Runners of all ages, we’re excited to announce two new races coming to Disney Parks in Asia! Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s 10K Weekend is back and bigger than ever on November 3-4, this year with a new Disney·Pixar theme. All skill levels will enjoy races themed to The Incredibles, Monsters University, Toy Story and Mickey & Friends. Dozens of characters from beloved Disney·Pixar movies will cheer runners on as they race through Hong Kong Disneyland and around the resort. Four new exclusive race medals are up for grabs, plus limited-edition merchandise. Winners of The Incredibles 10K will also receive perks like a one-night stay at Disney Explorers Lodge or lunch buffet at the resort. Registration for this event is open June 28 through August 28. Shanghai Disney Resort will host its first-ever Disney Inspiration Run on September 15-16 with three specially-designed courses winding through the resort’s most iconic features, including Enchanted Storybook Castle and the new Disney·Pixar Toy Story Land. All three courses finish alongside the picturesque Wishing Star Lake. Music, entertainment and Disney characters will greet participants along the way. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a unique race medal featuring either Mickey Mouse, Donald or Pluto to commemorate the occasion, and all participants will be able to purchase Shanghai Disneyland tickets at a discount to enjoy the park with family and friends after their run. The June 30 grand opening of Toy Story Land is almost here! Over the past few months, we’ve shared some amazing photos and videos of Toy Story Land, and today’s video – a daytime aerial flyover of the new land – just may be our best yet. As we’ve previously shared, Toy Story Land will give guests a “toy’s-eye-view” of Andy’s backyard, and allow them to join in on the fun that Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and Andy’s other beloved toys are having. Here, guests can ride Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit, take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, walk through a new carnival game box to experience Toy Story Mania!, grab a tasty snack at Woody’s Lunchbox – and meet some of the characters from “Toy Story” films! In the video above, you see a different view of Slinky Dog Dash that shows the width and scope of the coaster, as friendly little Slinky appears and glides around the track. This past weekend, Lamplight Lounge opened in Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park, celebrating the creativity, inspiration and personalities of the artists who bring Pixar stories to life. Not only does this new dining location offer table-service dining, gastro-pub cuisine and panoramic views of Paradise Bay, but Lamplight Lounge also serves as a tribute to Pixar storytellers—and in typical Pixar fashion, is full of special references and insider stories. Let’s take a closer look! This stylish restaurant is inspired by the artistry and creativity of Pixar animators over the years. Renovated from an old warehouse factory, Lamplight Lounge boasts cool architectural elements like concrete and exposed brick walls that reveal its storied past—all while creating an airy, bright and eclectic ambiance. Guests will be excited to see a trove of Pixar treasures sprinkled throughout the California casual décor, including concept art, napkin sketches, knick-knacks, collectible toys and other mementos “left behind” by the filmmakers. Guests who look “Up” will see a beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling at Lamplight Lounge. The chandelier features sketch artwork and film quotes from Pixar animated films, including “Coco,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles” and more. The design features blank pages at the top, to represent one of the most difficult stages in the design process—starting with a blank slate—along with character artwork from artists in several Pixar departments. You may notice a wall of t-shirts as you go downstairs, which represents a little-known Pixar tradition during production. The t-shirts on display are examples of the team shirts created during a film, celebrating accomplishments, humorous inside jokes or even a particular department’s influence on the film. Many décor items at Lamplight Lounge are inspired by the creative interior design of Pixar Animation Studios’ campus where the artists bring playful details into their work day. For example, a dining table inside the restaurant closely replicates a “Cars”-themed table located in one of Pixar’s conference rooms. Die-cast toys created for the Disney•Pixar film “Cars” can be seen under the glass table top. As most Pixar fans know, every toy has a story and the toys you’ll see around Lamplight Lounge are no exception. Above the “Cars” dining table, guests will notice shelves of toys that have been pulled from the Pixar archives. Below the toy shelves are examples of design comments and notes exchanged between Pixar and its toy manufacturing partners to ensure that