In the past, you may have heard us share that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the largest single-themed land expansion at both Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and that they are opening this summer and fall, respectively. We have previously shared that while the land is epic in size, every detail in the land has been designed to have an authentic Star Wars feel. You hopefully have also seen the teasers of our two anchor attractions – Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, where you will find yourself in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which allows you and your flight crew to take the controls of the fastest ship in the galaxy on a special mission. We have also said that Oga’s Cantina is a great place for guests to grab a beverage, catch up on the latest gossip while R-3X, formerly the Starspeeder pilot on the original Star Tours, DJ’s a collection of new music. Today I’d like to introduce a new series on the Disney Parks Blog called “Building Batuu.” Batuu, as you may know, is the home of Black Spire Outpost, the location you will visit when you arrive at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Over the next several months, we will be providing you with more details about this entire new land, the offerings and attractions and how you can live your own Star Wars adventure in a galaxy far, far away. We will show you how you can dive deeper into Star Wars storytelling by engaging with the land through the Play Disney Parks app, if you desire a deeper level of immersion. But there is also plenty to see and do (and taste!) throughout Black Spire Outpost that we haven’t previously shared. While we’re on the subject of taste, there will be several locations in our land to satisfy the appetites of most rogue adventurers: Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo – Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has traveled throughout the galaxy following his longtime gig as the chef at Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana and brings exotic flavors and unusual dishes to his traveling diner “Tuggs’ Grub.” Ronto Roasters – A recycled podracing engine fires up a spit of exotic meats, meticulously turned by a former smelter droid, 8D-J8. Guests can even sample some of the tasty Ronto fare. Milk Stand – The place to go to get your farm-fresh blue milk or green milk, direct from Bubo Wamba Family Farms. Kat Saka’s Kettle – One of the many street market stalls, this grain vendor sells the ever-popular Outpost Mix (blend of sweet, savory and spicy popcorn). For those looking to purchase in-story Star Wars merchandise and rare finds from across the galaxy, you need to look no further than our many different Outpost stores and market stalls. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities – For those in the know, Dok-Ondar is the Ithorian you seek for selling and buying rare and uniquely-valued items from across the galaxy and spanning all eras. Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers – Guests come to the workshop to meet with the Gatherers – a secretive group of people who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of Jedi lore and the Force. The workshop Master guides guests to customize and build their own unique lightsabers, and instructs them on the ways of the Jedi. Droid Depot – Visitors to Mubo’s workshop can choose parts and construct their own individual astromech droids to accompany them on their journey, and then take them home with them. First Order Cargo – A spaceport hangar bay serves as the temporary base and landing spot for the First Order. First Order officers have brought in crates of gear, uniforms and other supplies to win the hearts and minds of locals and visitors to Black Spire Outpost. Resistance Supply – Resistance members and local sympathizers oversee a makeshift stall that supplies Resistance uniforms, pins, badges, hats, helmets, jackets, maps, tools, training supplies, food rations and other items. There are also several market stalls which sell a variety of merchandise such as: Toydarian Toymaker (toys) Creature Stall (interesting critters that you can take home with you) Black Spire Outfitters (clothing) The Jewels of Bith (accessories and other trinkets to treasure) I look forward to sharing additional details about these and much more through our “Building Batuu” series with some additional news coming later today on some of the food and beverage offerings that will be served in Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and how the Disney cast members’ costumes will play a big part in bringing the inhabitants of this outpost to life. Alright guys, Disney just dropped TONS of info about Galaxy’s Edge including info about all the new restaurants and that incredible Rise of the Resistance ride (check out the details here!), but right now we’re here for all that stuff we get to take home with us! Let’s check out all the CRAZY merchandise available at Black Spire Outpost!! We’ll start off in Bina’s Creature Stall where you can pick up a new pet to accompany your journey through the galaxy. Galaxys Edge Plush Creatures You can shop for these adorable plushes while surrounded by life size animated versions in cages and aquariums around the store. Next up is Mubo’s Droid Depot where you can create your own droid in an assembly line style format where you can build your droid and give it some personality. There will be two basic models – the R unit (like our buddy R2-D2) or a BB unit like, BB-8. Galaxys Edge Droid Depot These droids are all about the size of a toaster, but larger-scale droids will cruise around the shop while you create your new friend. Toydarian Toyshop Over at the the Toydarian Toyshop, run by Zabecca the Toydarian, you’ll find lots of plushes and action figures. Galaxys Edge Plush Toys All of the toys here will have a homemade feel and the shop will also carry some musical instruments you might have spotted in the Star Wars films like the clarinet played at Mos Eisley’s Cantina. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities Dok-Ondar shares his collection of rare antiquities with Black Spire Outpost guests, including some Jedi and Sith artifacts. Galaxys Edge Merchandise This stall will also contain holocron cubes, or Jedi archives, and historic lightsabers for us Earthlings to take home to remember our intergalactic journey. Galaxys Edge Holocron Cubes Guests will also be able to build their own high-end lightsabers –totally different from the plastic toy sabers we’re used to — with prices starting around $150 for a complete lightsaber. Blackspire Outpost Fashion Members of the First Order will 0perate their own clothing stall in Blackspire Outpost selling helmets, journals and water bottles. Galaxys Edge Merchandise The Resistance will run their own shop on the other side of Galaxy’s Edge with more Star Wars inspired clothing options including new pins, badges and hats. Are you ready to step inside the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy”?! Well, you’ll still have to wait until Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens this summer in Disneyland and this fall in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. But in the meantime, we’ve got NEW DETAILS about Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run! ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter The OCRegister has shared the scoop learned on a behind-the-scenes tour on the attraction which will allow guests — who will fulfill the roles of pilot, flight engineer, or gunner — to take control of the Millennium Falcon to transport contraband cargo! Artist Concept of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks So, be prepared for spoilers coming up… here goes!! A spaceport on Black Spire Outpost is where the mission starts. The 110-foot Falcon “will spool up its engines and vent thrust gases while docked at a spaceship maintenance bay.” The ride’s queue will deliver guests into Ohnaka Transport Solutions where they will walk past communication equipment and the armor of storm troopers spilling from cargo containers while making their way to the second floor. “An animated blaster-riddled starship engine suspended from the ceiling glows a pulsating red.” While overhearing the Ohnaka crew preparing the Millennium Falcon for its mission, guests will also be able to view the ship from multiple angles in the queue. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks Next? It’s time to receive the mission from an audio-animatronic Hondo Ohnaka! The space pirate will be joined by his droid R5P8 who fixes equipment in the Command Center. And behind them, the Millennium Falcon will hover in view by way of a video screen before it lands in the hangar bay. Hondo Ohnaka Guests will then “enter the main hold of the ship where they can play hologram chess and take photos while waiting for a flight crew assignment.” Hondo will present pre-flight specifics via a monitor. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks And next… it will at last be time to step inside the Millennium Falcon! Six riders will create three rows: pilots in the front, gunners in the middle, and flight engineers in the last row. Activation of the cockpit buttons, switches, and levers will create sounds. The hangar bay of Ohnaka Transport Solutions will be projected onto a domed screen outside the cockpit windows. Though the behind-the-scenes tour ended here (Disney “didn’t offer a test ride during the tour”), The OC Register concluded to say that the flight crew will work together as a team to fly the Millennium Falcon during a space battle with First Order TIE fighters. Disney has announced that tickets for the D23 Sip and Stroll Event at Disney California Adventure go on sale TODAY at 10 am! This is the perfect opportunity to get a deeper look at the 2019 Food and Wine Festival. Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival The D23 Sip and Stroll Event includes a guided tour through the Festival Marketplaces, a private reception to sample a few Food and Wine signature offerings, a Q&A with a few of the chefs and sommeliers who created the menu for the festival, and a reserved viewing of World of Color! Guests will also receive a copy of the Disney Festivals Cookbook and a $25 Disney gift card. The tickets are $130 a person plus a $7 processing fee. World of Color Here’s the fine print: D23 Gold and Gold Family Members can reserve their tickets for themselves and one additional guest. All attendees of the event need to be at least 21 years old. The event does not include admission to Disney California Adventure Park. A limited number of tickets are available. So check them out as soon as they are released tomorrow at 10 am! If you’re walking around Florida in the middle of August, the last thing you want is a heated glass of milk. It’s refreshing, delicious and great.” According to Entertainment Weekly, it will be soft-frozen similar to a milkshake, while the Green Milk will feature more citrusy flavors. It’s finally TIME! Are you ready to go INSIDE the coming-soon Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction in Disneyland’s and Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge?? We’ve got a sneak peek