These days, when people think about visiting Universal Orlando, their first thought is pretty much all about Epic Universe, which makes sense because it’s still a relatively new theme park. Universal CityWalk However, if you’re making a trip to Universal and skipping out on CityWalk, you might be doing yourself a disservice. CityWalk is Universal’s shopping and dining district, and the best part about it is that you don’t need a ticket to visit. And soon, you’ll have even more reasons to visit CityWalk because a lot of new stuff is coming to the area! So what’s on the way? The Universal Legacy Store will be returning in late April. There, you’ll be able to buy some fun retro merchandise plus get some photo ops inspired by classic Universal Studios Florida attractions and Universal movies like E.T., Jaws, Back to the Future, and Universal Monsters. To make way for the Universal Legacy Store, the Universal Epic Universe Preview Center will be closing on April 13th to make way for the NEW shop. Epic Universe Preview Center Five Guys, which is a super popular burger restaurant, will be making its way to Universal CityWalk later this summer. It will be taking over the Burger King Whopper Bar, which will close on April 21st. Pro tip: order the Cajun fries and ask for the secret menu item, the Patty Melt. TRUST ME. ©Five Guys As we previously announced, country music star Luke Combs is bringing Luke Combs’ Category 10 to CityWalk. This will be a new location for the entertainment venue where you’ll be able to enjoy live music, food, and drinks. However, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for this spot to open its doors: it’s not expected to be ready until 2027. ©Category 10 Nashville So you will soon have even more reasons to visit CityWalk, so keep that in mind if you’re planning a trip to Universal Orlando. And we’ll keep you updated on everything NEW happening at Universal, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 3 Universal Orlando Hotels Fans Aren’t Booking in 2026 Read more: DFB's complete guide to Universal’s Epic Universe >> Do you visit CityWalk when you visit Universal Orlando? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No! It’s two classic Disney characters! ©Disney If you’ve ever wanted to see Peter Pan and Wendy fly off to Neverland, it’s time you head over to the Magic Kingdom! Disney recently announced that Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, the park’s nighttime parade, has undergone a massive change. Luckily for us, this change is a pretty exciting one! When Disney first released concept art, it did look like Peter and Wendy might take flight, but we all know that concept art isn’t concrete, especially when it comes to new Disney projects. It’s so cool to see how this has come to life! The float looks just like the art now. ©Disney The nighttime parade is one that we absolutely adore in the park! If you want to see the characters take flight, you can catch the parade twice at night at 8:15PM and 10:30PM most nights. Starting April 13th, the parade will move to one show time at 8:30PM Monday through Thursday, and twice per night at 8:30 and 10:30PM on Friday and Saturday. Disney Starlight — Peter Pan Float The parade starts off on Main Street, U.S.A., before making its way to Frontierland, so it’s the reverse of Disney’s other parade, Festival of Fantasy. This parade features appearances from the Blue Fairy, Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto, Moana, and more! Disney Starlight This parade is full of classic and new Disney characters, and it really does light up the night sky. We thought we couldn’t love it any more than we already do, but then Peter Pan and Wendy took flight. Call us happy parade people! As always, be sure to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for more Disney news, updates, and more. This National Siblings Day, the story of three cast member sisters, is a reminder that Disney magic has a special way of bringing families together across generations. For sisters Kate, Brittany, and Rachel Hackett, what began as childhood visits to Walt Disney World has grown into a shared calling, rooted in family, tradition and a love for creating meaningful and magical moments for others. These days, each sister works in a different corner of Walt Disney World, but their paths all trace back to the same beginning. Their grandmother spent 27 years as a seasonal merchandise cast member and her love for Disney left a heartfelt and lasting impact. Through her stories and dedication, she helped define the sisters’ earliest Disney memories and sparked a connection that would eventually become a true family legacy. “We were very fortunate to spend so much time at Disney World as children,” Kate said. “Our grandmother really shaped those memories for us.” Those early visits planted a seed, and none of them could have predicted where it would lead. Their Disney story stretches back decades from childhood Christmas trips, to surprising each other during family vacations and traditions built on a little extra holiday magic at the Candlelight Processional. They’ve even carried on the legacy by performing in the Candlelight Processional Cast Choir together, a role their grandmother once held. Brittany was the first to take the leap, moving to Florida from New Jersy for school and picking up a part-time role at Walt Disney World. It didn’t take long for that decision to set something bigger in motion. One by one, her sisters followed, and eventually much of their immediate family found themselves a little closer to the magic that had always felt like home. Their jobs look different, but the pride they share as cast members