  2. Recently, a long-awaited change took place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Hey Woody! You may have noticed that while some character meet-and-greets have gone back to normal (close interactions) after the 2020 park closures, other characters have remained behind dividers of some kind in “character sightings.” This is where you’d see Chip and Dale having a picnic in Hollywood Studios, or watch Pooh with his butterfly net in EPCOT. Just this month, a popular meet and greet FINALLY returned in Hollywood Studios, but fans are pretty divided on it. For years, we’ve been seeing Chip and Dale have a picnic together in Hollywood Studios, instead of a normal meet and greet. We love watching them have fun and get up to their normal shenanigans, but now, they’re back to a regular meet and greet in the park! Chip and Dale meeting in DHS! While we’re so excited we can hug them again, a part of us misses seeing them in their “natural habitat,” for lack of a better term. We asked our readers on Facebook what they prefer, and we were surprised to find many of you feel how we do — conflicted! Donald and Daisy! Most of our readers were divided and wanted one or the other. But as it turns out, there were several who said they would love to hug Chip and Dale AND see them frolic around while they get ready for a picnic! Many of our readers pointed out that with how much a park ticket costs, you should be able to experience both. Hi, Tinkerbell! One reader shared that one of her favorite Disney photos she has is of her grandson walking in Hollywood Studios with a Stitch hat on. And guess what? Stitch was just 10 feet away, walking towards them! She described the experiences as “spontaneous and heartwarming.” Stitch roaming in Magic Kingdom And that’s ultimately what a lot of you said — that while you love getting to hug characters and have a conversation with them, you also love to see them roaming around and getting to have those unexpected and exciting interactions that often end up in very sweet, natural photos. Some of our readers shared with us that they aren’t big fans of the photos you take during the actual meet and greets, because they often look/feel more stiff and practiced. Pluto out roaming! Disneyland is a bit more well-versed in the roaming character world, and Disney World used to have its fair share of roaming characters years ago too, but that’s decreased in recent years. So Disney, if you’re listening, here’s what we all want — BOTH! We’d love to be able to meet characters in a traditional setting but also get to see them roaming around, having fun, and allowing us those spontaneous moments. Check out what super cheap souvenir became a massive meet-and-greet trend! We love them We ask our readers on social media all the time about current Disney problems, situations, and solutions! 3. Disney World is full of fun secrets and surprises! Cinderella Castle For example, we were recently just selected to pick the Director’s Hat of The Day over in Magic Kingdom! There is magic all around in the parks and sometimes you might not even realize that rides and restaurants have hidden details and secret backstories! Only at Disney World could eating get even more magical and interesting! Some restaurants are more than just a place to eat at and have hidden lore behind them! Here are five restaurants that have hidden secrets in Disney World! Space 220 Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar In Disney Springs you will find Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar. This bar, if you cannot tell from the name, is designed after an airplane hangar. Who is Jock Lindsey? He is a seaplane pilot in the Indiana Jones film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar So how did he get his own bar inside of Disney Springs? He was on his way searching for the Fountain of Youth and thought it would be the perfect place to set up shop. Did you know that there is even a special Fountain of Youth drink you can order? Fountain of Youth Throughout the bar, you can find pieces of memorabilia from adventures that Jock went on throughout his career. If you sit at the bar you might notice some oil stains. Those are from Jock working on various projects, you might even spot his handprint! Look closely at the bar! If you check in the back corner of the bar you might spot something shiny! If you look closely it is the Fertility Idol that Indy was looking for in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Golden Fertility Idol If you have dined outside you might have noticed a boat that looks a whole lot like a boat on the Jungle Cruise. This boat is named Reggie. Why? It is a nod to Jock’s pet reptile, Reggie. We know how Indy feels about certain reptiles! Reggie Boat Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto Speaking of bars, let’s head over to a very popular bar over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! Here you can find Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. This bar is PACKED with fun and hidden secrets! Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto Did you know that the skippers at Trader Sam’s are cousins to the Jungle Cruise Skippers over at Magic Kingdom? It makes sense since they work at Trader Sam’s bar, and he has his own gift shop at the end of the Jungle Cruise. We will be honest, they’re not actually related, it is just all part of the storytelling! The Cast Members here WILL entertain you. Inside Trader Sam’s you can find a repurposed animatronic! On the back wall, there is Uh-Oa. She comes to life at certain times throughout the night, but she was not always inside of this bar! Her first home was inside of the Magic Kingdom in Adventureland! You used to be able to see her at the Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management). Uh-Oa! This attraction is now defunct and runs as the normal Enchanted Tiki Room show. We are glad she was able to find a new home over at the Polynesian Village! Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto details Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen We are seeing an adventurous pattern here! In Adventureland, you can dine at Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen. This restaurant is also filled with lore. Have you heard of S.E.A.? Because we want to become members ASAP! There are three main dining rooms inside of Skipper Canteen, they are the Crew Mess Hall, the Falls Family Parlor, and a once-hidden meeting room for the S.E.A. Skipper Canteen To get to the S.E.A. meeting dining room, you must go through a hallway from the Mess Hall. You may notice some bookshelves while you are passing through. This bookshelf actually used to hide the meeting room back when S.E.A. was using it. Jungle Skipper Canteen Bookshelves If you look closely, you may spot some interesting book titles. Most of the books found on these shelves have a Disney nod to them, because why wouldn’t they? There are so many books to go through, so we will share our favorite one with you! You may notice that one book