Nancy Clancy, the high-spirited young girl from Disney Junior’s hit animated series “Fancy Nancy,” is making “une grande entrée” into Disney Parks this spring! Just in time for the 30th anniversary of Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 1, you’ll be able to find Nancy at an all-new character greeting location in the park’s Animation Courtyard, where she’ll be meeting all her friends in front of her backyard playhouse. Nancy will also soon be part of the breakfast-time fun during Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine at Hollywood & Vine, the place to eat, play and laugh along with favorite Disney Junior friends including Vampirina, Doc McStuffins and Roadster Racer Goofy. Later in May, Nancy will be heading to Disneyland Resort, too! There, you’ll get to see her just outside the “Disney Junior Dance Party!” in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure park. Disney Junior’s animated family comedy “Fancy Nancy” follows six-year-old Nancy, whose imagination and enthusiasm for all that is exquisite transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary – from her vast vocabulary to her creative and elaborate attire. It takes a village to create something as groundbreaking as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ⎯ including the costumes that will be worn in the village in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We’ve shared a lot about how the details are what bring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life, and that principle carries through all the items worn by Cast Members, who will be residents of the planet Batuu and carrying out their daily lives in Black Spire Outpost. In the early stages of designing the land, we knew that the Cast Members working here would be part of the story in a way unlike we’ve ever seen before. This guiding principle led a team of costumers, buyers and artists to create dozens of styles for Cast working on Batuu. Outside of the, well, orderly First Order, the costumes for members of the Resistance and, particularly the villagers, will be as varied as the Cast Members themselves. Different styles and colors for pants and shirts, and optional accessories like scarves, hats and even necklaces, will allow Cast to mix and match to create individualize their part of our Star Wars story. Designers took inspiration from all of the Star Wars films as well as the animated series, identifying iconic looks and silhouettes to translate into real world costume pieces. The team took risks in the choices they made, including working with innovative fabrics to make the costumes as unique and comfortable as possible. Mesh panels make vests lighter, nylon makes a stretchy pant more unique, cotton creates a more breathable shirt. Comfort and durability are priorities when creating Cast costumes, so the team conducted a variety of tests to ensure the fabrics would wear well over time. Let’s take a closer look at the different groups of costumes available to Cast. Join the Resistance Resistance costumes are rugged, military-inspired uniforms, with a soft, well-used feel. Vests and jackets feature patch details inspired by communicators worn in the films, and there is an optional hat to protect from the elements. The First Order This costume is a powerful, charcoal grey military-style uniform with structured shoulders taken directly from the looks we’ve seen on screen. In stark contrast to the other costumes seen on the planet of Batuu, First Order costumes are pristine, polished and orderly. General Hux would have it no other way. Black Spire Outpost Villagers The village costume collection is comprised of multiple shirts, bottoms and vests for tons of mix and match options to suit preference and personality. There is also a suite of accessories including scarves, necklaces, hats and a versatile pouch to further customize their look. Rise of the Resistance sounds like it’s going to live up to all the hype as this longest Disney attraction ever is actually a combination of four different experiences in one! Here’s what we know, in a nutshell: Riders start out in a military outpost built by the resistance BB8 and Rey ask us to join a mission for the Resistance to fight the First Order. We join Poe Dameron on a transport ship piloted by Nien Nunb and take off (while standing). Space battle ensues. Our transport ship loses and gets sucked into a Star Destroyer tractor beam. The doors open to the sight of 50 Storm Troopers; First Order officers separate the guests into smaller groups and bring them to jail cells. Kylo Ren interrogates us…we must escape. Star Wars Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run Ride The second major attraction coming to Galaxy’s Edge is Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, which puts you in the pilot’s seat (or the flight engineer’s or gunner’s seats!) as you take control of the Millennium Falcon on a mission to transport contraband! The attraction provides several different views of the ship and ultimately ends up with riders piloting the ship with sweeping cockpit views! And, oh yeah, what makes this different from Mission:Space (among other things) is that you can actually mess this up. It’s possible to FAIL at this mission…and be reminded of it over and over again while you continue through Galaxy’s Edge the rest of the your day… . (Kind of like Google Translate, I’m guessing?) Use the Datapad to solve puzzles while you wait in line for Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. And hack into surveillance boxes, enabling or disabling them depending on whether you’re working for the Resistance or the First Order! The interaction will bring immersion to a