  3. It’s time to get your art on during the fourth Epcot International Festival of the Arts! Step inside the new life-sized frames of Van Gogh’s famous Café Terrace at Night or Sunflowers paintings to star in an Artful Photo Op. Taste culinary wonders at the 12 festival Food Studios, presenting artfully crafted dishes and libations. Watch uber-talented artists at work, then take home your favorite pieces. Grab a seat for an unforgettable complimentary performance of the Disney on Broadway Concert Series. It’s all happening now through Feb. 24 at this fourth annual Epcot festival celebrating the visual, culinary and performing arts. You can even exercise your own artistic talent at multiple interactive exhibits and workshops. Bring the family for fun-filled activities like Figment’s Brush with the Masters scavenger hunt, Animation Academy at America Gardens Theatre and the Expression Section: Paint-by-Number wall mural in Future World. Interact with the Epcot Living Statues (laughs guaranteed!) in Future World East, and marvel at acrobatic performances of the Art Defying Gravity troupe at the World Showcase Plaza stage. 6. So you’re going to Disney World next week… Tree of Life Well, lucky you! Disney World is a magical place filled with things to do. And that’s a good thing because there are a few activities that you’ll sadly have to miss out on next week due to refurbishments. No worries though, it just gives you more time to try your hardest to do everything else! Here’s everything closed next week (that’s January 20th through January 26th) in Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios! Refurbishments in Magic Kingdom Splash Mountain Splash Mountain remains closed next week as it undergoes its annual refurbishment. This might not seem like too big of a hit as we’re definitely in the chilliest time of year for central Florida, so maybe getting soaking wet wasn’t in your plans anyways. Splash is currently set to reopen next month on February 28th. Splash Mountain Refurbishment Click here for everything you need to know about the Splash Mountain closure! Walt Disney World Railroad Still no train rides around Magic Kingdom as the Walt Disney World Railroad remains closed until further notice. The track, unfortunately, goes through TRON Lightcycle Run, so the train will remain stationed at Main Street Station (go grab a photo!) until construction reaches a point that the track can be used. The coaster is expected to debut sometime before Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021 so that’s most likely the latest the train would be closed. Magic Kingdom Train Station Want more info on TRON Lightcycle Run? Click here! Refurbishments in Epcot Test Track and Test Track SIMporium Though all of the theaters are now back open around Epcot as of today, there’s still one big name attraction that you’ll miss out on next week. Test Track and Test Track SIMporium remain closed this week for routine maintenance. We should be racing around again on February 26th, though! Test Track Will you be missing Test Track while it’s gone? Click here! Refurbishments in Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids If news of water wide closures upsets you, then this definitely isn’t your week. The wettest ride in Disney World is closed until March 21st for routine maintenance. So, no adventures on Kali River Rapids next week. Kali River Rapids Click here to learn more about the Kali River Rapids closure! Water Parks Typhoon Lagoon With Blizzard Beach opening back up this weekend, we’ll also see the closure of Typhoon Lagoon. This is a standard winter water park closure and the park will reopen in mid-March. Seriously, not the best week for a watery Disney trip. Typhoon Lagoon And, with no refurbishments in Hollywood Studios, that’s all the closures in Disney World this week! As always, we’ll let you know if anything changes! Next week is the Epcot International Festival of the Arts! Check out EVERYTHING there is to do! Which attraction are you the saddest to miss? Tell us in the comments! 8. Today was a big day for our Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and ESSENCE Magazine. We announced names of the 100 extraordinary high school students from across the nation who will be part of the 2020 class that will take place in March at the Walt Disney World Resort. To celebrate the moment, ABC’s Good Morning America visited a school this morning to surprise a student with the news that she was “going to Disney World.” Myah Mitchell of Cambria Heights, NY, and her classmates got the surprise of a lifetime when Keke Palmer, co-host of ABC’s GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke, walked in to tell Myah that she was selected to be part of the 2020 class of Disney Dreamers. And it all happened live on national TV! Keke then whisked Myah off to the ABC Times Square Studios to meet up with two other Disney Dreamers – Nicole Hemphill from Newark, Delaware, and Patric Boyd from Atlanta, Georgia. The three were special guests on today’s GMA3 where the anchors shined a spotlight on the students and commended them for their incredible accomplishment. Here’s a look at some of this exciting day. Each of the 100 students chosen for this year’s class will get an all-expenses-paid-trips to Walt Disney World for the three-day event where they’ll embark on a journey throughout the four theme parks and behind the scenes of this 40-square-mile vacation destination. They’ll discover new career opportunities, pursue their dreams, and interact with Steve Harvey and other celebrities and industry professionals. You can see the full list at www.DisneyDreamersAcademy.com. Now in its 13th year, Disney Dreamers Academy is part of Walt Disney World’s commitment to helping the next generation of young people by inspiring them at a critical time in their development. The Disney Dreamers Academy theme is “Be100,” encouraging teens to be positive, to be “all in” and to carry what they learn back with them so they can relentlessly pursue their dreams and make a difference in the lives of others. 