon’s! Krampus cookie at Gideon’s Bakehouse We think these two changes could make a huge impact on how we’re able to enjoy picking up treats from Gideon’s Bakehouse and we’re not ready to give up hope just yet that either is out of the running. Only time will tell though at this point as we dream. Be sure to check back in with us at Disney Food Blog for the latest in menu updates, changes, and more from Disney World! Okay, is it just us, or are TV shows getting canceled left and right? Disney’s Hollywood Studios We’ve seen Disney cancel shows that never even made it to air. We’ve seen ABC drop several shows, including long-running ones. A popular show on Apple TV+ just recently got canceled. But now we need to talk about one streaming subscription service that canceled a TON of shows in the past year. That streamer is MAX, which has canceled a total of 12 shows over the past year. The platform, which was previously known as HBO Max, has been through a bit of an overhaul since Warner Media merged with Discovery, creating Warner Bros. Discovery. Some of those changes included canceling many popular shows, including The Flight Attendant, which has officially been confirmed as canceled by The Hollywood Reporter after two seasons. ©Max The Flight Attendant starred Kaley Cuoco as a flight attendant sucked into the world of spies after waking up to find a dead man in her hotel bed. The series was based on a novel by Chris Bohjalian. The series was considered a break-out hit for HBO Max and was given a second season. Reportedly, a third season was being considered, but Cuoco, who also served as an executive producer on the series, did not wish to return to the role. ©Max Cuoco received two Emmy nominations for her role in the series. The show also received a nomination as Best Comedy after its first season. “What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime,” Cuoco said in a statement. “I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.” ©Max According to Vulture, this cancellation comes hot on the heels of three other cancellations at Max, including Julia, Rap Sh!t, and Our Flag Means Death. Over the past year, though, EW reported nine other shows were canceled at Max, too, including Avenue 5, Doom Patrol, Gossip Girl, The Other Two, Pennyworth, Sort Of, South Side, Titans, and Warrior. Are you heading to Disneyland in 2024? Haunted Mansion If so, in case you haven’t already heard, you’ll need to know that a fan-favorite Disneyland Park attraction will be closed for refurbishment — tomorrow! Haunted Mansion will close for refurbishment in Disneyland Park tomorrow, January 22nd! Tomorrow, the ride will close to make way for a new, expanded queue! Haunted Mansion Holiday So what changes will take place? Well, first there will be an expanded outdoor queue “to immerse guests in enhanced theming.” Disney shares, “Local legend suggests the manor known today as the Haunted Mansion was first built by a prosperous sea captain. To this day, the mansion’s staff faithfully maintains the happy haunting grounds. The expanded queue will tie into these stories and more, including new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota and the one-eyed cat.” ©Disney There will be gardens in this space that’ll “feature unique elements ranging from a water fountain and gazebo to themed statuary and landscaping.” Guests will also get the chance to “see a new greenhouse where the groundskeepers for the Haunted Mansion grow their plants.” Plus, Disney has shared that they’ll be taking this opportunity to “improve the accessibility of these areas which includes a new elevator exit from the Haunted Mansion for guests with disabilities.” Haunted Mansion We’ll definitely miss it while it’s closed, but we’re already getting excited to see its return! Attention, Disney fans! It’s time to listen up — we’re here to discuss one of our favorite topics: FOOD. Disneyland has had no shortage of new treats lately, and today, we’re back to cover a whole new lineup of snacks! Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding There’s a LOT happening at Disneyland Resort right now. We’ve seen some restaurant updates and reported on all the rides closed for refurbishment, but now it’s time to talk SNACKS. Disney just released a whole slew of new snacks, and we made it our mission to give them a try! Finding just the right balance of snacks, treats, or full meals during your day at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure can be tricky. When you’ve got literally hundreds of options, how do you know what foods to try and what to skip? That’s where WE come in. We set out to try five new snacks that can be found at both Disneyland parks to help you make the best dining decision before you need to decide on a hungry stomach. Let’s take a look at everything we tried! Wooo! We will begin our treat roundup with the glorious Banana Split Churro! We picked this one up at the Cozy Cone Motel for $6.79. It’s a churro cut in half that’s rolled in banana sugar with peanut butter-chocolate sauce and pineapple-strawberry drizzle, with whipped topping and a cherry. Banana Split Churro We actually really loved this churro and felt all those sweet flavors went together perfectly. Basically, imagine a banana split sundae distilled into a handful of toppings atop a churro. The banana flavor is pretty light since all the sauces cover the sugar. The flavors were pretty balanced between peanut butter, chocolate, and strawberry. We didn’t taste any strong pineapple here, but some bites hinted at that tart pineapple taste. The whipped cream added some additional sweetness to the middle of the churro. Delicious! We think you’d enjoy this one if you’re someone who loves sweet and chocolatey treats (bonus points if you’re also a churro fan already!) However, if you lean more to the side of someone who just isn’t into chocolate or peanut butter, you probably wouldn’t be as jazzed to try it out. Then it was time to move on to San Fransokyo Square to try out the Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding. We picked this treat up from Aunt Cass Cafe for $7.29. It’s made of pineapple chunks, cherries, pineapple custard, caramel creme anglaise, and pineapple-flavored whipped topping. Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding The bread pudding itself was warm and soft with a rich caramel flavor, but the pineapple whipped cream was our favorite part of this one. It was a bit of a sweet vanilla flavor mixed with pineapple. The caramel creme anglaise added a rich caramel flavor that got soaked up into the bottom of the cake. It surprised us that this wasn’t really tart at all (it was mostly sweet!). Can you spot all the pineapple in this snack? You’ll need to be a big pineapple fan to enjoy this one because that’s going to be the majority of the flavor here, so if that’s not you, this probably isn’t a treat you’ll be itching to try. Our hunt for another sweet street took us over to Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream for the Butter Cake. This one is made of a cake topped with strawberries and whipped cream for $6.99. Butter Cake While we were initially excited to try this one, it was a bit of a letdown. The strawberries were fresh and full of flavor, and the whipped cream had a light texture and sweet vanilla flavor, but then we discovered that the cake itself wasn’t that good. The cake wasn’t warm or soft. The flavor was kind of bland (not buttery like we had hoped) and just a little on the sweet side. When tasting this one, the main flavors were whipped cream and strawberries. A swing and a miss for us The cake here just didn’t do it for us or seem to have much flavor. If you’re looking for a rich dessert that’s not all about the toppings, this won’t be the treat for you. It’s probably not worth the money or your time when so many BETTER Disneyland treats exist. Last but certainly not least, our visit to Disneyland took us out to Hungry Bear Restaurant. Here, we tried the Cranberry Lemonade and the Churro Funnel Cake. Churro Funnel Cake and Cranberry Lemonade Let’s talk about the Churro Funnel Cake first! This one cost us $11.99 and is made of cinnamon sugar, caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream (in the shape of a hidden Mickey), and whipped topping. This looks yummy! This snack was one of the BEST we’ve had here recently. We liked that this snack stuck to being just a fairly simple treat relying on just the cinnamon funnel cake, vanilla, and caramel. There’s not a whole lot going on, but it has everything it needs. No need for any weird extras or seemingly random toppings. The warm funnel cake had a hint of cinnamon and balanced the cold, sweet, and somewhat rich vanilla ice cream. All those classic flavors were mixed with a rich caramel topping and made for a PERFECT treat. Sometimes, it’s best to just keep it simple, right? A clear winner in our book! To wash it down, we also tried out the Cranberry Lemonade. This drink cost us $6.49 and is made of cranberry lemonade served with lemon juice popping spheres (sounds kind of tart, right?) Cranberry Lemonade If you were thinking that, too, we’re pleased to report that the flavor for this one was pretty balanced between the cranberry and lemonade. It was sweet, and we only detected a tad bit of tartness here. (Shocking, but true!) The popping spheres pretty much tasted like lemonade when they burst. Overall, this was a refreshing and somewhat sour drink with a sweet berry flavor. It was a mix of sweet and tart This one is still going to lean towards a true lemonade flavor with that mix of sweet and sour, so if you’re not totally giddy about your lips puckering a bit when you take a drink, this might not be the one for you. On the flip side, though, if you enjoy a little tart side to your lemonade drinks, we think this could totally be a winner with you! We enjoyed pretty much everything we picked up, and we would make another round for most of it again. Need a break from reading? Check out our video below for MORE Disneyland food recommendations. So, we all know that the weather in Disney World is notoriously finicky. Elsa likes it cold, even in Florida If we’re talking weird weather in Florida, we usually hear about those random rainstorms that pop up in the middle of a perfectly sunny day or the heat (and y’all, it can get SO HOT in Florida). But you don’t hear much about cold weather in Florida, but believe it or not, it can get cold! If you live somewhere outside of Florida, you might have a hard time feeling any sympathy for the folks in Florida (in fact, some of the DFB team lives in places where the high is forecasted to be between 19-22 degrees). But we do have to admit that when it’s cold in Disney World, it really does feel COLD. So it’s currently 58 degrees in Disney World, but that temperature is dropping into the 40s. Many people may think the most popular ride in Disney World is over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios…but they’d be mistaken! Animal Kingdom It makes sense — Hollywood Studios is full of popular rides with very long wait times. However, the culprit for the longest wait time is hiding over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It’s Flight of Passage in Pandora — The World of Avatar, but now we’ve got a good update to share. The wait times have been rough during the holiday season as expected, but now that that’s over, we’re seeing a much-needed decrease in those wait times. For example, Flight of Passage wait times have decreased by 53% over the past couple of weeks! The average wait time was 170 minutes two weeks ago, but now that has dropped significantly. Pandora Below, we will show you the average wait times from every attraction in Disney World over the past week. Magic Kingdom Starting in Magic