Not many things can make a Disney adult offended enough to the point of anger but when we are… look out! Cinderella Castle Sure, Disney adults can handle just about anything Disney throws our way between ride changes, seeming constant construction, and restaurants switching things up, but if you’re looking to grind a Disney adult’s gears, any of these 10 things are sure to press those buttons. As Disney adults we know not everyone who visits the parks will have the same etiquette, respect for the Cast Members and characters, and wholesome appreciation as we do for the Disney World parks but we still visit and hope for the very best. Disney’s Animal Kingdom We recently reflected on a few of the things that can really take interacting with a Disney adult from 0 to 60 the quickest way possible, and we’ve got lots of thoughts! Middle-Of-The-Walkway Stoppers Yep, that’ll do it! Just when you think you’re making great timing for your next ride, attraction, reservation, or show your plans are ultimately thwarted with a single action, or rather, inaction. Keep moving! People stopping in the middle of the walkway or path is a very common occurrence but can especially be a nuisance to someone who’s got a goal in mind. If you find that you need to stop and look around for a bit, consider stepping over to the side or gradually pull your stroll over that direction to allow others behind you to continue moving forward. Improper Names One thing we Disney adults may be blind to is that not everyone is as well versed in Disney terminology as we are, and that’s where it’s on us but it doesn’t keep it from bothering us. Spaceship Earth in EPCOT It can be super frustrating to hear phrases like “Millenial Falcon”, calling Spaceship Earth the EPCOT (golf) ball, or mixing up the character names like calling Donald Duck Daffy Duck (who’s from an entirely different franchise altogether.) Galaxy’s Edge We’ve caught ourselves doing it from time to time, but if a Disney adult catches you using a park or destination’s former name like MGM Studios in place of Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Downtown Disney instead of Disney Springs, you’ll likely be in for a talking to! That will probably be followed up with an extensive history lesson in what prompted the change so if you’re not ready for the cliff notes of certain Disney history, you’ll want to do your best to avoid getting caught doing this! Hollywood Studios We’ll probably get to a place where we can laugh about it but it doesn’t keep it from really striking a chord with us in the moment. People Judging Us (Who Obviously Aren’t As Cool) Hey, we’re no one to judge and all are welcome to become a Disney adult, but, if we hear of people we know judging us… it’s going to sting a little bit. Characters For the most part, Disney adults pride themselves on being accepting and living in the magic and nostalgia that the theme parks, movies, and merchandise bring us. If that makes us uncool or “not grown up,” then, we’re not sure it was really for us in the first place. Line Jumpers We might be super nice Disney adults, but we’re fair. Test Track lines If we see you jumping the line (especially over and over again) you’re going to get some stern looks. Again, for the most part, Disney adults don’t have issues following the rules of the parks, and line jumping is definitely one that breaks an important rule. It’s disruptive to the flow of the crowd and could injure yourself or someone else in the process. The exception we’re willing to compromise with here is the need for bathroom trips. Unsupervised Groups Of Disruptive People Remember when we talked about Disney adults being big on following the rules? Yeah, this is going to kind of go hand in hand with that. Toy Story Land crowds Don’t get us wrong, there’s no “right” way to do Disney, but, if you’re breaking rules or being loud, rude, obnoxious, or disruptive, there’s not a place for that here. You’re totally within bounds to live your life and have your fun, but when that fun becomes a bit too much and impeeds on the experience of those around you, it’s time to reevaluate your actions. There Really IS A Difference In the Park Slogans This is one of the quickest ways to get a Disney adult’s attention in the worst way possible. The Most Magical Place on Earth Disney adults know their destinations, right down to the slogans. Walt Disney World is known as “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” while Disneyland is known as “The Happiest Place on Earth.” If you’re not getting it right, we’ll probably let it slide the first time but don’t be surprised if we just can’t take it anymore and feel the need to correct you and quickly. Harry Potter Look, there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with having a deep appreciation for various fandoms. But, this one around the Disney World parks will attract some looks. Hogwarts Castle at Universal Orlando We’ve seen countless folks on vacation wearing their Universal Orlando gear or more specifically Harry Potter-themed merchandise, robes, shirts, and even ears (yes, Harry Potter-themed ears) to Disney World but it’s distracting. Hogwarts Express We can’t begin to tell you how many times we’ve either been asked or have overheard someone asking for directions to Harry Potter land within Disney World only to hear their shock, frustration, and utter disappointment to learn you won’t find any of that here and could be a contributor to why we see the confusion so often. Overhearing Wrong Or Just Plain Bad Advice While we’re on this high horse of confusion, we’ve got another gripe to air. We’re really going to be bothered by bad or just plain wrong advice. Guest Experience We understand not everyone is going to know everything there is to know bout Disney World and the parks, and if there’s something we don’t know for sure, that’s exactly what we’re going to tell you. Before you’re ready to start rolling out advice so freely around the parks, to your friends and family before your or their trips, or even trying to give directions around the park, make sure what information you’re giving is proven to be true. Guest Services At one point or another, you were probably disappointed in your own experiences, and it is super frustrating for someone to come to Disney who’s going to be reliant on the exact advice they were given only to find out that it wasn’t true. To cut down on the chaos and further confusion, it’s best if you’re not 100% absolutely positive about something that they ask the experts (and by experts, we mean guest services, guest experience stands, or calling Disney directly.) You may even save your friendship with this small step! People Not Obeying The Attraction Rules We touched on how Disney adults feel about people being disruptive before, but this one could cause some serious drama. “It’s A Small World” boats We’re begging you, please just obey the ride and attraction rules… it’s really that simple. We’re all at Disney World to have fun, meet with the characters, have a great time riding rides, and enjoy living in the moment. When you choose not to obey the ride rules it causes the Cast Members or character attendants to also disrupt everyone else’s experience to remind these folks not to stick their hands in water, move their hands, arms, feet, legs, and head outside the ride vehicle or train, and can result in something as minor as a warning, to muting the audio, or stopping the ride entirely. So do yourself and everyone around you a courtesy and just obey the rules so we can continue with our day as smoothly as possible. Of Course, We’re Going Back To Disney World… Again, Stop Asking For Disney adults, there are probably not many other places on Earth we’d rather be, and when you ask us this, it can really rain on our parade. All aboard! There’s a genuine joy we get out of being surrounded by the environment that Disney creates. If that is enough to keep us going each day, then no one should stand in the way of that. Where we choose to go on vacation is simply that — our choice. Don’t worry, we’ll consider switching it up one day! Who knows… we could get a wild idea and go to Disneyland, take a Disney Cruise Line sailing, go see “the rest of the world” the Disney way with Adventures by Disney, or even take an international trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Sea, Disneyland Paris, or even Shanghai Disneyland. Disney originally said “late 2024,” but in recent updates, they’ve removed the “late” and are just going with “2024” — does that mean it could open SOONER? We’ll be watching for more updates on the opening timeline. ©Disney Disney also just released lots of new information about this ride, including a hint that there will be Splash Mountain Easter Eggs throughout the attraction! Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. It’s completely closed in here. Once in a while, you’ll see the dining rooms open as a rest area, but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates! Some Restrooms in Magic Kingdom Have Been Temporarily CLOSED Disney’s Hollywood Studios Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed on January 8th, it won’t reopen until the summer of this year. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Although we don’t have an exact reopening date yet, we know that it’ll be at least a few months before the ride reopens. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has finally been confirmed. Still closed Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” A popular menu item has DISAPPEARED from one of our favorite restaurants in Hollywood Studios! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids Kali River Rapids usually closes in January for refurbishment since water rides like this tend to be less popular during the winter months when it’s chilly outside. In 2024, it closed on January 8th. Kali River Rapids is closed Disney has announced that Kali River Rapids will be closed through mid-March. Right now, Disney’s calendar shows that this ride should reopen on March 16th, but Disney hasn’t officially confirmed this as the reopening date. Disney’s dropped some major hints about the Animal Kingdom Encanto expansion! EPCOT Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is still closed in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when it might reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh The restaurant is kind of open right now — it’s functioning as a lounge with just a couple of drink options. However, we’re still waiting for the full restaurant to reopen! It’s sad to see a spot closed that had so much character interaction! Disney hasn’t announced a permanent closure, so there is hope for 1900 Park Fare. Recently, we’ve even heard construction going on behind those doors, so it’s possible this spot will reopen soon! With 1900 Park Fare closed…you’ll need this SECRET spot to get afternoon tea in Disney World! Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is going to be closed from January 2024 to late March 2024. Well, it’s official, a classic Disney World attraction has closed to get a revamp. Country Bear Jamboree The Country Bears held their last jamboree until they come back with a brand new act this summer, and things are already changing in Magic Kingdom now that the attraction has temporarily closed. So let’s take a look at how the attraction’s closure has affected Magic Kingdom. Well, here’s the thing: Magic Kingdom is about the same and there’s a whole lot of nothing going on over at Frontierland. Splash Mountain has been closed for a while as it becomes Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, so the only ride that’s still open in the area is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We thought maybe the Country Bear Jamboree closure might have impacted wait times, especially in Frontierland, but Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was at 45 minutes when we checked, which is about what it was the day before. ©Disney We DID notice that Frontierland is a lot more relaxed right now. Since there is only one official ride open in that land, there aren’t as many people around, and it’s become mostly a hangout spot or a way to get somewhere else in the park. The vibes in Frontierland are very chill now. Frontierland We did happen upon the Frontierland Hoedown that happens a few times a day with the characters, including the Country Bears, who are SUPPOSED to be rehearsing for a new act, but we guess they have to let off steam sometimes. Chip and Dale were also around to get in on the Hoedown fun. We wonder if we might see more of these each day now that the Jamboree is temporarily closed. Yee-haw! The Country Bear Jamboree itself is now completely roped off and locked up. All roped off We also noticed some new signs in front of the attraction that say “Bear With Us.” Get it? BEAR? Bear with us! A stage has also been set up in front of the attraction, but it’s not part of the new attraction. It’s there for a Cast Member event that’s happening later in the week. However, we loved looking at all the fun country and western details on the stage. Temporary Stage in front of Country Bear Jamboree When the attraction reopens this summer, the Country Bears will be performing some new songs, this time from the Disney catalog, with country arrangements created by actual Nashville musicians. The idea is that the new act will be like classic Nashville country performances (think Grand Ole Opry). We’ll be keeping an eye on things over there in Frontierland. Disney World has a plethora of dining options! We would argue that there is something for everybody. Rix Sports Bar & Grill If you like the fancier things in life, you can dine at places like Victoria & Alberts or Citricos. For a quick snack in the parks, head to a nearby counter-service spot like Casey’s Corner or ABC Commissary. But if you like a local pub with lots of screens and an easygoing, relaxed atmosphere, then head over to Rix Sports Bar & Grill! Rix Sports Bar & Grill is located in Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. While Coronado Springs is a little off the beaten path (it’s located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom), we ventured over to the hotel to check out this table-service bar and grill — here are our thoughts! Atmosphere Coronado Springs brings together the Spanish, Mexican, and Southwest American cultures into one gorgeous oasis. Here you’ll find a beautiful lake, a fun pool with a Mayan pyramid, and several restaurants! One such restaurant is Rix Sports Bar & Grill. Rix Sports Bar & Grill Formerly known as Rix Lounge, you’ll find a classy and airy atmosphere all around you. It’s a relaxed sports bar where you can catch a game or simply enjoy some good food and drinks. Catch a game or enjoy food and drinks! There is one large room with a bar along the back wall, so you can have your choice of a table or a seat at the bar. The cultural inspiration can still be felt around the bar, as well. Rix Sports Bar & Grill If you are looking for a place to relax from the busy parks or need to catch a big game while on your trip, Rix might be the place to go! While atmosphere is important to a restaurant, we need to talk about the food. Menu Let’s start with the menu, shall we? Naturally, you’ll find a good selection of drinks at Rix Sports Bar & Grill. There’s a wide variety of cocktails, beer, and hard cider to choose from. Drink menu They have half a page dedicated to a variety of mimosas as well as their wine options. If you’re hoping for some liquor, they’ll have you covered for