for you…let’s GO! Trackless Ride System and AT-ATs! This, probably the most highly anticipated new attraction coming to Galaxy’s Edge, is going to BLOW. YOUR. MIND. Even more so than originally thought. This will be Disney’s longest attraction ever created, and is actually “four attractions in one,” reports Carlye Wisel, one of several reporters who were given a sneak peek and tour of the new attraction in Disneyland last week. “Guests will board multiple ride vehicles, encounter enemies, and walk the halls of a Star Destroyer as if they were truly a Resistance fighter taken captive.” Sounds amazing. But what really happens? Let’s tour through Rise of the Resistance together… . You’ll find Rise of the Resistance in a wooded area near Black Spire Outpost — a village on the planet Batuu. Here, the Resistance is hiding out in a military outpost to avoid detection by the First Order. As you enter the queue, you’ll explore gun turrets, rock tunnels, and locker rooms filled with flight suits. Tie Fighter at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge The pre-show features Rey, accompanied by BB8, asking guests to embark on a mission to battle the First Order. Guests will travel with Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. Once you accept the mission, you’ll pass a giant X-Wing to board a transport ship being piloted by Nien Nunb. As the ship takes off, the guests (currently standing) can feel the floor shake. INSIDE Star Wars Rise of the Resistance! Here’s where things get dicey. The ship is soon captured by a Star Destroyer, and guests are greeted by 50 storm troopers! First Order officers separate the guests into smaller groups that are escorted to a jail cell. Kylo Ren steps in to interrogate, and the guests-turned-prisoners have to figure out how to escape. That’s only one-third of the ride…but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what happens next! More than 56,000 princesses and princes alike descended upon Walt Disney World Resort this past weekend for the 2019 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Filled with royal memories and fairy-tale finishes, runners celebrated some of the classic Disney Princesses in a weekend of exciting events. Take a look at a few of our favorite highlights from throughout the weekend: Runners set off on an adventure with their familia during the Disney Princess 5K, which celebrated the beautiful la princesa, Elena of Avalor! Participants danced their way through an exciting 3.1 miles of fun. It was a race worth finishing for during the Disney Princess Enchanted 10K featuring Mulan. Warriors courageously took on the 6.2-mile course swiftly during the weekend’s second event. Full of grace and beauty, runners finished the dreamy weekend with a run through Walt Disney World Resort during the Disney Princess Half Marathon, celebrating Princess Aurora. Capturing her first runDisney event win, Jackie Pirtle-Hall met her fairy-tale ending in first place with a time of 1:18:30. Also celebrating a royal win, Bethany Evans captured the overall Female Wheelchair Division, posting a time of 1:25:13. A big congratulations to those runners who dazzled and went the extra miles to complete the Disney Fairy Tale Challenge, finishing 19.3 miles over the magical weekend! Transport yourself to Hollywood in the 1930’s with a dining experience at Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge at Disney California Adventure park! Inspired by Carthay Circle Theatre — the Los Angeles movie theater that premiered Walt Disney’s first feature-length animated movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937—enjoy a fine dining experience surrounded by the glitz and glamour of the cinematic Golden Age. Stardust lingers in the air with an homage to Hollywood and rich architectural details, but what hidden gems of information can we dig up? Say “Heigh-Ho!” and let’s look closer. Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge is located in a lively central location off Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Boulevard, serving a similar purpose to the Central Plaza at Disneyland park. In a sense, it’s the “castle-like” hub of Disney California Adventure park. When you enter the front doors, you are placed back in time at a sophisticated lounge. The look of the two-story space draws on the dramatic interior styling of the original Carthay Circle Theatre, which featured designs inspired by Mission Revival, Art Deco, Baroque and Western American art. Many of the design details in the Carthay Circle Lounge were inspired by the few interior photos of the Carthay Circle Theatre that still exist. Also, the designs of the lights and other fixtures are authentic and were manufactured by some of the same companies that produced the originals back in 1926. Once you travel to the second floor, a star-studded hallway transports you into the main dining room area. The mural above the centerpiece of the room is a replica of Snow White’s forbidden forest. Try not to get lost in it! Adjacent to the main dining room, there are three semi‐private dining areas: the five-seat Hyperion and Buena Vista rooms, named for the streets on which two of Walt Disney’s studios have been located, and the 12-seat Premiere Room where Snow White is also paid homage to. In the Premiere Room, there is a chandelier dangling above the table. These crown-like fixtures were designed to represent the evil queen’s reign over the castle. An apple-shaped applique pierces the center of the chandelier to represent the poison apple from the story. There are two solarium dining areas and dining terraces as well. You can see