the final product is as accurate as possible. Each toy goes through many rounds of notes in various forms, including drawings and creative reviews. Last week, Luis Fonsi and his familia embarked on a magical cruise vacation with Disney Cruise Line. The Puerto Rican singer and songwriter, best known for his worldwide hit song “Despacito,” set off for a tropical escape with his wife Agueda and daughter Mikaela to the Bahamas aboard the Disney Dream. During the special four-night voyage, Luis and his family experienced all the exciting activities and magical moments a Disney cruise has to offer, including the newest Disney Cruise Line stage show, “Beauty and the Beast.” They relaxed on sun-soaked beaches, hung out with favorite Disney friends and Mikaela even went to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for a fabulous princess makeover. Best of all, this special sailing featured not one, but two incredible days at Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay! Purchasing the Disney Dining Plan (or scoring free DDP!) for your Walt Disney World vacation can mean real value for your vacation dining — but some uses of those Disney Dining Plan credits (officially called entitlements) are better than others. Cinderella Castle Views Here at the DFB, we help you make the most of your credits with videos like How to Master the Disney Dining Plan and info about the Best Uses of Quick Service Credits. This time, it’s all about the one-credit table service Disney Dining Plan! We scour menus to try to find the monetary values, but we also consider food quality and the atmosphere in which guests dine. Because it doesn’t matter how much money you’re saving by using your credits if the restaurant’s environment and food are duds. So here are our 2018 picks for Recommended Disney Dining Plan One Credit Values! Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs Easily one of the most spectacular restaurants in terms of decor and ambiance, Morimoto Asia in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs also offers tremendous value. But the best part? The food is outstanding! Orange Chicken Dinner at Morimoto Asia is a signature affair and requires two DDP credits, but for 2018, lunch remains one credit — and it’s a credit very well spent! Some entrees here cost nearly $40, and there are plenty of options for alcoholic beverages if you’re looking to up your value even further. Mango Matcha Punch The only bummer? Desserts here aren’t amazing, so consider asking your server if you can sub one of the terrific appetizers for the dessert. It’s not a guarantee by any means, but if you can do it, you won’t regret it! ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort You’ve heard us rave about ‘Ohana’s atmosphere and location — a place where you’re welcomed by your “cousin,” made to feel like family, and get Cinderella Castle views to boot! But the food is also something to celebrate here. Although not as high-end as Morimoto, ‘Ohana serves up Polynesian-inspired cuisine in portions as big as you wish, and there’s pretty much something for everyone. Dinner includes yummy sides like Pork Dumplings and Honey-Coriander Chicken Wings. Sides — Wontons, Lo Mein, Stir Fried Vegetables, Chicken Wings And grilled meats are served on massive skewers, which servers deliver right to your plate from the on-stage grill station. Alcoholic beverages are tasty here, including the famous Lapu Lapu (served sans pineapple to DDP diners!) and increase your value tremendously. But the real star of the show — at least for us — is the ‘Ohana Bread Pudding a la Mode. This is a dessert worth DDP-ing for! ‘Ohana Bread Pudding The All-You-Care-to-Enjoy servings at ‘Ohana make this $46 dinner (and $34 breakfast!) a terrific DDP value. Views of the castle, the inviting atmosphere, and the engaging entertainment put ‘Ohana over the top. Teppan Edo in the Japan Pavilion at Epcot Teppan Edo, located in the Japan Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase, is dinner with a show — a very close-up show. This is a Hibachi-style meal where diners are seated around a screaming hot grill, and the chefs perform as they cook up your proteins, veggies, rice, and noodles. Chef in action And while this hot spot is often overlooked among the World Showcase table service joints, we enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Meats are cooked and seasoned well, and this is one place where you get a sizable portion of vegetables, too. Completed Tori Entree And for $30+ per entree, it’s a monetary windfall. Between the good food and the fun show, Teppan Edo is a great value on the DDP! Boma at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge In the world of Disney Dining Plan credits, a buffet is almost always a good value — but Boma‘s buffet is next level. Not only is it one of the most expensive buffets in Walt Disney World (coming in at over $40 for dinner!), it’s also one of the best in terms of food quality. Spit Roasted Chicken at Boma Located on the lower level of Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Jambo House, aromas from Boma fill the resort. And that’s all thanks to some roasting meats and African-inspired cuisine. And did we mention the buffet features some of the best soups we’ve ever had at Walt Disney World? Zebra Domes fro Boma Aside from expansive food options that celebrate the flavors of Africa, Boma also benefits from being a beautiful and immersive restaurant. With batiks billowing down from the ceiling and rich wood tones everywhere you look, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a safe and sheltered spot to rest, relax, and refuel — just as the name Boma suggests! Boma Atmosphere These qualities combine to make Boma a can’t-miss for DDP diners who are looking to maximize their credits and their overall dining experience. Sanaa But let’s not leave Animal Kingdom Lodge just yet, because Sanaa is one of our favorite spots to dine — and it’s a one-credit DDP option that provides just stellar food quality in a beautiful (and sometimes wild) setting. That’s because Sanaa overlooks one of the resort’s savannas, and diners often find themselves being accompanied by some furry and feathered friends. Hello, friend. The Indian-Style Bread Service (pictured above) is not to be missed here (and is worth paying out of pocket), and the entrees are complex and interesting. We love the Potjie, which includes two choices of rich, saucy meats and veg, plus rice. Butter Chicken (Left) and Paneer Tikka (Right) And the desserts at Sanaa? Not to be missed! Across the board, they were terrific on our most recent visit. And the Spice Trade Candy Bar? Perfect in every way. Spice Trade Candy Bar at Sanaa Once you’ve enjoyed a meal at Sanaa, it’s hard to believe that it’s a one-credit DDP restaurant. The food quality is top-notch, and the atmosphere is beautiful and rustic and sophisticated all at once. Le Chefs de France in the France Pavilion at Epcot The many restaurants of Epcot mean you can dine in pretty much any country you desire — and we desire the specialties de France, mes amis! Entrees run high — some close to $30 — and there are desserts for every palate. Some dishes are better than others, but the quality is always high. Roasted Chicken But the best thing about Les Chefs de France is the atmosphere. With massive windows letting in lots of light and the breezy decor setting a relaxing tone, diners feel transported in a way that accents the already fantastic meal. Sunroom Area Buffet Restaurants at Walt Disney World If you’ve got diners with big appetites (or diners with picky ones!), consider applying your Disney Dining Plan table service credit at a buffet. Walt Disney World offers buffets with a character spin, and we’ve got a handy guide to help you decide which one is right for you! At the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, 1900 Park Fare provides two character experiences: various Disney friends at breakfast — often featuring Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh! — and Cinderella and her Prince Charming (plus the step-family!) at dinner! Service has been inconsistent over the years, but the strawberry soup is always a hit! Strawberry Soup at 1900 Park Fare For a princess breakfast you and your kiddos won’t soon forget, make an Advance Dining Reservation at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall! Here, you’re likely to meet Snow White, Belle, Ariel, and Aurora! Breakfast here includes some American eats, plus a Norwegian-inspired smorgasbord with meats and cheeses. Lunch and dinner include the Taste of Norway and Norwegian-inspired entrees. Traditional Kjottkake from Akershus Royal Banquet Hall Chef Mickey’s is a classic buffet option located in Disney’s Contemporary Resort featuring Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald — all typically dressed in their culinary finest! One of the best ways to cool down this summer will be Disney H2O Glow Nights at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, and we cannot wait to get the party started! With temperatures forecasted in the 90s all week long, it’s definitely starting to feel like summer at Disney Springs. For my fellow Floridians – or for anyone who plans to visit the sunshine state soon – I thought it might be helpful to share a round-up of a few of my favorite recent finds for the upcoming season: At Curl by Sammy Duvall, it’s no surprise to see a great array of swimsuits and trunks. But the pool accessories and floaties (including a flamingo-shaped drink holder) are completely unexpected, in the most delightful way! Of course, at Everything But Water, you can expect to discover bikinis and one pieces for women of all ages. But now, they have even more options for women of all sizes, too! Their extensive collection of D+ cup swimwear includes some newly-released designer exclusives. Francesca’s, one of my go-to staples for gifts and on-trend pieces, has a charming selection of cover ups, sandals, and accessories. My favorites: their assortment of beach bags and hats … so