We’re in EPCOT today admiring Spaceship Earth! Spaceship Earth Well, we’re looking at other parts of the park too! We’re always on the lookout for updates in the Disney World parks and today we’re doing a lap around Future World and the World Showcase. So, without further ado, here’s EVERYTHING new in food, construction, and merchandise in EPCOT! EPCOT Food Updates Tangierine Cafe Let’s start by talking food! Unfortunately, we have some sad news as we noticed that Tangierine Cafe had reclosed over in Morocco. Tangierine Cafe Closed Read more on the closure of Tangierine Cafe here. Joffrey’s Speaking of closed locations, the Joffrey’s near the EPCOT entrance is still closed with signs posted to direct guests to the Joffrey’s near Test Track. Closed Joffrey’s We are NOT complaining about having to walk over there, because his Joffrey’s has Cronuts! This isn’t new, but it is a great option if you’re missing chowing down on a Cronut in EPCOT. Joffrey’s Cronut That’s all for food! On to construction! EPCOT Construction Updates World Showcase Lagoon The only construction updates we saw were actually ON the water! There was a Crew Boat cruising across World Showcase Lagoon. Crew in World Showcase Lagoon We’re not sure what they’re up to, but it’s nice to see work being done in a reopened Disney World. EPCOT Merchandise Updates Souvenirs de France Finally, let’s talk merch where there were the MOST updates today! Wonderful World of Memories Our first stop today was the Wonderful World of Memories store on the Marketplace side of Disney Springs, and you won’t believe what we just found! The tie-dyed Flower and Garden Minnie spirit jersey along with other Flower and Garden merch are available Disney Springs! We previously saw this gorgeous item come out last spring along with the rest of EPCOT’s 2020 Flower and Garden Festival merchandise, but because the festival was cut short by the closures, a bunch of Flower and Garden merch is still hanging around! Flower and Garden Spirit Jersey While the Flower and Garden spirit jersey (along with a bunch of other Flower and Garden merch) have been for sale at EPCOT ever since Taste of EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival began, it looks like the merch has started to trickle outside of EPCOT! Over the past couple of years, Disney has been known to embrace certain color trends. Whether you’re dressed head to toe in all things rose gold or you’re embracing your love for the Purple Wall in Tomorrowland, we’ve slowly but surely covered just about every color in the rainbow! We didn’t realize “Hub Grass Green” was our favorite color until just now! You know about Hub Grass Green, right? Those picturesque lawns of VERY green grass that surround the “hub” in Magic Kingdom by Cinderella Castle are a great spot to catch some fireworks, or to simply lounge on while enjoying some ice cream from Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. Ever since we found out where the new Gideon’s Bakehouse would be going in at Disney Springs, we’ve been circling the location like a pack of hungry sharks! Gideon’s Bakehouse We still have to pinch ourselves every now and then to believe we won’t just be getting our favorite Gideon’s chocolate chip cookies straight from the source when the new bakery opens, but we’ll also be getting massive cake slices and a signature line of coffee blends. We recently took a trip to Gideon’s current location in Orlando at the East End Market to catch a glimpse of what Disney Springs’ new cookie heaven could look like! We love the “collected” look of Gideon’s Bakehouse’s vintage books and whimsical objets d’art (otherwise known as knick-knacks!) for guests to browse while waiting for a sugary fix! We might be a little bit behind on the Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction series, but we can still take a peek at what’s to come! Dumbo Minnie Mouse the Main Attraction ©Disney A few weeks ago, we FINALLY got a chance to purchase the June Peter Pan’s flight collection through the shopDisney Merchpass, but we’re still waiting on July’s King Arthur Carrousel line AND August’s Dumbo the Flying Elephant line. While we’re waiting for a chance to buy these collections, we’re getting excited for ANOTHER attraction inspired collection; get ready for the WILDEST ride in the WILDERNESS! That’s right! The next installment in the series is all about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and features new Minnie Ears, a Minnie Mouse Plush, a Mug, a Loungefly Backpack, and a set of Collectible Pins! May we just say, we are LIVING for the denim vibes in this line. Haunted Mansion fans may have 999 pieces of new Haunted Mansion merchandise…but we hear there’s