  1. We are just HOURS away from the start of Turkey season! T-Rex Restaurant Disney Springs is already getting ready for some feasts with Thanksgiving menus at Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, Terralina Crafted Italian, Raglan Road, and more! And, now there’s another restaurant stomping into the mix with its roaring menu! T-Rex has us wanting to chomp down on its Thanksgiving menu this year! T-Rex in Disney Springs Adults and children can dig into the roasted sliced white meat turkey, mashed potatoes with turkey gravy, green beans, cornbread stuffing, and cranberry sauce for dinner. To end the Thanksgiving meal on a sweet note, T-Rex is serving up a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream. This dessert option can also be substituted for an ice cream sandwich or lava mud for kids. Seating by the Dinosaurs Dig into lunch or dinner at the most prehistoric restaurant in Disney World for $28.99 for adults and $12.99 for children at T-Rex! And if you’re looking to save a few bucks this Turkey Day, you may be happy to note that this is one of the cheaper Thanksgiving menu options currently being offered around Disney World. Changing Lights During the Ice Age We have a good feelin’ it’ll taste dino-mite!! Will you be going to T-Rex for Thanksgiving lunch or dinner? Let us know in the comments below! 2. It was just your average day at Disney’s BoardWalk when we stumbled upon something HUGE!! Disney’s BoardWalk An Ice Cream Taco has arrived at Ample Hills Creamery! That’s right, the trendy treat we’ve recently seen in similar incarnations at Disney Springs is now available at Disney’s outpost of the Brooklyn-based craft ice cream company. Ample Hills Creamery Behold, the Ample Hills Creamery Ice Cream Taco! Ample Hills Creamery Ice Cream Taco It’s priced at $8.99 and comes with UNLIMITED toppings… that’s right, AS. MUCH. AS. YOU. WANT. Challenge Accepted! But first, decisions. decisions. Which flavor of their delicious ice cream should we get? Ample Hills Creamery Flavor Menu The metaphorical cherry on top of this sundae was when we asked how many scoops would be in the taco and the Cast Member replied: “AS MUCH AS I CAN FIT!” We LOVE that kind of answer! We ultimately decided on Baked/Unbaked and Ample Hill’s signature Ooey Gooey Butter Cake! Ooey Gooey Butter Cake We were shocked by the final product! It was PACKED! Taco ’bout a dessert! Ice Cream Taco From a side angle, you could see just how much ice cream was jammed in there. The Waffle Cone was absolutely amazing and tasted super fresh. And since you can choose your flavors, the outcome will really depend on which flavors you choose to put together. We loved the blend of the Baked/Unbaked and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. Of course, since this is little sugar overload, you can expect this to be a pretty sweet treat. Ice Cream Taco And since there’s SO MUCH stuffed in there, it may even be a good snack option to share with your family or friends. While the sign read “It’s always ice cream weather here,” it was your typical Florida day and this thing melted pretty fast! Word to the wise…eat up! Ice Cream Taco We HIGHLY recommend this delicious new treat, which also happens to be very photogenic! We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the NEW Ample Hills location opening in Disney Springs will bring even more fun new treats. Read all about the new Ample Hills location here! Will you be headed to Ample Hills Creamery at Disney’s BoardWalk for this new treat? Let us know! 11. Halloween is tomorrow which means the spooky season is coming to an end! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party We love celebrating Halloween time at Disney World especially with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party which takes place on select nights from August to November in Magic Kingdom. And, apparently, we’re not the only ones… The last two nights of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary are upon us, with the event closing out for the season on November 1st. And sadly, we come bearing bad news if you were hoping for those last-minute tickets because both Halloween and November 1st have officially sold out! These dates tend to be pretty popular since they fall on or near the holiday itself, so this news comes with very little shock. Headless Horseman is the harbinger of the Boo To You Parade This year, Disney introduced a new firework show and a few yummy and new treats. The event also includes attraction overlays, character meet-and-greets, trick or treating, the Boo to You Parade, and the Hocus Pocus Villian Spelltacular. Halloween Fireworks Since this is the only time guests can really experience many of these offerings, nights tend to be crowded. Sooo, we expect even longer wait times and pretty hefty firework and parade viewing crowds now that the final nights are sold out! If you’re visiting the party on one of these nights, we suggest planning accordingly. Tarzan and Jane Learn EVERYTHING you need to know about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party here! If you did miss out on the fun this year though, don’t worry! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary is an annual event. This year tickets went on sale in January so keep an eye out for tickets to go on sale sometime near the beginning of 2020. 12. It’s almost Halloween, and that means it’s time for one of our animals’ (and our guests’) favorite enrichment experiences – playing with pumpkins! Enrichment, which can include time with toys, exploring different scents and tasting special, edible treats, is a key part of our animal care program. It enables the animals to make choices about their environment and encourages natural behaviors. They might eat the pumpkins, smash them or even roll them around for a while. It’s fun for members of our animal care team too, who enjoy getting creative in decorating the pumpkins and coming up with new additions, like bugs, seasonings and other tasty treats to encourage foraging. Are you visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park this week? If so, keep your eyes peeled for some surprise and delight pumpkin playtime in many of the animal environments throughout the park, now through Halloween. The fun’s in full swing on Thursday, Oct. 31 at The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot, too. To learn more about enrichment for the animals in our care, visit DisneyAnimals.com. View the full article
  13. Docking Bay 7 has seen a bunch of menu changes in the past few weeks. Docking Bay 7 From the addition of a plant-based “meat” marinara for kids to the removal of the Star Wars-ified names on the menus, it’s pretty difficult to keep up with all of the menu modifications at the popular Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge quick service. Well, fans of the immersive names can celebrate because they’re back… sort of. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is a staple for eats in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That’s probably why there have been a few changes as Disney looks to get the menu just right. We were bummed a few weeks ago to see the Star Wars names like Fried Endorian Tip-Yip exchanged for the more understandable but MUCH less exciting “Fried Chicken.” Boooooriiiiing! Fried Chicken Well now, it looks like Docking Bay 7 has reached a compromise between easy, understandable names and fun Star Wars flavor. We’ve seen an update to the menu today that features a sort of hybrid new naming. Now, you can order Endorian Fried Chicken Tip-Yip or Batuuan Beef Pork Roast. ©Disney Understandable AND immersive! This is a menu change we can get behind. Even the kids’ menu items got the change with the “Meat” Marinara now being called Peka Pasta Rings Youngling Meal. “Meat” Marinara and Pasta Another change in this round of Docking Bay 7 updates is the move of the “Meat” Marinara from the kids’ menu section to the plant-based section of the menu alongside the hummus dish. ©Disney Check out more about Disney’s plant-based menu changes HERE! AND it looks like they’ve tucked in a new alcoholic beverage called the Surly Sarlacc. This should look relatively familiar to those who’ve tried the Sour Sarlacc over at Ronto Roasters. It’s the same base for the drink — limeade with raspberry and spicy mango flavors — but with the addition of Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka. Yum! This option is $13, making it $2 cheaper than the Takodana Quencher. ©Disney Check out our review of the non-alcoholic Sour Sarlacc here! 15. The leader in family cruising will grow its award-winning fleet with imaginative innovations that are uniquely fun and distinctly Disney CELEBRATION, FL – Disney Cruise Line announced plans to build three additional cruise ships, each of them showcasing the immersive family entertainment, enchanting storytelling and unparalleled service that only Disney can deliver. The company has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. “We pride ourselves on the unforgettable vacation experiences we deliver to our guests each and every day, and the expansion of our Disney fleet will allow us to create even more magical memories for families at sea and in incredible cruise destinations around the world,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. The three new ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas and, at approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. First Details on Newest Ship Disney Cruise Line revealed the highly anticipated name of the fifth Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Wish, as well as a first look at the ship’s elegant, three-story atrium and the iconic Disney character that will adorn the ship’s stern. The Disney Wish is scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and is expected to set sail beginning in January 2022. “There