12. If you’re visiting the “House of Mouse” and are havin’ a Big Mac attack, you’re outta luck! McDonald’s That’s because while the former on-property McDonalds located over by the Disney’s Animal Kingdom used to look like this, it now looks like… …THIS! Yowzah! It looks like the restaurant is being completely REMODELED! And to us, it appears the new Disney World McDonalds will be much bigger than its ancestor! At least that’s what we’re hoping! McDonald’s The McDonald’s location closed last October to undergo a lengthy refurb. We did have our suspicions this was going to be an extensive renovation when an employee at the restaurant told us they wouldn’t be re-opening until sometime in March of 2020. Actually, this construction site kinda reminds us of the teardown happening over at Epcot’s Future World where we’ve seen the former Fountain View Starbucks and Club Cool ripped down to just the studs! McDonald’s It looks like we’ll be waiting quite a while longer before we enjoy some Disney park Mickey D’s again — you know, the OTHER MICKEY, not the MOUSE! McDonald’s We’ll keep you posted on the McDonald’s construction as it progresses and let you know when it’s getting closer to re-opening! Until then, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter for all the latest developments! Are you a fan of stopping by the Disney World McDonald’s? The diagnosis derailed Yang’s training and led to five months of chemotherapy – but none of that stopped her from running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon last Saturday. As a United States Army veteran and a first responder during the Sept. 11 World Trade Center tragedy, Heather knew she had the strength and determination to fight for her life. In March 2019, she completed chemotherapy and began a new journey as a cancer survivor, which included getting back to one of the things she loves most – running. Eight months ago, Heather began training in her hometown of Chicago for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, and last weekend, she completed the 13.1-mile race, fulfilling a dream that didn’t appear possible a year ago. Walt Disney World Resort holds a special place in Yang’s heart. She and her husband spent their first vacation, their honeymoon, and several anniversaries at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Now, Heather can proudly add that it was where she completed her first half marathon, completing a journey that almost never got started. The Walt Disney World Marathon weekend was the second of six race weekends during the 2019-20 runDisney season, with the next race weekend being the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, February 20–23, at Walt Disney World Resort. 18. We’ve been hanging around Disney California Adventure A LOT lately! We were here for Anaheim Ducks Day, not to mention our playdate with the Bing Bong Krispy Treat! Award Wieners And while we recently stopped by Award Wieners to try their new savory Asada Fries (read about ’em HERE!), we just HAD to sample their sweet fry offering as well — the Apple Pie Funnel Cake Fries! The Apple Pie Funnel Cake Fries are tasty strips of fried funnel cake batter which resemble French fries, that are tossed in a cinnamon-sugar coating, and then are topped with apple pie filling, a generous dollop of whipped cream, drizzled with caramel sauce, and dusted with a sprinkling of streusel crumbles! Swoon! Award Wieners Menu And just how GOOD does this thing look?! We’re literally tripping over ourselves as we look for a spot to hunker down with this plate of deliciousness! Apple Pie Funnel Cake Fries The flavors are PURE Americana! That apple pie filling is MY-OH-MY tasty with the crispy, but the soft-in-the-middle funnel cake fries is really the star of the show! We just wish there were a few more of them for dunking in all that delicious whipped cream and caramel sauce! And, this is kind of a fork-necessary situation (I know, who eats fries with a FORK?), but the pieces of apple are rather large and unpleasant to pick up with your fingers! We’re talkin’ Sticky City! Apple Pie Funnel Cake Fries We scored the Apple Pie Funnel Cake Fries for $8.99 at Award Wieners in Disney California Adventure — and don’t forget! The park’s annual Lunar New Year celebration kicks off TOMORROW, which means there’ll be EVEN MORE eats to try at the many festival food booths! Tomorrow can’t come soon enough (we’re hungry for ALL the Lunar New Year eats!), so check back as we’ll be trying and reviewing ’em live from the party! 20. There is so much happening at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure this week! Between the Lunar New Year festivities, and the opening of Rise of the Resistance, it can be hard to keep up with all of the other amazing things happening throughout the parks! Award Wieners That’s why today, we stopped over at Disney California Adventure to give you our thoughts on one seriously eye-catching menu item! Disney California Adventure is turning up the heat at Award Wieners with their Carne Asada Fries that we shared with you a few days ago. The filmstrip fries are topped with marinated carne asada, cheddar cheese, cilantro and onion, with Salsa de Arbol, and guacamole. Um, YUM! Award Weiners Menu We knew this was going to be a literal handful of food to consume, but we were eager to get a taste for ourselves! Carne Asada Fries The big takeaway here was HEAT. The meat was definitely spicy, but nothing we couldn’t handle! We actually found the meat to be super flavorful, without being spicy kick becoming too overwhelming. Carne Asada Fries The meat has a lot of other flavors to help it from getting too spicy. It blends nicely with the cheddar cheese and guacamole that are also loaded onto the plate! Carne Asada Fries If you have an appetite for loads of flavor with a healthy dose of heat, head over to Award Wieners in