room for 1000! Stretching Room Well, we’ve just spotted a new gorgeous dress that filled us with ghoulish delight and you’ve GOT to check it out! In Disney Springs you will find the Marketplace Co-Op, which features a collection of small shops all under one roof. One of those shops is The Dress Shop on Cherry Tree Lane. That is where we found this drop-dead gorgeous Haunted Mansion dress! Haunted Mansion Dress The dress has a beautiful vintage look to it and we are in LOVE! We’re definitely just going to wear this dress ’till death do us part. Haunted Mansion Dress The top part of the dress is blue with a black collar and button detail on the neckline. The style and details on the neckline really emphasize that vintage look. Haunted Mansion Dress There is a black bow in the front to match the neckline as well. Haunted Mansion Dress There is also some fantastic embroidery on the back collar of the dress. That’s where you’ll find four Singing Busts as well as music notes beautifully embroidered with an incredible level of detail. We can practically hear them singing that famous Haunted Mansion tune. The dress has so many nods to the attraction, including images of Madame Leota, the Hatbox Ghost, the Singing Busts, and even the Constance Hatchaway! We like this one by Outdoor Tech. You can pick up this charger on Amazon for $43.76 and it will last all day. It’s even waterproof for the rainiest of Florida days (or the wettest of water rides)! Stay Cool & Protected from the Heat and Sun Cooling Towels For starters, we don’t know where we would be without cooling towels. Mineral Powder Sunscreen Hopefully we ALL know the importance of wearing sunscreen everywhere you go, no matter the time of year. This is ESPECIALLY important in Disney World, where the Florida sun can be super intense year-round! For kiddos and even some adults, the greasy feeling of sunscreen isn’t ideal, but fortunately there are sunscreen powders you can use! © Amazon We found this one on Amazon that is water-resistant for 80 minutes and is SPF 30. Throw it in your park bag and reapply throughout the day! You can pick one of these up for $25.00. Stock up on mineral powder sunscreen here! A Collapsible Water Bottle What’s the number one summer rule? STAY HYDRATED! Drinking ample amounts of water is key to not only surviving but thriving in Disney World. We recommend you bring your own reusable water bottle to save money on bottled water in the parks. © Amazon A collapsable water bottle takes your level of organization one step further! Shop for these reusable food storage bags here! Beauty and Cosmetic Must-Haves When you look good at Disney World, you feel great! And with the high likelihood of your family’s holiday card photo coming from your Disney World vacation, the pressure is high to look and feel your absolute best! So stock up on some cosmetics must-haves! Chapstick (with SPF!) For starters, you gotta keep your lips moisturized! With the presence of face masks becoming a regular part of our day-to-day lives, you gotta take every opportunity possible to re-apply some chapstick! With the increased frequency of hand sanitizing, our hands are drying out fast. Keep a small bottle of hand cream nearby and reapply throughout the day! © Amazon We’ve really liked using Eucerin. You can pick up a lotion that’s under 3 oz on Amazon for $4.49. Grab some Eucerin hand cream here! If the Shoe Fits… Whether you prefer a closed-toe shoe or flip flops, we have some top recommendations to keep your feet comfy! Picking the right shoe is ESSENTIAL. It’s also super important to break the shoes in before your trip, so if you want new shoes, be sure to buy them well in advance so your feet can get used to them. Sneakers Let’s start off with a stylish pair of shoes that we LOVE wearing to the parks. You can’t go wrong with Adidas Originals Superstars. © Zappos You can pick up a pair on Zappos for $79.95. Sandals If you don’t like the feeling of wearing sneakers in the extreme Florida heat, we have a couple of open-toe options for you to consider! The first are Birkenstocks. These babies are BACK in style and your kids won’t know HOW you got so trendy. © Nordstrom Amazon has tons of varieties that you can grab for $44.95 (for waterproof ones) and up! Be super stylish AND comfortable at the parks with a pair of Birkenstocks! Flip Flops and Quick-Dry Sandals We’ve been singing the praises of Tevas for years. They’re among the comfiest flip flops and the most useful sandals we’ve worn, and a pair always seems to find their way into our suitcases! Although flip flops aren’t the best shoes to wear in a rainstorm, they’re great for walking around the resort pool or on your day off from the parks! And