Dave Hartmann knows a thing or two about the Fairways course at Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf. He’s worked there since January 2007, but more impressively Dave has played the course more than 557 times, and he has every scorecard to prove it. Dave also held the official course record of 47 on the 72-par course for 11 years, but that came with a lot of practice. After discovering the course and shooting a 90, a score he was not happy with, Dave returned to the Fairways Miniature Golf Course every time he was on vacation in the area from 1996 to 2003 to work on his game. Dave played it so much, in fact, he was offered a job by the course manager. Although Dave’s curiosity and pursuit of perfection led him to Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf, it’s his interactions with cast and guests that keep him there. He’s become somewhat of a local legend and a lot of regulars request him to join them and provide tips. “What keeps me coming back is the chance to spend time with people,” he says. “I enjoy going out and talking with the people on the course, and we have a lot of fun. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has been undergoing renovations since January 2017. Many of these renovations have had a direct impact on guests staying at the resort including restaurant closures and room closures as well as construction noise and detours. Let’s take a look at where we stand now. Construction Let’s start with the cause of most of the construction — the addition of the Disney Skyliner System and Disney’s Riviera Resort. For an idea of where these are located and how these are impacting Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort take a look at this map showing the Skyliner system route and Disney’s Riviera Resort location. Disney Skyliner Route Map Disney’s Riviera Resort Disney’s Riviera Resort will be a Disney Vacation Club resort. It is expected to open in the fall of 2019 – probably not coincidentally, the same timeline as the opening of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge land in Hollywood Studios. Plus, this new resort is on the Skyliner route as well connecting it to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. As announced at the D23 Expo in 2017 the resort will have 300 rooms and a rooftop restaurant that will provide diners with a view of Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Disney’s Riviera Resort Concept Art ©Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Barbados and Martinique Sections Demolished The Barbados and Martinique sections of the resort were demolished to make room for the Disney’s Riviera Resort. Construction of this building can be seen from Buena Vista Drive. Dining at Caribbean Beach Resort For guests at Caribbean Beach Resort right now, you can order from a food truck, buffet dine in a temporary tent, or dine at Spyglass Grill. Food Truck in New Food Area If selecting the food truck you place your order and receive a pager. Then grab a seat in the climate controlled tent. Your meal is delivered to you by a cast member who also has a cart with them with silverware, napkins, and condiments. Seating in Temporary Food Area Spyglass Grill is in the Trinidad South pool area, with a patio overlooking Barefoot Bay. They offer classic American food with a Caribbean twist. Breakfast items include Cream Cheese Guava-stuffed French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, and a Breakfast Cuban Sandwich. Lunch and Dinner options include Chorizo Burger, Smoked Turkey Breast Sandwich, or a Crispy Yuca Vegetable Bowl. Plus Spyglass Grill is now on the Mobile Order System. You can order your meal through the My Disney Experience App from your room, the pool, wherever you are, but you DO have to go to Spyglass to pick up your food. Breakfast Cuban and Cream Cheese and Guava French Toast ©Disney The Banana Cabana Pool Bar at the Fuentes del Morro Pool is also under refurbishment. If you’re looking for a quick snack or cold drink there are Island Markets in the Aruba, Jamaica and Martinique buildings. These are converted resort rooms in each building that now offer items such as yogurt parfaits, pastries, sandwiches, salads, fruit and cold beverages. Also – if you’re looking for the usual resort shop you won’t find one here per se. What you will find are temporary merchandise trucks/carts that have sundries and some souvenirs. New Dining Coming to Caribbean Beach Resort A new food court and Sebastian’s Bistro will open soon. No firm date has been given. It was originally scheduled for summer of 2018, but we think those opening dates will slide into the fall