Who else is beyond excited for Inside Out 2 to drop in theaters in just a few days? Inside Out 2 Preview at Walt Disney Presents The new Pixar film comes out on June 14th, and we’ve been following along with all the exciting Inside Out news happening around the Disney parks, including the new Inside Out 2 World of Color — ONE pre-show you can find in Disney California Adventure right now! But we have more great news for Disneyland fans of the series — a new emotion is coming to the parks! He’ll be joining Joy and Sadness and other Pixar Pals over at Pixar Pier, where they usually greet guests between 8:30AM and 8PM. Now, we don’t have an exact date for when he’ll start to appear, but we’ll keep an eye out and tell you what we find! Joy meeting at Pixar Pier! There are tons of Disney characters you can meet all around Disneyland Resort. Many of them have designated meeting spots, which you can find in your Disneyland App, while others are roaming characters who you may see randomly throughout your day. If you more frequently visit Disney World, you likely haven’t seen many roaming characters — while it does happen over in WDW, it’s more common in Disneyland, so prepare yourself! Pixar Pier Nervous about meeting a character for the first time? Here are some tips to help you out! Think of a question you’d like to ask the character ahead of time. It’s best to have it be something related to their world, such as asking Rapunzel how Pascal is doing, but it can also be as simple as asking how they’re doing! If you can’t think of anything to say, these characters talk to people all day long — they know how to start and lead a conversation! Just go with the flow and you’ll be just fine. Your interaction doesn’t have to be super long if you don’t want it to be! You could walk up, say hello, and ask to take some photos — that’s perfectly fine! It’s SNACK time. Roast Beef Popcorn AJ is in Tokyo DisneySea for the official grand-opening of Fantasy Springs this week! We got a look at the amazing new rides and restaurants at Fantasy Springs during a preview last month. But there was one snack we were desparate to try and it wasn’t available. But now AJ was able to sample it! So what did she think? Let’s find out… For those who might not know, popcorn is a BIG deal at the Tokyo Disney Resort. Fans often line up for hours each day at various locations inside Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea to get a taste of some of the dozens of exotic flavors that have been offered over the years including Soy Sauce Butter, Green Tea White Chocolate, and the perennial favorite Curry. Therefore, it stands to reason that the resort’s massive new expansion has an exclusive NEW popcorn flavor. This time, it’s Roast Beef! Tokyo’s Peter Pan Popcorn Bucket ©Disney The new Roast Beef Popcorn is available from the Popcorn Wagon – – which is designed to look like “a boat pieced together from colorful slabs of old wood” – – in the Peter Pan’s Neverland subsection of Fantasy Springs. Popcorn Wagon So, what did AJ think of it? Well, according to her the roast beef flavor was “SO INTENSE…and not really in a good way??” She expanded, “It smells so strongly of meat. When you taste it, the smokey flavor fills your mouth and doesn’t let go. One kernel stuck with me for like 5 minutes. It’s a LOT. Meaty and savory but with a strong artificial taste that coats your mouth.” A bit too “meaty”? So, suffice to say the Roast Beef Popcorn might not be one of the Tokyo Disney Resort’s home run flavors. However, perhaps those who are fans of intense smokey meat flavors may enjoy it, and it’ll go on to become a fan favorite? A Fantasy Springs cast member with roast beef popcorn. Can you believe we’re (hopefully) just about a year away from the opening of Epic Universe in Orlando? ©Universal While no official opening date has been announced yet, it’s long been mentioned that Universal plans to have the new park open “certainly in time for Summer 2025,” and we count that as being less than a year away! But what’s construction looking like? Will they be able to meet this timeline? Let’s take a look! But what are things looking like on the ground? Well over at Terra Luna and Stella Nova Resorts, things are looking great! Stella Nova Resort Being on the ground, it’s wild to see just HOW big this new park (and surrounding hotels) are! Terra Luna Resort When driving around the Terra Luna and Stella Nova Resort areas, you can also see just how much of the area still has yet to be developed! Construction from a far! We also spotted some buildings being built that we aren’t totally sure what they’ll be just yet! What will these be? We don’t know just yet! We’re loving watching the latest construction updates happen in real time, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news! Bob Iger has responded to a HUGE Disney criticism! We often recommend planning ahead when it comes to where you’re going to eat in Disney World! Via Napoli in EPCOT At many table service restaurants in Disney World, you’ll need to make a reservation in advance. But even the quick-service restaurants in Disney World can back up with LONG lines (especially at lunch and dinner time), and that can take a LOT of time out of your park day. That’s why we highly recommend using Mobile Order through the Disney World app, and ordering your food well in advance (you can choose a time slot later in the day and have it all ready to go!). But we talk about that stuff ALL THE TIME. We just realized, though, that there’s one thing about Disney World diningwe don’t tell you about enough — so let’s talk about it! Let’s say you’ve planned out everything about your Disney World day, right down to what snacks and meals you’re going to eat. Some people love to do this level of planning for their trip (and some don’t — I’m mostly in the DON’T, and that’s A-OK!). BUT if you do, you’ve gotta do this one important thing to be sure that you aren’t super disappointed! You’ve GOTTA check the restaurant hours! Steakhouse 71 Disney’s restaurant hours aren’t always gonna be the same for ALL their restaurants across the board. (Ah, inconsistencies. Gotta love ‘em.) Some restaurants that serve breakfast in the parks open BEFORE the parks open, like Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. Crystal Palace Some restaurants will stay open until the park closes up shop. Some restaurants will stay open a little bit AFTER a park closes up shop (like Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom, for instance). Casey’s Corner Some restaurants will continue poppin’ for HOURS after the parks close. (Like what you’ll find over in the Disney Springs scene.) The Edison stays open late! Some restaurants will close HOURS before the parks do (like several Animal Kingdom snack and quick service kiosks). The Smiling Crocodile in Animal Kingdom usually closes mid-afternoon. And some restaurants will only be open for a limited amount of time during the day (like how Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness has three showtimes per evening: one at 4PM, one at 6:15PM, and one at 8:30PM). Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Dinner Show The advice I’m giving you here is real straightforward. No catches, no loopholes, no parts A-B-C-and D. If there’s a restaurant you wanna check out during your upcoming visit, simply check its listed hours ahead of time! Whether it be a quick service, a table service, a signature service, or a lounge — each place has its own hours of operation that you’re gonna want to study up on, just so you don’t potentially miss out on any of your priority eats and treats from any specific location. Look Alive Mai Tai at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto So once again, please check and double-check the restaurant opening times before your Disney World trip! They could change, and if you know in advance, you’ll still have time to adjust your plan. Keep following us here at DFB for more Disney World tips and tricks! In case you didn’t know, Epic Universe isn’t the only new project that Universal is working on. ©Universal There’s still a lot left unknown about Universal Kids Resort in Texas. However, while Universal may be staying silent on further updates for now, we’ve recently seen more evidence suggesting that progress is happening when it comes to the construction of this new theme park! The next phase of construction is set to be underway soon for Universal Kids Resort! The upcoming park is making its home in Frisco, Texas, and just took another step forward with its construction. ©Universal (initial concept art) According to the Dallas Morning News, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows that further work on the Universal Kids Resort between Preston Road and U.S. Highway 380 could begin as soon as July. ©Texas.gov This filing shares an interesting detail that the completion of the project is currently listed for May 2026. Also, we can see that the construction cost for both the hotel and theme park is listed at more than $152 million and involves a footprint of over 718,000 square feet. Additionally, the architecture firm M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates Inc. is listed as the design firm. ©Universal In other news, we did see recent drone footage of the construction site: We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this Universal Park as construction gets further underway, so keep it right here for the latest as soon as it’s available! We spotted a new permit for work near one of Magic Kingdom‘s most iconic rides! Pirates of the Caribbean Things around Disney World are constantly changing. That’s why we like to keep an eye out for any permits that are filed that indicate that something new or updated could be in the works! We recently noticed that a new permit was filed for the address 4873 Caribbean Wy #B. This address lines up with the Caribbean Plaza area in Magic Kingdom, which is located right next to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar Gift Shop The permit was filed on May 31st for general construction at this address. The contractor named on the permit is Whiting-Turner, who has worked with Disney Imagineering in the past (however this particular permit is not for Imagineering). Pirates of the Caribbean General construction permits can mean anything from minor changes to big updates, so it’s tough to say what exactly is in store with this particular project. But we did find the expiration date on this permit interesting — the specified expiration date was 8/31/2025, which is farther out than the typical 1-year expiration dates on many permits. This could indicate more extensive work related to the permit, or it could mean that the company doesn’t intend to start the work until further into the year. Pirates of the Caribbean That’s not the only update we recently spotted from this area of the park. We also noticed just this week that Tortuga Tavern, a quick service restaurant near Pirates of the Caribbean was closed. When we went to check out the closure, a Cast Member told us this was a seasonal closure, although that did seem odd to us since we would expect seasonal locations to be open during the busy summer months. Tortuga Tavern The address listed on the permit actually lines up with the gift shop area next to Pirates of the Caribbean, NOT Tortuga Tavern (or the attraction itself), so this particular permit doesn’t appear to be related to the Tortuga Tavern closure. New permit for construction in Caribbean Plaza With all of these changes in the area, we’re wondering if this has anything to do with the MASSIVE expansion coming to Magic Kingdom, which includes a new bar inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean. According to Disney, “This first-of-its-kind experience will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean.” ©Disney Disney hasn’t revealed the exact location of the new bar yet, but it’s interesting that several potential clues have popped up within days of each other! We’ll continue to keep a close eye on this area of the park for any more updates or clues, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest on all the exciting developments coming to Magic Kingdom! 3 NEW Rides We Could See in Disney World Now That Iger Has Confirmed Every Park Expansion Will Be IP-Based Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! There’s a deserted restaurant in the middle of Magic Kingdom, and we’re starting to get worried! Magic Kingdom There can’t be better real estate for a restaurant than right smack-dab in the middle of Magic Kingdom, so WHY hasn’t Disney reopened this quick service spot yet? Right now, it’s just taking up a whole lot of space. Let’s take a look at what the restaurant is, what it’s been, and what we think it SHOULD be! The deserted restaurant that we’re talking about is, of course, Tomorrowland Terrace. This is a quick service spot that’s located close to the front of Tomorrowland, with entrances off of Main Street, U.S.A., and right as you enter Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland Terrace What’s Going On with Tomorrowland Terrace? To be fair, it’s not necessarily weird for Tomorrowland Terrace to be closed. Even several years ago, this restaurant was usually only open during particularly busy times. Closed When it was open, it served typical quick-service fare like chicken strips, cheeseburgers, and salad. Angus 1/3 pound BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger But what IS weird is for it to be closed for this long! Tomorrowland Terrace closed down with the rest of the park in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, when the park reopened, it was open for a little while as a temporary replacement for Columbia Harbour House, which remained closed longer than some of the rest of the park. Tomorrowland Terrace “Reopening” Now that Columbia Harbour House has reopened, Tomorrowland Terrace is closed. It’s been closed for a couple of years now, and we’re wondering if and when it’ll ever reopen. The ONLY Time It’s “Open” There is ONE time each day when Tomorrowland Terrace is “open”: during the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Viewing Parties! These parties offer guests a place to watch the iconic fireworks with refreshments like drinks and dessert. Fireworks Dessert Parties are a great way to get a good view (with snacks!) They take place at Tomorrowland Terrace, so at least the space isn’t being completely wasted right now. Fireworks Party at Tomorrowland Terrace in Magic Kingdom During the day, sometimes the dining room area is open so you can hang out and relax there in the shade. Dining room Other times, however, it’s roped off to keep people out. What Should Disney Do With It? Here Are Our BEST Ideas So what SHOULD Disney do with this deserted restaurant? Here at DFB, we have a few EXCELLENT ideas. We could make it an Extraterrorestrial Alien Encounter-themed restaurant as a nod to that bizarre attraction that used to be found in Tomorrowland (which is another now-deserted area of the park — there are more of those than you’d expect!). Who doesn’t want a terrifying alien to hang out with them while they eat lunch? ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was here before Stitch’s Great Escape Another DFB team member suggested a character dining restaurant with the family from Carousel of Progress, which we think is an awesome idea! I’m only going if Rover is there, too. Maybe it could have a menu of eats that feature popular dishes throughout the decades, like an appetizer that was popular in the ’50s, then entrées that were big in the ’60s, and finally desserts that people loved in the ’70s! Carousel of Progress Someone brought up that Disney should bring back their “Dine with an Imagineer” experience and move it to this location, and guests could talk with Imagineers about all the future Disney projects they’re currently working on. That sounds like an awesome concept for a land that’s all about looking forward to tomorrow. Dine with an Imagineer Remember the restaurant from Disney’s Starcruiser hotel? There were lots of interesting, futuristic eats there — Disney could bring them all to Tomorrowland Terrace as a nod to the now-closed Star Wars-themed hotel! Night 1 Dinner in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room Just one more idea: We are all members of the (unofficial) Sonny Eclipse Fan Club, so we think Disney should turn the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant into a fan meet-up. (If you’re confused, Sonny Eclipse is the alien DJ at the Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café restaurant in Tomorrowland.) Maybe there could even be a Sonny Eclipse character meet-and-greet! And the Space Angels could be there serenading everyone! Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray’s Clearly, we have a lot of fantastic ideas about what Tomorrowland Terrace could be. We’re just waiting for Disney to ask for our input now. In the meantime, you can enjoy lots of other Magic Kingdom quick service spots, like Cosmic Ray’s (for burgers and chicken tenders), Columbia Harbour House (for seafood), and Pinocchio Village Haus (for flatbread pizzas). With DOZENS of places to eat at Disney World, we know it can be tough to plan your meals. That’s why we wrote the DFB Guide to Dining at Walt Disney World. We have reviews, pictures, and details about every restaurant all in one digital download – along with ALL of our best tips and strategies from decades of Disney World trips. If you’re heading to Downtown Disney in Disneyland Resort soon, then we’ve got some news you need to know! New Downtown Disney Entrance We’ve been checking out all the new eats that have landed in this shopping and dining district lately, and are now thrilled to share that you can book reservations for you and your travel party at TWO of the newly opened restaurants! Just recently, Michelin-starred chef Carlos Gaytan created a menu of Mexican cuisine for two new restaurants in Downtown Disney — Paseo and Céntrico (and a quick service option at Tiendita too)! Paseo is the upstairs dining room while Céntrico offers a courtyard bar and restaurant. Centrico We’ve gotten a chance to dine at both new restaurants and give you our full thoughts on each of them, and if you’ve been wanting to get your hands on a reservation, today is the day you can make that dream come true! Crowds outside Centrico On Downtown Disney’s Instagram, it was officially announced that reservations are now open for both Paseo and Céntrico! ©Disney For both restaurants, you’ll just want to search up its name on the Disneyland website (or in the Disneyland App), hit “Check Available Days,” plug in what days you’d like to grab a reservation for, select which one works for you, and you’re all set! ©Disney Now, if you don’t see reservations available, don’t worry just yet! We see last minute reservations pop up all the time for Disneyland Resort restaurants, so keep checking back before and during your trip to see if something opens up. We are coming at you from Magic Kingdom as we experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for the first-time during Cast Member previews! We have been not-so-patiently waiting for this attraction to open and starting most of our articles with “We’re almost there!” somewhere in the opening paragraph. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom Well, previews have officially kicked off for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, so we REALLY are getting that much closer to the grand opening. We were fortunate to be able to take part in Cast Member previews, and we are sharing ALL the details with you! We have been keeping a close eye on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and we have shared lots of sneak peeks into the attraction. Some of these sneak peeks have included introducing new critter friends, taking a look at the new animatronics, and seeing Imagineers and Cast Members testing the ride. Now, we are taking you on a sneak peek of the ride itself ahead of its grand opening on June 28th, 2024. Tiana’s queue is full of references to the film and its characters. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure takes place where The Princess and the Frog left off. On the ride, we are joining Princess Tiana and friends to hunt down a missing ingredient for their Mardi Gras celebration. The attraction takes riders on a musical adventure through the bayou of Louisiana as they come across their favorite characters from The Princess and the Frog, as well as lots of new faces. We have been keeping a close eye on all the construction progress, and now we have the opportunity to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! And of course, we are bringing you along with us. Overall, we think that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’s drop, while still physically the same, gives the ride’s climax a completely different vibe. It has been amazing getting a preview of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure before it officially opens. We got to explore the new queue and take a look at all the details, as well as jam out to some fantastic new sounds and tunes. The droooooop Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is currently only open for previews for select groups including DVC members, D23 Gold Members, Cast Members, and Annual Passholders. So, while you will likely see people riding over the next few weeks, it is currently only available through a reservation. However, the ride officially opens to everyone on June 28th, 2024! On Opening Day, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be utilizing the virtual queue system and the Genie+ service. There will be no standby line available, and if you want to ride the attraction you will either need to get a virtual queue or reserve a time slot through the Genie+ service. The view from the top of the world. Make sure you have the My Disney Experience app downloaded, and you are linked with your friends and family for both of these options. While Disney World has said that the virtual queue likely won’t stick around for too long, you will need a virtual queue for at least a bit when the ride first opens. We will be here with more coverage of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure previews, as well as coverage of opening day. And be sure to grab your “Never Lose Sight” t-shirt to wear on your first ride! This will be perfect in ride photos! Never Lose Sight! Order Your Bayou Adventure Shirt Here! Make sure to stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news! IT’S HERE! We just got a chance to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — which officially opens to the public on June 28th. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure During this time, Cast Members, Annual Passholders, and DVC Members have a chance to preview the ride before it officially opens. We’ve gotten looks at some of the new characters we’ll meet on the ride and what some of the animatronics will look like, but now we’re taking a deep dive into how detailed this queue really is! For some background info, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is located in the same spot and ride building as Splash Mountain was in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland. The story of the ride picks up a year after The Princess and The Frog film ends. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Tiana has opened her dream restaurant, Tiana’s Palace, and now she’s preparing to host a Mardi Gras party for the town! But Tiana realizes the party is missing one final key ingredient, and that’s where we come in. Guests will join Tiana and Louis on the hunt for the final ingredient where you’ll meet tons of unexpected new friends along the way and work towards getting the party ready for the town. ©Disney Don’t worry — the ride still features the same 5-story drop Splash Mountain did and is still 11-12 minutes long, but has an all-new look and storyline to enjoy as you ride. While there won’t be a standby queue for this ride when it opens to the public (virtual queue and Genie+ only), it’s still expected to garner quite a large response, meaning lines may get long. So what can you expect to see in the queue? Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at night! Disney has already given us a few sneak peeks into what to expect in this ride queue, such as more of the backstory behind Tiana and her family. Her mother was a dressmaker and her father, James, a decorated veteran. To ensure the photos of Tiana’s father were accurate and honoring real military families who visit the ride, Disney Imagineers looked at real photos of soldiers who served during WWI. ©Disney Photos of James’ expanded stories show the soldiers who served in the 369th Regiment, which was one of the first African American regiments to serve with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. The French Government awarded many members of this unit the prestigious Croix de Guerre medal for their valiant service in action and were well known for their bravery. ©Disney But now it’s finally time to step into the queue for ourselves! Welcome! We were so excited to step into this beautiful Main Entrance building for the first time! Beautiful! There’s so much to explore here! So much to explore! We loved getting a closer look at the Tiana’s Bayou General building, which is where guests will exit at the end of the ride. Tiana’s Bayou General! We even spotted a hint to the Tiana’s Hot Sauces, which are bottled “at” Tiana’s Foods. Bottling Plant Sign! And then we spotted these adorable posters. Posters! Turns out, they’re advertising some of the new characters we get to see on the ride! Too cute We couldn’t get enough — they’re too cute! We love the detail! One of the best parts of the queue was the music coming out of these gramophones constantly. There’s a fake radio station playing every kind of New Orleans music jazz you can imagine, and we LOVED it! The music is INCREDIBLE! And there’s even some gardening in the queue as well, to remind us all that the ingredients for Tiana’s Foods is made right here. Growing their own ingredients You’ll even find some gardening tools to really complete the illusion. Garden tools! We also spotted a few more posters near an arrow directing us to the Spice Room. Spice Room! And we got a look at the area where guests will find their photos after the ride! It’s filled with fun knickknacks like watering cans, plants, more gardening tools, etc. Where you’ll grab your photos! And yes, there’s a Children’s Garden too! Children’s Garden It’s a smaller garden near a larger stand that holds a lantern, pots, plants, a birdhouse, and more. So adorable We also got our first real look at the new mural! A closer look at the mural! It’s absolutely stunning, and we really love the style of artwork. We love this style And this is NOT an easy surface to paint on, so we’re impressed! It looks amazing! There’s also a whole CAR in front of the mural that belongs to Tiana’s Foods! The quote says “Never, ever lose sight of what’s really important.” We love it! We’re almost to the building! If you look up, you’ll see the Tiana’s Food logo and a beautiful lantern! Heading into the building! If you look at some of the boxes around, you’ll also get a chance to really see some of the products Tiana’s Foods makes. In the story, Tiana has bought the salt mine, meaning they can make this themselves! Pecan Oil? Love it! So cool! But some ingredients come from other places, like Wong Family Groves. We’re obsessed with all the details! You really have to look for these details! Our FAVORITE detail though was spotting Ray and Evangeline in the brickwork! Ray and Evangeline! Big drop ahead! Heed this warning! Look at those beignets! We will take a plate for ourselves! Kitchen in the Queue A closer look at the kitchen. Ingredients BRB we are filing this recipe away to make Tiana’s famous beignets at home! (Actually, we really DO have her recipe right here!) Recipe Card On top of the fridge of course you can find your kitchen essentials like salt and pepper! Fridge We want to steal all the recipes! Of course you need butter and grease to cook! We love all these details in the kitchen! We will take extra powdered sugar on our beignets, please! Pans and Ingredients How could we forget! Tiana is so sweet for inviting everyone to her Mardi Gras party! An important reminder! Looks like Louis got to be part of Tiana and Naveen’s wedding day! Tiana and Naveen’s Wedding Photo Look how cute Tiana and Naveen are! More photos Of course Tiana has a fully stocked pantry! The pantry is stocked! Looks like we have some peanuts and some eggs, along with Tiana’s Foods hot sauce! Rows and rows of ingredients! We wish we could book a reservation to Tiana’s Palace! Tiana’s Palace Sign We love that Tiana was so successful that she was able to open Tiana’s Foods after opening Tiana’s Palace! A newspaper article about the “Grand Opening of Tiana’s Foods” We loved this little shelf with the painted pot! Shelf in the queue We could not think of a better place to display awards! Look at that 1st place ribbon for hot sauce! Ribbons We want to try Tiana’s hot sauce! Tiana’s Foods Hot Sauce We want to have these to cook with in our kitchen at home! More of Tiana’s Packaged Foods Belongings of those who work at Tiana’s Foods! How cute! Let’s take a closer look! Check out these posters! We want to go to “Beignet Wednesdays!” Make sure you listen to Tiana, Naveen, and Louis on WNO! Maybe you’ll be able to help Avery find her missing license plate! Posters in line Along with hot sauces it looks like Tiana’s Foods also sells packaged peppers and jalapenos! Tiana’s Foods Products This newspaper announces Tiana’s Mardi Gras party that we are all invited to! Hey we want to go to that party! Look at the details of the books on the desk! Books on desk Sticking with the times, of course Tiana needs a typewriter to write and keep people updated on her successes with Tiana’s Foods and Tiana’s Palace! Typewriter More details on the desk! Desk We love that Tiana has this sweet picture of her and her family above her desk. And check out the river boat and frog! Above Tiana’s Desk Can’t forget these important dates! Calendar Since