is the same. Kate works in Food and Beverage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and recently completed culinary school with an interest sparked by her time in the kitchen. Brittany supports Entertainment as a scheduling specialist, helping coordinate smooth experiences for performers, attendants, technicians, costuming cast and more. Rachel works with the Disney Character Events team, bringing beloved characters to events across property and beyond. Now that they’ve forged unique career journeys, the sisters say working at Disney has brought them even closer. When their work paths cross, it’s extra special. Recently, all three worked at the same event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It marked the first time in more than six years with the company that they’d been part of the same project. “That was the first time we’d ever been able to run into each other altogether,” Rachel said. “It was such a fun experience to share all that we do with one another.” Each sister has found her own sense of purpose in her role. For Kate, it was Food and Beverage that opened the door to culinary arts. “I’ve discovered my love for this area, and it’s helped me move into the next steps of my career,” she said. Brittany found her place behind the scenes, supporting fellow cast members. “The cast are my guests,” she explained. “I love supporting them in all the magic they create.” For Rachel, the ever-changing world of character events is a constant source of inspiration. “Every day is a little bit different,” she said. “You get to see new things that fill your cup.” And the family’s Disney roots keep growing. Two uncles and an aunt also work at Walt Disney World, adding to a legacy built on creativity, connection, and care. So what would they tell other siblings or families considering a Disney career? Don’t hesitate. “Do it,” they said. “We have the sisterly bond, but we also have the cast member bond.” Working at Disney, the sisters say, has strengthened their relationships, opened new doors and given them a shared sense of purpose. “It just feels so normal that we’re all part of the magic,” Brittany said. “We have pixie dust in our veins!” National Siblings Day is about celebrating the people who know us best. Kate, Brittany and Rachel are shining examples of how shared dreams can turn into shared careers, and their story is just one of many across Walt Disney World Resort. “We are grateful to be a place where careers often begin with family and grow into long-term journeys rooted in opportunity and purpose,” said Michelle Stewart, manager of cast activities engagement and strategy. With more than 80,000 cast members at Walt Disney World Resort, an average tenure of 12 years and the lowest attrition rate in two decades, cast members like Kate, Brittany and Rachel reflect the meaningful, long-term careers Disney makes possible. The Disney Celebrates America Military Salute Ticket sounds a little like a military annual pass, but that is not what Disney is actually selling. Getting ready for your visit to EPCOT might involve some serious prep! EPCOT Just like any other Disney World park, you’ll need to make a packing list before your visit so you’ve got all the essentials. You’ve got to be prepared for a wide variety of circumstances! Over decades of visits, we’ve honed our list of EPCOT must-haves, and now we’re sharing some of our faves with you. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Get the reusable straws, trust us. Silicone straw set First of all, if you’re going to EPCOT, there’s probably a festival happening (they’re scheduled for like 10 months of the year at this point!), and if not, you might be drinking around the world anyway. With all those beverages plus your morning coffee, you’re going to get a LOT of use out of these Sunseeke Reusable Silicone Straws. Disney World mostly just offers paper straws these days, so having something sturdier on your person is nice when you’re drinking a lot. view ON AMAZON This utensil set is SO helpful. Reusable Travel Utensils Set Another frequently-used item of ours at the festivals is this Reusable Travel Utensils Set with Case. It comes with four sets of utensils in different colors and individual containers, each with a spoon, fork, and knife. When you’re snacking around all the festival booths, this saves you from wasting plastic utensils all day. They’re easy to clean and simple to store in your bag! view ON AMAZON We love the Owala water bottle! Owala Rapunzel Water Bottle Of course, our most important piece of advice when visiting EPCOT is to STAY HYDRATED, especially if you’re drinking alcohol. The easiest way to do that is with a refillable water bottle, and our favorite one is the Owala FreeSip. They have a super cute Disney Princess line, and we tested out the Rapunzel bottle ourselves in the parks. The spout stays covered, it has an easy-carry loop on top, and it keeps your beverage nice and cold. view ON AMAZON Gotta keep your health in mind! Touchland and Disney Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case When visiting the theme parks, you’re probably touching a lot of things that thousands of other folks are touching — it’s so easy to get sick! That’s why we like to carry hand sanitizer in our bags (in addition to washing hands frequently!), and this Touchland & Disney Special Edition Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case is the cutest themed one for an EPCOT visit. view ON AMAZON Don’t forget the park bag! ODODOS Daily Sling Bag Need a park bag to carry all this stuff in? We’ve been taking the ODODOS Sling Bag to the parks for a while now, and we love it. It’s bigger than a fanny