  1. Let us begin with a little personal anecdote. As the resident Disney EXPERTS around here, our family and friends come to us with any and EVERY kind of Disney-related question. This includes questions like, “So what exactly is Genie+?” and “Where should I go to eat when I’m at Magic Kingdom?” Often, we’re also asked questions that only a human Disney encyclopedia would know the answer to, like “Where can I go to fill my water bottle?” And guess what? We have answers to it ALL! Disney World But if you don’t have your own personal Disney encyclopedia at your disposal, we’ve got a solution! When it comes to obscure Disney information, sometimes, you’ve gotta go straight to the source. Let us explain! When you’re standing in the Magic Kingdom with an empty bottle of water, what do you do? Sure, you can take the time to search around online (or consult the DFB page with a list of locations), but sometimes it’s easier to check a map. Starting NOW, Disney added a NEW feature to the My Disney Experience app. That’s right — you can see all the water bottle refill stations right on your Disney World app! To find the new feature, just search “water bottle refill stations” on My Disney Experience. Then, tap “Find on Map.” ©Disney The map covers ALL Disney World locations! Here’s a look at the water bottle refill stations in Magic Kingdom. If you tap on those “i” icons, the app will give you a description of the location. Pretty handy, eh? ©Disney This new feature can be a BIG help for those who bring reusable water bottles to the parks. But we must admit, not all Disney water is equal! The DFB team even has a ranking of all the best (and worst) tasting water in Disney World. ©Disney Here’s a look at the map over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You’ve got a LOT of refill station options around the park. ©Disney Currently, the map is only showing two refill stations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, so make sure to fill your bottle when you’re in the Pandora area! ©Disney Even the Disney World HOTELS are listed on the My Disney Experience app! Here, you can see the stations at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. ©Disney Whether you’re refilling a Stanley cup, an Owala water bottle, or even a Disney Resort Refillable Mug, you’ve got TONS of options around Disney World. ©Disney We have a feeling this new feature is going to be POPULAR! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 2. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the measles outbreak in Florida. via Orlando Sentinel It first started in South Florida, eventually making its way to Central Florida. And now, measles has been reported in Orlando. Here’s what we know. Orlando Health has confirmed four measles cases at its Central Florida emergency departments within the past month, the Orlando Sentinel has reported. State officials say there is “no outbreak” in the Orlando area itself. One case was an adult with the other three being children under 2, according to a spokesperson for Orlando Health. No other details have been released at this time, but the Florida Department of Health has reported only two measles cases in kids less than 2 years old in 2024. This means at least one case treated by Orlando Health this month has not been recorded in the public tally for the state. ©Mayo Clinic The state health department has reported 10 measles cases in 2024 so far: nine in Broward County and one in Polk County. Most of the Broward cases were linked to a single school, Manatee Bay Elementary. Weesam Khoury is a Florida Department of Health spokesperson who wouldn’t discuss specifics about the Orlando patients, but said, “There is no community outbreak of measles in Orlando.” Florida Palm Trees She continued, “Cases of communicable diseases are not classified as a Florida case if they are not residents. If a non-Florida resident gets a communicable disease outside Florida, it is not a Florida case.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that as of Friday there have been at least 35 measles cases in 15 states in 2024, most of which are related to international travel. ©Maine.gov In addition, the Florida Surgeon General, Joseph Ladapo, shared a letter telling parents that despite 21 days being the recommended time to keep unvaccinated kids at home when exposed, the decision to keep their children home was up to them. This goes against traditional public health guidance and garnered criticism. Travel “This [advice] is contrary to 50 years of really good public health policy,” said Dr. Kenneth Alexander, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Nemours Children’s Health in Orlando. “We’re leaving up to parents a decision that parents don’t have the toolset to make.” To avoid contracting this highly contagious disease, the CDC recommends “children get two doses of the vaccine, with a first dose at ages 12 through 15 months, and the second dose at 4 through 6 years of age.” Stay tuned to DFB as we continue to bring you news you can use ahead of your next Disney World trip. 3. Back in 2023, Disney announced that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness would be getting a makeover. Imagineers have redesigned these spaces to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort (but you don’t have to be a Disney Vacation Club member to book a stay in a new cabin.) ©Disney We’ve been keeping up with all the updates Disney has revealed about the new cabins, but what’s going to happen to the old ones? We know Disney will