Tiana’s Foods is a business, of course employees need to clock in and out with their punch cards! Punch cards We think this is such a fantastic queue to keep guests engaged while they wait for their turn to ride, and we can’t wait to see how the general public reacts when they get to experience it themselves for the first time. While we know it can be disappointing that EPCOT currently has no festival, something new just opened up! EPCOT We have been so excited to see EPCOT change and transform over the last few years. Soon, when CommuniCore Hall and Plaza open on June 10th, EPCOT’s transformation will be complete. Annual Passholders have gotten to enjoy a new and exclusive lounge in Morocco for about the past month, and don’t worry if you have not had a chance to visit, you still have until June 18th! And now there is a new addition to the American Adventure Pavilion! To find this new addition you are going to want to head inside the American Adventure where you would wait to see the show, the American Adventure, or where you hear the Voices of Liberty perform. American Adventure Pavilion From time to time, Disney uses this space to feature different exhibits, and a new one just opened up! It is called Portraits of Courage, and former President George W. Bush loaned this collection to Disney. The full title of this exhibit is Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors. Portraits of Courage The exhibit was set to open on June 9th, but ended up opening a few days early! As you walk around and admire the gallery, you will see portraits of veterans. Each portrait has a a biography written by the former president himself. Portraits of Courage is now open! Along with the portraits, this exhibit also showcases letters written to former President George W. Bush to thank him for his support of the military and its community. Portraits of Courage As of right now, the exhibit is set to be on display at Disney World for one year, although no exact end date has been announced. Portraits of Courage Just when we thought EPCOT’s transformation would be complete with CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opening next week on June 10th, Disney recently announced that Test Track would be getting a makeover. After visiting the Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, remember to stop by Test Track before it closes for its reimagining on June 17th! Test Track If you are looking for more entertainment to keep you satisfied while you wait for the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival to start, you can see the first stage show coming to the CommuniCore Plaza Stage from June 10th to Septemeber 16th. This show is called ¡Celebración Encanto! . This show will feature your favorite Madrigals singing your favorite songs from the movie! Prep for the brand new show! Disney World is magical. You get the chance to step foot into the world of your favorite movies and stories and it really feels like a dream come true…until you’ve been standing in the hot blazing sun for an hour trying to score a ride on Slinky Dog. Slinky Dog Dash Now, this is not a dig at Slinky Dog Dash the ride (trust us, we love it!) but it is a dig at the ride’s queue. With rides being a big part of stepping into the magic of Disney movies and experiences, ride queues are inevitable to experience during your trip. And unfortunately, there are some UNCOMFORTABLE ride queue problems we just can’t ignore. Have an idea of what those may be? Let’s find out! A ride’s queue is arguably just as important as the ride itself. It’s like the appetizer of the full-course meal; it sets the tone and can make or break your entire experience. There are some great queues with spectacular theming that transports you into the stories imagineers are trying to tell, but there are some that really highlight how uncomfortable waiting in line can truly be. Getting roasted in the sun like a marshmallow At the parks, the sun can definitely turn into our arch-nemesis. So, when we have to stand under it for at least 30 minutes, it’s safe to say we’re not exactly thrilled. At the mercy of good ol’ Mr. Sun As mentioned, Slinky Dog Dash’s queue is completely outside. There is some coverage once you get past a certain point of the queue but the heat can be felt and with the ride’s wait time averaging around 70 minutes, you can expect to wait out in the sun for some portion of it. Another ride with even minimal sun coverage is Tomorrowland Speedway. This queue has no shade for most of its queue and it can get especially grueling during the summer. Other attractions that can have you suffering the woes of the sun are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Alien Swirling Saucers, Astro Orbiter, and the Jungle Cruise. We found a great way to deal with this is by packing a UV protection umbrella which can help keep you cool and protect your skin from prolonged exposure to the sun. Check out our Amazon Storefront for travel essentials that can help with the sun! Having a bathroom emergency with NO bathroom near Want to know real pain? Waiting an hour for an attraction and then having to leave right before riding because you had to take a ‘tinkle trip’ and it just couldn’t wait. Flight of Passage This is an issue I encountered personally, and I still think about it to this day because if Flight of Passage’s mid-queue restrooms were open at that point in time, this probably wouldn’t have happened. Still, I’m happy at the addition of a restroom inside of the queue, but unfortunately, that is not the case for most attractions at the parks. We definitely wish there were more bathrooms in queues because there’s nothing worse than a bathroom emergency striking mid-line, and you’re left strategizing a speedy exit plan. It’s also a double whammy of frustration when you’ve waited so long only to have to leave halfway through. A great way to avoid this mishap is planning ahead of time and taking bathroom breaks before getting in line for an attraction. This tip is especially helpful when you’re traveling with kiddos. A boring queue with minimal theming means there’s nothing to distract from the waiting Yeah, I’m looking at you Soarin. Soarin’ Queue Soarin? More like Snore-in (ba dum tsss). No, but seriously, it’s a little upsetting to see an attraction that’s so full of life have such a dull and bland queue. Soarin of course is the first one that came to mind and it’s the one that hits the hardest for us. We just think that a queue that involves blank dark hallways with nothing but screens projecting an outdated minigame does not do this attraction justice. On the plus side, it is air-conditioned so points for that, but you can definitely feel how long you’ve been waiting in line when you have nothing to immerse yourself with. For queues like these, we suggest playing a portable or mobile game that allows you to be distracted while still being able to go through the line efficiently and as needed. People skipping the line to get to their party members I’m sure we’ve all experienced having to move over while in line because someone’s uncle’s-best friend’s-sister is ahead in the queue and they need to meet up. As much as we understand wanting to ride together, this request can be pretty uncomfortable when you have to shuffle around and make room for the other person to pass by and vice versa. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train This is totally avoidable though, and we suggest being more considerate to other guests in line and not getting into the attraction until your entire party is together. People standing too close Breathing over my neck is not going to make the line move any faster, sir… Loooong line Yeah, this can be a common issue with any queue, no matter its design. It’s not exactly comfortable having someone so close that you can practically share a backpack. Probably a universal experience in general, but even more so when you’re in line for an attraction at the parks. We think it’s a good idea to be aware of how close you are with the person in front of you to avoid this uncomfortable situation. Chaotic merges; It’s a mess! I’m stressed out just thinking about it. The Guardians! Some of our favorite queues are the ones for Cosmic Rewind and Haunted Mansion. The details featured in these queues are incredible and you fully feel immersed in their stories and world-building. However, they feature a flaw that we truly dislike: line merges. The queue starts with your average line and then at some point before entering the loading area, the line gets disrupted and it turns into a chaotic cluster of people thrown together and trying to enter whatever room is next. It can be overwhelming, especially if you’re traveling with a big party and are trying to keep everyone together. We know it was probably designed to fit as many people into the room as possible, but it can be a little too hectic for our liking, especially with all the other over-stimulating elements one goes through during their day at the parks. No benches/seating available Disney World is the most magical place on earth, but even magic has its mishaps. Rise of the Resistance Rides can have down times which makes them inoperable for the time being and those in line are left waiting a lot longer than expected. This can happen a lot with attractions using technologically advanced effects and occur within a moment’s notice. Sometimes they evacuate the lines but most times they allow guests to choose whether they prefer to leave or stay. If so, you’re looking at an even lengthier wait time and if you’ve been standing for hours already, it can really get to you. Because of this, having the opportunity to sit can be crucial. And even without downtimes, some attraction wait times are hefty so if queues don’t offer any benches or seating, it can definitely take a toll on your feet (who have probably been the bravest of warriors all day). Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom And there you have it! Uncomfortable queue problems we encounter all the time at Disney World. And although we can’t completely change the queue ourselves, we believe that the magic of preparation can help eliminate some of that uncomfortableness. A previously SOLD OUT day is available again in Magic Kingdom! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Last month, Walt Disney World announced the details on how previews would work for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure would work. For Annual Passholders, the procedure would require them to book a park pass reservation for one of the given dates, Once their reservation was secure, they would be able to attempt to join a virtual queue at 7:00AM and 1:00PM that day. The passes for available days sold out quickly, however we noticed one opened back up today. As of June 7th, AP Park Pass reservations are once again available for June 20th, which is also a Tiana’s Bayou Adventure preview day! If you’re going to try snagging one however, act fast as they’re sure to sell out again. Disney If you grab a Magic Kingdom reservation, you will be eligible to try and join the 7:00AM virtual queue and if that fails, the 1:00PM virtual queue. If you grab one for one of Walt Disney World’s other theme parks, you won’t be eligible for the 7:00AM queue drop, but you will be able to try for the 1:00PM drop. It’s interesting that there may be a further opportunity to possibly get into a preview of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, given the fact that the new attraction’s soft opening previews have been a bit of a mess so far. As with most major attractions, Tiana’s has seen numerous breakdowns and shutdowns during its preview period, which even impacted our own attempts to ride. It’ll be interesting to see if things are running smoother by the end of June. Lines for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure previews If you’re an AP Holder who still wants to try for a preview of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure before the ride opens to the general public later this month, you may be in luck… if you act fast. Here at DFB, we’re constantly on the lookout for important news to report in Disney World. Cinderella Castle Whether that’s something new like a piece of merchandise or a snack, an important update like a Genie+ change, or a temporary problem like a ride closure, there’s actually a LOT that happens in the parks and resorts on a daily basis. And our in-park reporters are often seen dashing all over the place to get answers to the most pressing questions! Recently, the team here at DFB has been working on updating our DFB Guide to Disney World Dining, which is an excellent resource for planning your upcoming vacation. The guide gets updates twice a year to make sure that the information is accurate and fresh, and those updates often mean a fair bit of on-the-ground research for our theme park reporters. DFB Guide In one particular case, we needed to know if you can still order the delicious Sebastian’s Bistro Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding at Banana Cabana — a fun little hack to pick up a yummy dessert without a dining reservation. We’d had luck in the past with this tip but wanted to make sure that it still stood, so we sent a reporter to find out. All the caramel sauce Well, our reporter at the time was finishing up a morning at Magic Kingdom, so we had to squeeze in this resort visit to an already busy day. To get to and from Caribbean Beach Resort (heading to their next destination), our reporter had to take two Skyliner routes and a bus. The entire journey and interlude to the day took a couple of hours, and by the end of the day, our reporter had clocked over 17,000 steps. Banana Cabana Going on these mini-adventures can be time-consuming and exhausting, but it’s SO worth it to provide our readers with a wealth of knowledge from the parks. Taking these side quests means that we’re sure our tips and advice are always accurate and personally tested. We’re not just passing on tips that we’ve heard from others — no! — we’re actually fact-checking things as we go and learning new information daily. Tower of Terror, Disney’s Hollywood Studio Our reporters are some of the best in the business because they truly do the hard work to answer questions for our team and our followers! And our reporter who went to Caribbean Beach? He got the bread pudding update we were waiting for — you CAN still order the iconic Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding at Banana Cabana, as well as an allergy-friendly version! That’s awesome dessert news! So good! So no matter how many bus rides and Skyliner trips it takes, we’ll make sure to report to you with accurate news and tips! Disney’s newest theme park land is officially open! Let’s go to Fantasy Springs! Fantasy Springs has finally opened in Tokyo DisneySea, and we were there for the big occasion! A few weeks ahead of time, we got to tour the new land and check out the rides and food during a media event, but then we went BACK for the grand opening. And what surprised us most? Probably the crowds! Overall, the grand opening was fairly calm! Crowds in the