if you DO catch yourself in a rainstorm, grab those quick-dry teva sandals with a backstrap to get you through! © Amazon You can shop for their iconic Mush flip flops on Amazon! Blister Prevention and Care If you do happen to get blisters while at Disney World, you’ll need some gear to make your feet as comfy as possible so it doesn’t put a damper on your trip. In a pinch you can go to First Aid and they’ll give you a band aid! To prevent blisters from occurring in the first place, we’ve found that the Body Glide anti-blister balm works WONDERS. © Amazon You can grab some of this balm on Amazon for $8.00. Apply before you put on your shoes and you should notice a difference! Pick up some anti-blister balm here! Once a blister appears, it’s important to keep it protected and padded. Dr. Scholl’s has a great Moleskin padding roll that you can cut into various sizes depending on the size of the blister. © Amazon We found it on Amazon for $6.50. If you’ve never been to Disney World before, you may be surprised at just how much PLANNING goes into a vacation at the Most Magical Place on Earth! Magic Kingdom Entrance While some visitors like to plan more than others, there are a few key pieces of information you should be aware of ahead of time. They can make all the difference when you book your first Disney World vacation! Here are SIX things that most first-timers get WRONG when they go to Disney World. Making the Wrong Advance Dining Reservations While some restaurants in Disney World accept walk-ups, it’s always a good idea to make Advance Dining Reservations, or ADRs, ahead of your visit to guarantee a place restaurant where you want to dine! Braised Beef Short Ribs Wontons at California Grill Disney typically accepts ADRs 180 in advance, but due to the limited capacity and new safety measures in place, Disney has recently shortened that window to just 60 days in advance. Once it comes time to make those reservations, there are a LOT of reasons why you want to make sure you are making the absolute best ADRs for your party. Read more about the changes coming to Disney World dining here! For starters, it can be tempting to check out all of Disney World’s best restaurants. As a result, lots of folks will make multiple reservations for the same day! Not only does making too many Advance Dining Reservations in one day take valuable time away from the theme parks, it can also be WAY too much food for you to eat (and thus a waste of money if you can’t eat it all!). Be Our Guest Restaurant Ballroom It’s also important to do your research and really understand the pros and cons of the restaurants you’re considering. Read the menu and make sure it accommodates those in your party with any dietary restrictions or allergies (it’s important to note here that Disney does an excellent job catering to those with food allergies). Allergy-Friendly Menu Understanding the vibe of a certain restaurant can be the difference between a stellar dining experience and something you may come to regret! Booking an ADR for Chef Mickey’s, for example, might seem like an obvious choice because so many people seem to talk about it. A LOT. (Note that, at this time, Chef Mickey’s is not hosting characters and is also being served as an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast only!) But if you’re looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, you’re better off taking the elevator up to California Grill instead! Goofy at Chef Mickey’s The time of day that you book your dining reservation is also important. Breakfast is usually the least expensive meal, so if the restaurant itself is more important than the menu, go for breakfast to save some cash! And remember that restaurants get most booked up during stereotypical meal times — 7-9AM for breakfast, 12-2PM for lunch, and 6-8PM for dinner. Choosing to dine outside of those timeframes will yield you more availability and a less crowded atmosphere at the restaurants. Check out our ULTIMATE Disney World Restaurants Guide here! Underestimating How Much You’ll Walk Each of the four parks is huge in their own right! Without even trying, you will easily clock MILES of steps per day. Added up over a week, that can do a serious number on your feet. Walking in World Showcase Lots of first-timers underestimate how much walking is involved. Make sure you pack comfortable, broken-in shoes (we recommend packing a couple of options in case one gets drenched in the rain or you learn midway through your trip that your favorite kicks aren’t as comfy as you first thought!). Minnie’s practical hiking boots You’ll also want to be prepared in case the worst should happen and you wind up with blisters, so be sure to have band-aids