looks a little out of place, and that book is The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. We can only assume that this is the book that members of S.E.A. would use to pull down and gain entry into their private meeting room! Notice a certain book sticking out? If You Want to Learn More About These Books, Click Here! Pizza al Taglio When you are traveling the world in EPCOT, you might want to try some authentic Italian pizza over in the Italy Pavilion! Getting a slice is even easier when you order at Pizza al Taglio! Pizza al Taglio Pizza al Taglio is right next to Via Napoli. Here you can get delicious slices of pizza without needing a table service reservation, you can simply just stop at the pizza pick-up window. While you are in the World Showcase, you might be able to show off your Italian skills by translating what “Pizza al Taglio” means to your party! Pizza! The meaning of Pizza al Taglio is quite literal! It translates to “pizza by the slice.” You can tell that this is a very clever name since this pizza window literally sells pizza by the slice! Pizza al Taglio So the next time you are in EPCOT make sure to lay a little knowledge on your party! Space 220 You can dine in SPACE in Disney World! That’s right, over in EPCOT you can take a trip up to Space and dine at Space 220. The dining room has picturesque views of space. You can catch different scenes playing out while you eat. Space 220 in EPCOT There is one scene that has a special Star Wars nod. Sometimes the astronauts will pull out their Lightsabers and have a Lightsaber battle in space. It makes sense that astronauts love Star Wars! What are they fighting over?! There is also a rare scene that only takes place at the windows at the end. There is a Space Dog! If you want a chance to see this good dog in its space suit then request a table towards the end of the dining room! Space 220 Dining Room We always love finding hidden details and secrets inside Disney World restaurants! You can dine over and over again and still find new details! But how do you go about connecting all these accounts? Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through it! Here’s how to contact them: Go to the Disney+ Help Center Contact Us Page Select The Disney Bundle Scroll down and choose whichever way you’d like to speak with an assistant (virtual assistant, virtual chat with an agent, or call) ©Disney The Disney Bundle Pricing for Hulu and Disney+ is $9.99 a month for the Basic Duo (with ads) or $19.99 a month for Duo Premium (no ads and you can download your favorite shows and movies). 6. There are a lot of reasons so many of us choose Southwest Airlines time and again when we fly to Disney World (or anywhere else). Southwest Airlines at the Orlando Airport It’s about the only airline left that doesn’t charge for checked bags (up to two). The airline also often offers some great discounts. We also love that the airline has an amazing cancellation policy. But lately, well, let’s just say Southwest Airlines seems to be struggling. Southwest recently revealed new seats that will be on their planes as of 2025. And let’s just say, the Internet had a FIELD day with its feedback on those new seats, saying they looked uncomfortable and had little legroom and back support. There were also a lot of jokes made at Southwest’s expense. ©Southwest Well, Southwest has recently responded to the Internet’s outrage. According to ABC News, a Southwest representative pointed out that the original seat images were “2D renderings to show the cosmetic look of the seats and were not scalable for illustrating seat comfort.” Additional 3D images were reportedly released that showed more padding. The airline also got a little salty, and said, “But rest assured, we have our customers’ back — even when they give us flak.” Southwest airplane But that’s not all. On March 9th, thunderstorms in the Southeast U.S. completely disrupted many Southwest flights, resulting in over 200 delays at the Orlando International Airport alone — at the beginning of the HUGE Spring Break travel season. At one point, over HALF of Southwest flights were delayed going into and out of Orlando. ©FlightAware That seems to have continued throughout the busy weekend. As of March 10th, Southwest has almost 200 delayed flights with 56 percent of its flights into and out of Orlando International Airport delayed. Also, 34 Southwest flights have been canceled at the Orlando International Airport. Although other airlines also have SOME delayed flights, Southwest seems to be struggling the most. ©FlightAware It gets worse, though. Because Southwest is struggling all over the U.S. The airline currently has over 1,000 delays at every airport it flies to. OUCH. ©FlightAware So we have to ask: are you okay, Southwest Airlines? We certainly don’t want a repeat of the multiple cancellations that happened to Southwest flights during the 2022 holiday season that went on for DAYS. But seeing these delays continue for several days does make us worry. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 7. There are changes coming to Disney World! Cinderella Castle We’re here to make sure that you’ve got all the information you need to help you with planning your Disney World trip. This particular weekend has some changes that are coming for a specific RANDOM reason, and you have to know about it. Let’s talk about it! “So what’s the deal?”, I hear you asking. Well,Daylight Savings Time (you know that spring-forward or fall-back time change that happens twice a year), means we’ll be getting an extra hour of that Florida sunshine and coming right along with that extra hour are some changes at a couple of the Disney World parks. Animal Kingdom The first place where you will notice a change is over at Kilimanjaro Safaris in Animal Kingdom. The hours for this ride will change on March 10th. We checked on the Disney World website and saw that the ride closes at 5:45PM on March 9th and then closes later, at 6:45PM on March 10th. Zebra! This ride typically closes early to accommodate the animals, but now you’ll have an extra hour to enjoy it! Kilimanjaro Safaris Next, let’s head over to Magic Kingdom. Happily Ever After (the fireworks show at Cinderella Castle) will begin at a different time. The show has been starting right at 8PM. But beginning March 10th, it will start at 8:30PM. We LOVE Happily Ever After! As always, you’re going to want to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app when planning your trip to Disney World. 