Universal Orlando had a MASSIVE 2025 thanks to the opening of Epic Universe and its three corresponding hotels. Universal Orlando However, we’re not sure if there’s enough to carry the resort’s momentum through 2026. The New “Shine” is Wearing Off During 2025, Epic Universe and the resort expansion that came along with it were a “shiny new toy” in the Central Florida theme park landscape. There was heavy promotion, national commercials, a touring exhibition, and television specials. This year, that promotion has been dialed back considerably post-opening year. Speaking of which… Epic Universe Spacing Out Visits Many of the guests who did visit Universal Orlando for the first time — or the first time in a while — in 2025, thanks to Epic Universe’s opening, will likely space out their trips, not visiting again until there’s something “new” to see. That brings us to… Celestial Park Waiting for Hollywood Drift Universal is currently constructing a Fast & The Furious Hollywood Drift at the front of Universal Studios Hollywood, where Rip, Ride, Rockit formerly was. The coaster, which is a clone of the Universal Hollywood version that’s opening in the summer of 2026, will be a game-changer for the Florida coaster landscape when it opens next year, and many thrill-seeking guests are likely waiting for the new ride to debut. @bioreconstruct via X Travel Costs are Skyrocketing Of course, there are also factors outside of the Universal bubble that may cut down on 2026 visitors. Due to international diplomatic and economic factors, travel costs — airfare, hotels, gasoline — are increasing exponentially. At the same time, inflation is bringing up the cost of everyday goods, eating into the budgets of many families and even solo travelers. All of which together means that many simply aren’t able to travel as much in 2026. And those that do may look for a better “value”, which brings us to… ©JetBlue Disney’s Discounts Disney is offering up a slew of discounts on 2026 trips, including discounts on tickets, “free” nights with certain packages, included Disney Dining Plans, and a litany of perks for various types of guests, including Disney Visa Cardholders, Disney+ Subscribers, DVC Members, as well as members of the armed forces, and residents of states including Florida and Georgia. Cinderella Castle Universal had a huge 2025. Is that momentum carrying through 2026, or is the resort going to feel a lull before their new major addition opens in 2027? We’re eager to see. If you’ve ever wondered where to get a good burger in Universal Orlando, you’re not alone! We love heading to CityWalk’s Burger King Whopper Bar for our custom, one-of-a-kind burger at an affordable price. ©Five Guys Sometimes, we just want the juicy, greasy burger of our dreams, no park ticket required! So we were thrilled to find out that Universal Orlando will get a new Five Guys location – but it comes at a cost: Burger King Whopper Bar will be closing soon! Five Guys will take over the existing Burger King Whopper Bar location at CityWalk, which will close on April 21st, 2026. At the Whopper Bar, you can choose from over 20 toppings as your sandwich is assembled before your eyes, with unique options including add-on extras like guacamole and crispy onions. Get your personal Whopper fix before it’s gone! ©Universal The popular fast casual burger chain Five Guys will bring fresh, made-to-order burgers and fries to Universal CityWalk later this summer. We love Five Guys for their juicy burgers, crispy fries, and sweet milkshakes. You can’t go wrong with their classic cheeseburger! ©Five Guys Since the Burger King Whopper Bar is a similar concept to Five Guys, the restaurant itself will likely receive a quick facelift as the only major change. If you want to grab some fast food during the closure, CityWalk’s neighboring Panda Express and Moe’s Southwest Grill will remain open. ©Five Guys We’re so excited we can finally get Five Guys during our Universal days, but we’re sad to see Burger King go! Can you hear us hooting and hollaring? Because we are shouting from the rooftops about the fact that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is finally reopening! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad After over a YEAR of waiting, the popular coaster is finally reopening in Magic Kingdom! Big openings like this one bring about excitement, crowds, and (without a doubt) changes. We’re breaking down some of the new rules and procedures we might see once the ride finally reopens. In case you missed it, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is finally reopening on May 3rd, 2026. The ride has been closed for a major refurbishment since January 6th, 2025, so this has been a long time coming! Ahead of the attraction’s big reopening, we have been thinking about what new rules and procedures might be in place starting on May 3rd. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The first rule we know that will be in place is that there is a new height requirement! Previously, you had to be 40” tall to check out the wildest ride in the world. Starting on May 3rd, the height requirement has been lowered to 38” tall. Disney confirmed that the changes to the ride allowed them to lower the height requirement, which we think is awesome. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The second procedure that we think will change is how strict they are with Lightning Lanes. Disney’s skip-the-line service, called Lightning Lane Multi Pass, is a paid service that allows you to save time by avoiding long lines. You can select your ride time, and then you have a 1-hour window to skip the line. Crowds at the Lightning Lane for Big Thunder Mountain before it closed Typically, if you’re running a little late, the Cast Members will do their best to get you in the line anyway. Now this isn’t a guarantee, but they will always do what they can. When new, popular rides open, though, the crowds swarm, and it makes it harder for Cast Members to get people through the line after their Lightning Lane time formally ends. While we won’t know for sure how strict they’re going to be, we would bet that it will be tight for a little while. Be sure to go during your Lightning Lane window and don’t risk missing it! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Lightning Lane Another change is one that will be in your planning procedures! When it opens back up, Big Thunder Mountain will be a Tier 1 selection on the Lightning Lane list. That isn’t a change; it was Tier 1 before it closed in 2025. While it’s always been popular, Big Thunder Mountain wasn’t always our number one choice when selecting our first tier in Magic Kingdom, but that will change. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad If you really want to skip the inevitably long lines that will be at Big Thunder Mountain with a Lightning Lane, we would definitely recommend selecting this attraction first. This might be a change to how you select Lightning Lanes, but we feel pretty confident that Big Thunder Mountain’s Lightning Lane times will fill up pretty quickly. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad construction Speaking of skipping lines, rope drop procedures might change on May 3rd! Any time a ride or new attraction opens, guests love to experience it as soon as possible. We see some seriously long lines during these times, and if you want to avoid them but not pay for Lightning Lanes, you’ll need to change how you rope drop. Construction from April 2026 Instead of heading for Tron or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train on May 3rd, you might want to head straight to Big Thunder Mountain. We’re sure the crowds will go with you, but this is one of the best ways to avoid long lines, especially during the middle of the day when it’s the hottest. Rope Drop crowds at Magic Kingdom Finally, another new procedure is that there might be a soft opening for the attraction! Heavy on the word might. Recently, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin also reopened in Magic Kingdom, and it’s given us some hints as to what we might expect for Big Thunder Mountain’s reopening. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Ahead of its official reopening on April 8th, Buzz Lightyear actually soft-opened for several days leading up to the 8th. Does this mean that Big Thunder Mountain could also open a little early? Well, we aren’t 100% sure. If a ride is ready to test with guests, Disney will open it ahead of time. Sometimes that’s just for Cast Member and Annual Passholder previews, and sometimes that’s for general guests in the park. Line for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin soft opening We can’t say for certain if Big Thunder will have a soft opening, but we can hope! We are making sure to keep our eyes peeled ahead of the opening, just in case Disney surprises us. We are seriously excited about these new updates. The big reopening is less than a month away, so hold on tight! We’re almost there! As always, be sure to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for more Disney news, updates, and more. Hurricane season in Disney World can often cause more harm than good, especially considering storms can shut down outdoor Disney World rides, and hurricanes and tropical storms as a whole can shut down the parks if the threat is great enough (it’s rare, but it’s happened!). Storm season! It’s also important to remember that there’s hurricane season, AND a rainy season, and while they’re not the same thing, they often coincide with each other. Hurricane season officially runs from June 1st through November 30th, while the rainy season happens to be most of the summer. If you’re traveling to Disney World during this time, we 100% recommend bringing a poncho or umbrella with you to use every day, even if there isn’t rain in the forecast, because it can change on a dime! It looks like we’ve got some potentially good news, though, from Colorado State University’s Seasonal Hurricane Forecasting — it’s possible this season could be LESS activity than normal. The CSU Hurricane Forecast for 2026 shows not only the predictions for this year, but also the average from 1991 to 2020. CSU’s original forecast for this upcoming season was released on April 9th, 2026, and from the numbers, we can see that the expectations for all categories, including Named Storms, Hurricanes, Major Hurricanes, and Accumulated Cyclone Energy, among others, are all lower than the average. ©CSU So, what does all this mean for your Disney World trip? Well, for one, it means that there’s less of a chance that your days in the parks will be severely disrupted by a major storm. For those who are local to Orlando, it also means that you may not have to worry as much this year about intense storms affecting your everyday life. That doesn’t mean they won’t still happen, so you’ll want to keep a close eye out for advice and warnings about big storms on the way. Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton If you do find yourself in Disney World during a tropical storm or hurricane, the good news is that you’re in one of the safest places possible! Disney has been known to rebook guests into different hotels if the one they’re staying in isn’t as safe (such as camping or staying in the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort), and they often bring characters to the hotels to entertain guests and keep everyone calm as the storm rages outside. While Disney doesn’t like to close their parks, it will do so if it is unsafe for guests and the Cast Members. Yes, it may not be the vacation you were anticipating, but if it happens, you’ll get an experience not everyone gets to say they’ve had! Overcast skies after Hurricane Milton We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest hurricane and tropical storm news this year to help you prepare for your upcoming trips, so stay tuned to DFB! Progress is continuing with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster has a new look! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed earlier this year, on March 2nd, to make way for a new version of the ride featuring The Muppets. Immediately after the ride’s closure, Disney wasted no time making changes to the exterior, and that work has been progressing quickly! If you’re wondering when to plan your next Disney World trip, we’ve got you covered with a full calendar breakdown to help you figure it out! Check out our “A Year in Disney World: 12-Month Calendar” to check when the best times to visit Disney World are. We can’t lie, we keep making our way to Hollywood Studios to check in on what’s been happening with the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster building. If you haven’t been to the park recently or haven’t been checking our updates, Disney started painting the iconic upside-down car at the entrance as soon as the ride closed. One month later, and look at it now! Check out the car! The car is so vibrant and animated. We’re loving the change, despite how iconic the old car used to look. It looks like the car is pretty much complete! That’s not the only exterior work that’s been going on, because we also noticed that painting has started on the giant red guitar. Painting on the red guitar! We can’t get as good a look at this work because it’s covered, but we can get a peek to see that they started. When looking at the concept art for the ride, the guitar is really going to pop when all is said and done. We’re super excited to see what it will look like in person. ©Disney We’re super stoked for the new version of the attraction to open. It will feature animatronics of Scooter and the penguin audio engineers, who will be working hard to get Electric Mayhem to make it on time to their concert. ©Disney The concept is similar to the original ride, only Muppets style! We’ll be getting a VIP tour of G-Force Records, but under new management by The Muppets! We’ve also been told that G-Force Records has a new, unique look, as Scooter’s uncle, real estate tycoon and owner of the Muppet Theatre, J.P. Grosse, has taken over. We’re patiently waiting! We’re going to miss the OG, but we’d be lying if we didn’t say all this talk on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets is getting us beyond excited! SHOP HERE Reusable Utensils — 30% OFF Reusable Travel Utensils Set You can pair your straws with these corresponding reusable utensils. We are always testing products! Each set includes 4 sets of cutlery made of a wheat straw material, each cast in a different color. SHOP HERE INIU Portable Charger — 17% OFF INIU Portable Charger This is one of our favorite chargers on the market from a financial value standpoint. This wired charger is packed with power but thin enough to fit in a pocket, wallet, or fanny pack, which makes carrying it around the park much easier than some other bulky charger alternatives. SHOP HERE Frogg Togg Poncho — 33% OFF Frogg Toggs Poncho We have tried A LOT of ponchos at Walt Disney World over the years, and this is BY FAR our favorite, especially for the kind of rainy weather you may find in Central Florida. This poncho — available on Amazon in multiple colors, including this striking hot pink — had several features that we simply adored. The material allowed the rain to slip right off, and between that and the lack of sleeves, we didn’t feel steamed or hot underneath. Frogg Toggs Poncho On top of that, the poncho was large enough that our backpack was able to fit underneath it comfortably, while still keeping the bag and our backs completely covered from the rain. If all that wasn’t enough, the poncho even comes with a waterproof storage bag, meaning we were able to quickly pack it up and throw it in our backpack as soon as the storm ended without worrying about anything in there getting wet. These days, when people think about visiting Universal Orlando, their first thought is pretty much all about Epic Universe, which makes sense because it’s still a relatively new theme park. Universal CityWalk However, if you’re making a trip to Universal and skipping out on CityWalk, you might be doing yourself a disservice. CityWalk is Universal’s shopping and dining district, and the best part about it is that you don’t need a ticket to visit. Epic Universe Preview Center Five Guys, which is a super popular burger restaurant, will be making its way to Universal CityWalk later this summer. It will be taking over the Burger King Whopper Bar, which will close on April 21st. Pro tip: order the Cajun fries and ask for the secret menu item, the Patty Melt. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No! It’s two classic Disney characters! ©Disney If you’ve ever wanted to see Peter Pan and Wendy fly off to Neverland, it’s time you head over to the Magic Kingdom! Disney recently announced that Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, the park’s nighttime parade, has undergone a massive change. Luckily for us, this change is a pretty exciting one! When Disney first released concept art, it did look like Peter and Wendy might take flight, but we all know that concept art isn’t concrete, especially when it comes to new Disney projects. It’s so cool to see how this has come to life! The float looks just like the art now. ©Disney The nighttime parade is one that we absolutely adore in the park! If you want to see the characters take flight, you can catch the parade twice at night at 8:15PM and 10:30PM most nights. Starting April 13th, the parade will move to one show time at 8:30PM Monday through Thursday, and twice per night at 8:30 and 10:30PM on Friday and Saturday. Disney Starlight — Peter Pan Float The parade starts off on Main Street, U.S.A., before making its way to Frontierland, so it’s the reverse of Disney’s other parade, Festival of Fantasy. This parade features appearances from the Blue Fairy, Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto, Moana, and more! Disney Starlight This parade is full of classic and new Disney characters, and it really does light up the night sky. We thought we couldn’t love it any more than we already do, but then Peter Pan and Wendy took flight. Call us happy parade people! This National Siblings Day, the story of three cast member sisters, is a reminder that Disney magic has a special way of bringing families together across generations. For sisters Kate, Brittany, and Rachel Hackett, what began as childhood visits to Walt Disney World has grown into a shared calling, rooted in family, tradition and a love for creating meaningful and magical moments for others. These days, each sister works in a different corner of Walt Disney World, but their paths all trace back to the same beginning. Their grandmother spent 27 years as a seasonal merchandise cast member and her love for Disney left a heartfelt and lasting impact. Through her stories and dedication, she helped define the sisters’ earliest Disney memories and sparked a connection that would eventually become a true family legacy. “We were very fortunate to spend so much time at Disney World as children,” Kate said. “Our grandmother really shaped those memories for us.” Those early visits planted a seed, and none of them could have predicted where it would lead. Their Disney story stretches back decades from childhood Christmas trips, to surprising each other during family vacations and traditions built on a little extra holiday magic at the Candlelight Processional. They’ve even carried on the legacy by performing in the Candlelight Processional Cast Choir together, a role their grandmother once held. Brittany was the first to take the leap, moving to Florida from New Jersy for school and picking up a part-time role at Walt Disney World. It didn’t take long for that decision to set something bigger in motion. One by one, her sisters followed, and eventually much of their immediate family found themselves a little closer to the magic that had always felt like home. Their jobs look different, but the pride they share as cast members is the same. Kate works in Food and Beverage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and recently completed culinary school with an interest sparked by her time in the kitchen. Brittany supports Entertainment as a scheduling specialist, helping coordinate smooth experiences for performers, attendants, technicians, costuming cast and more. Rachel works with the Disney Character Events team, bringing beloved characters to events across property and beyond. Now that they’ve forged unique career journeys, the sisters say working at Disney has brought them even closer. When their work paths cross, it’s extra special. Recently, all three worked at the same event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It marked the first time in more than six years with the company that they’d been part of the same project. “That was the first time we’d ever been able to run into each other altogether,” Rachel said. “It was such a fun experience to share all that we do with one another.” Each sister has found her own sense of purpose in her role. For Kate, it was Food and Beverage that opened the door to culinary arts. “I’ve discovered my love for this area, and it’s helped me move into the next steps of my career,” she said. Brittany found her place behind the scenes, supporting fellow cast members. “The cast are my guests,” she explained. “I love supporting them in all the magic they create.” For Rachel, the ever-changing world of character events is a constant source of inspiration. “Every day is a little bit different,” she said. “You get to see new things that fill your cup.” And the family’s Disney roots keep growing. Two uncles and an aunt also work at Walt Disney World, adding to a legacy built on creativity, connection, and care. So what would they tell other siblings or families considering a Disney career? Don’t hesitate. “Do it,” they said. “We have the sisterly bond, but we also have the cast member bond.” Working at Disney, the sisters say, has