photographs of stars and producers from the 1930’s all the way to the 2000’s with Oscars in hand, including Walt himself! One special photo is of Audrey Hepburn congratulating Julie Andrews on her Oscar win for Best Actress in “Mary Poppins.” Here’s an interesting fact: Audrey Hepburn secured the role as Eliza Doolittle in the film adaptation of “My Fair Lady” after Julie Andrews’ run on Broadway as the character. Although she was disappointed to have not been cast for the film version, Andrews was free to play the role of Mary Poppins. For her amazing performance, she won the Oscar for Best Actress next to her Broadway counterpart Rex Harrison for the Best Actor award in the “My Fair Lady” movie. For Walt’s work on “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” he received an honorary Academy Award in 1939—one full-size Oscar along with seven “dwarf” statuettes. Shirley Temple is pictured next to him with this special award. There is another little girl in a photograph after you get off of the elevator, but it is not Shirley Temple. Do you know who she is? Yeah! Epcot’s Wine Walk has returned! (We KNEW it would be back!) We are so excited to see this fun way to try wines in Germany, Italy, and France again after it disappeared unexpectedly at the beginning of this year. Epcot’s Wine Walk is Back! And, there’s more good news! The price remained the same at $32.00 for two “environmentally-friendly”, refillable, acrylic glasses and six two-ounce pours of wine. The Wine Walk is often an overlooked activity in Epcot. When you purchase it you receive two refillable glasses and a passport that entitles you to, and tracks, your two pours at each location. As you complete the Wine Walk you’ll visit Weinkeller in Germany, Enoteca Castello in Italy, and Aux Vins de France in France. Weinkeller in the Germany Pavilion A convenient feature of the Wine Walk is if you can’t or don’t finish it in one day, you can complete it over the course of several days or visits. Just make sure you don’t misplace your passport — that’s what lets cast members know what entitlements remain on your Wine Walk! If you don’t want to complete the Wine Walk but still like the wine glass, you can buy just the wine glass for $5.00. Then you can purchase wines of your choice at each of the three locations. It’s been almost a month and a half since our male Masai giraffe calf made his grand entrance into the world on the Kilimanjaro Safaris savanna, and he has been growing ever so quickly – reaching his key developmental milestones in stride. Now standing at seven-feet tall, the “little one” is close to his mom, Mara, and the rest of the herd backstage in the giraffe barn. Our animal care team has been providing exceptional care as the calf continues to grow and get ready to go back out on the savanna in the coming month. We’ve been documenting some of these moments on our Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Facebook page in a series of videos called “Caring for Disney Animals” hosted by our expert keepers. Feeding the baby giraffe and his family is a tall order. While the calf’s primary source of nutrition is nursing from his mom, our keepers are helping him expand his appetite by giving him a taste of grains, produce and specially grown browse. As a stocker at the World of Disney store in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, Adi Alegria is dedicated to helping keep the store in ship-shape for guests searching for some extra magic during their visit. And with Disney Aspire, a groundbreaking education investment program for hourly cast members, Adi is now working to create magic for herself by pursuing her Master’s degree. In this installment of our #DreamsWithinReach series, following cast members making their dreams come true with Disney Aspire, we’re pleased to share Adi’s story with you, which began with a little wonder and a big goal. Adi grew up down the street from the Disneyland Resort and dreamed of working for Disney. Fast forward to two years ago when she graduated with a degree in journalism from Cal State Dominguez Hills. She was the first in her family to attend college and knew that she wanted to further her education and earn her Master’s. At the time, Adi wasn’t sure how she would accomplish her goal. Then, when Disney Aspire launched, Adi immediately wanted to learn more about the program. “When Disney Aspire rolled out, I realized that this was my ticket, not just to further myself and my education but also a way to further my career at the Disneyland Resort.” Now enrolled in a Master’s program in Communications Management with the University of Denver, Adi is well on her way to her educational dreams. Hear more about Adi’s story: Disney Aspire launched in 2018 to help more than 85,000 hourly cast members like Adi reach their goals by equipping them with education programs, coaching and job skills so they may learn and grow, with the cost of tuition and books covered by Disney. Cast members can pursue graduate programs like Adi, professional skills like Anthony Payne and even study English or Spanish with Rosetta Stone courses! And at Disney Aspire Expos, cast members have the opportunity to learn more about the schools and programs in the Disney Aspire network and speak with leaders and representatives to help them find the right program to suit their goals. Outdoor Kitchens 2019 brings an unprecedented number of Outdoor Kitchens — also known as Food Booths — to the Festival. 17 Food Booths — including FOUR new Outdoor Kitchens — plus additional locations with dedicated Festival items will serve enhanced food and drink options to Epcot guests.