8. Okay, so Disney World has put some…well…interesting souvenirs out there into the world. At one point, you could buy candy shaped like animal poop at Animal Kingdom. We also once saw a dinosaur lightsaber (strange, but also kinda’ cool!). Then, there was Spaghetti Stitch (who still haunts our nightmares). We recently took a stroll through EPCOT and were just minding our own business when we came across some…rather interesting…breath mints. Okay, so these things have probably existed for a while, but this is a first for us. Did you know you could buy soda-flavored Tic Tacs? Yep, we found Coca-Cola and Sprite Tic Tacs. You know, like the breath mints? So imagine those soda flavors combined with the Tic Tac minty flavor. Coca-Cola and Sprite Tic Tacs The Coca-Cola Tic Tacs are made with Coca-Cola and the Sprite Tic Tacs are lemon-lime flavored. So yeah, that’s a strange combination of flavors for mints, but here we are. They’re also in pretty big containers, so buying one of these is a bit of a commitment. Obviously, if you know anything about Disney World, you might have guessed where we found these. They were at Club Cool in EPCOT, where you can also taste soda flavors from around the world. Club Cool soda flavors So if you’re looking for a super unique souvenir, these certainly qualify. Maybe you can pick these up after you trick someone into trying Beverly for the first time (not that anyone has EVER done that, right? ). Stay tuned to DFB for more! Hold up for a sec! 9. Forget the rides, the shows, and the nighttime fireworks. One of our favorite things to do in Disney World is meet characters! Tree of Life We love getting Mickey hugs (is there anything better for a boost of serotonin?), and we love meeting characters in the parks and at character dining experiences. We know you do, too, so we have to tell you about two characters who have RETURNED for meet-and-greets in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We were visiting Animal Kingdom recently and we ran into our favorite Junior Wilderness Explorer, Russell from Up. You can meet him again! He’s too sweet, right? You can find Russell on Discovery Island at the Wilderness Explorers Club House (OF COURSE!). It’s Russell! But Russell isn’t the ONLY Up character who has returned to meet guests at Animal Kingdom. Our favorite talking dog, Dug, is also meeting guests in that same location. Now, we didn’t get a chance to see Dug, but you can find out what time he and Russell meet guests on the My Disney Experience app. ©Disney To find characters, along with their meeting times and locations, on the My Disney Experience app, you’ll want to click on the location icon at the very bottom of the screen (next to the Home icon). Choose “Characters” from the dropdown at the top and you’ll see a map of where all the characters meet. You can click on “Show List” to get a complete list. You can also use the “Filter” feature to choose which park you’re looking at. ©Disney If you have a character you REALLY want to see, be sure to prioritize those meetings because characters only stay out for so long and you could miss them if you wait! 10. The words “disturbing” and “the Disney Parks” are hardly ever used together in the same sentence — but we’re here to change that! Ominous sky over Magic Kingdom The Disney Parks usually provide plenty of wonderfully joyful memories, but that doesn’t mean they’re all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, when you consider the Parks’ history and behind-the-scenes happenings, you’d be forgiven if your mind starts to wander. Sometimes, those thoughts can lead to disturbing realizations. The Disney Parks are full of strange and sometimes melancholy facts that can mess with your brain when you think about them for too long. So don’t say we didn’t warn you before you read our list of 16 things that have happened, constantly happen, and could happen at the Disney Parks that are actually disturbing when you sit back and think about them! Ignorance is often bliss, so read ahead at your own peril! Not scared off yet? Good — let’s get into it! 1. The “it’s a small world” Animatronics NEVER Turn Off “it’s a small world” While we can’t personally verify this, there are some substantial and some seemingly valid arguments that the “it’s a small world” dolls at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom never turn off. While we don’t recommend ever testing out this theory, we can imagine experiencing the clicking of the dolls in the early hours of the morning would be something straight out of a horror film! 2. Disney Uses Cats to Kill the REAL Mickey Mouse Disneyland feral cat Sure, they’re beloved by the locals, especially at Disneyland where seeing a Disneyland cat is a badge of honor. And sure they’re adorable little guys. But the irony is not lost on us that these cute little killing machines are essentially hunting Mickey Mouse and his mouse family. It gets even worse when you realize that the Disney Parks openly allow these cats to roam the grounds because rodent infestation is an actual possibility without them. We salute you for your service Disney cats! 3. People Spread Ashes on Attractions Haunted Mansion Disturbingly, the rumors that guests sometimes ILLEGALLY spread ashes on Disney rides are 100% true. In fact, Cast Members refer to the action as a Code A. The ashes can be spotted under a black light fairly easily and, if found, the ride is shut down until it is cleaned up and deemed not a biohazard. This disturbing occurrence happens on several rides at both Disneyland and Disney World, most notably on both Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. 4. Disney Apps Track You ©Disney Whether you’re using the My Disney Experience app or the Disneyland Mobile App, Disney is tracking your precise location and collecting your data to learn more about you. Sure, you agree to this and Disney doesn’t go out of its way to hide this fact, but that doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable for some. 5. Mission Space Has 18 Different Warning Signs Mission SPACE Green Side, Orange Side, it doesn’t matter. Mission: Space at EPCOT is NOTORIOUS for causing nausea, headaches, vertigo, and overall anxiety. Should a ride that requires 18 WARNINGS really exist? These are the questions we need to be asking! 6. Fatalities on Disney Rides Big Thunder Mountain This is seriously not a fun one to think about, so we won’t hold it against you if you want to skip ahead. With that said, there have been several attraction-related fatalities at the Disney Parks. Rides and attractions that have claimed lives either through Disney’s fault or the guests’ include Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, Rivers of America, the Disneyland Monorail, America Sings / Carousel of Progress, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Matterhorn Bobsleds, the PeopleMover, and Sailing Ship Columbia at Disneyland. Ride-related deaths at Disney World include the attractions Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney World Monorail, Primeval Whirl, Splash Mountain, and the Magic Kingdom Skyway. 7. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror’s Caesar May Haunt You Casear the Dummy Based on the The Twilight Zone episode “Caesar and Me”, Caesar the ventriloquist dummy can be spotted before you exit The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. It’s become a Cast Member tradition to acknowledge the dummy to help prevent any mischief, so we recommend being nice to the doll…just in case. 8. Pirates of the Caribbean Ghosts Pirates of the Caribbean Legend has it that the ghost of a young boy haunts Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean while the friendly ghost of a Disney Imagineer who died in the 1970s named George haunts the Magic Kingdom’s version. Spooky. 