  3. There’s something so special about the magnificent gingerbread houses at Disney World during the holidays! 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House Is it that they’re positively MASSIVE? Or maybe the level of detail that the artists put into these cookie-based creations? Whatever the reason, we keep coming back year after year to see the awesome gingerbread artwork to be found around Disney World. If you’re like us, you won’t want to miss out on any of the displays! We’ve compiled a helpful list to make sure that you can check off seeing all the gingerbread creations around Disney World this year! Though many of the displays haven’t gone up yet, here’s what you can expect to see based on last year’s festivities. Start planning your Gingerbread crawl now!! Contemporary Resort There is one gingerbread house we’ve already seen coming up this year in Disney World — and really it’s more of a gingerbread castle! That’s right, we’ve already seen some progress on the much-loved Contemporary resort display of Cinderella Castle in gingerbread form. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House This display is always a favorite and is designed as a tribute to Mary Blair, a formative Imagineer in the designing of “it’s a small world!” as well the artist behind the HUGE Grand Canyon Concourse Mural in the main lobby of the Contemporary! We can likely expect to see some familiar faces on the finished product as last year’s rendition featured cute versions of Cinderella, Prince Charming, and the Fairy Godmother. 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House This display can be found on the 4th floor of the Contemporary Resort and is a must-see for those looking for stunning gingerbread houses this holiday season! 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House This spot has previously been open daily from 10AM til 10PM and features a Gingerbread Snack Stand (if all that gingerbread has left you craving some sweets!). You can pick up various cookies and sweets in this spot daily! Check out last year’s Contemporary gingerbread display here! Grand Floridian Resort Now, we haven’t seen any progress on gingerbread displays outside of the Contemporary yet, but there are a couple of spots that we can safely assume from previous years are a’comin! One of the longest-standing of these is the MASSIVE Grand Floridian Gingerbread House which has been crafted in the Grand Floridian’s lobby for 20 years! Check out last year’s version here! 2018 Grand Floridian Gingerbread House This display is 14 feet tall and made with a RIDICULOUS amount of ingredients. Think 1,050 lbs of honey, 800 lbs of flour, 600 lbs of chocolate, 600 lbs of powdered sugar, 140 pints of egg whites, and 35 lbs of spices. Plus, it takes an entire team of pastry chefs to construct. Sheesh! It’s no wonder this display is a favorite, it sure is big enough to hold some serious holiday cheer! 2018 Grand Floridian Gingerbread House We’ll keep an eye out for construction to begin on this iconic gingerbread house likely in the next few days. It’s definitely worth a Monorail ride to see! 2018 Grand Floridian Gingerbread House The house itself is actually its own gingerbread shop! Guests can purchase a variety of cookies and sweets including one of our favorites — gingerbread roof shingles! This shop is open typically 10AM til 10PM and during busy times of day when families are coming or going, the line can get pretty long! It’s well worth a trip to see though. The roof even puffs out smoke! Christmas cuteness overload!! See last year’s Grand Floridian gingerbread house here! BoardWalk Inn A more recent addition to the line-up of famous Disney gingerbread is the display at the BoardWalk Inn. This display first popped up in 2017 and depicts a cute gingerbread version of the shops along the BoardWalk. In 2018 it had loads of teeny tiny amazing additions and new details! We’re assuming this one will return for 2019, and we’re hoping it might have some cool new surprises in store again! 2018 BoardWalk Gingerbread Display Pastry chefs at the BoardWalk develop this display each year with the BoardWalk Bakery as the main piece (they WOULD focus on the bakery! Those bakers gotta represent!). 2018 BoardWalk Gingerbread Display This display is sure to delight when it appears in the BoardWalk lobby this year so be sure to make time to swing by and see it! Take a look at the amazing details in last year’s BoardWalk Inn gingerbread display! The Beach Club For a more whimsical approach to holiday displays, follow the smell of gingerbread to Disney’s Beach Club where we’re expecting to see the Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel pop up in the next few weeks! The Carousel is a much-loved gingerbread display and we look forward to it each year! Plus, it actually spins! 2018 Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel Every year, the theme changes on the Carousel. Last year it was dedicated to Donald and Daisy so we can’t wait to see what the theme is this year! Something fun to keep an eye out for: the names of the chocolate horses change every year too! 2018 Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel This is typically another huge one, as in 2,029 pieces of gingerbread huge! 2018 Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel The detail is off the charts and we’ve spent hours looking at all the hard work put into it in the past! We can’t wait to see this display pop up at the Beach Club. Check out last year’s Beach Club gingerbread carousel! Amorette’s Patisserie You’ll likely be able to find some gingerbread outside of the resorts too! Last year, we spotted a super cute gingerbread display at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs to go along with all the fun holiday treats there. 