There is no shortage of desserts to eat in Disney World! Bananas Foster Sundae in Disney Springs From Dole Whip in many locations around the resort, to festival desserts in EPCOT, to gorgeous cake slices at Gideon’s Bakehouse (yes, sometimes I want a cake slice instead of a cookie), you can find a sweet treat around almost every corner. And then there are the *very fancy* desserts at table service restaurants, like the Grapefruit Cake at Hollywood Brown Derby… Grapefruit Cake at Hollywood Brown Derby The Tiramisu at Trattoria al Forno … Tiramisu at Trattoria al Forno And the “chocolate sphere” dessert at Monsieur Paul. The chocolate sphere at Monsieur Paul But what if I told you the BEST dessert in all of Disney World is hiding in a grab-and-go cooler at a quick service restaurant in EPCOT? Now, I don’t say this lightly. I’ve been eating Disney World food for … well, I’m not willing to tell you how long but let’s just say I’ve been around almost as long as Disney World has, and I’ve eaten a lot of dessert there. ©Disney Yeah, I’ve been going to Disney World almost this long… So imagine my surprise when a friend of mine who is a plant-based eater and I enjoyed a lovely meal on the BoardWalk, and then she insisted we skip dessert and walk over to EPCOT to grab a Cookies ‘n “Cream” Chocolate Mousse Cup. SKIP dessert? Get a pudding cup “snack” instead? But my friend is a foodie and her recommendations are always spot on, so off we went! EPCOT’s The Land Pavilion Now here’s the sad part of the story: We were too late to get the mousse cup that night. Womp, womp. This snack can be a little elusive! It’s found at Sunshine Seasons, which serves breakfast and lunch, but then from 4PM-8PM, this restaurant in The Land Pavilion only offers Grab ‘n Go snacks. Sunshine Seasons But based on her recommendation, you best believe I tried this plant-based “snack” soon after! Cookies ‘n “Cream” Chocolate Mousse Cup As I said, you will find it in the Grab ‘n Go coolers, in fact it’s in the “Health & Wellness” one. And this make me laugh — yes, it’s plant-based, but this is an indulgent snack, and it’s not “healthy” … Health and Wellness may not be the right spot for this decadent dessert. The Cookies ‘n “Cream” Chocolate Mousse cup costs $5.29, and I TOTALLY understand that when you’re craving something rich and chocolatey, you wouldn’t look to a cooler in a fast food place for your go-to. But when I tell you this thing is decadent … well, I don’t use that word lightly. Cookies ‘n “Cream” Chocolate Mousse Cup It has that dark chocolate flavor that feels super indulgent, and the texture is perfect for a mousse — thick, silky, creamy … Some plant-based foods that are creamy have a coconut flavor that sometimes doesn’t “fit,” because coconut oil is often used to provide a creamy texture. But I detect none of that here. Cookies ‘n “Cream” Chocolate Mousse Cup The chocolate cookie crumbs provide some contrast with the creamy texture, and this thing is just all-around good. All-around GREAT, actually. Like close your eyes and inhale deeply when you take a bite great. And yes, I really do think this $5 snack is better than any $15 table service dessert I could get today in Disney World. This dessert was born the way some great Disney World snacks are … it was a festival menu item. It continues to show up at the Flower and Garden Festival sometimes, but this year, it’s not on the menu, so you’ll need to grab it inside Sunshine Seasons. Cookies ‘n Cream Chocolate Mousse Cup at the Flower and Garden Festival in 2023 I met this same friend for dinner last week at a Disney World resort, and she was carrying a bag. She announced that she had been to EPCOT and bought some of the mousse cups to take back to her hotel room. Yes, she gave me one to take home, and if you saw me eating it in my car in the parking lot at Coronado Springs, NO YOU DIDN’T. So, there you have it … my favorite dessert in Disney World is not where you would think or what you would think, but I’m urging you to head over to Sunshine Seasons and try it! If you grew up watching Disney Channel or loved all those late ’90s to mid-2000s Disney movies, like The Parent Trap, The Princess Diaries, and Freaky Friday, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that we’re mostly talking to Millennials, but all are welcome to join the “Nostalgic Disney Lovers” club we just made up. Welcome! Disney Channel fans, this is for YOU! Disney has been catering to Millennials a LOT lately. They created an entire Disney Channel Nite event, with old throwbacks to Kim Possible, Hannah Montana, and even The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. But now, we’ve got another BIG announcement for Disney fans. Wait until you hear what could be coming SOON! Back in the late ’90s and 2000s, there was one MAJOR celebrity who starred in TONS of Disney movies. We have a feeling most