  6. It’s hard to top Mother’s Day at Disney World! Amorette’s We hope you had a FANTASTIC Mother’s Day this past weekend! If you visited Disney World on the special day, we hope you stopped by Disney Springs and Amorette’s Patisserie for a Mother’s Day treat! If you missed out — don’t worry! We have the deets! Amorette’s Patisserie offered the Mother’s Day-exclusive Mother’s Day Éclair and we were quick to try it! Read ahead to see what we thought! Mother’s Day Éclair This dessert cost $7.25 and was described as a lemon and lavender éclair. Aesthetically, this was a beautiful dessert! The “flower” icing decorations and chocolate medallion perfectly fit the Mother’s Day vibe and were quite tasty! We picked up a hint of cream cheese (perhaps used as a base for the decorations) and the decorations balanced sweet and tart with a creamy texture. We only wish it wasn’t so hot outside because our medallion melted QUICKLY. Inside the éclair The éclair decorations had to do a lot of heavy lifting, as we found the bread to be incredibly dry. Fortunately, the filling had strong flavors of lemon and lavender and was creamy enough to leave us happy, when it’s all said and done. These éclairs didn’t last long! We thought this éclair was a nice mix of sweet and tart, but thought it was a potentially messy dessert. Overall, we thought this was a good specialty treat. Despite liking this éclair, we can’t recommend it simply because it’s no longer available! We’ll just have to wait and see if it returns for the next Mother’s Day! 7. Between new restaurants, rides, and rethemed classics, Disney is always trying to keep things interesting and exciting for us! Cinderella Castle But, more often than not, that means a bit of renovation is needed in order to make it happen. Keeping up with the latest construction permits Disney files can be a great way to find out just what is going on around the parks and hotels, and we just found a pretty exciting one! We’re always on the hunt for the latest permits filed by Disney to get an idea of what sort of changes might be coming to the parks, and we just found an interesting one! A new permit has been filed for work over at the Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom. Carousel of Progress The permit is for “general construction” which could really mean anything — so we’re not totally sure what Disney has planned here. The Carousel of Progress first debuted at the New York World’s Fair in 1964 and was later moved to Disneyland before finding its final home at Disney World. So, this is a rather old attraction! Carousel of Progress We don’t think this will be a major retheme or anything, but the ride could use a little TLC, so maybe a refurbishment is on the horizon. For now, there aren’t any closures listed for Carousel of Progress, but we’ll be keeping an eye out! Fall on Carousel of Progress In other permit news, we spotted that Swirled Showcase — the EPCOT festival booth — had a new permit pulled on it as well. The description lists “Provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction,” so we’ll be keeping an eye out for any changes here as well. It’s possible we could see something new here in time for the Food & Wine Festival! Swirled Showcase And, despite its recent extended closure, yet another permit has been filed for the Doubloon Lagoon pool at Port Orleans French Quarter — so we’ll let you know if any more closures are on the horizon for this pool soon enough. 9. Summer is nearly here and although summers at Disney World are a blast, there are still some downsides you need to be warned about. Cinderella Castle Between large crowds and hurricane season, Disney World can be tricky to navigate during the summer months. However, one of the most glaring issues is the heat — and Disney World guests will be feeling it in spades this week! According to News 6, the Orlando area will encounter scattered storms and high temperatures in the next few days thanks to a stationary front. Can you beat the heat at Disney World? Tuesday (May 14th, 2024) is supposed to be the hottest day of the week with temperatures reaching 94 degrees Fahrenheit and a heat index of 102. Wednesday remains nearly as hot with temperatures around 91 degrees and a heat index of 99 degrees. Thursday also shows similar trends. ©ClickOrlando.com The heat is expected to feature highs of mid- to low 90s and peak heat indices between 100-105 degrees in the afternoon hours, according to News 6. Lows are expected to remain in the upper 60s to low 70s in the evenings. Rain is possible every day through Sunday, May 19th, with rainfall possibility being as high as 60% on Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday each have a 50% rainfall chance and Friday through Sunday each have a 40% chance. Thursday has the lowest rain chance with 30%. ©ClickOrlando.com If you’re visiting Disney World this week, or any week where this kind of weather might occur — we have a few recommendations. Rule No. 1 is to always stay hydrated and take breaks as needed. The heat will make it nearly impossible to go full speed. Also be sure to pack sunscreen and other protection, such as hats, cooling towels, and misting fans. We also recommend wearing breathable clothes and bringing stormwear with you to the Disney Parks, like ponchos and rain jackets. Remember, these are hot STORMS, and you’ll need to prep for the heat AND the rain. 11. It’s no secret we’re BIG fans of the food in all the parks at Disney World. Hollywood Studios But Disney’s Hollywood Studios has some delicious snacks that we particularly care to enjoy. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has delicious ronto wraps, Toy Story Land has fun “totchos” and pop tarts, plus so much more. But there is one snack cart that we’ve been worried about for a while now, and clearly, we had good reason to be! For the past month or so now, we’ve noticed that the Grand Avenue Snack Cart was closed every time we visited it. This snack cart is located on Grand Avenue (hence its name) near the new Ice Cold Hydraulics stand and the walkway to MuppetVision 3D. Don’t worry, we’ve included a beautiful drawing of its precise location! ©Disney (drawing by us) But sadly, we have seen it all covered up like in the picture below for a while now. It’s been closed for a while now When we were back in the park the other day, we found that the snack stand was completely GONE! Disney removed the snack stand, but the umbrella that is normally with it was still there. It’s GONE! Disney didn’t give any indication of what has befallen this snack stand, and we’re certainly worried about its condition. It could be getting an upgrade or perhaps taken to never return again. We love our snacks, so one less place to grab them is unfortunate. It’s more than likely that it will return, but we’ll be keeping our eyes out for it! If you’re in the neighborhood and in need of a snack, then consider hopping over to Ice Cold Hydraulics for some Coca-Cola-flavored treats. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 15. We’re in Disney World every day of the year, so we’ve come to know the parks very well. Magic Kingdom That’s why we’re always sharing the latest Disney World secrets with you, as well as our best tips and tricks. We also like to keep you updated on new food, plus any cool new facts we learn about the parks. Well, although we’ve been to Disney World HUNDREDS of times, we’re still learning something new every day. We just recently learned something about a Magic Kingdom ride that blew our minds, so we had to share it with you! Okay, so we’ve all been on Space Mountain, right? It’s a classic Disney attraction that is a MUST, even though we know it’s going to shake every bone in our body loose from the joints (seriously, our poor backs). So let’s talk about Space Mountain. It feels kinda’ fast, right? Well, Space Mountain is going under 30 mph. That’s it. It just feels more thrilling in the dark, we guess. Space Mountain Okay, let’s talk about The Barnstormer over in Storybook Circus. So The Barnstormer is considered a “kiddie coaster,” because it mostly appeals to kids (although, we won’t lie — we love Barnstormer and think it’s way underrated). However, did you know that Barnstormer and Space Mountain go about the same speed? No, really, there’s only about a 2mph difference between the two. Barnstormer In comparison, one of Magic Kingdom’s other roller coasters, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, goes around 36 mph. So it’s not MUCH faster, but it’s enough to make a difference and to sling you into whoever you’re riding with when you take those sharp turns. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad However, if you want something a LOT faster, Magic Kingdom’s newest ride, Tron Lightcycle / Run, offers speeds up to nearly 60mph. Now THAT’S fast. TRON Lightcycle / Run So why is The Barnstormer considered a kiddie coaster? Well, it’s certainly marketed that way because most of Storybook Circus is very kid-friendly. But the truth is that it offers a very similar experience, at least when it comes to speed, as you get on Space Mountain. The only difference is location and theme. How wild is that? The Barntstormer entrance We would also argue that The Barnstormer isn’t as bone-shaking as Space Mountain. It certainly feels like a smoother ride. So if you’re looking for a coaster that isn’t TOO fast and that is a little more comfortable, head on over to Storybook Circus. Stay tuned to DFB for more. We’ve been monitoring the construction progress in Magic Kingdom for AGES as Splash Mountain slowly transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Disney has shared all kinds of fun updates about the animatronics on the ride, teased a beignet-scented queue, and tested the big drop LIVE in Magic Kingdom. We also shared that the ride is opening in Magic Kingdom in the summer of 2024, but now the moment has arrived — we have the official, CONFIRMED opening DATE! Now, you might have noticed we emphasized an official, confirmed opening date. That’s because this news was seemingly leaked EARLY. Yep, Disney shared — and quickly took down — a press release announcing the opening date on May 12th. Below, you can see the dateline read “(TBD, 2024).” Press Release Screen Shot From Disney Press Website A few minutes after Disney shared the news, the press release was removed from the Disney Press Website. That had fans wondering…WHEN is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure actually opening?! Press Release Removed From Press Website Well, during ABC’s special “Disney Night” episode of American Idol, Disney confirmed that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will officially open in Magic Kingdom on June 28th, 2024. ©Disney Disney also confirmed that Florida-based Cast Members, Annual Passholders, and eligible Disney Vacation Club Members will be able to preview the ride AHEAD of the opening date! More information will be revealed starting May 14th — stay tuned! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom While Park Passes are not required for those with date-based tickets anymore, if you are an Annual Passholder or have tickets that still require Park Passes, you should make your Park Pass reservations for Magic Kingdom A.S.A.P. if you want to be there on the ride’s opening day! We expect those Park Passes will fill up in no time! The new mural! For those unfamiliar with it, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a Princess and the Frog re-theme of Splash Mountain. While you’ll still get to experience the signature drop from the old ride, the story will be all new. The ride picks up after the Princess and the Frog movie, giving you the chance to “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” ©Disney According to the story of the ride, Princess Tiana has opened her own restaurant (Tiana’s Palace). She is now hosting a Mardi Gras party for the community that has supported her and her restaurant, but she realizes that a key ingredient is missing, and she needs your help to find it! It’s Mardi Gras season! You’ll get to help Tiana on this quest while also meeting lots of friends — old and new! Princess Tiana will appear with a NEW look, and we’ll get to see other characters too, like Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Maldonia, Prince Naveen, Louis, Mama Odie, and even Prince Ralphie (Naveen’s brother). Louis animatronic ©Disney Some of the new characters for the ride include a band of musical critters! The song will have a NEW original song created by PJ Morton, all kinds of special details in the queue (like the smell of beignets!), and more. AND Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will even feature a few “subtle nods” to Splash Mountain throughout the ride. ©Disney So, grab somebody, come on down, catch you down in New Orleans (well, technically we’ll catch you down in Frontierland, but you get the idea!). Oh, and while you’re at it, consider grabbing a Briar Patch Band shirt to celebrate its “farewell tour.” Briar Patch Tee Or you can grab a Tiana tee to celebrate the NEW attraction! 25. Disney World has had its share of memorable snacks, and yeah, we’re snacking around the parks and resorts ALL the time. Contemporary Resort We’ll never not order Corn Dog Nuggets from Casey’s Corner (with plastic cheese, of course). We’ll make time for a Dole Whip no matter where we are. We will never say “no” to those Mickey Beignets at Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts. But we just found a NEW snack that will be the ONLY thing we’re talking about for a while, so #sorrynotsorry. Be honest. Did you know that a thing such as the Croissant Cookie even existed? Naturally, we left Magic Kingdom in a hurry and hopped on the Monorail to go straight to Contempo Cafe at Disney’s Contemporary Resort to try one for ourselves. So what is it? It’s a Crispy, flaky croissant topped with powdered sugar and milk chocolate drizzle and filled with chocolate chip cookie dough. Okay, give us a minute to stop drooling. So, yeah, it looks just like a regular croissant with powdered sugar and a chocolate drizzle. The croissant itself is perfect — soft, warm, and flaky. Croissant Cookie Inside is that heavenly chocolate chip cookie dough! When we cut into this thing, well…if you saw someone get emotional over at Contempo Cafe over a croissant, you’ll know why. You’ve got that chocolate chip cookie dough and that croissant, and the flavors and textures are just a perfect combo. We even think we tasted a hint of cinnamon in there, so that’s even better, right? See that layer of cookie dough? So yes, we had to tell the world about this treat, which you can grab right now for $5.29. We’d leave Magic Kingdom again for it, so we hope that’s saying something. Stay tuned to DFB for more. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered!