9. Codes U, V, and H Baby Care Center and First Aid sign at EPCOT If you’re at the Disney parks and hear a Cast Member mention Code U, V, or H, they’re talking about urine, vomit, or poop, respectively. Yes, these bodily emergencies do happen daily at the Disney Parks, unfortunately. 10. The Germs! Love that these are around the parks! Take advantage of the Disney Parks’ hand sanitizer stations because germs can be found everywhere. From people bringing illnesses to kids licking random things, germs spread fast, and whether or not you get sick doesn’t negate how disturbing this is. 11. River Country is Still a Thing Disney’s River Country ©Disney Disney’s River Country was Disney’s first water park and it was open from 1976 until 2001. While some work has occurred to tear it down, it largely still remains as a ghost park, deteriorating over time as it rots with long-forgotten memories. 12. A Wild Bear Can Just Show Up and Take Over Disney World ©Fox In September 2023, a wild bear actually wandered into Magic Kingdom, reminding us that Disney World is surrounded by real wildlife and not just the Country Bear Jamboree (more on the wildlife later). The 150-pound black bear fortunately was safely captured and released back into the wild. 13. Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Ends in the “Bad Place” Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland mostly fits the mold of a classic children’s dark ride. That is, until the climax where the riders “die”, are judged, and end the ride in a heated room meant to represent the “Bad Place”. That’s pretty dark for a Disney ride — but also a little hilarious. 14. The Disney Parks Are Expensive Art of Animation treasure chest There’s no subtlety in this — Disney trips are expensive, and when you take a break from the fun and you’re having to think about all the money you’ve spent…well…saying you’re disturbed will likely be an understatement. 15. The Beatles Broke Up at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Disney’s Polynesian Village The Beatles actually broke up at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, when John Lennon made it official on December 29th, 1974. We’ll never look at the resort the same way. 16. You May See Alligators at Disney World That Aren’t Part of an Attraction Animal Kingdom Gators We’re not talking about Disney’s Animal Kingdom alligators or the Jungle Cruise animatronics. There is a real reason you’re not allowed to swim in the water surrounding Disney World. While hundreds of gators have been relocated over the years, Disney World is still home to swampland and many alligators, so you should be cautious when around lakes and lagoons on-property. There you have it! The Disney Parks can be kind of disturbing but they’re so much fun and mostly a good time so the feeling usually fades fast. 11. Southwest has been in the news a lot recently, and here they are again. Southwest airplane Most recently, they’re the victim of over 500 airline delays due to thunderstorms, have been told they need to pay a $140 million fine for their massive 2022 shutdown, and revealed their new seat design last month while the internet tore them to shreds. Now, the airline is majorly cracking down on carry-on bags. No, they’re not limiting the size of your carry-on, instead, the airline is cracking down on the number of bags you have. Southwest Cabin According to The Wall Street Journal, when recently flying, gate agents were rattling off what counts as a personal item — Fanny packs, Cross-body bags, shopping bags, (yes, even ones you got in the airport), pillows, and blankets (!!!). If you have any one of these, that counts as your personal item, which means your ACTUAL personal item is now your carry-on, and your carry-on now has to be checked. ©Southwest This change began on February 22nd to get ahead of spring and summer travel. Often, airlines will offer to check your bag at the gate for free, but this still throws a massive wrench in the plan for many travelers. If you bought something at the airport and it won’t fit in your bag? Well, too bad. ©Southwest Southwest often boasts its two-free checked bag rule, so while the majority of passengers may just be annoyed at the change, it won’t cost them extra. This may majorly affect those traveling with several bags which may cost them more than what they budgeted for. Southwest Airplane If you’re traveling with Southwest soon, keep this new rule in mind and make sure you can fit your fanny pack/small purse/crossbody bag into your larger backpack, or else you may have to check your suitcase at the gate. We do our best to keep you updated on all the latest travel news, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB. 12. We love to dine at Disney World! Toledo — Tapas, Steak and Seafood As you know we always say “Food IS a Theme Park.” Disney is known to have some fun and tasty food options that you could spend a whole day snacking and eating around the park. There is one time that we always regret eating at, and we are here to warn you about it! Lines get long everywhere during common mealtime periods. Have you ever tried going through a drive-thru at noon? Well, the same thing goes for Disney parks! It gets CROWDED at lunchtime! Lunchtime lines are no joke, and you do not want to have to wait in them! We know you need to eat lunch, so here are some tips for eating lunch at Disney World! Lunch Crowds Mobile Order Mobile Ordering is a lifesaver in the parks. Certain restaurants around the resort and in the parks offer Mobile Ordering. When we see that Mobile Order is offered we go for it! If you do not know if a restaurant offers Mobile Order you can check the My Disney Experience app. Sometimes Cast Members will even encourage you to Mobile Order when you get to your desired dining location. Mobile Order Sign So what exactly is Mobile Order? Mobile Order is a tool within the My Disney Experience app. You can choose a pick-up time for your order. We recommend scheduling your pick-ups when you start your day. This is for a few reasons, the first being it can take the stress out of your day and allow you to have peace of mind knowing that your food is already ordered. Mobile Order window The second reason is that Mobile Order times disappear based on demand. Sometimes you will see a restaurant that has no Mobile Order window for two hours since all the spots are taken. Do not let this be you, and make sure to order in advance to secure the window that you want. Don’t worry, if you change your mind you can always cancel your order or move your arrival window! Mobile Order window The best part of using Mobile Order? You get to skip the line! By using Mobile Order you no longer have to wait in a line to place your order! This can help save you so much time, time that can be used towards your park day. Click