Earlier this week, we shared the exciting update that our new Disney Skyliner gondola system will be operating at the Walt Disney World Resort in fall of 2019. Today, we’ve got more to share – a first look at one of the actual gondolas! Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek unveiled the gondola to Disney fans during D23’s Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse event. And as you can see, Disney Skyliner will be fun and offer a new way to experience Walt Disney World Resort with amazing views only available from the sky. Once operating, the gondola system will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort as well as the proposed 15th Disney Vacation Club property, Disney’s Riviera Resort. And select gondolas will have iconic Disney characters incorporated into their exterior design to give the appearance that a Disney pal is riding along with guests, such as characters from the ‘Fab Five,’ figures from Disney attractions, fan favorites from movies, and more. Need a chocolate fix? The Ganachery at Disney Springs has a few new holiday offerings you won’t want to miss! Holiday Ganache As part of the Holidays at Disney Springs, The Ganachery is on the long list of shops and restaurants featuring new seasonal items. Read on to learn more about the special holiday treats you can expect to find, plus our review of the seasonal ganache flavors! Holiday Ganache The Ganachery is, of course, known for their chocolate ganache! There are three special holiday flavors on the menu this year: Candy Cane, Dark Chocolate Snowflake, and Eggnog. Holiday Ganache The ganaches are little chocolate squares that are soft and decadent. The Dark Chocolate Snowflake flavor is the same Dark Chocolate ganache the shop carries year-round, but it has been dressed-up with pretty snowflake art for the holidays. If you’re a dark chocolate fan, go for the Dark Chocolate Snowflake or the Candy Cane. The peppermint flavor in the Candy Cane ganache is very subtle, and the deep, dark chocolate flavor really shines. The Eggnog ganache has a creamy, rich flavor. You’ll definitely taste strong eggnog and a hint of bourbon. (Pssst: the Coffee ganache isn’t a holiday exclusive, but if you like coffee and you like chocolate, get it.) Sweets from the Ganachery The Ganachery’s packaging is fantastic, too! It totally makes you feel like you’re getting a special little present to unwrap. Sweets from The Ganachery Peppermint Bark is also here for the holiday season! The combination of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and peppermint pieces is definitely on the nice list this year. Happily Ever After Whether you’re looking for dining, family fun, or even dancing into 2019, there’s something for everyone this year! New Year’s Eve Dinner at Flying Fish on Disney’s BoardWalk Flying Fish is celebrating the New Year with a with a multi-course, prix fixe menu with dishes such as Aged Cognac Lobster Bisque, Oak Grilled Cool Water Lobster, Chilean Sea Bass, Wild Alaskan King Blue Crab, and more. Dessert choices are Cocoa Beach (Chocolate Hazelnut Cake with Warm Ganache) or the Florida Sunset (Vanilla Custard with Lemon Broth, Segmented Fruits, and White Chocolate). Dance your way into 2019 at the Atlantic Dance Hall! There is limited availability for the dinner seatings at 8:45PM and 9:45PM. Monsieur Paul in Epcot’s France Pavilion The lunch seating times are: 12:00, 12:30, 2:00, 2:30, 4:00, 6:00, and 6:30PM. New Year’s Eve Dinner at World Showplace Pavilion in Epcot Ring in the New Year with a special dinner at Epcot’s World Showplace Pavilion! The event features a dinner buffet with something for everyone including Seafood Mac and Cheese with Butter-Toasted Panko, Fried Chicken Breast with Corn Gravy, gluten-friendly Oven Baked Cod with Tomatoes, Olives and Peppers, Demi Braised Beef with Mushrooms and Pearl Onions, and Apple Cider Brined Pork with Roasted Apples and Cherries. Epcot at Night Enjoy dinner while listening to Disney music and take some family photos by the unique vignettes just for the occasion. Epcot admission is required and is not included in the price. And if you’re headed to Disneyland Resort for New Year’s Eve, there are a couple options at Napa Rose in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. New Year’s Eve at Napa Rose Celebrate the New Year with either an “early dinner extravaganza” or a late dinner with dancing at Napa Rose. Napa Rose Lounge Guests can book a reservation between 5:00 and 6:30PM for a family New Year’s Eve dinner featuring Chef Andrew Sutton’s 4-course wine country feast. The late-night dinner party starts at 8:15PM and features a Napa-style 5-course tasting menu. The early dinner at Napa Rose is $140 per person, and the late dinner and gala is $300 per person. Destination D 2018 Let’s start with something HUGE coming to BOTH Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and let’s waste no time!! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in Disneyland in the summer of 2019 and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in late fall 2019. And we now know the names of possibly the two most highly anticipated attractions in Disney’s history! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will allow guests to take control of the Millennium Falcon in “one of three unique and critical roles.” Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run CHECK IT OUT!!! This will be part of celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Hollywood Studios. Wonderful World of Animation ©Disney The show will “use state-of-the-art projection technology to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself.” Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Progress continues on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Here’s just a small peek at some concept art for this upcoming fun adventure, which will feature Mickey in a full ride-through attraction for the first time! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway EPCOT Two New Nighttime Spectaculars The long-running nighttime spectacular, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will be wrapping its run in 2019. And now we have more details on what’s to follow! Epcot Nighttime Spectacular ©Disney As part of Epcot’s multi-year transformation, a brand new spectacular featuring massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers is on the way in 2020. New Pavilion Experiences It was also revealed that the name for the highly anticipated Ratatouille ride coming to the France Pavilion will be Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ©Disney Also in the France Pavilion, a new Beauty and the Beast singalong created by Don Hahn (producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films) will join the “Impressions de France” film as the Pavilion’s entertainment. And the O Canada Circlevision 360-degree show will be receiving an update, currently in progress. Disney’s Riviera Resort We’ve also got a look at Disney’s Riviera Resort, slated to open in fall of 2019. Here’s a roundup of what to expect: Enjoy the New “Wonderful World of Animation” Nighttime Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Bob unveiled news of an all-new cinematic nighttime experience, “Wonderful World of Animation,” which will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in May 2019 as part of the park’s 30th Anniversary celebration. The show will use state-of-the-art projection technology. to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself. (See rendering above). Experience Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Imagineers have been hard at work creating Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, using breakthrough technology to transform a two-dimensional cartoon into an amazing real-world experience. The first-ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse will feature a new original story and lovable theme song as it takes guests on a journey inside the wacky and unpredictable world of Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts. Just moments ago at D23’s Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared an exciting update on the multiyear transformation of Epcot, including details on new nighttime entertainment planned for the park and additions to World Showcase. Among the announcements were updates on a new nighttime spectacular planned to open at the park in 2020. This new show will celebrate how Disney music inspires people around the world, and will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers. But before that new show debuts, there will be a limited-time experience Epcot fans will love, called “Epcot Forever,” which will debut in fall 2019 and will feature classic Epcot tunes. “Epcot Forever” will begin with a spark of imagination that swells into an epic spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites. Bob also announced the name of the “Ratatouille” experience coming to the France pavilion, which will be called Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. He also shared that a new guest offering will soon debut at the France pavilion at World Showcase (in addition to “Impressions de France”) – a brand new “Beauty and the Beast” sing-along created by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films. Earlier today, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared some exciting news about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at D23’s Destination D event at Walt Disney World Resort. During his presentation, Bob shared two videos, which for the first time ever, revealed the names of the two major attractions that will be part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on opening day at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The first, entitled Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, puts guests behind the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy in one of three unique flight crew roles. Our second attraction, which puts guests in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order, is called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. As you can see from this video, which was shot in the actual attraction, both the stakes, and the excitement are running high in this epic Star Wars cliffhanger! These two new incredible experiences – paired with the land’s dynamic elements and optional interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app – invite guests to become galactic travelers and live their own Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away. But that’s not all! When you think about Star Wars, I’m sure that the iconic music of legendary composer John Williams comes to mind. Today, Bob shared more exciting news in that Oscar-winning composer John Williams is creating new and original Star Wars themes exclusively for the land! Bob shared a stirring preview of the all-new music, recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. And there’s so much more to do at this exotic outpost. The new Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill will open next month in Disney Springs. Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill will open in December! And today, we have a look at the menu for the Chef’s newest restaurant venture! At the time of publishing this post, lunch and dinner menus appear to be the same on the Disney World website, starting with To Share for the Whole Table — which includes Roasted Meatballs — and Appetizers and Salads featuring Tempura Calamari & Shrimp and Grilled Tandoori Chicken Wings. To Share and Appetizers Pizza and Panini appear next, including a Smoked Salmon Pizza and an Open-faced Caprese! It’s all things Mickey today as we celebrate his 90th birthday this weekend. There is so much specialty food to celebrate you can’t help but be happy! We stopped at the Gasparilla Island Grill in the Grand Floridian to try out Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake. This wins for maybe one of the cutest cupcakes we’ve seen so far. Plus the bow matches the spinning bow on the Glow Wands that you can get in the Magic Kingdom. Anytime our food can match a spinning glow wand we’re all in. ;-D We told you it was cute! Look at how the fondant decorations have a 3-D effect of them. That’s the detail we love to see in anything Disney does. Mickey’s 90th Birthday Cupcake This is a vanilla cupcake filled with a cookies and cream filling and topped with vanilla frosting. Those Mickey ears are chocolate (pretty sure it’s white chocolate that’s been colored black. Mickey’s 90th Birthday Cupcake This was an excellent option if you love thick, sugary frosting. This is the closest to lard-based frosting I’ve seen Disney get in a while, so it’s straight up birthday cake frosting. Like makes-your-teeth-ache kind of stuff. I loved it, but a LOT of you will think it’s way too sweet, so wanted to give you that heads up. The cookies and cream filling was forgettable. We also found this had a soggy bottom, and it wasn’t the first soggy bottomed cupcake we ran into this week. So strange, but the base of a couple of cupcakes I’ve had this visit have been completely soaking wet — and the cupcake wrappers themselves have been drenched at the bottom. No idea what could cause that, so if you’re a baker and can shed some light, let me know. It’s pretty gross. We’re hoping this is not a trend that continues through our trip or in the future with Disney cupcakes. (Any Great British Bake Off fans out there picturing Mary Berry not being impressed with this soggy bottom trend?) Earlier today, Mickey Mouse marked his 90th anniversary with a very special gathering in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park, which was televised live on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “Good Morning America” personalities Sam Champion and Ginger Zee joined Mickey on the Castle Forecourt stage, with Mickey debuting his new celebration outfit inside Magic Kingdom Park for the very first time. Ginger then introduced a surprise planned for Mickey Mouse by none other than Minnie Mouse, herself: a special gathering of all their pals at the park. A whopping total of 90 Disney characters then flooded in through Cinderella Castle to surprise Mickey to the tune of the new song, “It’s a Good Time.” Check out the video above to watch this historic moment. Also joining in on the celebration was Disney super fan Patrice Jenkins, whom “Good Morning America” had selected to accompany Ginger on a whirlwind trip to visit all six Disney theme park resorts around the world. The duo completed their journey arriving at Magic Kingdom Park, crossing the finish line for their epic journey on Main Street, U.S.A., just prior to Mickey’s celebration today. Mickey’s Birthday Cake Cupcake This is where you’ll find Mickey’s Birthday Cake Cupcake! And if “Birthday Cake Cupcake” sounds redundant, it’s actually a thoughtful choice of a name. That’s because this red velvet cupcake is further topped with a MINI BIRTHDAY CAKE! Mickey’s Birthday Cake Cupcake Filling the red velvet cake is chocolate buttercream, and the entire thing is topped with cream cheese buttercream icing, and white chocolate Mickey balloons as well. Mickey’s Birthday Cake Cupcake It’s a really yummy combination overall. I was totally impressed! But the real kicker is that mini birthday cake. It it so rare to find a fondant piece that’s actually tasty as well as decorative, but this bit of fruity fondant manages to accomplish both tasks.
