She’s here and she’s amazing! Kevin has landed in Animal Kingdom and she’s larger than life! Kevin from Up If you are wondering who, and what this giant bird is, she is from the Disney Pixar film Up. The stars of the film, Carl and Russell, befriend Kevin on their adventures in Paradise Falls. And the name, well initially Russell thinks Kevin is a boy, and names her Kevin, and the name stuck! Disney tells us Kevin has migrated North and landed on Discovery Island in Animal Kingdom. She is certainly getting to know her new home as she explores the Island and meets new friends. Kevin from Up Kevin is guided around by two Wilderness Explorers, and you may even see her with Russell and Dug when you are in the park — we were lucky enough to a video of these three friends together. We’ve got some big news to share from the Sunshine State today. Built in collaboration with the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA, a massive new 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility is officially online and providing renewable clean energy to Walt Disney World Resort! This facility is expected to generate enough power from the sun to operate two of our four theme parks in Central Florida annually. It will also significantly reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, joining the numerous efforts The Walt Disney Company has launched to deliver its 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50% compared to 2012. We will be celebrating this milestone in the coming months and look forward to sharing more details with you real soon. In the meantime, check out this time-lapse video – filmed with a solar-powered camera – to see how the facility has come to life. It has come a long way since our most recent update last fall, when the first of more than half a million panels was installed! This project is certainly a giant leap forward in our emissions efforts, but it’s not the first. You may remember hearing about the 22-acre, 5-megawatt solar facility shaped like Mickey Mouse that opened in 2016. You may already know about the Hei Hei Cone coming to Aloha Isle on February 24th. But it appears Hei Hei will have some more Disney-themed cones joining him in Magic Kingdom soon, according to a few menus on the Disney World website. Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies in Tomorrowland will be serving something called the Adventure Is Out There Cone, inspired by the film Up! Donald’s Seaside Breakfast made its debut last summer at PCH Grill in Disneyland Resort’s Paradise Pier Hotel. This character meal brings together Donald, Daisy, and Stitch with guests enjoying a breakfast buffet on Mondays through Thursdays. ©Disney So what’s next for Donald and the gang? Donald’s Seaside Brunch is coming to PCH Grill! Starting March 29th, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will offer an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet with items like Mickey-shaped waffles along with lunch specialties including soups, salads, pasta, pizza, and rotating seasonal options. When Oga’s Cantina opens along with the rest of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this summer, it will break precedent by being the first location to serve alcoholic beverages in Disneyland park. Oga’s Cantina Concept Art ©Disney And today, we have more information thanks to a Twitter conversation with the @DisneylandAP account, dedicated to information for Disneyland Annual Passholders. In responding to a question, @DisneylandAP confirmed that “guests will be required to stay in Oga’s Cantina while enjoying alcoholic beverages.” This is in keeping with Magic Kingdom’s alcoholic beverage policy. Previously a dry park as well, Magic Kingdom Table Service restaurants now serve alcohol. However, drinks must be consumed inside the restaurant where they are purchased. Yes…it’s open! And more than open…it has new menu items! We’re talking about the Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant in Magic Kingdom! Entering Tomorrowland Terrace! This seasonal quick service spot can be found as you walk from Main Street USA to Tomorrowland in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. And by seasonal, we mean, like, it’s basically never open. Spring Break means everything’s open, though, and Tomorrowland Terrace usually gets a new menu around this time each year. Don’t forget that you can use Mobile Ordering here, making this an even more convenient location! Ordering kiosks at Tomorrowland Terrace With ALL outdoor (though covered) seating, it’s a nice place to eat during the spring (and possibly early summer if it’s not too hot!). Oh, and there’s a reason Tomorrowland Terrace hosts the Happily Ever After Fireworks Dessert Party: views! You’ll get a great view of the castle and hub from the lower level seating here. Second and lower level seating So when our reporters spotted a new menu here, we couldn’t wait to try it out! New Items at Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant New items on this visit included a Buffalo Chicken Salad, Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and an Odwalla® Strawberry Lemonade Slushy. New Tomorrowland Terrace Menu Also on the menu (but not new items) on our visit were an Angus Bacon Cheeseburger, and Dipped Chicken Strips. You can see our review of the Buffalo Chicken Strips here! Tomorrowland Terrace Menu First up, the Buffalo Chicken Salad! This salad is crispy chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, atop a bed of mixed greens with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and drizzled with garlic ranch dressing. Buffalo Chicken Salad This salad was pretty good as far as theme park salads go. The buffalo sauce added some good heat and flavor but wasn’t overwhelmingly hot. In fact, I wish I had asked for extra! The vegetables were crisp and fresh and the dressing was great! I wish I had asked for more that too…. Buffalo Chicken Salad close-up Is it the best salad you’ll ever eat? Probably not, but if you want something a little lighter during your day, this is a great option. Next up, the Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps! Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps These are lettuce wraps topped with Hoisin Chicken and Crispy Rice Noodles. Now these were a delight! The chicken was tossed in a perfectly sweet sauce, and the crispy rice noodles added an awesome crunch. The lettuce leaves were fresh, and held up to the filling well. Truthfully, the only bad thing about these is the container. It keeps them stood up nicely, but it’s hard to get them out without losing some of the chicken mixture. Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps Close-up These were honestly such a great surprise and my new choice for a healthier meal in Magic Kingdom! Especially because they don’t taste healthy. Isn’t that the best? Now those of you eating keto in Disney World, these are in the camp of “decent choice but still has a sweet sauce.” Click here to see our recommendations for eating keto in Disney World! Last but not least, the Strawberry Lemonade Slushy! We’ve had this one in other locations, but were were happy to spot it here. It’s one of our OG favorite slushies. Strawberry Lemonade Slushy This slush has a strong, saturated strawberry and lemon flavor — almost like it’s concentrated. If you love sweet-tart things (probably more tart than sweet, with that intense flavor), you’ll enjoy this. Watch out for ice cream headaches, though! It’s also good to note that because they did vary the menu, that’s a good sign that Tomorrowland Terrace will be open more frequently through the Spring Break season. Celebration Cake at Plaza Inn We showed up at Disneyland’s Plaza Inn today anxiously awaiting the release of this limited edition treat only to be told it wasn’t going to be released until Friday…wait…WHAT?! After confirming today’s release date via the Disney Parks Blog with both the Chef and Manager, the Chef graciously went to cut us the VERY FIRST PIECE of the Celebration Cake — Thank you Chef!! Celebration Cake at Plaza Inn Now this is one good lookin’ cake! This dessert seriously brings the party with Mickey’s signature red and yellow, some party polka dots, expertly piped frosting streamers, celebratory confetti sprinkles and of course a Mickey shaped chocolate piece to top it all off. Celebration Cake at Plaza Inn We found the cake itself to be dense and moist with your typical vanilla cake flavor. The filling between each layer of the red and yellow cake was awesome! Despite being described as having a “raspberry and lemon filling,” I would have been convinced if someone described it as a lemon ONLY filling. Perhaps there was a small hint of raspberry, but only slightly. The filling was THICK and flavorful. The moisture of the cake and the thick filling together made for a great quality slice of cake! Cafe Rix at Walt Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort is the hotel’s quick service and grab-and-go dining location. The pastry case here is usually a little above-par for a hotel food court, but this latest cupcake… takes the cake. And the dropper. And the buttercream. It just takes it all. Entry to Cafe Rix Our Insta-pal @mrs.everydaymommy shared the Mocha Cupcake (at least…that’s what we’re calling it — there wasn’t a sign ;-D) with us, and we’re jazzed that she did. The Mocha Cupcake is a base of chocolate cake that’s topped with INSANE SUGARNESS with a flavor combination