Look at what we found in Disneyland’s California Adventure! The perfect pairing — Toffee and Churros! Are you wondering how they blended these two treats together? Wonder no longer, we’ve got all the details for you here! Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street A stop in Trolley Treats Candy Shop on Buena Vista Street rewarded us with this brand new find! Thanks to our instagram friend @aaadventureisoutthere for bringing our attention to it! Sitting there in the window was the “New Arrival” Churro Toffee. Churro Toffee The treat is golden and coated in cinnamon sugar, like a churro… Churro Toffee …and it’s actually wrapped in a flaky pastry crust! Inside is a buttery, crunchy square of toffee that was, no joke, one of the best things we’ve eaten in Disneyland this week by far! Churro Toffee We were so excited to find this treat — and you’ve gotta have it! You should be able to find it at Trolley Treats, and hopefully it will migrate to Candy Palace soon, too. We’re getting ready to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Mickey Mouse! All over the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, specialty treats will be available to mark the very special occasion. Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake If you’ve perused the list of all of the snacks on the way, you’ll notice that the treats are scheduled to be available throughout various locations all around Disney World from November 16th through 18th. However, Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort is getting ready to celebrate Mickey’s birthday a few days early with Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake, which is now available at Capt. Cook’s, the Resort’s quick service location! Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake is topped with a yellow-colored vanilla buttercream… and a mini “cupcake”! Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake Reaching for that mini cupcake – which, in actuality, is simply a white chocolate shell with more icing inside — is Mickey’s signature glove formed from white chocolate. Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake SO CUTE!! Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake The base is milk chocolate and inside is a thin layer of cherry and sweet cream icing serving as the filling. Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake Mickey’s Birthday Cupcake Aside from that, the cupcake is fairly basic, flavor-wise, while boldly showing off Mickey’s vivid colors… AND his penchant for sweet birthday treats! See ALL of the treats on the way for Mickey’s Birthday here!! And remember, this is just the first of many ways we’ll be celebrating Mickey Mouse. On the second floor of Great Ceremonial House in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a beloved Disney World watering hole: Tambu Lounge. Learn About: Tambu Lounge Polynesian Resort Disney World Restaurants Nestled next to ‘Ohana, many a guest has enjoyed a drink at this casual, welcoming lounge. And perhaps a Lapu Lapu — Tambu’s famous concoction served in a pineapple — has been on (or been checked off!) your Disney Food Bucket List. Maybe you’ve enjoyed the spot’s savory Pork Nachos, or polished off a single serving size of ‘Ohana Bread Pudding while bellying up to the bar. Or maybe you’ve even started your day there because… VACATION!! If any of the scenarios above is the case, then you’re likely as glad as we are that Tambu Lounge is reopen TODAY after a lengthy refurbishment! In fact, they were just putting on some finishing touches before getting ready to start serving. And we’re here to check out what’s changed and what’s remained the same at Tambu Lounge! Atmosphere As far as what’s changed… well, you may have to take a pretty close look. Tambu Lounge Tambu Lounge Tambu Lounge The tikis remain ready to greet you… Tambu Lounge And the thatched roof remains to… well, just to add some extra cool ambiance and provide some visual separation from ‘Ohana next door, as always! Roof You can still sit at one of three counters (with a slightly new look) surrounding the full service bar and its Cast Members, who serve from within the center. Bar seating Peek under, and you’ll spy some charging stations. Bar seating And something else you’ll notice nearby… remember those two temporary bars that were serving guests while Tambu Lounge was being refurbished? One has already been dismantled. However, the temporary bar next to the monorail entrance and exit doors is still standing. Bar next to Monorail And some additional seating has been added. Additional Seating Additional Seating While the long term plans for this space are not yet known, at this time, the Monorail area bar will remain for the time being to be used when crowds are high. While it won’t be open consistently, it will likely remain at least through the holiday season. The biggest visual change back at the main bar area from a guest’s perspective, though, is the new serving station jutting out from the side, which takes the place of a few bar seats. Serving station And this will ultimately affect