Here to See Participating Mobile Order Restaurants! Dine at Off Times There are certain times at Disney World that we have noticed are less busy for dining. To start, the times you should avoid are 8-9 AM, noon-1:30 PM, and 6-7 PM. These are the times that most people want to eat, and while we know you probably do as well, avoiding these times can save you a headache. It is not only hard to wait in lines during these times, but finding a table can be a whole ordeal that you don’t want to have to deal with! Lunch Crowds So what about the times you should eat at? We recommend thinking of having brunch instead of a breakfast between 10:30 and 11AM or a late lunch between 2-4PM. As for dinner, late dinners have less crowds between 8-9 PM. If you do not want to wait this long, your best bet for quick service meals is to arrive just as doors are about to open for breakfast and lunch. Low Crowds at Yak and Yeti Make Advance Dining Reservations You can also avoid the lunchtime rush by making advance dining reservations 60 days before your arrival. If you want to eat at a table service restaurant in the park without a reservation, it can be tough to find openings. While sometimes openings do pop up, we recommend making sure you have those lunch reservations squared away before you arrive. Dining Room at Cinderella’s Royal Table By having a lunch reservation, you are setting yourself up for success! You do not have to stress about finding a table or going up to order/pick up your food. Having a mid-day table service meal can also help you re-charge for the day, giving you a moment to sit down and breathe! Click Here to See a New Change Coming to Advance Dining Reservations! Lady and the Tramp Tribute in Tony’s Town Square We might not be able to make the crowds go away during the lunchtime rush at Disney World, but hopefully, these three tips can set you up for an easier and stress-free lunch experience! 14. It’s time to set the record straight. Yes, Disney World Cast Members work for a mouse, and yes, it’s a super fun and rewarding job (if you like Disney, anyway), but there are some things people STILL get wrong about being a Cast Member. Mickey Mouse The Disney Food Blog team is made up of a LOT of former Disney World Cast Members. Once you retire from the hectic life of working in a theme park, you come out of it with a LOT of stories. And yes, the DFB team has shared some WILD stories about our experiences. But this time, we’re going to squash some lies. Don’t believe the rumors — they often aren’t true. Let’s talk about some of the biggest LIES people believe about being a Disney World Cast Member. Discounts Galore! Alright, we’re gonna say it. Yes, a lot of Disney World Cast Members see the FREE access to the parks as one of the BIGGEST perks of the job. Don’t get it twisted, though. Cast Members aren’t in it just for the freebies and discounts. You have to REALLY like Disney (and people) to be good at this job. Yes, we can go to the Magic Kingdom for FREE! Now, let’s clear up a common misconception. Despite the fact that Cast Members can visit the parks for free, Disney does NOT offer a steep merchandise discount all year long. In fact, those high souvenir discounts only happen seasonally. Often, the discount is comparable with those who are Annual Passholders or Disney Vacation Club members. So, yeah. If you think Disney World Cast Members are playing WAY less for those Minnie ears, think again. Phenomenal Cosmic Power! Sorry to burst your bubble, but most Disney Cast Members don’t actually have the power to do what you want them to do. Here’s an example. Say you couldn’t get a Lightning Lane for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. No matter how much you plead, those Cast Members aren’t ALLOWED to let you through the Lightning Lane. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind The same thing goes for Cast Members in all areas of Disney World! Those Character Attendants can’t let you and your family in line to meet Mickey once the line is closed, no matter how much they many WANT to help you out. The rules are the rules, and most Cast Members simply don’t have the power to override the system. Visiting Guest Relations can be super helpful! That said, if you need help, your best bet is to visit a blue umbrella (Guest Experience Team) or Guest Relations. Those Cast Members typically have a little more “power,” and it’s literally their job to fix problems. Just don’t expect the 20-something-year-old Cast Member at Cosmic Ray’s to be able to hook you up with a rain check if your Halloween Party is rained out. Andy’s Coming! At this point, it seems like most people know that this trend is officially DEAD, but juuuust in case, we’re here to dispel the rumors. Back in the day, an innocent little internet story took on a life of its own and got a little out of control. There was an old rumor that if you shouted “ANDY’S COMING” in front of the Toy Story characters (specifically Woody, in most cases), then Woody would drop to the floor, ragdoll-style, just like in the movie. Hey, Woody! It seems like a cute idea, but at the end of the day, this is a safety issue. So no, Woody (and friends) will NOT react if you try to shout, “Andy’s coming!” Don’t worry, though; there are TONS of other fun things you can say to Woody if you want to have a memorable interaction. He loves talking about his horse, Bullseye, all the adventures he’s been on, and what it’s like to be a sheriff. MAGIC! This point is similar to the one we mentioned before. The first rule about magical moments is you can’t ASK for a magical moment. One, Cast Members often don’t have the power (or authority) to make magic whenever they want, and two, it ruins the impact if you’re telling someone exactly what you want them to do for you. Where’s the fun in that?! ©Disney Often, those magic moments come when you least expect them! The more you’re “on alert” for something special to happen, the more disappointed you’ll feel in the end. But we can’t leave you on a low note, so we’ve got to remind you that HUNDREDS of magic moments happen every. single. day in Disney World. So keep an open mind and have FUN! Festival of Fantasy Parade Moral of the story? Cast Members get paid to do a LOT for people in the parks, but they *probably* don’t have quite as much power and influence as you think. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. Is a NEW Character Meet-and-Greet Trend Taking Over the Disney World Parks? 16. It’s practically spring in Florida, which means the weather will hopefully be warming up. Warmer temperatures mean water rides are a welcome sight! Kali River Rapids A popular water ride will be re-opening this week after a lengthy refurb! But while one ride opens, several other Disney World attractions remain closed. Let’s see what’s opening and what’s staying closed in Disney World this week! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids Kali River Rapids usually closes early in the year for refurbishment since water rides like this tend to be less popular during the winter months when it’s colder than usual. No one wants to get soaked if it’s chilly outside! In 2024, it closed on January 8th. Kali River Rapids Disney has announced that Kali River Rapids will be closed through mid-March. Right now, Disney’s calendar shows that this ride should reopen this week on March 15th! Disney hasn’t officially confirmed this as the reopening date, but we’ll be watching for it on Friday. The Best And Worst Seats on Each Ride in Disney’s Animal Kingdom We’re excited to see this water ride end its closure! However, others will remain closed this week. Let’s see what will be closed if you’re visiting Disney World the week of March 11th through 17th. Magic Kingdom Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree closed on January 27th, 2024 for refurbishment. Temporary Stage in front of Country Bear Jamboree Disney announced that a NEW show is coming to Country Bear Jamboree, with the bears learning an all-new act. The new show is set to open sometime this summer. 3 Ways Magic Kingdom has changed since the Country Bear Jamboree closed Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Splash Mountain is permanently closed — this ride is being renovated to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! The new ride will be themed to The Princess and the Frog. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure We recently learned lots of new information about this ride, including a hint that there will be Splash Mountain Easter Eggs throughout the attraction! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure queue Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open this summer in Disney World! 6 new updates at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure If you miss Splash Mountain or want to celebrate the new ride, you should check out our DFB t-shirts! We have a Splash Mountain Farwell Tour shirt… DFB Exclusive! …and a Tiana tee as well! Check out our new Tiana-inspired merch! You can shop both tees (and lots of other Disney merch) at our online store. Click here to shop our DFB merchandise store. With Country Bear Jamboree and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closed, that leaves just Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Walt Disney World Railroad open in Frontierland. The Barrel Bridge The Barrel Bridge is still missing from Tom Sawyer Island, and there’s no word on when it might return. Barrel Bridge Is Missing Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace in 2022 Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. Check out our recent review at a Magic Kingdom restaurant that blew us away! EPCOT Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is still closed in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when it might reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh The restaurant is kind of open right now — it’s functioning as a lounge with just a couple of drink options. However, we’re still waiting for the full restaurant to reopen! Did you know about this super useful hack in EPCOT? Disney’s Hollywood Studios Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed on January 8th, it won’t reopen until the summer of this year. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Although we don’t have an exact reopening date yet, we know that it’ll be at least a few months before the ride reopens. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has been confirmed. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” A HUGE Hollywood Studios ride change is coming soon! Disney World Hotels 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, 1900 Park Fare has been closed for a long time, but Disney has finally announced an opening date and BIG changes coming soon! It’s reopening soon! 1900 Park Fare will reopen with NEW dining offerings starting April 10th, 2024. It’s been confirmed that one of the signature menu items here — the Floridian Strawberry Soup — will RETURN! New characters will be available to meet at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Mirabel, and Tiana in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will all be present. ©Disney For breakfast and dinner, you’ll be able to enjoy a buffet meal. There will be new menu offerings available that pay homage to the new characters and their stories. You can now begin to make reservations to enjoy this popular restaurant! Check out the NEW full menu at 1900 Park Fare! Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The Fuentes del Morro Pool is the most popular pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The pool is themed to look like a colonial Spanish fortress and has two waterslides (including one that’s over a hundred feet long!), water spray cannons, and a shipwreck play area for the little kiddos. Construction at the pool Fuentes del Morro is currently closed, and it’ll remain closed through late March of this year, so hopefully just a couple more weeks. The closure is for routine maintenance, which we often see at Disney’s hotel pools during the winter months. If you’re staying at Caribbean Beach, are you just out of luck? Don’t worry! You can still visit any of the five leisure pools at this hotel. There’s one leisure pool at each village. Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter Doubloon Lagoon at Port Orleans — French Quarter has a 51-foot long water slide that looks like a sea serpent, a whirlpool spa, and Mardi Gras decorations. The pool closed in January and will stay closed through April 2024. Doubloon Lagoon Pool If you’re staying at French Quarter and want to take a swim, head over to Ol’ Man Island at Port Orleans — Riverside, which you can easily walk to from French Quarter. Ol’ Man Island is actually a pool complex! The pool area there has waterfalls, a 95-foot waterslide, a whirlpool, and a kiddie pool. Have you tried the ultimate pool bar crawl? Typhoon Lagoon Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be reopening late this week on March 17th, 2024! Typhoon Lagoon The water park has been closed since November 2023 while Disney worked on some refurbishments and spruced up the place. While the park was closed, visitors could instead go to Blizzard Beach Water Park, which will still be open for a few more days— but that’s about to change too. Blizzard Beach will be closed as of March 17th, 2024, so March 16th will be your last day to squeeze in a visit if you want! Check out our ultimate Disney World water park packing list! 17. Spring is here! Confectionery That’s right — the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival is underway, and the Easter egg displays have arrived at Disney World hotels. The Easter snacks are arriving, too, along with St. Patrick’s Day treats (ALL the green dye, y’all). Pastels are in again, which is a good thing because a new snack has arrived in Disney World and it’s fun, colorful, AND everything spring. We decided to stop by Main Street Confectionery in Magic Kingdom to see if there was anything new, and a Spring Popcorn Mix for $15.99 had