couldn’t be a better name for our incredible new ship because making wishes come true is part of the Disney DNA and is at the heart of so many of our cherished stories,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. A new rendering reveals a first look at the ship’s bright and airy three-story atrium, inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale. Stern characters – a beloved hallmark of Disney Cruise Line vessels – have been a tradition of the Disney fleet since the beginning and reflect the theme of each ship. For the Disney Wish, the ship’s stern will feature Rapunzel. Spirited, smart, curious and above all, adventurous, Rapunzel embodies the wish and desire to see and experience the world. “Each Disney Cruise Line ship is unique, with a name that embodies the excitement of sailing with Disney and the power of our stories. The new ships will have the experiences our guests love, as well as all-new magic,” Chapek added. Disney Cruise Line Since first setting sail in 1998, Disney Cruise Line has provided a quintessential family cruise vacation experience that combines the magic of Disney with the thrill of exploring different parts of the world. Guests step aboard majestic and beautiful ocean liners to enjoy legendary Disney entertainment, exquisite dining, spacious and well-appointed staterooms and magnificent public spaces. The company also has been an industry leader in innovation and game-changing creativity. With the launch of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy in 2011 and 2012, the company introduced several firsts for the industry, including a water coaster at sea (AquaDuck) and virtual portholes in interior staterooms (Magical Portholes) that provide real-time views of the sea as well as sightings of animated Disney characters. More details about the Disney Cruise Line fleet expansion and onboard offerings will be announced at a later date. View the full article

  18. We’ve been crying about the FuelRod price increase since we reported that it was coming to Disney World and Disneyland. Swapping Fee Sticker Well, it seems like we’re not the only ones. A Los Angeles law firm has filed as class action lawsuit against FuelRod for the price increase, so it looks like FuelRod customers aren’t happy EN MASSE. According to the OC Register, he lawsuit was filed against the parent companies of FuelRod: Tricopian Inc. and SaveMeBatteries North America. The suit alleges that FuelRod has used false advertising in light of the introduction of the swapping fee. Essentially, FuelRod used to include free swapping to a full charger as a service; and now, as of November, swapping will be $3 each time. FuelRod Station Essentially, the suit argues that the initial cost of FuelRod ($30) is much too expensive for the charger received and that the cost includes use of the swapping service. The firm is seeking $5 million in damages (oof). The lawsuit argues that FuelRod fundamentally changed the primary benefits of the product, especially since cheaper and better chargers are available in the market. 21. There are few things in life more thrilling, exhilarating, and euphoria-inducing than a trip to Disney World. But you know what’s not-so-fun? Dying. Yeah, that would really put a damper on that whole Disney vacation situation that you and your family have been fantasizing about all year! Skyliner sailing to Epcot And right about now you’re probably wondering why in the WORLD we’re writing about this! ;-D Well…we’ve had a LOT of emails, direct messages, and comments recently from readers, followers, and viewers asking if we think the Disney World Skyliner is really “safe.” Yep, even before the recent Skyliner accident, we had some very concerned folks who wanted to know our take on the whole “will I survive my ride in the sky?” question. So here at DFB Headquarters we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the question just how “safe” is Disney World? — from transportation options to rides and attractions to external threats. What exactly happens on- and off-stage to keep you and your family safe while you’re there? So are you going to die at Disney World? Probably not. Here’s why. Concern #1: Transportation The Skyliner Most immediate in our minds, of course, is the recent Disney Skyliner collision that left guests stranded in the air for over 3 hours. What a major bummer for everyone involved (especially ’cause it happened less than a week after the Skyliner had debuted!), but although guests were very inconvenienced by the event, they were also quite safe the whole time they were stuck. The collision that occurred wasn’t a major accident in that people were harmed, but rather the gondolas experienced a malfunction causing them to back up in the station and stop the lines. Disney World Skyliner Rescue Vehicles And any time a Disney attraction has a “hiccup” (or in this case, a REALLY big hiccup!), Disney immediately stops the ride and performs a multi-step