pack with more storage capacity, but not as heavy as a traditional backpack. It’s the perfect mix of the two styles! It fits all the basics we need for our park days. view ON AMAZON And finally, you NEED sunscreen. ©Amazon Of course, we’ve got to remind you to wear sunscreen when you visit EPCOT, because the sun is intense in this park! One of our favorites is this Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick. It’s designed to go on your face, and it can be worn either under or over your makeup. It’s a great lightweight formula that won’t leave you feeling weighed down. view ON AMAZON We’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest Disney souvenirs and essentials, so don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more! We all know how expensive Disney World can be…but if you’re like me, you just HAVE to go as much as you can, right? But if you’re also like me and have a strict budget for your trip, you also need to know how to afford that trip to Disney World, am I right? ©Disney Well, there are actually a LOT of ways to save money in Disney World, and we’re not just talking about taking advantage of free water at counter service restaurants and bringing your own water bottle. There is one BIG hack that could save you hundreds of dollars PER DAY…and I’m going to tell you about that, along with some of my other favorite ways to save money on a trip. Let’s talk about some of the easiest ways you can save a lot of money in Disney World. Know where to shop for souvenirs Souvenirs in Disney World are going to be kinda’ pricey, but there’s a better way to buy the souvenirs you want. You can always visit the Disney Character Warehouse to stock up on some of the most popular souvenirs for far less than what you would pay in the theme parks. You’ll find two stores in the Orlando area. This is especially easy if you have your own transportation while visiting the parks. The Disney Character Warehouse is a great spot to shop for souvenirs However, you might also want to check out The Disney Store before you buy an item in the park. There’s often a chance the item is cheaper if you buy it directly from The Disney Store online. You might catch a sale that will get you the same souvenir you’d find in the parks for a much lower cost. Get Minnie Ears From Amazon Don’t spend $30 or more for a pair of Minnie Ears in the parks! You can get ears for half that (or less) by shopping on Amazon. Sometimes, you’ll even find great deals on Loungefly ears that would cost way more in the theme parks. Again, this is about shopping smart, even if it means buying some things before your trip. ODOCARE Minnie Ears from Amazon This is also true of many Loungefly bags. Shopping online might get you a better price than if you buy it in a store in the park (believe me, I’ve checked prices on some bags and I was shocked at how much cheaper they can be when you catch them on sale online). shop for Loungeflys ON AMAZON Buy bubble wands and bubble mix before trip I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen kids’ eyes light up when they see their first bubble wand in Disney World. They will want it, and they might bug you the ENTIRE trip to get it. Now, those wands are PRICEY in the parks. But you can get a Disney bubble wand pretty much anywhere, including Walmart and Amazon. ©Amazon Also, be sure to stock up on bubble mix, too, because that can be a bit pricey if you run out and have to buy it in the parks. shop for Bubble wands on amazon Order grocery delivery to your hotel I almost always get bottled water and snacks delivered to my Disney World hotel room to save money on those things. Water, in particular, is SO expensive in the parks that every time I even think to look at a menu in Disney World and see the price for bottled water, I internally cringe. Get snacks and drinks delivered! You have quite a few options for having groceries delivered to your Disney World hotel room, including Garden Grocer, Instacart, Amazon Fresh, Walmart, and more. Note that you will probably have to meet a minimum amount to have groceries delivered, and you may have to pay delivery fees. However, you’ll still likely save money over what those items would have cost in Disney World. Order groceries from Amazon fresh Use a travel agent I didn’t always use a travel agent when I booked my Disney trips, but in 2020, I learned the value of working with a travel agent. I’d planned a trip to Disneyland for April 2020, but then Disneyland closed, and I had it re-booked for November 2020. When we knew Disneyland would remain closed, my travel agent was able to re-book it all as a trip to Disney World. But here’s the best part: when Disney World released a discount, my travel agent automatically applied it to my trip, and I got the money that discount saved me BACK (and it was a considerable amount). Why Use a Disney Travel Agent? Here’s Just a Few Reasons! Now, you can do this yourself, but trust me, it’s a hassle, especially if you want to grab a discount: you have to cancel your trip and then rebook it. A travel agent can do it all for you seamlessly, and can help you with other aspects of your trip, too — and their services are 100% free. We recommend contacting our friends over at Small World Vacations to help you with your next Disney World vacation. They can help you with booking Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line and Universal vacations, too! Buy Kids’ Meals There is NO shame in my game. Many Disney World meals are TOO much food for me (I tend to eat a lot of small meals and then snack throughout the day). Why spend money on a meal you’re not going to eat all of? Instead, order the Kids’ Meal, and save