be getting rid of them, so will they be gone for good? Our answer might just be hiding…in the Grand Canyon. Would you vacation in an old Fort Wilderness cabin even if it wasn’t at Fort Wilderness? What if you could actually live in one of these babies? As it turns out, that might actually be the case based on a post on Facebook. Old Fort Wilderness Cabin According to the post, Disney is apparently offloading the old Fort Wilderness cabins and they’re being put up for sale. Further down in the comments of the post, the original poster says the cabins can be delivered anywhere within 45 minutes of Orlando and that each unit is priced at $49,900. via Facebook We were skeptical, of course, until we found another listing for a Fort Wilderness cabin — this time as an AirBnB in Williams, Arizona, near the Grand Canyon. The listing bills it as a “Fort Wilderness Cabin Relocated from Disney World,” and the description says: via AirBNB “In its previous life, our cabin served as guest quarters at Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to purchase it and relocate it to our rural ten acres in the woods just north of Williams, near the Grand Canyon. Guests who have stayed in a Fort Wilderness cabin prior to Disney’s 2016 remodel may recognize the authentic Disney furnishings and artwork from Disney’s Imagineering department. Plus, it’s got the original Murphy bed and hidden Mickeys!” via AirBNB It’s important to note that this cabin is an older model, from before a refurbishment. via AirBNB We reached out to Disney to confirm if they were, in fact, selling the old Fort Wilderness cabins and were told that this was a “parody” and that they were not selling them. But, this Grand Canyon cabin has us second-guessing. Just take a look at some of the photos, it looks just like the real thing! Even if this is just a clever rebuild, you can’t deny how similar it looks. via AirBNB So, while you may be able to vacation or even live in a Fort Wilderness cabin outside of Disney World — proceed with caution. The official word from Disney is that they aren’t selling the old cabins, so keep that in mind if you’re interested in living the log life. via AirBNB In the meantime, you can now book your stays for the NEW Cabins at Fort Wilderness in Disney World! The general public have had access since February 27th, and new DVC members whose home resort is The Cabins can begin booking online or with Member Services on March 12th. After April 23rd, all members can begin booking stays. Stay tuned to DFB as we continue to bring you the latest news from Disney World and more! 4. Walt Disney was right. It looks like Disneyland will NEVER stop growing and expanding. Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Disney recently dropped a new map on their DisneylandForward website that goes over some of the potential changes to their $1.9 billion investment plan to continue growing and expanding Disneyland, and we wanted to take a closer look at the map to point out some of those updates you might have missed! When you head over to the website, you’ll find there’s a new “Possibilities Map” that reflects the updated ideas and approvals for upcoming changes to Disneyland. Here’s that map: ©Disney Now it’s time to put on your detective hat and arm yourself with the map’s legend to make sense of it all. Here’s that legend: ©Disney Let’s start analyzing this map by zooming in on the left-hand side which we’ll arbitrarily call “DisneylandForward West” since it’s on the West side of the map (to the left of both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on the map). ©Disney Both sections have what appear to be walkways that would go over Disneyland Drive and connect the sections to their respective park (the top for Disneyland and the bottom for Disney California Adventure). This layout seems to indicate that it’s more likely to become an extension of each of the current theme parks as opposed to becoming brand new theme parks in their own right, so similar to a themed land being added to one of the existing parks. ©Disney Disney shared that this plan would allow them to bring more innovative and immersive attractions to the parks and if we reference the concept rendering for this area, we can see that it looks more and more likely that this will be more theme parks. The website mentions the possibility of lands based on Neverland and others similar to Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disney Resort, Rapunzel’s Forest at Tokyo DisneySea, and World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland. When you zoom even further into the map, it does look like they have conceptually designed the layout around four distinct lands. ©Disney If we had to put on our imagination hats, we could speculate that the top section would house a land like Rapunzel’s Forest… ©Disney …and this bottom section would house Zootopia, World of Frozen, and a Neverland area. Now, turning our sights to the other proposed section, which we’ll dub “DisneylandForward South” since it’s on the South side of the map, it seems more plausible that this area would be developed into something akin to Disney Springs. ©Disney It could even be a hybrid of the Springs and Disney’s Boardwalk being that there appears to be a combination of hotels and retail. Either way, Disney said, “This property could be the perfect location to cater to locals, conventioneers, hotel and Disneyland Resort guests with restaurants, hotels, live music, shopping, ticketed shows and theme park experiences modeled after the