We’ve paid several visits to the BoardWalk Bakery on Disney World’s BoardWalk since it reopened. Mickey Waffle Sundae at the BoardWalk Bakery We were just there, in fact, scoping out the situation with the Mickey Ears Waffle Sundae, which is now featuring a little somethin’ called “Snack Time” ice cream. And today brings even more news about the Bakery, as we’ve got some menu changes to share with you. The BoardWalk Bakery serves guests for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And the menu changes kick off, of course, with the Most Important Meal of the Day: Breakfast! We were surprised to notice that the morning menu has removed the Hot Selections of the Everything Everything Sandwich and the Butter Butter Sandwich. Butter Butter Sandwich As for baked goods, individual Blueberry Muffins and Chocolate Chip Muffins are now simply listed as a “Muffin Assortment,” so it seems your choices may vary. Conversely, what was previously listed as a Specialty Cupcake has now been officially noted as the Cookies ‘n Cream Cupcake. But remember… cupcakes here change fairly often (we LOVED the 4th of July Cupcake here this year!), so it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled for anything and everything when it comes to BoardWalk Bakery cupcakes! See why we love BoardWalk Bakery Cupcakes here! Mickey Mouse Celebration Cakes (HOORAY!) are officially listed once more! White Chocolate Celebration Cake One cake feeds 4 to 6 guests, and you can order a Chocolate Cake with chocolate ganache and chocolate mousse or a White Chocolate Cake featuring vanilla cake with white chocolate ganache and white chocolate mousse. (Either selection is $35.00). Mickey Celebration Cake on Display Smaller changes for lunch and dinner include that the Ham and Swiss Sandwich with Chips is still available, but no longer listed as being served on Marble Rye. Grilled Cheese served with Tomato Soup, The Big and Beefy Roast Beef Sandwich, and “The Veggie” Sandwich are all still up for grabs! Boardwalk Bakery Grilled Cheese Yeah, you’re gonna wanna take a closer look at this… See the Grilled Cheese at BoardWalk Bakery here! And the kiddos now get their choice of Sides and a beverage with their Turkey Sandwich or Kids’ Ham and Cheese (as opposed to the default carrot sticks and GoGo squeeZ Applesauce). Though it’s been available at several Resorts around Walt Disney World for some time now, the Star Wars version of the Refillable Resort Mug gets a nod with an official listing on the menu at the BoardWalk Bakery. Star Wars Refillable Mug This is an upgrade from the regular Refillable Resort Mug, which is also still an option. Throughout the day, guests may also opt for large versions of specialty coffee drinks such as Caffe’ Lattes and Cappuccinos (while regular sizes are still available, too). We aren’t currently seeing flavored Cold Brews listed, but we still think it’s worth checking, since beverage options can change so frequently… and since the Cold Brew craving comes on strong in the current summer temps! Ok, so technically speaking, Disneyland Park’s 65th anniversary happened last month (July 17th, in case you’re wondering). But that doesn’t mean we’re done celebrating! ©Disney This anniversary is a milestone for Cast Members and Disney fans around the world! We recently told you about a special D23 standalone issue commemorating the event. Disneyland has also come out with a wide range of celebratory merchandise. But there’s more in store for D23 Gold Members! Disney Imagineers Celebrate 65 Years of Disneyland Park is a virtual event that will be available for D23 Gold and Gold Family Members. According to the D23 website, “…dedicated Imagineers will share personal stories and fun memories about their experiences working on Disneyland projects through the decades.” And guess what!! Time is running out and many Disney World Annual Passholders are asking themselves a tough question before tomorrow’s deadline. Train Station Should they or shouldn’t they cancel their annual passes to Disney World? The final day to opt into cancellation of the pass is TOMORROW, August 11th, and passes will no longer be valid for entry beginning August 12th! If you’re still going back and forth with this tough decision, here’s some additional information that could help you make up your mind. Disney has updated its Annual Passholder policies with the following information regarding how partial refunds, if eligible, will be calculated. © Disney According to Disney’s website, the refund amount, if applicable, will be uniquely based on the passholder’s circumstances. Partial Refund Eligibility/Calculation “The refund amount, if any, for each pass circumstance is unique and based on factors such as: new or renewal, down payment amount, refunds to date, activation date, etc. If the total amount that you paid for your pass(es) (minus any refunds already given and any payments waived, returned or not collected) exceeds the “usable value” (see below) of your pass(es), that excess will be refunded to you. The usable value of your pass(es) equals the total sale price of your pass(es) multiplied by the number of days that you could have visited any park prior to March 16 and divided by the total number of access days to any park permitted under the pass(es) at pass activation. If you made a payment between July 11, 2020 and August 11, 2020 or a payment between March 14, 2020 and April 4, 2020 that was not already