arrived. Now hold on to your hats because there is a LOT going on in this popcorn mix. It’s Caramel Popcorn layered with M&M Milk Chocolate Candies, Crushed Vanilla Cookies, Mini Marshmallows, and Yellow and White Chocolate Drizzles. WHEW. Our dentist just cringed. It’s so fun and colorful! HOWEVER, we have a major sweet tooth, which is good, because you need it for this snack. But it’s a lot of fun with loads of textures like soft marshmallows, crispy vanilla cookies, and crunchy M&Ms. There are also TWO layers of toppings, so you’re getting pretty much everything in each bite. LOTS going on there Overall, it has a very sweet flavor. It’s also a LOT, so you might want to share it. If all of those toppings scare you, you can also request less — or more — of certain toppings. We were asked if we wanted the two layers of chocolate (um…yes, PLEASE?). It’s ooey and gooey, too We do have to warn you: grab lots of napkins before you leave Main Street Confectionery. This is a VERY sticky and messy treat, and if you have baby wipes on hand, well, that’s even better. Totally worth it, though. This popcorn mix is only available for a limited time, so you’ll want to be sure to grab it soon! Stay tuned to DFB for more! WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! 18. Phew, wait times are NOT budging in Disney World right now. Get ready to enter the Grid! We spend SO much time in lines at the Disney parks, and sometimes it just does not feel like we get a reprieve from the long wait times. This week is one of those weeks! The lines may feel endless at times, but the rides can be SO worth it. There are even some fun things you can do with your family in line — even if you’re not in an interactive queue. For example, you could play a classic game of “I Spy”, you could play “Heads Up” (an app you can get on your phone), or even just take in the scenery and enjoy the moment. Sometimes, doing fun things like that can take some of the pain out of the long wait times — now, let’s take a look at how long you’ll be occupying yourself! Take a look at this week’s average wait times — going from highest to lowest! Magic Kingdom Wait Times Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is still taking the lead with the highest average wait time by 10 minutes. 19. It’s time friends…to check on our favorite Tiny Train Town! Tiny Town in EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion This small town is tucked away in the Germany Pavilion, and we check back regularly to see what wild things are happening in this town. BOY, does this town face a lot of strange events, villainy, disasters, and everything in between. And we need to inform all the residents of this tiny town (because we’re sure they read DFB) that they may face some MASSIVE transportation issues. The infamous train in the Tiny Train Town has STOPPED! It was completely motionless when we saw it. It’s a really big part of transportation for these residents, so this will cause some issues for the foreseeable future (or…whenever the train starts moving again). oh NO We also noticed that there’s a new house being built! Does this mean new neighbors are moving in? Do they know what they’re getting into? Who’s moving into this wild tiny town? Trust us, we’ve been around the block enough to know that this town is kind of a mess. Sure, it may look nice from a distance, but if you look a little closer, you’ll see that this idyllic town is full of shifty residents and shady operations. Need we remind you of THIS situation?! 20. Are you ready for a change this weekend? Animal Kingdom The change we’re talking about is…Spring, meaning it’s Daylight Savings Time once again (that whole spring-forward or fall-back time change that happens twice a year). So we’ll be getting an extra hour of glorious Florida sunshine in the evenings, and we’ll also be seeing a specific change at one of the Disney World parks. Over in Animal Kingdom, Kilimanjaro Safaris will have new evening hours starting on March 10th with Daylight Savings Time. Kilimanjaro Safaris Up until Match 9th, this ride runs until 5:45PM each night, and that’s unique compared to the other attractions at Animal Kingdom in that it closes early to accommodate the animals. Kilimanjaro Safaris Elephant Starting on March 10th, the Safaris will be closing at 6:45PM. That gives you an extra hour each day to enjoy the ride. Kilimanjaro Safaris Hippo That’s not the only time change. According to the Disney World website, on March 24th, the ride will close at 6PM, and it looks like it will continue to close at 6PM from that point on (at this moment, the Disney World calendar only shows operating hours through early May). Zebra! You’re going to want to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app when planning a trip to Disney World. It’s how you’re going to know how late everything in the park will remain open. Kilimanjaro Safaris Cast Member Park hours have a tendency to change at a moment’s notice, so keep an eye out for that too. Until then, we’ll be on the lookout for more changes that could be impacted by Daylight Saving Time, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and updates from Disney World and more! 22. Some big changes could be coming to Disneyland Resort. Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure And we’re not even talking about the changes that are already underway, including construction on a new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the update to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion queue. No, we’re talking about the Disneyland Forward initiative, which could bring entire new LANDS to Disneyland Resort. That’s why March 11th is a very important day for the proposed Disneyland expansion. On March 11th, the City of Anaheim Planning Commission is having a meeting to look over all the documents Disney has submitted regarding DisneylandForward and the expansion plans for Disneyland. Now, granted, Disneyland can’t actually EXPAND its acreage because it’s in the middle of a city, but Disney’s proposed plan would see parts of the 500-acre Disneyland property get re-zoned so Disney can use those areas for new rides, restaurants, lands, etc. Disneyland The proposed plan would put $1.9 billion into expanding Disneyland’s hotels, shopping, parking, dining, and theme parks. According to Josh D’Amaro, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman, “We’ve got so much space to play with. Disneyland, for example, Walt’s original theme park, we still have enough room to build another Disneyland there if we choose to do that.” Disneyland Disney has provided the City’s planning commission with all the necessary documents ahead of the March 11th meeting, including an Environmental Impact study, the company’s general plan, the proposed development agreement, a Magic Way supplemental traffic analysis, and more. Donald’s digs in Toontown The commission is expected to vote on the proposed plan at the meeting, so we might ultimately know if Disneyland will be moving forward with the expansion. The