of this year. New Entrance to Caribbean Beach Resort When all of the construction is complete the entrance to the Caribbean Beach Resort will move from Buena Vista Drive to Victory Way. Disney Skyliner Construction at Caribbean Beach Resort We recently updated you on the impact of the construction of the Hollywood Studios Skyliner station construction. This project is also impacting Caribbean Beach Resort. Skyliner concept art ©Disney Caribbean Beach and Riviera Resort will each have their own Skyliner station. Along the route are Skyliner Towers that carry the cables for the Skyliner. These towers can be seen going up all over the property along this route. Just yesterday we let you know about two additional restaurants now utilizing Mobile Order at Disneyland Resort: Tiki Juice Bar (hello, Dole Whip!) and Bayside Brews. Tiki Juice Bar’s Dole Whip Float! And now additional Mobile Order locations are on the way, all in Disneyland Park proper! Harbour Galley is already on the active list, meaning a Lobster Roll is just a couple minutes away! The Harbour Galley And in September, four more quick service locations will being to offer the time-saving service. Locations include Edelweiss Snacks, Stage Door Café, Refreshment Corner, and Royal Street Veranda! In DinoLand U.S.A. you can dig for bones in the Boneyard, sing along at “Finding Nemo – The Musical” or soar high on TriceraTop Spin. The debut of Donald’s Dino-Bash! brings loads of new character greetings to DinoLand U.S.A. There’s also a chance to shake your tail feathers with Chip ‘n Dale during a late afternoon dance party celebrating Donald’s discovery that ducks are actually descendants of dinosaurs. Who knew? The DFB Team tried every item at the Festival to show you the items you can’t miss! Be sure to click over to our Marketplace Booth Page to see pictures of every single dish at the Festival. Maple Bourbon Boursin Cheesecake AND Blueberry Wine at The Cheese Studio The Cheese Studio doesn’t disappoint with the Maple Bourbon Boursin Cheesecake. Maple Bourbon Boursin Cheesecake This creamy, decadent treat is made better-than-your-usual-cheesecake (and that’s saying something!!) thanks to that hint of bourbon in the caramel sauce. BUT, the Sparkling Blueberry Wine by Florida Orange Groves Winery also came as a surprise! Blueberry Wine The berry flavors gave an already cool, refreshing sip something truly extra. Find them both at The Cheese Studio! Teriyaki Chicken Bun at Japan The Teriyaki Chicken Bun at the Japan Booth is filled with chicken, bits of veggies, and mildly sweet teriyaki sauce. Teriyaki Chicken Bun And, of course, it’s all tucked in a super soft steamed bun! Teriyaki Chicken Bun Waff-Ale at Craft Drafts The hint of sweetness in the Waff-Ale at Craft Drafts makes this a memorable brew. But the sweetness isn’t so overwhelming that it doesn’t still taste like a great, solid beer. It’s like a breakfast beer, according to our tasters. Beer Flight 1 We enjoyed it as part of one of the two Beer Flights at Craft Drafts, but it can also be ordered on its own. Phosphorescent Phreeze and RGB Flight at Light Lab The non-alcoholic Phosphorescent Phreeze at the Light Lab is not only an ice cold, fruity refresher (served in air conditioning, no less!)… Phosphorescent Phreeze You also get to keep the Light Lab beaker! But the best part is that you receive a little decoder with this drink, so you (or your kiddos!) can solve the puzzle of what the flavor layers in the drink are! Light Lab Decoder Served with Phosphorescent Phreeze What’s an RGB Flight (also found at Light Lab)? Why, it’s red, green, and blue! RGB Flight Red Cherry Tart, Green Kiwi Blonde (made with kiwi puree), and Blue-berry Golden Ale make up this super fun assortment! Butternut Squash Ravioli at Wine and Dine Studio Welcome the flavors of autumn with the Butternut Squash Ravioli at Wine and Dine Studio! Butternut Squash Ravioli Yep, you can pretty much get a trendy Butternut Squash Ravioli just about anywhere these days, but the flavors in this one — a sweet and sour Brown Butter Vinaigrette along with a strong Parm cheese — make it a little extra special. Moosehead Radler at Canada The Moosehead Radler at the Canada Booth infuses refreshing fruit flavors into this iconic Canadian lager. Moosehead Radler You can pick up on the grapefruit, grape and lemon juices… while you’re pairing it with your famous Le Cellier Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon at the same booth . Carbonade de Boeuf and St. Germain Sparkling Kir at France We were a little surprised to learn that the Bouef Bourguignon would not return to France this year. Carbonade de