Millennial Disney fans can name at LEAST three Lindsay Lohan movies without much hesitation. Well, if Freaky Friday was one of your favorites, listen up. @Disney According to PEOPLE, a Freaky Friday sequel could be happening. In fact, Lindsay Lohan revealed she is “excited” to work with Jamie Lee Curtis, adding that a sequel is “in the process.” Variety first reported that Elyse Hollander was writing a script for a Freaky Friday sequel. Lohan did not share any specific details on the script, cast, or timeline, but we’ll keep our eyes out for updates. ©Disney Based on the first Freaky Friday film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, it’s clear these two actresses have FANTASTIC onscreen chemistry. When talking about her former costar, Lohan even revealed, “…we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this.” Will this new movie show us what life is like for Tess and Anna now that they’re older? Who knows — maybe Anna is even a mother at this point! We’ll have to wait and see. ©Disney In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. Flying is great and all, but is it just me or has it become even more stressful? Southwest Airlines And I’m not just talking about the stress of choosing the right airline and booking the tickets at the best price. No, I’m talking about other situations you might’ve heard about in the news recently…situations that will have your skin crawling. One of the most recent stories unfolding in the headlines has us wondering if we’ll ever fly again. Let’s talk about it. Remember the “good ol’ days” when turbulence was the worst thing we faced on flights? In the latest episode of “What Could Possibly Go Wrong on a Plane?” (that’s a new series we just made up lol), a recent story reported by Fox News shared that travelers were in for a hair-raising surprise when an unexpected stowaway decided to join them mid-flight. Kudos to you if you guessed it. Yes, it was a rat! ©Getty Images As we said, a rat was spotted onboard an Airbus A330-300 during a flight from Lahore, Pakistan, to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Thursday, Feb. 22nd. Doesn’t it seem like the universe has a twisted sense of humor when it comes to testing the nerves of frequent flyers? First, we had snakes. Then, we had maggots. Now, we have RATS! Is it just us or has air travel become an unpredictable rollercoaster of surprises? Plane Cabin But a rat on a plane? That’s a whole new level of airborne “adventure” that even the most seasoned travelers couldn’t have seen coming. As passengers settled into their seats and prepared for a routine flight, little did they know that they’d soon be sharing the cabin with an unexpected furry friend. Plane cabin While the rat was eventually dealt with, the incident left many feeling like frequent fliers trapped in a real-life nightmare. Also, this has us raising serious hygiene concerns. This isn’t just about the “ick” factor, though. It’s about the potential health risks lurking in the friendly skies. We understand unexpected situations happen, but airlines need to prioritize hygiene and safety like never before. Flying can be stressful! As we think about wild tales like this, it’s clear that air travel will continue to surprise us in ways we never imagined. So buckle up, and brace yourselves for the next chapter in the unpredictable adventures of flying. Keep it right here for all the latest travel updates and horror stories, so stay tuned to DFB! Going to meet Mickey Mouse is a must-do for so many Disney World visitors! Hi there, MICKEY! I mean, after all, he’s the boss, the big guy, the head CHEESE. So you think he’d make a whole lot of cheddar for his important work at the parks, wouldn’t ya? A recent report revealed how much Mickey Mouse actually makes at Disney World, and, well … we were surprised! That’s right, we’re bring you a peek into the world of character performer salaries in Disney World! Viva Navidad! We recently stumbled upon a fact that left us more surprised than Donald Duck losing his temper. It turns out that Mickey’s salary at Disney World isn’t as extravagant as you might expect. Mickey! According to the Orange County Register, character performers who are in the Actors Equity Union in Disney World make a base pay of $17.75 per hour. Depending on where they are working — for example, a performer in a show earns more than one doing meet and greets — they may also get a “premium” of up to $3.25 per hour. Mickey at the Disneyland Train Station! Now, minimum wage in Florida is currently $12 per hour, and it’s going up to $13 per hour in September 2024. So, Mickey is making well above minimum wage. But he’s also making less than the average hourly wage in the Orlando area, $25.89 in May 2022, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (those are the most recent numbers released). Hey, Mickey! Sometimes we think that the