that, too! Mimosas, wine, and liquor The food menu includes some typical pub grubs. It’s not an extensive list, which is typical of a sports bar, but we think we’ll find something you’ll like — we certainly did! Food menu By this point, you’re probably wondering what we found that we liked, so let’s dive into everything we tried! The Food & Drinks We started off our meal with a cocktail — the Honeysuckle Lemonade. It’s a combination of honeysuckle vodka, lavender bitters, and lemonade. You can grab this cocktail for $13! Honeysuckle Lemonade We noticed this was pretty tart and sour. It was like a grown-up tart lemonade and would be great on a hot summer day. The vodka isn’t overpowering, only giving a hint of the liquor (which might be bad if you have multiple drinks and it sneaks up on ya!). The lavender bitters were subtle, giving a nice addition to the lemonade flavor. For $13, we thought this was tasty and large. Honeysuckle Lemonade Next, we tried out the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread appetizer for $15. This is an easily shareable option of grilled chicken with a blend of flavors including queso spread, diced celery, blue cheese, buffalo sauce, and garnished with scallions and ranch. Caution — this flatbread is SAUCY! A piece of the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread This was a very flavorful flatbread. The crust was nice and crispy and we found the buffalo sauce spicier than other Disney spicy items, but it wasn’t overwhelming. The ranch had a great cooling effect. The diced celery is small, but it adds another bit of crunch and subtle flavor. There’s not a ton of chicken on it, but it was still flavorful. If you’re a buffalo chicken, we recommend getting this! Our main course consisted of the Rix Mac & Cheese Burger for $23! Rix Mac & Cheese Burger This burger is LOADED. It’s their signature burger topped with crispy and creamy macaroni and cheese, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and onion all on a toasted bun. This burger is HUGE (like, gives you carpel tunnel huge). It’s served with standard Disney tater tots (that we found to be very salty). Look at the size of that beast! The mac & cheese is baked, so it’s crispy on the outside but oh, so creamy and cheesy on the inside. The burger patty was flavorful and juicy, so it didn’t have to rely on all the toppings to be good. For $23, we thought it was all very fresh, delicious, and worth the price! Look at all that burger! Our only complaint about the burger was that the bottom bun struggled to support everything inside. If you can handle a messy burger and you’re super hungry, we say totally go for it! For dessert, we had to try the Fried Oreos for $12. Fried Oreos The idea might be your run-of-the-mill carnival fried Oreo dessert, but the execution is perfect. You get four Oreos fried in a funnel cake batter, topped with powdered sugar, and served with a warm chocolate sauce. Talk about chef’s kiss. Warm chocolate sauce Our only complaint here was that we wanted MORE! We would have loved one or two more to make this a more shareable dessert. Other than that, we loved these delicious fried cookies. They were crispy on the outside with the soft and gooey Oreo on the inside. The chocolate sauce isn’t necessarily needed, but we did enjoy it. mmm… Leave it to Disney to make you feel like a kid again inside their bar — sipping on spiked lemonade and eating deep-fried Oreos. If you don’t like fried desserts or Oreos, you’ll want to pass. Otherwise, this was our inner child’s dream. Nosh or Not? We recommend trying Rix Sports Bar & Grill if… You’re staying at Coronado Springs! If you’re already at the resort, you gotta stop by. You love bar food or a bar atmosphere! The food is a delicious and Disney-style take on bar food. You want to watch a game and get some great food while hanging out! This is the spot to hit if you’re looking to watch a big game and you want to eat something tasty. You’re looking for something a bit less, well, Disney. There’s no Disney theming here, so if you want a bit of normalcy on your vacation, check this out! You might want to skip Rix Sports Bar & Grill if… You want a completely Disney experience. Like we said, there’s no Disney theming here, so if want something completely unique to Disney, we recommend one of the many other table service options in the parks. You have to take a bus to get here. Coronado Springs Resort is pretty far away from most other things. While the food is great, it might not be worth the time of taking the bus to get here. You’re looking for healthier options. The food is delicious, but it is still bar food. There are lots of deep-fried and greasy foods here to choose from. Overall Our reporter had said that she had eaten here once before and wasn’t impressed, but this time completely changed her mind! She LOVED everything she ate. It was big portions and super flavorful. The atmosphere provides a bit of relaxation and normalcy on your busy Disney vacation. The server was great — attentive but not overbearing. We found that our food took a while to come out, so ordering it all at once might help with that. Rix Sports Bar and Grill We hope this helps you make an informed decision about whether to eat here or not. In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney restaurant and snack reviews! Disney is wasting no time getting to work on its latest project! Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree is changing in a huge way in Magic Kingdom — Disney Imagineers are updating the show with “an all-new act.” The bears are going to be singing Disney songs in NEW styles, like pop country, rockabilly, and bluegrass! The ride officially closed its doors on January 27th, and now we’ve got our first signs that work is taking place. We stopped by Country Bear Jamboree the day after it closed for refurbishment to check on any signs of construction — and we were surprised by what we found! Okay, so we didn’t really find a lot, although, at first, we thought something exciting was going on here. A STAGE was set up in front of the ride. We quickly learned, though, that this temporary stage is for an upcoming Cast Member event. Still, it looks pretty cool and has a lot of fun details. Stage set up for an event However, the ride itself is completely roped off, so no one can go wandering in while the bears are learning their new songs. This is a closed rehearsal, people! All roped off There is also a fun sign saying “Bear with us,” indicating that the ride is currently closed. Disney does have some cute signs for closed rides and construction sometimes. Bear with us! We’ll keep our eyes out for additional construction updates. Could we see construction walls appear after the stage is taken down? Only time will tell! Over at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (the area formerly home to Splash Mountain), the area is FILLED with construction walls, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens. There’s a lot of construction in Frontierland right now… Stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and changes from Country Bear Jamboree and more in Disney World. Close your eyes for a moment. Picture a cabin in the woods. What does it look like? Are you picturing a simple, cozy house made of pine? Are you imagining a wood fireplace and a thermos full of hot tea? When we hear “cabin,” our mind goes to a log house in the woods. It’s nature! Is this what you were imagining? Perhaps the Cabins at Fort Wilderness is Disney’s answer to an idyllic life in the woods. There’s something about a cozy log cabin that screams “comfort,” right? These cabins have been pretty popular among Disney fans. They give you plenty of space, come with a full kitchen, and make you forget you’re living in the middle of a major