refunded, your refund will be at least the amount of any such payment(s).” Cinderella Castle If you wish to cancel your annual passes, here’s how to take action: “If you have already elected to cancel your pass(es), this will be automatically processed for your pass(es). You do not need to take any additional action. Disney’s movie and television projects have experienced numerous delays due to the current health situation making it difficult for production to carry on. ©Disney Although season two of Disney+’s The Mandalorian will be released on time, other Star Wars series aren’t so lucky. Actor Diego Luna was set to reprise his role as rebel spy Cassian Andor in a prequel series based on 2016’s Star Wars film, Rogue One. Recently Luna shared with ComicBook.com the project has not been able to move forward. It appears filming might resume soon, although he doesn’t want the cast and crew to rush into anything. ©Disney “Shooting is starting around the world, so slowly, we’re going back, but there’s no rush,” Luna stated. “To me, what this pandemic brought to my attention is that there [are] priorities. We have to be cautious, and we have to be wise on when and how to go back. And the how is the most important, because if we go back to be who we were, we’ve wasted our opportunity, we wasted a major opportunity of rethinking and reinventing much of the stuff we believed was crucial and essential that clearly is not.” The Rogue One prequel series will be coming to Disney+ and will feature the same writer as the original film, Tony Gilroy. Alan Tudyk will also be returning as the voice of droid K-2SO, along with Genevieve O’Reilly. This is (almost) Halloween! We spotted some spooooky merchandise at Walt Disney World today. ©Disney Disney hit us with a ton of new Halloween merch on shopDisney today. We’ve been dusting off our identity disks lately and eagerly watching the construction progress on the TRON Lightcycle Run attraction coming to Walt Disney World! TRON: Lightcycle Power Run Now, we have new exciting Tron news from the movie world, where a new Tron film is in the works! Greetings, programs! We have new Tron movie news! According to Deadline, it appears Garth Davis will be directing the next film in the Tron franchise. Movie buffs will recognize Davis as the director of the 2016 film Lion. Lion went on to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and also received five other Oscar nominations. ©Deadline Although Davis appears to be known for his work on projects with smaller budgets, he reportedly “aggressively pursued the job” and ultimately won over the executives. A draft of the script for this new installment in the Tron franchise has already been written by Jesse Wigutow, and the movie is set to be produced by Jared Leto, Justin Springer, and Emma Ludbrook. Tron Lightcycle ©Disney Jared Leto is also set to star in the film. While a new Tron movie has been in the works for a while, it appears that the naming of Davis as the director is (hopefully) a step toward more firm development of this new film. Some warn, however, that a full greenlight has not been given on this project yet. We’re definitely ready to get back on the grid so we hope this movie keeps moving forward. We’ve become happily accustomed to seeing Pocahontas a bit more recently, as she is one of the characters you may currently spot by way of a Character Cavalcade flotilla at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Pocahontas in Animal Kingdom And sometimes she’s even joined by her pet raccoon, Meeko… and that’s exactly who gets the spotlight on a new MagicBand we spotted today in Magic Kingdom! The bright blue MagicBand features three characters altogether from Pocahontas, with Percy the pug joining Meeko on one side of the band. Flit We spotted this new MagicBand at the Magic Kingdom Emporium today for $24.99, joining the new Mickey Rainbow Castle MagicBand on the MagicBand displays. Mickey is a pretty busy mouse! Mickey and Friends After all, he’s got lots to do! Mickey’s days are busy with cavalcades, motorcades, and of course hanging with Minnie and his friends. Today though, it looks like the Mouse had a little something extra on his schedule. We saw Mickey walking around a CLOSED Magic Kingdom restaurant with a filming crew! We were taking a spin around Magic Kingdom when some movement over at the still-closed Crystal Palace caught our eye. When we looked closer, we saw that Mickey appears to be working on his latest Disney Parks shoot! Mickey at The Crystal Palace The Mouse was accompanied by lights, cameras, and a crew as he stood in the doorway of Crystal Palace. In just one year since the release of Disney’s “The Lion King” in 2019, fans like you have helped the Disney Conservation Fund, and collaborators around the world, to make huge strides in protecting lions and their habitats across Africa. As we celebrate World Lion Day today, we’re excited to share some of the progress we have made together toward “protecting the pride,” and healthy landscapes for African wildlife and communities! As you might recall, in honor of the release of Disney’s “The Lion King” last year, we launched the “Protect the Pride” global conservation campaign, focused on protecting and revitalizing the lion population across Africa by raising awareness and contributing to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund (LRF). The LRF has directed this support to partner organizations