land weren’t too bad, and the ride wait times were minimal — hanging out around 30 minutes each for most of the day. We had priority access to the rides in Fantasy Springs with our vacation package (priority access is one of the skip-the-line options), and those lines were 10 minutes or less. Heading into the land The main crowd-related issue had to do with Mobile Ordering food. All the Mobile Order windows for the three new Fantasy Springs restaurants sold out at some point during the day, so we encourage you to place your Mobile Orders EARLY. Royal Banquet of Arendelle’s Mobile Order windows filled up by 10:30AM and the other two restaurants were gone by 3PM. Snuggly Duckling This is incredibly important to note because, on the first day, visitors were not allowed inside the restaurants without a Mobile Order. That policy may change going forward, but just know that it’s a possibility. The Snuggly Duckling Most of the day, there was a line for merchandise at Fantasy Springs Gifts. Once you got to the front, they gave you a merchandise ticket that allowed you one transaction (you could buy as many things as you wanted in that one transaction, but some things had a limit of one per transaction). The inside of the gift shop is stunning, and there was lots to see! Fantasy Springs Gifts Merchandise was also available at one of the big stores at the front of the park, which had a much longer line. We’re guessing that many people who were in this line didn’t have access to Fantasy Springs that day, so they did their shopping elsewhere. Inside Fantasy Springs Gifts Another thing to note about the opening day was the characters — we spotted a few princesses out and about near the Fantasy Springs Hotel, but other than that, the land was pretty void of live characters. This is another thing that may change as time goes on, so be on the lookout! Ariel was out by the hotel! All in all, we were SHOCKED by how calm it was in Fantasy Springs on the opening day! Keep in mind that the reason for the low crowds may be the reservation system Disney has in place. In order to visit Fantasy Springs, you need to have purchased a vacation package with access to the new land. It seems as though this choice is limiting the crowds in the new area a bit. A lot is about to happen in Magic Kingdom. Pirates of the Caribbean Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open on June 28th, but early previews of the new ride have already started for some Disney World visitors. A new MASSIVE expansion is coming to the park, too, along with a bar inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean. Yes, we said it — a Pirates of the Caribbean BAR is coming to Magic Kingdom. Now, we don’t have many details about this bar or where it will go, but y’all…we think we just found a HUGE clue about its location. Last year, Disney announced the new bar and released concept art, which features Barker Bird, who will be moving into the new tavern. Disney called the tavern a “first-of-its-kind experience” that will extend the story of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Say what? Okay, yes, please, and make that happen NOW! ©Disney So Disney has been pretty quiet about details about this new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern where guests of all ages will be welcome to tell their adventuring tales from land and sea. However, we love a good mystery and we’ve been trying to uncover exactly WHERE the new bar will go. Now, we think we could have just found a BIG clue! We LOVE this ride! So we noticed that the Disney World website is now showing that Tortuga Tavern, a quick service location near Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland has NO hours. Hmmm…well, that’s curious. ©Disney So we decided to head to Magic Kingdom and check it out for ourselves, and sure enough, Tortuga Tavern is CLOSED. Now, Tortuga TAVERN is already sort of supposed to be like a Pirates of the Caribbean bar, but not quite like the one Disney has promised. So is Disney planning on taking this existing location and plussing it up to create the new tavern? Tortuga Tavern is closed Now, to us, it looks like Tortuga Tavern is closed for good, which could indicate it’s about to get a massive makeover. However, we were also told by Cast Members that it was a seasonal closure, but we’re a little confused about that. If Tortuga Tavern was seasonal, wouldn’t it be open during the busy summer months (like now) like most of Disney World’s seasonal dining spots? Plus, the menu has been completely removed, too, which usually happens with a permanent closure. Menu removed Inside, the counters are also covered, at least suggesting it won’t be open again anytime soon, if ever. Counters covered To quote Alice, this is getting curiouser and curiouser. We’ll continue to dive down into the pirates rabbit hole to uncover what we can about the new tavern. Or, you know, Disney, you could just make an announcement or something so we don’t have to play detective (although where’s the fun in that?). Stay tuned to DFB for more! Disney World is going to be HOT this weekend. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in the Disney the short Stayin’ Cool While hot temperatures are noting new for Central Florida – – in fact, the subtropical climate is one of the major reasons that Walt Disney zeroed in on the Orlando area during the initial planning stages of the “Florida Project” that would one day become Walt Disney World – – the next few days are offering temperatures that are extreme even by the area’s normal standards. According to the Weather Channel, this weekend the Orlando area will see consistent temperatures in the high 90s. Furthermore, the “RealFeel” temperatures – – an estimation that takes into account the effects of multiple parameters, including air temperature, wind speed, solar intensity, humidity, precipitation intensity/type, elevation and atmospheric pressure” – – estimates that some portions of the weekend may actually feel over 100 degrees. Weather Channel Temperatures like these turn the heat from a nuisance to a real danger during a trip to Walt Disney World. If you’re headed to the parks this weekend, make sure to take all the necessary steps to mitigate the head as much as possible. These include: Wearing comfortable, light clothing. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Wearing sunglasses, a cap, and SPF lotion to shield from the sun. Carrying a small fan and cooling towel for relief while sitting in a long line. Staying in shaded and air-conditioned areas as much as you can, even in queue lines if possible. Also, listen to your body. As tempting as it can be to try and “gut it out” to “make your money’s worth” from your Disney day, it’s not worth your health. Take breaks in the shade and air-conditioned areas, and if you need to need to tap out on a long line, or even a whole park day, do so if it’s the best option for your health. Once again, it’s not worth suffering heatstroke or worse, not even to experience your preview of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Can you beat the heat at Disney World? The temperatures at Walt Disney World this weekend will be punishing, and you’re planning to be at the parks, be safe and smart regarding the heatwave. There is one snack spot in Disney World that seems to be having an identity crisis. Energy Bytes When Energy Bytes originally opened in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom (you’ll find it over near TRON Lightcycle / Run), the menu featured dumplings, donut holes, and a fun futuristic dessert. The