Boeuf, Purée de Pommes de Terre But France isn’t going to let us go without a meat and potatoes dish at Food and Wine, and we really enjoyed the new Carbonade de Boeuf. Beer-braised beef with BACON! And we still get mashed potatoes with it! Score! Another standout — the lovely and highly recommended St-Germain Sparkling Kir with St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur and sparkling wine here is refreshing. St. Germain Sparkling Kir Moqueca Brazilian Seafood Stew at Brazil A hearty addition to the menu at Brazil, the Moqueca stew features Scallops, Shrimp and White Fish with Coconut-lime Sauce and Steamed Rice. Moqueca Brazilian Seafood Stew This traditional dish is a stand-out! Mango Lassi at India BACK AGAIN in the Best of the Fest! At India, the Mango Lassi is refreshingly chilled for those hot jaunts around Epcot’s World Showcase. Mango Lassi Non-alcoholic, this beverage is fun for the whole family; and our team has loved it for years! Kalua Pork Slider and Teriyaki-Glazed Spam Hash at Hawai’i Aloha! Served with with Sweet and Sour DOLE® Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise, the Kalua Pork Slider is once again a favorite festival pick from Hawai’i! Kalua Pork Slider You’ll love the blend of sweet and spice! Next up, we had to include that Teriyaki-Glazed Spam Hash again. Unexpected, sure — but apparently we have a thing for packaged lunchmeat. Teriyaki-Glazed Spam Hash Boasting a combination of Potatoes, Peppers, Onions and Spicy Mayonnaise, your stop at the Hawai’i Marketplace should include this dish! Steakhouse Blended Burger at Earth Eats The Steakhouse Blended Burger at Earth Eats is a great addition. Steakhouse Blended Burger The blend in the name mixes beef and wild mushroom, and tops it with a creamy brie fondue and even a blue cheese potato chip — which is the real flavor powerhouse. (The Impossible Burger is also here for vegetarians!) Kung Fu Punch in China The vodka and triple sec that make up the returning Kung Fu Punch at the China Marketplace make this drink as strong as it is tasty. Kung Fu Punch Don’t say we didn’t warn ya ! Fromosa and Tropical Mimosa at Shimmering Sips Mimosa Bar The new Shimmering Sips Mimosa Bar is FOR SURE the place to start your day! (It opens at 9 AM in the Festival Center!) Our team was pretty addicted to the Fromosa — a frozen Mimosa made with White Claw Lime Hard Seltzer. This tasted a lot like a daiquiri to me…but I only had three of them. Fromosa And the Tropical Mimosa is a wonderful twist on the classic. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Madras mimosa or the Blood Orange (a little bitter), but the Tropical and the Key Lime were outstanding. Shimmering Sips Mimosa Bar Mimosas Poutines at Refreshment Port You knew it was coming, didn’t you? It’s POUTINE TIME at the Refreshment Port! Refreshment Port Poutine Choose from traditional cheese curds with brown gravy (a standard at the Port), the new autumnal Sweet Potato Poutine, and the new Beef Brisket Poutine. Or don’t choose anything and just GET. THEM. ALL! OK, I’ll be honest here and say that the new versions didn’t wow me. The Sweet Potato Poutine with caramel sauce and marshmallows is sweet on sweet on sweet. Which usually, you know, I love. But…well this was just a little over the top. And while the brisket and cheese option was good, it didn’t come close to the flavor and textures that make the traditional poutine my winner. So…get them all if that’s your jam, or stick to traditional. I’m in favor of either. Baked Shrimp Scampi Dip at Coastal Eats Get a load of the Baked Shrimp Scampi Dip returning to Coastal Eats! As I said in my instagram story…I will 100% give this shrimp scampi dip my phone number ANY DAY. Baked Shrimp Scampi Dip with Sourdough Baguette Think about the most amazing alfredo sauce meets cheese dip you’ve ever seen…and then add even MORE flavor. And there’s buttery sourdough bread for dipping. So…yay. Just get it. Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Dip and Banana Almond Soft-serve Sundae at The Almond Orchard The Almond Orchard gets THREE winners this year! The Creamy Spinach and Artichoke Dip (there’s pulled chicken in there, too, but you don’t really even need it) is totally addicting, and comes with plenty of Nut Thins® to spoon it all up. Creamy Spinach and Artichoke Dip The Banana Almond Soft-Serve Sundae comes back for year two, and it’s just as tasty. The thing that lands this on the best of the fest list is the fun frozen banana flavor (kiddos will like it; parents will, too), the huge serving size, and the yummy crunchy chocolaties. Which I’m sure is the technical name for them. Banana