Just the other day we shared word that one of our favorite Disney performers will be sharing his music at The Boathouse — the next restaurant presumed to be arriving on the Disney dining scene at Disney World’s Disney Springs. Concept art for The Boathouse — Outside View The Boathouse While all signs are pointing to a possible April 13th opening, we can’t yet confirm the opening date. What we can do today, though is give you a glimpse at The Boathouse menu — AND show you some food photos of the menu items! Now, remember, all information here is subject to change. But let’s have a look at a few screenshots from the My Disney Experience app, along with a few pictures from theboathouseorlando.com (huge thanks to DFB reader Jenny M. for giving us the heads up on these pics!). You’ll want to make yourself comfy, because the list is pretty extensive! As anticipated, this signature restaurant will focus on steaks, chops and seafood. In fact, let’s start with a look at the Steak, Chops & Provisions menu (for this first screenshot, I’ve left the map image so you can see where The Boathouse will be located — right next to Fulton’s). Among the many selections you’ll notice Filet Mignon and New York Strip (both with Bone-in options), a Porterhouse for Two, and a Tomahawk Long Bone Rib Chop for Two. Steak Chops menu Tomahawk ©theboathouseorlando.com The “Green Grass and High Tides” selections offer Surf and Turf made for sharing. The Beach & Sea Lobster Bake serves two, while The Boathouse Surf & Turf Table serves four. Green Grass and High Tides Menu Lobster Bake ©theboathouseorlando.com The Fish or Cut Bait menu offers dishes such as Wild Baja Shrimp de Jonghe and Hoison Glazed Florida Wahoo. Fish or Cut Bait menu Salmon ©theboathouseorlando.com But then, you may prefer to start with some appetizers from the “Launch” options, including Firecracker Shrimp and Coconut Frog Legs. “Launch” seafood appetizer menu Firecracker Shrimp ©theboathouseorlando.com “Stem to Stern” features Baked Crab Stuffed Lobster and Jumbo Lump Crab Cake as well as a Half Rotisserie Amish Chicken among the options for the landlubbers in your group. Stem to Stern menu Here’s a peek from the highly anticipated Raw Bar menu. Anastasia Gold Cavier, anyone ? Raw Bar Menu Tuna Poke ©theboathouseorlando.com The Field Day menu gives us a look at the Salad options. Field Day menu Among the Side Items you’ll find Shrimp & Andouille Mac ‘n Cheese (spelled incorrectly in the menu?) and Roasted Wild Mushrooms. Side Items Of course, you can’t forget the “Ports of Call”! Ports of Call Menu The “Not So Bitter End” gives us the dessert choices, like Whiskey Caramel Cornbread Cake and another shareable item: S’mores Baked Alaska for 4. (Clearly, the fact that one of the desserts is duplicated means that this is a preliminary menu and will be updated before the opening.) Dessert menu Oh, and the kiddos haven’t been forgotten! Here’s a look at the Kids’ Entrees, featuring Make Your Own Tacos and “Sticks and Stones” (Chicken Tenders and Fresh Fish Nuggets). Kids Entrees And for dessert, children can choose from items like an Icee Brain Freeze Float (no fair! Kids have all the fun! ), and an Oreo Chocolate Fudge Sundae. Kids Dessert Menu And one more for the kids… they can grab an Icee in a Lighthouse Cup to remember their time at The Boathouse! Kids Beverage option And, there you have it. Whew! While it’s clear that things will change a bit on this menu (I imagine many of the prices are stand-ins at this time), we’re looking forward to keeping you posted on more news from The Boathouse in the weeks to come! I don’t know about you, but I’m hungry already . Are you looking forward to dining at The Boathouse? Please let us know with a comment! In honor of today’s holiday, we thought we’d share a look back at one of Magic Kingdom Park’s Easter parades. This procession, which took place multiple years in the 1980s, featured Mr. & Mrs. Easter Bunny and friends strolling right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A. Check out Donald riding high in the giant Easter basket behind them. Is that an enormous chocolate bunny he’s standing next to? My favorite! It has been a lot of fun working on these “Moon over Walt Disney World†images over the years. Photographing a Super Moon or Blood Moon event presents a unique set of challenges. Here are some behind-the-scenes tips on how we shoot an event like this. Time of the eclipse – If the eclipse is happening well after moonrise or well before moonset, it is usually too overhead to include any Disney subject matter. The best photos come when the moon is close to the horizon within an hour of sunrise or sunset so the sky is not too dark.Unique Disney subject matter – You may have seen Super Moon with the Holiday Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth, as well as Blood Moon behind Crossroads Mickey from Hollywood