star of the show commands a ton of moolah, but often that’s not the case (celebrities, they’re just like us … amirite?). Mickey! One year ago, the six service trades council unions that represent Disney World Cast Members got a new contract that raised the starting wage at Disney World to $18 per hour. The union that represents character workers is not a part of the Service Trades Council, so yes, that does mean that Mickey Mouse is making less than most Disney World employees. (He’s a selfless kinda guy, you know?) So, there you have it! If you’ve ever wondered how much Mickey Mouse makes, we’ve got your answer! Stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney updates and news! If you’re a longtime DFB reader, there’s a good chance you’ve heard us harp on the importance of the My Disney Experience app, and at this point, you’re probably like “WE GET IT!” At the same time, though, you’re probably also a Disney World vacation PRO, which means you know exactly how difficult it’d be to do Disney World without the help of the app. (We tried that once for science, and it did not end well. ) ©Shutterstock It’s a super handy tool for some and a necessary evil for others, but no matter how you feel about it, you need to know about this huge CHANGE that just hit the app! When we signed on to check on the Disney World app this morning, we noticed that things were looking a little different! The home screen still looks the same… ©Disney …but once you click over to your profile (the three stacked horizontal lines in the bottom menu), you’ll see some big changes. Previously, there were lots of these tiles, with options to see your tip board, Genie+ reservations, dining reservations, and more. Here’s what it looked like BEFORE: My Disney Genie Day And here’s what it looks like NOW: ©Disney Disney has seriously condensed this options menu, with just six tiles where before there were over a dozen. Many of the options that were previously in that tile menu have moved down to a few different lists. One of the lists is “My Visit,” which has your hotel reservations, virtual queue information, and other essentials for your trip. “Disney PhotoPass” has all things photos… ©Disney …“Getting Around” includes options related to transportation, and “Plan Your Next Visit” has tickets and passes, Park Pass Reservation information, and Park Hours and Info. ©Disney The next list is “Disney Account,” with info about our profile, linking to other accounts, MagicMobile, and MagicBands. Finally, “Help & Feedback” is where you’ll find FAQs, Cast Compliments, Health Services, and Privacy & Legal info. ©Disney To get to your Tip Board, you can click the “Rides, Shows, and Lightning Lane Entry” tile, and it’ll bring up the normal tip board that you’re used to. ©Disney Mobile Order is still under “Order Food,” and online merchandise checkout can be found in the “Merchandise Checkout” tile. Another change is that you can now get to the Genie+ information and your Tip Board by clicking the little “+” button at the bottom of your screen (it’s the middle option in that bottom menu) and choosing “View My Genie Day and Tip Board.” ©Disney This isn’t the only change that Disney has been working on when it comes to the My Disney Experience app. They also just announced a major update for the dining reservation section of the app! Making dining reservations in the Disney Parks has become much easier in recent years. Making dining reservations is now EASIER! In August 2023, both the websites and apps for Disney World and Disneyland were updated to make searching for reservations more convenient for folks planning trips. These apps can be a vital part of planning your trip and keeping you going once you’re actually in the parks, and now, Disney will be rolling out another change that should make planning even simpler! GREAT NEWS! Making Disney World and Disneyland dining reservations is about to be a whole lot easier thanks to new updates coming to both park websites and in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps! Disney shared that these changes are being rolled out after listening to guest feedback. ©Shutterstock Here’s what you need to know! Soon, you’ll be able to view dining availability for multiple days at a time (right now, you can only view one day at a time!) With one search, you can see available dining reservations for any given restaurant — up to 10 days at a time. This will give you more flexibility when it comes to planning meals during your trip. ©Disney In addition to this change, Disney also recently implemented being able to view all available reservations by hour on each individual day, so you can see all your options for the day instead of just a small window of time. And, Mobile Order has become a breeze thanks to the new sorting features which show nearby locations and even those with the earliest available pickup