snack spot later added a few new drinks and more unique snacks. However, the menu at Energy Bytes recently got a complete overhaul, so we’re trying NEW food there AGAIN. The new menu has added some new drinks, including Cucumber-Lime Soda, Blue Coconut Slushy, and Watermelon Slushy. There’s also a new snack, a Watermelon, Cucumber, and Pineapple Cup. So once again, Energy Bytes is trying to decide what it wants to be. New menu We grabbed two of these new drinks and the snack to check it out, though, because that’s what we do. We started with the Cucumber-Lime Soda for $5.99 which features flavors of cucumber, lime, and Sprite served over ice. Y’all. This is basically the cucumber Sprite from Russia you can get over at Club Cool in EPCOT. Cucumber-Lime Soda With that being said, though, we thought this soda was refreshing and unique, especially for something being offered in Magic Kingdom. Most of the flavor comes from the sweet cucumber, but the lime adds a nice acidity. Club Cool dupe We also grabbed the Blue Coconut Slushy for $6.49 with flavors of coconut, lemon, and lime. Okay, this is our new favorite drink in Disney World. The coconut flavor is delicious, but we also got a lot of lime flavor (oddly enough, we couldn’t taste the lemon). Blue Coconut Slushy This is the kind of drink you want to have when you’re sitting on the beach on a tropical island somewhere. Again, this is another win for Magic Kingdom drinks. Our new favorite drink Finally, we ordered the Watermelon, Cucumber, and Pineapple Cup for $5.99 topped with sweet chili sauce and furikake. So this is also a unique take on a fruit cup. It wasn’t a complete hit for us, though. The pineapple in our cup seemed to have absorbed a lot of the sweet chili sauce and had more of the Furikake sprinkled on it, which really elevated the flavor of the fruit. Watermelon, Cucumber, and Pineapple Cup However, the watermelon had a little less of that extra flavor, but it was still refreshing (as watermelon usually is). The cucumber didn’t seem to have any of the sweet chili sauce or Furikakte, so it just tasted like an unseasoned cucumber. That was okay, but we would’ve liked to have tasted those two additional ingredients on ALL the fruit in the cup. Fruit! We’ll have to admit that the new menu seems a little less jazzy than the previous TRON-themed foods, so we’re not sure what’s going on with this food kiosk, except that it still hasn’t decided what it wants to be. However, we’d still return for the drinks if we had a craving for something a little different in Magic Kingdom that was still refreshing. Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. You know how traveling isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, right? Orlando International Airport When you’ve got to deal with so many different variables like the cost, whether the flights will be non-stop or not, and even just trying to get to the airport in the first place, you can get overwhelmed quickly. If you’re traveling to Disney World, chances are that you’re going to go through the Orlando International Airport (MCO) and it can definitely be a hassle to go through, but don’t worry! We’ve got your back with some tips that’ll help you navigate MCO like a pro! As we were saying, since teleportation isn’t a thing yet, you’re most likely going to have to face the sometimes daunting task of trying to navigate the Orlando International Airport (MCO) on your way to Disney World. Don’t worry though. I’ve got your back. Let’s go over some tips and tricks to help you breeze right through the airport. The Airport Is Huge Listen, MCO is HUGE and in some ways, it feels like a maze, which might have you feeling lost and confused (especially for people who are used to flying in and out of a smaller airport back home). Orlando International Airport It’s not just one floor or one terminal. Take this for example you’ll need to take a monorail from your gate AND change floors to get to Mears Connect, a rideshare service, or just to grab your bags. Inside Terminal C at MCO Airport If you’re feeling lost, take a beat, follow the signs you see around the airport, or ask an employee for help if you’re really lost. Don’t worry, they can help you get where you’re going! Also, have a look at this map for future reference: ©Orlando International Airport MCO As you can see, there are three levels. Here are some areas to note: Ground transport is on Level 1. Baggage Claim is on Level 2, and Check-In, the Food Court, and the Gates are on Level 3. Also, Terminals A & B are on opposite sides of the same building. ©Orlando International Airport MCO You may also want to download the Orlando MCO Airport App beforehand, which can come in handy when you’re at the airport for tips on navigation. Getting To and Fro So you made it to the airport. You navigated the maze and got your luggage. Now how are you getting out and to Disney World? Well, you’ve basically got three options: Mears Connect, Lynx Bus (public bus), and Rideshare. (Of course, you also have the option to rent a car, but let’s forget that option for this post.) Option 1 – Mears Connect Mears Connect is a good option for going in between Disney World and the airport if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option. Tickets for kids are $13 each way, and adults can grab tickets for $16 each way. However, if you’re in a rush to get to either location, you’ll want to beware. Mears Connect Mears Connect makes a LOT of different stops at hotels around Disney World, so it could be over an hour until you actually get off the bus at yours, and then you’ve still got to take free Disney transportation to the park you’re trying to get to. Mears Connect We’ve also heard some reviews that have complained of the buses being late or not showing at all, although it does seem more rare. It is something to keep in mind when you’re booking, however! I Encountered 5 Annoying Problems Trying To Get from the Orlando Airport to Disney World and Now You Can Learn from My Mistakes Option 2 – Lynx Bus Lynx, the public bus system in Orlando, recently added a route that runs from Disney Springs to Orlando Airport without you needing to transfer to a different bus. The new route is called Link311, and it runs 7 days a week, every 30 minutes between 5AM and 11PM. The fare is $2 for the ride. Lynx bus The actual bus trip takes about an hour in each direction — and that’s about the same time you could expect on Mears Connect shuttles from the airport. But the trip is not “easy” and may not work for everyone. Check out our post on our experience with taking the Lynx bus from the airport. 2 Reasons the Bus From the Orlando Airport to Disney World Isn’t the Hack That Everyone Thinks It Is Option 3 – Rideshare Rideshare options like Uber and Lyft can be very convenient. You just have to really watch out for SURGE PRICING. For example, if you’re grabbing rideshare around a busy time, such as lunch or rush hour, you’ll notice prices SKYROCKET for rideshares. Rideshare Pick-Up Zone Unfortunately, there’s really no way around this one, other than to ensure you’re booking your rideshare earlier or later than these busy times, even if it means you’ll need to sit at the airport for an additional hour or so (always better to be early rather than late). While you’re home before your vacation begins, you can also check what times the prices around Orlando shoot up to prepare in advance! 10 Disney World Rideshare Tips We Learned the Hard Way Those are just a couple of tips that will hopefully make your experience a bit smoother and there’s more where that came from!