2018 Amorette’s Patisserie Gingerbread Display Last year’s display featured a gingerbread Amorette’s and tons of pretty chocolate Christmas trees. This display tends to change up from year to year. So, who’s to say if the display will be the same this year? We’ll have to wait and see to find out! 2018 Amorette’s Patisserie Gingerbread Display The master pastry chefs and decorators over at Amorette’s know a thing or two about how to make beautiful works of art out of baked goods, so naturally they knock it out of the park each year! Take a peek at last year’s gingerbread creation at Amorette’s here! And More! We’ve also previously spotted a gingerbread version of the capital building in the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot. It’s likely this patriotic holiday delight will return as well. Check out that candy cane roof! Washington, D.C. Gingerbread Display And, there will possibly be even more gingerbread delights to find in Disney World this season! Many of the resorts that don’t have formal displays still often do a showcase of Cast Member created gingerbread houses that can be positively charming (and pretty impressive!). Don’t miss out on any of the wonderful Disney gingerbread houses this holiday season! We’ll keep you updated as sweet structures rise around property! In the meantime, you can check out our tour of the gingerbread creations around Disney World last year, and happy (early) holidays! Which Disney gingerbread display is your favorite? 8. Halloween is here, and you’re in for a special treat! To celebrate, we have some spooktacular math facts to share with you! If you’ve ever visited Magic Kingdom Park during the fall, you’ve probably noticed the charming wreaths, friendly scarecrows, and giant pumpkins that festively decorate Main Street, U.S.A. So, grab your rulers and calculators, because we’re going to unveil the frightfully fun numbers behind some of our favorite fall decorations! The grinning pumpkin towers located at the front entrance are happy to greet you! Did you know that the left pumpkin is approximately 43 inches wide and 120 inches tall? Before you take your class picture in front of the train station, make sure to count that there are 12 little pumpkins nestled in the Mickey Mouse floral bed! As you enter Main Street, U.S.A. there are 8 friendly scarecrows located around the flagpole, ready for trick-or-treating! How fun! Don’t forget to look up! There are approximately 155 individual pumpkins adorning the buildings and windows of Main Street, U.S.A. Did you know that many of them are themed to their location? One of the most iconic decorations is the Mickey Mouse pumpkin wreath! The diameter of the wreath is approximately 26 inches. How would you calculate the circumference of the wreath? 9. Artistry, inspiration and imagination are everywhere to be found at Disney’s Riviera Resort, the newest upcoming Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Vacation Club property. Today, I’m thrilled to give you a first look at a truly splendid element of the resort. A walkway tunnel at Disney’s Riviera Resort will feature two stunning mosaic murals showcasing Disney storytelling of European tales. The original stories that inspired these murals were included in the collection of over 300 books that Walt Disney sent back to his studios while traveling Europe in the 1930s. The use of mosaics for the murals celebrates the beauty of the art style, materials and craftsmanship. Both mosaic murals will be massive installations, recessed into the tunnel walls and spanning across the arched ceiling. Each of the two pieces will feature a unique story set along the tunnel wall and will be joined at the top by a shared mosaic sky, rising 20 feet in the air. The mural you’re seeing today shows a magical scene of London at night, with Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John flying off to Neverland. More than 500,000 hand-cut tiles were laid by hand to create this amazing mosaic! Now that you’ve seen a sneak peek at one of the two magnificent murals coming to Disney’s Riviera Resort, what’s your guess at the beloved story the other mosaic will depict? Disney’s Riviera Resort is under construction now and projected to open Dec. 16, 2019. For more information or to make hotel reservations, visit the Walt Disney World Resort website or call 407-939-7762 or your travel agent. View the full article
  10. Happy Halloween! Today, we’re concluding our look at Disney’s best witch and sorcerer characters with a look at Yen Sid, who appeared in “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” section of the 1940 film “Fantasia.” Yen Sid’s trademark sorcerer’s hat holds all sorts of magical powers – as Mickey Mouse found out when he borrowed the hat. According to artist Ashley Taylor, if Yen Side had a chance to visit a Disney park, he’d likely head to Magic Kingdom Park to chase down his magical hat one more time. “Yen Sid’s hat allows him to be a powerful sorcerer,” she said. “It’s easy to imagine him wanting to recover his hat from Donald Duck at Mickey’s PhilharMagic.” View the full article