times! Try mobile order Disney hasn’t shared when these changes will officially be launched, only that it will be some time “soon.” We’ll be on the lookout for any updates! In January, Disneyland opened the long-awaited Pixar Place Hotel, and it was everything our Pixar movie dreams were made of. The Sketch Pad Cafe One of the newest offerings at this hotel is the Sketch Pad Café, which serves up lots of different coffee drinks and pastries throughout the morning for you to enjoy. While this place was originally only open until around 11AM each day, now we have GOOD news! Disney has now announced that The Sketch Pad Café will be open until 5PM each day! This means that from 6AM to 5PM, you can wander into the quick service restaurant/lounge, sit down, and enjoy some coffee before you continue with your day. ©Disney Disney also revealed that you can check out some new food and beverage offerings as well! What exactly? Well, their menu online doesn’t say much, only lists the assorted coffees they can do and mentions they have “Assorted Sweets” and “Breakfast Pastries” available, so you’ll have to stop in and see what they have (and then let us know!). Pizza Bagel We love the theming at this restaurant, but we want to warn you that while the food is solid (nothing mindblowing, but you won’t be disappointed), it’s pretty overpriced. Alarm Clock As much as I’d love to be a “wake up early and seize the day” kind of person, I’m definitely more of a “snooze my alarm four times and finally roll out of bed when I’m seriously late to whatever I have going on” kind of person. Trust us. Even if you’re not a big coffee drinker, caffeine is a NECESSITY in Disney World. When you’re waking up early to get those Genie+ reservations, staying out late to watch the fireworks, and running around the parks all day, your energy is sure to be DRAINED by the end of your vacation. Joffrey’s is POPULAR! That’s why Disney has strategically placed both Starbucks AND Joffrey’s Coffee locations all around the parks and resorts. No matter where you go, there’s probably a place to grab some caffeine nearby. Now, that’s just smart marketing! Oh, and speaking of smart business decisions that also benefit US, let’s talk about the exclusive NEW Annual Passholder drink available now! EPCOT has an Annual Passholder-exclusive Blueberry Pie Latte available NOW! It’s $6.49 and comes with blueberry syrup with white chocolate, three shots of espresso, whipped cream, and graham cracker crumbles. Three shots of espresso? We’re IN! Don’t forget, you need to be an Annual Passholder to get ahold of this drink, so make sure you have proof of your membership handy. NEW drink alert! We had high hopes for this one, but ultimately, there was not a ton of blueberry flavor here. It really just tasted like a sweet, generic latte. We didn’t really taste the white chocolate, either — if anything, we got a faint chocolatey flavor. Was this the best latte we’ve ever had? Probably not. But it wasn’t bad! If you typically enjoy Joffrey’s sweet lattes and seasonal beverages, you’ll probably like this one, too. Just don’t go expecting a liquified blueberry pie, OK? Blueberry Pie Latte We spotted this drink at multiple Joffrey’s locations around EPCOT, including the Joffrey’s by the Mexico Pavilion and the location by the Canada Pavilion. It’s a simple little drink, but we liked it! When you need a hit of sugar, Joffrey’s is the place to go. Make sure to check the My Disney Experience app for a full list of locations — there are a lot of Joffrey’s stands in EPCOT, so you have plenty of options! Frontier Airlines is ending flights from Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania to Orlando, according to WGAL. Frontier Plane at the Orlando Airport A “network strategy shift” is likely one of the main reasons why, and Frontier will also end flights to Orlando from seven other cities later this summer, so more spots could be on the chopping block. ©Frontier Airlines The last Frontier flight from Harrisburg to Orlando will be on May 13th. For a lot of folks, booking flights is one of the most DREADED aspects of planning a vacation. Flying can be stressful! It’s expensive, can be confusing, and that’s only the beginning. It doesn’t include the drive to the airport, checking your bags, making it through security, and then finally boarding the plane. Oh, and then there are always delays and cancellations that you have to consider. Yikes. Well, one airline is making it EASIER to fly with them. Here’s how! American Airlines shared that they have placed an order for TONS of new aircraft! American Airlines Plane The order includes 260 NEW aircraft with 85 Airbus A321neo, 85 Boeing 737 MAX 10, and 90 Embraer E175 aircraft. American has also upgraded 30 of their existing 737 MAX 8 orders to 737 MAX 10 aircraft. ©American Airlines While this expansion is meant to support growth of the