Aunt Polly’s is a VERRRRY seasonal quick service spot uniquely located on Tom Sawyer Island at Walt Disney World. Finding this fun, casual restaurant open is a bit of challenge, but when you do, it’s a terrific place to grab a quick bite — particularly when the weather is amenable to outdoor dining on the front porch! And for a short time this month, Aunt Polly is welcoming diners! Aunt Polly’s The restaurant will be open from March 9-16 between 11AM-3PM and serving up some simple quick service eats! Becky’s Buttery Biscuit BBQ Sliders are back (Click here to read our review of Aunt Polly’s Biscuit BBQ Pork Sliders!), and we love the quaintness of the Peanut Butter and Raspberry Preserve Sandwich. Other fun bites include a Peanut Butter, Nutella, and Banana Sandwich; Soft Pretzel Sticks; and Mississippi Mud Brownie. To wash it all down? Lemonade and Root Beer Floats! Becky’s Buttery Biscuit Barbecued Pork Sliders Dining at Aunt Polly’s is like stepping back in time — to a quieter time when you could just munch on your PB&J on the front porch. And there’s something fine about that even though it’s not fine dining. Don’t miss a bit of Disney Parks news — including tidbits like when you can find Aunt Polly’s open! It’s been a big news day for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as the opening dates were released at the Walt Disney Company’s shareholders’ meeting earlier — but Galaxy’s Edge isn’t the only big development happening at Walt Disney World later this year. We’re talking, of course, about Disney’s Skyliner. And we’ve got a FIRST LOOK at unwrapped Skyliner gondolas on the track! Just over a week ago we reported on testing of the Skyliner transportation system (click here to see more about the full-speed test!!), but at that time the vehicles themselves were still under wraps, clad in white to obscure details about the design. Now we see the gondola vehicle in bright yellow with what appears to be white detailing and a logo. We’re also getting a better look at the windows and what appear to be vents along the top of the gondola. Skyliner unwrapped! From this close-up view, these vents appear to be cantilevered, but we don’t have any specifics. From what we know this is the only “air conditioning” currently. Skyliner unwrapped! Many thanks to DFB follower @BradleyTroll for the pics! We’ll be watching the skies for even more from the Skyliner! Be sure to tag @DisneyFoodBlog on Instagram and @DisneyFoodBlog on Twitter while you’re in the parks or looking up at these beauties! And sign up for the DFB Newsletter today so you don’t miss out on any Disney Parks news! What do you think about these new images of the Skyliner? Let us know with a comment! The Land Pavilion’s Sunshine Seasons is one of the “Additional Locations” for specialty food options during the 2019 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. This category recognizes specialty items that are available for the Festival, but are not located at the event’s Outdoor Kitchen Food Booths. Sunshine Seasons sign in The Land Pavilion The specialty item at Sunshine Seasons is the Earl Grey Tea Cake with Orange-Honey Filling topped with Honeybell Tangelo Buttercream, Honeycomb, and Bee Pollen. Earl Grey Tea Cupcake But, for reasons you can easily see, we refer to it as the “Honey Bee Cupcake”. And at Sunshine Seasons, it’s simply labeled as the Seasonal Dessert. The unique blend of flavors is even more remarkable than the adorable appearance of this treat. Earl Grey Tea Cupcake The Earl Grey Tea flavor, while present, is sweetened with the orange and honey in the filling — much like when you curl up with your favorite cup of tea. The honey buttercream has a light and fluffy texture over the cake, and the bit of honeycomb and honey drizzle is an awesome touch. Earl Grey Tea Cupcake It’s all in the details here, which are creative and thoughtful from both a taste and design perspective. But one detail we did want to point out are the “wings” on the bee. Earl Grey Tea Cupcake They are made of almonds. And while that’s a fine choice, nothing was noted about allergens, so we wanted to be sure to provide a heads up to guests for whom that may be a concern. In case you haven’t heard , opening dates have been announced for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (May 31, 2019) AND in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios (August 29, 2019). So… how do such high levels of anticipation (to put it mildly) affect the logistics of opening? Let’s talk about it… Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in TWO phases in Disneyland. The first — beginning, of course, on May 31st — will welcome guests to the Planet Batuu to experience elements of the land including one of the two attractions — Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The second phase, to take place “late this year,” will see the opening of the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction. According to Disney, “In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular.” Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ©Disney Additionally, Disneyland guests visiting between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation has not yet been released, but will be available at a future time on Disneyland.com and via the Disney Parks Blog. However, Disney did confirm that “Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.” Additionally, while Galaxy’s Edge will be open during regular park hours, it will not be included in Extra Magic Hour or Magic Morning at Disneyland park. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios Valid theme park admission will be required, of course, when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios It was also shared that “A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort.” Disney confirmed that Galaxy’s Edge will be open during Extra Magic Hours, and that “during Extra Magic Hours guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can spend extra time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios enjoying select attractions.” Hollywood Studios Disney likewise advises that more information will be shared at a future time on Disneyworld.com and on Disney Parks Blog. FastPasses for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run I know we’re all itching to reserve FastPasses for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. However, this statement has just been released by Disney: “For your vacation planning purposes, please be aware that Disney FASTPASS service, including access via Disney MaxPass, (at Disneyland park) and Disney FastPass+ service (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.” For ALL of the information above, Disney has also stated: “Capacity for the parks, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and its experiences is limited. Access to the park, land and experiences may be restricted or unavailable depending on guest demand and other factors.” Stay tuned!! And you should know that valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after its opening on August 29, 2019. Capacity is limited. It’s time to make another stop into Disney’s Hollywood Studios where construction continues in earnest on three BIG projects! Plus we’ve got a little merchandise and menu update! Come along with us, superstars! Disney’s Hollywood Studios Entrance Construction There’s progress on construction right at the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but there’s a bit of debate about what this will be. Entrance Construction The cast member we spoke to this week said it’s extra bag check space in anticipation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. But back when construction first began, a different cast member said it was tram drop-off and pick-up. Entrance Construction It’s a significant size, so we’re anxious to see it take shape, and we’ll keep checking with cast members so we can get a consensus on what this will be. Entrance Construction Entrance Construction Disney’s Hollywood Studios Bus Station Progress If you’ve been to Disney’s Hollywood Studios since construction began on the bus station, you know how much everyone is looking forward to these opening up! Bus Station Progress The bus stop now has the classic Hollywood Studios teal paint, highlighting some of the design details. The old Hollywood feel is in keeping with the park entrance. Bus Station Progress Gate numbers are up, as are flags. There are 40 stops spread across four sections. Bus Station Progress Bus Station Progress There’s still some painting to be done on Gates 1-8, but it appears the resort signs are installed (under black wrapping). Bus Station Progress Bus Station Progress Of course, until the bus station is completed, guests can enjoy a leisurely, 1+-mile walk to and from the temporary bus stop. (Please hurry, Disney!) Bus Station Progress Disney Skyliner Progress at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Station In other transportation news, the Skyliner continues to progress! Gondolas are lined up at the Hollywood Studios station still wrapped in their white protective wrapping. Skyliner Progress If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you know Skyliner has been testing actual gondolas recently. You’ve got to see these things in action! Click here!! Skyliner Progress Doors appear on the narrow end of the gondola and while in station, the doors are open! Skyliner Progress Compare the real life entity to the mock-up that was shared at Destination D in November. This gives us a little perspective on the design. Mickey with a Disney Skyliner Gondola Guests can also see Skyliner gondolas on the track. We gotta say, this is a cool view. Skyliner Progress Gondolas from below give us a little idea about the overall design. It appears there will be a black piece to cover the gap as riders board their gondolas. Skyliner Progress Skyliner Progress Skyliner Progress Is anyone else excited to see what the designs are beneath the wrap? Open those presents, y’all! Skyliner Progress Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy Progress Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is set to welcome racers later this month (see details here!!), and progress continues on the attraction. Lightning McQueen Racing Academy Progress There’s now a sign for Cruz Ramirez. It appears to be the same signage and structure from her old meet-and-greet. Lightning McQueen Racing Academy Progress The entrance to the Academy and Sunset Showcase is still behind the hedges — but we’ll be there when they wave the start flag! Lightning McQueen Racing Academy Progress Lightning McQueen Racing Academy Progress Disney’s Hollywood Studios Merchandise News The Keystone Clothiers shop on Hollywood Boulevard is closed.
