Early next year, Super Hero fans will flash back to the ‘90s when “Captain Marvel” opens in theaters on March 8, 2019, and for a limited time, Disneyland Resort guests will have the opportunity to encounter Captain Marvel herself. Captain Marvel will join an already-epic lineup of heroes appearing at Disney California Adventure park including Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, Spider-Man and Captain America. “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure that follows the journey of ace Air Force pilot Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the universe. When Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom. It’s available by the slice at $8.99 or as a whole pizza for $41.99. Space Dip Pizza Featuring Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Chicken, Capicola, and Assorted Cheeses, this definitely isn’t your standard pepperoni pizza! Just look at all those toppings! Space Dip Pizza Even though it sounds unusual, the Space Dip Pizza was REALLY GOOD! Like AWESOME! Super savory, lots of flavor…definitely on to get. We collected all the menu updates, merchandise introductions, refurbishment projects progress, and even more holiday eats right here for you! Hello from the Magic Kingdom! That’s a view that we could look at all day! Cinderella Castle, Fireworks, and Characters! Even Mickey is there — before his big day this weekend when he turns 90! What’s New on Magic Kingdom’s Main Street, U.S.A. We’ve been missing the Main Street, U.S.A. Popcorn Cart for several weeks now. We saw a random popcorn cart here one day, but it was only there for a day. “Oh, popcorn cart, when will you return to bring us our buttery, salty snack in an awesome bucket?” We’ll keep you posted! Main Street U.S.A. Popcorn Cart — Still Missing With Mickey’s Big Day coming up maybe they should re-name the specialty shake at the Plaza Restaurant the Birthday Shake instead of its proper name — the Un-Birthday Shake. This shake has been at the Plaza for a couple of months now — and it’s refillable! Plus, any sweet treat is even sweeter when it has Mickey ears on it! At the time we were told it was for the Halloween season only. However, on this visit we saw the orange cones are still available and asked about them. The cast member we spoke with did not think they were going away — so go ahead and enjoy your citrus swirl in an orange cone, as long as you can! Citrus Swirl in Orange Cone What’s New in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland Peco’s Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe jumped in on the “of-the-month” food specialty items this fall. This month’s Taco Trio of-the-Month is a Mojo Pork Taco with pickled onions, cilantro cream, and queso blanco. Peco’s Bill Taco Trio of-the-Month Tom Sawyer Island has been closed for refurbishment, and is still closed currently. It is expected to re-open in late-December. We spotted some fun new clutches, especially the Hitchhiking Ghosts clutch. It has a lenticular print on it that changes between two images, check it out! We’re loving the nod to Madame Leota’s room on the ride with the Harp as the zipper pull! Find all of these in Disneyland, too! Madame Leota Clutch Madame Leota Clutch What’s New in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland Finally, the tarps are down that were covering up Prince Charming’s Carousel! You now have a clean view of the Carousel and around Fantasyland. Prince Charming’s Carousel We were disappointed to see Pinocchio Village Haus does not have a Flatbread of the Month this month, but we spotted some changes to their menu while we were there. Cheese or Deluxe Strombolis have been added to their dinner menu. New flatbreads are on the menu including Meat Lovers, Gourmet Cheese, and Margherita. To make room for these new flatbreads the Sausage and Pepperoni and Caprese flatbreads have been removed from the menu. A Turkey Sandwich, Gourmet Cheese flatbread, and Pasta with a choice of Marinara or Butter are new options on the Kids Menu. Macaroni and Cheese, and the Cheese, and Sausage and Pepperoni flatbreads have been removed from the Kids Menu. If your kiddo is looking for Mac and Cheese you may want to consider Friar’s Nook, who just brought back their Mac and Cheese (with a Tater Tot twist). In addition to some fun Beauty and the Beast merchandise there’s also a target game kiddos can play while you’re in line waiting to meet the Best Looking Man Alive (in his own mind) — Gaston. New Merchandise Cart by Gaston’s Meet and Greet New Merchandise Cart by Gaston’s Meet and Greet Just in time for Thanksgiving feasting, Prince Eric’s Village Market has brought back the Turkey Leg! You can also grab a jumbo pretzel with cheese sauce (plastic cheese!) here. That means the Sweet Thai Chili Shrimp has been removed from the menu, but the Witch’s Brew is still available here. Plus, we saw some people with the Witch’s Brew and it had a rock candy covered straw — the same one that we got when we tried the Wonderland Slush last week! Prince Eric’s Village Market In Big Top Treats and the Confectionery they