in your bag. If you forget, just stop by any First Aid location (there’s one in each theme park!) and ask for bandaids (they’ll be happy to get you what you need!). Packing knee braces might be a good idea, too, if your knees are prone to injury or soreness. First Aid at Magic Kingdom Taking breaks in the middle of the day is a great idea, too! Actually leaving the park and heading back to your hotel room for a couple of hours can be the perfect way to recharge before tackling the parks again at night. Taking an entire day off from the theme parks is a great tip, too! Check out these great non-park day ideas here! Booking the WRONG FastPasses FastPass+ is a complimentary service that any guest can utilize while visiting Disney World. It’s a great way to “skip the line” and enjoy the parks even more! But not all FastPasses are created equal. (Note: FastPass has been suspended currently, but is expected to return to the parks in the future.) Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Queue There are many rides at Disney offering FastPass+ that frankly don’t need to. You can usually catch a short standby wait time for these rides early in the morning or later at night (or even throughout the day if you aren’t there during peak season like summertime or right around the holidays). Living with the Land If you don’t know the layout of the park, you could also end up doing a lot of unnecessary zig-zagging to make it to all of your FastPass reservations. Booking FastPass windows close to each other works great for rides like Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (they’re neighbors, making it EASY to hit both!), but could be a disaster for Space Mountain and Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom where these rides are on opposite ends of the park! Keep in mind that FastPass+ has been temporarily suspended. Learn more here! Underestimating How Much Time You’ll Spend Traveling Disney World is HUGE. It’s the size of TWO Manhattan islands. You simply NEED to budget additional time in for traveling from place to place. This includes walking around the parks themselves (as we mentioned earlier with FastPass selections), but also getting from your hotel to the parks, getting from the parking lots to the parks, getting from one resort to another, etc. Disney Skyliner If you’re staying at a larger resort like Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa or Disney’s Old Key West Resort, those internal bus loops (meaning alllll the stops around the resort before you head off to your destination) can add even MORE time to your travels. Walt Disney World Bus Transportation Don’t wait until the last minute to get somewhere. Instead, you should OVERESTIMATE how much time you’ll need to get where you want to go! It’s way better to plan ahead and possibly be a bit early than show up late and potentially miss your reservation. See what Disney World transportation may look like in the immediate future here! Trying to Do EVERYTHING It is IMPOSSIBLE to do it all in one trip. It can take you YEARS and several trips to Disney World before you ride every ride, meet every character, and see every show. Plus they keep adding MORE! So, why would you even attempt to do it all in one trip? Trying to over-plan and cram everything into one week is only going to result in frustration, heartbreak, and straight-up exhaustion. And THAT’S not a fun vacation. EPCOT While there are plenty of things you can plan ahead for, there are some things you simply cannot control, like the weather! It will most likely rain at some point during your trip to Central Florida. Also, expect to experience a ride being temporarily unavailable. Rainy Day It’s OKAY! Our best tip to avoid total catastrophe is to pick your top five or so rides, characters, shows, and food items that you want to experience each day and prioritize them! Everything else you do can be gravy. Read our tips on how to handle Disney World’s busiest days here! Not Using Mobile Order This tip is for both first-timers and lots of seasoned veterans too. We don’t understand why so many people are STILL not using Mobile Order! Mobile Order Sign This is a big TIME-saving strategy, and in Disney World, your time is valuable! Remember, you’re spending LOTS of money to be in Disney World so don’t waste that precious time! Mobile Order is available at no additional cost to you, the guest, and allows you to order your food at a large number of fast-food locations around Disney World, pay for your order, then skip the line and grab your food when you arrive! Doing your research ahead of time and picking your top priorities for your family means you will be miles ahead of those who don’t prepare!