popular Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.” Disneyland We’ll continue to keep you updated with MORE Disney news. 8. There is just SO much going on in Disney World right now — so many things are changing! Magic Kingdom We’ve got new restaurants on the way at Disney’s BoardWalk Hotel. We’ve got a land re-theme coming up in Animal Kingdom. We’ve got a whole EXPANSION planned for Magic Kingdom. Plus, Magic Kingdom is getting a new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (formerly Splash Mountain). Well, we’ve got a big update about that ride! We’ve been checking up on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure nearly every day, especially as we get closer to its official opening this summer (which is WAY earlier than we originally expected). We saw the pretty water tower go up, and we saw the ride get converted from red clay to a green salt dome with flowers. We’ve started to notice smaller details, as well as seen the ride vehicles running through the ride. It’s so exciting! Here’s what it looked like last time we checked: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Previously, most of the structure of the ride was covered in scaffolding, meaning that work on the exterior was still in progress. Well, today, the scaffolding on the top of the ride is GONE. This is a BIG step towards the big opening date — the less scaffolding we see, the closer we’re getting! Scaffolding on top is gone Note that there is still scaffolding on the sides of the ride, so those parts are still being worked on. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up shortly after the end of The Princess and the Frog. Tiana has her own restaurant and her own food co-op. She’s throwing a MASSIVE party for the folks of New Orleans, but she’s missing a key ingredient, and she will need US to go into the bayou to find it. Of course, that will lead us on an adventure through the ride that culminates with the big drop. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney Disney recently released a first look at the Tiana animatronic, and, y’all, it looks SO good. The company also announced it’s going to make us HUNGRY while we’re waiting in the queue with the smell of fresh beignets. There will be original music inspired by the movie, plus many of the movie’s voice actors are returning to reprise their roles for the ride. SO EXCITING! ©Disney You know we’ll be around for the previews of the ride, as well as opening day — we’re “Almost There!” Stay tuned to DFB for more. Tree of Life You can totally do it! Just be sure to watch out for booby traps. Yes, seriously. There are all sorts of booby traps that you can fall victim to at Disney World. Anyway, we’re going to be like your handy dandy map and guidebook today and tell you about these booby traps ahead of time so that you know how to navigate them. Let’s go, Indy! Dining Plan Meals that Deplete Your Sources On January 9th, the Disney Dining Plan returned for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic. With the return of the Disney Dining Plan, there were a few updates that occurred. The Dining Plan is based on credits. For the basic dining plan, you get one table service meal per day, one quick service meal per day, and one snack per day. Roundup Rodeo BBQ While most Disney World restaurants count for one credit, you must use TWO table service credits at the following: Cinderella’s Royal Table Akershus Royal Banquet Hall — Princess Storybook Dining Story Book Dining with Snow White at Artist Point So… choose wisely! Don’t go spendin’ all your credits in one place and depletin’ our sources. Click here for more on the Disney Dining Plan Parade Cancellations that Set off Wailing Sirens Kiddos Imagine that your kiddo is so excited to see Ariel in Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade after you told them about it the morning-of. Ariel in the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom Imagine their reaction when the parade gets cancelled and they don’t understand why they can’t see Ariel… We’d recommend keeping a watchful eye on the My Disney Experience app so that you’ll know ahead of time whether or not a parade showing will take place. Oh, and sometimes, you’ll want to check Disney’s website well in advance of your trip to see if parades and shows will be happening. Ariel in Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade! For example, the Festival of Fantasy parade typically happens twice daily, but sometimes they change it to once daily. Usually, they have this on the calendar a while in advance so that no one is caught off guard. This also pertains to shows around Disney World as well! Click here to see Disney’s entertainment options Restaurants that Close Before the Parks Which Will Leave You Weak and Hangry No one likes being hungry. ESPECIALLY after a long day walking around the theme parks. A lot of folks plan to grab a snack or meal as they’re walking out of the theme parks at the end of the day, and then are left disappointed when they realize that the restaurants are closed. Casey’s Corner Please check the Disney World app for restaurant hours ahead of time! Although a park might close at 10PM, the restaurants might close at 9. It’s just better to be prepared. Click here to see our restaurant recommendations for 2024! Pool Closures That Leave You With No Respite From Treacherous Heat Just like the Disney World rides, the hotel pools undergo routine maintenance to keep them in great shape for the upcoming seasons. These typically take place in the winter, but Disney World winters are still pretty warm. So, you might not have a pool to seek respite! Stormalong Bay These closures should be listed on the Disney World booking website, but you can also ask a Cast Member at booking to ensure that the pool will be available when you visit. 