Kingdom, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train had the longest average wait time of 71 minutes. Last week, the average wait time was 80 minutes, so the average has decreased since then. Haunted Mansion Next, Peter Pan’s Flight averaged 58 minutes, Space Mountain averaged 52 minutes, Jungle Cruise averaged 42 minutes, Haunted Mansion at 37 minutes, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad averaged 36 minutes. Average wait times held Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at 31 minutes, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Enchanted Tales with Belle at 28 minutes, Astro Orbiter at 27 minutes, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean at 24 minutes. Jungle Cruise After that, “it’s a small world” averaged 18 minutes, Barnstormer featuring the Great Goofini averaged 17 minutes, Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Magic Carpets of Aladdin averaged 15 minutes, Mickey’s PhilharMagic averaged 14 minutes, Tomorrowland Speedway averaged 13 minutes, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover averaged 11 minutes, and Mad Tea Party averaged 10 minutes. Mad Tea Party Prince Charming Regal Carrousel averaged 8 minutes, Enchanted Tiki Room averaged 11 minutes, and other attractions like Hall of Presidents, Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, Carousel of Progress, and Liberty Square Riverboat all tied at 5-minute average wait times. Hall of Presidents The Country Bear Jamboree averaged a 15-minute wait, and Tom Sawyer Island was a walk-on this week. Magic Kingdom Temporarily Closes Restrooms Due to Ride Construction EPCOT Heading over to EPCOT, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure took the top spot for the highest average wait time with 73 minutes, which went down from last week’s 80-minute average. Then, Frozen Ever After had an average wait time of 69 minutes. This is a slight increase from last week’s 67-minute average. EPCOT Test Track had a 57-minute average wait time this week. Next up is Soarin’ at 38 minutes, Mission: SPACE at 20 minutes, Spaceship Earth and Turtle Talk with Crush at 15 minutes, Journey into Imagination at 10 minutes, The Seas with Nemo and Friends and Living with the Land at 9 minutes, and Gran Fiesta Tour at 8 minutes. EPCOT Awesome Planet, Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, Impressions de France, and Reflections of China had no wait times this week. The EXCLUSIVE Souvenirs We’re BEGGING Disney To Bring to EPCOT Hollywood Studios Slinky Dog Dash decreased this week from a 96-minute average to an 88-minute average. Rise of the Resistance is next in this park with 94 minutes, up a bit from 86 minutes last week. Note: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is currently closed due to its months-long closure that began on January 8th. Rise of the Resistance Other wait times in the park decreased this week, including Tower of Terror at 62 minutes, Toy Story Mania at 59 minutes, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at 55 minutes, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at 51 minutes. Tower of Terror After that, Alien Swirling Saucers averaged 29 minutes, Star Tours — The Adventure Continues averaged 12 minutes, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy averaged 12 minutes, Muppet*Vision 3D averaged 10 minutes, and Walt Disney Presents averaged 8 minutes. The FRUSTRATING and Unpredictable Problem We Ran Into at the After Hours Event in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Animal Kingdom Now, let’s head over to Animal Kingdom! After reaching a 96-minute average last week, Avatar Flight of Passage went up a little bit to a 98-minute average this week. Na’vi River Journey Following that, Na’vi River Journey at 59 minutes, Expedition Everest at 32 minutes, Kilimanjaro Safaris at 30 minutes, and DINOSAUR at 21 minutes. Disney popcorn. It’s an iconic snack for good reason. Popcorn! Not only is it one of the first things you smell when you enter a Disney Park, but it also comes in a variety of flavors throughout the resort, from the fun mixes at Kat Saka’s Kettle in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to those special blends you can buy in the Magic Kingdom to take home. But we bet there’s something you don’t know about that popcorn. Believe it or not, many of Disney’s popcorn flavors are often made in collaboration with a local Florida Business called Popcorn Junkie. This family-run business owned by Neal and Minetta Crosier became the gourmet popcorn supplier for Disney World in 2018. You’ll find Popcorn Junkie flavors ACROSS Disney Parks as well as on Disney Cruise Line. ©Disney Popcorn Junkie, which has grown from two to nine employees, continues to introduce new popcorn offerings in Disney World, including the new Strawberry Crunch popcorn you can get for a limited time at Main Street Confectionery in Magic Kingdom. In fact, you can also get that delicious Strawberry Popcorn in the Sweetheart’s Mix at Main Street Confectionery (read our review here). Sweethearts Mix Popcorn from Main Street Confectionery Other Popcorn Junkie flavors you need to try in Disney World include: Better Butter, Crispy Caramel, and Cheesy Cheddar at Magic Kingdom Fruity Mix at EPCOT Special seasonal flavors across the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs Rainbow Popcorn So the next time you try a new popcorn flavor in Disney World, be sure to silently thank Popcorn Junkie for coming up with that wonderful concoction! Disney World is changing in some MAJOR ways. Cinderella Castle Magic Kingdom is seeing some huge updates, especially — we’ve been keeping up with all of the construction progress on the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure transformation, but that’s not all! Last year, Disney announced that another iconic Magic Kingdom attraction would be getting an update, and that time has