Almond Soft-serve Sundae Mariachi Loco and El Padrino at Mexico We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. You should NEVER miss the Mexico Booth! And this year? That’s due to two beverages, in particular. The Mariachi Loco margarita is comprised of Libelula Tequila Joven, mango purée and Chamoy. It’s sweet meets heat in the best possible way. Mariachi Loco And the El Padrino is a Blackberry Mexican Punch made with Velo Blanco Tequila. There’s a depth of flavor here, so don’t write it off as spiked punch from your youth, my friends. El Padrino Cheers! Fritto Misto at Italy The Fritto Misto is something to look forward to at the Italy Booth this year! Fritto Misto Crispy shrimp, zucchini and sweet potatoes are fried up and covered in a slightly spicy sauce with a kick! The Italy booth delivers with this dish this year! Plus, the Italian Margarita remains one of my all-time favorite Food and Wine drinks, so grab that one, too! Guinness Baileys Shake and BASICALLY ALL THE MENU ITEMS at the Ireland Booth It won our hearts (and tastebuds) at the Food and Wine Festival Preview, so we’re SO glad to say that the Guinness Baileys Shake at the Ireland Booth is every bit as tasty here at the Festival! Guinness Bailey’s Shake Get ready to join the line for this one even if you think you’re not all that into the taste of Guinness. The most pronounced flavor here is chocolate…and Baileys…just, you know, with a kick! PLUS.. we’re loving the mini serving glass! The truth is, though, that Ireland is a booth is packed full of all good things. Both new and returning favorites make our list this year, like the Roasted Irish Sausage with Colcannon Potatoes and Onion Gravy, and the delicious Warm Irish Cheddar Cheese and Stout Dip with Irish Brown Bread. Roasted Irish Sausage with Colcannon Potatoes and Onion Gravy Warm Irish Cheddar Cheese and Stout Dip with Irish Brown Bread This booth is the best bang for your buck in my opinion, but note that it’s all pretty heavy food…so hard to eat on these SUPER HOT days. But this one will be great once it starts to get a little cooler. Corned Beef at Flavors from Fire We’re so glad the Smoked Corned Beef at Flavors from Fire is back! Corned Beef from Flavors from Fire That’s as much due to the tender corned beef as it is to the accompaniments: crispy potatoes, pickled onions and Blonde Ale Beer Fondue featuring BelGioioso® Romano and American Grana Cheeses! Seriously amazing flavor…you MUST get this one. Loaded Mac ‘n’ Cheese at Active Eats We don’t know what we’d do if the Loaded Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Nueske’s® Pepper Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Peppers and Green Onions didn’t return to the Festival. It’s on our best of the fest list in perpetuity. Loaded Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Nueske’s® Pepper Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Peppers and Green Onions You’ll find it at Active Eats. Canadian Cheddar Cheese and Bacon Soup at Canada Though you’ve been able to find the beloved Canadian Cheddar Cheese and Bacon Soup at Refreshment Port for the last several months, it’s back home at Canada for the Festival! Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup with Pretzel Roll Freshly Baked Carrot Cake and Cream Cheese Icing at Hops & Barley Is it the Freshly Baked Carrot Cake or the Cream Cheese icing that makes this Hops & Barley classic so completely awesome every year? Freshly Baked Carrot Cake and Cream Cheese Icing Okay, who are we kidding? It’s totally the gooey, oozing icing. But that cake sure isn’t bad, either and we won’t go a year without it! LOVE YOU CARROT CAKE! Dole Whip at Refreshment Port Dole Whip. In Epcot. With or without Bacardi Coconut Rum. At the Refreshment Port. Dole Whip There ya go! We still have a few weeks to go in the 2018 Major League Baseball season, but if you’re already looking ahead to next year, I have good news – the Atlanta Braves 2019 Spring Training schedule has been released and there are some marquee games that will take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort that you definitely don’t want to miss. Atlanta will play a total of 16 home games at Champion Stadium against top MLB contenders like the 2017 World Champion Houston Astros (Mar. 4, Mar. 17), New York Yankees (Mar. 18), New York Mets (Feb. 26, Mar. 23) and St. Louis Cardinals (Mar. 12). This will be Atlanta’s 22nd and final season of spring training at Disney and the Braves will play at Champion Stadium for the last time Mar. 23, against the Mets. Next spring will be your last chance to come out and watch the Braves and experience the