whole.new.level. We’ve been hearing that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be the most immersive and interactive lands in Disney. Now, we know even more about HOW that interactivity is going to happen… . Currently, you can use the Play Disney Parks App to play interactive games in line at popular attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight. But, get ready for the interactivity to go to a whole new level when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens this summer in Disneyland and this fall in Walt Disney World. Play Disney Parks App ©Disney What will we be able to do in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with our phones? Let’s take a look! Translate Signs, Encryption, and Conversations in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Visitors to Disney World’s Pandora in Animal Kingdom may remember getting a printed piece with translations of key words in Na’vi, the language of the land, into English. That will look pretty quaint compared to what you will be able to do with the Play Disney Parks App in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! As we enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge the Play Disney Parks App will “transform” into a Star Wars datapad. Our new datapads will help us translate the Star Wars language of Aurebesh into English. We’ll be able to translate the signs, labels, and even listen to characters’ conversations around us with the help of the translate function on our datapads (HELOOOOOO Google Translate!). Plus, when we are in the queue for the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance we’ll be able to solve puzzles on the datapad that unlock a translation key. This translation key will help us translate the signs in the queue that give us some information on our upcoming missions. Maybe we’ll even be able to find out what is written on this building with the App in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when it opens! Our datapad, or transformed Play Disney Parks App, will allow us to listen in on what is being broadcast and the conversations between the the Resistance, the First Order, and various underworld gangs. Once in a while, we might even listen in on something that makes no sense at all, but it is really a coded message. Our datapads will help us translate the coded conversation or broadcast and listen in on the secret transmission. Screenshot of Video ©Disney Help Your Side, the First Order or the Resistance, in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge There will be a surveillance system, that the First Order installed, to track the Resistance’s movements around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. As we visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge we will see surveillance boxes all around us. We will be able to use our datapads to hack into these boxes after solving a simple puzzle. Then, this is where the decision comes, do you help the First Order or the Resistance? You can help the Resistance by disabling the surveillance box, or you can choose the First Order by reactivating a disabled surveillance box. Which side are you on? Get a Job in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge OK, you’re on vacation, but this will be fun! The Play Disney Parks App, or SWGE datapad, will help us interact with the droids in the village and we can find out who is looking for help; the First Order, the Resistance, or even a rogue gang playing both sides. We can also take a job off the datapad’s job board from Hondo Ohnaka, who runs the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride, that might include transmitting the schematic for a First Order ship. ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter Our time in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will including earning points and rewards in the Play Disney Parks App, but the main purpose of the app is to increase our engagement and involvement in the land when we are visiting. The interactivity and Play Disney Parks App are not mandatory when we are in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We will be able to opt in or out of the interactivity, or play as much as we want. We will also be able to play in groups on one device, or individually on each of our own phones. If we play as group on one device we can assign roles to each person in the group. In the past, you may have heard us share that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the largest single-themed land expansion at both Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and that they are opening this summer and fall, respectively. We have previously shared that while the land is epic in size, every detail in the land has been designed to have an authentic Star Wars feel. You hopefully have also seen the teasers of our two anchor attractions – Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, where you will find yourself in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which allows you and your flight crew to take the controls of the fastest ship in the galaxy on a special mission. We have also said that Oga’s Cantina is a great place for guests to grab a beverage, catch up on the latest gossip while R-3X, formerly the Starspeeder pilot on the original Star Tours, DJ’s a collection of new music. Today I’d like to introduce a new series on the Disney Parks Blog called “Building Batuu.” Batuu, as you may know, is the home of Black Spire Outpost, the location you will visit when you arrive at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Over the next several months, we will be providing you with more details about this entire new land, the offerings and