almost come. Country Bear Jamboree is changing in a huge way in Magic Kingdom! Disney Imagineers are updating the show with “an all-new act.” The bears are going to be singing Disney songs in NEW styles, like pop-country, rockabilly, and bluegrass! Country Bear Jamboree The show will close on January 27th, 2024, for refurbishment, and it’ll reopen with the updated show THIS SUMMER, 2024. Closed Disney has shared that the new show is inspired by the Opry-style shows of Nashville, Tennessee. They even brought Nashville musicians in to help out with the arrangements! One of the songs we know we’ll see is a new version of “Bare Necessities” in a rockabilly style. The new show will include easter eggs throughout that nod to the previous show. ©Disney Are you planning a 2024 Disney World trip? Talk to our friends over at Small World Vacations! Some BIG things are happening in Disneyland. Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland We’re not just talking about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is currently under construction. We’re not referring to the update Disneyland has planned for its park entrances. We’re not even talking about the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival. You might recall us mentioning the DisneylandForward proposal last year, which is an initiative to work with the City of Anaheim to expand the theme parks. Well, an important meeting is coming up on that very topic! DisneylandForward is a collaborative effort between Disney and Anaheim to expand Disneyland Resort. Plans include updating existing theme park blueprints as well as boosting the local economy through new projects. The plans remain within Disney’s existing property (since it is in the middle of a city), but the idea is to change the zoning laws for certain areas of the park to build new lands, attractions, and more. DisneylandForward concept art ©Disney Some of the ideas that have been suggested for the project include things like World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland, as well as the new Zootopia land that just opened at Shanghai Disney Resort. DisneylandForward recently submitted an environmental impact study for four planning districts within the existing space of Disneyland in Anaheim. World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland In Disney’s environmental impact study, the company revealed that the project goal for DisneylandForward is to “enhance the Disneyland Resort Specific Plan area by providing a wider range of attractions, hotel accommodations, restaurants, shopping opportunities, and public parking.” Here’s a look at a proposed idea to expand Disneyland Resort. DisneylandForward Expansion Map 1©Disney Well, a HUGE meeting about DisneylandForward is coming up soon. A City Council Workshop to discuss DisneylandForward is happening on January 23rd at 3PM PST at Anaheim City Hall. Now, we don’t know what will be discussed at the meeting, but we should get a good update on how Disneyland and Anaheim plan to move forward with the theme park expansion. ©City of Anaheim If the project gets approved, new additions could be constructed in the areas of the resort that Disney deemed “underdeveloped.” This may include the space surrounding some of the Disneyland Resort hotels west of the parks and a parking lot on the east side. We can’t wait to learn more! More about DisneylandForward ©Disney If you can’t make it to the meeting on January 23rd, though, you can live stream it online at Anaheim.net/TV. We’ll certainly keep our eyes out to see what kind of plans Disneyland has been working on. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll get some ideas of what kind of lands and attractions might be coming to the parks in the future. We’ll be on the lookout for more Disneyland news, especially concerning its expansion, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 15 NEW Reasons Why Disneyland’s Restaurants Are Just Plain BETTER Want to Learn More About Disneyland? Hey, vacation is for indulging in things you normally wouldn’t be able to have at home! Indulge away! Yes, that includes Disney World vacations. We always say that traditional rules don’t matter while you’re in the Disney Parks, and it’s totally acceptable to eat dessert as a meal. If you have a serious sweet tooth, and you’re always one the hunt for your next treat while you’re in the parks, then this post is for you. We tried three desserts at Disney World this week that are NECESSITIES on your must-try list for your next trip. Let’s go! Valentine’s Day Popcorn Mix This one is only available for a limited time because it’s for Valentine’s Day, but if you find yourself in Magic Kingdom between now and then, do yourself a favor and head to the Main Street Confectionery for a bowl of the Sweetheart Popcorn mix. It’s amazing This Valentine’s Day-inspired treat consists of strawberry-flavored candy popcorn, M&Ms, crushed chocolate cookies, mini marshmallows, dark chocolate drizzle, and a white chocolate drizzle — all for $13.99. It’s messy, though! This treat is so sweet that we could only have a few bites of it at a time, but it sure is delicious. Click here to see what else is new in Magic Kingdom Two Words: Skittles. Cake. Okay. Disney World has this obsession with putting Skittles on dessert, but this time, it totally WORKS. Also at the Main Street Confectionery, you can currently find the Skittles Strawberry Lemon Bundt Cake, which is made with a strawberry filling and is topped with strawberry buttercream frosting and crushed freeze-dried SKITTLES® Original Bite Size Candies. This dessert gets two thumbs up from us! For $5.99, you can get this delicious, filling, sweet tooth-kicking, simultaneously tart and sweet treat. If you like Nothing Bundt Cakes, you’ll like this. The Skittles add a fun but subtle texture to the top that totally works. Trust us. S’MORESZA. That’s what I’m choosing