strengthened their relationships, opened new doors and given them a shared sense of purpose. “It just feels so normal that we’re all part of the magic,” Brittany said. “We have pixie dust in our veins!” National Siblings Day is about celebrating the people who know us best. Kate, Brittany and Rachel are shining examples of how shared dreams can turn into shared careers, and their story is just one of many across Walt Disney World Resort. “We are grateful to be a place where careers often begin with family and grow into long-term journeys rooted in opportunity and purpose,” said Michelle Stewart, manager of cast activities engagement and strategy. With more than 80,000 cast members at Walt Disney World Resort, an average tenure of 12 years and the lowest attrition rate in two decades, cast members like Kate, Brittany and Rachel reflect the meaningful, long-term careers Disney makes possible. The Disney Celebrates America Military Salute Ticket sounds a little like a military annual pass, but that is not what Disney is actually selling. Getting ready for your visit to EPCOT might involve some serious prep! EPCOT Just like any other Disney World park, you’ll need to make a packing list before your visit so you’ve got all the essentials. You’ve got to be prepared for a wide variety of circumstances! Over decades of visits, we’ve honed our list of EPCOT must-haves, and now we’re sharing some of our faves with you. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Get the reusable straws, trust us. Silicone straw set First of all, if you’re going to EPCOT, there’s probably a festival happening (they’re scheduled for like 10 months of the year at this point!), and if not, you might be drinking around the world anyway. With all those beverages plus your morning coffee, you’re going to get a LOT of use out of these Sunseeke Reusable Silicone Straws. Disney World mostly just offers paper straws these days, so having something sturdier on your person is nice when you’re drinking a lot. view ON AMAZON This utensil set is SO helpful. Reusable Travel Utensils Set Another frequently-used item of ours at the festivals is this Reusable Travel Utensils Set with Case. It comes with four sets of utensils in different colors and individual containers, each with a spoon, fork, and knife. When you’re snacking around all the festival booths, this saves you from wasting plastic utensils all day. They’re easy to clean and simple to store in your bag! view ON AMAZON We love the Owala water bottle! Owala Rapunzel Water Bottle Of course, our most important piece of advice when visiting EPCOT is to STAY HYDRATED, especially if you’re drinking alcohol. The easiest way to do that is with a refillable water bottle, and our favorite one is the Owala FreeSip. They have a super cute Disney Princess line, and we tested out the Rapunzel bottle ourselves in the parks. The spout stays covered, it has an easy-carry loop on top, and it keeps your beverage nice and cold. view ON AMAZON Gotta keep your health in mind! Touchland and Disney Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case When visiting the theme parks, you’re probably touching a lot of things that thousands of other folks are touching — it’s so easy to get sick! That’s why we like to carry hand sanitizer in our bags (in addition to washing hands frequently!), and this Touchland & Disney Special Edition Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case is the cutest themed one for an EPCOT visit. view ON AMAZON Don’t forget the park bag! ODODOS Daily Sling Bag Need a park bag to carry all this stuff in? We’ve been taking the ODODOS Sling Bag to the parks for a while now, and we love it. It’s bigger than a fanny pack with more storage capacity, but not as heavy as a traditional backpack. It’s the perfect mix of the two styles! It fits all the basics we need for our park days. view ON AMAZON And finally, you NEED sunscreen. ©Amazon Of course, we’ve got to remind you to wear sunscreen when you visit EPCOT, because the sun is intense in this park! One of our favorites is this Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick. It’s designed to go on your face, and it can be worn either under or over your makeup. It’s a great lightweight formula that won’t leave you feeling weighed down. view ON AMAZON We’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest Disney souvenirs and essentials, so don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more! We all know how expensive Disney World can be…but if you’re like me, you just HAVE to go as much as you can, right? But if you’re also like me and have a strict budget for your trip, you also need to know how to afford that trip to Disney World, am I right? ©Disney Well, there are actually a LOT of ways to save money in Disney World, and we’re not just talking about taking advantage of free water at counter service restaurants and bringing your own water bottle. There is one BIG hack that could save you hundreds of dollars PER DAY…and I’m going to tell you about that, along with some of my other favorite ways to save money on a trip. Let’s talk about some of the easiest ways you can save a lot of money in Disney World. Know where to shop for souvenirs Souvenirs in Disney World are going to be kinda’ pricey, but there’s a better way to buy the souvenirs you want. You can always visit the Disney Character Warehouse to stock up on some of the most popular souvenirs for far less than what you would pay in the theme parks. You’ll find two stores