  12. It was just your average day at Disney’s BoardWalk when we stumbled upon something HUGE!! Disney’s BoardWalk An Ice Cream Taco has arrived at Ample Hills Creamery! That’s right, the trendy treat we’ve recently seen in similar incarnations at Disney Springs is now available at Disney’s outpost of the Brooklyn-based craft ice cream company. Ample Hills Creamery Behold, the Ample Hills Creamery Ice Cream Taco! Ample Hills Creamery Ice Cream Taco It’s priced at $8.99 and comes with UNLIMITED toppings… that’s right, AS. MUCH. AS. YOU. WANT. Challenge Accepted! But first, decisions. decisions. Which flavor of their delicious ice cream should we get? Ample Hills Creamery Flavor Menu The metaphorical cherry on top of this sundae was when we asked how many scoops would be in the taco and the Cast Member replied: “AS MUCH AS I CAN FIT!” We LOVE that kind of answer! We ultimately decided on Baked/Unbaked and Ample Hill’s signature Ooey Gooey Butter Cake! Ooey Gooey Butter Cake We were shocked by the final product! It was PACKED! Taco ’bout a dessert! Ice Cream Taco From a side angle, you could see just how much ice cream was jammed in there. The Waffle Cone was absolutely amazing and tasted super fresh. And since you can choose your flavors, the outcome will really depend on which flavors you choose to put together. We loved the blend of the Baked/Unbaked and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. Of course, since this is little sugar overload, you can expect this to be a pretty sweet treat. Ice Cream Taco And since there’s SO MUCH stuffed in there, it may even be a good snack option to share with your family or friends. While the sign read “It’s always ice cream weather here,” it was your typical Florida day and this thing melted pretty fast! Word to the wise…eat up! Ice Cream Taco We HIGHLY recommend this delicious new treat, which also happens to be very photogenic! We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the NEW Ample Hills location opening in Disney Springs will bring even more fun new treats. Read all about the new Ample Hills location here! 21. Halloween is tomorrow which means the spooky season is coming to an end! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party We love celebrating Halloween time at Disney World especially with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party which takes place on select nights from August to November in Magic Kingdom. And, apparently, we’re not the only ones… The last two nights of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary are upon us, with the event closing out for the season on November 1st. And sadly, we come bearing bad news if you were hoping for those last-minute tickets because both Halloween and November 1st have officially sold out! These dates tend to be pretty popular since they fall on or near the holiday itself, so this news comes with very little shock. Headless Horseman is the harbinger of the Boo To You Parade This year, Disney introduced a new firework show and a few yummy and new treats. The event also includes attraction overlays, character meet-and-greets, trick or treating, the Boo to You Parade, and the Hocus Pocus Villian Spelltacular. Halloween Fireworks Since this is the only time guests can really experience many of these offerings, nights tend to be crowded. Sooo, we expect even longer wait times and pretty hefty firework and parade viewing crowds now that the final nights are sold out! If you’re visiting the party on one of these nights, we suggest planning accordingly. Tarzan and Jane Learn EVERYTHING you need to know about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party here! If you did miss out on the fun this year though, don’t worry! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary is an annual event. 22. It’s almost Halloween, and that means it’s time for one of our animals’ (and our guests’) favorite enrichment experiences – playing with pumpkins! Enrichment, which can include time with toys, exploring different scents and tasting special, edible treats, is a key part of our animal care program. It enables the animals to make choices about their environment and encourages natural behaviors. They might eat the pumpkins, smash them or even roll them around for a while. It’s fun for members of our animal care team too, who enjoy getting creative in decorating the pumpkins and coming up with new additions, like bugs, seasonings and other tasty treats to encourage foraging. Are you visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park this week? If so, keep your eyes peeled for some surprise and delight pumpkin playtime in many of the animal environments throughout the park, now through Halloween. The fun’s in full swing on Thursday, Oct. 31 at The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot, too. To learn more about enrichment for the animals in our care, visit DisneyAnimals.com. View the full article