to call this S’mores Dessert Pizza that we found at Terra Treats for $6.49 This is a typical pizza dough with browned butter and brown sugar baked into it, topped with crumbled graham crackers, toasted marshmallows and chocolate sauce. If you’re not drooling yet, I’m not sure if we can still be friends. S’mores Dessert Pizza If you don’t typically like Disney World pizza, we don’t blame you, but rest assured that this is different. It’s so good. The crust is perfectly chewy, the butter and brown sugar work well with the chocolate drizzle and graham crackers, and you can simply never go wrong with ooey gooey marshmallows. The only thing that could make this better is some cream cheese frosting to dip it in. Click here to see what else is new at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Whew! Who else is super hungry now? Disney World is all about celebrating special occasions, especially anniversaries. Gideon’s Bakehouse It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago when we were celebrating Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Then we celebrated the anniversary of The Walt Disney Company, which has been around for 100 years. We celebrated Animal Kingdom’s 25th birthday last year. But another BIG anniversary is happening TODAY (January 20th) in Disney World. Gideon’s Bakehouse, one of Disney World’s most POPULAR snack spots that we talk about A LOT, is celebrating its third year in Disney Springs! So how BIG is this anniversary? Well, let’s just say that people are so excited that there was a MASSIVE line when we arrived at Gideon’s Bakehouse this morning. It extended WELL beyond the Gideon’s Building and past Morimoto Asia. The line this morning So, just how long was that line? Well, we waited in that line, and it took us over TWO HOURS from first getting in line (before the bakery even opened) to making our purchase. We later learned that the end of the line got up to a 4.5-hour wait. When we got in line, the virtual queue wasn’t available yet, but it did open up later that morning, although there was a line to join that, too. Virtual queue line Time to eat! We grabbed the Maple Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookie, which is the special Gideon’s cookie for January. It’s a Chocolate Chip Cookie mixed with Maple Syrup and housemade Candied Walnuts with Cinnamon Nutmeg Sugar sprinkled on top. Maple Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookie This was a JOURNEY. We started by smelling this cookie while standing in line outside the building. That sweet, mapley scent wafted out the doors and into our hearts pretty quickly. By the time we (finally) got to bite into it, we were drooling. YES! This cookie also has tons of walnuts, chocolate chips, and gooey maple syrup to hold it all together, and those flavors seriously work together PERFECTLY. What more can a cookie lover ask for in a cookie? Also, everyone who purchases a treat from Gideon’s today gets a free button celebrating the shop’s third anniversary! It was a GOOD day at Gideon’s Bakehouse. (We even heard some lucky fans got to meet the man behind Gideon’s Bakehouse himself!) FREE pin! Whew — that is a lot of sweets, but y’all, we have ZERO regrets. Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. Walt Disney Company Headquarters ©LA Times Now, TV show cancelations are normal, but is it just us, or does it seem like we’ve seen a lot more over the past year? The Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon has been canceled after just two seasons. Cinco Paul, the show’s co-creator, shared the news on Instagram: “I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with Season 3 of Schmigadoon!” he wrote. “The season is written (including 25 new songs) but we unfortunately won’t be making it. Such is life. I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast and crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal and Apple, for everything they did to make it happen. It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did.” ©Apple Schmigadoon featured a cast of celebrities, including Keegan-Michael Key, Cecily Strong, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Aaron Tveit, Tituss Burgess, Patrick Page, and Martin Short. ©Apple The show follows two New York doctors who go on a backpacking trip and end up in Schmigadoon, a lost town straight out of a 1950s musical. ©Apple Yep, the show was a musical, which meant it had a bit of a cult following. It was also nominated for several Emmy awards and won one. That said, the show’s audience and Emmy award weren’t enough for Apple TV+ to renew it for a third season, though. Here’s the full statement from Paul: ©Cinco Paul via Instagram Interestingly, it seems the third season is already written, so perhaps the series might live on somewhere else. Maybe another streaming service will pick it up; in fact, it’s become common for other streaming sites to pick up canceled shows and run with them. So we’ll have to see how things play out for Schmigadoon. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Why ABC Canceled 9 Shows Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, has gone through lots of changes over the past few years, with new shows and movies, subscription price increases, and special features. Now, even MORE new things are coming SOON! ©Disney Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, has said that his number one priority is to improve Disney’s streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. He has been working on strategies to make the company’s streaming services profitable with the overarching goal of having Disney+ become profitable by the end of fiscal year 2024. To help the company achieve this goal, there are a couple of big changes coming to Disney+. We noticed several Disney+ changes in 2023, including the beta launch of combining Hulu with Disney+ and the removal of the “Groupwatch” feature. But what could be in store in the future? It may only be the beginning of 2024, but we’ve already got a pretty good idea of some upcoming features and partnerships. Gateway Shop and Shop the Stream In late 2023, Disney teased a new feature coming to Disney+, and we recently learned more about the update at the Fourth Annual Tech & Data Showcase at CES. ©Disney Developers at Disney have been working on creating shopping and gaming experiences that double as interactive ads. The project is being called “Gateway Shop” and “Shop the Stream.” Essentially, Disney wants users to be able to see a product in the show or movie they’re watching and immediately purchase it using a second screen (such as a phone or laptop if you’re streaming your show on a television). Disney+ screen Gateway Shop is supposed to allow viewers to “access personalized offers to purchase from a retailer without leaving the viewing environment.” Viewers may receive a push notification or email when a product pops up in their show, encouraging them to shop for that item online. ©Disney A beta program has already been launched for this new shopping ad format. That’s not the only update potentially coming to Disney+’s advertising format, though. Disney is also working on a project called “Disney’s Magic Words,” which utilizes new technology that “allows Disney to analyze scenes and visuals across their expansive library, to capture a mood or moment, to help advertisers personalize their messaging specifically around that emotion.” So you may soon see ads that are specifically created or chosen based on the scene in the movie you’re watching! Learn more about this Disney+ change here! Apple Vision Pro Another big change coming up is that Disney+ is part of a new product: Apple Vision Pro! This new product is coming out on February 2nd, 2024, with the whole Disney+ library available from day one. ©Apple Apple Vision Pro is Apple’s new mixed-reality headset, which blends augmented and virtual reality. When users wear the headset, they’ll be able to see virtual images overlaid on live video of the real world. So you’ll see screens projected in front of you while still being able to see what’s actually going on in real life. ©Apple You can watch Disney+ shows and movies using Apple Vision Pro, but there are also a couple of cool, immersive features coming out. The first is “Disney+ Environments,” which “magically transform users’ spaces into landscapes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.” Basically, you’ll choose an environment, and it’ll show up all around you, so you’ll feel like you’re part of that scene. ©Apple Four environments will be available when the Apple Vision Pro headsets come out: “the Disney+ Theater, inspired by the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood; the Scare Floor from Pixar’s Monsters Inc.; Marvel’s Avengers Tower overlooking downtown Manhattan; and the cockpit of Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder, facing a binary sunset on the planet Tatooine from the Star Wars galaxy.” ©Apple You can stream movies and TV shows while those environments are turned on, but keep in mind that the environments themselves don’t change to reflect the movie — they’re more for the vibes and atmosphere (so it’s not like you can be sitting in the middle of the action of the show you’re watching). The streaming part still takes place on a “screen.” ©Apple Apple Vision Pro headsets will also allow viewers to see some Disney+ movies in 3D! ©Apple Disney+ movies with the 3D option include Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Elemental, and Encanto, although more titles will be announced at a later date. Beware, not all travel tips are created equal! Spirit Airlines at Orlando Airport Over the years, we’ve learned plenty tips to simplify our traveling experience. From avoiding flights on specific dates to finding the best airport lounges, we’re constantly on the lookout for ways to make traveling easier and more comfortable. But this airport tip that recently went viral will NOT be making its way into our travel plans! It’s no secret that flying can be a headache. Between flight delays, airport crowds, and the stress of trying to make sure things run smoothly, it can make for a tough day. But even though traveling can be tough, there are some “tips” that we think go too far. Orlando Airport Recently, a LinkedIn post went viral with a travel “hack” that is likely to make you the least-popular person on your flight if you try it. The traveler who made the post claims you should always try to board in Group One, no matter what group you’re actually assigned, saying, “Board in Group 1, no matter your group. 99% of the time they don’t say anything. Worst case they tell you to wait, then you’re first when they call your actual group.” Frontier Plane at the Orlando Airport Okay, we can sum up our thoughts on this “hack” with two words — Not. Cool. The boarding process for flights can already be chaotic, and if everyone goes this route, it can cause more delays and confusion. Disregarding the proper boarding procedure makes things more difficult for both the airline staff AND your fellow travelers. Southwest at Orlando International Airport Lots of commenters on the original post also pointed out the issues with this particular piece of “advice,” with one commenter saying, “If everyone did this, wouldn’t it just be one entire long line to board rather than an organized boarding process? I think just following airline policies is a better idea than acting entitled.” Airport As frequent travelers, we totally get that flying can be a stressful experience! But be careful about what advice you take to try to make things simpler for yourself — some “tips” like this could end up landing you at the back of the line with side eye from a whole plane of your fellow travelers. The Disney World Parks have changed