attractions and how you can live your own Star Wars adventure in a galaxy far, far away. We will show you how you can dive deeper into Star Wars storytelling by engaging with the land through the Play Disney Parks app, if you desire a deeper level of immersion. But there is also plenty to see and do (and taste!) throughout Black Spire Outpost that we haven’t previously shared. While we’re on the subject of taste, there will be several locations in our land to satisfy the appetites of most rogue adventurers: Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo – Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has traveled throughout the galaxy following his longtime gig as the chef at Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana and brings exotic flavors and unusual dishes to his traveling diner “Tuggs’ Grub.” Ronto Roasters – A recycled podracing engine fires up a spit of exotic meats, meticulously turned by a former smelter droid, 8D-J8. Guests can even sample some of the tasty Ronto fare. Milk Stand – The place to go to get your farm-fresh blue milk or green milk, direct from Bubo Wamba Family Farms. Kat Saka’s Kettle – One of the many street market stalls, this grain vendor sells the ever-popular Outpost Mix (blend of sweet, savory and spicy popcorn). For those looking to purchase in-story Star Wars merchandise and rare finds from across the galaxy, you need to look no further than our many different Outpost stores and market stalls. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities – For those in the know, Dok-Ondar is the Ithorian you seek for selling and buying rare and uniquely-valued items from across the galaxy and spanning all eras. Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers – Guests come to the workshop to meet with the Gatherers – a secretive group of people who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of Jedi lore and the Force. The workshop Master guides guests to customize and build their own unique lightsabers, and instructs them on the ways of the Jedi. Droid Depot – Visitors to Mubo’s workshop can choose parts and construct their own individual astromech droids to accompany them on their journey, and then take them home with them. First Order Cargo – A spaceport hangar bay serves as the temporary base and landing spot for the First Order. First Order officers have brought in crates of gear, uniforms and other supplies to win the hearts and minds of locals and visitors to Black Spire Outpost. Resistance Supply – Resistance members and local sympathizers oversee a makeshift stall that supplies Resistance uniforms, pins, badges, hats, helmets, jackets, maps, tools, training supplies, food rations and other items. There are also several market stalls which sell a variety of merchandise such as: Toydarian Toymaker (toys) Creature Stall (interesting critters that you can take home with you) Black Spire Outfitters (clothing) The Jewels of Bith (accessories and other trinkets to treasure) I look forward to sharing additional details about these and much more through our “Building Batuu” series with some additional news coming later today on some of the food and beverage offerings that will be served in Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and how the Disney cast members’ costumes will play a big part in bringing the inhabitants of this outpost to life. Alright guys, Disney just dropped TONS of info about Galaxy’s Edge including info about all the new restaurants and that incredible Rise of the Resistance ride (check out the details here!), but right now we’re here for all that stuff we get to take home with us! Let’s check out all the CRAZY merchandise available at Black Spire Outpost!! We’ll start off in Bina’s Creature Stall where you can pick up a new pet to accompany your journey through the galaxy. Galaxys Edge Plush Creatures You can shop for these adorable plushes while surrounded by life size animated versions in cages and aquariums around the store. Next up is Mubo’s Droid Depot where you can create your own droid in an assembly line style format where you can build your droid and give it some personality. There will be two basic models – the R unit (like our buddy R2-D2) or a BB unit like, BB-8. Galaxys Edge Droid Depot These droids are all about the size of a toaster, but larger-scale droids will cruise around the shop while you create your new friend. Toydarian Toyshop Over at the the Toydarian Toyshop, run by Zabecca the Toydarian, you’ll find lots of plushes and action figures. Galaxys Edge Plush Toys All of the toys here will have a homemade feel and the shop will also carry some musical instruments you might have spotted in the Star Wars films like the clarinet played at Mos Eisley’s Cantina. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities Dok-Ondar shares his collection of rare antiquities with Black Spire Outpost guests, including some Jedi and Sith artifacts. Galaxys Edge Merchandise This stall will also contain holocron cubes, or Jedi archives, and historic lightsabers for us Earthlings to take home to remember our intergalactic journey. Galaxys Edge Holocron Cubes Guests will also be able to build their own high-end lightsabers –totally different from the plastic toy sabers we’re used to — with prices starting around $150 for a complete lightsaber. Blackspire Outpost Fashion Members of the First Order will 0perate their own clothing stall in Blackspire Outpost selling helmets, journals and water bottles. Galaxys Edge Merchandise The Resistance will run their own shop on the other side of Galaxy’s Edge with more Star Wars inspired clothing options including new pins, badges and hats. Are you ready to step inside the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy”?! Well, you’ll still have to wait until Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens this summer in Disneyland and this fall in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. But in the meantime, we’ve got NEW DETAILS about Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run! ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter The OCRegister has shared the scoop learned on a behind-the-scenes tour on the attraction which will allow guests — who will fulfill the roles of pilot, flight engineer, or gunner — to take control of the Millennium Falcon to transport contraband cargo! Artist Concept of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks So, be prepared for spoilers coming up… here goes!! A spaceport on Black Spire Outpost is where the mission starts. The 110-foot Falcon “will spool up its engines and vent thrust gases while docked at a spaceship maintenance bay.” The ride’s queue will deliver guests into Ohnaka Transport Solutions where they will walk past communication equipment and the armor of storm troopers spilling from cargo containers while making their way to the second floor. “An animated blaster-riddled starship engine suspended from the ceiling glows a pulsating red.” While overhearing the Ohnaka crew preparing the Millennium Falcon for its mission, guests will also be able to view the ship from multiple angles in the queue. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks Next? It’s time to receive the mission from an audio-animatronic Hondo Ohnaka! The space pirate will be joined by his droid R5P8 who fixes equipment in the Command Center. And behind them, the Millennium Falcon will hover in view by way of a video screen before it lands in the hangar bay. Hondo Ohnaka Guests will then “enter the main hold of the ship where they can play hologram chess and take photos while waiting for a flight crew assignment.” Hondo will present pre-flight specifics via a monitor. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks And next… it will at last be time to step inside the Millennium Falcon! Six riders will create three rows: pilots in the front, gunners in the middle, and flight engineers in the last row. Activation of the cockpit buttons, switches, and levers will create sounds. The hangar bay of Ohnaka Transport Solutions will be projected onto a domed screen outside the cockpit windows. Though the behind-the-scenes tour ended here (Disney “didn’t offer a test ride during the tour”), The OC Register concluded to say that the flight crew will work together as a team to fly the Millennium Falcon during a space battle with First Order TIE fighters. Disney has announced that tickets for the D23 Sip and Stroll Event at Disney California Adventure go on sale TODAY at 10 am! This is the perfect opportunity to get a deeper look at the 2019 Food and Wine Festival. Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival The D23 Sip and Stroll Event includes a guided tour through the Festival Marketplaces, a private reception to sample a few Food and Wine signature offerings, a Q&A with a few of the chefs and sommeliers who created the menu for the festival, and a reserved viewing of World of Color! Guests will also receive a copy of the Disney Festivals Cookbook and a $25 Disney gift card. The tickets are $130 a person plus a $7 processing fee. World of Color Here’s the fine print: D23 Gold and Gold Family Members can reserve their tickets for themselves and one additional guest. All attendees of the event need to be at least 21 years old. It’s finally TIME! Are you ready to go INSIDE the coming-soon Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction in Disneyland’s and Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge?? We’ve got a sneak peek for you…let’s GO! Trackless Ride System and AT-ATs! This, probably the most highly anticipated new attraction coming to Galaxy’s Edge, is going to BLOW. YOUR. MIND. Even more so than originally thought. This will be Disney’s longest attraction ever created, and is actually “four attractions in one,” reports Carlye Wisel, one of several reporters who were given a sneak peek and tour of the new attraction in Disneyland last week. “Guests will board multiple ride vehicles, encounter enemies, and walk the halls of a Star Destroyer as if they were truly a Resistance fighter taken captive.” Sounds amazing. But what really happens? Let’s tour through Rise of the Resistance together… . You’ll find Rise of the Resistance in a wooded area near Black Spire Outpost — a village on the planet Batuu. Here, the Resistance is hiding out in a military outpost to avoid detection by the First Order. As you enter the queue, you’ll explore gun turrets, rock tunnels, and locker rooms filled with flight suits. Tie Fighter at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge The pre-show features Rey, accompanied by BB8, asking guests to embark on a mission to battle the First Order. Guests will travel with Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. Once you accept the mission, you’ll pass a giant X-Wing to board a transport ship being piloted by Nien Nunb. As the ship takes off, the guests (currently standing) can feel the floor shake. INSIDE Star Wars Rise of the Resistance! Here’s where things get dicey. The ship is soon captured by a Star Destroyer, and guests are greeted by 50 storm troopers! First Order officers separate the guests into smaller groups that are escorted to a jail cell. Kylo Ren steps in to interrogate, and the guests-turned-prisoners have to figure out how to escape. That’s only one-third of the ride…but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what happens next!