Florida city. That’s magic! But recently, Disney did something that SHOCKED a lot of people. Remember those classic cabins we conjured up in our minds? They’re about to change. Back in 2023, Disney announced that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness would be getting a makeover. Imagineers are redesigning these spaces to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort (but keep in mind you don’t have to be a Disney Vacation Club member to book a stay in a new cabin). Here’s a peek at the NEW design. Talk about a MAJOR transformation! ©Disney Gone are the old log cabins, and in their place will be over 350 refreshed cabins. Disney’s concept art features sleek, modern cabins, which Disney explained are “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” ©Disney Just like before, the cabins will sleep up to six adults and feature a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Some cabins will also be dog-friendly. Below, you can see what the living room area will look like — we spy a murphy bed! ©Disney The updated floor plan shows a single bedroom off to the left and a bathroom off to the right. In the center, guests have a kitchen, dining area, and sofa that folds down into a bed. If you’ve ever heard of a “shipping container home,” these designs feel very similar to those homes. (Google it — you’ll see what we mean.) ©Disney OK, now let’s talk about the changes. We’ve heard from a LOT of Disney fans, and the overwhelming sentiment seems to be that fans miss the cozy cabin vibes of the old homes. Let’s be honest — can we even call these new things “cabins”? If anything, it looks like a tiny house! And we’re not saying there’s anything wrong with a tiny house — any kind of HOUSE is an upgrade from those tiny Disney World hotel rooms we’re used to. But by definition, the “cabin” part of the Fort Wilderness Cabins seems to have disappeared. ©Disney Let’s take another look at the old cabins. Some may argue that these rooms were dated. On the other hand, other Disney fans liked the nostalgic, woodsy appearance of these cabins. Either way, many seemed pretty shocked by the new designs. Fort Wilderness cabin So, what are your thoughts? Are you team redesign, or do you miss the log cabin-style homes? These new cabins are set to open on July 1st, 2024. That’s SOON! We can’t wait to check out the new cabins for ourselves. Will we miss the old rooms? Yes. But are we ready for something NEW? Yes! Okay, it is NO secret that when it comes to iconic — and delicious — Disney snacks, Disneyland churros are hard to beat. Rancho del Zocalo in Disneyland Not only do they come in a variety of flavors, but those churros also inspire other snacks, like the Churro Toffee (seriously, it’s the BEST). Well, the churro has now inspired a brand new snack. But does this new snack live up to its churro inspiration? Come with us as we find out! Okay, so we’re headed over to Rancho del Zocalo in Disneyland to try the Mickey-shaped Churro Cream Puff. Okay, that’s like five words that seriously make us SO HAPPY. We’re OBSESSED with Mickey-shaped food, obviously. We’re also obsessed with churros. Plus, adding Cream Puffs? DISNEY, WE LOVE YOU! Mickey-shaped Churro Cream Puff!!! For $7.99, you get a Mickey-shaped churro cream puff filled with cinnamon pastry cream, topped with cinnamon Craquelin and cinnamon sugar. Cream puffs can go stale SO fast, but this treat is kept refrigerated, so it’s nice and soft when you get it. But does it taste like a churro? Yep, it’s shaped like Mickey! YES!!! It’s like a churro but a little fancier than one you can just carry in your hand on the go — no, you want to sit down and enjoy every bite of this baby. Inside the pastry is a liberal amount of cream, too, and it also has subtle hints of cinnamon — it’s sort of like a vanilla cinnamon custard. The flavor is mild so that it doesn’t overwhelm the pastry. SO good It’s also a good portion size, especially with all that cream. We thought it was very filling, especially for something under $8. Now, we will say the chocolate piece on top isn’t anything special — it’s more decorative than anything. But we dipped it in the cream, and YUM. By the way, Mickey’s ears also have cream in them! Disney knocked it out of the park with this treat. LOTS of cream inside So head on over to Rancho del Zocalo to try it for yourself and tell ’em that Disney Food Blog sent you. Maybe they’ll decide to keep it on the menu permanently (we can only hope!). Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews! Yes, you probably enjoy shopping and eating around Disney World, but let’s face it — most people are there for the rides! EPCOT We can’t blame you because Disney World is full of both classic and innovative attractions. While many think of Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom as the parks with the longest wait times, EPCOT has a couple of rides that pull big crowds of their own. Today we’re going to check out the average wait times from the past week in Disney World listed from highest to lowest by park. What are you waiting for? Let’s get into it. Magic Kingdom Wait Times After dipping to a 71-minute average last week, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is back up in the 80s with an 83-minute average. When you travel to Disney World, do you fly? Orlando Airport Well, if you do, you’ve probably already experienced a delay here and there or maybe even a flight cancelation. These things do sometimes happen. Well, delays might be even MORE common, at least over the next few months. Earlier this month, an Alaskan Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a chunk of the plane’s fuselage was blown out. That resulted in flights with that particular type of plane, a Boeing 737-9 MAX, to be grounded until all the planes could be properly inspected. ©Alaska Airlines In response to the incident, flights on United Airlines were also canceled. The two airlines are the only domestic carriers utilizing those particular planes. Overall, hundreds of flights ended up being canceled. Well, now, it looks like more flights could be delayed or canceled. ©Getty Images The FAA is now suggesting that flights on Boeing 737-900ER planes also be thoroughly inspected. Although these are different planes from the 737-9 MAX, they still have the same door plug design that proved faulty in the 737-9 MAX. The FAA Safety Alert for Operators states: “The Boeing 737-900ER mid-exit door plugs have an identical door plug design to the 737-9 MAX. As part of their Safety Management Systems, some operators have conducted additional inspections on the 737-900ER mid-exit door plugs and have noted findings with bolts during the maintenance inspections.” Expect more flight delays and cancellations If these planes are to be inspected, this will affect even more airlines, including Delta Airlines, who, according to Reuters, currently has 160 of these particular planes in its fleet. Alaska Airlines has 79 in its fleet, while United has 136. ©Delta We’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation and keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more. We’ve been in love with Disney World for basically our whole lives, okay? Magic Kingdom So, it’s safe to say that we’ve started to kind of pick up on hints that Disney drops. Clues they leave behind. Well, it’s more like Disney does things that can sometimes really get our hopes up, and then it’s all that we can focus on for the next week. Disney did that a few times THIS week, and we’re here to share those clues that we think Disney could be droppin’. Alright, sleuths. Who’s ready to look at some clues? Clue #1 — Disney could SHORTEN the Food and Wine Festival. Okay, y’all. We’re about to get into some evidence. EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival used to start in August, and run until November. Then, it changed to starting in July, and still run until November. However, in previous years, they keep pushing back the start date again and again. The 2023 festival started 10 days later than the one in 2020. Artist Palette of Wine and Cheese at the Food and Wine Festival Oh, and Disney actually DID shorten the Flower and Garden Festival! All of this leads us to think that the Food and Wine Festival could be on its way to being a shorter, fall-only kind of deal. Click here to see what else is happening at EPCOT Clue #2 — We could see MORE menu changes at Disney’s BoardWalk. We were strolling on the BoardWalk and decided to check out Trattoria al Forno, one of our favorite restaurants that still hasn’t brought back one of our FAVORITE character dining experiences, Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast. Here, you could meet Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, as well as Ariel and Prince Eric. Trattoria al Forno We were informed that there has been a CHANGE in the bar menu offerings at Trattoria al Forno. From reopening until now, the bar offerings were provided by Trattoria al Forno for AbracadaBAR, and now that has changed over to being serviced by Flying Fish Cafe (which neighbors the bar to the opposite side of Trattoria al Forno.) So, does this mean that more things will change for the Trattoria menu? WILL WE MAYBE SEE THE RETURN OF BON VOYAGE? Okay, that’s probably a stretch. But we could totally see more menu changes. Click here to see what else is new at and around the Disney World hotels! Clue #3 — We’re probably going to blow our diet in 2024. We tried to set those New Year’s resolutions where we promised ourselves that we wouldn’t eat three desserts a day anymore. Well, we already have an inkling that these resolutions won’t really go over well. We found something super delicious this week and we just have to share it. It’s the TWIX Chocolate Caramel Bundt Cake for $5.99. It’s a mini chocolate bundt cake with caramel filling, topped with chocolate fudge frosting and chopped TWIX, and you can get it at the Main Street Confectionery in Magic Kingdom. It’s literally delicious It’s dense, but moist. Sweet without being overwhelming, with a rich chocolate flavor. The frosting is sweet, pairs well with the cake, and the TWIX crumbles enhance the cake rather than just clumping up and being super distracting — like some crushed caramel treats can do. We recommend this to anyone and everyone who loves chocolate or bundt cakes! Of course, there were plenty of other exciting things that happened at Disney World this week. With Walt Disney Studios being over 100 years old, there is no doubt that their catalog of movies and characters is expansive! Beauty and the Beast in the Festival of Fantasy parade in Disney World We have recently uncovered some hidden treasures and facts about the costumes worn by Disney characters in their movies. These are fascinating fun facts, and we hope you find them just as interesting as we did! Both animated and live-action costumes alike will be mentioned, and we think it is so incredibly cool that animated films, like their live-action counterparts, have costume designers who have created these hidden details! Frozen II The beautiful dresses and outfits in the Frozen movies have become iconic representations of our favorite Nordic characters. Hello, Elsa! The costume designers for Frozen II traveled to Europe, specifically Nordic countries like Finland, Norway, and Iceland, to gather ideas and influences. The resulting fashion in the movies draws inspiration directly from fashion culture within these Nordic countries! Encanto Have you wondered if there are any hidden hints about each character’s magical gift in their clothing? The Encanto costume designers, and real-life sisters Neysa and Lorelay Bové, revealed that each character’s clothing is reminiscent of their gift! Spices adorn Julieta’s skirt, while Luisa’s skirt has dumbells embroidered on it! Antonio’s vest features animals, while Dolores’ costume is decorated with sound waves! Beauty and the Beast (2017) The 2017 live-action edition of Beauty and the Beast features a lot of fun facts and costume considerations! Hi, Belle! For example, Gaston’s outfits differ slightly from his animated counterpart. The costume designer of the movie, Jacqueline Durran, explained that they took inspiration from 18th-century military style and dressed Gaston according to that. ©Disney And get this — Prince Adam’s (aka, the Beast in human form) first outfit is adorned with thousands of real Swarovski crystals! The embroidery on his coat also features a wild boar, a dragon, and a lion, all to be reminiscent of his family crest. Cruella (2021) Cruella does nothing subtly, and the same can be said for her costume designers. Don’t act like Cruella in the parks! Oscar-winning costume designer, Jenny Beavan described just how intricate the costumes of Cruella were, stating that over 5,000 petals were used for the large petal-covered gown worn by Cruella in the film. More accurately, 5,060 petals were used for that dress. That’s a lot of petals! She’s fabulous! These facts are so neat to us! We love learning more about what goes into making the magic we all love to watch on screen, and we absolutely admire all of the hard work put into it. If you’ve been to Disney World before, you know that you go through security when you arrive at the parks. Spaceship Earth in EPCOT The check usually includes a walk through an advanced scanning device, and then you’re on your merry way. They’re looking out for prohibited items like weapons, pyrotechnics, and even selfie sticks. However, sometimes items that are totally fine to have in the parks will set off the scanners, and then you’ll be subjected to a very thorough bag check! Here are some of the super random items that have caused us problems in the past. Umbrellas The first thing on the list is probably the most common! Anytime we’re at the parks for a stormy day, the security Cast Members will be calling out for visitors to remove umbrellas from their bags as they walk through the scanners. Dark Side Light-up Umbrella If you hold the umbrella directly in front of you, they’ll likely let you through security no problem. But without fail, umbrellas seem to almost always set off the alarm if they’re stowed in our bags! Large Phone Chargers It’s a pretty good idea to bring a portable phone charger with you to Disney World, considering you’ll be using your phone for everything from Genie+ to Mobile Ordering to snapping pictures. All that stuff drains your battery FAST! But if you’ve got a large charger brick, you might need to remove it from your backpack when you go through security. Heavy Duty Portable Charger by Kapurui Small portable chargers don’t typically cause too many problems, but the larger battery packs designed to fully charge your phone or charge multiple devices will often get flagged. Just do yourself a favor and take it out of the bag and hold it in front of you, just like the umbrella. More Than 2 FuelRods One problem we’ve recently discovered is that there’s a limit to how many FuelRods you can pass through security with. Here at DFB, our reporters love using these chargers because they can be swapped at kiosks around the park (so you always have a fully charged version!). However, if you’re carrying more than two in your bag at a time, you might run into a problem. Fuel Rod Station in PizzeRizzo This is probably a niche issue, because it’s pretty wild to own three FuelRods in the first place (we like to live on the wild side!), but just be warned in case you’ve got enough of these for your whole family. Two is fine, three will set off the alarm. Tins of Mints Another issue we’ve found recently is