working across Africa with a three-pronged approach to lion recovery: investing in conservation projects on the ground, developing campaigns that support the protection and revitalization of Africa’s lion population, and expanding collaborations among organizations. Credit: Jeremy Goss, Big Life FoundationTo date, Disney’s support has helped the LRF fund 44 lion conservation organizations with 107 projects, spanning 21 African countries. These grants have been disbursed across wildlands containing more than 50 percent of the African lion population, benefitting lions, their habitats and their prey as well as countless human communities involved in the protection of this iconic species! Here are just a few examples of the projects that we’ve helped the LRF fund: Discovering New Prides – In Tanzania, the Ruaha Carnivore Project and the Frankfurt Zoological Society are working with Tanzanian authorities and other partners in the vast Selous/Nyerere ecosystem to examine lion population dynamics in this large wilderness and discover threats to the cats in this key landscape to determine how to best protect the prides there. Mistakes can occur even at the most Magical Place on Earth! Magic Kingdom A little while ago, we spotted a Disneyland shirt had somehow arrived at Disney World, and now we just spotted another merchandise mix-up! We were exploring Magic Kingdom today when we stumbled upon a group of desk plaques at the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A.! We originally saw these cute decor pieces appear in Disney World last year featuring Carousel of Progress and Haunted Mansion-themed designs! Desk Plaques Two of the desk plaques caught our attention today for a different reason though! This new Tower of Terror desk plaque for $12.99 was certainly a long way from home! Usually, it’s not super weird for park-specific merch to show up at other parks once it has debuted, but we haven’t even seen this desk plaque arrive at Tower of Terror’s gift shop yet! Tower of Terror Desk Plaque But it wasn’t alone! We also spotted this Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith desk plaque for $12.99 at Magic Kingdom today which we’d never before! Weren’t these meant to for Disney’s Hollywood Studios since that’s where you’ll find both of these thrill rides?! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Desk Plaque It’s entirely possible these Hollywood Studios’ attraction-themed desk plaques have debuted at multiple locations around Disney World and Magic Kingdom just happens to be one of them. It’s been months since we last saw Disney fireworks, and we really do miss them. Happily Ever After Disney has been open for about a month now, and we’re still getting used to all of the biggest changes. One change that came about with the reopening was the cancellation of all nighttime spectaculars — including Happily Ever After. Now, it seems like Disney is doing some work on the Magic Kingdom fireworks. We were perusing the latest building permits that Disney has filed when we spotted one for “MK Project Nugget F-B Electrical” for the Fireworks Bunker (where the fireworks are shot off) in Magic Kingdom. This definitely caught our attention considering fireworks are currently MIA in Disney World. Disney Permit We’re also wondering about the term “Project Nugget.” Typically Disney gives codenames to big projects. We’re not sure if “Project Nugget” is one of those names but it is the same format. Regardless, we’re happy that the fireworks are getting a little TLC! Fireworks!!! Whether work is being done to maintain electrical systems, bring the fireworks back, or for something else entirely; we’re excited that Disney is putting in some work on the fireworks in Magic Kingdom. We’ll be keeping a close eye out for more permits related to this work so stay tuned for all the latest Disney fireworks updates! As Walt Disney World Resort continues its phased reopening, we’ve got some reopening news to report for the Disney Springs dining scene. The Edison Complex in Disney Springs Three Disney Springs restaurants that make up The Edison Complex in The Landing of Disney Springs will welcome guests once again starting Thursday, August 13th: The Edison, Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante, and Enzo’s Hideaway! On the Walt Disney World website, all three restaurants are listing hours for dinner service from 5PM – 10PM starting Thursday. Inside The Edison Lunch and late night hours are not currently listed for any of the three locations, but we’ll keep you posted on any changes. August 13th is quickly approaching, so you’ll want to check the Walt Disney World website and OpenTable to make your reservations! Enzo’s Hideaway and Tunnel Bar That said, if you just can’t wait until Thursday, don’t forget that Pizza Ponte — which joins Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante and Enzo’s Hideaway as the counter service component for the trio of Italian eateries — is already open and serving guests right now. If there’s 0ne bit of important advice we can pass on to you it’s that hydration is KEY when you’re visiting Disney World. Getting your daily dose of H2O is important no matter where you are, but when you are getting tens of thousands of steps in each day, often in sweltering heat, drinking enough water is crucial. Cups of Water Ready to Take There are multiple ways to acquire water in the Disney theme parks, and the water bottle refill stations are an eco-friendly and less expensive way of doing so. But with the current sanitation practices, many guests are wondering if they’re still available and operational. And the answer is…sometimes. What’s the history of the refill stations in Disney World? Disney has added several water bottle refill stations over the past few years at both the parks and resorts. In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you can find one in the queue area for both Flight of Passage and Navi River Journey, both in the newer Pandora section of the park. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can find one in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge by the restrooms. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Water Bottle Refill Station It seems that as Disney builds new lands and expands their theme parks, the water refill stations are built into the infrastructure of those areas. But some of the pre-existing areas are starting to get these stations, too. We’ve spotted new stations installed recently at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom, as well as the new restrooms near Traveler’s Cafe (AKA Starbucks) in EPCOT. Refillable Water Bottle Station The theme parks aren’t the only areas that have these refill stations. We’ve seen stations located at the Hollywood Studios Skyliner station as well as the park’s new bus station. The bus stop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village also has one of these stations. Disney has yet to provide a map of all the station locations, so it’s almost like a scavenger hunt to find them all! Read more about all the ways you can find water in Disney World! What’s the value in using these refill stations? These refill stations have been widely accepted as a GOOD change since they have arrived to Disney World, and we totally understand why! The benefit of using these refill stations is two-fold: you’re being nicer to the planet, and you’re saving money along the way! Refillable Water Bottle Station One of the reasons more and more companies are adopting these refillable water bottle stations is that it offers a more ‘green’ way of drinking water. If you pack a refillable water bottle in your park bag, you don’t have to keep finding disposable water bottles and cups throughout the day. And it’s MUCH easier to fill your bottle at these stations than at a probably-not-as-hygienic water fountain. Free Cups of Water This way, you are also saving money. Purchasing bottled water in a Disney park or resort is one of the easiest ways to throw away your hard-earned cash! You can make your snack and souvenir dollars stretch much further if you pack a refillable bottle with you, as opposed to purchasing multiple bottles throughout the day. In the past, we have also experienced the temperature of our bottle station water to vary between cool and warm. This isn’t ideal if you’re trying to get ice cold water on a blistering hot Florida day, but if you are simply looking for hydration, the temperature of the water should be comfortable enough. If you’re on the fence, you can always ask a Cast Member at a local quick service location for a free small cup of ice water to add to your bottle. Take a look at some other recent changes that Guests have LOVED here! A cause for concern in a reopened Disney World But as convenient as these stations are, do we have reason to be concerned with the cleanliness of them? We saw them working when we visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios on its opening day, along with the water fountains located right next to them. Depending on how often Cast Members come by and sanitize the stations, these may not be AS clean as you may think. Water Bottle Refill Station While these are contactless, and objectively SHOULD be the safer way of getting water (especially compared to water fountains!), we have always wondered how frequently folks touch the opening of their water bottle (where their mouth has been) with where the water comes out of the refill station. Bottled Water There is no need to physically touch your bottle to the station, as the sensors in the station will detect when a water bottle is underneath the fountain and will turn on automatically. Think of it like an automatic sink in a restroom. All you need to do is hover your hands underneath the sink, and water will appear! Water Bottle Station and Water Fountain These refill stations have not all been operating since the parks have reopened. While the ones in Pandora and Galaxy’s Edge were fully functional, the location at Cosmic Ray’s was not. Water Fountain at Cosmic Rays So, it seems like Disney is trying to figure out what the best practice is with these contactless refill stations. While they certainly SEEM more sanitary than a traditional water fountain, Disney may be figuring out an even better solution. Only time will tell if the rest of these refill stations open back up! Is Disney World safe right now? Read our thoughts here! So, what is the future of these refill stations? The contactless water bottle refill stations are a great way to reduce waste and save money on bottled water, but Disney needs to make sure these are as clean and safe as they are convenient and complimentary. Water Bottle Refill In a world where we are trying to reduce contact with others as much as possible, these are a GREAT option…as long as they remain clean and safe for guests to use.