company has already thrown out many ideas for additional lands and rides, pointing to its upcoming new lands in Tokyo Disneyland as an example, including Tangled and Peter Pan-themed lands. The company has also opened new lands devoted to Frozen and Zootopia in its international parks. World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland Disney CEO Bob Iger has also mentioned creating an Avatar-themed land, similar to the one in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, for Disneyland. We’ll be paying close attention to what happens on March 11th (fingers crossed for Disneyland!) and let you know what is ultimately decided. So stay tuned to DFB for more. 5 SURPRISES Coming to Disney’s Haunted Mansion Area Expansion Want to Learn More About Disneyland? Check Out the Links Below! Brightline train We even took the train from Orlando to Miami to see what it was like (hint: it was SO NICE). We will probably take the train often, so you can imagine how excited we were to learn that Brightline will soon launch a loyalty rewards program for repeat riders! Brightline recently offered a sneak peek at its new loyalty rewards program. Any travel information in your account will count towards eligibility to earn rewards. Brightline at Orlando You can also use your Brightline account to see how many rewards you’ve earned, access your travel credits, as well as manage your bookings. The more you keep riding, the more rewards you’ll unlock. Brightline also promises special surprises like perks, discounts, and even more rewards for those who participate in the loyalty program. ©Brightline In the meantime, Brightline will soon be going to even MORE places, including the West Coast (and a few new places in Florida, too). 24. We LOVE our food here at DFB! We even dream about eating sometimes, that is how much we love it. Disney’s Contemporary Resort We also love delicious AND convenient food! That is why we are BEGGING Disney to add these two items to Mobile Order at one of our favorite restaurants at Disney’s Contemporary Resort! We are looking at you, Steakhouse 71! This restaurant is located inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort and it has some AMAZING food! However, we do have one BIG issue that we are hoping Disney World will solve soon! Steakhouse 71 Steakhouse 71 offers Mobile Ordering for select dishes through the My Disney Experience app. Just head to Steakhouse 71 To Go to set-up your order. And while we are grateful the option exists; we REALLY want to see two dishes added to the dinner menu! The Stack Burger First off, the true star of Steakhouse 71, the Stack Burger! It is a Signature Blend of Beef, Pork Belly, American Cheese, Lemon Aioli, Red Onion, House-made Pickles, on a Brioche Bun. We usually opt for parmesan fries as the side, but you can also order it with pasta salad or petite Caesar salad. It is cheesy and juicy, with lots of flavor! The Stack Burger, we are getting hungry just looking at it! Now before anyone comes at us, let’s set a few things straight. You CAN order the Stack Burger through Steakhouse 71 To Go for lunch, BUT it is NOT available during dinner. And, while the Stack Burger is not available during dinner at Steakhouse 71, it IS available at the Steakhouse 71 Lounge, so they are making it during this time period. Essentially, what we are getting at is we want to be able to Mobile Order this beauty during dinner from Steakhouse 71 To Go! Cheesy, juicy, and flavorful amazingness! We want to be able to grab The Stack Burger on Mobile Order whenever our heart is calling for it! Pretty please, with a cherry on top! Check out the BEST burgers in Disney World! Bacon and Eggs Appetizer The Stack Burger is WONDERFUL, but we are also hoping to be able to grab another dish by Mobile Ordering! The Bacon and Eggs dish is amazing, and we are so sad that it is not available from Steakhouse 71 To Go currently. Bacon and Eggs Appetizer (although we would argue it is a full meal!) The Bacon & Eggs appetizer is Maple-lacquered Pork Belly, Smoked Cheese Grits and a Perfect Egg. The combination of flavors is perfect, and even though it is listed as an appetizer, we think that is could also be a full meal if you aren’t super hungry. Just look at it, our mouth is watering! We did check with the Steakhouse Lounge, and they said you MIGHT be able to order these dishes to go from the lounge if you walk up, but it really depends on how busy the lounge and kitchen are. No guarantees, but it doesn’t hurt to ask if you are interested! While we still love you, Steakhouse 71, we hope we will soon be able to Mobile Order some more of our favorites! 25. The spring break travel season is upon us, and well, if you’re traveling this weekend, you may need to bring some patience, at least if you’re flying on one particular airline. So here’s the thing. Spring break travel means a LOT of people are flying into Orlando International Airport. However, this time of the year also brings rainy weather to the South and Southeast. Southwest Airlines at the Orlando Airport Those two things mean that this is the time of year that flight delays could happen (we saw delays around this time last year), especially on Southwest Airlines, which has a lot of flights coming and going from those destinations. As of March 9th, Southwest Airlines has delayed over 40% of its flights at Orlando International Airport. Ouch. Yes, if you’re flying to or from Orlando International Airport today, March 9th, and your flight is booked on Southwest, you might want to prepare for flight delays. According to FlightAware, 201 Southwest flights are currently delayed at Orlando, which is about 54 percent of its total flights. Additionally, 53 flights have been canceled. Note that we’ve been watching these numbers increase all morning. ©FlightAware It’s not just Orlando that’s being affected. There are over 800 Southwest delays across the country. According to WTHR, most of Southwest’s delays are due to weather. Southwest wrote in a statement, “Thunderstorms in the Southeast are impacting our operation, and we apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate our Customers’ patience while we work to get them safely to their destinations.” Southwest airplane The weather is also affecting other airlines. At the moment, nearly 500 flight delays are happening at Orlando International Airport, and 4,000 flight delays are happening across the U.S. Yep, weather can really mess up a flight schedule. ©FlightAware If you’re flying this weekend, you’ll want to make sure you are prepared. First, be sure to download your airline’s app and make sure you have airline notifications set to contact you in case of a delay or cancelation. If you’re at the airport, you’ll want to keep an eye on the screens that display flight information, as well as listen to any and all announcements about your flight. If your flight DOES get delayed, be sure you know about your rights as a passenger. Orlando Airport Stay tuned to DFB for more. Are Orlando Airport Flight Delays Caused by Rocket Launches?