money PLUS prevent food waste. Kid’s Meal from La Cantina de San Angel For example, if I’m visiting Pandora over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I always get the Kids’ meal of the Cheeseburger Pods for about a $5 savings, and it’s enough to fill me up and keep me going until I’m ready to grab a little something sweet at Zuri’s Sweets Shop. Rent DVC Points through a reputable agency I’ll admit that I was a little nervous when I first rented DVC points online, but the agency that I used had come highly recommended — David’s Vacation Club Rentals. But I ended up saving about $200 per night on a room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and by the time I split the room with a friend, I got to stay in a deluxe hotel on a value hotel budget. Room at Animal Kingdom Lodge There are some caveats, of course. First, you’ll need to book those rooms WAY in advance because they go quickly (I booked 11 months before my trip). Also, you’ll have to see if the agency has a refund policy in case you need to cancel the trip. However, if you’re looking to stay somewhere you might not be able to afford to stay at otherwise, this is a great way to do it. Dealing with long lines is just kind of part of the whole Disney World experience, no matter when you’re visiting the parks. This is a looooong line Typically, the longest lines you’ll have to deal with are for the most popular rides — but that’s not always the case. Recently, a viral snack has taken Animal Kingdom by storm, and you won’t believe the lines this thing is drawing in! If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom soon and want to try this new treat, be prepared to wait in a long line! If you haven’t heard of the Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich over at Terra Treats in Animal Kingdom, consider yourself warned! This new snack is going viral — and for good reason. It’s a brownie layered with vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate chips and edible cookie dough for $8.29, and while that might not sound all that interesting, this thing definitely lives up to the hype! Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich So much so, in fact, that it has had consistently long lines pretty much since it debuted in the park. We’re not kidding when we say these things are REALLY tasty! Line for the ice cream sandwich The most prominent layer is that cookie dough on top, which is sugary and soft, with a bit of crunch from the chocolate chips. The cookie dough flavor really comes through and balances nicely with the vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is smooth and creamy and holds up fairly well inside the sandwich. Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich The brownie layer on the bottom is the least prominent, and it doesn’t bring as much fudgy chocolate flavor as we would’ve liked, but it makes a solid base. Ultimately, this is a great sweet treat, and we enjoyed it thoroughly! Because of its soft texture, it’s a little easier to eat than the old cookie sandwiches, in our opinion. Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich Even on a rainy day like yesterday, the Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich still had a pretty long line! Just goes to show how good this thing is — people were even willing to wait in the rain for it! Every once in a while, a Disney snack comes along that’s totally worth the hype, and this one really is. Make sure you check it out on your next trip to Animal Kingdom! Unfortunately, it’s not available via Mobile Order, so you will have to wait in line for it. If you’re an ice cream fan, though, we think it’s worth it. There was even a line in the rain! We’ll be on the lookout for more long Disney World lines you need to know about — especially when it comes to snacks! A new Disney animatronic has taken the world by storm, and even after having the funniest malfunction in Disney animatronic history, Robo-Olaf is still just as amazing as ever. ©Carlye Wisel This happy snowman just made his debut in Disneyland Paris as part of the new World of Frozen in Disney Adventure World, but if you’ve been begging for him to make his way stateside, you might just be in luck! The Olaf animatronic will eventually be coming to Disneyland and Disney World, according to a new report from Fast Company. Walt Disney Imagineering revealed that the Olaf robot will eventually make his way to Disneyland and beyond for photo op appearances, Fast Company has reported. After the popular character recently debuted at World of Frozen at the new Disney Adventure World in Paris, Imagineering has plans to bring Olaf to Disneyland and “other Disney theme parks around the world.” Robot Olaf! via Carlye Wisel Senior Vice President for Research and Development at Walt Disney Imagineering, Kyle Laughlin, said that Olaf robots will eventually appear at Disney parks around the world. Not only that, but Olaf will be found on the high seas on the Disney Cruise Line as well. “He’s one of our most popular characters, so domestically you’ll also see him as well,” Laughlin said. “That’s really kind of the important point: We really are building these now for operations and to ensure that they’re everywhere.” ©Carlye Wisel As of now, Imagineering has not revealed a timeline for the rollout of Olaf robots at Disneyland, Disney World, or elsewhere, but we’re hoping it’s sooner rather than later. Also, is anyone else picturing an army of tiny robot Olafs in their head, or is it just me??? ©Disney These animatronics can walk and talk, and are remotely controlled with pre-recorded lines provided by Olaf’s original voice actor from Frozen, Josh Gad. When