in the Orlando area. This is especially easy if you have your own transportation while visiting the parks. The Disney Character Warehouse is a great spot to shop for souvenirs However, you might also want to check out The Disney Store before you buy an item in the park. There’s often a chance the item is cheaper if you buy it directly from The Disney Store online. You might catch a sale that will get you the same souvenir you’d find in the parks for a much lower cost. Get Minnie Ears From Amazon Don’t spend $30 or more for a pair of Minnie Ears in the parks! You can get ears for half that (or less) by shopping on Amazon. Sometimes, you’ll even find great deals on Loungefly ears that would cost way more in the theme parks. Again, this is about shopping smart, even if it means buying some things before your trip. ODOCARE Minnie Ears from Amazon This is also true of many Loungefly bags. Shopping online might get you a better price than if you buy it in a store in the park (believe me, I’ve checked prices on some bags and I was shocked at how much cheaper they can be when you catch them on sale online). shop for Loungeflys ON AMAZON Buy bubble wands and bubble mix before trip I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen kids’ eyes light up when they see their first bubble wand in Disney World. They will want it, and they might bug you the ENTIRE trip to get it. Now, those wands are PRICEY in the parks. But you can get a Disney bubble wand pretty much anywhere, including Walmart and Amazon. ©Amazon Also, be sure to stock up on bubble mix, too, because that can be a bit pricey if you run out and have to buy it in the parks. shop for Bubble wands on amazon Order grocery delivery to your hotel I almost always get bottled water and snacks delivered to my Disney World hotel room to save money on those things. Water, in particular, is SO expensive in the parks that every time I even think to look at a menu in Disney World and see the price for bottled water, I internally cringe. Get snacks and drinks delivered! You have quite a few options for having groceries delivered to your Disney World hotel room, including Garden Grocer, Instacart, Amazon Fresh, Walmart, and more. Note that you will probably have to meet a minimum amount to have groceries delivered, and you may have to pay delivery fees. However, you’ll still likely save money over what those items would have cost in Disney World. Order groceries from Amazon fresh Use a travel agent I didn’t always use a travel agent when I booked my Disney trips, but in 2020, I learned the value of working with a travel agent. I’d planned a trip to Disneyland for April 2020, but then Disneyland closed, and I had it re-booked for November 2020. When we knew Disneyland would remain closed, my travel agent was able to re-book it all as a trip to Disney World. But here’s the best part: when Disney World released a discount, my travel agent automatically applied it to my trip, and I got the money that discount saved me BACK (and it was a considerable amount). Why Use a Disney Travel Agent? Here’s Just a Few Reasons! Now, you can do this yourself, but trust me, it’s a hassle, especially if you want to grab a discount: you have to cancel your trip and then rebook it. A travel agent can do it all for you seamlessly, and can help you with other aspects of your trip, too — and their services are 100% free. We recommend contacting our friends over at Small World Vacations to help you with your next Disney World vacation. They can help you with booking Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line and Universal vacations, too! Buy Kids’ Meals There is NO shame in my game. Many Disney World meals are TOO much food for me (I tend to eat a lot of small meals and then snack throughout the day). Why spend money on a meal you’re not going to eat all of? Instead, order the Kids’ Meal, and save money PLUS prevent food waste. Kid’s Meal from La Cantina de San Angel For example, if I’m visiting Pandora over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I always get the Kids’ meal of the Cheeseburger Pods for about a $5 savings, and it’s enough to fill me up and keep me going until I’m ready to grab a little something sweet at Zuri’s Sweets Shop. Rent DVC Points through a reputable agency I’ll admit that I was a little nervous when I first rented DVC points online, but the agency that I used had come highly recommended — David’s Vacation Club Rentals. But I ended up saving about $200 per night on a room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and by the time I split the room with a friend, I got to stay in a deluxe hotel on a value hotel budget. Room at Animal Kingdom Lodge There are some caveats, of course. First, you’ll need to book those rooms WAY in advance because they go quickly (I booked 11 months before my trip). Also, you’ll have to see if the agency has a refund policy in case you need to cancel the trip. However, if you’re looking to stay somewhere you might not be able to afford to stay at otherwise, this is a great way to do it. Dealing with long lines is just kind of part of the whole Disney World experience, no matter when you’re visiting the parks. This is a looooong line Typically, the longest lines you’ll have to deal with are for the most popular rides — but that’s not always the case. Recently, a viral snack has taken Animal Kingdom by storm, and you won’t believe the lines this thing is drawing in! If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom soon and want to try this new treat, be prepared to wait in a long line! If you haven’t heard of the Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich over at Terra Treats in Animal Kingdom, consider yourself warned! This new snack is going viral — and for good reason. It’s a brownie layered with vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate chips and edible cookie dough for $8.29, and while that might not sound all that interesting, this thing definitely lives up to the hype! Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich So much so, in fact, that it has had consistently long lines pretty much since it debuted in the park. We’re not kidding when we say these things are REALLY tasty! Line for the ice cream sandwich The most prominent layer is that cookie dough on top, which is sugary and soft, with a bit of crunch from the chocolate chips. The cookie dough flavor really comes through and balances nicely with the vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is smooth and creamy and holds up fairly well inside the sandwich. Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich The brownie layer on the bottom is the least prominent, and it doesn’t bring as much fudgy chocolate flavor as we would’ve liked, but it makes a solid base. Ultimately, this is a great sweet treat, and we enjoyed it thoroughly! Because of its soft texture, it’s a little easier to eat than the old cookie sandwiches, in our opinion. Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich Even on a rainy day like yesterday, the Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich still had a pretty long line! Just goes to show how good this thing is — people were even willing to wait in the rain for it! Every once in a while, a Disney snack comes along that’s totally worth the hype, and this one really is. Make sure you check it out on your next trip to Animal Kingdom! Unfortunately, it’s not available via Mobile Order, so you will have to wait in line for it. If you’re an ice cream fan, though, we think it’s worth it. There was even a line in the rain! We’ll be on the lookout for more long Disney World lines you need to know about — especially when it comes to snacks! A new Disney animatronic has taken the world by storm, and even after having the funniest malfunction in Disney animatronic history, Robo-Olaf is still just as amazing as ever. ©Carlye Wisel This happy snowman just made his debut in Disneyland Paris as part of the new World of Frozen in Disney Adventure World, but if you’ve been begging for him to make his way stateside, you might just be in luck! The Olaf animatronic will eventually be coming to Disneyland and Disney World, according to a new report from Fast Company. Walt Disney Imagineering revealed that the Olaf robot will eventually make his way to Disneyland and beyond for photo op appearances, Fast Company has reported. After the popular character recently debuted at World of Frozen at the new Disney Adventure World in Paris, Imagineering has plans to bring Olaf to Disneyland and “other Disney theme parks around the world.” Robot Olaf! via Carlye Wisel Senior Vice President for Research and Development at Walt Disney Imagineering, Kyle Laughlin, said that Olaf robots will eventually appear at Disney parks around the world. Not only that, but Olaf will be found on the high seas on the Disney Cruise Line as well. “He’s one of our most popular characters, so domestically you’ll also see him as well,” Laughlin said. “That’s really kind of the important point: We really are building these now for operations and to ensure that they’re everywhere.” ©Carlye Wisel As of now, Imagineering has not revealed a timeline for the rollout of Olaf robots at Disneyland, Disney World, or elsewhere, but we’re hoping it’s sooner rather than later. Also, is anyone else picturing an army of tiny robot Olafs in their head, or is it just me??? ©Disney These animatronics can walk and talk, and are remotely controlled with pre-recorded lines provided by Olaf’s original voice actor from Frozen, Josh Gad. When we visited Disney Adventure World, we spotted robot Olaf in “A Celebration in Arendelle,” a boat show that’s all about the Frozen franchise. Occasionally, if the robot is not working, he can be found in puppet form as part of the show. A Celebration in Arendelle Imagineering used “reinforcement learning,” an AI-driven tool, to train the Olaf robot how to waddle, turn his head, and make eye contact just like the original animated character. They’re not working on an Olaf robot that can do up-close meet-and-greet photo ops with park visitors. “The North Star goal that we have is to be able to have that huggable moment,” Laughlin said. A Celebration in Arendelle Hong Kong Disneyland is set to soon add an Olaf robot to a boat show in their version of the World of Frozen land. Disney World theme parks aren’t the only parts of the resort where construction is happening. Disney World hotels are also getting refurbishments, with some hotels getting refreshed food courts, lobbies, rooms, and more. Pop Century Resort There are also a lot of general refurbishments happening at Disney World hotels. This includes pool areas, which often go under maintenance before the summer season when there is greater demand for pools. Well, if you plan on visiting Disney’s Pop Century Resort soon, there’s an upcoming pool closure we need to tell you about. The kiddie pool deck at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will be closing on April 13th