the guest’s experience by giving the Cast more room to spread out and make more drinks for guests. Liquor You’ll also notice the drink machines, which will provide speed to service in another way. These will pre-mix the non-alcoholic Keiki Lemonade (we’ll look at the menu shortly), the base for the signature Lapu Lapu (which will still be topped with Goslings 151 Rum for the finishing touch), and Mai Tais. Drink Machines Otherwise… the scene feels very familiar. Drinks Tambu Lounge serves from early morning until late at night. Our visit to see the refurbished space was in the morning. Tambu Lounge Menu And speaking of things that feel familiar, you’ll still find the Lapu Lapu, Island Sunset, Backscratcher, and Tropical Macaw cocktails front and center. However, the online menu was changed this morning and no long reflect these classic drinks. We’re not sure what’s going on there, but we’re hoping these do stick around. The cast member we spoke to at Tambu told us that these would remain on the menu, but stay tuned to DFB for potential changes. Cocktail Menu Specialty Cocktails also include the Polynesian Mai Tai and Puka Punch, while the Keiki Lemonade is the featured Mocktail. Specialty Cocktail and Mocktail Menu And here’s a look at the Beer, Wine, and Hard Cider listings. Beer Menu Beer and Cider Wine Menu So, there are your drinks! Now let’s take a look at the Eats, because you may really want to pay attention here… Eats Something important to note is that our trip to Tambu Lounge took place this morning as the space was preparing to officially reopen after finishing touches were complete. The menu picture you’ll see below reflects the Small Bites that will typically be available from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. These include a Shrimp Cocktail and Tambu Mixed Grill Kebab. Midday Food Menu BUT! Depending on your familiarity with Tambu Lounge, you may notice a thing or two missing. We checked, in particular, on two items. First, the single-serving of ‘Ohana Bread Pudding… ‘Ohana Bread Pudding at Tambu Lounge … and also, the fan favorite Pulled Pork Nachos. Pork Nachos at Tambu Lounge And we received GREAT news! Both of these items will be available again; however (as it was previously), they won’t be available until closer to each evening, around 3:00 – 4:00 PM-ish. Overall We’re so happy to say “Welcome Back” to Tambu Lounge! Even with the arrival of the still super popular Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Tiki Terrace to the Polynesian a few years ago, Tambu Lounge still holds a very special place in our hearts, and that of many a Polynesian guest. So know that, just in time for the rush of the holidays to come, the Tambu Lounge once again has a seat for you! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! I tried to jump-start my holiday spirit through a few ho-ho-ho hotspots at Walt Disney World last week. Some were pricey and crowded; one was (Christmas miracle alert!) free of charge. Disneyland Resort is going all-in for holiday eats and drinks, and that extends beyond kiosks, snacks, and quick service. In fact, table service restaurants and lounges are also feeling the holiday spirit — and in this case, that means spirits for us! Carthay Circle Restaurant and 1901 Lounge (exclusive lounge for Club 33 members) are offering The Sleigh Ride, a perfectly nice drink that comes with a totally killer accessory: a Mickey Snowflake Glowcube! The Sleigh Ride The Sleigh Ride consists of gin, vermouth, lime juice, and lavender liqueur — so it’s a refreshing drink that has both citrus and floral notes (it’s basically an Aviator). But you’re in this for the Mickey Snowflake Glowcube, don’t even pretend you’re not. Snowflake Glowcube If you want to see the glowcube in all of its flashy, Mickey Snowflake glory, check out our Disneyland correspondent Heather’s Instagram @DiningInDisney. It’ll just make you want the cube even more! The Sleigh Ride — with epic Snowflake Glowcube! Yup, it’s worth the effort to get an ADR at Carthay Circle or trying to squeeze in at the bar! This is also available at 1901 Lounge. If you’re as excited about Disneyland’s many, many holiday offerings, you’ll want to download and print the DFB’s THREE exclusive snack checklists! Are you a glowcube afficionado? Tell us about your favorite in the comments below! Alert, alert: a new flavor of Wine Slush has arrived at Walt Disney World! This is not a drill! Don’t worry: we’re here with the details. Cue the confetti! We also have a review of the beautiful, seasonal Apricot Peach Verrine dessert for you. (So many verrines this year.) It’s all part of the Holidays at Disney Springs. Apricot Peach Verrine You probably want to start with the wine, right? Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs introduced the world to the magic of Wine Slushies a little over a year ago, so we were pretty jazzed to find a new seasonal wine slush flavor on the menu: Cranberry Chardonnay. Cranberry Chardonnay Wine Slush The verdict? It. Was. Amazing. If you like cranberry juice, you’ll enjoy this. It’s fruity and quite tart, yet still nice and light – perfect for the warmer Florida weather! The Cranberry Chardonnay Wine Slush can be all yours for $9. Feeling adventurous? Have the staff at Amorette’s swirl it with one of their other wine slush flavors! Let’s get to dessert, shall we? The Apricot Peach Verrine features buttermilk panna cotta, apricot peach gelee, and sugared almonds. It’s even topped with a fleck of edible gold! The Apricot Peach Verrine ($8) was part of Amorette’s WonderFALL lineup at Disney Springs, but it’s still here for a limited time. Apricot Peach Verrine While peach might seem like more of a summer flavor, this Verrine was a good fit for late autumn. You won’t find light, frothy, or zingy here. Instead, the buttermilk panna cotta was thick and creamy with a tiny hint of sourness, the gelee was sweet, and the almonds added a nice crunch. If you enjoy creme brûlée, Greek yogurt, and subtle peach and apricot flavors, you’ll love this treat. Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Plaza Inn on Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A. has joined in on the Holiday fun and just added a three new Christmas-themed treats to their menu. Read on to find out if they’re worth the stop! Plaza Inn, Main St. USA Plaza Inn is known for its great location, charming atmosphere, and most of all the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted (no exaggeration there, seriously!). We set out to find out if their new holiday dessert menu treats were a must-try and here’s what we found. Disneyland Plaza Inn’s Holiday Dessert Menu First up: this cute little Holiday Bundt Cake. Plaza Inn Holiday Bundt Cake While we loved the presentation–especially the cute little Minnie chocolate detail on top–we were a little disappointed with the first bite. Like we’ve seen happening over at Jolly Holiday Bakery, their classic buttercream has been replaced in several desserts with white chocolate mousse. It’s sweet, but pretty generic. I really miss the buttercream! Lots of frosting, but no buttercream Next, the Christmas Mint Yule Log. Plaza Inn Christmas Mint Yule Log This holiday dessert also gets some extra points for presentation with that perfect chocolate cake swirl and those cute shiny chocolate pearls on top. And while the buttercream hasn’t disappeared from this one, I didn’t get a lot of flavor from this. Moving on to the Coconut Cream Pie: Plaza Inn Christmas-themed Coconut Cream Pie This dessert is pretty basic in terms of presentation and again, didn’t really wow us with the flavor. You do get coconut vibes from this with the coconut-flavored pastry cream, coconut flavored whipped cream, and coconut shavings on tops, but that’s about it. A sweet coconutty dessert but not a lot of flavor depth. Christmas Coconut Cream Pie at the Plaza Inn All three of these desserts were fine, but they all left us with that “meh” feeling. Is it worth stopping at the Plaza Inn JUST for the Holiday desserts? Probably not. With all of the other drool-worthy Holiday sweets at Disneyland, we think your tastebuds (and dollars!) would be happier with something else. And good news! We already have a list of the best for you! Check them out here! Peppermint fans — go straight to California Adventure’s Schmoozies for two peppermint-y Christmas-y delights! As we continued on our Food Tour of Disneyland eating and drinking as many Christmas specialty items as we could, we headed right to Schmoozies and are glad we did! Schmoozies We’ll just say it again — peppermint! What a sweet, cool stop! Take a look at this Peppermint Affogato. For those who aren’t sure, an affogato is espresso poured over ice cream. In this case — peppermint ice cream. Schmoozies Peppermint Affogato This is a generous serving of both espresso and ice cream. If you’re a little tired after your food crawl, this will give you the energy (caffeine) you need to get around the park! Schmoozies Peppermint Affogato If you’re a fan of peppermint mochas you’ll love this — its a cool version of that drink, minus the chocolate of course. Schmoozies Peppermint Affogato But OMG! Look at this peppermint wonder, the Peppermint Crunch Shake! This looks like something out of the new Grinch movie. Schmoozies Peppermint Crunch Shake You’ve got a peppermint ice cream shake topped with chocolate cookie crumbles, crushed peppermint, and that crazy green peppermint whipped cream! And, it’s in a cup garnished with chocolate and crushed peppermint. Schmoozies Peppermint Crunch Shake This is another home run for peppermint fans. Cool, refreshing, Christmas-y, colorful…just Christmas in a cup! The peppermint whipped cream — though super strange to look at — was actually my favorite part. Just a touch of peppermint flavor and a lot of vanilla-y rich cream flavor made this one not too overwhelming. Schmoozies Peppermint Crunch Shake Schmoozies has really upped the game this holiday season — all of their offerings are sweet, cool, and tasty. Read our reviews of the Minnie Wreath Donut and Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich. Disney Springs: Christmas Tree Trail trimmed with characters