Studios. These are all locations that can be photographed from a variety of angles and with a telephoto lens (300-600mm).Camera location – It is rare that the moon and a perfect camera location all line up. The preference is to have a steady camera location on the ground or on a rooftop. Most times, I need to have a bucket truck to get into the perfect spot or just get around an obstruction.Weather conditions – Clouds and fog always add another element of uncertainty. I like to think Walt helps me manage this! The first step I use to plan one of these photos is to use specific photo apps that tell me precisely where the moon will be at a specific time. One of my favorite apps works with Google Maps, so I get a very specific map of possible locations. For today’s blood moon, everything lined up perfectly at the new Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, other than a very tall stand of trees near the Ticket & Transportation Center. A quick call over to the Disney Arborists and my bucket truck operator, Carlos Lopez, and I was set for a 5 a.m. start this morning. Having the bucket truck allows me to get an elevated view (and work around trees, light poles, etc), but it also creates challenges because the bucket can cause a lot of camera movement when you are shooting at long exposure times. We usually have to move the truck a few times to get into the perfect spot. I prefer to shoot moonset because the Florida weather is a bit more predictable in the morning. The moon began to enter Earth’s shadow at 6:15 a.m. Moonset was at 7:13 a.m. The moon wasn’t in total eclipse until 7:58 a.m., well after the moon had dropped below the horizon. That is why you only see it partially shadowed in this photo. It was a very clear morning, but the moon became obscured by ground fog moments after this photo was taken. The 2015 Chocolate Easter Egg Display at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort isn’t the only sure sign of spring around here these days! Easter treats have been “hopping†up everywhere around Disney World Resort to celebrate this weekend’s holiday — not to mention the remainder of the Spring Break season through the end of next week. Of course, it wouldn’t be a holiday at Disney World without all sorts of specialty cupcakes, and Easter is no egg-ception. (I. Can’t. Stop. Doing. That!). At Epcot, a Chocolate Cupcake with marshmallow filling and marshmallow buttercream frosting can be found at Fountain View from now through April 11th, and at Sunshine Seasons for a very limited run on April 4th and 5th. ©Disney This beauty of a Carrot Cake Cupcake topped with a mini Bunny Macaron will be at the Contemporary Resort only through April 5th! The inside has a pineapple-coconut filling and it’s all topped with white chocolate buttercream frosting along with toasted coconut and — hooray! — jelly beans! ©Disney While there, be sure to check out the Contemporary Resort’s display of Chocolate Bunnies and decorated Easter Eggs presented by the Resort’s pastry chefs on the fourth floor! BoardWalk Bakery boasts its own Easter Cupcake: vanilla cake filled with raspberry panna cotta, topped off with a coconut nest filled with jelly beans. ©Disney And, of course, you can check out spots at the Magic Kingdom such as Main Street Confectionery and Big Top Treats for their version of a Carrot Cake Cupcake with Cream Cheese Icing, complete with an icing “carrot†on top. Also available will be a vanilla cupcake with a chocolate icing nest filled with malted milk eggs. These will be available through April 11th. A couple of Table Service restaurants will be operating on extended hours for the busy season. Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge will be open from 7:30 am – 2 pm on Easter Sunday, April 5th. As an added bonus for Boma guests, there will be a table of sweets available for takeaway! Guests will be permitted to fill a small box with treats like chocolate peanut butter eggs, jelly beans, and mini chocolate treats. 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian is offering the 1900 Park Fare Brunch for daily booking from 1 – 3 pm through April 5th. Please note: Disney characters are not attending the brunch. 1900 Park Fare 1900 Park Fare Returning to Animal Kingdom Lodge, Kidani Village will convert the Palace Library into the “Library Lounge,†from 4 pm – midnight throughout the busy spring break season. Appetizers and cocktails from Sanaa will be available for purchase. Apparently, Animal Kingdom Lodge is THE place to be for spring break… Maji Pool Bar will be hosting a cookout! Taking place now through April 12th, guests can enjoy poolside eats like burgers (beef, veggie, or chicken) and bratwurst. Maji Pool Bar The cookout will happen — weather permitting — daily from 11 am until 6 pm. Whew! The fun never stops around here! No matter what your spring celebration holds, we hope it’s a good one!