we visited Disney Adventure World, we spotted robot Olaf in “A Celebration in Arendelle,” a boat show that’s all about the Frozen franchise. Occasionally, if the robot is not working, he can be found in puppet form as part of the show. A Celebration in Arendelle Imagineering used “reinforcement learning,” an AI-driven tool, to train the Olaf robot how to waddle, turn his head, and make eye contact just like the original animated character. They’re not working on an Olaf robot that can do up-close meet-and-greet photo ops with park visitors. “The North Star goal that we have is to be able to have that huggable moment,” Laughlin said. A Celebration in Arendelle Hong Kong Disneyland is set to soon add an Olaf robot to a boat show in their version of the World of Frozen land. Imagineering has also teased the possibility of a robotic Sven reindeer and a robotic Simba, Mufasa, or Scar character for the Lion King land coming to Disney Adventure World. Sven If you don’t want to wait to meet a Disney robot, you can head over to Disneyland’s Pixar Place Hotel during April to meet WALL-E and Eve robotic characters. We recently got the chance to meet these two, and they are SO dang cute. They are so cute together! We’ll be on the lookout for even more updates about when robot Olaf might end up at Disneyland or Disney World! Disney World theme parks aren’t the only parts of the resort where construction is happening. Disney World hotels are also getting refurbishments, with some hotels getting refreshed food courts, lobbies, rooms, and more. Pop Century Resort There are also a lot of general refurbishments happening at Disney World hotels. This includes pool areas, which often go under maintenance before the summer season when there is greater demand for pools. Well, if you plan on visiting Disney’s Pop Century Resort soon, there’s an upcoming pool closure we need to tell you about. The kiddie pool deck at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will be closing on April 13th for routine maintenance. That means that if you want to do some swimming at that hotel, you’ll have to use the Hippy Dippy Pool or one of the other two pools at the resort. This work is expected to last through late April, so it should only affect those staying at Pop Century during that month. During this time, you can expect to see and hear construction noise during daytime hours. Kiddie Pool If you are visiting Disney’s Pop Century, you’ll want to check out the updated Everything POP! shopping and food court area. Disney finished a refurbishment there last year, as well as in the hotel lobby. So if you’ve been to Pop Century before, it might look a little different now. Pop Century Resort lobby We’ll keep an eye out for more closures and construction at Disney World, but in the meantime, you can keep track of all of it here. We’ll also let you know when things change, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 7 Things That’ll Make Your Stay at Disney’s Pop Century Resort 10x Better Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Exploring Animal Care Excellence at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
Day and night, cast members care for the animals who call Walt Disney World home. Their work reflects deep expertise, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to animal wellbeing – and it’s worth celebrating today and every day. Accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) since the park’s opening in 1998, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park stands as a reflection of the passion, teamwork, and high standards our cast members bring to their work. There’s no better way to celebrate Earth Month than with a closer look at the care these teams provide, and a big thank you to the cast members who make it all happen. Animal Care Guests Don’t Always See Some of the most important animal care happens beyond what guests typically notice. Every day, cast members create customized nutrition plans, design enriching experiences, and partner closely with veterinarians to support animals at every stage of life. From carefully prepared meals to enrichment that encourages natural behaviors like exploring and problem‑solving, our hands‑on care is grounded in research, observation, and experience. A key part of this work happens at the Animal Nutrition Center, which prepares and delivers more than 10,000 pounds of food each day to animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT. It’s a behind‑the‑scenes operation that reflects the dedication and attention to detail cast members bring to their work every single day. When giraffe Tucker recently celebrated his first birthday, his keepers partnered with the Animal Nutrition Center to create a giraffe‑friendly birthday feast designed just for him, a small moment that highlights the care that guests only get a glimpse of. Science in Action Behind every animal you see is a team of experts putting science to work around the clock. Animals are monitored overnight, supported through behind‑the‑scenes check‑ins, and cared for using detailed protocols that help ensure their well-being at all times. Animal care professionals, veterinarians, nutritionists, and scientists collaborate daily, whether it’s during a routine exam or planning long‑term care. For animals like okapis – naturally reclusive and rarely visible even in the wild – much of that care happens quietly behind the scenes. Keepers like Mori build trust over time, training okapis to voluntarily participate in their own care, allowing teams to monitor health and conduct exams even when guests may never catch a glimpse. The same relationship‑based approach allows African elephants