11. New Disney Cruise Line anthem now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and more CELEBRATION, Fla. (March. 1, 2024) – Award-winning singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks lends her powerful vocals to a magnetic new anthem dedicated to Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure. Released today on streaming platforms, “Live the Adventure” sets the tone for a bold new era of Disney Cruise Line vacations as the ship enters the final stages of construction and prepares to set sail in December. “For me, this is a really cool moment,” Sparks said. “I’ve been wanting to do something like this for so long. I’m very excited that [“Live the Adventure”] is going to be part of the Disney repertoire, and that it’s going to be an original with my vocals on it.” This is the first time Disney Cruise Line has released a signature song for one of its ships, a fitting innovation for an imaginative vessel. Embracing the dynamic tales of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and Disney Parks, the Disney Treasure will offer captivating and immersive vacations on the high seas. Highly anticipated debut experiences include Plaza de Coco, a brand-new theatrical dining experience themed to the Pixar film; Haunted Mansion Parlor, the first-ever bar inspired by the iconic Disney Parks attraction; and “Disney The Tale of Moana,” the world’s first stage adaptation of the beloved animated movie. “Live the Adventure,” with its bold and upbeat arrangement, embodies the unique theme of adventure that connects these heartwarming stories and experiences aboard the Disney Treasure, a motif inspired by Walt Disney’s legendary passion for travel and exploration. “Live the Adventure” features lyrical and instrumental nods to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Aladdin,” taking cues from the Grand Hall – the Disney Treasure’s central hub and most prominent gathering space. The evocative tune blends Sparks’ signature pop stylings with Agrabah-inspired sounds to capture the irresistible allure of embarking on a new adventure with family and friends. “I really like ‘Live the Adventure’ because it’s happy – it automatically makes you feel like it’s going to be a great day,” Sparks said. “It’s saying we can discover the treasure of what the day is going to bring.” “The ability to work with Jordin Sparks is amazing,” said John Dennis, executive creative director, Walt Disney Imagineering. “She has been a terrific partner, and her vocal style is perfect for ‘Live the Adventure’.” The original song was written by Dewain Whitmore, Jr. and Chantry Johnson and produced by Brandon N. Caddell. “Live the Adventure” is now available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, and Deezer, and is also accessible on the Instagram music library for use in feed posts and Stories. The Disney Treasure, sister ship to the Disney Wish that launched in 2022, will embark on its maiden voyage, a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Dec. 21, followed by an inaugural season of seven-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral. 12. We are OBSESSED with McDonald’s Happy Meals. Okay, actually, what we’re really obsessed with are Happy Meal toys. That’s probably because Disney often collaborates with McDonald’s on exclusive Happy Meal toys. Yes, we had a BLAST when we were trying to collect all those 100th Anniversary figures (and we’re still missing some). Happy Meal Disney also often works with McDonald’s to create Happy Meal toys inspired by upcoming movie releases. However, McDonald’s released some new Happy Meal toys for a Disney movie…that isn’t expected to hit theaters until next year? Say what?! Last year, two Hollywood entertainment strikes resulted in the delay of quite a few movies, including some on Disney’s slate of upcoming releases. One of those movies was Elio, a Pixar film about a young boy who has problems just getting to school on time but somehow becomes the first human to make contact with aliens. The movie stars Yonas Kibreab as Elio and America Ferrera as Olga Solis, Elio’s mom. ©Pixar Elio was initially set to release on March 1st, 2024, but ended up getting pushed back by over a year. The new release date is June 13th, 2025. You might think that Disney would delay its promotions associated with the film as well, but at least in some countries, a new Happy Meal with toys from Elio is coming soon. ©McDonald’s Here’s a look at the NEW Elio Happy Meal toys. Hey, at least we have a sneak peek of all the new characters we’ll soon get to meet! Is anyone else laughing at the name “Glordon”? Good one, Disney. You’ll find these new Happy Meal toys in Latin American countries like Uruguay, Colombia, and Brazil. ©McDonald’s We must admit, we’re a little jealous that these new toys aren’t available in the U.S. We sure would like to add Ambassador Mira to our Happy Meal toy collection — she looks so cute! ©McDonald’s In the U.S., some new Multiversus/Warner Bros. Happy Meal toys are on the way soon. Also, remember that in the U.S., McDonald’s will donate one cent for every Happy Meal sold to Ronald McDonald House charities. ©McDonald’s We’ll keep an eye out for more Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 