that always works: coffee and chocolate. Mocha Cupcake There are gobs of subtly-flavored coffee buttercream (so subtle that it might just be vanilla) and white and milk chocolate shavings. But that’s not all! It comes with a pipette of mocha-flavored syrup! This lets the guest dispense liquid however they want, potentially making the cupcake crazy moist. Mocha Cupcake The smooth buttercream is beautiful — doesn’t it look like frosting pillows? And the whole cupcake ends up being massive. It’s time to stop into one of our favorite bakeries at Disneyland Resort — Jolly Holiday on Main Street, U.S.A.! — and we’re making our way with the brand new Disneyland Guidemap! It’s got a colorful design and Mickey on the drums in the Soundsational Parade, returning for a limited time to Disneyland! New Disneyland Park Map! So cool. And the Candy Brownie we discovered at Jolly Holiday echoes that color and fun! This is a treat the whole family will love because it’s dotted with m&ms! Candy Brownie at Jolly Holiday A lot of m&ms! They’re pressed into the whipped buttercream frosting around the entire brownie! And in case one big dollop of frosting isn’t enough… there’s a second dollop topping it all off. Candy Brownie at Jolly Holiday The brownie is baked in a cupcake tin, it seems, so it has more of a cupcake/muffin appearance. It’s rich, a little crumbly, and studded with chocolate chips on the top! If you’re keeping track, that’s a chocolate brownie with chocolate chips, two generous dollops of frosting and a whole lot of m&ms. Candy Brownie at Jolly Holiday Needless to say, this is a treat you might consider sharing (especially if you’re going in for some of the many other treats at Jolly Holiday, too!) because it’s really sweet. But if you want to eat it all yourself, we’re in full support. Note that your brownie might have an added slice of Snickers Bar on the top to add to the sweetness! The Disney World Yacht and Beach Club Resorts’ shared pool, Stormalong Bay, is seeing some changes in both the menu at Hurricane Hanna’s and lots of construction on new Cabanas being added to the area. Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction The familiar shape of a cabanas can been seen popping up all around the pool. And soon, the Yacht and Beach Clubs will join the Contemporary and Grand Floridian Resorts in offering poolside cabanas. Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction No announcements have been made about the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts’ cabanas — so we do not know anything about any fees, amenities, or booking processes for them yet. Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction We do know the Cabanas at the Grand Floridian cost $265 for a full day rental, and $158 for a half day rental. The Grand Floridian’s cabanas come with 2 padded lounge chairs and a padded sectional couch, a ceiling fan, complimentary sunscreen and skincare products, a mini refrigerator stocked with complimentary sodas and water, and a smart TV with cable access. If you reserve your cabana in advance (which is recommended) you will receive a fruit basket and snack basket with your cabana rental. You can rent the cabanas the day of, but that is based on availability. All cabanas have a dedicated cast member for full service of the cabanas, plus you can also order from private dining at an additional fee. Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction The Cabanas at the Contemporary cost $211.94 for a full day rental, and $137 for a half day rental. The Contemporary’s cabanas come with padded chairs and a couch, a ceiling fan, complimentary skincare products, a mini refrigerator stocked with complimentary sodas and water, a phone for internal resort calls, a safe, a Bluetooth speaker, and a television with cable access. If you reserve your cabana in advance (which is recommended) you, again, will receive a fruit basket with your cabana rental. As is the case with Grand Floridian, you can rent the cabanas the day of, but that is based on availability. Private dining is available at an additional fee. Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay Cabana Construction The cabanas at the Grand Floridian and Contemporary can be reserved by any Disney resort guest — you just need to show your room key or MagicBand when you check in. Typically, the Yacht and Beach Clubs’ Stormalong Bay is for the exclusive use of Yacht and Beach Club guests, so we do not know if Disney resort guests who are not staying at the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will be able to book these new cabanas. As soon as an announcement is made about the amenities, fees, and booking process for the Yacht and Beach Clubs’ cabanas we will let you know.