  23. Docking Bay 7 has seen a bunch of menu changes in the past few weeks. Docking Bay 7 From the addition of a plant-based “meat” marinara for kids to the removal of the Star Wars-ified names on the menus, it’s pretty difficult to keep up with all of the menu modifications at the popular Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge quick service. Well, fans of the immersive names can celebrate because they’re back… sort of. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is a staple for eats in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That’s probably why there have been a few changes as Disney looks to get the menu just right. We were bummed a few weeks ago to see the Star Wars names like Fried Endorian Tip-Yip exchanged for the more understandable but MUCH less exciting “Fried Chicken.” Boooooriiiiing! Fried Chicken Well now, it looks like Docking Bay 7 has reached a compromise between easy, understandable names and fun Star Wars flavor. We’ve seen an update to the menu today that features a sort of hybrid new naming. Now, you can order Endorian Fried Chicken Tip-Yip or Batuuan Beef Pork Roast. ©Disney Understandable AND immersive! This is a menu change we can get behind. Even the kids’ menu items got the change with the “Meat” Marinara now being called Peka Pasta Rings Youngling Meal. “Meat” Marinara and Pasta Another change in this round of Docking Bay 7 updates is the move of the “Meat” Marinara from the kids’ menu section to the plant-based section of the menu alongside the hummus dish. ©Disney Check out more about Disney’s plant-based menu changes HERE! AND it looks like they’ve tucked in a new alcoholic beverage called the Surly Sarlacc. This should look relatively familiar to those who’ve tried the Sour Sarlacc over at Ronto Roasters. It’s the same base for the drink — limeade with raspberry and spicy mango flavors — but with the addition of Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka. Yum! This option is $13, making it $2 cheaper than the Takodana Quencher. ©Disney Check out our review of the non-alcoholic Sour Sarlacc here! Maybe this will be the last round of changes to the Docking Bay 7 menu for a while, but if it isn’t we’ll be sure to keep you updated! Docking Bay 7 has been keeping us on our toes recently! 25. The leader in family cruising will grow its award-winning fleet with imaginative innovations that are uniquely fun and distinctly Disney CELEBRATION, FL – Disney Cruise Line announced plans to build three additional cruise ships, each of them showcasing the immersive family entertainment, enchanting storytelling and unparalleled service that only Disney can deliver. The company has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. “We pride ourselves on the unforgettable vacation experiences we deliver to our guests each and every day, and the expansion of our Disney fleet will allow us to create even more magical memories for families at sea and in incredible cruise destinations around the world,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. The three new ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas and, at approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. First Details on Newest Ship Disney Cruise Line revealed the highly anticipated name of the fifth Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Wish, as well as a first look at the ship’s elegant, three-story atrium and the iconic Disney character that will adorn the ship’s stern. The Disney Wish is scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and is expected to set sail beginning in January 2022. “There couldn’t be a better name for our incredible new ship because making wishes come true is part of the Disney DNA and is at the heart of so many of our cherished stories,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. A new rendering reveals a first look at the ship’s bright and airy three-story atrium, inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale. Stern characters – a beloved hallmark of Disney Cruise Line vessels – have been a tradition of the Disney fleet since the beginning and reflect the theme of each ship. For the Disney Wish, the ship’s stern will feature Rapunzel. Spirited, smart, curious and above all, adventurous, Rapunzel embodies the wish and desire to see and experience the world. “Each Disney Cruise Line ship is unique, with a name that embodies the excitement of sailing with Disney and the power of our stories. The new ships will have the experiences our guests love, as well as all-new magic,” Chapek added. Disney Cruise Line Since first setting sail in 1998, Disney Cruise Line has provided a quintessential family cruise vacation experience that combines the magic of Disney with the thrill of exploring different parts of the world. Guests step aboard majestic and beautiful ocean liners to enjoy legendary Disney entertainment, exquisite dining, spacious and well-appointed staterooms and magnificent public spaces. The company also has been an industry leader in innovation and game-changing creativity. With the launch of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy in 2011 and 2012, the company introduced several firsts for the industry, including a water coaster at sea (AquaDuck) and virtual portholes in interior staterooms (Magical Portholes) that provide real-time views of the sea as well as sightings of animated Disney characters. More details about the Disney Cruise Line fleet expansion and onboard offerings will be announced at a later date. View the full article