for routine maintenance. That means that if you want to do some swimming at that hotel, you’ll have to use the Hippy Dippy Pool or one of the other two pools at the resort. This work is expected to last through late April, so it should only affect those staying at Pop Century during that month. During this time, you can expect to see and hear construction noise during daytime hours. Kiddie Pool If you are visiting Disney’s Pop Century, you’ll want to check out the updated Everything POP! shopping and food court area. Disney finished a refurbishment there last year, as well as in the hotel lobby. So if you’ve been to Pop Century before, it might look a little different now. Pop Century Resort lobby We’ll keep an eye out for more closures and construction at Disney World, but in the meantime, you can keep track of all of it here. We’ll also let you know when things change, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 7 Things That’ll Make Your Stay at Disney’s Pop Century Resort 10x Better Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Exploring Animal Care Excellence at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
Day and night, cast members care for the animals who call Walt Disney World home. Their work reflects deep expertise, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to animal wellbeing – and it’s worth celebrating today and every day. Accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) since the park’s opening in 1998, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park stands as a reflection of the passion, teamwork, and high standards our cast members bring to their work. There’s no better way to celebrate Earth Month than with a closer look at the care these teams provide, and a big thank you to the cast members who make it all happen. Animal Care Guests Don’t Always See Some of the most important animal care happens beyond what guests typically notice. Every day, cast members create customized nutrition plans, design enriching experiences, and partner closely with veterinarians to support animals at every stage of life. From carefully prepared meals to enrichment that encourages natural behaviors like exploring and problem‑solving, our hands‑on care is grounded in research, observation, and experience. A key part of this work happens at the Animal Nutrition Center, which prepares and delivers more than 10,000 pounds of food each day to animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT. It’s a behind‑the‑scenes operation that reflects the dedication and attention to detail cast members bring to their work every single day. When giraffe Tucker recently celebrated his first birthday, his keepers partnered with the Animal Nutrition Center to create a giraffe‑friendly birthday feast designed just for him, a small moment that highlights the care that guests only get a glimpse of. Science in Action Behind every animal you see is a team of experts putting science to work around the clock. Animals are monitored overnight, supported through behind‑the‑scenes check‑ins, and cared for using detailed protocols that help ensure their well-being at all times. Animal care professionals, veterinarians, nutritionists, and scientists collaborate daily, whether it’s during a routine exam or planning long‑term care. For animals like okapis – naturally reclusive and rarely visible even in the wild – much of that care happens quietly behind the scenes. Keepers like Mori build trust over time, training okapis to voluntarily participate in their own care, allowing teams to monitor health and conduct exams even when guests may never catch a glimpse. The same relationship‑based approach allows African elephants to position their feet for veterinary radiographs, demonstrating how science‑based care is rooted in communication, trust, and respect. Where Care, Careers, and Conservation Connect Many of our cast will tell you that animal care is more than a job; it’s a calling. Through certifications, mentorship, research, and collaboration with peers across the global zoological community, cast members continuously build expertise that supports animals both in our care and in the wild. This knowledge extends far beyond the park gates. Cast members contribute to field research and conservation partnerships around the world, from the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s Tour de Turtles to work with the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That same commitment also comes back home, shaping how cast members connect guests to conservation every day. Just as importantly, cast members help inspire the next generation of conservationists. Experiences like Wilderness Explorers spark curiosity through discovery, inviting young adventurers to learn about animals, ecosystems, and the importance of protecting the natural world. By turning learning into hands-on exploration, these moments help plant the seeds for future conservation leaders. The Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) helps carry this message forward. Celebrating more than 30 years of impact with $141 million invested to date, DCF supports conservation efforts globally, combining philanthropic grants and Disney expertise to protect wildlife, restore ecosystems, and inspire action for the planet Celebrating the Teams Who Make It Possible Disney’s Animal Kingdom was built on the belief that caring for animals comes with an extraordinary responsibility, and our cast members carry that responsibility with pride.