airline overall, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom says that it can also expand premium seating. American Airlines “These orders will continue to fuel our fleet with newer, more efficient aircraft so we can continue to deliver the best network and record-setting operational reliability for our customers,” Isom said. So, it could get easier to snag better seating. Which could make it much easier to travel since it’ll be newer and comfier. ©American Airlines With spring break travel crowds quickly approaching, it’s important to be on your airport A-GAME! There are few things we love as much as we love Disney, but Target might be a close second. Target Where else can you shop for groceries, home goods, electronics, and whatever else you probably don’t need? Okay, probably multiple places, but Target is just top-notch. And, if you love Target anywhere nearly as much as we do — you might want to buckle in because we’ve got a major update! A while back, we heard musings that a potential Target membership program was on the way, and to say we were excited was an understatement. Well, now it’s official — Target is launching a new, paid membership program. Target Circle 360 will be rolling out in early April! Target Taking a queue out of Amazon’s and Walmart’s playbooks, the subscription-based program will cost $99 per year, though a discounted $49 rate will be part of the promotional launch through May 18th. Target credit card holders will also receive discounted rates, though those have not been announced just yet. The program will include unlimited free same-day delivery for orders over $35 in as little as one hour — with no delivery fees. There will also be free two-day shipping and other perks. Circle week Target is also relaunching the free Target Circle loyalty program, becoming easier to use with more personalization. Instead of having to scan or add deals to your Circle account, they will automatically be applied at checkout. We don’t know about you, but this new Target membership is going to be incredibly convenient and probably dangerous for our wallets. ©Target For the latest shopping news and more, stay tuned to DFB! 5 Things That Are Totally Normal to Disney Adults and Incredibly Weird to Everyone Else Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Disney is holding out hope that shareholders will vote in their favor at the upcoming annual meeting. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters The Walt Disney Company is in the middle of a proxy battle with activist investor, Nelson Peltz, who is petitioning to get a seat on the Company’s Board of Directors. Disney and CEO Bob Iger have urged stock owners to vote against Peltz using the help of cartoon allies and Walt Disney’s grandchildren. But, it’s the shareholders who could end up being the winners in this battle. Disney shareholders could cash in on the proxy battle, according to Business Insider. Amid the chaos, investors are being enticed by online auctions in which they can sell their proxy votes. The marketplace is called the Shareholder Vote Exchange and one bidder on the site is offering as much as $100,000 for 500,000 proxy votes, which amounts to $0.20 per vote. Walt Disney Company Headquarters ©LA Times Individual investors own more than one-third of Disney’s 1.8 billion shares, more than the typical company. Cofounder and chief operating officer of Shareholder Vote Exchange, Steven Xu, confirmed the bid was from a current shareholder. Trian and Blackwells have not responded to requests on whether or not one of them is the bidder in question. ©Getty Images Despite being on shaky ethical ground, buying shareholder votes is legal. This marketplace, in particular, advertises itself as being a way for “regular” investors to generate income by monetizing shareholder votes. Ultimately, though, there’s no guarantee that the marketplace will have an impact on the Disney board vote. ©Trian Partners Disney has previously stated that “the Board does NOT endorse the nominations of Nelson Peltz and James Rasulo put forth by Trian Fund Management, L.P. and its affiliates, led by Nelson Peltz and supported by former Disney executive Isaac Perlmutter (collectively, the “Trian Group”).” The notice went on to say, “The Board recommends that shareholders do not vote for the Trian Group nominees and that they reject a related proposal from the Trian Group to amend the Company Bylaws.” Disney also made it clear that the Board “does not endorse the nominations of Craig Hatkoff, Jessica Schell and Leah Solivan put forth for election as directors by Blackwells Onshore I LLC, Blackwells Capital LLC and Jason Aintabi (collectively, the “Blackwells Group”).” ©Disney We’ll have to wait and see what will end up happening at the annual shareholders meeting on April 3rd, but in the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news.