13. We’ve got excellent news — you can now book your 2025 Disney World vacation! Wilderness Lodge That’s right, you can now make reservations for your trip next year. We’ve figured out the cheapest days and even found out that two popular hotel perks will be returning in 2025, too. Here’s the thing, though — Disney opened these bookings months earlier than they did last year, which begs the question: why? Bookings for 2025 Disney World vacations are officially open which means you can now start planning your trip for next year! But, what’s interesting is that Disney opened these reservations up months earlier than they have in the past. Last year, it wasn’t until May that 2024 bookings opened. This year, they were available as of February 27th. Cinderella Castle So, why did Disney open vacations up in an entirely different fiscal quarter for 2025? Well, we don’t know for sure, but we do have a few theories. They need the financial boost for the quarter. Disney hasn’t held its earnings call for this quarter yet since it’s not quite over, but it’s possible that the beginning of the year produced some less-than-stellar financial results. During the last company earnings call, we learned that overall, Disney made $23.5 billion in first-quarter revenue which was similar to the prior year’s. Tree of Life CEO Bob Iger shared that their strong performance in the last quarter “demonstrates we have turned the corner and entered a new era.” The company shared that they are “achieving significant cost reductions” throughout their businesses. They have saved over $500 million in selling, general, and administrative expenses in the first quarter. Maybe that trend has continued and Disney is doing just fine (probably.) But, there’s always a chance that the company made this decision consciously to help bolster revenue. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure And, since we know that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is slated to open in summer 2024 in Magic Kingdom (which is in a new quarter) — Disney could be planning on park attendance (and thus revenue) getting a little bit of traction from folks wanting to experience the newest ride. Everything We Know About Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World They’re doing it ahead of the upcoming shareholder meeting. Disney has been engaged in a nasty proxy battle for the Board of Directors thanks to activist investor Nelson Peltz (again.) Disney’s annual shareholders meeting will take place on April 3rd, 2024, and ahead of the meeting, both Disney and Peltz have been campaigning for control of the Board of Directors. ©Getty Images Suppose Disney is able to present positive financial results to the shareholders from this quarter. In that case, they have a higher likelihood of maintaining control of the board and leaving Peltz and Jay Rasulo (former Chief Financial Officer of Disney) along with Blackwells Capital (who are also trying to gain seats on the board) in the dust. ©Disney The power lies with Disney shareholders, who on April 3rd will have the opportunity to vote for the new members of Disney’s Board of Directors. Nelson Peltz hopes to make significant changes to Disney’s current Board, but Disney has made it clear they do not endorse Peltz’s ideas. Disney has taken a hard stance against Peltz and his allies and even went so far as to publish an eight-point page debunking Peltz’s claims. Learn More About Disney’s Upcoming Shareholder Meeting They’re trying to get a jump on Epic Universe We don’t know if you’ve heard, but a brand-new theme park is coming to Orlando — just not to Disney World. Universal’s Epic Universe is coming soon and it’s been the talk of the town ever since we learned more about what exactly we can expect from this new park. But, Universal has announced a 2025 opening timeline — which might have Disney worried. The Cronos ©Universal Epic Universe vacations aren’t open for booking yet, but chances are it’s only a matter of time before folks can make reservations to experience the five themed lands that will make up this park: Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. Some people who would normally book a 2025 Disney World vacation may be holding out and hoping to experience Epic Universe instead. With Disney opening bookings early this year, they’re potentially hoping to lock folks into a vacation before they can do the same for Epic Universe. ©Universal As we said, we’re ultimately not privy to the inner workings of The Walt Disney Company, but they’ve been in the game for a while so we’re sure there was a solid reason or two behind this decision. Either way, it means you can get to planning your 2025 Disney World vacation, which sounds like a win to us! Is Disney Accidentally Paying for Universal’s Expansion? 14. Listen, I don’t get embarrassed about many things. We have to chat about a huge bathroom problem If you want to talk about real life, personal, “taboo” stuff, I’m your gal. Yep, I’m totally open to chatting about TMI things that happen to you in the Disney World bathrooms. Like, it happens to all of us, so why shouldn’t we just laugh about it? You get the point. And today I need to talk about the elephant in every Disney World bathroom. Yessiree. The toilet paper. My dad went to Disney World ONE time, and a comment of his has been trapped in my brain ever since. He went to the bathroom, and when he came back out, he said, “That right there is what you call ‘John Wayne toilet paper.’ It’s rough, tough, and doesn’t take off NOBODY.” Toilet Paper Yeah. Precisely. This post is about the epidemic of John Wayne toilet paper that’s running RAMPANT at Disney World. Like, this is a luxury theme park. Why are we using ONE PLY?! Actually, scratch that. This is more like half-ply. Quarter-ply. Toilet paper It has gotten to the point where some of our team members have contemplated shoving rolls of their own toilet paper into their park bags. Fort Wilderness This might be a bit better if the bathrooms at the resorts, especially the DELUXE RESORTS, had better toilet paper. They don’t. The John Wayne toilet paper haunts even the $1,500-per-night hotel rooms. Toilet Paper Anyway, nothing is more uncomfortable than toilet paper that doesn’t do its job. We know we’re not the only ones thinking this, so we’re opening this conversation. And hopefully, Disney will hear our pleas. Please, Disney. We don’t want John Wayne. We want plush. Luxurious. Quilted. Two ply. We’ll continue hoping and praying for better TP. In the meantime, be sure to follow along for more Disney news so that you never miss a thing! A low-fare airline has added a NEW flight to the Orlando International Airport (MCO), and it will help a few of you out a TON. Frontier Airlines is a popular low-fare option when it comes to domestic travel. Now, they’ve announced 17 new routes — to and from the Caribbean! Do you fly to Disney World? Beginning May 25, 2024, passengers will be able to fly from Orlando International Airport (MCO) directly to St. Croix (STX). So, if you live in the Caribbean (we’re jealous), you can easily get to Orlando with Frontier. Or, if you’re visiting either location, you can add on to your vacation with ease. Frontier Plane at the Orlando Airport The route will operate once weekly, and you can currently grab this flight for $69. However, the promotional fare offer is only good until 11:59PM TODAY, March 1st, 2024. So, you’re going to want to act FAST. Air travel There’s only one thing. To be clear, we’re not saying that you’ll encounter these with all Disney World hotel rooms, just that we’ve experienced various problems from time to time! Let’s dive right in. 21. Disney World means long days and tired feet, and for coffee drinkers, that morning coffee is a super important way to start the day on vacation! Disney World entrance sign We recently tested a new coffee hack that not only changed our lives, but will probably change yours as well! Long days are a part of the Disney World experience. If you plan on going from rope drop to close you are going to need fuel to power through the day. There are a lot of places to grab coffee from in the parks and at the resorts. But if you need that first sip of iced coffee to hit your soul as soon as you open your eyes in the morning, we’ve got a super suggestion for you! COFFEE! Disney World has a lot of great iced coffees — you can grab your favorite iced Starbucks drink at locations in any of the Disney World Parks or at Disney Springs, try the Shakin’ Jamaican or other iced drinks at Joffrey’s kiosks around Disney World, or get an iced cold brew at Gideon’s Bakehouse or Everglazed. Joffrey’s Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew The key to having great iced coffee in your hotel room in the morning is to pick one up the night before! That’s right! Go to Starbucks or Joffrey’s on your way out of the parks — or stop by a coffee location at Disney Springs after dinner. Order that iced coffee you love, but get it with NO ICE. This way you can refrigerate in your hotel room and have it to wake you up in the morning! Connections Cafe Starbucks Now, one caveat for this hack: You may get a cup that’s not quite full, or you may be charged a little extra since you ordered without ice. You ARE getting more coffee without the ice in the cup, so this is totally understandable, but we want you to be prepared for this! Joffery’s in Tomorrowland Oh and one more thing! Don’t forget you’re saving that cold brew and mindlessly sip on it! You don’t want an 8PM coffee to keep you up half the night. You’ve got important rope dropping plans in the morning! 22. Disney isn’t just doing battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. ©Disney The company is also in the middle of a proxy battle with an activist investor, Nelson Peltz, who is petitioning to get a seat on The Walt Disney Company’s Board of Directors. Trian Partners recently nominated Peltz to be elected to the Board, but the current board does not endorse him. Well, it seems that some people very close to Walt Disney himself also do not support Peltz and his efforts. Peltz has been very vocal about some of Disney’s decisions, going back to the decision to buy Fox in 2019, calling it “poor corporate governance.” As you may suspect, he opposed Bob Iger’s return to the company as CEO in 2022. Well, a new group has come out in support of Bob Iger as the company’s head — the grandchildren of Walt and Roy Disney. ©New York Times Nelson Peltz of Trian Partners According to The New York Times, the grandchildren of Walt and Roy Disney, who founded the company together in 1923, have come together to publicly oppose Nelson Peltz and his efforts to seat himself on the company’s Board of Directors. All nine grandchildren are publicly in agreement about this, including Abigail E. Disney, who has often criticized the company, most recently about pay inequality. Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Roy P. Disney, 66, grandson of Roy Disney, said, “These activists must be defeated.” He went on to say that they don’t care anything about “preserving the Disney magic” and only want to succeed in “stripping it to the bone to make a quick profit for themselves.” He and Abigail, along with their two other siblings, Susan Disney Lord and Tim Disney, wrote a letter to Disney shareholders, referring to Peltz and other activists as “wolves in sheep’s clothing.” They also wrote about their support of Iger, saying that it’s important that Iger, his management team, and Disney’s board of directors not be “disrupted.” Walt Disney’s grandchildren made similar statements. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters In an email, Iger responded, “I approach every day at Disney with a deep sense of respect for everything Walt and Roy created, and it is incredibly meaningful to have the support of their families. We are committed to protecting their legacy as we chart Disney’s path ahead.” ©Disney Peltz, along with others who are campaigning to get seats on Disney’s board, have criticized the company for its lowering stock prices. However, after Disney reported strong earnings in its Q1 2024 earnings report and call, the company’s stocks rocketed back up. Peltz has often criticized Disney’s streaming profitability, although Iger seems to feel confident that Disney is well on its way to making streaming profitable by the end of the year. 23. There are several new theme parks in the works in the U.S. ©American Heartland We’ve been talking a LOT recently about Universal’s Epic Universe, as well as another experience Universal has planned for Texas. But we also recently told you about a theme park being built right in the middle of the U.S. called American Heartland which is being built by former Disney Imagineers. But the more we think about this new theme park, the more we’re noticing that it’s sounding a lot like, well…a Disney Park. American Heartland will be built across 1,000 acres and will include a theme park, a water park, a large RV park with cabins, a dinner theater, an amphitheater, a swimming pool, a clubhouse, and more. The theme park will span 125 acres of that property, which makes it about the size of Magic Kingdom at Disney World. It’s also expected to open in the fall of 2026. ©American Heartland But this theme park might have even MORE in common with Magic Kingdom, as well as Disneyland than you might think. So we recently got more details about the six lands the park would have. While we were looking over that information, we thought, “Hmmm… this sounds familiar.” For example, one of the lands is Liberty Village, where you will “walk the streets of this charming American town, where friendly shopkeepers are always glad to see you, and hard-working residents welcome you into their bustling daily life.” The description sounds almost identical to Main Street, U.S.A., but we’re getting Liberty Square references, too, both from the name and, well, this — something that looks a LOT like the Liberty Bell is in the concept art. ©American Heartland Big Timber Falls is already sounding a LOT like Frontierland. The description includes things like “a rugged American adventure full of rushing rivers, soaring peaks, and ancient legends.” It also says, “all throughout this bold land, you’ll find bravery, brawn, and inspiration.” This land also includes a log flume ride that could be very similar to what was once Splash Mountain. ©American Heartland Bayou Bay almost feels like an extension of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. It’s described as “a swampy hideaway where you can find mystery, magic (calling Dr. Facilier!), and some of the cutest critters this side of the Mississippi.” As far as food goes, gumbo is mentioned, but there’s also a mention of Zyedeco music and gator-filled waters. Rides will include a Swamp Thrill Ride, a Pirates Stunt show (hello, Pirates of the Caribbean), a Voodoo House, and something called Critter Tales. ©American Heartland Then there’s Electropolis, which immediately gives us Tomorrowland vibes. It’s described as “a bright, bold vision of the American age of innovation.” Even the concept art gives off Tomorrowland vibes. Check out this area called Electro City. ©American Heartland Electropolis also offers a “peak into the future” (yes, we think “peek” was misspelled here on purpose by American Heartland). But that’s literally what Tomorrowland is about, too — it’s a vision of the future. These two visions also have very similar retro-futuristic designs. ©American Heartland The Great Plains land will feature Native American traditions and stories. Although the land will also have a barnstormer attraction and a Charlotte’s Web-inspired experience, the Native American aspect makes us think of an abandoned Disney theme park once known as Disney’s America. Many ideas were thrown out for this theme park that never was, but one idea was an experience based on Native American traditions and stories. However, some of the concept art for the Great Plans is also giving us Living with the Land vibes (okay, it’s the farmhouse). ©American Heartland Imagine if Disney’s Yacht Club Resort were made into a land. It might very well be like American Heartland’s Stony Point Harbor, which is inspired by a typical coastal town. However, this version of a coastal town has a search for a legendary sea monster and a haunted lighthouse. ©American Heartland Now, it makes sense that so many of these ideas seem like things Disney has either done or, at the very least, thought of. This project is being created by former Imagineers, who could not have helped but be influenced by their previous jobs. As they say, “everything old is new again,” so we’ll have to see if American Heartland can create something NEW that could even appeal to avid Disney Parks fans. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 24. Listen, we’ve seen plenty of trends come and go in Disney World. Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle From the rose gold phase to the days when Starbucks tumblers were literally being FOUGHT over in The Emporium, Disney has often been keen to hop on the latest trends. They even change rides and attractions to update them with modern times! But there’s one trend happening in Disney World — and Magic Kingdom in particular — that we’ve got to point out. Do you know what has INVADED Disney World right now? Dad jokes! Jungle Cruise Nope, I’m totally serious here. They’re all over the place! They started out as being confined to the Jungle Cruise attraction, and we were totally okay with that. That ride was MADE for silly humor and witty puns. It’s the whole reason we visit it! Jungle Cruise But after a while, they started expanding outside that perimeter. And now it seems that every Disney Cast Member with a microphone has a joke to tell us. It starts with the tram ride into the parks. Boarding the tram at the Transportation & Ticket Center can be a tedious task, and then the tram announcers insist upon livening the ride up with some jaunty humor. What if we didn’t want our tram ride to be fun, Disney? Huh?! (Okay, well maybe that’s actually a bit of an improvement.) Magic Kingdom tram Then, once you get to the park, you can’t escape it! Right there on Main Street, U.S.A., as if they were waiting for you, are likely to be the Dapper Dans. Their musical performances are littered with bad jokes and dad jokes alike. Jokes like: “How does Ariel wash her fin? With TIDE!” (Alright, maybe that was kind of funny.) The Dapper Dans are ICONIC And if those experiences aren’t enough, I’ve also been cornered by jokesters in other locations as well. I’ve heard puns uttered hurriedly over the Monorail intercom, Disney character jokes shared by the conductor on the Wildlife Express, and of course, a fair share of animal humor has been directed my way while riding on Kilimanjaro Safaris. (But then, who doesn’t love a good animal joke?!) Kilimanjaro Safaris Okay, so maybe I’m not really mad about it at all. Maybe it really does make me laugh and smile more, and maybe it really does improve my trips to the parks by a significant margin. Honestly, Disney Cast Members are the best, and I’m happy to laugh at their jokes (whether they’re good or bad!) over and over again. We love Cast Members! 25. We’re heading to our next Food and Wine food booth for one reason, and one reason ONLY. 2024 booth The 2024 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival has officially begun at Disneyland Resort and there are LOTS of things to do. From now through April 22nd, you can devour some tasty eats and drinks, check out unique entertainment, and more. Next up on the docket, we’re heading over to the Garlic Kissed booth to get a classic dish made with one of our fave flavors. Oh garlic, how we love you! With some new and returning hits, this booth is sure to be a tasty locale. Menu Over at the Garlic Kissed, you won’t find a robust menu. But what you will find is one killer item that Disney’s West Coast chefs have brought back, and we’re hoping it’s as good as last year! 2024 Menu Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself! Eats Returning for the third year, is the Grilled Top Sirloin for $9. We first tried this dish in 2022, and it was a flavor powerhouse! The beef was super tender, and you get a pretty large portion. The potatoes are great, too — they were very creamy and flavorful. You could definitely taste the garlic in them, but there wasn’t so much that it overpowered the other flavors. There are some peppers on top if you’re looking for an extra kick as well! The only part of this that we didn’t love was how quickly the dish gets oily because of that Chimichurri sauce. Grilled Top Sirloin Has Garlic Kissed done it again this year? Could the Grilled Top Sirloin be as good as we remember? This year — not so much. Our meat was overcooked and pretty dry, and we found it to be relatively tasteless. The chimichurri had the flavor we were looking for but it was a bit overpowering. We did enjoy the potatoes, in fact, they were the best part of this dish. If you love super herby things, you might be okay with this but it was too much for us! Grilled Top Sirloin We’ve got one drink to try as well! Drinks For drinks at this booth, you can grab the returning Guava Lychee Mule for $17. It’s made with Vodka, Guava Nectar, Ginger and Lychee Syrups, Lemon Juice, topped with Guava and Grapefruit Hard Cider, and garnished with a Lemon Wheel. Guava Lychee Mule We tried this cocktail last year and thought it was super refreshing — we loved that it wasn’t too sweet and was more on the tart side. We tasted a lot more grapefruit than we did guava or lychee, though. We’d definitely get this one again. OVERALL Make sure you pack your breathmints if you’re heading to this booth! The cocktail here is a solid, not-too-sweet option if you like tropical, fruity beverages. But, for us, the sirloin fell flat this year so we wouldn’t recommend this booth based on that alone. That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from! Click here to see FULL reviews of EVERY. SINGLE. BOOTH. at the Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort!