are offering a very Christmasy Red and Green slush! This is basically the Merry Berry slush that’s at Cosmic Ray’s for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. We don’t know how long this will be on the menu, but imagine through the holidays! It is still kind of a secret. Let us explain. Now there is a picture of the Galaxy Loaded Fries on the menu screens — but the menus never reference or list the fries! It is still a mobile order only item, it’s just kind of being advertised now. We’ll see if this not-quite secret trend continues. Galaxy Loaded Fries We were able to try the Christmas Cookie Sundae at Auntie Gravity’s. This is just one of the many items available during Christmas, but it was not available last week when we were at the Christmas Party. It’s a “christmas cookie” ice cream — which kind of tastes like cake batter — topped with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. Auntie Gravity’s Cookie Sundae What’s New in Magic Kingdom’s Stores! New Merchandise! How about these new ears? Are they Mardi Gras, or Princess Tiana, or both? We can’t decide. We know we love the beading and those magnificent feathers! We’ve shown you Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios (along with Toy Story Land) all dressed up for the season, now it’s time to highlight the Animal Kingdom. Their Christmas decorations are always fun to see as they incorporate themes from the park attractions and regions represented in the park. Plus, while we were taking in all the decorations we found some new menu updates as well as some must-have merchandise! Christmas Greetings from the Animal Kingdom Whether this is your first or 10th visit to Animal Kingdom during Christmas be sure to take some time to look at the ornaments on the tree at the entrance to the park. Christmas Wreath Last, but not least, is the Rainforest Cafe in Animal Kingdom that has decorated their entrance arch for Christmas. There’s just something that puts a smile on our face seeing a big-eyed frog look at us while surrounded by Christmas garland! Dining Information Stand In addition to the Christmas decorations above, Creature Comforts (Starbucks) is now serving a Pistachio Honey Croissant. We also spotted the Thanksgiving Turkey Cupcake in the bakery case too (read our review here)! We suspect that will be replaced with a Christmas cupcake soon! Now the Kids’ Menu is a create-your-own-meal menu. Kiddos get to choose one entree and two sides (called selections here). The meals also come with milk, water, or apple juice. What I love about Thanksgiving is that our family gathers for a day of eating and gratitude. We like to do our meal “potluck” style. It’s usually a mélange of dishes and about 100 desserts (ok, that is an exaggeration but it is quite a lot). Our designer, Jeff Maurer, captures the essence of this holiday get-together in his latest wallpaper. He combines a handful of unique fall patterns to create a harmonious image – much like how many of our tables will look! Cranberry Chocolate Mousse at Trolley Car Cafe You’ll find some rich chocolate cake on the bottom atop a cookie base smothered with a smooth cranberry-chocolate mousse on top. Yum! Over the summer, the award-winning, husband-and-wife songwriting team, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, took their daughters on an adventure they won’t soon forget – a Disney cruise to Alaska. Christmastime at Disney is dreamy, radiant and downright magical. The shimmering holiday décor, seasonal treats and enchanting entertainment create a winter wonderland like no other – especially during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park. This party brings back oh-so-many jolly memories for me and my family. There is a lot to take in with the sights, sounds, and scents of the season, but here are a handful of to do’s for preschool families during this special ticketed event: Take in the timeless Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade to get into the holiday spirit. Disney characters are all decked out for the celebration as they dance alongside gingerbread men, snowflakes, elves and even Santa himself. The parade winds down Main Street, U.S.A. twice nightly so try to get a comfortable spot for the 8:30 p.m. viewing. And while you are heading to the parade, try to spot all 147 wreaths and 40 trees that decorate the park. Yuletide treats sweeten the night. Be sure to sample the complimentary, festively decorated cookies and yummy hot cocoa offered at various locations. These are just right for little ones and you can even stash a few for late-night meltdowns. If you need a little more sugar, there are for-purchase treats only available during the party including a Mickey’s ornament gingerbread cookie and a chocolate yule log. There’s a 100 percent chance of snow flurries on Main Street, U.S.A. during the party. Preschoolers will delight as the first flakes of winter create merry moments and fabulous photo ops to keep the memories alive. Head to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland for the Club Tinsel Dance Party, or boogie over to