Disney California Adventure to grab a plate of Carne Asada Fries for $10.49. Speaking of SPICY, check out the new additions coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland — including a spicy twist on Green Milk! 22. March 4th feels so close and yet SO FAR AWAY! ©Disney And why does March 4th matter so much to us? Because it’s the opening day of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Hollywood Studios (and the opening of Flower and Garden for you festival lovers)! We’ve still got about a month and a half to go in our wait, but Disney’s been making it a little easier on us with the release of a series of poster art counting down to the opening, and the third one in the series just appeared! So, while you’re biding your time until March, why not take a look? The new poster is for the Mickey Mouse short “Split Decision” which features Donald in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde-esque plotline. What happens when you separate the angry from Donald Duck? It’s a pretty scary question; one that Professor Von Drake decides to investigate. As all things go when mouse rules apply, antics ensue. ©Disney These posters will likely be in the queue area for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway as guests are “headed to the premiere of a new short.” Of course, you’ll actually be headed to the ride vehicle and be whisked away INTO the new short but that’s neither here nor there. The posters will decorate the lobby of the theatre and you’ll be able to spot these exclusive designs as you head towards the ride. Pretty neat! Three-Legged Race Poster We can’t wait until we’re actually standing in the Chinese Theatre again to ride along with Mickey and Minnie. In the meantime though, we’ll just have to stare at these pictures — and watch the Mickey shorts of course! Click here to see the past posters in the countdown series! And don’t forget to take a look at the NEW piece of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway merch that just hit the scene in Disney World — here! Have you seen the “Split Decision” short? 23. We’re steppin’ out in Animal Kingdom today to see what news the day brings! Discovery Island January can be a slower month around Disney World, so updates tend to be a little more few and far between. Animal Kingdom definitely doesn’t have TOO much in the way of new stuff going on, but they do have a new cocktail and isn’t that enough? For us, yes! Here’s everything new in Animal Kingdom in food, construction, and merchandise! Animal Kingdom Food Updates Discovery Island First off, we saw a handful of menu updates around the park today. Over at Nomad Lounge, we noticed that the Wagyu Bowl was no longer on the menu. Sad day, because we certainly loved this tender, meaty meal! To make up for it though, the poutine has been updated to the Truffle Poutine, and we can always go for those super truffle-y flavors! Nomad Lounge Click here to learn more about the Truffle Poutine! Oddly enough, Eight Spoon Cafe was closed yesterday, which isn’t the norm! While we weren’t expecting this closure, we suppose it can be hit or miss to see it open during slower times of the year. Either way, we’ll keep an eye on it for ya! Eight Spoon Cafe Africa Now, let’s talk about that NEW COCKTAIL! The SnowTini debuted at Dawa Bar, and it’s super adorable! For $17, it’s a yummy blend of Snow Leopard Vodka, Blue Curaçao, Peach Schnapps, Pineapple Juice, Shredded Coconut, and a Glow Cube. This drink isn’t on the regular menu, and isn’t likely to be around forever, so make sure to give it a try while you can! SnowTini Want to see our FULL REVIEW of the SnowTini? Click here! Animal Kingdom Construction Updates Africa We spotted some new signage at Tusker House with an updated display board. All the information is the same, but now there are pictures where it used to just be words. How cute! Tusker House Signage Animal Kingdom Merchandise Updates Riverside Depot There was one new-to-us piece of merch available at Riverside Depot. We’ve been loving the Rock the Dots collection that we’ve been spotting around the parks, and now we found this cute six-pack of Minnie bracelets for $9.99! Minnie Mouse Bracelet Pack Click here to see more of the Rock the Dots collection! We had to see what they looked like on because we thought the shape might look a little odd, but we think it makes for a cute, kinda funky accessory! Minnie Mouse Bracelet Pack And there you have it! 24. If you are planning on visiting Hollywood Studios in the next month, you may want to double-check your itineraries. A fan-favorite show is set to undergo a brief refurbishment. Muppet Vision 3-D While we share a look at what will be down for refurbishment each week, we thought we’d give you guys a bit more of a heads up about another attraction. It looks like Muppet*Vision 3D is closing temporarily. On Disney’s website, the first date of the refurbishment is set for January 26th and we noticed that it will remain closed through February 8th. Muppet Vision 3D Schedule © Disney While we don’t know what this refurbishment entails, that does mean that Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang should be back when Muppet Vision reopens on February 9th, 2020 (so not a very long refurbishment). That is the date we saw a regular schedule re-appear on Disney’s website: Muppet Vision 3D Schedule © Disney But, if you’re a Muppets fan, we know this closure could be a huge disappointment if you’re traveling to Disney World soon! Muppet Vision 3D – Outside the theater This adds Muppet*Vision 3D to the ever-growing list of attractions that are experiencing brief (as well as extended) refurbishments in 2020. This may all be in preparation for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, which is set to kick off celebrations in October of 2021. If the opening or closing refurbishment date for this attraction shifts, we will be sure to let you know. See what else is closing soon at Disney World here!