to position their feet for veterinary radiographs, demonstrating how science‑based care is rooted in communication, trust, and respect. Where Care, Careers, and Conservation Connect Many of our cast will tell you that animal care is more than a job; it’s a calling. Through certifications, mentorship, research, and collaboration with peers across the global zoological community, cast members continuously build expertise that supports animals both in our care and in the wild. This knowledge extends far beyond the park gates. Cast members contribute to field research and conservation partnerships around the world, from the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s Tour de Turtles to work with the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That same commitment also comes back home, shaping how cast members connect guests to conservation every day. Just as importantly, cast members help inspire the next generation of conservationists. Experiences like Wilderness Explorers spark curiosity through discovery, inviting young adventurers to learn about animals, ecosystems, and the importance of protecting the natural world. By turning learning into hands-on exploration, these moments help plant the seeds for future conservation leaders. The Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) helps carry this message forward. Celebrating more than 30 years of impact with $141 million invested to date, DCF supports conservation efforts globally, combining philanthropic grants and Disney expertise to protect wildlife, restore ecosystems, and inspire action for the planet Celebrating the Teams Who Make It Possible Disney’s Animal Kingdom was built on the belief that caring for animals comes with an extraordinary responsibility, and our cast members carry that responsibility with pride. It’s official! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom is reopening on May 3rd! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Ahead of that reopening, Disney has shared a lot of updates and details about what will be changing on the ride, including a new track, a new scene, a new exterior, and more. Well, now, Disney is sharing a new behind-the-scenes video featuring some of the Imagineers who helped make all these new updates to the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness. In the new video, Disney features some of the Imagineers who worked on the ride’s update. This also includes a first up-close look at some of the changes, including the brand new track on the ride. Now, we thought the rickety track from before was all part of the Big Thunder Mountain Experience, but it seems like the ride might not be at least a little bit smoother (which is all good with our aging bodies). ©Disney Disney also confirmed that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has brand new ride vehicles, which will probably also help improve the ride experience. Of course, it’s still going to be wild because that’s the way this ride rolls! The ride control system has also been upgraded. ©Disney We also recently learned that because of these new improvements, the ride’s height requirement has been changed from 40″ to 38″, so some little ones will get to experience the ride for the very first time. However, don’t worry too much about the changes. It’s still the same Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, aka the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness, but it’s been made to be more enjoyable for more people. ©Disney Imagineers say that the ride is more comfortable than it was in the past, and a lot of the ride’s fans will probably be VERY happy to hear that. ©Disney Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also getting a new scene, Rainbow Caverns, which will be “shimmering and illuminating iridescent” to help bring the ride to life in a new way. The exterior is also getting an update so that it will better fit in with the Piston Peak expansion when it opens in Frontierland. ©Disney Disney also promised other “magic,” so we probably won’t even know what that is until the ride officially reopens next month. In the meantime, we’ll keep an eye out for early preview announcements, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Why Is It Taking Disney World Over a Year to Refurbish Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? If you plan on visiting Universal Epic Universe this month, you’re going to want to be aware of this ride closure! Super Nintendo World Epic Universe The park has seen closures throughout its first year of being open, and it’s a tough reality that even the most popular rides have to go down from time to time. Well, there’s going to be a closure to a popular ride coming this month, and it’s located in Super Nintendo World. Yoshi’s Adventure is going to be closing at Epic Universe! We heard a little while back that this ride was going to be closing in April, and now that the time has come, we wanted to make sure to remind you. Yoshi’s Adventure will officially be closed for temporary refurbishment on April 21st. Super Nintendo World Don’t panic, this will be a VERY short closure, as the ride is set to open again on April 23rd. The closure is most likely for routine maintenance. So, consider these dates when planning a visit to Epic Universe this month. The closure window is short enough that you might be able to juggle some dates around to make sure you ride this attraction (if that’s a priority). It’s considered one of the most kid-friendly rides in the park! Yoshi’s Adventure Super Mario fans might want to avoid going to Epic Universe from April 21st to April 23rd, but if that isn’t an option, there are still lots of