with tins of mints! If you have a small metal box filled with mints or other necessities, it might cause you some problems. We bought some Disney100 mints on sale a few weeks ago and kept getting stopped at security after that. 100th Anniversary Mints So what do we do when we have mints in our bags then? (Say it all together!) We take them out and hold them in front of us when we walk through the scanner. Good job! Metal Water Bottles Last but not least, let’s talk about metal water bottles! This one is really a hit or miss, but some metal water bottles will cause problems, depending on their size and what type of metal they’re made out of. Minnie Water bottle You’re totally allowed to bring your own water bottle to the parks, though! Don’t forget to pack one so you can stay hydrated all day long. Darth Vader bottle So there you go — our advice for making security a little bit easier during your next trip! We’ll keep you in the loop with any more park tips we learn during our visits. What do these 12, seemingly random, upcoming dates have in common? Magic Kingdom Last year, the former Reedy Creek Improvement District became the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District after Governor Ron Desantis’ state takeover. The District is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors, who are all appointed by the Governor. Since taking over the District, the Board of Supervisors has made a number of decisions with major impacts on Disney’s operations. After the dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District in 2023, Disney has been engaged in multiple battles with the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. Disney World entrance Since taking over, the Board of Supervisors has made some controversial decisions like eliminating Disney World Annual Pass benefits for employees of the District, floating potential changes to infrastructure in the area, and more, sparking numerous legal battles between the District and Disney. Spaceship Earth The Board of Supervisors meets roughly once a month to make decisions on aspects of administration that range from infrastructure financing to growth management. And the decisions made at these meetings can have major impacts on Disney World’s operations within the District. Hollywood Studios In addition to a previously held meeting on January 24th, the Board of Supervisors has 12 more meetings scheduled for 2024: February 28 March 27 April 24 May 22 June 26 July 24 August 28 September 11 September 25 October 23 November 20 December 18 Between the way previous meetings have played out and the wide-ranging administrative decisions determined by the board, these dates could end up having a critical impact on Disney World’s operations. It’s the end of an era in Magic Kingdom! Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree was one of the opening day attractions at Magic Kingdom, opening alongside the park on October 1st, 1971. Last year, Disney announced that the attraction would be closing to make room for a new, updated version of the show. The original Country Bear Jamboree gave its final performances on January 26th, 2024. And now that it’s officially closed, let’s take a look at what’s REALLY changing with the classic attraction. The new version of Country Bear Jamboree is set to debut in Summer 2024. While we don’t know exactly what the refreshed show will look like yet, let’s dive into the changes that Disney has confirmed so far! Country Bear Jamboree First, and foremost, the name of the show is receiving a slight tweak to go along with the new version. Instead of Country Bear Jamboree, the new version will be called Country Bear Musical Jamboree. Country Bear Musical Jamboree Coming Summer 2024! The show will be a take on classic variety shows found in Nashville, Tennessee, and Nashville musicians are involved in the new arrangements. The bears will perform their songs in new styles like country, rockabilly, and bluegrass. Country Bear Jamboree It hasn’t yet been confirmed if the full versions of any fan-favorite songs from the original show will return, but Disney has said it, “will include easter eggs from the beginning to the end including a familiar tune fans may remember.” Country Bears But on the topic of songs, it HAS been confirmed that the new show will feature classic Disney songs performed in country, rockabilly, and bluegrass styles. Disney shared a behind-the-scenes clip of “The Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book, so that’s a hint for one song that we might see the bears perform! That’s the only clue we’ve seen so far, so no word yet on what other Disney songs might appear. Country Bear Jamboree Fitting with the updated style, the bears will also get a refreshed wardrobe of new outfits. Disney shared this sneak peek at Henry’s new look, for an idea of the direction the styling might go! ©Disney Disney also confirmed that the bear originally named “Liver Lips McGrowl” is getting a new name — Romeo McGrowl. His Name is Being Changed to Romeo McGrowl! This change is also reflected on the posters for Country Bear Musical Jamboree. ©Disney Now that the show has officially closed, we’ll keep a close eye out for any updates as changes are made for the new version coming this summer. So decades ago, a lot of folks might have considered Disney’s Hollywood Studios a half-day park. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Hey, don’t come at us! It’s true! At one point, Hollywood Studios didn’t have a LOT going on, not like it has now. But thanks to the addition of Toy Story Land and later, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Hollywood Studios has become one of the most popular Disney World parks. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, in particular, has made the park stand out, but despite that, Hollywood Studios is still missing something HUGE. So one thing we often hear from folks is that Hollywood Studios lacks great dining options. We have to admit that out of Disney’s four parks, it ranks pretty low for us when it comes to restaurants. But let’s take a look, in particular at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. You would think Disney might have gone HARD on offering all the space-themed food it could think of, but honestly, the pickings are pretty sparse. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge All Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has are two counter-service restaurants: Ronto Roasters and Docking Bay 7 plus a few snack spots. And although we could eat a Ronto Wrap nearly every day, Disney has missed a huge opportunity in this land. Why does Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge not have a table service restaurant? Ronto Roasters Don’t even get us started with Oga’s Cantina, which could’ve been SO MUCH MORE, but instead just offers a few mediocre snacks and pre-mixed drinks. Sure, those drinks are fun, and the atmosphere is cool (although we think it could use more aliens), but it’s still not a table service restaurant. Even Toy Story Land has its own table service restaurant, so what gives? Oga’s Cantina in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Imagine a table service restaurant in Galaxy’s Edge, though, with a specialized menu that goes above what you can get at Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters. In fact, we don’t even have to imagine it too hard because we had a chance to dine in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room several times on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (aka the Star Wars hotel) before it closed. Crown of Corellia Dining Room There, we had a chance to dine on some unique Star Wars-themed food. Lunch was served buffet-style with some space-themed options, and dinner was a grand affair with a menu that might have come straight out of George Lucas’ imagination. Even the drinks went above and beyond what you could get at Oga’s. Crown of Corellia menu So now that this Star Wars experience has closed, why can’t Disney take some of those ideas and create a table service restaurant themed to Star Wars? They even have the building that housed the Galactic Starcruiser and could use that to do something amazing. May we also remind Disney that we were once promised a Dinner Club in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? Well, we remember, and WE’VE GOT THE RECEIPTS. Here’s the concept art: ©Disney Oh, hmmm…that looks familiar, doesn’t it? If you followed our coverage of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, you might remember that we watched a show in the Crown of Corellia dining room with a Twi’lek singer (just like in the concept art. So Disney already knows how to make this idea work, so why not bring the idea back for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? Gaya performing at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser So there, we said it. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is great and all, but Hollywood Studios, as a whole, could be even better if Disney would just add a table service restaurant in that land. Who’s with us? If you ever catch us NOT eating at Disney World chowing down on Corn Dog Nuggets with Plastic Cheese, eating Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, and enjoying some sweets from Main Street Confectionery, then there’s a good bet we’re having a meal at McDonald’s. Double the love We’ve been collecting Happy Meal toys (OBVIOUSLY) but we go there for the food, too. So, when we heard a Double Big Mac was coming to McDonald’s, you KNOW we had to go grab one for ourselves — and we might be writing this from the grave. The Double Big Mac comes with four 100% all-beef patties (WHEW), along with a LOT of Big Mac sauce. It’s topped with pickles, shredded lettuce, finely chopped onions, and a slice of American cheese, all sandwiched between a sesame seed bun. Flavor-wise, it tastes just like a regular Big Mac, but we have to say it — it’s TOO MUCH. There’s way too much meat and, although we love that Big Mac sauce, there’s way too much of that, too. That sauce was literally dripping off the burger and making a mess. This is… a lot. Also, the quality of the beef patties wasn’t great. Ours were salty, dry, and overcooked — which is, honestly, how we think of McDonald’s burgers in general, but when you’ve got four of them together, it’s VERY noticeable. Also, it needs MORE CHEESE. Yes, we love cheese, but if you’re doubling the meat, why not double the cheese, too? That could’ve balanced things out a little more. More is not always better. So nope, we are just NOT loving it when it comes to this burger. We’ll take a regular Big Mac over this any old day. However, if you’re curious and love Big Macs, go ahead and get it. Lovers of McDonald’s burgers might end up really enjoying this, but we did not. We had to try it, but that’s how we felt about it. Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews! We’re barely into 2024 and Disney World has already changed in some major ways. Disney World Annual Pass The Disney Dining Plan is back, Country Bear Jamboree is getting a refurbishment, and Park Passes Reservations have gone away for most guests! And, while that’s a reason to celebrate for most, Annual Passholders have been left wondering when it’ll be their turn. So, that begs the question: Will Disney World ever truly get rid of park passes for Annual Passholders? While we don’t claim to know the future (that’s something we typically leave to magic mirrors and crystal balls), we do have a few ideas about what might happen when it comes to the future of Park Pass Reservations for Annual Passholders (APs). But, we’re not the only ones who have thoughts — we turned to our readers on Facebook to get an idea of what they think, too, and here’s what they said. Yes, Disney will get rid of park passes for Annual Passholders. Real talk — Disney World never had park passes in the past (for APs or otherwise) so it would stand to reason that the parks could function just as they did once before. And, when you consider the fact that Disney has already done away with park passes for most other guests, well, why wouldn’t they also get rid of them for Annual Passholders? Hollywood Studios Disney has also stressed the importance of bringing flexibility back into the guest experience for parkgoers — acknowledging that they’ve heard guests saying they wish they could “plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit” a la the old FastPass+ system. Magic Kingdom If flexibility is a goal, Disney might continue their efforts and offer that same flexibility to Passholders. Right now, APs still need to make reservations if they plan on visiting the parks before 2PM or Magic Kingdom on weekends — or if it’s a “Good To Go” Day. More on that in a bit. Read More About the Changes Disney Has Announced for Genie+ No, Disney won’t get rid of park passes for Annual Passholders. Look, there’s probably a very good reason Disney has decided to do things this way and we won’t pretend to know what’s behind their logic. Through blockout dates and park passes, Disney can control when Annual Passholders visit the parks — and how many of them can visit on any given day compared to regular, ticketed guests. Pandora Not only that, but we’ve heard Disney executives comment on park passes helping them to predict and control overall park capacity — something we know the company is quite fond of. Spaceship Earth in EPCOT Knowing where a parkgoer plans on spending their day is also a major factor when it comes to appropriate staffing of Cast Members. Park passes give Disney more information about crowds and where they may need to send more Cast Members on any given day. Disney let go quite a few Cast Members during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it doesn’t look like they’ve fully restaffed based on some offerings still not returning yet. It all depends! We warned you — we can’t see the future, so it all really just depends. Disney will likely test this current system out to see how it goes before making any changes — major or minor. We could also see Disney get rid of park passes for Annual Passholders for the most part, implementing them only during busy times like holidays and festivals. Journey of Water And then, there are the “Good To Go” Days. On these days, Passholders can enter any theme park with no reservation required. We’ve already seen some of these days pop up on the calendar, and Disney has even added more, indicating that this is something they plan on continuing — at least for a while. Magic Kingdom So, while we don’t actually know what the future holds for Annual Passholders and park passes, you can be sure that we’ll be keeping up with any major changes you need to know about. Yes, ANOTHER giant hotel will be built near Disney World! ©Click Orlando There has been lots of construction going on in and around Disney World lately. This constant progress has seemed to have forced other major entertainment parks to continue to innovate to keep up with all the updates Disney seems to have their eye on lately. Universal Orlando has been making huge strides on their next main gate park, Epic Universe which is set to include two brand new celestial-themed hotels, and now another Orlando-based park is looking to make some BIG changes soon! Disney World’s entertainment giant neighbor has taken steps to secure permits to build a brand new hotel. SeaWorld Orlando (which lies along the major highway 1-4 in between Disney World and Universal Orlando) has officially filed plans outlining the building