many options to choose from. Steps away at Havaianas, it’s a flip-flop lovers’ paradise. No matter what your color preference, chances are you’ll find what you’re looking for. If you need something extra-specific, you can customize your own pair for a one-of-a-kind find. While there are so many things to love at Shore, their summer styles for men made me want to book a weekend at the beach with my guy. James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano will debut his newest dining concept, Terralina Crafted Italian, on June 28. Situated along the shores of Lake Buena Vista, this exciting addition to the vibrant culinary scene at Disney Springs was inspired by the lifestyle of Italy’s Lake District and will offer authentic Italian flavors, spirits, and lakefront views. Chef Mantuano, former contestant on Top Chef Masters who is internationally respected for his role in defining true Italian cuisine, collaborated with Executive Chef Justin Plank to create the new menu. Showcasing tastes that are both familiar and new, the menu offers traditional Italian dishes – House-made Lasagna and Parmesan Duo with chicken and eggplant – in addition to specialty creations for the table like House-made Porchetta with a spicy-sweet Apple Mostarda and Slow-roasted Beef Short Rib with Honey-Balsamic Glaze. Other favorites include wood-fired pizzas, Bucatini with Clams and, from the grill, Center-cut Pork Chop with Creamy Polenta and Swordfish Peperonatta with roasted peppers. Although busy with the opening, Chef Mantuano took the time to sit down with us for this Q&A: You are leading the concept and vision for Terralina Crafted Italian – what are you most excited about? Seeing the restaurant come to life. We completely altered the entire space – the kitchen is now center stage and we added a wood-burning oven and charcoal grill. With the focus on the heart of the kitchen, dishes will embody the passion and fire of the flames. How would you describe the atmosphere of Terralina Crafted Italian? Relaxed and welcoming. It is inspired by the design and lifestyle of Italy’s Lake District – transporting guests to the shores of Italy. We expanded the outdoor dining area to include a veranda bar overlooking Riverboat Square to take advantage of the sweeping waterfront views. How would you describe the menu? Approachable. We stay true to the Italian spirit and culture. When I had the opportunity to apprentice in Italy, the chefs were so generous in sharing their talent and culinary techniques. I feel I owe it to them to represent the cuisine in the truest sense possible. What do you anticipate to be a Guest favorite on the new menu? Definitely the Antipasti Tower with its unique visual presentation. We went “vertical” with this display of cured meats, artisanal cheeses, and house-made pickled vegetables with pecorino truffle potato chips – the perfect appetizer to share with family and friends. Any returning fan favorites from the Portobello Country Italian menu? Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, hand-tossed pizza, and house-made pastas will again be on the menu. But Italian cuisine is much more than tomato sauce – and we want the food to jump off the plate with layers of flavors based on ingredients and cooking methods. The addition of the wood-burning oven and charcoal grill takes the dishes to the next level. Your thoughts on this evolution of Disney Springs? In the over 12 years I have been involved with Portobello Country Italian and now Terralina Crafted Italian, the evolution has been amazing – attracting top culinary talent, many of which are good friends. It has truly become a dining destination for locals and vacationers. Which Disney Character would your family and friends say you are most like and why? I think they would say Mickey Mouse. Like Mickey, I am positive and appreciate the people and talent on my team. I give my team leeway to make decisions and, in turn, build trust. We’ve been super busy all over Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure showing you — among everything on the Pier — the new snack kiosks which include Señor Buzz Churros, Poultry Palace, Angry Dogs, and Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums! Pixar Pier Billboard But there’s one more kiosk to visit. And though technically it’s not brand new — as it opened in early May, prior to the rest of Pixar Pier — we’d be remiss if we didn’t bring you back to Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats, as it is very much a part of the snacking scene on Pixar Pier! Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats The Adorable Snowman — as established by the name — serves up frosted treats. Soft-serve options include the following flavors: It’s Lemon!, It’s Chocolate!, and It’s Vanilla!, with the chance for swirling, too. Adorable Snowman Menu Specialty items feature Soda Floats and It’s Snow-Capped Lemon. And, the fairest of them all, in my opinion: the Pixar Pier Frosty Parfait. Pixar Pier Frosty Parfait This unusually photogenic treat takes the It’s Lemon soft-serve (which, if you haven’t heard by now, just happens to be Lemon Dole Whip), and layers it with Blue Raspberry Slush and places a cherry on top for a colorful creation. I just love it — so I have a built-in bias for just about everything here, honestly. But, it should be noted that you really do need to enjoy that sour pucker for any of the It’s Lemon! treats. And if you’re anything like me, the fact that those treats are in the majority is really good news for you, too! And also in that case , here’s another for ya… It’s Snow-Capped Lemon is dipped in white chocolate on the top, which mellows out the strong citrus a bit. This one is my FAVORITE! It’s Snow-Capped Lemon In any case, lemon lovers can find plenty to enjoy here! And if you’d rather just grab yourself a classic chocolate or vanilla soft-serve… then, hey. If you love fried chicken, Disneyland Resort has you covered! To express your love for this delicious dish and in honor of National Fried Chicken Day on July 6, you’re invited to join in on the fun during the inaugural Fried Chicken Celebration, taking place July 6-8. Fried Chicken can be found in two locations at the Disneyland Resort: Plaza Inn at Disneyland park and Flo’s V8 Café in Disney California Adventure park. Both restaurants are fan-favorite dining experiences, serving their unique take on this all-American specialty! So what’s the big deal about our fried chicken? The Plaza Inn, formerly known as the Red Wagon Inn, has been feeding Disneyland park guests since opening day. Walt Disney’s wife Lillian handpicked many of the restaurant’s authentic 19th-century interior furnishings, creating a lavish Victorian setting. The restaurant’s signature chicken plate features three pieces of herb-seasoned fried chicken served with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and a buttermilk biscuit. Chef Jonny Hall, culinary director at Disneyland park, explains “our [Plaza Inn] sweet and savory brined chicken is lightly coated in a secret flour blend of garlic and spices, then fried under pressure to create a delicate and magical crunch. This simple approach known as ‘broasting’ results in a distinct deep golden brown color and crispy exterior, and an unbelievably juicy interior.” Flo’s V8 Café is a Route 66-inspired diner set in the middle of Cars Land. This nostalgic pit stop features automotive touches, including vintage-style gas pumps and tailpipe light fixtures! Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken is served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, gravy and seasonal vegetables. Chef John State, culinary director at Disney California Adventure park, shares “our [Flo’s V8 Cafe] chicken sings of toasted flour and notes of a rich egg batter scented with prominent ground black pepper spice. If there’s one thing I’d want you to know about me, it’s how much I love the United States of America. I have a framed copy of the Declaration of Independence on my desk that’s displayed alongside other patriotic décor, I read about American history in my free time, I’ve watched The American Adventure at Epcot an astonishing number of times, and the Fourth of July is of course my favorite holiday. So I’m extremely excited to share with you the special photo opportunities Disney PhotoPass Service will offer those celebrating Independence Day at Walt Disney World Resort! Let’s start with the photo opportunities that will be available at Magic Kingdom Park. The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History is an extremely interesting and entertaining reenactment about the founding of America! On July 3 and 4, a Disney PhotoPass photographer will be periodically located near Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square, so drop by and be sure to ask for a Magic Shot featuring the stars of the show. On the Fourth of July while you’re soaking in the spirit of America in Liberty Square, visit the Disney PhotoPass photographer located near the replica of the Liberty Bell to take star-spangled photos that celebrate the nation’s birthday. A grand holiday such as this deserves a grand photo op! Cinderella’s Coach will be in Fantasyland all day on July 3 and 4, and a Disney PhotoPass photographer will be there to capture a photo of you in front of it. Once it’s completely dark on the evenings of July 3 and 4, head to Fantasyland where you’ll find this dazzling photo opportunity next to Ariel’s Grotto! Thanks to the unconventional way this photo is captured, every photo is unique. Stop by to see what yours will look like! Over at Disney Springs, visit the Disney PhotoPass Studio in the Marketplace where you’ll find special red, white and blue virtual backdrops. While this location offers a variety of Disney-themed virtual backdrops year-round, these patriotic backdrops will only be available now through July 7. And finally, at all four theme parks on the Fourth of July, select photographers will have this festive prop celebrating the Stars and Stripes that you can include in your photos.