magic of spring training at Disney, which features character appearances and special moments including kids running the bases and other in-game entertainment that have made Braves Spring Training at Disney a grand slam. He’s the star of the new family-friendly roller coaster inside Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Slinky Dog Dash. On this day last year, we revealed the ride vehicle for the new coaster. Guess who’s coming to Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge? Snow White, Grumpy, and Dopey will all be greeting guests as part of the brand new Storybook Dining at Artist Point! Snow White and Dopey ©Disney Oh, and guests will have the chance to encounter someone else, too… The Evil Queen ©Disney Artist Point will transition from its current Table Service Signature dining experience into Storybook Dining this winter. Artist Point Guests will enter an “Enchanted Forest-like setting” inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Guests will also enjoy visits from Snow White, Grumpy, and Dopey during their themed prix fixe meal which will include starters, individually plated entrees, and “sweet spells.” (How exactly The Queen will make her appearance has yet to be revealed.) We still await many details such as opening date, when Advance Dining Reservations can be made, specific menu items, Disney Dining Plan entitlements, and more. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in Disneyland in the summer of 2019 and in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in late fall of 2019. And Black Spire Outpost — the village on the Planet of Batuu that we as guests will visit — will serve up drinks and entertainment at Oga’s Cantina! No self-respecting remote outpost on the edge of the galaxy would call itself a smuggler’s planet without a cantina, and Black Spire Outpost is no exception. Today, I’m pleased to share more details for Oga’s Cantina, which will be serving pilots, bounty hunters, smugglers, locals and galactic travelers alike, when it opens in 2019. Visitors come to this notorious local watering hole to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, the cantina adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check. But with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell. Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using “otherworldly” methods, served in unique vessels. Mobile ordering captured the attention – and hungry tummies – of Disneyland Resort guests when it launched earlier this year with 15 fast casual and quick-service restaurant locations across Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park. And over the next few weeks, the convenient service will be added to seven more locations! Starting today, guests can use mobile ordering to purchase their favorite food and beverage options from Bayside Brews at Disney California Adventure park, as well as Harbour Galley and Tiki Juice Bar at Disneyland park. This includes using mobile order to pick up the legendary Dole Whip! There will be even more choices next month when mobile ordering expands to Edelweiss Snacks, Stage Door Café, Refreshment Corner and Royal Street Veranda at Disneyland park. How does ordering a classic lobster roll from Harbour Galley to pick up before watching “Fantasmic!” sound? Using the Disneyland App, simply search for a participating location, select an arrival time window for pickup, choose items from the menu and place an order. It can be found at the Wine & Dine Studio Marketplace also located in Future World. And if you’re feeling thirsty, you can stop by the brand-new Shimmering Sips Mimosa Bar, which can be found in the Festival Center. The Madras Mimosa is the perfect morning pick-me-up, especially when it’s paired with a Chocolate or Almond Croissant or a Cheese Danish with Sweet Icing. While you’re enjoying the festival, why not commemorate your visit with a magical array of limited-edition special event merchandise? This year, specially-designed merchandise will let you recreate the tasting-around-the-world experience at home. Last summer, the Minnie Van personal ride service debuted to offer guests eye-catching rides throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. Now, guests staying at any Walt Disney World Resort hotel can also use Minnie Vans for travel to and from Orlando International Airport. Whereas Minnie Van transportation on property can be arranged through the Lyft app, Minnie Vans airport shuttle service reservations must be made by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. The service is available to guests staying at any Walt Disney World Resort hotel.