of another hotel to host their park visitors. SeaWorld Plans for this new addition were submitted with Orange County just days ago according to Spectrum News 13 for what they’re calling, “Project Canopy.” The plans for this hotel outline building a new hotel for the company featuring 250 rooms near its Discovery Cove resort. ©Orange County Upon further inspection, the plans show the hotel is planned to be located near the park’s entrance (just off Central Florida Parkway) on a section of SeaWorld Orlando’s property which already includes 50 acres and has a parking lot. The proposed plans for “Project Canopy” would include a restaurant, bar, pool, fitness center, retail space, and nearly 7,000 square feet of meeting space. ©Orange County This isn’t a first of its kind though for SeaWorld Orlando. These latest plans were filed just a month after the company filed plans to build its 1st Orlando-based hotel according to Click Orlando. Under the codename “Project Starboard,” the initial plans for a SeaWorld Orlando hotel are said to include a massive 15-story, 504-room hotel with a rooftop terrace, restaurants, meeting space, and an elevated walkway connecting the hotel to the park. While not much further about plans for either hotel in store for SeaWorld Orlando has been provided, SeaWorld’s CEO Marc Swanson said on an earnings call in November of 2023 that the company planned to open its first hotels in 2026. ©SeaWorld Orlando As it stands now, SeaWorld Orlando is the only major theme park operator in Central Florida that doesn’t operate their own onsite hotels. This has left several to speculate if these latest plans to expand the SeaWorld Orlando footprint are to help the company compete against upcoming hotel projects with other major entertainment players such as the Universal Stella Nova and Universal Terra Luna hotels joining the Universal Orlando offerings with the opening of its next park, and Disney World’s latest Disney Vacation Club tower under construction at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. ©SeaWorld Orlando SeaWorld Orlando has also really taken to updating its ride and attractions offerings in recent years as well. Penguin Trek, the family-friendly launch coaster is expected to debut this spring at SeaWorld Orlando, following very shortly after the ambitious Pipeline: The Surf Coaster that debuted last May. The company’s sister water park, Aquatica Orlando, is also gearing up for some new attractions as well. Aquatica Orlando is currently wrapping up a new “immersive” water slide called Tassie’s Underwater Twist set to open this spring. We’ll be keeping you updated on the progress of this giant hotel as it’s being built and finished. It’s time to say goodbye! The Country Bear Jamboree — referred to as “Walt’s last laugh” by some Disney Cast Members — is closing. But fear not! The show isn’t closing for good. In fact, Disney has big plans to update the 50-year-old show. Before the show closes its curtains for a while, we stopped by to say goodbye (or at least, “See ya real soon!“). Country Bear Jamboree We weren’t the only ones, though! The line to catch the Country Bear Jamboree was LONG — in fact, Cast Members had to close the line early to keep up with the demand. Guests in line were given complimentary Lightning Lanes for Magic Kingdom for January 27th and free posters for their time in line. We got a poster! Around 11PM, the theater was full of guests! Here’s one final look at the show before it closes. Don’t forget — the NEW show is set to debut THIS SUMMER, 2024. When Disney CEO Bob Iger returned to take on the position for a second time in 2022, everyone — fans included — had high hopes. ©MasterClass After the pandemic, things started to slowly spiral downhill for a lot of media giants — Disney included. For starters, the relatively new Disney+ was expensive to build, and the revenue wasn’t rolling in like Disney had hoped, and theme park revenue and attendance were down because of COVID-19. Bob Iger, who’d recently retired from his position as CEO and was serving as a chairman, seemed to be the company’s only hope. So, in November 2022, he was back in the position. Now, over a year later, some analysts believe Disney doesn’t seem to be much better, although Iger has shared his hopes to make a profit again by the end of fiscal 2024. A former executive has chimed in. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) shared an article in which they compared Iger to former Disney CEO Michael Eisner. In many ways, they are the same: they had a great few years as CEO, stakeholders and fans alike were rooting for them, and things seemed to be on the up and up. ©Disney However, after a few years, things started to decline for both of these CEOs. In reference to former CEO Michael Eisner, WSJ said, “After more than a decade in which he had revived the fabled Disney brand and appeared untouchable, he lost momentum and his leadership descended into controversy and financial decline. He eventually stepped down following a shareholder rebellion.” ©Disney Iger replaced Eisner in October of 2005, and in 2022, Iger was confident that Bob Chapek could continue to turn things around post-pandemic. After Chapek implemented a series of changes that left many Disney fans upset, The Walt Disney Company pivoted once again. In 2022, Iger returned, as folks were confident in his ability to lead the company based on his previous run. ©D23 Well, based on the past few earnings calls, things still aren’t looking too great. Even IF Disney does begin to make a profit in the box office, within streaming, and in the Parks and Experiences again like they’re projecting, Disney owes money to a lot of folks. Disney is still paying off its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and in 2023, Disney finalized the acquisition of the remaining shares in Hulu. (To put things into perspective, Disney still isn’t generating a profit but agreed to an $8.61 BILLION deal to acquire the remaining Hulu shares.) Whew! ©Deadline Investor Nelson Peltz stated that Iger’s actions so far — from job cuts to cost savings to reviews — are inadequate. His investment partner Isaac Ike Perlmutter, former Marvel entertainment chairman, said, “Iger is a copy of Eisner. The entire board is his friends.” He went on to say that the entire board needed to be restructured so that it’s more independent. ©Disney Another spot where Iger and Eisner compare is their succession situation. Although Iger did end up succeeding Eisner, WSJ reports that there was a lengthy bit of time when Eisner didn’t have clarity on the best option for a successor — similar to where Iger stands now. However, where the two differ, according to former Disney chief financial officer Gary Wilson, Iger has all but soiled his chances of finding a suitable successor. Bob Iger ©New York Post Wilson said, “Iger has systematically eliminated any executive who could become a successor. To me it’s a real black mark on Iger’s record.” Bob Iger Another place where the two differ is that in 2004 and 2005, Eisner didn’t have to consider things like streaming platforms, direct-to-consumer within streaming, or streaming competitors like Apple or Amazon, who, according to WSJ and Wilson, aren’t under the same amount of pressure to create a streaming solution that actually WORKS to generate revenue. ©Disney Executives have predicted who Iger’s successor will be, and we could find out who that person is as early as THIS year. Although Iger’s contract won’t end until 2026, championing and training an executive to take on the role of CEO is no small feat and could take over a year. Hopefully, Iger will take after Eisner once again and find a fresh face to take on the position and turn things around. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing.