a lot since COVID-19 shut them down. Magic Kingdom It’s been nearly four years since the closures, yet some of the major changes put in place still remain. While things like park pass reservation requirements, park hopping restrictions, and lack of the Disney Dining Plan were removed on January 9th, 2024, there are some changes that seem like they’ll be around for a while, and our readers aren’t too happy with some of those. We asked them on Facebook to share with us what they thought the most FRUSTRATING new Disney World change has been, and the answer wasn’t at all surprising. Our readers are frustrated with Genie+. Even though it’s been around since 2021, a lot of Disney fans still aren’t over it! Plus, for folks who don’t make it to the parks a whole lot, the change is relatively new. Previously, the theme parks operated using the Fast Pass+ system, which allowed folks with a valid park ticket to make up to three Fast Passes in advance to skip the long lines at Disney World. Yep, it was included in your ticket and yep, you could do it in advance. Plus, you could even add more throughout the day. Now, Genie+ is the skip-the-line service that allows folks to use the Lightning Lane, which is the former Fast Pass line. It’s not free with your ticket, though, and it can’t be used in advance — at least for now. Here are a few problems that our readers have with it. It’s expensive. Genie+ is a paid service that is not included with your park ticket. There is a Multi-Park option, which is great if you’re park hopping, and then there are single park options if you’re only visiting one of the four parks. The problem? All of these are pretty expensive. Plus, the prices are uncapped and can surge based on demand. The Multi-Park option and Magic Kingdom option reached record-high prices over the holiday season at a whopping $39 per person. Genie+ Our readers miss the added luxury of having a skip-the-line service included in their ticket. If you’re in the same boat and are looking for ways to navigate the long lines without paying the hefty price, we recommend rope dropping, or showing up to the park as soon as it opens. The lines also tend to get shorter right before the park closes, so you can try then, too! It’s tricky to use — and time consuming. Learning to use Genie+ is definitely a learning curve, even for seasoned visitors. It’s located within the Disney World app, and it requires you to spend a lot of time on your phone. You can book two Lightning Lanes at a time, and you can’t book more unless you scan in for those Lightning Lanes or two hours pass — whichever happens first. Genie+ So, all day long, you’re kind of glued to your phone. It drains your phone battery and your patience at times. We’ve found a few hacks for the service, so check those out below! Click here for all of our best tips to make Genie+ a breeze. You can’t do it in advance. With the Fast Pass+ system, you could book your attractions way ahead of time so that you didn’t have to worry about anything on the day of your visit. Now, you’re glued to your phone all day like we mentioned. You can purchase the service as early as 12AM — midnight — on the day of your visit, but like we said, you can only book two at a time. Genie+ We don’t have much advice here other than knowing ahead of time which order you want to ride your rides in, but a lot of folks have their fingers crossed that Genie+ booking will soon be available in advance. Well, there you have it! What do you say? Are you included in our readers who wish Genie+ would go back to the lamp? TV shows get canceled all the time, but it’s never easy when it’s a show you’re really looking forward to watching. ©Disney Some shows get at least one full season before getting canceled, like Disney’s National Treasure: Edge of History. Some shows never even get a chance to get started. For example, Disney’s adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles was canceled before it ever began. The same happened with The Nautilus, which would have been the origin story for Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Even the Lizzie McGuire reboot never got a chance to get going, but now we may know why. The new Lizzie McGuire TV show was going to pick up with an adult Lizzie living in New York City as an interior designer. After she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, Lizzie moves back to California, where she reunites with animated Lizzie. In 2020, Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff shared that the reboot had been essentially canceled because there were disagreements on the show’s maturity level. Disney wanted a more kid-friendly show, while Duff felt that Lizzie’s adult story should reflect more adult topics. This has now been confirmed by one of the show’s writers. In a video posted on social media, Lizzie McGuire writer Jonathan Hurwitz told fans that two episodes had essentially already been shot, but that episode three was where Disney had some issues. At the end of the second episode, Lizzie receives a message from Ethan Craft, her childhood crush. Hilary Duff and Adam Lamberg ©Disney “Episode 3 wasn’t filmed, but there was a script for it,” Hurwitz said. “Lizzie wakes up in Ethan’s bed, in his water polo t-shirt. Animated Lizzie pops up and she has this little checklist, like a to-do list, and Ethan is on the list and she checks it off. “I think she says something like, ‘I checked that box –dramatic pause– twice.’ So if I had to guess, I saw another comment about certain storylines [about] why Disney wasn’t comfortable with it, my guess was… that moment was probably one of them.” Here are some more details Hurwitz shared about the canceled series: According to Deadline, Duff remains optimistic about the reboot. She said, “Disney+ was very new and I think they were figuring out their… and we were figuring out our… and I am optimistic.” ©Disney Disney+ has embraced more mature content, including adding the Netflix Marvel shows to its lineup, as well as recently adding its first original series, Echo, with a TV-MA rating. So who knows? Maybe Disney will change its mind and move forward with the Lizzie McGuire reboot. This is what dreams are made of, after all. ©Disney Stay tuned to DFB for more. Disney World is known as the Most Magical Place on Earth, but did you know there are ways to make it just a bit more magical? Spaceship Earth It’s true, and it’s all thanks to Disney’s special events and tours. These extras may be something you need to budget a little bit more for, but man, can they really elevate your experience. Between Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and even some of the hotels, chances are there’s something for just about everyone. And, for those with a green thumb (or those who are just really into plants and science), there’s one tour that offers you the chance to learn — all while going backstage at a popular EPCOT ride. If you love Living with the Land in EPCOT, the Behind the Seeds tour might be something you need to add to your Disney World must-do list! Make your way through the backstage areas and lush greenhouses of this unique attraction as you learn just how Disney keeps things green all year long. I recently took the Behind the Seeds tour for the first time — here’s what it was like! First, I checked in at the Land Pavilion, right next to the exit of Living with the Land. Disney recommends that you ride the Living with the Land attraction before doing the Behind the Seeds tour to enjoy a preview of what you can expect. You’ll want to arrive 15 minutes before the tour starts. Behind the Seeds Greenhouse Tour Sign in EPCOT You’ll visit four greenhouses (plus a fish farm) in The Land Pavilion during this one-hour tour, encountering insects, fish, and plants along the way. While visiting our first stop — the Pest Management lab — where we learned about how Disney controls the insects in the greenhouse (spoiler alert: it’s with other insects!), my tour group was given a walkie-talkie-type headset so we could hear our tour guide, Rachel, throughout the greenhouses. We were then ushered outside to get a view of the Tissue Culture lab. If this looks sort of familiar, that’s because you can actually see the other side of this lab from the ride itself! This is where Disney grows and studios different types of plants while they’re still young. Tissue culture lab And, then, we entered our first greenhouse! It was like seeing the world from a totally different angle. As a die-hard Living with the Land fanatic, it was so cool to see the ride and greenhouses up close and from a new perspective. Here, you can see Brussels sprouts growing with a hydroponic method. Mobile hydroponics Here, we learned about the different growing methods and soil materials Disney uses, including hydroponics, Rockwool, vertical grow systems, and more. The towers pictured below are made from recycled materials and can be used to grow a variety of plants like flowers and vegetables in a compact space. VertiGro system Check it out! There were even strawberries growing in some of the containers. How perfect does that look? Look at this strawberry! We also got to sample a type of seedless cucumber that is actually grown in the Land Pavilion! It was on the mild side and was slightly sweet and crunchy. Much of the food grown here is actually used in restaurants all around Disney World. We learned that Disney chefs will actually visit the greenhouses, requesting samples of ingredients to incorporate into their recipes throughout the parks and resorts. A cucumber grown on the ride! Disney employs quite a few different growing methods in order to be able to grow all types of plants in one environment — no matter where they originated in nature. Here, you can see more vertical growing methods being used. If you look on the left, you can see a tomato “tree” that Disney scientists created by training tomato vines to grow upward. First greenhouse We moved on to the next greenhouse, where Rachel explained that in this one, sand is used as a growing medium which actually helps with temperature control. In fact, there’s actually five feet of sand if you were to dig all the way down! The vertical growth method is still used here, but what’s interesting is that the huge winter melon canopy you see is actually only made from four small vines. Winter melon Tours are offered several times daily, typically beginning at park opening with the last tour available at 4:30PM. You can book yours on the Disney World website! Right now, tours cost between $39 and $45 per person depending on the date you book. Greenhouse two Disney also utilizes Aqua Culture in the Land Pavilion, and we got to check that area out as well. There are shrimp, tilapia, and bass in these tanks that are used to help keep things running smoothly. Wondering about the red light? It actually helps prevent algae growth and buildup in the tanks. We also got to feed some of the fish and it was quite the frenzy! Aqua Culture lab After the Aqua Culture lab, it was time for my favorite part — the tropical greenhouse! I mean, come on, can you beat that view?! The final, beautiful greenhouse! We got to get up close and personal with many of the plants in this area — being mindful to still not touch anything unless our tour guide told us we could. Here you can see a vanilla plant, which is actually a type of orchid. But, as you can see, this whole greenhouse is just full of lush foliage. Vanilla This is where the tour ends, but not before Rachel made sure she answered all of our questions — and she was extremely knowledgeable when doing so. All in all, the Behind the Seeds tour is a really remarkable experience for anyone interested in agriculture, sustainability, science, or getting to go backstage on Disney rides! It’s hard to beat that view!