things to enjoy at Super Nintendo World. Two of some of the park’s most popular rides are Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and Mine Cart Madness. Plus, there’s fun Mario-themed dining and merchandise in the immersive land. Mario Kart Bowser’s Challenge Universal as a whole has been hit with ride closures. Islands of Adventure has had Jurassic Park River Adventure closed since January 5th, and it will remain closed until November 19th. Pteranodon Flyers closed on February 27th, and that won’t reopen until May 14th. Just some more things to keep in mind for those coming to Universal Florida. Come with us to Europe for our latest hotel tour! Efteling Wonder Hotel We recently found ourselves in Europe, hitting up some popular theme parks, and we made a stop at Efteling Park in the Netherlands! During our visit, we stayed at the Efteling Wonder Hotel, which opened in the summer of 2025. Check it out! The Efteling Wonder Hotel (formerly the Efteling Hotel) offers fairytale-themed and family-focused rooms just outside the park — about a 5-minute walk. Offering a “castle in the sky”/steampunk theme, this hotel is ideal for families looking for a little extra magic in their stay. Efteling Wonder Hotel We stayed in the standard room… and WOW! This room is incredibly themed! Our room! Our room size was fairly standard with a white and blue theme (along with white and dark blue curtains with a galactic sparkle), but it’s the finer details that really stood out. Seating area There is a small seating area with a bench and some pillows, but the theming really gets going with a crown-inspired stool that doubles as a game! Cute! There are a ton of fun quirks like this in the room, like the trash cans shaped like golden boots! That’s a first! Lighting is where hotels can get really creative, and this one features light stands shaped like regal cats! I need this for my own home There are even fun Easter eggs, like a mouse hole (with a mouse) that’s often featured in fairytales! This is an incredible addition! You’ll even notice that the room’s mirror gets in on the fun with a winged design. Mirror Let’s talk beds. This specific room includes 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed, and 1 single pull-out bed. Bunk bed The beds are accompanied by small side tables. Side table You’ll also find outlets scattered around the room (keep in mind that adapters will be required if you’re traveling from the U.S.). Outlet and light switches The bathroom is pretty standard, but themed, nevertheless. From writing on the wall to a neat, stylized compass on the floor, the bathroom doesn’t break the immersion. Bathroom The bathroom includes a small toilet, a walk-in shower, and a small sink. It’s tiny, but it gets the job done. You’ll also find standard amenities like towels, hand soap, shampoo, and body wash. Included in your stay Back in the bedroom area, there are also some standard offerings, like a closet and safe. Safe There’s even a little hanger to hang your belongings and “Do Not Disturb” sign. “Do Not Disturb” sign And, of course, the room comes with a TV! Ultimately, you get a lot of expected amenities here — just with a fantastical flair! A stay also includes unlimited entry to the Efteling, half-hour early entry to the park, access to an extensive breakfast buffet, access to the swimming pool (Het Badhuys in Efteling Bosrijk), and free parking at the nearby car park. It’s certainly no secret that travel is expensive these days, and it’s only getting pricier as the days go by. Baggage claim at MCO! No matter where you’re heading on your next trip, if you’re flying, chances are your flights will be even more expensive than you originally anticipated — and it’s all because baggage fees are increasing. Five major U.S. airlines have recently announced price hikes on baggage fees, and we’re sharing everything you need to know. Delta Air Lines is charging most passengers even more to check their bags as of April 7th, with the first checked bag starting at $45, and the second costing $55. These changes apply only to tickets purchased on or after April 8th on domestic and select short-haul international routes. Checked bag prices on long-haul international routes will not change. ©Getty Images “These updates are part of Delta’s ongoing review of pricing across its business and reflect the impact of evolving global conditions and industry dynamics,” a Delta spokesperson told USA TODAY in a statement. ©Getty Images After only recently starting to charge for the first checked bag, Southwest Airlines also announced it will increase checked bag fees. The changes apply to reservations made or changed voluntarily after April 9th. The carrier will now charge $45 instead of $35 for the first checked bag, with the second checked bag costing $55. Southwest Airlines “As part of an ongoing analysis of the business and against the evolving global backdrop, Southwest Airlines is increasing its fees on first and second checked bags by $10,” a Southwest Airlines statement said. Southwest Airlines at John Wayne International Airport United Airlines will now charge $50 for the first checked bag, or $45 for passengers who prepay. JetBlue is charging $39 for the first checked bag during off-peak travel times, or $49 during peak times like the summer and major holidays. As of April 9th, American Airlines has also increased its checked bag fees by $10. Prepaid checked bags will be $45 for the first and $55 for the second. A third checked bag will cost $200, which is a $50 increase over the normal price. ©United Airlines Jet fuel costs have more than doubled in the almost seven weeks since the U.S. and Israel started a war with