Storybook Circus for the Disney Junior Jingle Jam. What a wonderful way for little ones to blow off some steam alongside favorite Disney pals while parents can soak in seasonal music and joyful ambiance. We just brought you the news that the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House is open in its new location, and now we’re back with reviews of a few of the holiday treats you can expect to find there this year! S’mores Cookie On the Gingerbread House’s opening day at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, we tried the Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake, Mickey Head Gingerbread Ornament, and S’mores Cookie. The Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake is made of spiced vanilla cake, cinnamon frosting, vanilla frosting, and apple filling. It’s $5.50 and eligible for for a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake The vanilla frosting is piped over the top of the cinnamon frosting, which made for a delicious combination. While there was a lot of frosting, it wasn’t too much. We love the artistic touches for each layer, too! Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake There wasn’t a ton of apple filling, but the flavor was strong and present throughout the whole cupcake. The apples were still slightly crisp, too, which added a really nice texture! Honestly, we loved this one. (We’ve been having some good luck with apple cupcakes this season — check out the Apple Cupcake and Not-so-Poison Apple Cupcake reviews!) Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake Isn’t this Mickey Gingerbread Ornament beautiful? It’s made from the classic Austrian Lubkuchen gingerbread recipe. Each one costs $10. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament Decorated by hand, each cookie is unique and spectacular. You’ll find dozens of colors, textures, and artistic touches! In addition to the Mickey head, a Nutcracker shape is also available. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament These cookies are designed to be ornaments, so they’re thick and sturdy. You *can* eat it if you’d like to, but we don’t recommend it. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament So, if you’re going to use your Mickey Gingerbread Ornament to decorate, get one. They’re beautiful, and your home will smell sooo good. But if you’re looking for a treat to actually eat, we suggest choosing from the dozens of other items available at the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament Last but not least: the S’mores Cookie. These little babies were popular! In fact, they sold out within the first hour of the Gingerbread House being open. It’s not hard to see why: S’mores Cookie Imagine an extra-large, extra-thick chocolate chip cookie (YES THESE ARE TOTALLY JACK-JACK’s COOKIE NUM NUMS!) topped with toasted marshmallows and miniature M&Ms. It’s $5 and Disney Dining Plan snack credit-eligible. S’mores Cookie If you were thinking that sounds amazing, you’re right! The cookie was the perfect combination of chewy and crunchy. The toasted marshmallows were decadently gooey, and the mini M&Ms added a nice crunch. Be warned, though: the marshmallows make this S’mores Cookie especially sticky. (It’s worth it.) S’mores Cookie The S’mores Cookie and Apple-Cinnamon cupcake were amazing. Can’t decide between chocolate, a cookie, and marshmallow? Get the S’mores Cookie. Completed Grand Californian The pastry chefs at the Grand Californian aren’t messing around with their holiday offerings; the list of treats is small but mighty! You’ll find classic gingerbread alongside whoopie pies and truffles. Yup: there’s something for everyone! Holiday Treats Crispy (Krispie!) Treats and Cake Pops are dressed to the nines for the holiday season and packaged with satin bows, making them totally stocking-worthy, if you feel like sharing. Krispie (Crispy) Treats and Cake Pops But we can bet you won’t want to share this creative and colorful Mickey Whoopie Pie! It’s all (candy) lit up! Mickey Whoopie Pie In between two green-colored cake pieces is a load of buttercream and holiday sprinkles. We love this design! Mickey Whoopie Pie The Snowman Cookie is simple — but simple works when it comes to a nostalgic holiday treat! You can see a review of it on our Jolly Holiday post! Snowman Cookie The Mickey Holiday Cookie is another cute option. He’s got chocolate-dipped ears, red icing, festive sprinkles, and a swirl of frosting that sort of mimics the edge of Santa’s hat. Holiday Mickey Cookie The Snowflake Cookie is about as glamorous as a holiday treat can be. It’s covered from edge to edge with white and blue glittery sprinkles, with three candy snowflakes for added measure. Elsa would totally be down for this cookie. Snowflake Cookie The Peppermint Loaf Cake looks downright indulgent, covered with thick chocolate frosting and tons of sprinkles. Peppermint Loaf Cake The Grand Californian Holiday Treats stop also offers two items that would be fantastic souvenirs, gifts, or treats for the holiday table. The Holiday Cookie Box contains a selection of beautiful cookies.