safety check to protect guests from any further malfunctioning. Chances are, you’ve probably experienced a few safety checks before on a Disney ride without ever realizing it when your vehicle paused momentarily and then resumed motion once again when the issue was all-cleared! Read more about the Skyliner reopening HERE! The Monorail There have also been several concerns raised over the years with Disney World’s Monorail System. And in fact, its track record has been less than stellar at times. We’re talkin’ train pieces falling off and doors opening while the train’s in motion. Yeah, although it’s an iconic part of the Disney World, it can also be one sketchy ride every once in a while! Disney World Monorail In 2009, following a fatal crash involving the Purple Monorail, Disney World stopped allowing guests to ride in the front driver car as an extra safety measure. (Guests are still able to ride in the front driver car in Disneyland.) Disney inspects the cars and tracks daily to ensure these sorts of incidents don’t repeat. If you heed the warnings to keep clear of the doors (por favor manténganse alejado de las puertas) and not to lean against them, you probably won’t fall out ;-D. But in all seriousness, although your safety is paramount to Disney while you’re on their property, it should still be a major concern of yours as well. Make sure you read all of the posted signs and listen to the safety recordings, too! Green Monorail So, while it’s had maintenance issues and can be inconvenient, there’s no empirically sound reason to think that the Disney World monorail is a particularly dangerous mode of transportation. Take a look at the newest changes to the Monorails here! Buses and Watercraft Same rules apply here, folks. Buses and boats at Disney operate in the same real-world rules as they do outside those magical welcome gates. Daisy Duck Bus While there have been accidents in the past, they are primarily inconveniencing rather than injurious. Buses and boats at Disney are safe and reliable forms of guest transportation, but they are still large moving vehicles. Remain seated or hold on to safety handles and do as the drivers instruct at all times. Buses and watercraft will not be overloaded in order to maintain guest safety. Learn more about the newest Disney World bus upgrades here! Concern #2: Attractions From thrilling roller coasters that whip you around like a ragdoll to thirteen-story repeated freefall drops, Disney World attractions are comprised of highly sophisticated computer systems and machinery intent on making your adrenaline spike — safely. You’ll enjoy many unforgettable experiences the Disney parks. None of these are life-threatening, but at the same time, you may be asking yourself, “Will I actually make it off this thing in one piece?” Tower of Terror Hey, it’s a totally fair question to ask yourself! But rest assured, there are many safety measures in place for these rides in order for them to operate at Disney World continuously on a daily basis for the millions of guests that visit each year. Ride and Attraction Safety Procedures Every morning before the parks open, Cast Members perform safety checks by cycling the ride vehicles and walking through the entire length of the ride tracks. This process is usually verified by a second Cast Member so there are at least two sets of eyes on everything. Expedition Everest Then there are the third-shift Cast Members, including ride mechanics and ride safety specialists, who work overnight every night on each attraction to run routine safety inspections, address any bugs that may have popped up during the day, and of course, ensure the attraction is safe for guests the following day. Dinosaur There are also many sensors and fail-safes in place throughout each attraction that at a moment’s notice will immediately stop a ride if something goes awry. (That explains one of the reasons why sometimes your Doombuggy pauses! Other reasons for ride vehicles stopping or slowing include allowing guests with mobility difficulties on and off the ride — another safety measure.) Space Mountain Overlay The Cast Members of each attraction are thoroughly trained to know all of the safety features that are specific to the ride they’re assigned and will respond swiftly and accordingly should something go wrong. Height Requirements Height requirements are also set for each attraction to ensure your and your family’s safety when riding them, and sometimes your littles will need to pass through two height checkpoints to verify they’re tall enough to ride, just to be on the safe side! But as a Disney World guest, it’s important to do your part to help ensure your safety as well. If your child is too short, don’t try to cheat the system. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Might Have to Wait Til Next Trip if Junior is Too Short! But even though these security measures are in place, it’s still up to you to look out for your own safety. Read the posted warnings and make sure you are physically able to handle the ride you’re about to step onto and don’t have any medical issues that might be exacerbated by the attraction. Once aboard, be sure to listen carefully and abide by the Cast Members instructions to keep your lap belt fastened, remove any loose articles that may fly off during the ride, and keep your hands and arms inside the ride vehicle at all times, people! And of course, no wild dancing. Concern #3: Wildlife While we would like to think that Disney World exists in its own safe little bubble, the reality is that Disney World is located smack dab in the middle of Central Florida, a.k.a. a literal swampland. There are many native animals (including potentially dangerous snakes and reptiles) that inhabited these lands long before Mickey Mouse came along, and they continue to live there to this day. Polynesian Resort Beach Disney World attempts to prevent potentially dangerous brushes with wildlife from occurring by monitoring their grounds, posting signage near potentially hazardous areas, and creating physical barriers where deemed necessary. Disney does routinely patrol the waters for wildlife and relocates any found to safe locations. However, even without a sign, rope, or fence, don’t assume it’s safe to leave small children unattended, or to be less than cautious yourself, especially around the lakes, lagoons, and places where alligators and snakes may have taken up residence. The threat of wildlife is probably one of the most significant for you when in Walt Disney World, so be diligent. Concern #4: Outside Threats Like we said before, Disney World exists in the real world, and not some fairy tale. It is situated in a heavily-populated area of the country (with Disneyland being even more densely surrounded), and is visited by multi-millions every year. Disney employs a large team of diligent, dedicated security Cast Members who take your safety very seriously. A Disney spokesperson says this of Disney’s security: “We have a comprehensive approach to security that includes measures that are visible and others that are not.” You know those screening Cast Members at bag check every morning who ask you to open every zipper and every pouch inside your bag? That thoroughness is all for you! These cast members are checking for weapons (Disney has also instituted metal detectors at all park entrances now), glass, illegal items, and alcohol, among other banned items or contraband. Hollywood Studios Bag Check Plus, the Disney parks’ security department extends to other employees you won’t see at all on your visit! Disney has “plain clothes operatives,” or PCO’s, that are exactly what they sound like: security dressed in seemingly every day, “plain” attire. There is also local law enforcement outside of Disney World that work daily with the resort to ensure guest safety. You probably have never detected these special operators, but trust us, they’re all around you when you’re visiting Disney World! Airspace is also restricted in the 3,000 feet above, and in a three-mile radius of, Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom. Aircraft can fly higher than 3,000 feet over the Magic Kingdom, but they can’t get any closer than that. So while Disney World is vulnerable to outside threats, they’ve put policies and procedures into place — many just in the last 20 years — to lower the risk of an attack of any kind in the parks. You’re likely safer here than you are in your shopping mall back home. So Just How “Safe” Is Disney World? Have people died in Disney World? Yes. There is a belief that Disney World insists that death pronouncements happen off property so that there’s no record of anyone having actually died within the resort gates. We’re not sure how true that is, but either way, there have been fatal accidents both recently and in the past. And while accidents can and do happen in Disney World, they are thankfully VERY few and far between. Over 50 million — 50 MILLION — people visit Walt Disney World every year, and the fact that accidents here usually still make the national news means that they’re not prevalent (if they were, they wouldn’t be “news”). Rest assured, Disney World is just as safe — if not significantly safer — than many other places in the country. These parks and resorts have a vested interest in ensuring that you have a positive experience, and there are many people who are working to make sure that happens so that you’ll return for another vacation. Disney is all about guest satisfaction and guests can’t be satisfied if, well…they’re in danger. So if you’re concerned about the Skyliner, Tower of Terror, Rock and Roller Coaster, or any other thrill ride or transportation option in Disney World, I hope this article has put your mind at least a bit more at ease. Nope; you’re probably NOT going to die in Disney World. Do you feel like Disney provides adequate safety precautions to its guests?