Iran. Fuel is the second biggest expense for airlines after labor, typically, which is why these baggage increases have been implemented across many airlines. The price hikes started with JetBlue, with United announcing its increases later that week. American, Delta, and Southwest followed suit. American Airlines If you’ve got an upcoming flight on these — or any other — airlines, make sure you double-check the price of checking your bags to see if the costs have increased. Many of these price hikes do not apply to those in select loyalty groups for these airlines, so it’s possible that even if you do have a flight on one, your costs will not increase. ©JetBlue We’ll be on the lookout for additional travel updates that could impact your upcoming trips. Although many Disney World visitors come to the resort to enjoy the theme parks, the resort is also one of the top golf destinations in the country. Lake Buena Vista Golf Course Disney World is home to four world-class golf courses that have hosted major golf tournaments, including those on the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, as well as USGA events. Disney just recently completed some massive updates to its Magnolia Golf Course, and now there are plans in place to update its Lake Buena Vista Golf Course, too! Disney recently announced that it has plans to upgrade its Lake Buena Vista Golf Course “to enhance and improve course playability and conditioning for your future enjoyment.” The upgrades are expected to start in late spring and run through early fall. Lake Buena Vista Golf Course The current upgrade plans include: renovating the greens with new contouring and elevations, making updates to green-side bunkers and chipping areas, upgrading irrigation systems, adding new drainage systems for bunkers, and making enhancements to several of the course’s teeing grounds. Disney hopes these updates will make the golf course even more playable for golfers who visit it. ©Disney Visitors might expect to see signs of work at this classic country-club style golf course, so if you’re planning on playing golf during your next Disney World trip, you might need to be aware of construction. We checked bookings for May and noticed that you cannot book anything at this golf course after May 3rd. However, Disney World’s other three golf courses will also be available during this time. If you are interested in playing during your next trip, you can book tee times online on the Disney World Golf website. If you’re heading to EPCOT in 2026, make sure to familiarize yourself with the latest policy changes at Disney’s second park, as things have changed even in the last year. Spaceship Earth Whether it’s how to approach some of EPCOT’s most popular attractions that have been refurbished, some of the park’s most popular restaurants, or even its newest lounge. Many Riders are Heading to Frozen Ever After for the First Time in Forever… After a month-long closure early in 2026, EPCOT’s Frozen Ever After reopened with brand new animatronics of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff. The long-awaited update saw new and improved versions of the characters (as seen on other versions of the ride, including Hong Kong Disneyland’s) replacing the original projection-mapped versions in place since the ride’s opening. Let it gooooo! These new animatronics are drawing even bigger crowds to the attraction, as many who’ve taken to skipping the crowded attraction in recent years are checking it out again to see the updated figures. Meaning that, unless you want to wait nearly an hour or try rope dropping the attraction, it may be worth using your Tier 1 Lightning Lane. The best Disney couple, sorry! Remy in a New Dimension Frozen Ever After isn’t the only EPCOT ride to see a big technical change recently. Five years after its 2021 opening, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure – the immersive trackless dark ride based on the Pixar film – remains IMMENSELY popular. The ride is usually a lock for being one of EPCOT’s 2-3 busiest rides based on average wait time every week, and is usually in the overall Top 10 of the resort according to our data. Remy’s Believe it or not, the ride is EVEN busier in 2026 thanks to the 2D conversion that eliminated the need for 3D glasses following 2025. That’s why, if you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you may want to use your Tier 1 Lightning Lane on Remy’s if you can. You can also try entering the International Gateway entrance from the EPCOT area hotels or the Skyliner and attempt to rope drop the attraction. No more 3D Take a Celebratory Flight In celebration of America’s 250th birthday this coming July 4th, EPCOT’s Soarin’ will receive an “all-new airborne adventure across the US, honoring the heart and spirit of the nation.” Disney even brought in “aviation” legend Patrick Warburton (IYKYK) to announce the overlay, which will be opening at Disney World on May 26th. ©Disney The New Lounge is Adults’ Only Located at the back of the park’s iconic Spaceship Earth, GEO-82 offers a selection of cocktails and appetizers in a setting that’s meant to celebrate “the storied history and enduring legacy of this timeless EPCOT icon.” However, in a first for a U.S. Disney park, the lounge is only for those 21+, which guests traveling with children must keep in mind. Clarified New York Sour at GEO-82 Of note, while GEO-82 is the only establishment at EPCOT limited to 21+, it’s not the park’s only eatery with an age minimum. Monsieur Paul in EPCOT’s France Pavilion requires that guests be AT LEAST 10 YEARS OLD, and the Japan Pavilion’s Takumi-Tei is slightly less strict, welcoming guests ages 8 AND ABOVE.
